As an omori fictive, thank god someone is actually talking about how bad fanon can get. A lot of the time, it feels like we're not looking at the same characters? They took the surface level idea of a character, for example, basil either a. Turning him into an uwu softboy or turning him into this yandere demon incarnate. It's just extremely puzzling to me personally. This blog genuinely feels like a fresh breath of air. 🔪

I haven’t seen a lot of people talk about how bad fanon BASIL can actually be, or how bad fanon can actually be in general as well. AUBREY is dumbed down to this tsundere who likes SUNNY and is a girlboss because of bullying BASIL (while not acknowledging that she was actually a shitty person towards BASIL and that he genuinely suffered) or this sort of “strong girlboss who hates everyone and is just mean”, KEL is boiled down to this happy guy who’s always positive and has no issues at all with his emotions or his life, HERO is watered down into this malewife who isn’t at all flawed in anyway. SUNNY…. he isn’t watered down as bad but the problem is that he’s portrayed as this who isn’t scared of things like horror while making BASIL the guy scared of horror, even though SUNNY is the one who runs away from things when they get slightly unpleasant and is also the one who a. almost Drowned in a bathtub (HIKIKOMORI route) and b. the guy who panicked just because of a spider and almost drowned in the lake because of it. (As for post-truth/game… I mean this in a type of way that he’s tolerant but doesn’t exactly like it at times). He’s also portrayed as this cool and somewhat masculine “emo” guy (while making BASIL this soft feminine “uwu” guy) which is just…. egrh. And then there’s also the making SUNNY “normal” and BASIL obsessed with him even though SUNNY is the one who memorized his favorite food, favorite smoothie, etc.

… and Yeah. Whenever I see those portrayals I just go “….Is this really them?”. I shudder whenever I see BASIL portrayed as either of those because that is not my guy. He is not an evil and manipulative monster nor is he a soft uwu crybaby and scared of everything. He’s just a person who went through shit.

I,, have so many OCs that there is absolutely no chance I can write them all here. It would be an hour’s read minimum,,

So, I’ll tell you a little about a few of them :)

Firstly, Accalyn. He belongs to an alien species known as Leveans. He’s 5’4” and in LUNA present time (i.e. the year 2273) he’s 46 y/o. He’s best known by others in the universe as the guy that declared war on Earth and held his own, alone, for 17 years, before ending it along with himself. Nowadays he’s a government secret (as it would probably cause mass panic if people knew he wasn’t dead) held onboard the Luna starship, as it was the only place willing to have him around. He is both a war criminal and also a little ragdoll character that i hold tightly and shake and he flops around in my brain (he’s depressed, somewhat pathetic and constantly tired and I love him). He is also somewhat of a comfort OC for me, somehow, idk why I try not to read into it.

And we move on to Franz. Now, Franz is human, the Captain of the starship Luna, and it’s been his dream to explore space peacefully since he was a really young child. He’s 48 now and only just been able to, but he’s achieved other dreams in the meantime, like marrying his husband and converting his family estate into a university. He has PTSD from watching his parents get murdered. He was in his mid-twenties and along with dealing with the pain of grief he had to sit helpless as Earth descended into war, with Accalyn aided by one of his parents’ inventions. He’s an inventor and physicist and created a lot of the technology now used on Earth and on Luna.

Finally, Kathryn, because I don’t talk about her nearly often enough. She’s not part of the LUNA present time, but a character from the pre-story set during (and a little bit after) the war. She’s 24 and human. She had a degree in electrical engineering, but moved to London when she was 21 to start her own vehicle workshop because she found that to be the most fun. She dreamed of being able to build spaceships one day, though she knew the war would have to end first as any ships taking off were simply pulled back to Earth again. She loved going to the independent bars and pubs around Central London, and just watching people going about their days, imagining where they were going and who they were and just inventing little stories for them. Once the war ended she started making plans to expand her workshop and build a spaceship, though they were never completed.

And that’s where I think I’ll stop, although I would welcome any follow-up questions ofc!

Love your take on Rosiepuff! I noticed how sometimes in many big families some children gets to experience a different version of their caretakers than their older or younger sibling. I can see Branch remembering Rosiepuff as the sweetest angel that wouldn't hurt a fly. BUT in turn, his brothers would have been able to experience some bits of her angry side. Like, has anyone considered that part of the reason why none of Brozone returned immediately is because they could be TERRIFIED of facing grandma after leaving like that??? oh boy! i sure have um! thought about it!

i think his 'friend event' stuff would go very differently than sifs. so likewise, the results would be wildly different, too. the fallout! there sure would be some!

the way i handle isa looping is that he recognizes himself getting meaner, getting lost in it all. he sees the descent just like the audience does. and he tries to hold on to himself, how people see him, because what is he if not the friendly and stupid guy they all know him to be!

and then in act five, he gives up the act. not that it was ever totally an act. his friendliness has corroded away, leaving just the cold intelligence he tries so hard to hide.

hed also make it through the house the final time scarily efficiently, but in a different way than sif. brute force and calculating malice and he knows its wrong, the whole time he knows its wrong, but he just cant... stop. he needs to finish this. even if it costs him everything.

Another thing I've realized personally is that a lot of people hate how morally gray everyone is. so in their mind, there has to be a bad guy, and it depends on the sections omocord tends to blame basil while omotwt blames sunny for it. It's just kinda interesting to see, especially like for fanfictions. You can see where I guess they "belong". 🔪

Yeah!! I’m also not a fan on how the OMORI fandom tends to paint BASIL and SUNNY as bad guys (they do tend to go heavier on BASIL on omoreddit and omocord certain parts of omotwt which is…) despite how both of the two were just really troubled kids at the time of the incident and didn’t know what exactly to do and how to handle the situations and their guilt. Both of them are morally gray characters who have both done something wrong, but are not exactly bad people for it. Which is what people in the fandom (namely most of omoreddit, omocord, and a part of omotwt) do tend to not acknowledge. How people handle the reactions of the others is really interesting since it does tell how they interpret the character and how they interpret the severity of BASIL and SUNNY’s actions.
