Some snapshots from the Camino Trail.
What I remember most:
-grey skies, endless rain, wet gear and having to navigate through knee-deep, ice-cold flooded sections of the trail
-experiencing a country slooowly from the idyllic countryside scattered with vineyards and olive groves to the muddy, industrial parts and one charming village after another, each with their own stunning cathedral and often a world heritage site. There were villages that had been abandoned entirely, miles of the trail that passed through thick and pungent Eucalyptus forests, long and dark sections on the shoulder of a highway with cars zooming past and hundreds of quiet kilometres next to the coast
-ubiquitous orange trees serving as (illicit?) snacks and a reprieve from our aching feet
-countless slow espressos in a place where we couldn’t seem to translate “to go”
-the awe-inspiring feeling of walking on Roman roads and bridges from the 1st century and the less awe-inspiring realization that while cobblestones are pretty, they are not fun to walk on after 20 km
-the kindness of Portuguese people shouting the directions to us from their balcony with a friendly smile and “bom camino!” 🙂
“As I make my slow pilgrimage through the world a certain sense of beautiful mystery seems to gather and grow.” -A.C. Benson

I turned 25 and now I can keep plants alive and I take care of myself just like I take care of my plants!! 🪴
I love getting older because I just keep becoming more myself. It’s less about pleasing others and more about choosing myself. It’s more compassion for others and for myself. It’s knowing that if I go to sleep at night knowing that I tried my best that day then that’s enough and knowing that we’re ALL just doing our best at this life thing. Trying to trust and honour that others are doing their best too even when you feel like they’ve wronged you (And trusting that when they know better they’ll do better). It’s setting boundaries and choosing where I spend my time and energy and trying to stay present through the bitter and the sweet moments.
Your direction is more important than your speed…

Feeling so much like myself lately.
Studying the same things in school that I read about in my free time, taking my yoga teacher training, eating what I want without thinking about calories, watching the sun rise, meditating every morning and learning how to sit with that discomfort without running away, turning away or numbing. Just BEING.
We can practice learning what our intuition is by running towards anything that feels like half a minute of being alive

The scary and incredible thing about life is that we have no guarantee that any of it will work out but we still keep trying so so hard. We are building lives with people that could leave at any moment and loving our friends without any kind of contract. We just put our love into the world and hope that it will be returned. Actually we have a guarantee that it won’t work out. There will be pain and loss and suffering. And yet we go on. We keep finding joy in the sunrise and we show up to work each day to do our small part in holding society together. We have enough money to spend 9$ on an iced tea and in our free time run in circles around the park in the hopes that it will be faster than last week. We put on our rain jackets and drive to the big, big sea and stare out in awe and delight. We study things just because we like to learn and we take photos of silly, unimportant moments just to remember. We smile at strangers and write out goals in our journals. Despite the daily hardships and disappoints and promise of future suffering, we remain hopeful and grateful and that feels like a miracle.

Nothing like a run through a graveyard to remind you to stop taking things so seriously, to remember that life’s about the looking not the finding, to be happy right here right now, to love life all the way.
This too shall LAST

Thanksgiving weekend with my love 🍁🦃❤️
I ate blackberry cheesecake and ginger flavoured dark chocolate and buttery croissants and a veggie burger dripping with sauce and fresh olive bread and chocolate hazelnut butter on sesame seeds bagels. Without a second thought. Without regret or guilt or sadness or fear. Food is pleasure. Food fuels my adventures. Healing is possible.
