Just some food for thought- a lot of times I find myself super frustrated with the whole Colin doesn't see Penelope 'that way' and it takes him (in the books till he's in early 30s) sooooo long to see her as a romantic partner and not just a platonic friend. But rewatching season 1 & 2 really hammered in just how intertwined Penelope as been with the Bridgerton children.

Anthony and Benedict, in particular, really showcase this in how they talk and act around Pen as if she's their surrogate sister in a way.

Season 1 when Anthony is arguing with Daphne that Simon is not a serious suitor and he has the iconic line 'They danced a couple times at a ball. Colin has done the same with Penelope Featherington.' 👀👀 Pen is out in society, she could, in theory, find herself a husband just like Daphne is attempting to do and yet it's such a wild idea to Anthony.

Season 2ep. 2 before Colin 'heart eyes' bridgerton comes home, Pen walks into their drawing room unannounced, and here's Benedict in his shirt sleeves, no coat and lounging sideways in a chair. Doesn't even look up when his mother addresses Pen's presence. If it was ANYONE else he wouldn't be caught chilling in his shirt sleeves; it simply wasn't done in polite company. This is just compounded when Anthony walks in and says 'Family ready yourselves for the races, we go united as one..' with Penelope standing right there!

It is in this way easy to see why it takes Colin sooo long to snap out of it and start viewing Penelope in a romantic way.

Finished the first pancake (season 1 rewatch) and have started my millionth rewatch of my dear dear dear season 2. So my next however many posts will be about the iconic Kanthony (Polin, you know I’ll come back to you.) And I really must begin with this:

What a delivery, good LORD. It’s soul-stirring. It’s a shot of adrenaline to the heart. It’s ambrosia. Jonathan Bailey, the absolute fucking KING that you are, how the fuck do you do it? DAMN. I’m always caught between envy and attraction with that one. How Kate didn’t even flinch at that, I’ll never know. But of course the very fact that she does not hesitate for a second to come back at him with a devastating burn is why she is the queen of Anthony’s heart (and mine) and now the Viscountess Bridgerton.

The iconic opening sequence, an all-time favourite!

A minute in and we're given our first hit of the Bridgerton family, with all the amazing sibling vibes.

Gregory, channeling his best Captain America. Does that make Hyacinth "Falcon"?

Francesca getting some of her only lines out, early in the season. I forgot she existed, the first time I watched. Poor Frannie.

This volley between Colin and Benedict is so fun. It also hints at how Colin and Daphne are close, which we get in the books but unfortunately not much more than this in the show. I guess there's only so much you can fit in!

And of course, the fabulous Eloise! It's no wonder she was my favourite character in season 1. Hilarious moment and what a way to start the first season!

Bridgerton Rewatch S1E1 - Diamond of the First Water (Part 2)

Here's part 2 of the S1E1 Rewatch

Something I noticed is that Eloise has a lot of sympathy for Daphne when it comes to the whole Berbrooke thing. She tries to stay with Daphne when he’s the only one who calls on her. In general, they’re a lot closer here than they are once Berbrooke is out of the picture.

Thinking back on it and watching the show again, Pen is the only one who could have ever been Lady Whistledown. Given the derision and abuse she’s been through by the entire ton, especially her own mother, she’s a teenager who’s lashing out. She’s an afterthought to everyone except Colin and Eloise.

Speaking of Colin and Penelope, he has always thought highly of her. When he’s leaving the Featheringtons after calling on Marina, Pen is the only one he says goodbye to. He doesn’t even bid Marina farewell; it’s just Pen.

Daphne and Eloise have very similar views on their place in the world. Daphne does not like that marriage is her only option. She has just made her peace with it.

Lady Whistledown’s dig at Marina’s “pretty little slippered feet” was so obviously Pen, I don’t know how anyone thought it wasn’t her.

The Queen’s dismissal of Daphne is a good early indicator of how much she cares about LWD’s opinion.

I need more Violet/Lady Danbury scheming. They’re both so clever, the matchmaking worked wonders.

This next note says “Anthony shut the fuck up challenge.” Again, no idea what that’s in reference to but it’s applicable to any scene he’s in.

So they plant a Cressida/Colin dynamic really early on of her wanting to be with him. Not much on this here, I’m just looking forward to seeing how that plays out in season 3.

What drives me crazy is that Colin DOES NOT LET GO OF PEN’S HAND when the music stops. They aren’t dancing anymore but Colin is still holding Pen’s hand. Idiots in love at its finest.

Not gonna lie, those lights are sick.

Season 1 Anthony has 2 modes: pompous idiot or callous asshole. He manages to be both when he tells Daphne that he promised her to Berbrooke.

Quick Marina sidebar - first, I couldn’t imagine just having to bleed through on my period. That sounds like hell. Second, it would never happen but I would love if Marina slapped Lady F back. Full on “They Call Me Mr. Tibbs!” action.

Back to Daphne, we’re at the attempted assault scene. Something that I noticed this time around is that Berbrooke is pissed at Daphne because, to him, she thinks she’s better than him. The thing is, she is technically higher class than he is. He comes from a barony; she’s the daughter of a viscount. In a purely hierarchical sense, she is better than him. She comes from a better family. And I know that there’s the gender politics involved here but I’m choosing to ignore them because they are stupid.

I’ve watched this show several times. Daphne punching Berbrooke in the face will always be satisfying as fuck.

I’d like to take this bullet point to say that Simon is iconic. His dialogue is so well-written. Love it.

End of episode thoughts: This is a really well-done pilot. It marries romance, drama, and comedy amazingly. I’m looking forward to seeing what else I find on a closer inspection of the series.

~ this whole series. wow. just wow. Aniqua has been writing on here for some time now and it’s an absolute honor to call her a mutual of mine. Poker is a fantastic series that melds dark themes with smut and captured the characters in such an interesting and unique light. I love the dynamics between Steven x Reader x Marc and how the strain of deep, intimate feelings can create ridges between people. Aniqua, you absolute QUEEN! There has never been a fic I’ve disliked, you knock it out of the park every time.

Sting // @laters-gators // 18+ minors DNI

~ maybe one of the best, if not the best, stand-alone marc spector x reader fics out there. I see so much praise for it and there is nothing more to say except: so so so well deserved. Sting is spicy, juicy (no pun intended), full of everything I freaking love about smutty fanfics and just so well written. Bravo Jas, you splendid peanut, bravo.

It's Worth It, It's Divine // @the-archxr // 18+ DNI

Holy. Shit. There are few fics that take my breath away (in a great, smutty way) and this is certainly one of them. This is not only brillantly written, but it's full of passion and you can really, really tell how much effort faith put into establishing a reader who has substance and a complicated connection to Marc through being an avatar herself. It may be highly niche in your perspective girl, but let me tell you, those of us who have indulged just. want. more! Marc Spector x Fem!Reader

The Truth is Rarely Kind // @starks-hero // View Warnings

This is a part 2 of Ali's other fic Smoke and Mirrors and I just love them both to bits. Angsty fics are my absolute favorites and the dynamic between Marc x Reader x Steven is great. I think there are a handful of people who write on here that have it down, the dynamic, and this fic is definitely one of them. It's so freaking good and heartbreaking and beautifully written. Well done, Ali.

They're Not the Only Ones // @maximoff-pan // Part I of III

~ Gia has written and absolutely perfect pining pic of Benny B and Reader being absolutely oblivious to their love for each other. I love the intentional involvement of moments from each season thus far, including a hypothetical scene between Pen and Colin where Reader and Benedict have the chance but miss it every time. The end is so cute and fluffy, which is often hard to write but this author does it flawlessly.

Forgive Me // @benedictscanvas // View Warnings

~ Ciara said this is her first Bridgerton fic and tbh, you'd never realize it. Holy smokes was this good! And by good I mean absolutely amazing, amazing, amazing! Friends to lovers is such an iconic trope and so tempting to read every single one but this fic, this fic has such wonderful qualities to it that makes it hard to 1. find a fic that compares and 2. not be sad when its over. READ THIS everyone who loves Benedict as much as I do. READ IT! (Benedict Bridgerton x Reader)

Nine // @foxilayde // 18+ DNI

This one… this is maybe my favorite fic of all? I know it seems superficial to say it but I just love the way this is written. It's long (which is perfect imo), smutty, romantic, filled with a billion human emotions that it's so nice to see in a reader and Poe. The reward of smut with all the world and relationship building is so unbelievably fantasic and it's incredibly witty which is so, so hard to write. There is nothing more to say other than 1. Danny, beautiful job and keep writing and 2. GO FREAKING READ IT! I cannot stress either of those two points enough. (Poe Dameron x Fem!Reader)

Starfish // @cinewhore // 18+ DNI

I read this months ago and go back and re-read it for fun. It's such a good little fic about a show that has a lot of potential and a small, but growing base. Also, I never found Jake Johnson attractive until I watched Minx and now… welp… here we are. Tish does a wonderful job weaving angst, fluff, and smut with a reader character that has her own motivations and wants, not simply a one-dimensional product of the position she finds herself it. I just love this fic so much and I will be re-reading it until the end of time. (Doug Renetti x Fem!Adult Reader)

Also, Sympathies of a Wife??? Bloody amazing. I truly hope there are more coming one day (I know how hard it is to write so no pressure) but it's literally amazing and deserves its own spot. (Nathan Bateman x Fem!Reader)

Masterlist of Oscar Characters // @writefightandflightclub // View Warnings For Each

This entire masterlist, actually, their entire collection of writings, are perfection. I adore them all! I have been a fan of that man's characters for a literal decade so reading fics on Nathan Bateman, Llewyn Davis, Abel Morales, and some of his more popular ones like Duke Leto and Santiago Garcia is the best feeling in the world–especially when they're so incredibly well done. There is not a fic on the masterlist that I dislike, rather, freaking love them all. Each are crafted with such exquisite writing and the variety in types is awesome. Luna I love them all. I re-read them all the time and to be a follower of your writing is an honor.

Have you sean any Shonda shows aside from Bridgerton? I'm tempted to watch but I'm told they get bad after a few seasons

I have seen... most Shonda shows aside from Bridgerton, I'm afraid lol.

Grey's Anatomy--Obviously has been on for a million years, I have been watching with some off and on periods (currently off but I check in) since... season 2. Grey's Anatomy is a BEAST. It's obviously her biggest show (Bridgerton stans I'm sorry baby but y'all can and probably never will stand up to the cultural BEHEMOTH that is Grey's, which has been on for ALMOST. TWENTY. YEARS. Ugh choke me.) In a lot of ways, Grey's is a standard medical soap, much like E.R. In other ways, it is both better and worse. I will not lie--the DRAMA of the early seasons is amazing. Season 2 of Grey's Anatomy is kinda legendary. Season 1 ending on "and you must be the woman who's screwing my husband?"

Like, whatever you feel about Meredith and McDreamy (they are... something............) the Meredith/Derek/Addison love triangle is something I don't think a lot of shows would attempt today because everything is boring and Cheating Is Evil, which means all of the people in that triangle are Evil and Bad and We Can't Like EvilBad People. Addison is one of my favorite characters on TV, which is why I also watched the entirety of the spinoff, Private Practice, which isn't anything to write home about and they kinda botched Addie at points, but she gets her HEA and I'm good with that part. It has some really emotional moments.

Also, the Denny Duquette arc in season 2 is kind of the sort of TV that everyone should at least watch for like, the history of it all. Cristina Yang is one of the greatest TV characters of all time, imo. (Cristina and Burke... whatever Isaiah Washington is irl, Cristina and Burke were a VERY compelling ship to me back in the day lol. She was his mentee??? He was her boss???? They were both kinda cool operators except they fell in love? It was toxic but it was good.

Scandal is... again, iconic TV, but damn did it fall off. I mean lol, the first two seasons were incredibly compelling TV. I'd watch them again. High drama. I hate Olitz as a couple, but I mean. There was some weird stuff happening in that show, and I did kinda eat it up. B6-13 was weird, but it did bring me Papa Pope, and I loved that nutjob. THE SMARTEST GUY IN THE ROOM. EVIL DAD.

Still Star-Crossed is bad, don't listen to anyone who tries to tell you otherwise, it should've been cancelled when it was lol.

I hate Inventing Anna. I'm glad that the Julia Garner hype seems to be dying a bit, I do not see it for her as this Great Talent at all lol.

How to Get Away with Murder.... Not something she wrote, but it has Shonda all over it. Viola Davis gives the type of performance that like, took the innovation of Olivia Pope to another level. Both were obviously something we really didn't see a lot of on mainstream primetime TV before this, and I think Shondaland does deserve props for making it prominent--the true Black antiheroine, and honestly in both Olivia and Annalise's cases, borderline villainous heroines. Also, it gave me Wes, who I love so much, and Alfie Enoch was so good in this role, and Wes and Annalise's relationship was so like... pseud-maternal/filial, but I also felt like they could kiss at any moment? The kind of dynamic usually reserved for white characters with an older man/younger woman. Season 3 really uhhhh screwed me lol, but the first two seasons, especially the season 1 arc? OOOH COMPELLING.

#this was interesting and therapeutic thank you #it's honestly wild for me to remember that not everyone started watching shonda shows at like 11 and had resulting brainrot #but fwiw i have a 17 year old sibling who regularly rewatches like the first eight seasons or so of grey's lmao #their rule is that they stop watching after the plane crash #which like... tbh is not a bad rule of thumb #i feel like the plane crash was the last Great Grey's Anatomy Disaster #nothing really hit as hard after that #plus before the plane crash p much everyone we cared about passed their boards so lol

My contenders were:

Treacherous for the bane of my existence scene (put your lips close to mine / as long as they don’t touch)

brief comment i wanted to make, but this was the year i finally took control of my mental health and went to go see someone about it so congratulations to me for finally breaking down the wall of "im fine" and allowing myself to admit that i could use some help. that aside, lets get into it! beware, possible spoilers

MOVIES

1. Nope (dir. Jordan Peele) - this movie surprised me so much and reflects a LOT of my views on performative/spectacle-like behavior in front of the Camera and the effects things like hollywood or social media could potentially have on people...not going to get into that but i just liked the movie alot okay

2. X (dir. Ti West) - love me some camp. love mia goth. i also really liked Pearl and cannot WAIT for MaXXXine, i am so ready

3. Cruel Intentions (dir. Roger Kumble) - i dont think 2022 was the first year i watched Cruel Intentions but everytime i watch it, it feels like something brand new...i am so compelled to read the book that its based on like seriously

4. Turning Red (dir. Domee Shi) - this is the only Disney movie that exists to me...the mother-daughter relationship portrayed here is just so personal

5. Kiki’s Delivery Service (dir. Hayao Miyazaki) - yeah im extremely late to watching this lol. i watched literally every other ghibli film growing up but somehow, in some way, skipped over Kiki. so i watched it over the summer as an adult and needless to say...yeah i missed out as a kid asjashd

6. American Psycho (dir. Mary Harron) - this is the funniest film ive seen this whole year. im not even kidding

TV SHOWS

1. Breaking Bad/Better Call Saul - never thought id enjoy a show about a middle-aged white male turning to meth production to make ends meet and becoming the most annoying character ever created, but here we are. loved it, and literally EVERYONE around walt deserved so much better (jesse, gus, johnny/saul, mike, skylar, marie, hank)

2. Ranma 1/2 - ive taken a break from watching new anime this year and started diving into older ones. i love ranma simply bc its a bit ahead of its time and is just so easy to digest. just a fun little show!!! a great way to take my mind off of shit

3. The Sandman - just found out recently that this was a DC comic so congrats to DC for successfully infiltrating my anti-superhero visual barrier LOL. anyways i am in dire NEED of the next season

4. You - PENN BADGLEY. thats all im going to say. im a huge fan of Gossip Girl (2007) and as soon as i saw him playing the lead character i RAN to watch the first season when it dropped. was not disappointed

5. The Witcher - ive never played the game lol but the show is so good...im not a fan of GoT (and therefore will never watch HotD) so this show p much fills the dark fantasy void for me

6. Bridgerton - im so glad i got over my weird distaste and finally gave this show a try...i see the hype, i see it!! and the show itself is so beautiful to look at, despite being historically innacurate or whatever

7. Gossip Girl (2007) - ive watched and rewatched this show a grand total of maybe like....20 times in my life total. rewatched it again this year. all six seasons. it never gets old despite being the most ridiculous insipid shit ever. im also currently watching the new version, and while i love the cast and maybe the soundtrack, it doesnt match up to the campy and fun vibe that the first one had. it takes itself way too seriously and the plot is almost nonexistent lol

but anyway, lets move on to music!! im skipping over books bc i have currently finished NONE from the book haul i had back in october.

Who is your style icon?

My style icon is a mix of two people. Tracee Ellis Ross, I love her use of fun colors and bold patterns and Audrey Hepburn. I love her use of tailoring and shapeliness of her outfits. The combination of these two is my dream fashion icon.

Who is the most prolific in the Bridgerton group chat?

I think the person who is really good at getting people together and do social stuff is Bessie Carter who plays Prudence Featherington.

Which other celebrity would you trust to give you a tattoo?

It’s got to be someone that’s good at art because i want a cool tattoo. I’m trying to think! I know Simone’s really good at drawing. So I’d think she’d be able to give a cool tattoo and she does have a tattoo gun and she does know a lot about tattoos. Shelley Conn, who plays my mom on Bridgerton, is very crafty. She does a lot of DIY stuff but I don’t know if that translates to tattoos. So either Simone or Shelley. There’s so much pressure to get a tattoo that’s really meaningful that you won’t regret and I have such an inertia because I put so much pressure on it. So I think probably I’d get something really silly and meaningless. Maybe like a pug. I don’t know.

Where were you when you found out you'd got the role of Edwina Sharma in Bridgerton?

It’s actually a really good story. I was helping my mum on her allotment. So we were making a polytunnel with PVC tubing and I was measuring and cutting. I get a call from my agent telling me that I’m gonna be in glamorous gowns for the next six months so real juxtaposition there. The skill and the effort that go into making each of these gowns, I mean they’re couture gowns. So i had a lot of respect for the art that was created with the costumes.

How excited were you about joining the show?

I think the experience of new cast members is very different from the season 1 cast because, you know, when they were filming season 1 and when they were casting season 1, they, i don’t think they had any idea of what it was gonna be.

That is was gonna big as big of a phenomenon as it is. But joining season 2 and joining season 3, you know, we know how important it is to people.

What’s your beauty secret?

I have two actually. I’m feeling very generous today. The first thing is and I got from a lovely person that I met at British Fashion Counsel. The best “eyebrow gel” to get feathered laminated brow look is to use latex-free eyelash glue because I have very horizontal brows. So if you brush them up with latex-free eyelash glue, they stay and you get that laminated look without having to actually laminate them. The other tip is and I got this from a Youtube video that Sir John, Beyonce’s makeup artist, did where he said he uses eye cream as lip balm because it won’t add that glossy texture that Vaseline or gel might have. So it’s a matte moisturiser essentially.

What are three things you can’t live without?

I’m very practical- My phone. A phone charger. Electricity. But if I’m thinking non-practical: chocolate, tequila and tabasco. I love food so– yeah. All food related.

What style advice do you live by?

The best style advice I can give is: don’t focus on trends. Find out what you enjoy, what works for you regardless whether you see it on a magazine. Just be true to yourself. And don’t be afraid to experiment.

Truly, my go to look is jeans and a nice top. It’s just so effortless and classic and you don’t have to think about it too much. Right now, I’m loving the Levi’s Wide Straights, they are so flattering and easy to wear. And I love having a colorful, printed top on with some fun colorful boots. And that’s kind of my go to look everyday.

What’s your dream date?

April 25th, it’s not too hot, it’s not to cold. That’s from one of my favourite movies; Miss Congeniality!

I think the first few dates I would prefer a drink, where you can look someone in the eye and get to know them and talk to them. But generally I love activity dates, maybe bowling or going for a hike. To be able to share an experience with someone is really fun.

What book do you recommend to everyone?

Essays in love by Alain de Botton. When Breath Becomes Air by Paul Kalanithi. It’s devastating, but for me it’s about the exploration of what it means to be human. All About Love by Bell Hooks, I think, for young women, it’s a really important book to read.

Is there a TV show you wish you were in?

Succession. I say this in every interview like genuinely,I would love to be in Succession. My housemate and I are rewatching it right now in preparation for season 4 because it cannot come soon enough. I’m team Kendall, but my favourite interactions are cousin Greg and Tom Wambsgans. I think I’m probably a bit like Shiv or would be like a Shiv in terms of the character I would play.

What’s you go-to comfort meal?

God, I have so many! But my favourite meal is something called kothu parotta and it’s a very classic Tamil dish. It is just the perfect combination of salt, fat, acid, heat. And it’s just, urgh, the umami! It’s so good. But if I think about easy quick comfort meal, it’d just be a bowl of pasta with pesto.

How open are you about your life on social media?

Before the show I think I was really open about the ups and the downs. And I think that when you have a lot of people watching you, you do feel the scrutiny a bit more, and I have noticed holding myself back a lot and I think that’s something that I need to change. I want to go back to feeling like myself, but it’s a process of figuring that out.

What makes you happiest?

I’m on the journey of figuring that out. I think there’s a lot of pressure for us to have the answers to these complicated philosophical questions but I feel like the purpose of life is the journey and the experience of these things. I don’t think we are supposed to find the answers to these questions. But, things that make me happy? Food, watching a good film, hanging out with my family and friends.

What are you most excited for right about?

I just wrapped up filming on a movie which will came out next year- I cannot say when. And I’m developing a limited series at the moment, and there are a couple of things I cannot mention! I hate to be that person! But what I’m really excited about, in terms of the industry, is that there really is a push to have diversity in front of the camera and behind the camera, which is equally as important. Like, the projects that you hear circulating, whether I’m involved in them or not, are so cool and are gonna be so important for future generations in terms of representation and it’s incredibly exciting.
