Since my previous podcast recommendation list was pretty popular, I've decided to make another, with another bunch of excellent podcasts:
13 Minutes or Less - Short podcast with very short episodes, about a pizza chef who doesn't like dealing to people but has to do some deliveries due to short staffing. Very much not her thing, but she does her best. As it turns out, her clients are quite a bit stranger and spookier than expected...
Additional Postage Required - Sci-Fi adventure about a nonbinary courier who gains the ability (or curse...) to get visions about the contents, past, and sender of packages they touch. They get roped into a rebellion. There's hoverboard racing. It's awesome.
Among the Stars and Bones - A team of xenoarcheologists search a distant world for traces of a long-vanished aliens. It's been a while since I watched this one, so I don't remember it very well, but I know that I enjoyed it. Very good sci-fi horror.
Dark Ages - Fantasy workplace comedy about a supernatural museum. Quite a lot of fun.
Dragon Shanty - Fantasy story about two bards traveling the high seas. There's dragons aplenty. Very queer. Excellent songs.
Falling Forward - Hacker story loosely based on the myth of Icarus and the Labyrinth, about getting back at a terrible corporation. Kinda experimental, this one has the shortest episodes I've ever seen.
Hotel Daydream - Podcast about the goings-on at a supernatural hotel. Very inventive, with really interesting characters.
Jar of Rebuke - Mystery about a researcher at an ominous cryptozoological organization out in the rural US. He's got no memories of his past and keeps dying and coming back. A story about cryptids, identity, queerness, neurodivergence, and community.
Light Hearts - Slice of Life podcast about turning an old, haunted building into a cafe and queer community center. The ghosts lead to some very fun shenanigans.
Lost Terminal - Mentioned in the other list but not expanded on. This is a hopepunk story set on an Earth devestated by climate change. Told from the POV of an adorable AI who watches this Earth from a space station, observing how humanity re-builds itself and finds a brighter future.
Mayfair Watchers Society - You know Trevor Henderson? The guy who drew Sirenhead, Long Horse, and other such creepypasta creatures in his found footage style? Yeah, this is a horror anthology based on his works, directed by him. Set in the rural town of Mayfair, where strange creatures are a lot more common than elsewhere... Each episode has a slightly different framing device, with some being found footage audio, others meeting recordings, phone calls, etc.
Monstrous Agonies - An advice podcast for the british creature community. Many of the advice letters are sent in by listeners - there's two by myself, one from an ant that can hear and send radio and one from a fey who is looking for curse advice. Some letters are metaphors for queerness, clashing cultures, ableism, and minority communities, others just some urban fantasy fun. Has a little bit of plot, but most episodes have an anthology style. Fast approaching the finale!
Mx Bad Luck - Slice of Life about someone who is cursed with bad luck. Sometimes sad, sometimes funny. Can recommend.
Neighbourly - Neighbourly follows the residents of Little Street, house by house. What they do, how they interact with each other, and what skeletons are hiding in their closet. Starts out as a spooky urban fantasy thing that's almost an anthology, but weaves itself into quite a mysterious plot over time...
SINKHOLE - Short-form audio podcast presented as a collection of audio posts from a member of a community of data restoration hobbyists in a sometimes-unfamiliar future. Mystery about disability, internet communities, and how things change with time.
Second Star to the Left - Scout-explorer Gwen Hartley has five years to explore and prepare her planet for settlement. With no aid but her robots and the anxious voice of her long-distance scout-minder Bell Summers in her ear, she's hoping she's ready for anything.
Someone Dies In This Elevator - Anthology where every episode, someone dies in an elevator. You wouldn't believe how creative they get with that simple concept!
Tales from the Low City - By the maker of Mistholme Museum, this podcast explores the everyday lifes of the last people on an alien world, after the surface had become uninhabitable and everyone had fled down into the last city, the subterranean Low City. This one made me cry a lot!
Tartarus - In a secret facility deep beneath Antarctica, an anxious astrobiologist, a terse station manager, and an AI keep humanity safe from the monsters they imprison.
The Attic Monologues - Queer urban fantasy story about a university student who decides to record themself practicing monologues using a collection they found in their attic. Don't forget to listen to the post-credit scenes!
The Bridge - Surreal alternate universe horror story about the keepers of a bridge over the Atlantic. Gets pretty spooky.
The Green Horizon - Sci-Fi comedy about a na'er-do-well Irish space captain and his rag-tag crew traversing a war-torn galaxy in search of fame and fortune. Very fun podcast.
The Lavender Tavern - Anthology podcast with original gay fairytales. Most are quite memorable!
The Vesta Clinic - Sci-Fi story about a clinic that helps various interesting alien lifeforms with their medical issues. Excellent worldbuilding and characters!
Tides - The story of Dr. Winifred Eurus, a xenobiologist trapped on an unfamiliar planet with hostile tidal forces and a fascinating ecosystem. She must use her wits, sarcasm, and intellectual curiosity to survive long enough to be rescued. But there might be more to life on this planet than she expected...
Hope this list is as helpful as the last!
@boombox-fuckboy @marvelousmawn @sapphireclaw @ashes-in-a-jar @frogmomentsfrombeyondtime @time-is-restored @emmy-noethers-rings
You folk seemed the most interested in the other list, so I'm being bold and @ing you all.

Baking prompts!
KISS; Kissing the icing off the other’s cheek, for Rulie?
Reggie yawned as he flicked on the lights to the kitchen, hearing the familiar hum of the fluorescents, the permanent scent of sugar hanging in the air. He readied the coffee maker as Julie tidied the front to her liking.
"Right," she said, clapping her hands together. "What's on the docket for today?"
"The lemon squares are doing really well, so I'm thinking a double batch of those are in order," Reggie said, ticking each item off on his fingers. "The Hendersons are coming by at noon to pick up the petit fours for the baby shower, Carrie wants a batch of strawberry shortcake macarons for her gathering tonight, I have the stuff for the pavlovas at the ready, and the cupcakes need icing."
"Righty-o, I'll make a basic buttercream and we can flavour and dye it as needed," Julie replied, flicking on their speaker and started blasting the playlist they made to bake to. Some chefs might prefer quiet, or the bustle of the kitchen, but she and Reggie were music lovers at heart, so they always had a song blaring while they were back here.
"The petit fours just need to be boxed, so I'll get that done while I wait for the egg waits to come up in temp. Then start on the mise for the pavlovas," Reggie said with a nod, then pulled Julie in for a quick peck before they broke apart to start their tasks.
A lot of their friends and family thought they were a little insane, starting a business together so soon after getting married, but with their long hours at separate bake shops, they replied it was the best way to spend any time together. Plus they had met working a a little cafe together, her doing pastry while he did more complex deserts and fell in love, so it seemed to work out well for them.
It had been a long hard road to get Starlight & Sunshine Sweets up and running; from getting the loans to designing the space and designing the menu. It had lead to a fair few fights and storming off, then always coming back together, usually each of them holding an apology treat and laughing together as they scarfed them down over apologies and kisses.
But it was theirs, open and booming with business. They had even expanded, bringing in Willie with his killer barista skills to make and serve coffee, and Kayla offering a small selection of savoury dishes-her mini quiches were a huge hit. They did a few events, and were even thinking of offering custom cakes if they could hire another baker to help with the load.
Reggie had the orders boxed up and the meringue mixture made, fruit cut up, and all the dry ingredients for the macarons sifted and ready to fold. "How's that icing coming darlin'?"
Julie grinned at him, showing the half dozen different bowls, from coffee to lemon to chocolate icing all ready to go. Plus a smear of the regular buttercream spread across Julie's cheek, tantalizing him. So Reggie went over, kissing the icing off. "Delicious," he said with a wink.
"Reggie!" she giggled. "Not in the kitchen, we agreed!"
They had done that. Especially after Willie caught them covered in the syrup from the bacon pancake cookies, and not much else. He had just smirked and said he wasn't eating any of that batch and left them to it. But still, he loved his wife, and she was sweeter than anything they made back here, so who could blame him?
"Fine," he whined. "But later?"
"We're not using the icing, it took me forever to get out of the sheets last time," Julie replied primly. "But yes, later."
"Love you."
"Love you more," she replied, blowing him a kiss before going back to filling her piping bags while Reggie turned to the lemon curd mixture he'd made last night.
They had all the orders ready plus lots of stuff ready for the day before Willie came in, and he wisely said nothing about their swollen lips and rumbled aprons, but did wink at Reggie as he subtly closed the door to the walk in.
Reggie blushed, bright as a strawberry, and handed Willie a lemon bar to keep him quiet while Julie was busy taking the biscotti from the oven. the barista winked and miming zipping his mouth shut before shoving the bar inside it and giving Reggie a thumbs up.
It wouldn't be too long before the bell above the door would be sounding non stop, but they had earned another break, so once Julie had set down the hot tray, Reggie pulled her in for a sway around the kitchen as their playlist switched to a slower song.
Julie sighed and snuggled in, resting her head against his chest, inhaling the scent of honey, marzipan, and vanilla that always seemed to cling to Reggie. She knew they had lots left to do, but she relished these quiet moments with Reggie before the chaos set in. This was what kept them sane, working together, these moments that were just for them.
"Incoming!" Willie yelled, and they broke apart, smiling, and going back to their stations, playfully hip checking one another as they kept baking.
Sure, sometimes life was hard, and their work life balance was a bit skewed, but they both knew that together? They made life all the sweeter.

Nobody’s Fool Chapter 2
This is the last chapter I’ll be posting to Tumblr as it ends where the Rough Draft for chapter 1 ends, so if you’d like to read more, consider becoming a Beta reader or wating untill the book comes out!
Rough Draft
Chapter 1 (Revised)
Word Count: 7257
Victoria made her way through the crowded streets of the Capital, enjoying the feeling of the sun shining on her face, warming her to the bone. It was a nice break from her work which had been stressful and a bit nerve-wracking. She was right about Henderson not enjoying her taking Saturday off and determined that she would do all her work for today and tomorrow by the end of the day so she wouldn't fall behind. She had barely gotten everything for today done before her lunch break, so while exhausted, she was making pretty good progress.
She caught sight of the newly opened cafe with a familiar woman standing in front of it.
Samantha beamed as she waved to Victoria, her hip-length wavy blonde hair bouncing along with the movement of her arm. Her vibrant golden eyes glittered as she caught sight of her old friend. Victoria smiled back and waved.
"There you are! I wasn't sure what you wanted, so I just got you what I thought you'd like best." Samantha quickly made her way to an outdoor table already filled with food.
"It looks great," Victoria smiled as she slid into her chair. In front of her was a sandwich with roasted turkey, bacon, provolone, and lettuce, along with a small latte in a coffee mug. In front of Samantha was a fruit salad and some sort of bright pink fruit drink.
Samantha beamed with pride as she picked up a strawberry with her fork and plopped it in her mouth. The pair took a few bites, just enjoying the day as they ate before Samantha spoke up.
"So what happened at work? You seem stressed and tired." Samantha asked.
Victoria groaned, "I had to take off tomorrow on short notice, so Henderson is having me do all of today and tomorrow's work by the end of the day."
Samantha winced sympathetically, "Why'd you have to take off work tomorrow?"
"Oscar planned for the mover to come tomorrow," Victoria replied as she ran a hand through her hair.
"I thought your day off was Sunday?"
"It is!"
Samantha sighed and shook her head, "Well, at least you have Sunday to relax in that case!"
"He's having the donation truck come over on Sunday," Victoria corrected as she took a bite of her sandwich.
Samantha frowned at that, opening her mouth to say something before closing it again, seeming a tad uncomfortable. Victoria smiled at her, trying to cheer her up.
"But let's not talk about all of that. There's something even more important to talk about!"
"Oh?" Samantha asked, "what's that?
Victoria smirked as she leaned in, "Who's your plus one at the wedding, Samantha?"
Samantha's face turned a light shade of pink, "Oh! I was… I was going to bring Gary."
Victoria clicked her tongue as she shook her head, "Gary's already invited; he can't be your plus one."
Samantha's blush deepened as she averted her gaze, "Then maybe my dad?"
Victoria groaned, "Samantha, your family is already invited! Come on, girl! There has to be a lucky lady you have your eyes on!" Victoria prodded at her, "I could even try and set you up with one of my bridesmaids!"
Samantha's face turned scarlet as she shook her head, her vibrant gold eyes contrasting with the red, "No, no! That's not necessary at all!"
"Are you sure?" Victoria leaned in, a smirk still plastered across her face, "Because a couple of them are really pretty…."
"I promise it's not necessary!" Samantha blushed.
"Alright, alright," Victoria relented, leaning back in her seat. "But you've got to get a girlfriend sometime. You're surrounded by beautiful, strong women at ASHA. I'm amazed none of them have caught your eye yet."
Samantha's blush subsided, only the barest pinks still on her cheeks as she shook her head, "They're incredible women, really, but none of them are 'the one.'"
"Oh, here we go!" Victoria groaned playfully as Samantha launched into her speech.
"Someday I'll find her, or she'll find me," Samantha looked off dreamily. "And when we meet eyes, and I look into our futures, I'll know! I'll see a wonderful future together. It'll be like magic. I'll tell her all about my gift of prophecy and about how we're destined for each other, and she'll smile and sweep me off my feet. I just know it!" Samantha insisted. "My visions have never led me wrong before, so I know they'll show me just who my one true love is!"
Victoria playfully rolled her eyes, "Alright, ya hopeless romantic, but I hope you realize regardless if she's your 'one true love' or not, she has to go through Gary and me first."
"Victoria!" Samantha pouted as her gaze snapped back to her best friend.
Victoria shrugged, "If she's all that, a little hazing won't scare her off."
Samantha's pout deepened as she crossed her arms, and Victoria couldn't help but laugh.
"Well, anyway, I don't really need to ask about your dress because I already know that, as my maid of honor, you're going to wear the pinkest puffiest abomination of a dress anyone has ever seen." Victoria took a sip of her latte and waited for Samantha to begin to reply before adding, "Unless you're planning on wearing a suit, you know, considering your…" she let the words hang.
Samantha's smile immediately soured, and she quickly balled up a napkin and lightly threw it at Victoria's face.
Victoria playfully yelped in pain and surprise, "Help! She's assaulting me! An ASHA superhero is assaulting me!"
"Oh, hush up," Samantha pouted at her, and Victoria burst out laughing.
"Anyway," Samantha huffed, "I'll have you know my dress is a lovely shade of pink with just the right amount of poof! It's elegant and does wonders for my figure!"
Victoria smiled at her, "I'm sure you look stunning in it. I can't wait to see you try it on."
Samantha smiled back before adding, "Although, I'm surprised Oscar is even letting me wear pink. I figured he'd really want a white and gold theme to go with his aesthetic," she commented while taking a sip of her fruit drink.
Victoria waved a hand dismissively, "The bridesmaids are my problem. He can dress the groomsmen however he likes. Besides, he owes me for tomorrow."
"Right," Samantha's mood suddenly turned somber, the entire day seeming to dim in response. Victoria frowned as Samantha continued, "That actually reminds me. I'm foreseeing a rough evening for you tonight."
"How rough are we talking?" Victoria took a sip of her latte, trying to ease her nerves.
"You're going to face great hardship. It will upset you deeply." Samantha spoke softly, her voice grave.
Victoria swallowed hard.
"The next week or so is also going to be rough," Samantha continued as she looked down, her golden blonde hair falling around her face. "The ramifications of the event will be severe."
"That's uh," Victoria laughed nervously, "That's not good…."
"It's not all bad!" Samantha quickly added, trying to reassure her, "I foresee a great opportunity following after."
"A great opportunity?" Victoria asked.
"Yes. I'm not exactly sure what happens, it's all a great swirl of emotions that's hard to make out, but I think… you should accept the offer given to you."
"But you're not sure what it is..?" Victoria continued, raising an eyebrow.
"Yes…" Samantha averted her gaze.
Victoria regarded her for a long moment before nodding, "I trust you, Samantha. If you say it's a good idea, then it's a good idea."
Samantha immediately perked up, her smile returning in full force, "Thank you, Victoria."
"Really, I should be thanking you!" she laughed.
Samantha shook her head, "All I was able to do was warn you. I'd only accept thanks if I was able to prevent whatever was about to happen."
Victoria shook her head as well, "No, You don't have to do that. Warning me is enough."
"It really isn't," Samantha looked sadly down into her drink. "But!" she continued, looking back up at Victoria with a determined gleam in her eyes, "I'm going to support you. Come hell or high water, I'll be at your place tomorrow morning to help with moving or whatever else you need!"
Victoria smiled warmly at her friend, "I really appreciate it, Samantha."
"Of course," she smiled back.
The pair continued to eat their lunch as they chatted about this and that, work and ASHA, how Oscar was doing, and if they were still on for movie night this week.
But eventually, their lunch hour came to a close, and the pair finished their meals.
"Be careful ok? I don't want you to get hurt." Samantha said as Victoria swung her bag over her shoulder.
"I'm always careful!" Victoria grinned.
The pair went their separate ways, Samantha heading back to her job at ASHA and Victoria back to her own job as Swisser, already groaning at the mountain of work waiting for her when she got back.
A hardship followed by an opportunity, huh? Sounded interesting but also a bit dangerous. However, Samantha seemed optimistic about it, so it probably wasn't going to be too bad. She just hoped it didn't involve-
"Hey Victoria…" a familiar voice called out behind her.
Victoria internally groaned as she stopped walking. She knew that voice. She liked that voice. What she didn't like was what that voice implied. Slowly, she turned to face the owner of that voice, the man that was the unwitting harbinger of her misfortune.
It was Gary Hooper. It was always Gary Hooper. Gary and his tall frame, tan trench coat, and chestnut brown hair.
Really he was too nice of a guy to be a henchman. Maybe that's why despite half of their interactions being him kidnapping her, she still thought of him as her other best friend.
"Hey, Gary." Victoria finally replied.
Gary at least had the decency of looking awkward as he shifted from foot to foot in front of the unmarked black car blending in with all the other vehicles on the busy street.
"I think it's gonna rain soon," Gary's brown eyes looked up at the gray clouds slowly gathering in the sky.
"That it is." Victoria nodded, looking up towards the clouds as well. The two friends stood together in silence as they eyed the clouds and each other, neither really wanting to be in this situation.
She let out a sigh, knowing there wasn't any use in stalling. She could run, she knew Gary would probably let her, but she also knew how cruel Vincent could be.
Victoria sighed and started walking towards the car, "Get the door for me?"
Gary opened the door, and she slid in, the car so unfortunately familiar. Really she shouldn't be this used to getting kidnapped, but when you're dating one of the strongest heroes in the city, you get used to all kinds of crazy things.
Gary slid in next to her and shut the door, the mechanical lock activating mere moments later. Victoria held out her phone to Gary before he even asked. He wordlessly took it from her and shoved her phone into his inside coat pocket.
She clicked her seat belt as she felt the car begin to move. Victoria eyed the driver's seat but saw it, as usual, was sectioned off by a black screen.
"So, what am I in for this time?" Victoria sighed as she passed her purse to Gary.
"No idea. Probably just more taunting, and then your boy toy crashes through the roof and sweeps you off your feet." Gary adjusted her things.
"Oh, uh, Congratulations on the engagement, by the way," Gary quickly added.
"Took you long enough," Victoria rolled her eyes, "It's been a couple days, and not so much as a text?"
"I know. I'm sorry. Obsidious has been working us to the bone lately. This was actually supposed to be my lunch break." Gary let out a tired sigh.
"Vinnie's taking your lunch breaks now?" Victoria asked, receiving an affirmative hum from Gary in response, "What a shit villain. Don't henchmen have a union or something?"
Gary shook his head, "Some villains let their henchmen have unions; Obsidious doesn't. Though, to be fair, it's not like anything we do is legal anyway, so a violation of labor laws is just par for the course."
"You are kidnapping me," Victoria hummed in agreement, "In what I assume is a stolen car?"
"I think this was purchased legally, but the lack of plates is definitely illegal."
"A legally purchased car," Victoria laughed, "can't even do crime right."
"A stolen car can be traced by the police. Just buying the car is more effective at hiding the illegal activity you're using the car for."
"Then just kill the police."
"Then there will be more police." Gery replied.
"Kill all the police." Victoria corrected.
"All of them?"
"Yes."
Gary nodded,a smile tugging at his lips, "You're a real criminal mastermind Victoria. Obsidius should hire you full-on as his adviser."
"I mean, he evidently knows where to find me, and I'm at his base every week. Let's just make this official with a paycheck, and I'll get him a spot on the villainous council in a weekend."
"I believe it."
Victoria laughed and shook her head, "Though knowing our dear Vinnie, the check would probably bounce."
"No, no," Gary said, "He knows what's good for him."
"Meaning?" Victoria raised an eyebrow.
"Meaning, when you hire a small army of men and women with questionable morals and a lot of guns, who also know where your secret base is… Let's just say it's in your best interest to make sure those paychecks are on time." Gary gave her a meaningful look.
"But not that they get proper lunch breaks." Victoria shot back.
"Can't be too soft on us. He's still a villain, after all." Gary smiled.
"Guess not."
Victoria looked out the tinted window as the car fell into a comfortable silence. She remembered the first time she was in this car, how she cursed and kicked at Gary, who never once got upset. How he only asked her to calm down and put on her seat belt so she wouldn't get hurt. How she spat in his face when he tried to help her.
She cringed at it now but didn't regret it. Gary didn't deserve that, but she didn't deserve to be kidnapped, either. He never held anything against her, nor did she hold it against him after she understood his situation. They were both just victims of circumstance, trying their best to live their lives.
Maybe that's why they grew so close.
But eventually, they got to the part that Victoria hated the most. Gary reached back into one of his coat pockets and fished out one of the things Victoria detested most. A blindfold.
Gary looked apologetic as he held it aloft.
"We're getting close-"
"It's fine," Victoria cut him off, grabbing the blindfold from his hand. She slipped it over her eyes. She hated wearing the thing, but rules were rules, and she felt better putting it on herself. It felt like it was her choice and not something forced upon her, even if it was.
"I'm going to check it now, ok?" Gary spoke softly, and she could feel his presence next to her. She nodded. Slowly, gently, she felt his fingers touch the knot in the back of the cloth, tightening its grip on her face by a fraction. Then his fingers moved, tracing the fabric in a slow continuous motion so she could always feel where he was without making direct contact with her skin.
He nudged the cloth slightly, making sure there were no gaps in its coverage. Satisfied, the hands retreated.
"It should only be around ten more minutes," Gary spoke up once more.
"Don't worry, I'm fine." Victoria gave a tight smile as she felt around for his hand, squeezing his fingers once she found them. He squeezed her back as he held her hand, anchoring her in the ever-shifting darkness.
Around ten minutes later, the car stopped.
"You can take off the blindfold now," Gary said, and Victoria eagerly did so, squinting at the blinding lights of the white underground garage around the car.
"Why is his garage always as bright as the damn sun?" Victoria groaned as she rubbed her eyes.
"I have no idea. I think Obsidious just wants his pretty cars to sparkle in the lights."
"Primadonna," Victoria huffed as the car unlocked. Gary shoved his car door open and unbuckled, Victoria following after him. He helped her out, and Victoria frowned to find three armed gunmen waiting for them. They were clad head-to-toe in black body armor with large intimidating-looking rifles strapped across their chests. Victoria frowned. Usually, it was just Gary and one other guy with a gun. Wasn't three a bit overkill?
"Isn't she supposed to be blindfolded?" a shorter one asked.
"She was blindfolded on the way in. No reason to blindfold her at this point. Besides, it just makes it harder to take her to the holding cell if she can't see." Gary huffed back.
"It's not proper procedure-"
"Look, kid, I know you're new, and I know you're excited, but trust me, I know what I'm doing. Let's just get her to the holding cell, and we can talk about this later." Gary cut him off, his warm brown eyes hardening. The shorter man adjusted the rifle and straightened, giving Gary a curt nod.
Gary nodded back, satisfied, as he and Victoria began walking side by side. She knew the way already, another unfortunate fact of her life as she had been here many times before getting shuttled off to wherever Vincent was planning on fighting Oscar that particular week. But, it seemed Vincent wasn't taking any chances today.
"Shouldn't she be handcuffed? And shouldn't you have a hold on her arm?" the shorter man finally piped up again.
"What's she going to do? There's four of us armed to the teeth and one of her, and she isn't even powered." Gary shot an incredulous look back to the shorter man.
"But procedure-"
"Was written with heroes, vigilantes, and other villains in mind. Victoria is none of those things. Blindfolding, handcuffing, and dragging her to her cell is just overkill, especially when she's already being cooperative." Gary scowled.
The shorter man grumbled, and the five kept walking in silence.
Victoria grumbled when they searched her. She knew she'd get her things back eventually, but it was still really annoying to watch them dump out all her stuff and shove it in a box.
She was pretty sure they didn't even need to do that, Vincent just told them to in order to piss her off, which was working unfortunately.
"Ring," a guard held out her hand.
"Ring-" Victoria looked at her in confusion before realizing she meant her engagement ring, "-Seriously?!"
She looked at Gary incredulously, but the man just nodded sadly.
Victoria scowled as she looked back at the guard and slipped off her engagement ring. "Tell Vincent he's a petty asshole for me, will you?"
The shorter man from before looked incensed. "How dare you talk-"
"Are we done?" Gary cut him off, the female guard nodded. "Great!"
Gary took Victoria by the arm and led her away, the shorter guard seething the entire walk to Victoria's holding cell. Yes, she had an assigned holding cell, yet another unfortunate Vincent-related fact.
Gary unlocked the door. A drawn-out mechanical beep echoed from the digital screen as the heavy metal door slid into the wall.
"You'll probably be here for a few hours, so get comfortable," Gary told her as she walked into her room.
"Tell Vincent to not take too long putting on his makeup." Victoria shot a mean grin over her shoulder.
"Don't talk about Obsidious like tha-"
"Leave it." Gary sighed as he violently jabbed his finger at the digital screen, another long beep screaming out as the door quickly slid shut.
Victoria let out a long sigh as she flopped face-down onto the uncomfortable bed. Only a thin old mattress and a few blankets Gary smuggled her provided her any comfort. Vincent was such a tightwad. He could blow millions on a stupid car but couldn't spring for more comfortable bedding? Although, in his defense, it was a holding cell, so comfort wouldn't exactly top his list of priorities for this place.
Victoria reached for the book on the shelf next to her, the worn bookmark still in its place where she had left it a week ago. She propped her head upon her hand as she opened the paperback's pages, not particularly interested in where the cheesy romance drama was going, but at least it was something to do.
Victoria sighed as she settled in for a long wait of reading trashy romance and thinking up what sort of insults she could throw at Vincent this time. A few came to mind, but she got bored quickly, her attention drawing to the other side of the room where a large black spider was crawling along the wall.
Victoria cringed as she slowly got off of her bed, searching around for something to hit it with, only her book making itself apparent. While she really didn't want to read a book with spider guts on it, knowing that thing was in the cell with her wouldn't do her peace of mind any favors.
She slowly and carefully advanced on the thing as it sat on the wall, brandishing her book spine in order to crush it in one fell swoop. However, once she got close, the thing almost seemed to look at her.
Victoria felt herself freeze in place as it stared at her. The two locked in a silent standoff that made Victoria feel progressively more and more uncomfortable for some reason she couldn’t describe.
But at the same time, she also felt uncomfortable at the idea of hitting it.
"Uhhh," Victoria finally said out loud, "Look, buddy. I don't want to kill you, but I will so… umm… You stay on your side of the room, and I'll stay on mine."
The spider silently regarded her for a few more moments before it resumed crawling along the wall, ignoring her.
She decided to take that as an agreement and carefully walked back over to her bed, glancing at the thing once more before reopening her novel.
As promised, the hours ticked by as Victoria read the woes of beautiful people with simply too much time on their hands. It truly astounded Victoria how some people could have so much money but not a lick of common sense.
But as Victoria was finally getting to the part where the main character was making her decision of which of the two generically handsome men to date, her reading was interrupted by a familiar mechanical scream.
Victoria quickly slid her bookmark back into the book and tossed it onto the shelf as she sat up, looking towards the door.
Gary stepped into the room, "He's ready for you."
"What an honor," Victoria said, her voice dripping with sarcasm as she stood.
She followed Gary out of the room and into the company of the three gunmen from before. They silently regarded Victoria, and she silently regarded them, the shorter man shifting as she looked at him.
"Let's go." Gary snapped all of their attention to him. He lightly nudged Victoria forward with his hand on her mid-back.
"Are we seriously not handcuffing her?!" the shorter man yelled out incredulously.
"What are handcuffs going to do? You have a rifle! Handcuffs or no handcuffs, she's not escaping!" Gary gritted his teeth as he pinched his nose.
"But-!"
"Gary knows what he's doing, man. Just let it go." one of the other two finally spoke up. The shorter man angrily muttered to himself while everyone side-eyed him, but aside from that, the walk was silent, eventually bringing them before two large double doors.
"Wait out here. Jensen, you're with me," Gary spoke as he opened the doors. Victoria and the other henchmen from before walked into the large room.
Victoria genuinely didn't know the purpose of this room. It had large tile floors with intricate designs and towering marble pillars that reached the high vaulted ceiling. The walls were gray slate bricks, and the ceiling had beautiful painted designs around a domed skylight.
It looked gorgeous, Victoria would admit that, but it was completely empty. And the marble pillars were spaced out evenly across the room, segmenting the room terribly. Victoria could only guess the sole purpose of this room was to fight.
Well, it wasn't completely empty. Near the center of the room, right next to a pillar, was a metal chair bolted to the floor.
"I assume you want me to sit on that?" Victoria glanced at Gary.
"Not the most comfortable, I realize, but knowing those two, you shouldn't be here long." Gary gave a tight smile as the other henchman, Jensen, trailed behind them.
Victoria let out a long, overly dramatic sigh as she sat down on the metal chair, dutifully resting her hands on the armrests.
Gary began the process of securing her wrists and ankles to the chair with rope as Jensen oversaw, his hands never leaving his gun. Gary gave one last tug to the rope around her ankles.
"Alright, we're good to go. He should be here soon, so just sit tight." Gary stood up, then turned to Jensen, "Let's go."
Jensen nodded, and the pair turned to leave, Gary shooting Victoria one last glance before he disappeared into the darkness of the room; the only thing letting Victoria know he was truly gone was the sound of the doors slamming shut.
So, Victoria waited. She let her eyes lazily roam the room, her gaze tracing the intricate designs until a voice directly behind her pierced the silence.
"My my, don't you look bored for a kidnapping. Maybe I should tell my men to treat you rougher. I miss the fear in your eyes."
"Vincent," Victoria greeted the redhead, her voice dripping with sarcasm, "What a surprise seeing you here."
Vincent smiled darkly at her as he emerged from the shadows, his black skin-tight bodysuit, pants, and black combat boots allowing him to easily slip into and out of the shadows even without the use of illusions.
"And there's that sass again despite your…." Vincent thumbed at the hilt of one of the daggers on his waist, one of many that adorned his body, "...position. But I suppose you've always had more spite than sense."
"You're one to talk," Victoria spat out a laugh. "Isn't audacity your middle name?"
"I'm afraid that honor goes to you, Vic," he spat out the nickname like poison. "You're the one always inserting yourself where you don't belong. Keeping people from what they want all for your own selfish desires," he began to circle her.
"Oh yeah!" Victoria rolled her eyes as Vicent left her line of sight, "I'm really keeping Oscar from what he wants by accepting his marriage proposal. You know, because we're engaged?!"
Victoria let out a cruel laugh, as she felt Vincent move behind her, "Oh wait! You did know, considering the fact you had your men take my engagement ring earlier."
Victoria turned her head to meet Vincent's eyes as he finally walked back into her line of sight. She gave him her meanest smile, "Is that what this is about, Vinny? Are you throwing a tantrum because Oscar chose me once and for all? Are you mad he didn't fall head over heels for your weird creepy, stalker behavior?"
Vincent stared down at her. She knew it was a bad idea to antagonize him, that it would only take a moment for him to do something irreversible to her.
But she knew he wouldn't. He wouldn't because they both knew Oscar would never forgive him if he did.
She never understood why Oscar couldn't just arrest him during one of their many battles. Why he couldn't just lock him up forever and throw away the key. But Oscar assured her that because of that damn lawsuit that it wasn't that simple, and while she couldn't understand it, she trusted Oscar.
So she and Vincent were locked in this odd stalemate until something gave, and in that stalemate, she was no stranger to antagonizing him, and he antagonized her back.
But when their eyes met, it wasn't the expected irritation or barely restrained anger clouding Vincent’s green eyes. Instead, it was amused pity.
"Oh…" he dragged the word out, "you don't know, do you? What happened yesterday morning at the bank."
"Oh my gods," Victoria rolled her eyes. "I swear if you start lying about some dumb shit in a desperate effort to pull us apart-"
"We kissed," Vincent smiled to himself, turning his back on Victoria, "It was incredible! And it made me unendingly jealous of you and how you're free to kiss him all the time."
Vincent turned back to her, his eyes full of hatred, "It made me realize just how much I hate you, Victoria. And just know that once Oscar is fully mine and you're just a bad memory in our relationship-" Vincent stepped forward and leaned down over her until their faces were mere inches apart. Victoria felt her heart pound as she could practically feel the hate radiating off of him.
"-I am going to repay the two years of agony you inflicted on me by keeping Oscar to yourself."
Victoria felt fear clog up her throat as Vincent continued to stare at her, his green eyes burning holes into Victoria's brown ones as neither blinked. She could feel the hate pulsating off of him and imprinting itself into her soul as she was once again reminded how it would only take a moment for him to do something irreversible to her.
Something was giving, and this situation wasn't maintainable anymore. She had to tell Oscar she wasn't safe here. Well, she was never safe, but this was… This was different. This wasn't playful banter, this was real life and death.
Vincent was promising that he would kill her, and Victoria didn't doubt him for a second.
But what was giving? Victoria desperately tried to wrack her brain as Vincent smirked at her and backed off. Surely this was because Vincent was mad he was losing his grip on Oscar because of the engagement. Hell, he was even lying about kissing Oscar! He was obviously grasping at straws in order to maintain control.
But what if they did kiss?. What if Victoria was the one losing control, and she didn’t even know it yet?
That was ridiculous, Victoria decided. This wasn't a game. There was no winning or losing control. She didn't own Oscar! This whole weird power dynamic was an invention of Vincent's twisted mind.
But he didn't want to talk about what happened, and Oscar looked so guilty when she brought it up.
No. He looked uncomfortable. And if Vincent was lying about kissing him, he likely at least did something to try and initiate a kiss, which Oscar rebuffed and was uncomfortable with. He just didn't want to worry me, she reassured herself.
"Cat got your tongue?" Vincent broke the silence, ripping Victoria from her spiraling thoughts. "Or have you just finally realized your place in all of this?"
Victoria gritted her teeth and put on her most condescending smile in hopes it would mask her fear if only just a little.
"Look, I get it, I really do. Oscar is handsome, but he's just not all that into you. And making up some story where he swoons and leaps into your arms during a bank robbery isn't going to change that."
Vincent shook his head in disappointment as he looked down on her, "Tabloids call you smart when they mention you, but you really are just an idiot, aren't you? How do you still not understand what I'm trying to tell you?"
"No, I think I understand perfectly."
"No. You really don't. But don't worry that small mind of yours about it. I'll make sure the message is loud and clear very soon."
"Sure you will," Victoria scoffed at him. "But since I'm sooo dumb, why don't you spell it out for me, hmm?"
Vincent merely shook his head once more as he let out a long tired sigh. "You know he's only ever started dating you to distract himself from his feelings for me, don't you?" Vincent tilted his head, the orange light of the sunset catching on his crimson locks as he stared down his nose at her.
"I mean, your involvement was rather convenient timing, really. A little over two years ago, I nearly managed to get him to admit his feelings for me. It was a long and strenuous process of trying to edge him out of the closet and into my arms. But right at the end, he got scared because loving a villain isn't what a hero is 'supposed to do'" Vincent rolled his eyes as he spat the words out.
"Everything that ASHA organization tells him convinces him that it's wrong. That he isn't supposed to want what he does. But he can't live this lie forever." Vincent smirked.
"Nice speech, but you're still a psychopath," Victoria snarled at him. "Oscar is a good person. He would never be able to stand you. "
"You really don't know him at all, do you?" Vincent leaned over her once more, lowering his voice and filling the air between them with poison. "You know the first night we kissed?"
"You've never kissed," Victoria tilted her head, "So no."
"It was the night before your engagement." He smiled. "He felt so guilty about it, about being himself, that he went out and bought you a ring and proposed to you."
"Likely story, asshole," Victoria spat at him.
"It's true," Vincent smiled as the glass above them began to let out loud cracks as something heavy landed on it, casting a large shadow upon the whole room.
"And I'll prove it," he whispered, his eyes filled with sadistic glee as the glass above them shattered, and Vincent covered Victoria's mouth with a gag in an instant.
Victoria saw the world around her turn dark and hazy, and in a moment, she realized that Vincent had covered her in an illusionary shadow, obscuring her from vision right as the figure landed in front of Vincent.
Crashing down onto the floor in a shower of broken glass, only thirty feet in front of them was Mr.Hyperion in his full glory. The light of the sunset fell down like a spotlight on him from the skylight as he glared at Vincent.
"Vincent…" Oscar growled as he stalked forward, "Where is Victoria."
"She's safe," Vincent walked away from the obscured Victoria as she struggled against her restraints, unable to make a sound behind the gag. "I just wanted to talk with you privately."
"How many times have I told you to stop kidnapping her!" Oscar snarled, "If you want to talk to me, meet me on my patrol!"
Vincent hummed as he acted like he was thinking about it before smiling at Oscar, "But this gets your attention so much faster."
"I swear, Vincent, if you keep this up-!"
"You could easily stop me by just breaking up with her. We both know what you really want anyway."
"Not gonna happen," Oscar snapped back. "And you have no idea what I want!"
"Oh, don't I?" Vincent purred as he slowly began to advance toward Oscar. "Because I think that kiss between us the night before your phony engagement showed both of us exactly what you want."
She felt a tingling sensation on the back of her hand and she looked down as a spider began to crawl across her hand. She cringed. She tried shooing the thing off of her but her hands were totally immobile.
Oscar gritted his teeth as he glared at Vincent, "That was a mistake."
Victoria stopped struggling as she stared at Oscar.
A mistake?
What the hell did he mean by a mistake? He didn't… he wouldn't have! Never! Never in a million years!
Victoria felt her mind begin to stall and spiral as the conversation in front of her continued as if she wasn't even there.
"So, was yesterday morning a mistake too?" Vincent asked.
"Yes," Oscar shouted, "Now let Victoria, my fiancée, go!"
Yesterday morning was a mistake too?
Victoria felt her mind begin to swim as the world around her felt wrong, like she was underwater. A weird ringing filled her ears as she found it hard to breathe. She didn't know what was going on anymore, but there had to be some kind of reasonable explanation for this. Surely.
There was no way Oscar chea-. She couldn't even finish the thought. It just wasn't possible. How could Oscar even possibly consider Vincent over her? She was great! Samantha always said so! She had a good career, stable income, friends, was well adjusted, and she thought she didn't look half bad!
Sure Vincent's face wasn't ugly, and he was rich and had superpowers, but he was evil! Like, pure evil! There was no possible way.
No, there was some sort of explanation for this. He was probably just going along with whatever Vincent said in order to get her back. That was it. She would just ask him about it later.
"-The only way to get me, or other villains, to stop kidnapping her is to either break up with her or quit being a hero." Vincent purred as Victoria could finally start to hear the conversation again over the ringing in her ears.
"Neither of those are going to happen, Vincent!" Oscar said, his scowl deepening.
"But if you truly want to protect her, you know that's what you need to do. If you do neither, your poor little fiancée will continue to suffer." Vincent was less than five feet from him now.
Oscar raised his fists, and Victoria silently urged him to fight, to prove he didn't care at all about the man in front of him, that he only cared about her. But Vincent raised his palms toward Oscar in a placating manner, and Oscar seemed to relax just a fraction. Vincent stopped his forward step in favor of beginning to walk to the side, around Oscar, forcing him to turn as well.
"But do you know what I think? I think you're so adamantly refusing not because of some moral principle, but because you know I'm right, but that forces you to make a decision you don't want to make." Vincent's cat-like smile was now visible to Victoria as the two circled each other. Oscar tilted slightly away from Victoria and Vincent somewhat towards. But still, neither made a move against the other.
"A decision you've been avoiding for over two years. Oscar, are you truly happy with Victoria?"
Oscar opened his mouth to answer, fire burning in his eyes, but Vincent raised one of his hands higher to stop him.
"I don't want you to answer me aloud. Just think about it yourself." Vincent paused as Oscar remained silent, his gaze never leaving Vincent. Vincent smiled as he tilted his head, "You aren't, are you? I know it, you know it, the only one out of the loop here is her. And you don't want to hurt her, do you? Because you're a good person. Because you're a good hero."
"But it's ok to be unhappy. It's ok to admit that to yourself. It's ok to say, 'I'm not getting what I need from this person.’ It's ok to want to find someone who's a better fit for you, especially if they're already waiting for you to realize it."
Oscar remained silent, and Victoria felt like she wanted to vomit. If he was trying to get her back by fighting, wouldn't he have just started attacking by now? And if he was trying to get her back by playing this stupid crazy game, shouldn't he be agreeing?
Why wasn't he saying anything?! It made Victoria feel like she was going insane.
"You did what you were supposed to do, Oscar," Vincent spoke softly as he took careful steps towards him, "but now it's time for you to find what you want, not what you think you need."
Another. Then Another. Until Vincent was pressed chest to chest with Oscar. Victoria sat watching the pair, wide-eyed and unbelieving. Was this really happening?!
"Get off of me, Vincent," Oscar growled, but his voice lacked any bite, and he made no move to remove the other man from his presence. Vincent simply smiled as he snaked his left arm around Oscar's waist and his right through Oscar's hair.
"That's not what you want, and we both know it," Vincent purred, "If it was, you would have pushed me off yesterday morning or the other night. Or two years ago."
"I…" Oscar's voice trailed off, and Vincent's fingers gently trailed down from his hair to cup his jaw before gently guiding Oscar's face forward towards Vincent's.
"It's ok to want this," Vincent whispered directly into Oscar's lips, "It's ok to want me."
Victoria was suddenly hit by the memory of yesterday. Where Oscar embraced her in the sunlight and kissed her gently in the restaurant. His arms warped around her as she watched those same arms wrap around Vincent. Those same lips kissing him.
She felt herself tremble, but she felt nothing. Victoria didn't feel upset. She wasn't sad; she wasn't angry; she was just completely and utterly numb.
Her entire body felt frozen over as the two men in front of her kissed, as her fiancé kissed the man who promised to kill her not ten minutes ago. Her entire body felt like it was engulfed in ice, with the only pinprick of heat in her body coming from her eyes. Her eyes felt like molten lava as tears welled up in them. Tears she refused to let fall.
She couldn’t take it. She couldn’t. She just wanted it to stop.
She looked down at the spider on her hand and wondered if it was the same spider from earlier, the one in her cell. It was a stupid thing to wonder, as her mind grasped at anything it could to avoid the reality in front of her.
She felt her heart shatter to pieces as the two finally split apart, gazing into each other's eyes.
"I want this," Oscar finally admitted, and Victoria finally let out a choked sob, her heart breaking all over again as her body trembled even harder.
"I'm so glad that that's finally clear to everyone involved," Vincent smiled before turning his gaze to her, "Right, Victoria?"
Oscar's eyes widened as his face paled, his gaze snapping to the now-revealed Victoria. "Vic! This- This isn't what it looks like!"
Victoria turned her face away from him, from both of them. She couldn't do it. She couldn't take Vicent's triumphant smirk or Oscar's regretful pleas.
So instead, she stared at the floor and begged whatever god might hear her that she could disappear, but the only response she received was the spider crawling off the back of her hand.

THE NIGHT WE MET
StevexOC hurt-comfort fluff / 5.9k words / part 1 of 3
Steve rubbed the sleep from his eyes and cut the engine on the bronco. The massive hunk of metal sputtered to a dull hum as he climbed from the driver's seat and grabbed his dark green bomber jacket from the back.
It was cold in Hawkin's even for December, the chill had set in early this year and they had barely seen the fall leaves before the snow had hit the ground. Steve hated these fucking jackets just as much as he hated driving Hopper's old piece of shit around town. He dragged the soles of police-issued boots across the cement towards the small cafe on the corner of Main Street.
He brushed the snow out of his long brown hair and opened the door. The chime above him ran out into the small shop and Bower appeared from the back in his black apron. His blonde hair was tucked under one of those wide-brim hats he loved so much and he was carrying a tray of muffins.
"Morning Sheriff," he tossed a warm muffin at him before setting the rest on the counter.
"I told you to stop calling me that," Steve curled the wrapper away from the warm carrot cake and bit into it without hesitation as he aimlessly looked around the small shop.
"Coffee?" He asked walking toward the large machines behind the counter.
Steve nodded, Bower never missed, the muffins were always warm and always delicious. He had opened the shop two years prior, filling it with thrifted cozy furniture and lining the walls with books for sale. The two large couches in the front of the shop were piled with boxes of Christmas decorations that spilled over the tops in bundles of lights and colourful tinsel.
"I'll get Henderson and Mayfield over here to help you string those up," Steve pointed to the boxes as Bower slid a brown cup across the counter toward him.
He went to dig change out of his tan trousers but Bower shook his head, "on the house. I hate starting so late but the storm last week pushed back the tourist rush and with it the delivery of the new lights."
Every year Bower turned the cafe into a wonderland for tourists. Stringing as many lights, tinsel, ornaments, and strings of popcorn as he could from the roof of the cafe. It was cluttered and messy and Steve didn't understand the idea behind it but the tourists seemed to love it.
"There's another front rolling in tonight, it's supposed to make the highways bad. I got the guys at the station doing all they can to slow traffic on the highways but people refuse to miss Christmas in Hawkins." Steve rubbed the back of his neck nervously, it was his first official Christmas as Sheriff.
This meant he was no longer just following Hopper around learning the ropes, he was completely and solely responsible for the townspeople of Hawkin's. It terrified him. Hop had assured him that he wouldn't retire until Steve was ready but... he didn't feel ready.
"You'll be fine kid, you know this town and the town knows you." Hop had hollered as he piled luggage into Joyce's car.
Steve swallowed his pride and asked following the giant man around the car nervously, "what if it's not fine?"
"I'm just going on vacation," Hopper slammed the trunk and walked around to Steve, placing a firm hand on his shoulder. "There's no one I trust with Hawkins more than you."
The bell rang above the door, making both men turn to see an unfamiliar face standing in the entryway. Dark hair tumbled from beneath a grey beanie and brushed against her plump rosy cheeks. Her soft lips were painted red and pressed together in a polite smile as Bower greeted her into the shop. She tugged her wool coat closer to her neck and shook off the snow as she stepped further into the cafe.
"I heard you had coffee," her voice was warm against the chill she had let into the tiny cafe and Steve could feel himself leaning toward her.
"The best in town," Bower smiled.
"The only one in town," Steve muttered.
"Would you like a muffin, the Sheriff is paying," Bower shot him a dirty look and waited for Steve to fish the coins out of his pocket.
He let them clink to the counter and watched in silence as Bower served her, she set her old camera on the counter next to her cup.
"I've seen one like that before, you use those uh," Steve fumbled his words and ran his hand through his hair to shake out the flustered feeling. "Dark rooms," he finally found the word, his tongue twisted around the pretty girl.
"Well I came to do a piece on the Starstorm cafe but," she looked up at the ceiling, "it doesn't look like it's ready."
Bower sighed, "Edith Ford, I totally forgot. I'm so sorry you drove all the way out here. The storm set back our schedule, the cafe won't be ready for a week at the earliest."
"Even with help?" Steve asked, he had promised two extra sets of hands but he was sure the Sinclairs were home for break and Robin could gather a few of the boys from the station.
"Maybe with a few extra bodies we can scrape it together quicker but it's," Bower frowned, his ice-blue eyes so sad and defeated.
"Let me see who's around," Steve slid his hand around his coffee and backed away from the counter.
"I can come back next week, I don't mind the drive." Edith offered.
"That would be amazing," Bower smiled.
"Get out of town ahead of the storm," Steve warned. "The highways are gonna get bad real fast."
"Yeah, I'll take a few photos of the town and head out before lunch. Thanks."
"Before lunch, the snow is coming! It was nice to meet you, Edith," he held out his other for her to shake it.
She did, her fingers covered in antique rings and her nails painted the same bright red as her lips, "It was nice to meet you too," she stopped and he realized he hadn't introduced himself.
"Steve," he said, finding himself smiling bigger than he ever had. Bower chuckled at the sight of him fumbling over the new girl. "Harrington," he added gripping her soft, cold hand in his own longer than he should have. "Sorry, you can," he pulled away and backed toward the door, "have your hand back."
His fingers tingled in the pocket of his jacket as he pressed the door open and walked out into the snow. "You're a goddamn idiot Steve Harrington," he whispered to himself as he climbed into the hunk of frozen metal.
He let the truck warm up beneath him as he finished his coffee and watched the shop. Edith exited the shop, tucked into her warm coat with her fingers wrapped around her coffee, and made her way down Main Street. Steve watched her fumble with the keys of her car before finally popping the lock on her light blue Camry.
She set her belongings inside, along with the bag Bower had given her, most likely filled with sweets as an apology before she straightened up and looped her camera back around her neck. The snow fell softly around her, without the wind everything was peaceful. Steve smiled to himself as she stuck her tongue out, tilting her chin to the sky and catching a few clean, chilly flakes in her mouth.
He leaned against the steering wheel, pressing a thumb to his bottom lip as he kept his eyes on her, following her as she lifted her camera and took a photo of the outside of Starmstorm. A smirk formed on his face as she turned, her dark brown eyes catching his.
He waved a gentle three fingers at her as she raised the camera again and took a snap of him.
Edith intrigued him, with her soft waves of chestnut brown hair that fell around her slim oval face and plump red lips. She dropped the camera, the corner of her mouth upturned as she smiled at him.
It was only his luck that he found a pretty girl on the day of the biggest snowstorm in Hawkin's history and she wasn't even a local. Steve sighed and sat back, wrapping his hands around the steering wheel as he pulled out of his parking spot. He had teenagers to wrangle.
He found them at the Will's after checking the mall, the arcade, and the school. They were pissed when he interrupted the game they were playing but Steve knew how to bribe them into helping.
"Just give him the help he needs to get this done and next week I'll drive all of you up the hill to go skiing," Steve herded them from the Beyer's and into the back of the bronco as the sun started to get hazy in the sky.
"I'm not riding back there," Max declined, staring at the four boys piled into the back.
"Come on, Mayfield get in," Steve sighed.
"No way, Sheriff," she mocked, her red pigtails flipping in the wind under her beanie.
"Fine," he shook his head, slamming the hatch closed and walking around to his side, letting Max slide in first before closing the door behind them. She settled into the bench seat and put her belt over her thick jacket as Steve pulled out from the Beyer's driveway.
"You okay?" Max asked looking over at him as they drove back down through the forested loop into the city center.
Max had become a permanent fixture in Steve's life, her mother was barely capable of functioning these days, and with that came the constant flickering of the power in the trailer and a lack of food to eat.
Steve didn't mind making up a bed for her in his house, ever since his parents started having extended vacations that turned into retirements and never coming home from California. The house had felt more empty than before and when Lucas came to him complaining that Max was in the trailer for three days without power...
It took some convincing on Steve's part to get Max to come with him, but she hadn't seen her mother in a few days and he could hear her stomach growling. Anyone will cave for warm french fries, even a stubborn, emotionally guarded redhead with a bad attitude and a kind heart.
She had been sleeping at his house ever since.
"Yeah kid," he grumbled.
"Not a kid anymore." She rolled her eyes.
"You aren't eighteen yet," he snapped, "still a kid."
"Two weeks!"
"Still a kid," Steve reminded her. "Have you talked to your mom lately? Will she be home for Christmas?"
"No," she grumbled turning away from him.
"Bower offered to cook, were going to do it at our house. Robin might even convince Eddie to come down off that stupid mountain for the day." Steve started to tell her the plans.
"Your house," she cut him off.
He slammed the brakes on the truck hard, the sound of bodies slamming together in the back echoing through the air followed by a chorus of hollering. Max braced herself on the dashboard and turned to give him a dirty look.
"Our house." He corrected her. "It's nothing but an empty box without you there, remember that."
"Ok, ok..." She sighed but he knew she understood, no matter how many times he told her that he wanted her around she still seemed to doubt his honesty. "I'm sorry."
"Don't be, just make sure you take out the garbage when you get home." Steve started the truck again pulling into town without any more fuss. He let the boys out of the back and lined them up on the sidewalk, "ski hill, next week, you help Bower until he says he doesn't need you and no complaining."
Mike rolled his eyes and Steve pushed his jacket back over his hip to expose the handle of his gun until both hands were on his hips, "no complaining." He repeated and Mike nodded shakily at him with a shocked expression.
"What are you going to do shoot us?" Mike laughed off his fear.
"You'll make good target practice dipshit," Steve snapped. "Move your asses," he clapped, sending them all rushing into the cafe.
❄️❄️❄️
The sun had finally disappeared behind the horizon as Steve finished his paperwork and left the station. The snow was coming down heavier than before, too heavy to be safe for anyone to be on the roads.
He adjusted the chains on all four tires and climbed into the driver's seat to head home when the radio crackled on, "Sheriff," the voice of Mark Little came through the status.
"Yeah, I'm here."
"Nance called in and said there are car tracks veering off the road in the snow up on the highway out of town. Saw them when she was driving by about twenty minutes ago," Little chirped through the radio.
"Any sign of the car?" Steve asked.
"No."
"Alright, I'm leaving now." Steve turned the engine over and let the truck warm. He really didn't want to spend the rest of his night digging some stupid tourist out of the ditch.
David Bowie played over the radio softly as he drove, the snow pilling up on the road making the tires spin out wildly at times but he just went slow and steady.
"Did Nancy say where the tracks were on the stretch?" Steve clicked the radio off.
The snow had blanketed over everything in the short time it had taken to get out to the part of the highway that led out of town. The radio was silent for a long time before it cracked to life again, "about a mile north of-" Little said before cutting out.
"Deputy?" Steve clicked the radio to life, no response. Sometimes when he got too far out of town the radios died out. He tried again, "Deputy Little, can you hear him?"
He was met with more static. "Shit."
He pulled the Bronco over the side of the road and climbed from the driver's seat. He zipped up his jacket and grabbed a flashlight from the glove compartment. The snow made it hard to see anything more than a few feet in front of him and the flashlight only helped so much.
"Hawkin's police department," he hollered out, "Sheriff Harrington, is there anyone out there?"
The snow pelted against his cheeks, stinging his exposed skin as he continued to search. It was a painful reminder to not believe everything Nancy called in all the damn time.
"What the..." his thought was cut off as his flashlight illuminated a bumper about five feet in from the side of the road. He dug his boots into the slippery mud and snow beneath his booths but it was barely enough to keep him upright as he slid down the embankment into the forested ditch. "Is anyone in there?" He hollered, shining his flashlight furiously around the back of the car.
Light blue Camry. The reporter from the cafe.
"Shit," he moved fast knowing that make and model. "Edith?" He called out moving against the side of the car toward the driver's side down. The entire front end of the car was pressed inward, sandwiched against the tree it had slid into.
His flashlight reflected off the window and glared into his eyes. "Edith!" He yelled seeing her brown hair flared out around her face, her forehead against the steering wheel. Blood dripped from her eyebrow and lips, down her chin in a thin dark streak of dried blood.
He yanked against the door but it was locked from the inside. He called out to her again as he tried to work out a plan in his head that would help get her from the wreck safely. The last thing he wanted to do was hurt her further. With how deep the snow had gotten and how bad the highway was there was no way he was getting transport out here. He turned to the back window smashing it with the opposite end of the handle until the glass shattered into the back seat over her belongings.
He continued to talk to her as he reached through the window as far as he could, the crook of his armpit and shoulder pressed roughly into the frame as he wiggled for the lock. The sound of it popping made him laugh with relief as he unwound himself from the car and pulled the door open with a forceful pull.
He shone the flashlight over her, pressing two cold fingers to her neck.
"Jesus!" She shot away, slamming her head against the headrest as her body jolted back to life.
"Hey," Steve put his hand out to stop her from moving around too much, "hey hey!" he shouted as she continued to panic.
Her dark brown eyes widened as she realized where she was, her hands bloody as she padded her body over for broken bones. "You were in an accident," Steve explained trying to bring her back to focus. "I need you to sit still until we know how badly you're hurt."
"My ears are ringing," she whined, pressing her palm to her eye with a hiss, "is that? Oh my god is that blood?"
"Edith, stop moving," Steve growled, his voice low as he knelt beside the driver's side and checked out her legs, nothing seemed to be broken. That's good news, means she can walk out of here.
Steve reached across her, his nose filling with her sweet vanilla perfume and the copper tang of the blood dripping from her wounds. She trembled under his touch as he checked her over before popping the belt buckle loose. "Nice and slow," he said extending his hand to her.
She stared at it for a second, her dark eyes rimmed with tears illuminated like glass by the flashlight. She placed her hand in his and let him help her from the wreck, "easy, it's slippery."
Her boots dug into the ground carefully but her knees wobbled sending her crashing forward into him. Her free hand caught the collar of his jacket, bracing herself in the snow as his arm came around her waist and held her to his body.
"You're alright, are you dizzy?" He looked down at her and letting go of her hand he fixed her beanie over her head so it kept her ears warm.
"A little," she answered, "there was...a deer?"
She looked up at him, "I left before lunch," she whined and the sound was so sweet and exhausted that Steve ended up laughing.
"It's too late and too dangerous to stay out here, my truck is up on the highway. Do you think you can climb?" He stifled his smile and tried to be serious.
She nodded and let go of his jacket slowly. Steve inspected the car one more time and swiped her camera off the passenger side floor before slamming the door shut to keep the snow out. He turned back to her leaning against the cold car, shuffling on the incline to stand in front of her. He looped the leather strap of her camera gently around her neck and made sure her jacket was zippered properly.
"Thank you," she whispered settling down into the collar.
"You ready?" He asked and held out his hand for her once again. She welcomed his help and intertwined their fingers together.
"Slow," he explained, highlighting their path back up the embankment, "hold on to me."
She dug her free into his jacket, twisting them tightly in her grip. His arm drifted behind him to keep his hold on her as he stomped them footholds up the hill. He felt her squeeze against his palm and paused climbing.
"You ok?" he called back to her, peering over his shoulder. His hair fell into his face, but as the wind blew it around he saw that she was taking long deep breaths of air as if she was trying to keep herself from vomiting. "Few more steps," he encouraged.
She met his gaze and nodded softly, she was silently talking herself up. She gave herself a long moment before stepping up and pressing against his back, "few more steps," she whispered against him and the warmth of her breath caused the air around her to fog.
Steve planted his boot on the highway, anchoring himself to the tree and using all his strength to help her the rest of the way up. His bicep tensed tightly under his gently as she scurried her way past him and up to safety, he pushed on her lower back, forcing her the rest of the way. As he joined her on flat land he fought to control his breathing.
Edith swayed uneasily on her feet and tipped to the left too far to catch her balance before her eyes fluttered over into the back of her head.
"Edith?" Steve inhaled a sharp breath, dropped the flashlight to the ground, and slid his arms underneath her before she hit the ground and hauled her up against his chest. "Stay awake," he whispered to her adjusting her in his arms as he walked his way carefully back to his truck.
Her head lulled against him, her eyelids heavy and her breathing strangled in her chest.
"Shit," he struggled to open the passenger side door, reaching as far as he could without losing his grip on her frozen thighs. When he finally pried it open he walked around and set her gently against the bench seat. "Hey," he rubbed a knuckle against her cheek, "Edith you gotta stay awake."
"I'm cold," she whispered, her eyes fluttering open lazily.
"I know," he said as he buckled her in and closed the door. Rushing to the other side he climbed in and pushed the keys into the ignition, "come on you piece of shit," he growled as the engine whined and stalled against his protests.
The Bronco roared to life and Steve flicked all the dials to warm the cabin as quickly as he could. Leaning forward he tore his jacket off, leaving him in the thin tan t-shirt he hissed as the cold air bit into his arms.
He covered Edith's legs with the jacket like a blanket, "it'll get warm in here soon."
She hummed something he couldn't hear, as her body leaned against his and her head fell against his shoulder. He pulled the truck off the shoulder, the wheels spinning in the thick snow and slippery ice.
He wasn't going to make it back down that hill into town, "Uh," he started, looking down at her, sleeping on his should her feet tucked up under her and her fingers gripped around his arm.
A sheet of snow whipped against the truck as he drove carefully down the winding path toward the house, he had shovelled the driveway that morning but it had piled back up. At least two feet of it, "alright you piece of garbage, get through this snow for me and I'll never yell at you again." He smacked the steering wheel with his free hand and accelerated through the bank of snow, the engine revved as it quickly became overworked. It wained under the pressure as he pressed down on the gas pedal to get them the rest of the way.
The lights were on in the house, "Max," Steve huffed a sigh of relief as the truck slid to a rocky stop.
He cut the engine, running to the front door, "Max!" He called inside and within seconds her head popped around the corner, red braids swinging around her face. "Go upstairs and get blankets, lots of them, and the first aid kit from the bathroom."
"Why?" Max asked but made for the stairs.
"Just hurry," Steve said running back out into the snow and wind.
He ripped open the passenger door and slide Edith from the seat, pulling her hood around her head and tucking him close to his chest. The snow bit through his shirt and snuck into the brim of his boots as he stomped back to the house with her in his arms.
"Who the hell is that?" Max asked with a bundle of blankets.
"A reporter," Steve grunted as he set her down on the long brown couch in the living room, "bring those here."
He unlooped the camera from her neck and set it on the glass coffee table.  He unzipped her wet jacket and stripped it from her body carefully before taking one of the blankets from Max and laying it over her. "In the first aid bag," Steve pointed behind him as he kept tucking her in, he needed to bring her temperature back up.  He pressed his hand to her neck, she was still so cold. He knelt beside her on the carpeted floor and examined the bruises on her lip and collarbone.
Max handed him everything he needed without hesitation and helped him by uncapping the peroxide and dosing a piece of gauze in it. "Here," she said as he pulled Edith's beanie off her head.
"She drove off the road up the highway," Steve explained. "Hey," he whispered with a soft smile as Edith's eyes flickered open slowly adjusting to the light around her.
"Holy shit," she huffed out, touching her head again.
"Morning sunshine," Steve gave her a weak smile, just happy to see her awake and alert, "this is gonna hurt," he said pressing the piece of gauze to the wound above her eye.
She hissed and pulled away from him.
"I know, " he whispered, "I'm sorry."
"He has to clean it or it'll get infected," Max explained, handing Steve a clean piece to wipe away the excess blood. Edith looked up at Max, who hovered in her pastel-striped sweater and long pyjama pants.
"Edith, this is my sister, Max." Steve looked up at Max whose expression softened at his term. "She's right, we have to get these clean or they'll hurt worse down the road. You ready for more?"
Steve hooked a finger under her chin, her skin is soft and cold as he tilts her face so he could inspect the large, twisted split skin along her jaw. Her eyes screwed shut as he cleaned it, only opening when he purses his lips and blew a warm breath against it to dry the skin. He pressed a few clean sutures to the jaw and removed his fingers from underneath her chin.
"How's your head?" He asked her.
"Feels like I hit a tree," she laughed and the sound was like honey.
"Sorry about the house call, the hill is a death trap but in the morning I'll get you to the hospital to be properly looked at," Steve smiled, watching her brown eyes take in her unfamiliar surroundings.
"I feel great Doc," she smiled at him, the corners of her soft lips curling gently.
"Yeah," Max scowled, "I'm going to go find her a change of clothes. Mostly so I don't vomit from this weird adult flirting thing happening," she waved her hands in the air and disappeared up the stairs.
"Sorry about her," Steve got off the floor turned and to the stairs where Max had gone and stood back from Edith with his hands in his pockets. "About this, the snow, about your head," he sighed.
"Do you always apologize this much?" Edith asked sitting up on the couch.
"I—," he ran a hand through his hair nervously, his face felt hot and his hands were sweaty.
"You didn't make it snow," she smiled. "Oh ow," she winced pulling her other hand from beneath the blankets.
"Let me see," he returned to her side sitting on the edge of the couch and cradling her hand in his palm. "There's some glass," he turned the skin into the light to get a better look.
He dug through the first aid kit until he found some tweezers and lifted her palm to his face. He carefully pulled the two small shards of glass from her skin and dropped them on the table.
"Better?" He asked rubbing his thumb over the two small scratches where the glass was.  He didn't realize how close their faces were until he looked up from her hand and came face to face with her lips.
Her brown eyes feathered over his face, "you have a lot of freckles," she whispered, her breath hot on his cheek.
"You have a really nice nose," Steve said, "I mean, oh god," he pulled away from her laughing. "I clearly have not been in a room with a pretty girl in a very long time."
"I kinda like it," she smiled. "Guys are always about the lips and the boobs," she rolled her big chocolate eyes at him. "Didn't take the sheriff of Hawkins to be a nose guy."
"Are you hungry? Thirsty?" Steve asked trying to change the subject. He walked toward the kitchen island taking note of the folding laundry in the basket.
He dug through pulling a clean sweater out and shucked off his wet uniform with his back to Edith. He tugged the warm navy sweater over his head and looked back to see her staring at him over the couch.
Steve smiled softly, pulling the sweater out and down so it lay against his stomach neatly. Edith's cheeks were flushed red and her lips parted like she was about to say something.
"Here," Max interrupted standing at the bottom of the stairs with a handful of laundry and a brush. "Leave mouth breather," Max ordered Steve.
He gave them privacy, taking his wet shirt down to the basement so Max could help Edith. He chucked the shirt into the washing machine, turning around he leaned against it and stared at the basement stairs lost in thought.
He would like to believe Hawkins was cursed but how bad could it be if it had given him a chance to see Edith again?
"Earth to dipshit," Max waved her hand in his face. "We're out of laundry soap," she said as his focus came back.
"Thank you," he said softly, "for doing the laundry and finding Edith some warm clothes."
"I wouldn't wanna spend the night in wet clothes," Max shrugged. "It was no big deal."
"Max," Steve said gently, "thank you."
"Ya, ya don't get all sappy on me, brother," she raised an eyebrow at him and he flung his arm around her.
"You want some hot chocolate?" Steve asked leading her toward the stairs with his hand rubbing against her hair.
"I think I still have marshmallows stashed," she huffed, acting as if she was annoyed. "Can we watch a Christmas story?"
"Again?" Steve laughed as they came up from the basement, they had already watched it once that week. And three times the week before.
Edith sat curled on the couch, her fingers wrapped around her camera and the flash went off before Steve could untangle himself from Max. Her hair was tugged back into a loose ponytail and she wore one of Steve's old gym shirts. The grey one with the Hawkins High logo on it.
Max wandered toward the tv, as Steve gravitated to Edith. "I hope you like Christmas movies," he said leaning over the back of the couch.
Edith looked up at him over her shoulder, "I don't watch many, too much driving to get stories."
"I'm sorry the Cafe was ready this morning," Steve said as he moved back to the kitchen. "If you're cleared by a real doctor tomorrow I can drive you over. You went through all this hell, you can't miss the way it looks when Bower is done with it. It's... magical." He boiled the water over the stove and leaned on the counter. Watching her watch him.
"I believe that," she said. "There's something about Hawkins. It's like a magnet."
"While you chat with Bower I'll get your car pulled from the ditch," Steve said trying to avoid the topic of Hawkins with her.
"How long do you think it'll take to fix my car?" She asked.
"The damage was intense but only the guys at the shop will know how bad. We can put you up at the hotel in town," Steve explained.
She nodded, turning back to watch Max as she set up the movie and got comfy in her favourite chair. It had been Steve's dad, he could never bare to sit in it. It had always felt wrong, but the second she became a permanent fixture, Max had claimed it. He brought the girls their drinks and found a place next to Edith with a beer in hand. Max turned the lights off and started the movie, her back turned and her focus on little Ralphie.
"I have more than enough," Edith lifted the blanket with her toes and urged him to take the corner. She wiggled her toes under his thigh as he pulled the excess blanket over himself.
Before long Max was fast asleep in her chair and Edith was well on her way. He put the cups in the sink circling back to tuck Max in under a heavy wool blanket.
Kneeling beside Edith she smiled at him softly, "you sure you'll be okay here?" He asked her, hovering closer than he should to get one last smell of her perfume. "You can have my bed, I can sleep—,"
Edith pressed her swollen lips to his, ceasing the conversation he was having with himself. She lifted her hand, tangling her fingers in his sweater and tugged him closely toward her deepening the kiss. Steve's hand brushed against her face, his fingers tickling her neck and engulfing her tiny face in his palm. She tasted like salt, hot chocolate and candy cane as her tongue swiped into his mouth and tangled with his.
She pulled back slowly, looking at him with her hand still gripping his sweater. Both completely out of breath she left Steve craving more of the sweet peppermint taste.
"Thank you for saving my life," she whispered.
"Oh you are welcome," he brushed his nose against hers and stole another taste. Unable to control himself. He hooked his finger into the navy collar of her shirt, his shirt.
She stared at him with wide eyes, "was it that bad?" He laughed, "I haven't kissed anyone in a while. Especially not someone who looks prettier than me in that shirt."
"Stop it," she giggled, and blood rushed to her cheeks. "It was perfect."
"Then why do you look terrified?" He asked.
"Not terrified, just seeing clearly. Stay with me tomorrow for my interview at the Cafe. I think my story should be about the whole town." She smiled, brushing her thumb over his bottom lip.
"Why the change of topic?" He asked, kissing the pad of her thumb before she could pull away.
"The cafe wouldn't be magic if it wasn't for the people of Hawkins. The story is about that, the townspeople. People like you and your sister."
"Alright," he nodded. "But if I do this, you owe me dinner."
"I think I owe you more than dinner," she laughed, kissing him one last time. Her lips lingered on his, her eyes fluttering shut.
"I'll tell the boys to take their time with your car," he laughed against her mouth.
"Whatever you say, Sheriff." She pulled him down on top of her, wrapping her fingers into his hair and deepening the kiss for the second time.

X world friends
Tumblr media
Excelsior Henderson community is the longest I’ve ever participated any organization other than employment.
I’ve been a certified soccer coach for 12 years. Fire/Rescue as stated before. Some black powder. And a few Ford clubs.
I obviously had developed some very good friends within this community. This doesn’t lessen my friendships outside of X world, but in truth broadens it, for me to experience new things.
My X world friends hold value.
I have lost a few in the near past years. Gary (Jumper) Houk out of Virginia... one of the best ambassadors for our community. Always up, always for what ever is good for the group. In public most likely in great behavior. I’ve witnessed him helping Cafe staff serve food, when we’d invade the local Cafe for a meal... overwhelming them.
I got to meet him in person the first time at the X rally in Minnesota in 2012. Via Email and phone calls he appeared bigger than life.
In person it was all real. Waking up second morning of the Roast and Ride in Elkton Virginia, to him singing at the top of his lungs.... “Paint your wagon”
At one of the rallys in Minnesota, he got pulled over, and the officer found a pistol in one of his bags.  Officer questioned whether it was loaded...   “what good would it be unloaded???” Judge let him go back to Virginia, and he came back to serve his time in the local jail. I think it was a weekend??
Don’t know if he ever married, and pretty sure he had no children. A faithful Methodist, and supporter of his church.
Younger than I, but close, he passed away in his sleep from heart failure.
Another we lost was Gary Thomforde from Minnesota. Gary was on a ride, and missed a 90 degree turn. Comments have been said that he knew that turn well, and suspect a health incident.... no skid marks.
I didn’t get to know Gary well, until his last year with us. Retired, and very soft spoken. All about EH’s. Had a huge hoard of parts, he had bought thru the years. And was always willing to sell and at a fair price to help out other owners.
We had chatted on the phone the night before he died. I found out several days later, he had passed.
Another, younger member of the group was James Farnham. I think he was in his early 50′s if that old. Just a good guy. Thought all of us old guys were genius’s...     James died suicide, via anguish of a horrible health issue.   He was made of good stuff.
There have been several others  that have gone thru this 20 plus years, but I didn’t know them personally, or even had exchanged conversations via WWW.
As for the rest. I’d guess there are around 150+ active members in the club/group/community. I probably have met each and everyone one way or the other... via internet, in person, or via phone.
Of that number, I feel really comfortable with about 20 or so. And close with 10.
In the picture above is a few of the 10....   Left to right... Julie Liskie girlfriend of Dave Mcquitty next to her... both in Overland Park Kansas. Next to them is Jumper Marshal Virginia. Next to me is “fat Jesus” Dennis Bennet of Huron South Dakota.
In this shot you may noticed how red some of our faces are.... full day ride in the Ozark mountains. And most likely 1 beer in.
This shot was taken at Little Rock Arkansas.... our motel parking lot.
I love this picture, as it has the best of thoughts of Jumper. Makes me smile every time.
Dennis and I see each other about once a year, and mostly as we arent that far apart. About 6 hours distance. He’s made of good stuff too, and we get a long well.
Ken Bretz also doesn’t live that far away.... Minnesota....   and has partaken with our adventures with the Antique motorcycle cannonballers. Kansas, Iowa, South Dakota.
Ken, Dennis, and I are all members of the Team Fat Jesus scooter cannonball event this spring. We are the beans...
The social class of this group is all over the place. We have folks that are financially set for life. Huge working class for the most part, that we all have worked hard. And others that struggle to keep their X’s running looking for pennies. We all seem to get along well, and would go out of our way to help each other.
East coast members seem to be tighter than the rest of us, and to be honest I’m not sure to this day why/how that happened. They are a good intended bunch, and don’t treat the rest of us any different. But there is a relationship they all have that the rest of us don’t appear to have.
So many members go out of their way to support the group as small as we are. I’m constantly amazed at how many across the board type of folks in this group, and yet an extremely small number of problems members, if any.
I’m used to the rule of thumb experienced by me... once you get around 8 members of anything, there’s going to be at least 1 asshole that is there for the wrong reason.
Not sure how Phil Marks and I got tied together. We talk frequently on the phone. And try to make events that we know each other will be attending. Phil is older than I by a couple of years. Has lived in Pennsylvania his whole life. Always has me laughing at some hysterical story/event that has happened to him.
With his emotions running full throttle in his stories, and his accent, plus hand language, ... I just can’t help but laugh.
Our likenesses from our pasts is cosmic... or something I can’t describe. He had a Norton, I did too. He had a Capri, as I. He had an early Ford Broncho, same with us. His Wife’s name is Pat, and mine Hunny is Patti. There are a few more, that make a person scratch their head...
On the other end of familiarly, thru the group, I became friends with John Kane in England. .... via facebook.  John loved to buy American memorabilia here, and then ship it to England. Cars, motorcycles, parts, etc....  what ever suited him at the moment. Talked to him on the phone once, and lots of DM’s thru facebook back in the day. He was using me as a central point of delivery, and then I’d help him out getting all of his items to a port, to ship home. I really enjoyed it, and it was a great experience. Something new in my flat land slow paced life. It was fun.  John had a severe stroke, and its been difficult at best to keep up to speed with him.   I do miss our short messaging and emails.
Have met several of the Swedes in the group. Good folks, that enjoy American Motorcycles, and I’d suspect they own several of all the brands.
At the end of my facebook membership, I was just starting to get acquainted with a younger guy in Russia who owned an X.
If for some crazy reason I could not be a part of this organization any more...   I’d miss the bunch of them big time....
Its been real
UPDATE: AJ Fago...... Hang in there buddy, we are all rooting for you.

Five Times Loid and Yor Almost Kiss, and One Time They Actually Do
Fandom: SPY x FAMILY Pairings / Characters: Loid x Yor / Loid, Yor, Yuri, Frankie, Anya, Henry Henderson Summary: Or, the Forgers try their best to maintain the farce.
Word Count: 4,321 Read on ao3.
-
0001
Despite his recent demotion from housemaster to simple homeroom teacher, Henry Henderson was wholly dedicated to the success of Eden Academy. As such, he made an effort to continue his customary patrols around campus grounds to ensure that everything was in proper and elegant condition.
Henderson paused during his rounds as he spotted a familiar couple standing outside of the main building, alongside housemaster Murdoch Swan.
The Forgers, he quickly realized.
Henderson moved swiftly, finding a hiding place within earshot around the corner of the building. It was not a particularly regal action, he knew, but the teacher was curious as to how the Forgers would handle Swan this time.
“What brings you here?” he heard Swan sneer.
“We’re dropping off documents for our daughter’s enrollment,” came Mr Forger’s calm response.
“Oh, your daughter. The one who cried at the littlest thing—truly, a disgrace to Eden Academy.”
Henderson glanced around the corner at those words. He saw the way Ms Forger’s hands clenched and unclenched into fists, yet she remained silent. It had become increasingly obvious to Henderson that Swan was simply trying to rile up the couple as he prattled off more rude remarks—most likely in an attempt to cause a big enough scene to justify rescinding their daughter’s acceptance into the academy.
How inelegant.
The Forgers, however, seemed to be taking his comments in stride. They evidently had enough elegance to pick up on Swan’s scheming.
“And Ms Forger, it must be so difficult knowing that your daughter will always prefer her first mother over you,” Swan continued, his voice dripping in contempt. “The way she still cries over her.”
Henderson felt the sudden urge to punch Swan in the face once more.
“Master Swan,” Mr Forger cut in, steely, “we really must be on our way.”
Swan ignored his interjection, choosing to direct his attention to his wife instead. “Does your husband prefer her as well? He won’t even hold your hand—won’t even kiss you, will he?”
Swan laughed, a harsh sound.
“It’s really none of your business,” Ms Forger gritted out.
He laughed again. “Why won’t he just kiss you then? Then I won’t make it any more of my business.”
At that, Mr Forger took a step closer to his wife. His arm moved and he cupped her cheek with his right hand, then tilted her chin up towards him. He leaned in, close.
Henderson couldn’t stop the scandalized gasp that escaped his lips. Such a public display of affection, on school grounds? How inelegant!
Surely he couldn’t be wrong about the Forgers. They had proved themselves wonderfully on the day of their application interview, after all. He was willing to watch this through to the end, to give them the benefit of the doubt yet again. Surely they wouldn’t disappoint.
When Mr Forger pulled back, he raised his hand to display something. A handkerchief, Henderson quickly deduced. On it, a streak of ruby red marked the pure white of the fabric.
“Sorry, Yor, I had noticed that your lipstick smudged,” he apologized, tone soft. He elegantly pocketed the handkerchief, then turned to face Swan once again.
Though he couldn’t see his face clearly, Henderson was almost certain Mr Forger was shooting daggers at Swan with his eyes. His voice was cold as he stated, “I have no obligation to make my wife uncomfortable to appease you.”
Swan sputtered indignantly in response.
“Now, we really must be going.” Mr Forger ended the conversation there, grabbing his wife’s hand as they swiftly walked away.
Henderson couldn’t help the smile that formed on his lips as he watched the couple depart.
Truly, the Forgers were the embodiment of elegance.

If there was one thing that Yuri was certain about his sister, it was that she deserved the world. And so much more, to be completely honest.
She had, after all, done everything for him when they were children. She had worked hard to maintain normality in their fragmented family after everything had fallen apart. She picked up the pieces when they had nothing more than each other and their broken smiles. She was, frankly, everything he had, the only person who could still allow him to feel something as simplistic as childish joy—something he had since long thrown away for her.
Loid Forger, Yuri pointedly decided, was not the world. Sure, the man seemed to be smart, well-articulated, and well put together. Sure, he was also a talented cook, and he probably made a good amount of money too based off of their living space, and perhaps he was devilishly handsome as well (in a completely objective way; Yuri was objective like that)—but he was not good enough for Yor.
Yuri couldn’t help glaring at his sister’s husband as he sat in the living room of their shared home, nursing a bottle of wine. He was here to evaluate the man’s worthiness; likely a fruitless endeavor, because he settled on his conclusion within seconds.
His sister was incredibly kind and despite her monstrous strength, a delicate woman! She deserved someone who would look after and protect her, someone who had her best interests in mind, someone who would move heaven and earth for her. Loid struck him more as the type who would move just one or the other, not both. In his completely objective opinion.
Drunkenly, he demanded to see some intimacy between the couple, to prove that it was real. To prove that she was really, truly happy. It made perfect sense in his inebriated stupor.
Yuri quietly observed as the two sat near each other, whispering soft words to one another. They leaned in, their faces moving in for a kiss. Their lips were close, almost touching. He was filled with dread as he watched his sister—his family—being taken away from him in front of his very eyes.
He wasn’t ready, he realized. He was still just a little boy in a broken home clinging so dearly to his older sister
But the fact that she had been so clearly smitten with her husband, hurtling her own brother across their living room as he darted forward to pull them apart, just so she could kiss Loid, had his own world turning upside down. It became apparent that he hadn’t properly considered the extent of Yor’s feelings.
Maybe he wasn’t ready yet, but she was.
Nobody would be good enough for his sister, he knew.
He tainted his hands in blood for her, after all; gave up a life of innocence for her to live one of normalcy and happiness following their crooked childhood.
Maybe if Loid could give her even a semblance of the happy family that they were, that she so deserved, he would allow it.
Until then, he would continue to dye himself in red to protect her everyday life.
0011
“And that was all I was able to figure out, given the timing,” Frankie stated. Twilight was quiet, a contemplative look on his face. As they stood together in silence, outside a cafe in the city’s core downtown, the everyday bustle of the lunchtime rush continued around them. Sometimes it was easiest to hide in the open, when you could see everyone yet no one at the same time.
“Man, I thought you’d be more concerned, to be honest,” Frankie eventually remarked.
“Give me a moment. I’m just thinking. They’ve been stretching me thin with all this work lately, but I couldn’t turn down this project either,” Twilight answered. “Have you considered looking into—”
“—Loid?” a familiar voice interrupted. The two men stopped and turned towards the sound of the voice.
Frankie saw the way his friend’s entire posture flipped in a second and how his mouth quirked upwards into a fake smile at the sight of his fake wife. As expected of a high-class agent like Twilight.
“Hello, Yor,” Twilight greeted. “I wasn’t expecting to see you around here.”
“I was just passing by; my boss sent me on an errand,” she explained, an amicable (genuine, Frankie noted) smile on her face. She turned to Frankie next, the smile still on her lips. “Thank you for always lending us a hand with Anya.”
He cracked a grin. “No worries. Loid’s one of my best friends; I’m more than happy to lend him a helping hand. And Anya’s a lovely little girl too, so it’s always a pleasure.”
Twilight wasn’t the only one who could pull off a fake persona at the drop of a hat, he mused to himself.
“I’m happy to hear that,” Yor beamed. “Anyway, it was good seeing you again, but I should probably get going now.”
Twilight tipped his hat at her and Frankie noticed him say something, but he didn't hear what. Then he saw her lean in close, so close it almost looked like a kiss—until she turned her face away at the last second and instead, whispered something in her fake husband’s ear. Her own ears were flushed red as she pulled away and bid them both a quick goodbye before hurrying off.
Once she was out of earshot, Frankie turned to look at Twilight, an eyebrow raised questioningly as he asked, “What was all that about?”
“She told me that she likes cheese,” he deadpanned, evidently unfazed by her impromptu declaration.
“How romantic,” he snorted. “That was a terrible attempt at a goodbye kiss.”
“I suspect she’s become more conscious about how we’re perceived as a married couple due to some recent events, but actions like these aren’t necessary. Not that we need to prove anything to you, anyway.” He frowned. “Besides, I’m not trying to bring feelings into this—”
“You never do,” Frankie interjected.
“—But she might.”
He blinked. “And why would you care if she does?”
The spy took a second longer to reply than usual, but it was still a noticeable enough second for Frankie—”I don’t.”
“Oh, that’s a cold way to treat your wife,” he said wryly, then straightened up. “Well, that’s how it should be anyway—but just a heads up, acting like shy schoolkids as a supposedly married couple doesn’t do much for you guys.”
“I’m well aware, but she’s not trained for this.” Twilight let out a sigh; Frankie knew that partnering up with outsiders had been a pain point for the agent since the very start of the mission.
“Then is it really so bad if she feels something a little real for you? Isn’t that good for the story?” he inquired. “That’s how it’s always been for your other… ‘relationships.’”
“… No, you’re right; it’s all one-sided. It normally wouldn’t be a problem.” He raised a hand to his chin, a thoughtful expression on his face. “It’d certainly be more convincing, at the very least.”
Normally, Frankie wanted to repeat, but didn't.
He let out a sigh, reaching out to place a hand on Twilight’s shoulder. The agent moved, shrugging him off almost immediately. Frankie continued, “Well, you can’t say I didn’t say anything.”
“I know what I’m doing and how to approach this,” Twilight said, voice steely, “and I’ll see this through to the very end.”
“I’m not doubting your capabilities, y’know,” Frankie replied, and left it at that.
Yet there was a part of him that still wondered.
0100
Yor entered the apartment at four in the morning as quietly as she could. She was thankful for the fact that she and Loid had separate bedrooms; it made slipping in and out of their home during the night so much easier for her job.
She tiptoed through the living room but abruptly stopped once she noticed Loid, fast asleep on their couch. She frowned.
Long hours again with his patients, she realized, belatedly remembering that he had yet to return home by the time she left for her own work—belatedly remembering how she had tucked Anya into bed earlier that evening and assured her that Loid would be back soon.
Again, it made things so much easier for her like this.
Still, she couldn’t help but admire how hard he worked for his clients—for Anya. It reminded her a bit of herself when she was younger, working herself to literal bone and blood for Yuri.
Her feet moved on their own, leading her further into the living room until she was squatted next to her sleeping partner. She watched the soft rise and fall of his chest, listened to his quiet breaths. He must have been exhausted if he couldn’t even make it to his bedroom. Their couch wasn’t nearly long enough for him to be comfortable; his feet were propped up awkwardly at the other end, and that atrocious sleeping posture would probably lead to a sore neck in the morning.
In the silence of the night, Yor found herself studying his features. It wasn’t often she had this opportunity; after all, their entire marriage wasn’t real. There was no reason to ever get so personal like this, not unless they were keeping up appearances in public.
There were bags under his eyes and his hair was unkempt, she noted, nothing like how it usually was during the day. He was fatigued, no doubt about it. Despite everything, Yor found herself smiling.
He was a good father to Anya. He worked tirelessly for his daughter, she could tell.
Yor wanted to do her best for Anya, too. She knew how hard it could be to lose a mother—to have a family of just one other. Even if it was for only a while, she wanted to give Anya a happy family. She wanted Anya to live the happy, normal life she never really had; the happy, normal life she worked so hard to give to Yuri.
A happy family with a happily in love mother and father.
She shifted slightly, her head tilting forward.
Loid stirred in his sleep then and she felt her breath catch in her throat.
Suddenly, she was acutely aware of how close she had gotten to him. She felt her face warm as she swiftly pulled away, almost stumbling on her feet.
Oh, no.
No, no, no.
She was tired too—tired because it was four in the morning, tired because she just expended all of her energy on her latest assignment. She evidently wasn’t thinking clearly, and she definitely hadn’t just been leaning in to leave a kiss on his lips, not while he was asleep. And if she had been, it was only because she was tired from work!
Yor straightened her back.
Right. Her mission was done. She needed to go clean up now, needed to scrub off the dried blood from her hands before the sun rose. She hurried to her bedroom, quickly discarded her bloodied clothes and washed up before crawling into bed.
She tried not to dwell too much on what had almost just happened, tried not to think about what it would have felt like.
It wasn’t long until her exhaustion took over and she drifted to sleep, dreaming of a simple happy family.

“Thanks for coming again, Loid,” said Yor as the couple walked into her latest corporate party.
“Of course,” was his simple reply.
“Honestly, it’s not like Yuri is watching over us this time, so I don’t think you needed to come for this one,” she murmured, voice low.
“If I hadn’t come, people would talk,” he answered in a similarly low tone. “They’d ask questions.”
Yor pursed her lips in contemplation. “Well, it’s probably fine for you to miss out on one or two of these parties. You’ve been pulling long hours at work, after all.”
“These aren’t frequent enough that it’d be something to worry about,” he dismissed with a wave of his hand, briefly recalling the first work party they had attended together as part of their original arrangement. “It’s better to just avoid any questions outright if we can. It was my slip up in the first place, after all.”
She let out a light laugh. “I guess you’re right. You’ve really thought this through, Loid.”
He blinked. “Of course I have. Besides, it’s only fair I keep up my end of our agreement. You spend more time with Anya than I do at these kinds of events.”
He didn’t want a repeat of what had occurred with Yuri. No more questions, just a perfect couple. A perfect family.
“I like spending time with Anya,” she hummed.
His lips quirked upwards into a small smile. “Well, I’m glad to hear that.”
“Anyway, let’s try to enjoy ourselves!” Yor beamed. The couple made their way around the party, exchanging greetings with each of Yor’s coworkers. Simple small talk was shared, and Twilight spoke vaguely of work as a psychiatrist. When Camilla arrived, she threw around a few pointed remarks before trotting off with her boyfriend in a huff. Time passed quickly despite all of the mundane conversations; he was accustomed to attending meaningless parties for the sake of his missions.
With the party now in full swing, Twilight made note of how the dance floor was filling up. Upon inspection, it appeared to be occupied primarily by couples in romantic relationships—so the next move was clear.
“Yor, would you like to dance?” he asked, holding up his hand to her.
A light blush dusted her cheeks at the suggestion. Still, she grasped his hand in hers. “I’m not much of a dancer, though.”
Twilight politely excused themselves from the small group of partygoers they had been speaking to. He offered Yor a reassuring smile as he led her onto the dance floor, saying, “Just follow my lead.”
She nodded and gave him an unsure smile of her own in return.
She was surprisingly good on her feet, however, able to match each of his steps. He, of course, had perfected multiple types of ballroom dancing over the years—from the waltz to the foxtrot to the quickstep. A good leader was key to ballroom dancing, but it was still imperative that the partner could skillfully follow.
Yor did as much, following every move with precision throughout the entire song.
On the final beat, Twilight leaned in close, his cheek pressed next to hers. He could feel her breath on his neck, warm.
This was when he would normally sweep his date off their feet, seduce them away into the quiet of the night and whisper sweet nothings into their ear until they started whispering everything—secrets, speculations, carefully concealed truths.
But this was Yor—his partner, unlike every other woman he used as a necessary pawn—so instead, he strategically angled their faces in such a way that he knew would make it look as though they were kissing. Yor let out a squeak as he shifted their posture, but still maintained the position.
After counting to five, they separated.
Twilight flashed her his most perfect smile—people were watching, after all—and she mumbled something incoherent in response, her face still glowing a soft pink.
He thought back to Frankie, thought about feelings. What feelings? There was nothing to worry about.
He was an expert.
And Yor was—
“—Wow,” she breathed, “wow. You’re a really good dancer, Loid.”
He shrugged his shoulders. “The waltz isn’t very difficult.”
“Still! It was impressive,” she reiterated. As if to prove her point, a coworker approached the two to compliment them on their dance. Soon they were dragged into another group conversation, and the rest of the night continued without a hitch.
Another successful task accomplished, Twilight concluded as they left the venue together, arm in arm; they were the perfect couple.

“Becky told me that boys have cooties,” Anya declared as she and Yor sat at the dinner table, waiting for Loid to finish plating. Loid had pointedly removed Yor from any and all duties pertaining to dinner despite her protests and sulking, citing her most recent kitchen disaster as reason enough.
Loid let out a noncommittal grunt in response as he moved all of the food onto the table.
“She said that boys are stinky, too,” Anya continued as Loid pulled up a seat next to her and across from Yor. “Mama, is that why you don’t wanna kiss Papa? Because he’s stinky? Cooties?”
He coughed.
“Eh? Oh, no. No, Papa isn’t stinky!” Yor waved her hands around animatedly as though that somehow helped her point. Loid gave her a weary look.
Anya made a face. “Well, Papa and Mama still haven’t kissed yet! Is it cooties, then?”
“No, Anya, it’s not cooties.” He sighed.
“That’s what someone with cooties would say,” she huffed.
Yor let out a soft laugh and he sighed again.
“I’m not gonna do my homework until Papa and Mama kiss!” Anya suddenly exclaimed.
At that proclamation, something seemed to switch on within Loid. His back straightened and it was almost as though he was on high alert. “Anya. Anya, you need to do your homework. If you don’t, you’ll fall behind in class. We can’t have you falling behind in class, Anya.”
She pouted in response and defiantly shook her head.
“Anya,” he started, voice stern.
Yor coughed into her fist then, drawing his attention.
Her voice was low as she asked, “Well, should we…? I mean, it’s important for Anya to do her work. And it’s just… just a kiss. It’s something we should be able to do.”
Her cheeks flushed at the very suggestion.
He frowned. “We shouldn’t spoil her by following through with these kinds of silly demands.”
Yor paused as though she wanted to say something about his remark. She didn’t.
Eventually, she spoke, “You’re right. But Anya’s really pouting there.”
She tilted her head to the little girl in question, her cheeks puffed in rebellion.
“She can pout as much as she wants, but we don’t need to do this. She’ll drop it eventually, like she always does,” he reiterated.
A pause. His brow furrowed as though he was deep in thought. “Probably.”
He looked back at Anya then and saw her reaching across the table, her hands gesturing towards him.
“It’s rude to have your arms on the table, Anya,” he instinctively reprimanded.
“But this is important, Papa,” she stated confidently. She clenched and unclenched her hands in an opening motion, trying to get Loid to do the same. He eventually complied, opening up his fist. On his palm, Anya confidently traced the shape of a circle, then pressed her index finger into his skin a couple of times over.
“There, now you’re safe! Becky taught me how to do a cootie shoot, too. So Mama doesn’t need to worry anymore.” She pulled back, looking especially proud of herself.
“Wow, Anya! That’s amazing!” Yor clapped her hands together in praise.
She beamed, “Now Mama and Papa can kiss.”
Loid let out another sigh. He opened his mouth to speak again, but was promptly interrupted by a familiar theme song blaring loudly from the television in the living room. Anya whipped her head around at the sound, her eyes wide.
“Anya, you haven’t eaten dinner yet,” Loid reminded, his tone exasperated.
“Nooo, I don’t want to miss Spy Wars,” she whined in response.
He gave her a look.
“I’ll do my homework, Papa, I promise! After Spy Wars!”
Again, something seemed to switch on within Loid. He stood up from his seat then and moved to scoop Anya up into his arms. “Only for tonight. Then you’re doing your homework after dinner. No complaints, and no more cootie shots.”
“Promise!” Anya nodded her head rapidly, all worries about cooties and stinky boys suddenly forgotten.
He exchanged a glance with Yor then; she smiled knowingly.
Loid sighed for the umpteenth time that evening as he headed into the living room with Anya.
After Spy Wars, dinner, and another valiant attempt at fractions, Anya was tucked snugly into bed.
Standing in the hallway, their home felt a lot quieter now that Anya was asleep. Sometimes she truly felt like the life of their makeshift family, loud and playful and full of energy.
But the quiet was important, too. They needed their rest—deserved it, given how hectic it had been earlier in the evening.
Loid opened his mouth then, ready to wish Yor a good night.
“I don’t think you’re stinky, Loid,” Yor suddenly declared before he could speak.
He closed his mouth. Opened it again. “I don’t think you’re stinky either?”
“Good! I mean, thank you! I mean, that’s not what I actually mean!” she exclaimed.
He cocked an eyebrow. “What are you talking about, Yor?”
“I… I don’t think you’re stinky, and I don’t think you have cooties either,” she repeated.
He nodded his head, encouraging her to continue.
“So, this is…,” she trailed off, her cheeks warming. “This is… just how it is.”
She took a step closer, then another, until they stood almost touching.
“Yor, I really don’t know what you—”
Grabbing the collar of his shirt, she pulled him down towards her. Her mouth pressed against his, a gentle, brief kiss. Her lips were soft and she smelled sweet, Loid noticed with startling realization. His hand twitched, almost moving to rest on her hip until he consciously stopped himself.
Releasing her grip on his shirt, she took a step back. Her face was completely red and her eyes were directed at the floor with sudden interest.
He blinked once, twice.
Before he could say a word, Yor stuttered a high-pitched “good night!” and abruptly rushed into her bedroom, slamming the door behind her with almost enough force to rip it off its hinges.
He stood there.
Looked at her bedroom door, then his.
Stood a bit longer.
The hardwood under his feet felt different as he eventually made his way into his own room.
That night as he laid in bed, he speculated over the 28 possible explanations for her actions.
