Helllo! I am always truly amazed by your art and it never fails to put me in a trance with all the extra things in the backgrounds of them too! I do wonder how you went about studying anatomy and such, it always is such a tedious task for me to focus on and learn about each muscle if I want to draw some beautifully handsome military men, you know?!
ahh thank so much! I try to add some special stuff to each piece, so I'm glad it's appreciated 🥰
as for anatomy, I haven't done that much *actual* study (don't ask me where the latissimus dorsi is 😔) I'm more of a visual learner. This can be achieved through figure drawing exercises, or just learning how to *perceive* (by this I mean--what is it you're actually seeing as opposed to what you expect to see?) Understanding proportions and weight and pose are all very important, and these come more from analyzing real-life people as opposed to a medical diagrams.
I think getting a good idea of where various muscles are is a good start, but I often find that when drawing a figure 'less is best'
an example here:
Tumblr media
Sometimes, *too much* anatomical detail makes a drawing look exaggerated and more like someone's peeled his skin off, lol
I lean towards a more subtle approach to musculature, choosing which areas to highlight and which to let fade into the rest of the form.
Biggest piece of advice--use references! ALWAYS! I don't care if I've been drawing for years, I almost always have a reference on hand that I constantly refer back to. It's necessary if you want to draw something realistic, or else you might just start inventing new body parts 😭
And if all else fails--just throw some hair all over it to hide the mistakes 💅

Infinight Interns Reference Sheet + Headcanons
Tumblr media
Bartholomew Finn
Tumblr media
-Vest of Slow Descent-i made it green based off his canon design and then gave it "feathered" hems to allude to its ability
-pre-Draconic Transformation Bart-gave him silver jewelry and the only draconic traits are gold freckles, fangs, and shorter horns
-post-Draconic Transformation Bart-gold jewelry to match with his dad (Simsun), and of course claws and scales and larger horns
-boatswain's call whistle-a reference to the Jebediah + Capt. Marge
-gave him the thigh dagger sheath-cause why not. I think Bart's that character in movies that has a shit ton of knives hidden in the most improbable places
-he's got a 17 string lute, but lets be honest i aint drawing 17 strings. painted a wave design on the body and the soundhole/rosette has a dagger design
-Breath Diagem/lute pick ftw
-scars on his hands (from doing hot boi sailor shit)
-not shown but i think he's got a bunch of tattoos (like "I <3 Mom" for Marge, flowers for Gum Gum, crossed anchors, etc.)
-pupils are slitted like dragons and a very dark shade of blue
Kyborg the Mighty/Kydelius of Everwinter
Tumblr media
-Fun Fact: i used to do archery! so some of his gear is based off of stuff I had. But you know cooler
-Canonically his hair pretty loose, and its pretty but my god its gonna get caught up in his bowstring man. braided/tied it back for practicality
-thigh highs. no notes
-gave him an armored version w/ fur because his current design didn't feel like Everwinter-y enough
-its not terribly visible but he has the Belt of Sick Trick so i put a bird on it (vaguely Tony Hawk reference)
-the Longer Bow Krystallina-gave it a snow fall design + red accents
-scars from archery, since this guy shoots barebow
-the left (flesh arm) side is the most armored and unscarred, and the right (metal arm) side is scarred + unprotected (bc u know its metal)
-pupils are really dark shade of red as a reference to the Source Diagem
-metal arm-i took an anatomy class not a robotics one, so the structure is based off human musculature (kinda) and i put the Source Diagem in his shoulder instead of his hand
Gum Gum Galindor
Tumblr media
-star boi 🌟
-constellations on the inside of the brim of his hat that Bart sewed for him-(Bart's a sailor, he knows his constellations)
-the flowers (orange @ blue) on his hat represent him & Bart. The orange ones bigger bc u know thats his big bro right there
-the hoodie+pauldron+cross body strap combo is a direct copy of Bart's design bc thats what younger siblings do u know
-made the patches to repair his coat stars bc why not
-Random Axe of Kindness-the cute lil heart does not detract from the fact that its an axe
-timeskip design i went for a gardener vibe bc he works in the Orchidnage now-i think despite having the worst dad of the group, Gum Gum would be a pretty good father figure
-Staff of Flowers-i wanted to reference Dia w/ this one so I tried to have this be the most colorful part
-Bart pierced his ears at one point
-i gave him constellation freckles that showed up post Dia reveal
-he has his manacles yeah but i wanted to design friendship bracelets for the rest of the team
-Mudd's-green thread with pink & white flower beads-the charm is Gumbo
-Bart's-leather cord with blue & gold beads and an anchor charm
-Kyborg's-brown leather cord, green beads, and a red arrow charm
-made his pupils a lighter shade of blue that glows when he uses Wild Magic
-edit: lots of scars, some from fighting, a lit from just tripping and shit. Also a dog bite from that one time
Mudd Bramblecrack
Tumblr media
-i love him but it was so hard to come up with a design
-the pink streak keeps moving bc im inconsistent and also bc he has to redye/cut his hair constantly
-the "fur" cloak is the Cloak of the Secluded Garden, and its actually pine leaves & grass
-gave him a very simple tunic w/ a bramble design bc we would try to disguise his noble bg
-i put Mudd in a kilt bc i have free will and also he's Scottish. I dont think he would ever wear one unless for formal occasions tho bc i think they take a while to put on
-Gumbo :) + badger armor -this ones very specifically inspired by Lonna Bowstripe from the Redwall series
-originally had the purple gems on his tunic, made em earrings instead bc thats cooler
-Bramblecrack signet (?) ring-also the Virtues Diagem. Both this and his earring are purple bc its an ace reference (for me). The ring is definitely an ace reference bc i made it a black metal and put it on his right middle finger (ifykyk)
-pink paw pads + talons-less of a firbolg thing, more of a Moon Druid thing
-eyes are a rlly dark shade of green but glow a brighter shade when Wildshaping
-pupils are a rlly dark shade of purple (Diagem ref) and also horizontal like cows
Okay I think that's everything. If not ill just come back and edit it 🤷. working on the OG Infinights next so stay tuned or whatever

All the Good Luck in the World
Commissioned by: @valagon37
Tumblr media
I don’t know how. I do not understand why. I have a lot of questions that remain unanswered. As they stay that way, I attribute them to luck. I must have used all the good luck in the world so I could achieve what I am experiencing right now. And that is becoming one hell of a good-looking Asian hunk. Not just any Asian hunk, but the one and only Lee-Seok Jun. I still have a lot of questions, but at least I can answer the questions of where did it start?
In this day and age, many stories start on the Internet, just like this one. It was a usual evening in my room, surfing across Discord for a nice place to find a conversation that would entertain me. On one such server, I found this guy who referred to himself as ‘June’. He says he’s from Korea, and he would like to practice his English writing skills with an American. The server is pretty much dead so nobody paid any attention to his message. Seeing that as good entertainment, and a way to quench my curiosity about how different Koreans live when compared to me, I dove right in and said ‘hello’.
We hit it off from there. June’s English was horrendous at first, but he improved with each passing day. He loved it when I told him stories about my life over here. He’s even gushing over the mundane things I usually take for granted. For instance, I can eat whatever I want due to my well-paying job. I can take myself outside for steak by dinner and have a tub of ice cream for a late-night snack. He said his job restricts him from such freedom. When I asked him what his job was, he did not say.
As the days went on, I began noticing strange things about myself. I’m changing gradually. First, the problems started with my speech. While I’m proud that June is improving his English, I began to notice the worsening of mine. I was slurring, and I found it hard to pronounce several words that I didn’t have problems with before. I now spend longer amounts of time before I can reply to a proper message to June. But that’s not the only strange thing. I was eating in a Korean diner the other day, and I swear, I understood what the cook was saying to his idiotic son. He was scolding him for the wrong preparation of the kimchi.
After the changes to my speech, the change soon took a turn for my appearance. My hair turned black, and my skin is becoming paler than usual. My muscles feel sore. Not the kind of sore that I usually feel after a long day of using the computer. It’s the kind of sore I feel whenever I lift heavy objects or that time I tried to exercise. And from the sores in my stomach, I was initially distraught when I saw these six dense bumps. Slowly, it dawned on me that those were abs. Real fucking abs! It’s impossible. The closest thing I did to exercise was walk to my work. From there, thick and brimming trained musculature popped everywhere in my body. I visited a doctor to see if anything was wrong with me. They did some tests, and it all came out as normal. What struck me though, is that the nurse marked me as Asian for my race, rather than a Caucasian. It’s strange because nobody in my life mistook me for another race.
Tumblr media
Then one day, I popped into the mirror and saw a reflection that wasn’t me. I- It’s someone else! Instead of panicking now that my original identity is gone, there is joy inside me. It was a sly smirk at first, that soon formed into a full grin. Why the hell should I be complaining when I have this magnificent body? I should call myself lucky for having this set of muscles and a handsome mug. However, one question hangs in my mind. Why the hell did this happen? If there’s anyone that knows, it’s June. The change started when I first talked to him, so he must know something about this. And besides, he’s the only Korean that I know of.
I contacted him in Discord. Instead of the usual text reply, he invited me to a video call. It’s the first time he did that. When I entered the video chat, instead of a Korean on the other end, it was a Caucasian guy. And not just any Caucasian. It’s me! The original me! He has a smile on his face, the very same smile I had earlier. He’s sweating and naked and has probably explored my body already.
“Ju- June? That you?”
“Of course, it’s me. I know you’re angry. But please, understand. This is the only way to escape my life here in Korea.”
“Angry? Dude, I am happy!” I wanted to say something more expressive than happy, but the English was lost to me. It took me a few more seconds when I remembered the word ‘elated’. “Also, what is your meaning when you say you want to escape?”
“You see, I’m a famous model slash actor here in Korea. I doubt you’ve heard the stories about how agencies handle people like me. They control our schedule, our diet, everything! I am sick and tired of it. The only reason why I got to talk to you is that I bought a burner phone. I can video call you now since I’ve escaped temporarily now that I’m you.”
“I mean. All is okay now, right?”
“I wish I could say that,” June frowned. “Sorry.”
June ended the video call, and he does not answer any further calls I send to him. If he does not want to be bothered, that leaves me with more time to explore his body which he threw easily away. I stepped back to the mirror and admired my statuesque body worthy of salivation.
Tumblr media
Good fucking heavens! My biceps are gigantic. They’re hard when I flex them, and firm whenever I stretch my arm out. I could lift several objects that I was struggling with before. And my pectorals. Good lord. They’re like women’s breasts given how large they are. I can practically grab them with my entire hand and squeeze them. Then there comes my face. I’m so cute and fair, which serves as a nice contrast to my ripped body. I can’t fathom why I didn’t realize how much my body had changed in a couple of days. I guess it was so gradual that I didn’t notice.
Tumblr media
As I walked about, I noticed something shifting in my groin. Unlike the rest, it hasn’t changed since this morning. But to my surprise when I pulled down my underwear, a raging beast of massive proportions popped out. I guess the stereotypes were wrong, after all. I plopped on my bed where I began ruminating on my angle of attack regarding the monster that is my groin. I grabbed the shaft and felt thunderous echoes ebb on my body. Not only was my dick large, but it was also sensitive. I guess June hasn’t used this package much with such stingy managers in his agency. I pulled my shaft, and my cute pink head slipped out. I could see the precum foaming at the tip, which washed down when I pulled the skin upward.
Slowly and firmly, I jerked my dick. Moans bubbled from my lips as my mind was lost to the pleasure. How could June just throw this body like it was nothing!? He’s lucky to have this, and now I’m lucky to have it. The stars of the Universe must have aligned so that I could become Lee-Seok Jun. Wait… How did I know June’s real name?
I sped up the movements of my hand. One hand now searches clumsily for my asshole. I found it seconds later, and I prodded inside for the prostate. Gah! Fuck! Fuck! Fuck! I know this body is sensitive, but I didn’t realize that it could get a lot more than that. I screamed when I found that sweet spot inside my ass and my hips jerked toward the ceiling. My balls squirmed and tightened. It’s like an explosion. There’s that momentary silence in the implosion, before the destructive aftermath of flying debris and supersonic waves. That explosion happened in both my mind and my dick. Thick hot cum spurred from the shaft and into the world beyond. Many lobules splattered on my chest, but some had found their way to the floor.
“AHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!” I half-moaned and half-screamed. My heart is in a stampede, and my head was wrecked with a flood of unimaginable pleasures. My body is alive and breathing. Sweat patterned all over my skin, and they moved with every heave of my humongous chest. I blink one moment to see that I am in the bed in my room. I blink in another and I find myself in a familiar yet strange location. I’m in my room, back in Korea.
Wait, I don’t have a room in Korea? Wha- I- I don’t understand. When the pleasures subsided, the answers to my prior questions finally returned to my head. After seeing his life wasted in Korean show business, Lee-Seok Jun turned to mysticism for a solution. He found a body swap spell, and he found me as the prime fool who fell for his trap. At least, that’s what he saw. This is not a trap in my eyes. It’s a lucky blessing! Cumming when our bodies are swapped sealed the deal permanently. I don’t mind the strict schedule and diet if I was to stay in this body.
Tumblr media
The door to my new bedroom opened. It’s my friend and manager, Ji-woo.
“Where the hell have you been these past few hours!?” Ji-woo said in perfect Korean. I tried to hide my still-dripping dick with my sheets. Ji-woo just stared at me and laughed. “Finally, you’re enjoying that body of yours. People would kill themselves just to be like you. So, dress up. You have an underwear photoshoot in an hour.”
“예 (Yes),” I said back.

Sweat & Dryer Sheets
Miguel O'Hara x FTM!Reader | WC: 1.4k cw: 18+ mdni, oral r receiving, bottom growth referred to as cock Summary: You and Miguel live together but it's been so long since you've been able to be together.
𖦆𖦆𖦆𖦆𖦆𖦆𖦆𖦆 ࣪ ҉ ⋅⠀✧⠀⋅ ҉ ࣪ 𖦆𖦆𖦆𖦆𖦆𖦆𖦆𖦆
It had been a long day, your body heavy as you open the door to your apartment. The smell of freshly washed laundry hitting your nose.
"Miguel, I'm home," you announce as you enter the living room. That's when you see him; folding clothes and making neat piles on the couch.
He looks up as you enter the room unfurling his brows, face softening.
"Welcome home sweetheart," He stretches out an arm pulling you in as he kisses the crown of your head. You relax into his side, "You smell good."
"How so?" Miguel asks, interest piqued.
"Hmm, you smell like dryer sheets... and a little sweaty." You look up, meeting his eyes. A laugh escapes his throat as his chest rumbles.
"You think that smells good?" Miguel raises a brow fighting back another laugh.
"What? It's nice, smells like home." You reach your hand out, pressing it against his chest, busying yourself with straightening out his shirt.
"Plus, I like it when you get all sweaty." Another laugh cracks through Miguel.
"Oh really?" he says with a goofy grin. He takes hold of your wrist, gently bringing your hand up to his mouth, brushing his lips over your knuckles, giving each a kiss.
His eyes are unwavering as he presses your palm against his lips, teeth grazing the sensitive skin. You instinctively pull your hand back, but it doesn't budge. Your eyes widen, and you feel the room heat up. Miguel holds your wrist, firmly pushing his tongue into your palm. Kneading your flesh, sending shivers down your spine. A groan escapes you as he begins to part your fingers. You duck your head breaking from his gaze, face beet red. He looked hungry.
"Please, I want to see that handsome face-" Miguel says between breaths. Suddenly you feel a hand press into the small of your back; before you know it, you're flush against him, forced to look up your breath hitches as you see it. Spit coats the edges of his lips as he makes obscene work of your hand.
"Miguel, please..." you whisper heat pooling at the base of your stomach.
"Use your words, sweetheart." he says, lips leaving your hand.
"The... ah laundry- I can help you with it." This sends him into a laughing fit.
He always managed to get you worked up so easily, none of this was new, but it had been so long since the last time.
"The laundry can wait. I'd like to focus on you." He smiles. That's when you feel a hand snake from your back to right in between your legs, cupping your groin. You grab his shoulders for support as your legs buckle slightly.
"Fuck-" you gasp as he traces your hood. You'd been so busy recently, coming home late and exhausted. It had been so long since you and Miguel's schedules lined up. Even then, at any moment, he could be called out to fight the villain of the week. You didn't realize how sensitive you had become to his touch. How much you wanted, no needed this.
You slide a hand down his chest and slip it underneath his shirt. Exploring his musculature until you reach his nipple pressing your thumb against it. Miguel swallows back a groan as you massage his chest. In what feels like an act of retaliation; he slips his hand into your pants. He takes your cock, giving it a tug. In an instant you push your hips forward, giving him better access, wanting more.
You begin to pull at his shirt frustrated that you're both still clothed and he's got you this desperate.
"Clothes off - please." You huff. He leans down and plants a kiss on your lips.
"Soon beautiful..." he trails off, your eyes meeting his. It's the first time you notice how red he'd gotten, eyes half-lidded, canines protruding.
He slowly gets down onto his knees, grabbing the backs of your thighs. You stiffen in anticipation, muscles jerking with each kiss he leaves up your thighs. Ghosting his lips over your clothed cock, his hot breath making you impatient for contact.
You thread your fingers through his hair bracing yourself. He presses his tongue flat against the fabric of your pants. You lean into his touch the layers of clothing making it hard for you to feel him. You tug on his hair desperately, wanting more.
"Please... Miggy" you manage through staggered breath. This time there's no response, he simply pushes his face closer, you now feel his nose press into you as he prods your crotch with licks. He becomes more desperate as time goes on. His heavy breathing a sign of how badly he's been wanting this to. He leaves your groin, cool breath sending shivers up your spine as it hits your now-soaked crotch.
You needed him now, needed to feel his lips wrap around you. You begin to undo your pants, muscles tensing with need. Miguel stills your hands, grabbing your pants by the belt loops and yanking them down with a single tug, a shallow breath leaves you. You weren't the only one who felt desperate.
His hands return, hooking around your legs, his lips swollen as they latch onto your inner thigh. It feels as though he's wound you up, and the smallest of touches could have you come undone.
"Mhm, ah-h" you sputter as Miguel kisses your thighs, stopping at your core, lips ghosting there. He raises a hand slowly pulling back your hood, hips bucking up into his touch. Grabbing onto his hair you brace yourself as he presses his lips against your head. The overstimulation makes every movement electric causing you to hiss through your teeth.
He takes all of you into his mouth, letting out a groan as he feels the weight of you on his tongue. Hollowing out his cheeks he sucks you in, stopping only to lick at your base collecting the mess he's made of you onto his tongue. Each of his groans sends sweet vibrations through your core, pushing you closer and closer to your release.
"Hah- you're doing so good, Miguel... so good-" you barely manage to stagger out your praise. He doesn't show it well but Miguel was a sucker for praise. Vulnerability looked beautiful on him. You cherished the time you spent together where guarded walls crumbled.
Your train of thought broken as you feel his lips leave you. He's panting, you're slick covering his face. You can tell he's close, the realization sends your heart pounding. The thought of Miguel getting there just by getting you off. You let out a groan, locking eyes.
"Please Miggy I'm so close," You throw your head back. In a heartbeat, he's back at your core, savoring your taste on his tongue, massaging your cock.
He takes both his hands, spreading you open, your legs bowing. His nose pressed against your cock as he hungrily laps at your sensitive nerves. You feel the pleasure concentrate in your core, building with each stroke of his tongue.
"Yes there, right there!" you keen. All at once you feel the wave that's been building crash over you. Every one of your muscles, tenses as you grip Miguel's hair for dear life. He's holding your legs, ensuring you don't stumble as you ride out your orgasm.
Once you've stilled, panting, you look down at him. As you brush your fingers through his hair, you can't fight off the goofy smile on your face.
"What was all that for?" you chuckle. He leans into your touch.
"I don't know... it's been a while, I missed you." He says loud enough just for the two of you to hear.
You help Miguel as he slowly begins to rise. Taking his face into your hands, you wipe yourself off the edges of his lips.
"I missed you too." You say giving him a peck on the cheek. Miguel buries himself into the crook of your neck.
"Mhhhm," he breathes out, a smile on his lips.
"You smell good."

I was trying to study buff anatomy, I was using pinterest, but then it started showing up some baka drawings and weird photoshopped photos and it makes me really uncomfortable. Do you know any site I could use to study that has at least an option to show only safe for work images?
Anon, I think I understand what you're asking but I just need to confirm one thing...
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
....bara?
Did you possibly mean bara drawings???
If you did indeed mean that you don't want to potentially be flipping through mildly sexual bara images and bad photoshop jobs wherein dudes give themselves too many abs to compensate for a lack of personality, then perhaps I might be able to help!
Keep in mind that if you want to study musculature and anatomy, you may need to put up with nudity no matter what. And no matter what way you spin it, many nude anatomy studies may be classified as 'nsfw' because unless you work in an art studio...... yes, it WILL be not safe for work, even if it's not sexual.
My first piece of advice - stop using Pinterest.
It's a good tool for collecting images, yes, but it will not be an adequate teacher for this sort of thing. It may also give you references which are not entirely realistic. Of course, un-realistic art and exaggeration in art are fine! But as a baseline to learn from, it isn't good.
Second - if you're looking for poses to reference for art, check out AdorkaStock, a long-time, famous photo-reference account that has thousands of human references for free!
Third... If you're looking specifically for BUFF references, it's going to be better to look for actors or famous people who you KNOW are well-muscled instead of searching for a random 'big buff guy' online.
For example, think of an actor you consider 'buff'. Search via google for candid photos of him - with safe search on. Chances are, you can get some references which are not uncomfortable for you.
Look, here's one of Jason Momoa!
Tumblr media
For a beginner artist, this may be enough! You don't have to draw every single muscle bulging to give the idea to your viewers that a person is ripped. The proportions of his shoulders, the wideness of his arms, etc, is already enough, and it will go a LONG way to visually suggesting muscles than a rob liefield lookalike.
For anything more than that, you'll need to get comfortable with seeing people naked, or almost-naked, and simply seek out photos of athletes with the type of body you want to draw! Swimmers, triathletes, football players and rock climbers are all 'buff' but in different ways. Looking through photos of these athletes may give you a better idea of the variety that's out there.
And for any other anatomy lessons, I do recommend YouTube because there are many art teachers who offer their advice for free. For example this guy, who explains anatomical bone and muscle groups to help your illustration!

Behind the canvas: Painting 'Finally getting that drink'
Tumblr media
This is a post about some of my thoughts while painting Rugan's pin-up for this month. Some technical ideas, rambling and mild nudity below the cut.
Inspo and references
The pin-ups of Gil Elvgren are on the left, and 'Elspeth Resplendent' by Anna Steinbauer is on the right.
Tumblr media
Elvgren is one of my favourite artists and I spent some time looking through a book of his collected work to see what ideas I could take for this pin-up project. The things that jumped out at me were:
The women felt like 'subjects' rather than 'objects'. There's some implication of hobbies, an inner life. They're often in the middle of doing something when they're captured on the canvas.
The subjects know they're being looked at, and they are taking it as an opportunity to flirt (signalled through eye contact, coquettish facial expressions and body language). It feels like a conversation between viewer and viewed.
Parts of the body may be exposed, but the eye is drawn back and forth between the subject's face and more titillating parts of the image.
I knew that I wanted to show Rugan in a similar setup, then; in this case, he's halfway through dinner and then catches sight of the viewer. His eye contact and smirk are flirtatious and mirror what you see of him in Act 1.
I initially wanted the pose to mirror Elspeth's in this beautiful Magic the Gathering planeswalker art by Anna Steinbauer, whose work I am obsessed with. Since I started taking art seriously, it's been my goal to paint for MtG, so I often try to study from artists whose illustrations I admire.
However, I didn't want to copy her pose or the composition of the piece. Don't get me wrong, I'm not above doing this - but I felt it just didn't work with the subject. The horizon line (shown in red) is very low. This is a gnome-level view of Elspeth. And I didn't want to place the viewer at the eye level of Rugan's penis.
Tumblr media
I kept the composition similar in some other aspects though - there's still a T shape (pale green) that draws the eye to the focal point (pink). I did some sketches where Rugan is leaning forwards/sideways in the same way as Elspeth is, but I feel that this final leaning-back pose demonstrates more dominant body language and allows me to paint the musculature of his torso in more detail. This acts almost as a 'ladder' that draws the viewer's eye up and down between the two focal points of the nude variant.
Tumblr media
Painting
I've already said quite a lot on a post that was supposed to be short, so I'll keep it brief here and write more about the painting of Gortash and Raphael (February and March respectively).
It's been quite a while since I've tackled such a detailed painting, so I had to do some research/studies to remind myself of some helpful rendering rules:
Veins beneath pale skin might look blue, but they're actually just a desaturated version of the same colour. There are other parts of this image where the veins are particularly lovely. I'll leave that to your imagination.
Tumblr media
2. Highlights on leather are not as saturated as you'd expect until you get to the most reflective part of the material. Also, a good texture brush can work wonders.
Tumblr media
3. I try to use as few layers as possible when painting, but I remembered the importance of putting design detail on a separate Multiply layer. Multiply allows the layer to modify/darken the layers below, so you can more easily add detail that follows the shape of the object. For example, the body hair or the snake's head going over the chest. If I were painting traditionally, I'd have had to put in a lot more effort. With Multiply layers, it's one colour. Nice! I got a great tip from @dustdeepsea about the blue-ish tint that tattoos, particularly older ones, can get. I felt like this massive tat is not something that Rugan has had done recently, so I added a Gaussian blur as well.
Tumblr media
Well, if you got this far, thanks for reading! This is a great way for me to reflect and record what I've learned from the painting. I want to paint sexy stuff, but I also want to keep improving as an artist!
Keep an eye out for updates on my next pin-up, who will be Lord Enver Gortash. Time to practice using my hair/fur brushes 🥵🥵

hi i just wanted to say im genuinely obsessed with the way you draw thighs + hips + butts + the crotch region in general. thank you for your service and if you have any suggestions or resources id adore them
hi, thank you! i have a lot of fun drawing those bits so i'm glad the fun comes through :)
i can def take a crack at some notes on how i construct stuff, but especially with this general pelvis area i think a lot of how i draw it is very much individual stylization -- so what i'll go over is definitely not any kind of anatomy tutorial or step-by-step or anything like that, and i also wouldn't even really call these notes suggestions on how to draw this stuff. my real suggestion is what it always is, which is to get into anatomy studies/figure drawing first, then decide how you want to stylize starting from that foundational info! also, while i don't usually lean into this a lot in my own style, the musculature of the thighs is a lot more complex than you might expect, so it can be useful to look at more detailed anatomical diagrams in addition to just studying from models. but i hope seeing how i often do it myself is still helpful in some way!
so, for starters, and i mean this totally seriously: a lot of what i get complimented on in my art is stuff i specifically draw with horny intent, lmao. i'm not at all saying you have to be horny to get good but i think you get results from fun + fixation, because when you care a lot about the details and when you care about capturing specific stuff that you're excited about (in any way), that comes through in your drawings. so when ur deciding on how to stylize, pay attention to what little details about ur area of focus are really cute/interesting/appealing to you, and find ways to emphasize that!
Tumblr media
honestly part of that means focus on posing as well as whatever you're doing with anatomy/stylization -- i have a thing i affectionately call the "ira neck thrust" that my friends are constantly calling me out for and it's basically just the tits and ass back arch that i'm so fond of. of course u end up noticing how i draw this area when i'm constantly drawing attention to it and making things cheesecake-y specifically to show it off, lol!
beyond that i think the summary of the rest of the notes is just to find ways to lay things out so that it's easy for you to place the shapes and details you want to stylize/emphasize. i like drawing thighs with pronounced upper muscle; i often stylize the lower half of the torso + hips with multiple repeating curves to emphasize that shape. i love hip creases and visual cues on how the thighs are moving, so i usually don't miss an opportunity to draw those in (and to pose/costume in a way that specifically shows it off, again). my anatomy in this area is usually so stylized and unrealistic that, while of course i make a lot of these decisions from a foundation of figure drawing, a ton of the actual impact/final look is just coming from style choices!
(i also only have time to throw together one example, but these things should still generally ring true for bodies of any type/size; "bony" landmarks exist regardless of weight and will show up on larger bodies as areas where tendons + muscle anchor to the bone, which can have a lot of influence on folds + the shapes of body fat, and it's always a good idea to study reference and decide from there how to stylize. "morpho: fat and skin folds" is a great anatomy book for this.)
i feel like this is all i have energy 2 throw together at the moment and it's so specific to how i draw that i'm not sure how helpful it'll be lol but!! maybe i will come back to this another day if i think of anything else. also i guess here is one final summary of why i think this method works for me

hello! I have a question: I find that a lot of your art really speaks to me artistically, wether that be with composition, lighting, outfit choice, musculature, etc. and I was wondering if you would be ok with people using your pictures/gifs as references for drawing? Would you be ok with them being used as references for fanart, would you want it to exclusively be studies/non fandom stuff, or would you prefer that we don’t use your pieces for drawing in general? Also, if you are fine with your art being used as references, what is your preferred form of credit (link to Tumblr, insta, linktree?)
thank you, and may your new year be filled with joy and comfort
Generally I find that I have no issue with the type of thing that people who take the effort to ask me about what they want to use it for and that it's usually the people who don't care, just want to steal my content and just post it on their own blog unedited and uncredited that I do have an issue with!
As a guide though I'm pretty OK with most things that aren't for profit, where someone has put in just as much, or more work into their own image as mine, and the message is broadly similar, as long as credit is given (linking back to here).
For example, my message with regard to lingerie is that it is to showcase how it can look great on all forms - so if it was used as inspiration to illustrate something that was supposed to show how humiliating it was, that's not really something I'd be OK with.
If my picture is just inspiration for a small part of a larger piece of artwork, it's nice to be credited as an inspiration though, although I don't really expect people to need my permission to do that.
I try to take it as a compliment for most of the creativity that my work has inspired, even when it's in fields that I'm not that personally interested in like fanfic. Funny story - I've been used in lots of fanfic, and once was the actual body double for the *other* character in a fan fic story than the one that the writer had used me as inspiration for.
Anyway, I hope that answers things - if in doubt just ask, but I'm probably going to be fine with it, especially just for drawing references

ok but you can't show off those killer clothing folds without telling us how you do them /silly /nf
-@rule-masochism
practice and observation, my friend. ;) it's taken me a while to learn how different fabrics and textures fold, and not just that, but how to translate that to my specific art style.
like here's how i was drawing clothing folds back in 2021:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
i understood things like point of tension (the point on the fabric where the folds will crease the most and lead back to), and i kind of understood how fabric bunches together, but it doesn't quite feel like fabric to me. the curved line going down Logan's calve on the front of his pants makes that area look tighter where it should. Dirk's sleeve lines don't account for the shoulders, and his right cuff is just ugly. also way too many folds on his left side of the shorts.
compare that to how i draw folds now:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
the 'outline' lines on Teddy's suit reflect the stiff texture of the material. the folds are focused more towards the lower center of his torso, where the material is pinched by the buttons and the natural shape of his chest. the crotch area of his pants has folds up at top instead of all gathered towards the thighs, and i'll typically do that now after having observed it on some reference images.
Logan's jacket not only has folds towards the tension point of his elbows (and the folds don't extend all the way, so it doesn't look as wrinkly and too-tight), but also has folds to show where the shoulders are and where the jacket seams are.
David's pants have folds going in the direction of where his legs are moving since he's mid-walk, and the folds in his shirt are straight, horizontal lines to show how it conforms to his chest and abs.
and i have learned the WONDERS that varying line width can do when it comes to folds, so now you'll see me use thicker lines for more prominent folds, and thinner lines to suggest where certain muscles or areas of the body are under the clothing.
like in this piece here:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
the ONLY purpose those thin lines have is to show David's pec on his left side, and to hint at the musculature of his chest by having that line go down his side, curving in where the pec is. without those lines, the torso appears flatter and with less muscle.

How did you learn to draw bodies so well? I’m very envious of your art style!
I don't think I learned the right way. Just by repetition and observation.
For some time now I've had a better way, I've studied the skeleton and musculature more seriously. I was fed up with just being able to draw the outline of the body vaguely, my attention to detail also wanted to render the folds, bumps and hollows formed by the bones and muscles. This also affects the way the light comes across, so it's important to know how it works. Body posture can tell a lot. A seated person isn't just sitting, it's telling a story: they can be very relaxed, even slumped in their chair, or on the contrary very stiff, as if waiting for something stressful to happen. All this is easier to tell if you know how to vary postures, even subtly. Wanting to know how to do this led me to learn more about the human body. I also think that I tend to project myself into the drawing, I always ask myself if the posture is natural, or if it's comfortable. Also visualising the body I want to draw as a 3D object, understanding the volumes and knowing how to render them, to achieve good posture I also need to be aware of how the pieces impact on each other. For example, drawing a character with arms crossed means thinking about how the flesh of the upper arm rests on the flesh of the lower arm, whether the character is relaxed or tense, etc.
An exercise that I do from time to time and which I think helped, drawing a character in an absurd posture but which must be rendered realistically. A good example is circus acrobats. It takes you out of your comfort zone to understand how the body works.
I recommend : drawing from reference. practise with very quick sketches to learn how to schematise the body but also slower sketches to study in more detail. Do this as regularly as possible. There are lots of freely available reference stocks that can be used for this kind of exercise:
"How to think when you draw" is an excellent resource too, they don't just do the human body but when they do they explain really well how to understand articulation and movement.
I hope this answer is a bit helpful, and thanks for the compliment! :)

thank u for postin wips of ya falin cosplay i been wanting to do her for so long but had no idea where to even start, actively taking notes as you make it!
amazing work cant wait to see how it all turns out
Absolutely I'm glad to help!! Here's some detail stuff that isn't really clear from the photos:
-the shirt that I'm wearing is actually a shirt and a shrug. The shrug is a stretchy knit fabric that I glued probably close to 800 real feathers on. Initially I used that quick dry fabric glue and it worked for some of them, but going forward I think I'm gonna switch to hot glue, just because it does have to move a lot in the process of putting it on.
The other shirt is a layer of power mesh sewed to a lace back (I decided to do lace for the back because in a lot of references theres feathers but you can also see her musculature like shoulder blades etc. So I figured something lacy and see thru would work best there.) And then theres a feather ish fabric sewn to the power mesh on the front. Keeping the brood patch visible was very important to me, but I don't want my stomach hanging out, hence the mesh.
The reason I did a shirt and a shrug instead of just a long sleeve shirt is because, if necessary, the shrug is there to hide any sort of harnessing that may be needed to keep the body (the centaur ass as I call it) level. It's not clear if I'll actually Need the harness because the body and the back legs are being made in a way that they'll just kinda roll across the ground as they move. The original plan was to have them completely articulated, but with the weight of it all its just not possible.
- if you do make this and need to make the digitigrade pants, MAKE A DUCT TAPE DUMMY to get your pattern!! If every fursuit maker on earth does it YOU DO IT TOO. I didn't do it and trying to get the pattern off of that myself was a maaajor pain.
- the stilts are flashy, they're the major thing people notice, but they are NOT without risk and need for training. The ones I have I made myself with dad's help following a build log from Willow Creative and a buunch of other videos, instructables, etc. There's a lot of ways to do them. I used aluminum slats, but wood is a cheaper, easier to work with choice, and there are many videos and tutorials for how to do it with wood.
The way that mine are built, with the toe stop, there is quite a bit of pressure on the front of your foot. If you have experience with high heels you'll probably have a better time than me. I've walked on the fronts of my feet forever, and I regularly roller blade, and even then after about 20 minutes my feet will start to ache. I'm hoping if I work with them like any other exercise they'll get easier, but who knows. I'd definitely say if you Want the look but without the hassle, look into pure digitigrade padding and fursuiting. It's still a hassle just in a different way lol.
Thank you once again!! There's a lot of ways to do these, and you could even make one in a way where all of its on your body (like wings with a shoulder harness, tail with a belt), or I've seen some where it was more translated to a dress....it's all cosplay! It's for fun! I'm a crazy person and making this for a contest so keep that in mind lol!! If you do ever make yours, send it to me!!!!
One last thing, if you have a cosgear account, I'm on there at Maltrock !!

Mad Scientist x Recalcitrant Lover He Brought Back To Life
A continuation of this which is a continuation of this
He makes tea.
She would question what secret crevice of those barren cupboards he’d pulled it from, if she hadn’t watched him pick the leaves from the overgrown kitchen garden directly.
“Valerian, mint, hearthroot,” he informs her, knowing that she’d be curious about the selection, despite her mood. It’s a variation of what she used to make for herself every night.
The revelation doesn’t please her. In fact, the reference to their past only makes her frown deepen.
They sit together on lopsided stools, waiting for the water to boil. Pietro has his hands folded between his knees, squeezing and releasing, trying to steady himself as he teeters between bliss and anguish.
“I missed you,” he says. “I’m glad you’re home.”
Kelsi won’t look at him.
He has to bite back a smile— even this, her volatile temper, he pined for. She was always temperamental, prone to large, all consuming feelings, depending on the day, how well her plans were going at any given moment.
Pietro could scarcely keep up. At her mercy, then and now.
“I’m sorry for the mess,” he says, trying again to ease the tension. “My mind has been…elsewhere, recently.”
She mulls that over. There’s something different about him, the way he holds himself. He’s still meek as ever, but there’s a cat-like surety to the way he moves that escaped him in years past.
“Experiments?” she asks.
He palms the back of his neck. “Well, yes.”
“On yourself?”
“Well…”
“What was it?
“Root of atropa purella, mostly.”
An incredibly toxic plant if handled incorrectly, and not one Pietro showed any interest in previously. Kelsi was aware of the theories surrounding its properties, but it’s deadliness outweighed anyone’s desires to look into it. Until recently, evidently.
Finally, reluctantly, she peeks at him.
Eager to appease her, he rolls up the sleeve of his shirt, placing his arm on the table between them for her inspection.
The veins are blackened— elsewhere the effect is vague, easy to miss, but here the skin is thin and the color is stark, as is the pronounced musculature.
Kelsi touches his inner wrist, gently, investigating the effects. She draws closer, gaze intent, excited. He can feel her breath.
She’s so warm.
He’s craved this for so long.
He clears his throat.
“The dose I took was a work in progress. The recipe is quite finicky. A fine line between enhanced strength and instantaneous death.”
She squeezes him gently, testing the sinew. “You’ve developed a taste for body building?”
“It was for a client of mine.”
Her gaze turns sharp. “So you’re an herbalist mercenary, now?”
That was… true. Not quite how he’d phrase it, but he’s produced potions with effects both benevolent and otherwise. He would have done anything, frankly, to procure the funds for his venture. Experimenting on his own body was the least of his crimes.
Kelsi never liked the idea of using their knowledge for material gain. Still, she can’t hold back the inquisitive light in her eyes, can’t stop herself from asking, “What else did you make?”
Here— a foothold. Something to please her, entice her. He tenses under her touch.
Cheeks flushed, he starts, “Would you like to see—“
The doorbell rings.
It’s been so long since he heard it, he thought it had stopped working altogether.
Kelsi pulls away from him, startled.
Pietro grits his teeth.
He grabs the hatchet leaned against the wall. “Excuse me, for a moment, darling,” he says, marching towards the front door.
Kelsi gawks for a moment, before following.
“Dr. Pragma.” She bustles at his side, trying to catch his eye. His strides are almost twice as long as hers. “Doctor! What if it’s a guest?”
He doesn’t slow. “I don’t have guests.”
The ringing has stopped, replaced with the frantic pounding of fists, calls to open up. And beyond that, the buzzing of an encroaching swarm.
Pietro leans a shoulder against the door. “State your business.”
The voice on the other side is fretting, high and fast. “Doctor! Sir! Please let me in. Oh, lord. Can you hear me? Let me in, please!”
“State your business,” Pietro repeats, impatient.
“I’m from the Botanical Society — please open the door!”
“Not interested.” Pietro turns to leave, only to be stopped by Kelsi’s disapproving glare.
She tuts. “Doctor, that’s your colleague.”
“Ex-colleague.”
“Let her in.”
Pietro sighs. He shoves the door open, sending the young botanist reeling backwards. She’s quick to scramble into the safe haven of the castle on hands and knees.
“I thought you got rid of those,” she wheezes.
“Yes, well, they’re quite tenacious.” Pietro raises the hatchet. “Now, you have exactly ten seconds to explain why you’ve trespassed—“
He doesn’t even begin counting before the girl rushes in one breath, “I’m here to investigate an unauthorized use of magical herbs and/or mycelia on the premises.”
Pietro eyes her for another moment before lowering the hatchet. He scoffs. “You have no proof.”
The greenhouse is barren. All of the other plants on the estate have either withered or grown wild from neglect. Even most of the equipment used for brewing tonics and potions was sold off or traded for the mechanisms materials.
“We do.” The girl raises a trembling hand to point at Kelsi. “Her.”
Pietro glances at Kelsi. If she weren’t standing there with her arms crossed this exchange would already be over. “What about her?”
“Well, she was dead, Sir. Now she’s not.”
“And?”
“That would be indicative of a misuse of the mystical properties of a regulated species, Sir.”
“No it’s not.”
“It’s… not?”
“She was never dead.”
“But, we have the certificate—“
“She came back on her own.” Pietro nods, settling on the excuse. “A miracle.”
“A miracle?”
“Yes. A regular, run of the mill miracle.” He waves dismissively. “Are we done here?”
The girl pulls a notepad from her inner coat pocket. She flips through it, before whispering, “I’ll need to take a blood sample back with me so we can—“
The hatchet brushes her throat. Pietro’s expression is nonplussed. “Touch her and die.”
In the kitchen, the kettle whistles.

Hi! First off I jut wanted to say I'm a huge fan of your work. Your art inspires me so much and I love all of the fanfics you've written. Especially pieces of you. Anyways, I was wondering if you have any tips for beginners. Anatomy wise I mean. I'm not very good at Anatomy and was wondering if you had any tips? That's all. Keep up the great work!
thanks so much!!
man i love talking about learning How To Art, lets get to it *breaks my knuckles*
I did a quick tik tok a hot minute ago rambling on my process with figures:
I am trying to narrow down my thoughts and i think that overall, human anatomy is easiest to grasp by starting simple, then narrowing your focus.
as i mentioned in the above tik tok, simplification of shapes can really help, as well as memorizing general proportions of the body. even if you cannot draw the specific detail of, say, the musculature of a neck, or every single finger joint, if the structure is there and is generally in the right place, it will be far more helpful.
my favorite phrase in regards to developing skills and then style is, "you need to learn the rules before you can break them."
Observation and reference is super important, especially with something as complex as the human form. Frequently refer back to real people, pictures, references.
(If you are able to, I recommend trying to attend sessions with live models. If you can't there's lots of websites that give a similar structure to those sessions, but with photos instead (most sites give an option to exclude nude pictures as well which can be nice). (here's one i found by googling "figure drawing")
To practice simplified anatomy, i would probably recommend gesture drawing, just very quick and loose doodles from reference (with the above type of website, 60 seconds a pose or less!) to help get an idea of your basic shapes and proportions. (Some examples below!!)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Reference is very much your friend. if you do have a specific pose in mind, ask a friend to pose for a picture, or take one of you! (or be like me and use a webcam, because you've already got a tripod for it, why not)
Tumblr media
(tracing from photos can also be a good way to learn! though it is important to remember that it should be used as a LEARNING TOOL, not as a means to produce a final piece of artwork.)
my final note for this long ass ramble is that, often times people will pass along tutorials from other artists. HOARD THESE. so many people have really good tips for shortcuts, or how they think about things! (for example, this artist, Meg Syv, is someone whose work i really admire, PLUS she retweets a lot of tutorials as well as posts lots of WIP work, which gives some insight into her process!) (i think she's been coming back to Tumblr as well, @/bludragongal ) okay i think that's all i can word vomit for the moment. TLDR: Observe and Reference from Life, Simplified > Complex, Create a dragon hoard of tips and tutorials that other kind people post online. HOPE THIS HELPS!! All the well wishes for your art journey!

Amber's Art Resource Compilation (The Return!)
Once upon a time, I used to regularly share link collections of helpful art resources here that I would stumble across on my various feeds and timelines, both to keep track of them for myself for later reference, and to share them with others who also might find these resources useful or interesting. And considering how many websites most folks are spread across nowadays? It seems like as good a time as any for me to start doing this again! Feel free to share and reblog to whoever you think will benefit!
(I would recommend that if there's any links that you find particularly helpful, perhaps save the image or video to your computer for safekeeping. I have no idea how long Twitter links will work because of obvious site shenanigans, even with Nitter as a workaround...)

"The only promise a puzzle makes is an answer. Liking the answer doesn't factor in."
"Sometimes you have to talk about things that make you feel uncomfortable."
"I'm smarter than everyone I meet. I know it's bad form to say that, but, in my case, it's a fact."
"Who the hell are you? Because you're obviously not the person I thought you were before."
"You haven't got to look out for me. I'll look out for you."
"Nothing makes a smart man stupid like a thirst for vengeance."
"I know that we're not the best of friends or anything, but do you honestly think that I might kill a man?"
"May I give you my professional opinion?"
"You have to look out for family, even when they disappoint you."
"I know that it's hard, but one of these days you've got to get over yourself."
"What happens when people figure out that we came in here and cut up a body in the middle of the night?!"
"I wish your word meant something more to me."
"Sometimes new eyes on a case can be just as useful as new information."
"There are ways to hurt you that do not involve hurting you."
"I will never allow any harm to come to you. Not ever."
"I've already told you that you're beautiful, and I can see the way that you're looking at me. Why would we need to leave this apartment to enjoy each other's company?"
"Is this what you want, or what you think you owe?"
"It makes the world quite dull, no? Looking at a man and knowing all his secrets."
"You look at people and see puzzles. I see games."
"What's the point in living with a former surgeon if you can't stitch the occasional bullet hole?"
"I apologise for the subterfuge, but it seemed the most expedient way to get you here."
"You're broken into pieces right now. I can put you back together and, once you're whole, I'll show you a different way to love."
"We both made the same mistake. Falling in love. We were both stupid."

Amy could be a Twig villain and Victoria could be the Lambs' Professor Hayle
There actually is an implied Victoria reference in Twig with Lady Gloria, a blonde-haired noble who spends money on charities for her people and who tries to negotiate with the Lambs. Of course, she ends up dying in a last-minute charge against the Infante's soldiers, trying to defend her own men. Amy as a Twig villain... I can sort of see her as being a Black Coat prodigy who went rogue, trying to save her dying step-sister against Vic's will. Vic is now an experiment, older than most, body covered in thin lines and scars that seem interconnected. However, her body isn't just her own, as she now has a second nervous system within herself. And when in danger or when emotions run rampant, she *unfolds*, scars/lines peeling away to reveal compacted musculature and cartilage in the form of hands and faces, the victims Amy used to repair Victoria.
