lily woke up to hundreds of flowers surrounding her bed. they were white daisies, her favourite. she looked around to see if any note came with it but was distracted when a loud sneeze rang through the room.

“urgh. what the fuck lily? why are there so many flowers around your-“ marlene was interrupted from her rant with another loud sneeze.

“bless you” said mary and lily in unison.

marlene glared at lily and was gesturing to the garden that threw up on her bed.

“what in the bloody fuck is all this?”

“my guess is they’re flowers. white daisies to be specific.” responded Lily

if it was possible, marlene glared harder at that

“fine fine. i don’t know. i just woke up with them. can’t find a note.” said lily while continuing her search of some clue as to who the flowers are from. while she looked marlene continued sneezing so lily decided to conjure up a bin and put all the flowers in there and closed the lid.

“better?” she asked turning to marlene

“much.” marlene replied sarcastically, walking into the en suite bathroom.

lily started to get ready for the day, giving up on finding out who the flowers could be from. it was valentine’s day and it wouldn’t be a surprise if potter did something over the top and insane just to ask her out again.

she got ready for the day and went down to the great hall to get breakfast. everything was painted in white, red, and pink hearts and paper cupids everywhere. it was amazing.

lily didn’t seem like the type to like valentine’s day. she was badass and stubborn and constantly told people they were wrong when they disagreed with an opinion of hers but she loved love. she loved the letters that dorcas wrote marlene. she loved the chocolate frogs sirius gave remus and the fact that remus would always give sirius the legs because he knew that sirius believed they were good luck. she loved all of it. and no one, except potter and his dramatics, has ever gotten her a nice thoughtful gift until now. she didn’t even know who it was and this made her even more upset. she liked knowing things, especially when they made her so unbelievably happy.

lily kept looking around at all the people she knew in her classes to try and figure out who sent her the daisies. she analyzed every look that was sent her way, every conversation she had, and every touch on her skin. she analyzed all day and still couldn’t figure out who sent her the flowers. she didn’t pay attention in any of her classes today and took no notes, which she’ll end up paying for when OWLS come around.

“are you doing alright?” remus asked as he came up to her and sat in the chair opposite her. they were in the far corner of the library and she had a book in front of her, lucky if she made out a single word with all her thinking.

“yes just peachy. why do you ask?” she responded in a voice that made it clear everything was not just peachy.

remus gave her a look that was somewhere between exasperated and concerned

“because you have been glaring at the book like it has wronged you for ten minutes.”

“why have you been watching me for ten minutes?” questioned lily

“because you have been spaced out all day, didn’t take any notes, didn’t answer a single question, and i had to see if i have been watching correctly.” explained remus “so, what is wrong with you?”

“nothing is wrong with me! i am just a bit out of it” said lily quite petulantly.

remus raised an eyebrow

lily huffed a sigh and went on to explain her dilemma.

“so you see, it has been a perfectly good reason as to why i haven’t been paying attention.” she finished with a big sigh and sulked further into her chair

“hm it’s not james.” remus said with a hand under his chin in a thinking-like motion. “he told us all about how he gave a stack of poems to regulus and how regulus wrote poems for him too. he would have told us if he did something else”

lily opened her mouth in shock.

“he wrote poems? that is very unlike him”

“yeah regulus just brings it out of him. also they weren’t very good”

“okay yea that seems more like it” lily nodded her head. well that rules out the only person who it could be that she can think of.

“maybe it’s pandora.” suggested remus after a moment of silence

“what?” lily turned to him with a shocked expression on his face. “why in the world would it be pandora?”

“because she’s been staring at you this entire time.” he said with a shrug and gestured over her shoulder. she turned around to take a peek and there was pandora who was staring right at lily. when she saw lily noticed her, she didn’t look away in embarrassment like lily thought, but instead gave her a small smile and a wave. lily waved back as she felt her face go hot. she turned back to remus and hid her face in her hands.

“what should i do?” she mumbled into her hands, more to herself.

“probably go talk to her.” she heard remus say.

she looked up just to glare at him.

“and what do i say?” she said sarcastically and maybe a little desperately.

“probably that you like her and that you would like her to kiss you and make you little flower crowns out of all the white daises she gave you, even though marlene would kick you out of the room.” he replied

“you make it sound so easy.”
