Hello 🌼 I was thanking about facial hair. I'm AFAB. I don't plan on going on T (and I heard it can make you grow facial hair naturally?) but I still would want to grow a beard, or a mustache perhaps, in the future. Would hair transplant help me with that or would my hight estrogen/ lower testosterone make it not work out?
Lee says:
For folks who are unfamiliar, a facial hair transplant involves taking hair from a donor site on your body (usually the back of the head) and transplanting it to your facial region.
It's a common procedure for individuals who cannot grow facial hair naturally or who have patchy beards, and a beard transplant is a viable option for people who do not want testosterone, or were not happy with the amount of facial hair they grew on testosterone.
Transplanted hair behaves like natural hair. Once it's transplanted, it will fall out initially and then start to grow back over the next few months, eventually growing like regular facial hair, even if you're not on testosterone.
AnotherPascal has posted about his beard transplant on Instagram and TransLife&Wife has posted about his on YouTube.
There's an article about beard transplants for trans folks called Facial Hair Transplantation for Transgender Patients: A Literature Review and Guidelines for Practice that was published in the Aesthetic Surgery Journal in 2021. I believe it's open access and I would highly encourage you to read the whole thing!
Like natural facial hair, transplanted hair may require regular trimming or shaving, depending on your desired look.
Testosterone & facial hair:
However, as you've heard, testosterone can indeed stimulate facial hair growth, which is why individuals who take testosterone (T) may experience increased facial hair over time.
You mentioned you do not plan on taking T, which is perfectly valid, but if you think there's a chance that you may change your mind in the future then I would consider waiting for the facial hair transplant until you're at least a couple of years on T because it can take time for your facial hair to fill in.
If you choose to not take T and just go straight for the transplant, having higher levels of estrogen won't necessarily negate the effects of a hair transplant. The transplanted hair is genetically programmed to grow in its new location.
In theory, the lack of testosterone might mean that the hair grows less densely or slowly than it might for someone with higher testosterone levels, but I don't think that's necessarily the case here because the follicles being transplanted are from the head so they'd behave more like head hair than beard hair.
Finding a Trans-Friendly Provider (for a facial hair transplant):
If you're considering a facial hair transplant, the first step is to consult a doctor specializing in hair restoration. They can assess your hair quality, discuss your expectations, and determine whether you're a good candidate for the procedure.
Referrals: Consider asking for referrals from local LGBTQ+ groups, transgender support groups, or healthcare providers known to be trans-friendly.
Consultations: Schedule consultations with potential surgeons. Use this opportunity to ask about their experience with transgender patients and facial hair transplants specifically.
Online Research: Look for reviews or testimonials online. Some websites are dedicated to reviewing medical professionals, and others are focused on the LGBTQ+ community.
Professional Organizations: Check if the surgeon is a member of professional organizations like the World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH), which could indicate they're up-to-date on best practices for transgender healthcare.
Keep in mind that any surgical procedure comes with risks and costs. Ensure you're aware of these, and don't hesitate to seek a second opinion if you're unsure.
It might also be helpful to connect with others who have undergone similar procedures or are exploring similar options. Online communities, support groups, or LGBTQ+ centers can be great resources, but it isn't a very common procedure so you may have more look looking to cisgender men who have done similar things.
Facial hair transplants are often considered cosmetic procedures, which many insurance plans do not cover. However, coverage varies widely, so it's important to check with your insurance provider. It may be possible to appeal a denial for coverage by saying testosterone isn't indicated for you so this is a necessary treatment to resolve gender dysphoria etc.
If a procedure can be deemed medically necessary (for example, as part of gender-affirming treatment), insurance might cover it. A therapist might be able to help you make this case to your insurance company by writing a WPATH-style letter of support saying that you need it for Gender Dysphoria Reasons tm. It's also helpful if the office of the doctor doing the hair transplant writes a letter of medical necessity too.
Look for a surgeon who is board-certified in plastic surgery or dermatological surgery. This indicates they've met specific educational, training, and professional standards. It's also beneficial if the surgeon has experience with transgender patients, as they may be more attuned to your specific needs and goals, and may know how to get insurance to cover it.
It may seem obvious, but you have to make sure they have extensive experience with hair transplants, particularly facial hair transplants. Unfortunately some doctors are in it for the money and don't put patients first and/or think they're more capable than they are. To make sure they're up to the task, ask to see before and after photos of previous facial hair transplants they've performed, especially for patients with similar goals to yours.
And again, look for patient reviews or testimonials about their experiences with the surgeon. Pay particular attention to the experiences of trans individuals. I can't emphasize how important we are as a community-- we need to look out for each other and make sure that people don't see predatory providers!
Finally, it's crucial that you feel at least somewhat comfortable with the surgeon. They should treat you with respect, listen to your concerns, and provide thorough, honest answers to your questions. You don't need to be best buddies and they don't need a stellar personality either, but you need to feel like they're competent and that you are comfortable asking them questions about your care and could speak to them if you had complications.
While you wait for your consult, there is one alternative that you can try.
Minoxidil (Rogaine):
You can try minoxidil to increase your hair growth. A lot of people use minoxidil (rogaine) on their faces, and a few use it for body hair. It’s considered an “off-label” use- it’s officially approved for head hair and not other locations. Lots of medicines are used off-label, even prescriptions can be given off-label safely. Topical minoxidil is generally safe, as long as you use the dose recommended by the doctor/the bottle.
There's anecdotal evidence that minoxidil can stimulate new facial hair growth and may help thicken existing hairs. However, its effectiveness can vary, and there's limited scientific research on its use for facial hair specifically.
You can get it over-the-counter (aka without a prescription) online through Amazon or other sites, or at a pharmacy like CVS or Walgreens (it’s usually in the isle with men’s hair products like beard dye, and razors).
Minoxidil is generally safe but can cause side effects like dry skin, itching, and irritation. It's also a long-term commitment; you'll need to continue using it to maintain any new hair growth.
You shouldn’t use more than the recommended dose per day, no matter what body part it goes on (i.e. you shouldn’t cover your legs in it, unless you can stretch the normal dose that far). This is because minoxidil is a vasodilator, which lowers blood pressure. You also shouldn’t use oral minoxidil for hair growth because oral minoxidil is used primarily to lower blood pressure.
Will minoxidil (i.e., Rogaine) enhance my facial hair growth?
Using Minox for facial hair
Minox is deadly to some pets like cats and may cause hair growth in unusual places
A high concentration of minoxidil (like 12.5%) can cause low blood pressure
My Personal Experience with Minoxidil Pre-T
If you have some peach fuzz from Minox, dying your existing hair darker with facial hair dye might make it more obvious. This is also true for your body hair.
Will facial hair dye make my facial hair appear thicker/denser?
Remember, there's no one "right" way to be you. Whether through medical procedures, hormone therapy, or personal expression, what matters most is that you feel comfortable and authentic in your own skin. If you're sure that you don't want T, then maybe a facial hair transplant might be the right option for you!
Followers, anything to add?

In a new peer-reviewed commentary published in the Journal of Sex & Marital Therapy, author, Dr. Sarah Jorgensen, argues that the medical community has a professional responsibility to recognize detransitioners as survivors of iatrogenic harm and provide them with the comprehensive medical and supportive care that they deserve.
Jorgensen notes that proponents of gender-affirming medical interventions have attempted to downplay regret and detransition as vanishingly rare based on outdated studies that are not applicable to cohorts of adolescent trans identifying females presenting to gender clinics today. They refuse to admit that the gender-affirming model is failing some patients and have instead tried to reframe detransition as neutral or even positive outcome, proposing euphemisms such as “gender journey,” “identity exploration,” or “dynamic desires for gender-affirming medical interventions,” to replace the term “detransition."
“Rather than acknowledging the severity of the problem or that the medical community bears responsibility for the harm done to these young people, the message is that there have been no mistakes - the situation is dynamic.”
Instead of asking what went wrong, what was missed, and what could have been done differently to prevent inappropriate medical transitions, proponents of gender-affirming care repeatedly make appeals to authority, “every major medical association in the United States supports gender-affirming care for minors,” seemingly oblivious to the move away from American-style affirmation-on-demand in many European countries:
“A growing number of health authorities in countries that were once proponents of youth medical transition are now changing practice and prioritizing psychotherapy and treatment of co-occurring developmental, psychosocial, and mental health problems after their own systematic reviews found the evidence supporting gender-affirming medical interventions to be weak and uncertain.”
Many detransitioners report that they find it challenging to access clinicians who can advise them on what to expect when discontinuing hormones or who have the knowledge and training to manage enduring adverse effects of hormonal therapies and surgical complications. Jorgensen notes that there is currently no guidance on best practices for clinicians involved in the care of detransitioners:
“The World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH) recently published its eighth Standards of Care document and chose not to include a chapter on detransition (Coleman et al., 2022). Likewise, the Endocrine Society’s Clinical Practice Guidelines for Gender-Dysphoria/Gender-Incongruence offers no advice on how to safely stop hormonal therapies (Hembree et al., 2017). The American Academy of Pediatrics failed to acknowledge the possibility of regret and detransition in their policy statement on care for children and adolescents with gender dysphoria (Rafferty et al., 2018).”
Jorgensen highlights multiple areas of uncertainty that will require open discussion and a commitment to clinical collaboration and research to resolve.
“We do not know what is driving the sharp rise in the number of young people being diagnosed or self-diagnosing with gender dysphoria (Cass, 2022; Kaltiala-Heino, Bergman, Tyolajarvi, & Frisen, 2018; Zucker, 2019). Likewise, we do not know why the case mix has rapidly shifted from predominantly young boys and middle-aged men to primarily adolescent females with complex mental health problems and neurodiversity (Aitken et al., 2015; Kaltiala-Heino et al., 2015; Zucker, 2019). The natural trajectory of transgender identification in this novel cohort is uncertain and we cannot predict who will be helped by gender-affirming medical interventions or who will be harmed. The long-term safety and effectiveness of these interventions is yet unknown (Hembree et al., 2017; Ludvigsson et al., 2023; NICE, 2020a, 2020b).”
Importantly, Jorgensen emphasizes that “we miss out on urgently needed data that could improve the outcomes of future patients by ignoring detransitioners.”
SEGM's Thoughts
The rate of medical detransition in the Western countries currently stands at 10-30% and is expected to grow. A number of the detransitioned patients will have permanent unwanted changes to the bodies and adverse long-term impacts on their physical and psychological health.
There is an urgent need to recognize detransition as a new phenomenon, and to structure the healthcare system in order to support this vulnerable patient population. However, due to the novelty of the detransition phenomenon, no diagnostic or procedure codes currently exist that either accurately capture the detransitioned patients' condition, or ensure provider reimbursement for the medical and mental health services that patients will need.
For this reason, it is urgent that the medical community initiate a conversation about what types of diagnostic and procedure codes are necessary to ensure the provision of high quality care to the individuals who detransition.

TW// topics of suicide; grief. a work of fiction
Crisp and cold air awakens her the moment she stepped in Zurich. For once it felt cold, unlike other days where it never bothered her. She was traveling alone, much different than what she had been used to with help from her assistants. Her carry-on follows suit as she takes a train ride to Zermatt. It was convenient that she was knowledgeable in traveling, but she was never a big fan of traveling on her own. She liked to be with someone to make memories with.
The train ride was beautiful, to say the least. Fields of nature greeted her every minute along with vast plateaus of the Swiss Alps. There were plenty of animals who made an appearance, like the furry cows she thought she could only see in photographs. The same mountain was seen where she was staying and it's imperfect outline and snowy cap made it felt as though she was looking at a travel zine. The surrounding was traditional and modern all at once with buildings that favored much more to the Western taste. Minseo had always appreciated the thought of being able to afford the luxury of staying anywhere without worrying about the cost.
Adjusting to it's time changes, she takes out a small journal, it was already filled with a pen tucked where she stopped before.
Seoul
“Do you care to tell me as to why you’re suddenly changing your will?” The older woman asks, her professional attire was much more intimidating than Minseo’s. “The last time I had to do this with you was when your father died.”
“Just updating things. Consider it as something necessary because of my bounty.” Her fingers make quotation marks in the air, trying to ease the tension between them. She gulps from no response. “I check over it quarterly, this is a first I changed it—“
“Changing it to strangers.” She finishes, looking at her with stern eyes. “The only person I know from here is Woori, Wenhan, and Xian. The rest are strangers.."
She moves her things aside to make space for the said briefcase, the metal casing was promptly opened with too many manila folders and file cases taken out one by one in orderly conduct. From left to right, in order of importance. The first was personal assets she wished to organize. Next was a specific folder just for her business, and the last was a brochure about her situation with something she never thought to even try.
“So we’ve agreed that most of your personal assets, liquid and otherwise mentioned— including several houses in other cities— would go to Mr. Wenhan Li, is that correct?”
“Yes. Do confirm the Jeju Vacation house too.”
“I’d like to assert that there is a Siho, Jun, Chaz, Yohan and Sangmi here that are still in the 30% of financial affidavit however much you’ve left. A few specific connotation includes two vehicles be sent to Mr. Bohyun Ahn and Ms. Elena Hazuki.” She looks on the woman’s hand trailing words on the paper and nods on agreement. “Land was also invested for the use of Mr. And Mrs. Matteo Collin as well as Mr. Xian Liu, who will be obtaining your penthouse.“ the woman looks to her for confirmation and she lets her continue. “And you didn’t finalize Mr. Osias’ registry for the yatch. You’ve also indicated formal access of your apartments for Woori and her husband Xian.”
“Yes, finalize it.”
Her lawyer confirms with notes while she tried her best to keep focus but the brochure staring right in her face. The next file was introduced.
“Your position in Choi Resorts and Management will automatically be given to the next in hierarchy whomever the next vice president. Is this correct?”
Yes.
“Hyeseo Choi will be receiving a sum allowance of 5% once she is released.”
Yes.
Everything was being taken care of and it appeared nothing was being in question. She clears her throat.
“I didn’t receive a ‘provisional green light,” she picks up the brochure, from DIGNITAS. “They called me after a year. The medical records made it through the screening. But… It's rejected.” She chuckles, opening it with information inside. “Weariness of life won’t exactly fly with passing colors through the Swiss doctors— or so I’ve heard. They offered counseling though-”
“Perhaps that was a sign,” the woman appeared to have known Minseo for a good amount of time. “I wasn’t worried. You wouldn’t do it here, you won’t do it any other country. In any other case, it’s good you took some responsibility.”
“Do you find it ironic?” “You wouldn’t do it.” And if I did? Her voice barely has enough to emote her tone. It sounded as if she had given up completely, yet there was still some signs she wanted to continue even if it was the way it was. “I have the option to go through suicide and yet I’m target by some, if not many, by the underground’s most dangerous people. All for what? Power? Sounds unrealistic if you ask, we’re living in a completely different reality from the rest of the world. The other side won’t exactly answer all my problems, right? It’ll be a waste of ticket.”
“Your father have always told me a Choi never backs down. It shows in you.” The woman stays in her own standing, packing everything in her briefcase as a sign that she wishes to not continue their talk. A small amount of professionalism left her for a moment and she realized that. “I hope to see you again, Miss Choi.”
She purses her lips, nods promptly at the thought. “Thank you.”
Zermatt
Her grip strengthens with the pen, throwing it across the room. A sharp breath was drawn out of her, and she quickly closes the journal. Soft cries mewl between her lips as it begins to cave in again. Tucked in the sheets with her palms over her ears, she cries herself to sleep and wished everything had just disappeared, including herself.
-
Time had skipped over to noon as the rays catch heat by her arm. Her eyes swollen from the night before and could barely open them as she looks in the mirror. Minseo hadn't been taking care of herself, her cheeks began sinking along with the sockets of her eyes with it’s dark shadow— and it appeared as though she is much older than her age now. Her skin was translucent with veins peaking from places she’s never even thought of and her body even more sickly than her already thin frame. She holds herself over the sink to rethink everything because she wants to be better. She did. It took everything in her not to abide by the stress of not being able to walk out and face the world like everyone else.
It’s town was lively. It made her feel out of place. People offered food and handcrafted items. Even though it was still the feeling of winter, spring was creeping up just around the corner with the sun warming them up just enough. The smell was like fresh laundry, almost like someone continually cleaned their sheets.
She pulls herself together in order to have a good time. Her first plan was to visit what Jinwoo used to call "Toblerone Mountain". Like from the chocolate bar they always ate. Another train ride takes her closer to the Alps and it was breathtaking (literally). It took awhile for her to adjust to brightness of the snow as everything was white. As planned, she took a picture of everything to show her friends.
"Do you want a picture?" Another tourist offers, also equipped with the chocolate bar she held. "I can help!"
"Yes, please," she smiles for the first time in that trip. "Thank you."
Then, it was back to the village where she helped herself to a feast. Not worrying a single reprimanding of gaining weight and the pressure of looking proper in front of others. She wore whatever she wanted and had no care who checked on her. Minseo enjoyed every bit of what she could before she was reminded of what she truly came there for. Though the facility had rejected her initial wish, a message was given that they wish to see her, nonetheless. She looks at her phone with no regard for the email. Minseo could only reply briefly of it.

RE: Visitation
I've decided to contract my request to meet you all in the facility and will take in consideration about my medical needs in my home country. I've decided to come face to face with my loss and being a visitor here in Switzerland had made me accept. At this time, I'd like to send my regards to the counsel …

Maybe if I didn’t eat five fucking cookies before trying to go to bed I wouldn’t be awake at 1am but here we are - or maybe this is the universe telling me to get my act together and do the homework my therapist assigned me. Having to approach my life from a completely different vantage point and being stripped of my shield in alcohol has been brutal. The word PTSD is thrown around a lot, and I am remembering a lot of things from my childhood that I had repressed for years. I think back of my childhood and I, of course, had some memory of my Mom being mean to me. I remember growing up realizing my Mom did things differently in raising me than my friends parents. I remember not understanding as an adult the relationships my friends had with their Mom’s; always being embarrassed to explain how strained things were, always being ashamed of myself. That is the box I lived in. I have spent my entire life making myself small. People pleasing. Seeking out abusive people. Thinking I did not deserve to be treated well, so when I wasn’t — I didn’t run, I embraced it. Being unable to say no or set boundaries.
My therapist told me I have lived in fear my entire life. I never looked at it like that. I had a cushy home, a loving Father, I always had meals, my Mom rarely struck me. But it is true. Even as an adult, I lived in complete terror of my mother. Thirty years old, afraid she will show up at my door. Hiding my tattoos from her. Feeling like I am less than anyone else because I was just a bar manager. Hating myself. Slicing myself open in front of men who told me to, “do it again”. It was all fear. And now I’m not afraid anymore. Anything that could have been taken from me, was taken from me. I was stripped bare in the hospital — forced to go to such extremes to remove my abusers from my life that I had to change my phone number and be a protected patient with a code to access my room. I didn’t look at it as fear. But what else could it have been? I have existed in fight or flight mode since I was young enough to understand how much my mother hated me.
My therapist wants me to come back on December 12th and tell her what my values are, because I have never had the opportunity to get to know myself. I didn’t agree with her at first, and then I realized that she’s right. I know my basic truths — my religious ideologies, things I like, people I love — but who am I, really? And she wants me to practice more techniques to quell my anxiety. Journaling has always helped (which is why I have had this blog for so long), and I’m good at “distraction” from the problem, but truly coming up with methods to soothe it without just my medications. It’s hard. I have been so manic and powerless to my anxiety for so long. Always waiting for the knock at the door. This freedom of not receiving unwanted text messages and my phone number being protected is truly priceless. Even at my very lowest, nearly dying in the hospital and on the verge of bankruptcy, god — look at me, I have this chance to get to know myself. Truly, know myself. That is a blessing. I have always prided myself on being very emotionally intuitive and aware but now that it comes to defining myself, I am at a loss.
I hope when I sit down with a sheet of paper and go to just write it down, it will come naturally. I have a feeling I will be writing page after page, then I’ll have to simplify it. I am so full of words and exploding with what I want to say, and frankly, no one wants to hear it anymore. I am sick of hearing my own voice. I know my friends are. Lord knows my family is. I always keep waiting for the shoe to drop. For the alcohol cravings to come back. For a panic attack to strike me. For some declaration that my best friend hates me, or my family just pities me, or I have only been helped so much out of guilt and not love. My therapist said I perform for other people to fit in the box I interpret that they want me in, when they all really just want to love me for me. Whoever she is.

Hello Black Bird Brewster! I'm the anon from chaotic archeologist who thinks they are autistic and am going to a dr for pain. I would like to hear any advice and thoughts you have about disclosing information to a dr about 'self diagnosed autism' and maybe how to convey my pain symptoms so I'm not brushed aside?
I grew up with weird ass parents so I've been suffering for quite a long time so I'm real good at 'masking'
Hello Anon,
Thanks for reaching out! For context, I live with multiple disabilities/chronic illnesses. My first dx on this list was about a decade ago. I am also ADHD, that was dx as a kid but I haven't actually had 'treatment' since I was like 10? A couple of years ago I realised I'm also Autistic! Self-diagnosis is extremely important and valid. Because I am a seemingly 'well-adjusted' adult there is literally NO way for me to seek medical dx for autism in my country. There's also no support or benefit to me getting a medical dx. It just isn't accessible, so that's not a thing I care about. I know I'm autistic and that's what's important.
Okay! Now for your question. Approaching any doctor or specialist to discuss chronic pain/illness is ALWAYS nerve-wracking. We unfortunately live in a world where most doctors think they are the know-all be-all of medical knowledge and as soon as you try to suggest your own findings or possible dx of what's going on, they just shut you down. Doctors are taught to 'fix' things. They are trained to deal with acute illnesses that they can slap a band-aid on and heal the patient.
When it comes to CHRONIC illnesses, they don't usually knwo what the fuck they're doing. So they tend to be dismissive because dismissing your symptoms/experiences, is easier than them simply admitting they don't have the answer: they don't know what's going on or what is causing your symptoms. The bar is so low it's on the fucking floor. All we want is to have doctors who actually LISTEN and who are open to discussion, but that isn't always the case. And I know seeking second opinions can be costly and inaccessible, depending on your situation. So what are we to do? My best advice for your appointment to discuss your pain: Be prepared!!
Start a daily journal that you can track your daily pain symptoms. Note anything that seems to make things better or worse. You can do this in a journal or use an app! I use Daylio for mood tracking and all of my symptoms. It's a great app!
Make a symptom tracked of all the things you have been experiencing. You can also do this in Daylio which is hella handy because it's fully customisable. And I can pull up my phone at appointments and immediately report 'Well after I started this medication I logged ten straight days of anxiety, so maybe we need to try something else'
Prepare a detailed medical history that you can print out and hand over as soon as you walk through the door. (This especially helps me because sometimes my autistic anxiety of talking to a new specialist makes me suddenly minimise everything in the moment. But having things pre-written helps so much!) [Here's a template I made]
Bring a support person!! Bring someone you trust, who knows everything you've been going through so they can help fill in blanks and they can take notes during the appointment. My partner takes notes for me because otherwise, I will instantly forget what the doctor said. I get so stressed about my appointments that I usually am half-dissociative during them, so having my partner there is SO helpful.
BRING SOME COMFORT ITEMS!! I do NOT go to any appointment without my favourite fidget AND a stuffed animal. Fuck what people think about it. It's the only way I can pay attention at appointments and I am unashamed to stimm in order to be functional.
The more prepared you are, the more serious doctors seem to take you. (Again, it should NOT be this hard but we're just trying to survive a medical system that does NOT want to help disabled people.)
Now, in terms of your autism:
This is entirely a personal choice. I am extremely lucky to have a GP who listens to me and is 100% supportive when I go 'Hey, I think all these symptoms could be x,y,z' I had already been seeing ehr for years when I realised I'm autistic, so when I realised it I was in the same dilemma you are in. Ultimately, I never had a sort of 'coming out' as autistic convo with her. I simply just started talking about it casually in regards to my treatment. 'Well, my autistic sensory needs would not be able to cope with that medication. Is there something else we could try?' Stuff like that. I also always have my medical bracelet on that states I'm autistic. And I'm always sporting my pronoun badges and at least one badge that clearly states I'm autistic. She has never asked about it, she just has just begun to take my autism into account as we discuss treatments. But for new doctors/specialists, I have a very clear disclaimer on my little medical document. It is highlighted at the top and it simply says: I am autistic, please be patient with me.
I will also tell doctors this up front and I try to name my needs throughout the appointment. Things like asking for them to email me a copy once they finish their full report of our appointment, or asking them to explain something further if I don't understand, or asking them for more information about treatments before I can make a decision.
I never declare 'Hey, I'm self-dx autistic and here's all the reasons why I believe this.' because that is NOT the important part. What's important is that I am able to voice what I need in terms of accessibility in regards to my autism.
If you're seeing a doctor for anything other than an actual autism assessment/treatment (like a psychdoc), then I don't see any reason why you need to over disclose things. You don't need to try and validate the fact you are autistic to a doctor who is simply trying to treat your chronic pain.
You are autistic. Full stop. You don't need to expend any extra emotional energy in order to convince other people of that fact. If you WANT to talk to your doctor about these things, then go for it. But if you're concern lies with 'what do I NEED to disclose' the answer is absolutely nothing you're uncomfortable with. I hope this helps and I really hope your appointment goes well. I hope your pain eases soon, my anon love. Please always remember that your feelings and needs are completely valid and you should never have to compromise your comfort levels for anyone. I love you. I am proud of you. I am here for you. x

safety tips for victims of abuse that’ve helped me
safety plans are essential when dealing with abuse and although not everyone has the same level of situations, i make this post to share what i did that helped me get through and hopefully help you or even give you ideas.
Tumblr media
while you are still living with your abuser(s) + preparing to leave:
get an envelope or folder that holds all of your important documents and items:
spare car keys
social security card
birth certificate
pay stubs
insurance cards
proof of pet care/ownership.
a usb with evidence of abuse, receipts of animal care (more info in respective categories below) *
look up trusted homeless shelters. write down the phone numbers and addresses. if you have a pet, there are shelters who support domestic violence victims and take pets in while you take care of yourself first. keep this paper in the envelope.
paper is important. your phone may be out of battery or when you’re far from home, you have no service/data.
note: dialing 911 is always free at pay phones
- prepare a bag for an emergency escape
keep the following items:
extra pants, shirt, undergarments for you and the children
toothbrush, toothpaste
cash (gas, food…)
chargers
medication for you and your companions
car keys, bus card
the papers with written resources we prepared beforehand.
the usb
if you have pets: water bottles, food in a carryon, collar, leash!
- keep your safety bag in an easy access place so you can grab it in a hurry. in a car, in the backyard, a friends or neighbors house, workplace, gym locker, etc. if this isn’t possible, don’t worry. getting out safely is much more important.
things to record for evidence of abuse:
photos of inflicted wounds
photos of items damaged by abuser
a journal where you wrote about your experiences
screenshots/saved text messages, voicemails, letters, voice recordings, emails of threats
if you were treated at a hospital for your injuries, keep a copy of those records.
* keep these on a usb or online drive so that it’s easily accessible for the police to have.
- tell someone you trust about what you’re going through. ask if their place is always opened to you in situations of distress. don’t be scared to ask for help especially when it comes to your safety. i was afraid to open up as well but once i did, i felt better because i was seen and felt secure. it was nonsense to feel that way. they will be really happy to help you.
- in situations where the abuser has a hot and cold, unpredictable behavior:
try to make sense of their abusive patterns and triggers. take notice of the signs so you can get yourself and others to safety.
make sure you develop coping skills that work for you, know where to be in the house, away from any stashed weapons.
avoid the kitchen, garage, backyard— any rooms where there are hard floors & table corners.
pitch in an idea to get a carpet in the main room just in case a violent situation occurs.
when you’re at home, take off any restrictive clothing & long, easy to reach jewelry so your abuser won’t use it to hurt you.
- when violence occurs,
protect yourself without fighting back. make yourself small. curl up into a ball, in a corner: put your head into your knees & arms, block your temples.
try your best to not run towards the children and animals as their next target will be them too.
create a code phase like “did you call earlier? i’m sorry i missed it.” or “i made your favorite. would you like some packed?” with a trusted neighbor if you need a hand calling for the police. try to make it look like you call them time to time in leisure so that it doesn’t seem off to your abuser(s).
- if you have left and your abuser is on your tail, dial the police and ask them to stay on call with you in case you need help.
- when escaping, try to be unpredictable; leave when your abuser least expects it
be sure to not leave any hints of where you will be going,
go to a place where they wont be likely to find you but is also a place where you feel safe and comfortable.
- if your abuser was arrested, ask if they will be held in custody + expected release date. give the police any information so they can make use of it for the release conditions. keep a copy of this information.
if you have animals:
abusers can also threaten your animal(s) to hold leverage over you & further prove that they’re in control. there’s a chance where you may have to prove ownership and care of the pet,
gather: bills and receipts (grooming, vet appointments, emergency visits) that you have paid for under your name, photos, videos of training, caregiving and place them on a USB or an online drive (google drive, email, etc) *
in this usb you can also have your resume, working permit, any other important things on your devices.
if it’s possible in your state, try to get your animals under your protection order.
read this article for more information on animal and family violence to help you out more.
if you have children:
create a code word with them so they know when to call for help. review this with them frequently in private so that they remember.
teach them how to use a phone and what number(s) to dial + what to say. for other contacts, keep a paper with the numbers in handy. again, review this procedure with them frequently.
make sure they know to keep the game/procedure between you and them!
tell them that it’s not their fault this is happening. educate them on why the behavior they receive is not right.
EXTRA TIPS
if you have a car, make sure you always have at least a half tank of gas.
consider buying safety/medical alert alarms, defense kits, portable door locks, a security door alarm wedge for when you reach your temporary safe place or live alone.
find out ways you can pull out of the driveway easily, make sure you aren’t blocked by any chance.
make use of the speed dial options on your phone.
make it a habit to delete your browsing history of anything that will rise suspicions
if you find this post helpful, review this post frequently so you can remember the information and be well prepared and bookmark/print this post and store it under a false name or the envelope.
open up a bank account in your own name to increase independency.
things to remember:
you are not obligated to stay with anyone / in any situation where you are emotionally/physically abused no matter how long you’ve known them and the bond you used to have.
no one deserves to be abused. nothing is ever your fault. you’re seen. you are so much more than how you are treated. i love you. you. are. loved.
don’t condition or down play your trauma and experiences. don’t compare yourself to others. no one’s situation is “worse” than another’s — all and any forms of traumatic experiences are equally important and deserve undivided, careful attention.
listen to your gut. if you feel the sudden, most important urge not to enter a room, say the next thought, or that you should leave, do it. don’t hesitate. you can figure out the reason later.

The flu might have killed her, but strong hands stopping her breath were not far behind. She hadn’t been running from the flu. She’d been running to the flu. The striations on her neck had blended with the blue gray of her skin and, in the end, were barely visible. Amelia’s coat had been left in the sick room, folded, and put on a shelf. Marika covered her hand with a cloth and reached into the pockets to see if the woman had carried a clue to her identity, to her family in Philadelphia. Most travelers did. A piece of paper crinkled under Marika’s fingers. She pulled it out and unfolded it. The scribbled lead of the pencil had faded and fallen into the folds. Still, it was readable: J.K., Butte, Montana. Marika wrapped the paper in the cloth and put them both on top of the filing cabinet. Thinking of the nursing instructions command: wash your hands with soap and water every time you think the word “pee,” she rushed to the washroom to do just that.
