Some snapshots from the Camino Trail.
What I remember most:
-grey skies, endless rain, wet gear and having to navigate through knee-deep, ice-cold flooded sections of the trail
-experiencing a country slooowly from the idyllic countryside scattered with vineyards and olive groves to the muddy, industrial parts and one charming village after another, each with their own stunning cathedral and often a world heritage site. There were villages that had been abandoned entirely, miles of the trail that passed through thick and pungent Eucalyptus forests, long and dark sections on the shoulder of a highway with cars zooming past and hundreds of quiet kilometres next to the coast
-ubiquitous orange trees serving as (illicit?) snacks and a reprieve from our aching feet
-countless slow espressos in a place where we couldn’t seem to translate “to go”
-the awe-inspiring feeling of walking on Roman roads and bridges from the 1st century and the less awe-inspiring realization that while cobblestones are pretty, they are not fun to walk on after 20 km
-the kindness of Portuguese people shouting the directions to us from their balcony with a friendly smile and “bom camino!” 🙂
“As I make my slow pilgrimage through the world a certain sense of beautiful mystery seems to gather and grow.” -A.C. Benson

I turned 25 and now I can keep plants alive and I take care of myself just like I take care of my plants!! 🪴
I love getting older because I just keep becoming more myself. It’s less about pleasing others and more about choosing myself. It’s more compassion for others and for myself. It’s knowing that if I go to sleep at night knowing that I tried my best that day then that’s enough and knowing that we’re ALL just doing our best at this life thing. Trying to trust and honour that others are doing their best too even when you feel like they’ve wronged you (And trusting that when they know better they’ll do better). It’s setting boundaries and choosing where I spend my time and energy and trying to stay present through the bitter and the sweet moments.
Your direction is more important than your speed…

Nothing like a run through a graveyard to remind you to stop taking things so seriously, to remember that life’s about the looking not the finding, to be happy right here right now, to love life all the way.
This too shall LAST
