Snippet meme

@allcanonisrelative and @impishtubist posted a lovely pair of snippets as an AU to Yes Sir, That's Our Baby, which is of course Hawkeye/BJ babyfic. So I thought I'd share my AU Hawkeye/Mulcahy babyfic. Except, I'm me, so she's not exactly a baby.

This is an AU where Hawkeye was an army doctor drafted in the Vietnam war and Francis was an army chaplain, so they're about twenty years younger than they are in the mainverse.

Hawkeye put the phone down. He looked around the office and the boxes he had barely started to unpack, and closed his eyes, just briefly. Then he punched in their home number.

"Who is it?" Francis said. He sounded pre-occupied and exasperated.

"I have wonderful news," Hawkeye said.

"You're coming home early," Francis said.

"No. I mean, yes," Hawkeye said. "I probably am, but I've still got to talk to at least three people here before I can leave and you'll want me to go to the mall before I get home."

"Why?" Francis said, and then, a moment before Hawkeye said, he got it, from the complicated little noise he made down the phone.

"I'm pregnant," Hawkeye said.

He let himself grin then, as Francis made those noises of surprise, worry, astonishment, panic, and - despite everything - delight.

"You can't be," Francis said. "What - who - ? Why?"

"Caseworker called," Hawkeye said. "Mrs Connolly. Fifteen, troubled, mom died, dad's not in the picture, she's getting into fights at school - "

"She? We're having a girl?"

"Yes," Hawkeye said.

"You need to go to the mall before you come home, we have nothing in the house for a girl - "

"She'll be arriving with a couple of suitcases, caseworker said. Mom died about a month ago. All their things aside from the two cases are in store in Los Angeles. We're getting her because they decided she had to be moved out of the area, into a completely different school district, and they asked around and one of the people they asked was Peg Hunnicutt - "

"Oh," Francis said.

"Yeah, and Peg said, if you want her to have a new start in a good foster home, I know these two guys - "

"Ah," Francis said. In New York City, they had fostered troubled teens over twenty years, mostly boys, though there had been some brother-sister placements. "How long for?"

Hawkeye shrugged. "Depends if dad shows up. If not, and if the placement works out, I guess til she's eighteen. Caseworker said she knew our paperwork wasn't up-to-date for California - " They had only moved here three days ago, and they hadn't been intending to start fostering again " - but she'd rush it and we'd be registered from yesterday by next Monday."

"When is she arriving?" Francis asked.

"Our stork is due - " Hawkeye checked his watch " - in three hours and twenty minutes."

"Oh, Hawkeye - " Francis sounded really exasperated. "Be home in two hours, all right? I'll get her bedroom set up, even if nothing else is ready. Get the basics from the mall, we'll go shopping with her tomorrow."

"Tomorrow is the first day of term, that's why they're rushing it."

"We'll go shopping with her tomorrow after school," Francis said. "Did the caseworker - Mrs Connolly - mention any allergies, any diet issues?"

"Nope."

"Pizza, probably," Francis said. "What's her name?"

"Buffy Summers."

"Buffy?"

"We're in California now."

"Can you - "

"I know what to get," Hawkeye said. "I'll be home in two hours. I love you."

"I love you," Francis said, but he still sounded exasperated. They hung up on each other, and Hawkeye got up to speak to the first of three people he had decided he could not skip speaking to on his first day.

He made three stops at the mall, and was home with an hour to spare. "Or more, if the traffic is bad driving from Los Angeles," Hawkeye noted, kissing Francis.

Their front room had been set up with a sofa and a couple of armchairs, facing their television: some of their books had been unpacked, and boxes stood below part-filled shelves. Their spare room - the girl's room, now - was perfectly in order: bed neatly made with clean plain sheets and pillows and a duvet: chest of drawers by the wall: a clock and a bedside light on the bedside cabinet. Francis had even hung curtains in the windows. Hawkeye handed Francis the bag of things he'd got at CVS, and let Francis deal with that: he hung one set of bath towel, hand towel, and face cloth, and put the other two sets away in the chest of drawers.

"You need to shower and change," Hawkeye said. "You smell like you've been wrestling furniture all day."

Francis glanced at his watch.

"Relax. You have at least half an hour."

"Did you get - " Francis said, sounding pre-occupied.

" - yes, and I can follow a boxed recipe."

Francis stopped, and looked at Hawkeye. "Yes, I know you can," he said, and smiled at Hawkeye. "Thank you."

"I'm so excited I could plotz," Hawkeye said, cheerfully. "But instead, I'm just going to go downstairs and bake brownies." He kissed Francis, and Francis reached up and caught the back of his head and pulled him down and kissed him, and they used up at least five minutes they could not really spare, but Francis was quick in the shower when he wanted to be, and Hawkeye had bought the simplest generic cake mix he could find. The brownies were cooling on a rack, filling the house with a comfortable, homey aroma, and Francis was downstairs, fully-dressed, and filling the coffee maker, when the doorbell rang.

The next half hour was what it always was. The caseworker, Mrs Conolly, had forms to be filled in and signed: she accepted a cup of coffee and a brownie, and so did the girl - Mrs Conolly wouldn't let her leave her sight until both Francis and Hawkeye had filled in the required forms and signed them and provided their ID - and then, she collected the paperwork, and shook hands with each of them, and told the girl she would be back to see her in a few days or you have my number, call me, and left. Hawkeye had gone to show her out: when he came back, Francis and the girl were still sitting either side of the table, each with a cup of coffee in front of them. Neither had drunk very much, and the girl had barely nibbled on the brownie.

"Look," said the girl, "I know the score."

"Is that so?" Hawkeye said.

She had a clear, distinct voice, and sounded very sure of herself. "I can take care of myself. You guys just need to show me where the school is, and I'll be out of your hair most of the day. Anyway, this is just temporary, right?"

"Well," Francis said. "We're very happy to have you here, Miss Summers, however long you stay." He smiled. I'm Francis Mulcahy - you can call me Mr Mulcahy or Francis, whichever you prefer."

"And I'm Doctor Pierce, or Hawkeye."

"Hawkeye?" The girl sounded startled. "Like the - " She made gestures which Hawkeye, who was used to this reaction, understood to be miming a bow-and-arrow. " - from the comics?"

"No," Hawkeye said. "Same spelling, different hero. I'm a doctor - I work at a clinic the other side of the mall from here."

"Can I show you round the house, Miss Summers?" Francis said.

"Buffy," the girl said. She got up. She was eyeing both of them, not exactly warily, but as if she was suddenly less sure of herself. "You guys are gay, right?"

"I'm gay, Francis is delightful," Hawkeye said, solemnly.

She gave him a puzzled look, and Hawkeye smiled at her.

"We've only just moved in ourselves, Buffy," Francis said. "Let me give you the full tour. Hawkeye, could you find those take-out menus?"

3) What was your first fandom?

So like, the first fandom I ever read fic for was Buffy the Vampire Slayer (I'm fucking old, okay?) I bought a bunch of the Angel/Buffy crossover novels, I wrote HORRIBLE prepubescent fueled fanfiction and saved it to floppy discs. I'm so glad that's all long, long gone and no one will ever find it.

The first fandom I was old enough and like, competent enough to really participate in? Probably Pokemon. WAY back in Ye Olde Tumblr days I ran a Sir Aaron Pokemon roleplay blog and then went on to run a few Dragon Age RP blogs (some that still exist out there.)

15) What are some of your favorite tropes to write?

It's probably no secret I love angst and hurt/comfort, obviously, but those feel so broad. I guess I like totally-requited-unrequited-feelings, it's a huge theme in my BigChan fic and in my novel. Another I really enjoy is Person A hiding an injury from Person B. Muah. It's so good.

I also often explore the themes of death and grief. Death and grief are so complicated and manifest in so many different ways that I really enjoy playing with different aspects of it (my most popular fics from other fandoms all revolved around mortality, death, and martyrdom.)

22) Pick out a random line from a fic you're really proud of

Okay so I'm mentioning this one first because it's the one I'm most known for but I want it ON RECORD that I felt like a huge dork asshole while writing it and thought to myself "everyone is going to laugh at how corny this is" and yet a whole year later I still get people screeching on Twitter about how they think it's such a good line and they still think about it (thank you all, I love you.)

“Yes,” Stede breathed, his own hands coming to rest on Ed’s arms as he leaned back into his touch. He gasped and tilted his head to the side, allowing Ed more room as he nipped and kissed his way along his neck. “Edward… Are you going to deflower your King?” He asked, hoping the slight waver in his voice didn’t ruin his teasing tone entirely. “From stem to stamen, your Majesty.”

Now my personal choice? This one is from Chapter 2 of The Lyrebird King and I dunno, it's not really anything special but it scratches my brain just the right way and makes me happy. I feel like it perfectly sums up the dynamic between Aries and Caius in their early days.

As Aries leaned forward, knife pressed against the soft flesh of his unprotected torso, Caius succumbed to a startling realization. He didn’t want to hurt Aries. His eyes fell to watch as a small crimson bloom spread across the thin cotton of Aries’ shirt, the nocuous mark enough to shock him into dropping the dagger with just a twitch of his fingers and a halted gasp.

Hellsing Liveblog Ch. 51-56

This is the “Seras Coming of Age” part of Hellsing, but the chapters are all one-off titles: “Last Mission”, “Get Away”, “Yaksa”, “The Man I Love”, “Ogre Battle”, and “Angelous,”

Last time, Zorin Blitz’s company invaded the Hellsing HQ, and Seras managed to kill them all except for Zorin herself, and then she used her psychic whammy, forcing Seras to relive some traumatic moment. We saw one of the Wild Geese get this same treatment, and he briefly saw his dead daughter before Zorin killed him. As for Seras, she relives the deaths of her parents. Years ago, two guys barged into their home and shot them. The circumstances aren’t entirely clear, but they must have had some forewarning, since Seras’ mom hid her in a closet and told her not to come out no matter what. But when she saw what they did to them, Seras became so enraged that she attackedthe men and stabbed one in the eye with a fork.

The other guy shot Seras, and while she must have survived, she remembers laying on the floor as the guy she stabbed decides to rape her mother. I’m not even sure “rape” is the right word, since she was already dead, but the guy doesn’t care because the body is “still warm.” You’d think he’d be too upset about losing an eye, but maybe he’s high on cocaine or something.

I don’t think you need me to tell you this, gentle reader, but hol-ee shit this dark. We knew Seras’ parents died when she was young, and it wouldn’t be hard to speculate that they died in some violent crime, but Seras watched it happen, and she stabbed a dude in the face, only to get shot herself, and she watched her mother’s body getting molested before she passed out.

And this gives us some insight into what Alucard saw in her that night in Cheddar. There, Seras was surrounded by ghouls, many of them her comrades in the police department, and a vampire who promised to rape her before drinking her blood. Alucard found it remarkable how she persevered in this horror, but now we see that may not even be the worst thing that ever happened to her. It’s not even the first time she got shot!

And from the earlier flashback we saw, Seras was hellbound to become a police officer like her father. After a trauma like this, it’s amazing that she’d want anything to do with the police, since those men killed her father for digging “too deep” into whatever they were involved in. But Seras quietly, defiantly chose to follow in her father’s footsteps, only to suffer a similar fate.

Because, let’s not forget, Seras is dead. She died in Cheddar, because Alucard had to shoot through her to kill the vampire who had taken her hostage. Then she agreed to become a vampire like him, and join the Hellsing Organization. Once more, she has quietly, defiantly, chosen to carry on in this life of public service.

But none of that matters to Zorin Blitz. She just wanted to dredge up all this trauma to keep Seras preoccupied long enough for Zorin to do this...

Oh, also she lopped off Seras’ left arm, but I liked this impalement panel better.

On top of that, Zorin slashes Seras’ eyes, which was pretty gruesome and shocking. When I started watching the Hellsing Ultimate OVA, I couldn’t wait to see what happened next, so I trawled YouTube for clips of Seras, so I had a pretty good idea where the character was headed, and noticed that late-story Seras was missing a left arm. So Zorin cutting it off didn’t surprise me much, but everything else she did to her was a surprise.

Then, just as Zorin seems to be ready to finish Seras off, Pip Bernadotte gets the drop on her and whacks her with the butt of his rifle. Machine gun? Semiautomatic? I don’t know from guns. He hits her with it, is my point. Then he shoots her with a different gun to put the exclamation point on it.

There’s two other guys left in the Wild Geese, and they toss smoke grenades to cover Pip as he tries to carry Seras to safety, but he’s wounded, and then a Millennium soldier wakes up and shoots him in the thighs. Was that guy playing possum? The Geese take him out, and Pip even makes it back to them, but I’m not sure what good that does anybody. Then Zorin gets back up and cuts him down with her scythe. I don’t think she chops him in half or anything, but he’s not getting back up again, that’s for sure.

Seras calls out to him, and he steals another kiss. I guess he forgot about the last time, because he acts like he “finally” managed to do this. Then he asks Seras to drink his blood, which will allow her to win. I guess someone must have explained enough vampire lore to Pip for him to have figured this out. Maybe Seras herself told him how it worked, which makes it doubly-meaningful for him to say this to her now.

And Seras starts wailing with grief, before Zorin finally mocks her for it, calling Pip an insect. I’ve seen a few people poke fun at this scene, because it’s kind of weird for Zorin to just stand by while Pip and Seras have this final moment together, but Zorin’s a sadist. Much of what she’s done in these past several chapters has been about reveling in her enemies’ suffering. She took her sweet time with Seras earlier, which was the only reason Pip managed to help her, and now she’s taking her sweet time again, like she’s enjoying this drama.

So Zorin uses her psychic whammy again, but this time it doesn’t work on Seras. Maybe because Seras is already in the middle of a terrible trauma in the here and now. She couldn’t do anything to avenge her parents back then, and she was powerless against the Cheddar Priest, but this time? This time she knows exactly what to do.

VENIT AEVUS ILLE, O MESSIAH, O MESSIAH

EN ESE MOMENTO ZORIN BLITZ SINTIO EL VERDADERO TERROR.

So yeah, this rocks. The anime version does this cool thing where all the blood soaks up into her clothes and stains them red. Maybe the manga was going for the same thing, but it’s harder to tell in black and white. I find it kind of strange how Seras’ eyes grow back, but her left arm does not. I’m pretty sure she could reform her arm, but chooses not to. Instead, she’s got this black ectoplasm-y thing, like the same black stuff that Alucard uses when he’s not holding back as much.

Then Seras starts slaughtering Zorin’s men. Didn’t she already kill them all? Yeah, but there’s more. The anime tries to cover for this by having Zorin explain that some “late arrivals” showed up. Well, they did have to enter the building single file to get past the mines, so it makes sense that Zorin would keep some in reserve in case there were more traps inside.

Seras is my favorite character in this whole thing, and since these pages of her kickin’ ass speak for themselves, I guess I’ll talk about why I like her so much. I’m pretty sure I saw a cosplay photo of her on tumblr, and I found the design intriguing. She’s a vampire, but dressed in something like a military uniform, kind of like the “Bridge Bunnies” in Macross. I looked up Seras to find out what she was from, and I was like “Oh, Hellsing was the show Team Four Star has been abridging, I guess I need to watch that anyway so I can watch the Abridged version and get the jokes.”

Mostly, I just like the idea of a vampire with a very professional mentality, as opposed to the whole Lost Boys/What We Do in the Shadows/Buffy kind of aesthetic. Not that there’s anything wrong with that, but we see that sort of thing all the time. I’ve also seen a lot of “reluctant” vampires in my time. Vampires who try to avoid doing any vampire stuff, or going about their business like the vampirism is just this inconvenient obstacle. Hellsing presents this other option, where vampires like Alucard are used for the purpose of anti-vampire countermeasures. He’s been turned into a weapon, but he’s basically just Dracula with a fresh coat of paint. Seras is more firmly rooted in the concept. Alucard was a vampire who became a sort of cop, and Seras is a cop who became a vampire.

And while I liked the idea of Seras being like “Oh, well I didn’t want to be a vampire but I’ll try to make the best of it”, I quickly found out that she wasn’t just a cop with pointy teeth. There’s moments where she can be scary and creepy too. “Sir, yes sir, my Master.” It sums her up very neatly. This is a vampire who can be polite and respectful and professional, but she can also get very deep into the more horrific aspects of this thing. She’s got layers. Zorin Blitz tried to peel them back, and look how that’s working out for her.

Once the rank and file goons are dealt with, Seras goes after Blitz, and just wrecks her shit. Blitz tries to punch Seras in the face and it does nothing. Seras just bites all her fingers off and spits ‘em out. Then she announces that she refuses to drink Zorin’s blood, not a single drop. This is important, because Seras was always reluctant to drink blood. She said she feared that drinking blood would mean the end of something inside of her, but now she’s crossed that Rubicon. One might suspect that she’d suddenly want to drink more blood, but no. She drank Pip’s as a means to an end. Zorin’s blood would serve no higher purpose, and I think there’s an implication that she doesn’t want to dishonor Pip’s sacrifice. Desperate, Zorin tries to use her power on Seras a third time, and then this happens:

Okay, so at first Zorin sees Seras’ memories, like before, but now there’s all this stuff from Pip’s memories, and then Warrant Officer Shrodinger, of all people, shows up. Zorin is confused by this, but he explains that he’s “everywhere and nowhere,” which means he can appear in this psychic vision just as easily as he can teleport between Brazil and England.

Schrodinger is here to pass along a message from the Major. See, Zorin disobeyed his orders, and he would normally punish her for this, but he and the Doctor are busy with a “most interesting toy”, so they’ll just leave it to Seras to take care of punishing Zorin.

Yesterday, I think I figured out what Zorin’s disobedience was. Before I was confused because she didn’t start attacking until Seras opened fire on her blimp, and that only happened because Seras was shooting at the rockets fired by the Major. Everything that Zorin did afterwards could be considered a matter of self-defense, but therein lies the problem. Namely, what was Zorin’s blimp doing in the line of fire to begin with?

Because once Seras shot her down, everything Zorin did next was sort of her only option. She pretty much had to attack the mansion, and brave its defenses, whatever those happened to be. And the Major knew that this was a big unknown. He warned Zorin about Seras Victoria and while he didn’t seem to know exactly what her abilities were, he regarded her as an “arch-enemy” on the same level as Alucard. That’s why he wanted Zorin to hold off and wait for the rocket attack. It was intended to probe the mansion’s defenses, and once it became clear that they had anti-aircraft guns, and that Seras was eagle-eyed enough to shoot down their rockets, then the Major could have ordered Zorin to find a different way.

But instead she was too close and gave Seras a target, which precipitated everything else, up to and including this:

Yeah, Seras just drags Zorin across the walls until her whole head smears apart. Cool!

With Zorin dead, Seras delcares her intention to take the fight to the enemy, and the last three Wild Geese salute her before she leaves. One way or another, they realize that Pip has become a part of Seras now, and they pay their last respects to him through her.

Then Seras flies toward London, using her left arm-thing to make cool bat wings. And this is a good illustration of what Seras is all about. Once, she might have been horrified at the thought of doing something like this, but now she sees it as a way to carry on with her duty. This was what Alucard had been trying to get her to understand, but sometimes you just have to work these things out in your own way. Seras is about utility, and now that she has a use for these vampiric powers, she’s finally prepared to embrace them as her own.

In London, Schrodinger reports back to the Major and informs him of Zorin Blitz’s death. He’s not surprised, and even declares “our ruin has begun”. Schrodinger points out that he’s leading everyone, friend and foe alike, into destruction, and the Major simply observes that this is war. Millennium didn’t come to London to win, they came to London to fight.

Then the Ninth Crusade shows up. Recall that, earlier, Enrico Maxwell organized a military response to deal with the Millennium invasion of London, but he hasn’t come here to save the civilian population. Instead, he’s treating them as enemies, just like the Nazi vampires. Somehow, there’s still living people in the city, and as dawn approaches, they see Maxwell’s helicopters putting off some sort of light show. I don’t know what you call this, but the people on the ground think it’s angels, and then Maxwell orders his men to open fire.

I want to point out that the newly promoted Archbishop Maxwell is riding into this battle in a special truck with a glass box for him to sit in. He’s surrounded by microphones so he can address his troops and the people below. Also the truck is hanging from a helicopter. It’s stupid and pointless and over-the-top, so naturally the Major is highly impressed with Maxwell’s style.

Chapter four: words from beyond

Mekyle paced outside the Infirmary door, Two Claws attached two each wrist. Lean up against the wall was Angelique a bow staff in her hand. “You know you look like a tin solder right.” she sneakers.

“I am on gardduty after all.” he spat back.

“Still pissed at Clary” Angelique asks and right then a blue portal opened and Clary, Simon and, Izzy run into the infirmary almost knocking over Mekyle. “What the?” he stamers out catching his balance.

Inside the Infirmary Ruthie stude next to Jace bed with a new cold towel in her hands. Xander was by the door two chakram straps to each hip. He head to duck out of the way quickly when the door flew open. Magnus was in between the to beds blue flames coming from his hands and a blue light was over Jace and Alec how stell lade in the beds passed out. “We got it!” Clary shouts running in holding up the blood covered arrow. Magnus eyes light up and he grabs the arrow using the top to cut his own hand. Ruthie winses at the site of Magnus blood. Magnus lets the two bloods mix together on the Arrow he then drops it in a bowl that Xander brought over to him. He starts to chant words in Greek as blue flames come from his fingers.

Just then Jace and Alec eyes fly open and they sit up at the same time. They move like robots as they stand together side by side.

“Mag’s you did it” Clary says smiling.

Magnus looks grave “no Biscuit I did not finish my spell.” The two guy look over the room again moving as one in a robot style. Mekyle was by the door his claws raised his parabatai Angelique stands next to him gripping her bow staff. Xander is by Magnus his hands on his chakrams. Ruthie head no weapon but she was ready to fight. Clary, Simon And, Izzy were at the foot of the beds looking at the guys.

“What a motley crew of friends you have Magnus” Jace says but not in his voice. The voice is that’s of Sinira.

“By the angel.” Izzy says covering her mouth.

“No sweetie no angels here.” Jace says with a evil smile.

“Sinira what do you want!” Simon snap seeing as everyone was too shocked to speak.

“Oh little sidekick don’t you worry.” Jace says.

“I say again what do you want!” Simon asks again.

“I want you to shut your mouth little sidekick. I speak to true hero’s only.” Jace snaps. This snaps Clary back to normal.

“Jace What is going on why are you talking like her.” Clary cry’s out.

“Oh dear girl he is not in control I am.” Jace says and looks at Magnus as he lays eyes on him Alec body jerks and there is a flash of glimring light and Magnus stumbles I’m to Clary’s arms bleding. “Alec!” She screams.

“Sinira let them go!” Simon shouts.

“Little sidekick can you please shut up!” Jace barks

“Why do you keep calling him that?” Izzy asks color finally coming back to her.

“That’s what he is Clary little sidekick. Going where ever she needs.” Jace says. Simon gives a huff. Jace eyes fall on Simon and in a blink of an eye Alec punch Simon and sends him flying in to the back wall next to the window.

“Stop this.” Magnus slow says getting his feet.

“Soon I will be done brother.” Jace says as his face twitches like saying the words hurt.

“You see that.” Izzy whispers to Clary. Meanwhile Simon has gotten to his feet and is staring out the window. “All be damned.” Simon says. Alec has attacked Ruthie and she is using a bed pin to fight him off.

“Alec Stop!” Magnus shouts. Alec continues his attack not hearing Magnus words. Ruthie spend kicks Alec and he drops to the floor. Xander jumps in to Alec holding one of his chakram to Alec throat. “No!” Magnus cry’s.

“Soon brother are family will be all together. Me, You, Father and are dear uncle.” Jace says and place a dagger to his own throat.

“No please no!” Clary cries out tears running down her face.

“Hey Sinira!” Simon shouts. Everyone turns to look at him. He was standing by a open window his bow raised a arrow ready to fire out it. A huge grin on his face as he looks down at the ground below. “Sidekick this bitch!” He says and lets the arrow fly. There is a sound of a thud a female vice crying out in pane then the sound of a portal opening and then Jace falls to his knees.

“Kid get off me. I am your Console.” Alec says looking up at Xander. This brought everyone back.

“Huh what?” Xander says looking down at Alec. His eyes go huge and he jumps off Alec. “Sir I am so sorry.”

“Can we not be so loud my head is splitting like if I was listening to Simon old band” Jace says. Clary runs over to him and hugs him.

“Watch it Bro he did just save your life twice. No sidekick could do that.” Izzy says and walks over kissing her husband.

After Clary and Jace send the new recruits on patrol the rest of them meet up in the War room. Jace and Alec looked weak as if they had all the energy pulled out of them.

Magnus was white faced and looked very confused. Clary helped Jace walk into the room as Izzy helped Alec. It was only Simon who walked into the room looking pleased with himself.

“Ok can someone please tell me what just happened?” Jace asks slumping into a chair. Clary sits in the one next to him.

“I just saved your ass oh and Alec’s too.” Simon says with an ear to ear grin.

“Yes babe we know you’re great but I think the bigger question is what did she want?” Izzy asks.

“To hurt me.” Magnus says laying his hand on Alec’s

“That's not all.” Simon says. Everyone turns and looks at him with dumb founded looks on thier faces. “She told us soon their family would be completed. Their dad and uncle would be free.” Simon adds.

“Ok I know Asmodeus, but what is this uncle she was talking about?” Isabella asks.

Magnus sighs. “He’s not exactly Family…” he says with a heavy sigh.

“Ok what? Who is he. I’ve never read of any brother to Asmodeus.” Jace snaps.

“Oh you know of him, very well. He is the morningstar.” Magnus explands.

“Sebastian or Valentine?” Clary choke out.

“No biscuit much older than them.” Magnus says. “The Morningstar.” He adds.

“Lucifer!” Simon blurts out.

Magnus looks over at Simon and nods. “That’s right.”

“Ooh Stringbean you’re on fire today.” Jace chuckles.

“Watch it Blondy.” Simon says waving a finger at Jace.

“If you two are done. I’d like to get back to the point of Lucifer coming.” Clary says glarying at Jace and Simon.

“I am with Clary. How is she planning on freeing him.” Isabelle asks.

Magnus sighs and looks down at the table. “There is only one way I know of.” He says and again let out a heavy sigh. “She must be trying to unlock the six gates.”

“Ok what are they baby?” Alec asks running his hand over Magnus’s hand. Magnus just shrugs. The room is silent for quite some time as everyone looks around. Simon slowly stands up and looks at the room placing his hands flat on the table. “Simon” Alec asks looking at him.

“It looks to me like we need to do some research. Let's all meet in the library with Giles for a researcher party don’t forget to get the jelly donuts.” Simon exclames and turns and walks out of the room.

Clary and Isabelle start to chuckle as the other guys just look on completely baffled. Finally Jace speaks up. “Who is Giles?” Clary and Isabelle completely lose it laughing so hard the double over. “What? What did i say!” Jace demands.

“It's form a TV show.” Clary gets out between laughs.

“It's called Buffy the Vampire Slayer.” Isabelle adds and starts to laugh even harder. “Jace… Blond…. Be…. Buffy.” she stamers out laughing so hard she had tears running down her face.

Jace face goes red as he storms out of the room muttering. “Damn mundane tv!!”

Magnus and Alec exchanges looks and blue fire shoots out onto the table and a plate of Jelly donuts appear. Clary and Isabelle fall to the ground laughing hard. Magnus snorts.

“My Magic is not that funny.” He states and picks up the plate and walks out Alec trailing quickly behind him. Leaving the two girls in there fit of laughter on the floor of the war room.

Once the two girls finally make their way to the library a few of the tables are already covered with books. Alec and Magnus sit at one of them eating the donuts. Simon was sitting at the only desk with a computer.

He looked up as they entered the room. “Cordelia, Willow how nice of you to join us.” He said in his best british accent. The Two girls exchanged looks and smiled.

“Your Cordelia.” Clary says with a giggle.

“Then that makes you the lesbian, Willow.” Isabelle says with a smile and a wink.

“And you’re just my type baby.” Clary says pulling Isabelle into a hug. Magnus and Alec cleared their throats at the same time and the two girls split apart and giggle more. “Sorry not making fun of you guys.” Clary says and looks over the room really taking it in. “Where is Jace?” She asks.

“Don’t know it was just Mags and Alec that showed up.” Simon answered.

“I better go find him. Clary says and turns and heads out the doors.

“You must tell him about our love Willow.” Isabelle yells to Clary.

Clary makes her way down the main hallways of the institute looking for Jace. As she winds the east hall way she can hear the sound of something hitting the punching bag. This would be one of the three places she could find Jace ever. The Library, The Music room. Or like this time in the Training room. As Clary entered the room she could see Jace squared up to the bag. He head changed into a Black tank top and black sweatpants. His face was dripping with sweat and his blond beautiful hair was matted down. A look of concentration was on his face. Clary leaned up against the door frame and watched him punch and kick the bag with the grace of an Angel. She so loved watching him. It has become one of her favorite past times ever since she first saw him. Jace spin kicks the bag and it breaks off the chain that was holding it up and flies across the room. “Damn it not again.” Jace snaps. This brings Clary out of her day dream state.

“Hey hot stuff thought I’d see you in the library.” Clary says throwing him a towel.

Jace catches it and smiles a little. “Nah Stringbean is on it. If anyone can solve this puzzle it's him.”

“Did you just give Simon a compliment.” Clary asks in shock

“Don't you dare tell him.” Jace retorts and grabs his water bottle and takes a big drink. “The Newbees back yet?” he asks. Clary shakes her head no. “Think I will clean up and go see what trouble their in.” He says.

“Want some company?” Clary asks with a smile.

“Na there newbees, I think I can handle them.” he replies

“I was meaning with the cleaning up part.” Clary shoots him a seductive look. Jace smiles big.

“Oh now that I do want help with.” The two grab hands and run off towards their room.

a/n: this was inspired by this - when I watched Seals Team

but then remembered Dg being in NCIS, and since I love old movies, got to watch Top Gun, which then inspired me some more to write this -and well- here is a crossover of sorts- also, since I am a gothic girl - as you know looove vampires and all that genre, I loved Angel and Buffyverse (Angel being my no1 vampire, till he got knocked down by Elijah Mikaelson. LOL), and David Boreanaz is starring in Seals Team, so I borrowed those two characters and put them in this story.

Returning from the Special OP, friends and fellow Seals Special Operatives, Elijah Mikaelson and Angel S. Booth were summoned by their Commanding Officer.

"This must be about Yemen."- Angel said-"they didn't like our alternative method of rescue."

"Well, if it suspension, I am ok" - Elijah said-"I can do with a few days or a week of going down New Orleans." - Elijah said.

"To see your girl, ha?!" - Angel said-"What was her name?"

"Hayley" -Elijah said, continuing-"Talking of women, did you sort things out with Brennan?"

Angel sighed now, remembering the divorce papers he got as he landed back in the US.

"Divorce is still on. And I signed the papers and sent them off earlier. It's over. I have to face it."

"I am sorry, man" - Elijah said.

"It's ok. I have no energy anymore to wallow in it." - Angel said. He now wanted to add something, but they were called in the office.

"At ease, gentleman" - the Commander said-" Lieutenants, I will get straight tp the point. Due to your very imaginative rescue missions, of which we had a few, you were chosen to be part of a Special Hybrid Unit and will be taking a special training course at US Navy Struke Fighter Tactics Instructor Program. Best known to us as Top Gun."

Angel and Elijah looked stunned at the commander.

"Only the best of the best go there. Continue to make us proud."

"When do we report, Sir?"

"You have three days off. You have to report Monday morning. 6:00 sharp. Dismissed, gentleman"

Angel and Elijah saluted and went out.

They were extremely surprised and they could not believe that they were called up for something so extraordinary.

"The best of the best?!" - Angel now said in disbelief sort of.

"Did you ever doubt that we are anything else, not that I am bragging, but we deserved it. Hard work, ingenuity paid off." - Elijah said-"and we got three days-whoooohooo."

"Which means that we will not see any free days for a very long time." - Angel said.

"So I will make sure I got three glorious days with my girl. Ahm - and - I know it's not really appropriate as you just signed your divorce papers, but will you be my best man?" - Elijah asked his friend.

"You proposed to her? When? You didn't tell me. "

"I haven't yet. I am going now to buy a ring and go down there and propose. Get a special licence, if not, then, we can get married the first free day I get. I want her with me."

"Right. I will be your best man." - Angel said.

And so, the men got the first plane out to New Orleans.

And down in New Orleans, Elijah got the same blow as Angel. Well, sort of the same.

Coming down to Hayley's house, he found a man opening the door. And when Elijah asked if he could speak to Hayley, the man said-

"What is it about? My wife is not at home. Can I help you? "

"Your wife?" - Elijah was gobsmacked.

"Yes, my wife. Hayley Marshall-Kenner. I am Jackson Kenner, her husband."

"Come on, man" - Angel, who stood next to Elijah now put his hand on his friend's shoulder and said-"Let's go."

"Yeah. Ahm- nothing-Sorry, I bothered you." - Elijah said feeling like someone punched him really hard in the gut.

Angel now kind of nudged again to his friend to leave and they both got in the car. Angel sat in the driver's seat as Elijah was completely lost.

"Keys!" - Angel said.

Elijah got the keys out of his picket, still kind of numb, like he was not able to process what just had happened.

"Bourbon Street?" - Angel suggested.

Elijah just nodded looking straight, trying to make his heart not explode from pain. After a night of a lot of Bourbon to totally numb the heartache and let out steam, both men flew to their new station to San Diego, a two days before planned.

Getting out of the plane, Angel asked Elijah-

"Ready for new adventure? New life? Letting go of the past?!"

"So fucking ready."- Elijah said.

As they still didn't have to report for duty, and having settled in their new abode, they went to have two more days of fun.

Elijah and Angel had no problem making friends or making the party going on, and ending up at a bar, they quickly got the crowd going.

Trying hard to get on and quick the heartbreak, goofying around a bit with the karaoke, Elijah took the microphone and Angel always knew which song to find.

As the song started, Elijah got ready, and getting into the song, seeing a woman at the bar turn catching his eye he now went to her.

Angel rolled his eyes a bit, but he just let him go for it.

Y/N/E laughed, feeling embarrased but flattered in a way. Elijah continued, fully in the role.

As Elijah finished and everyone in the bar clapped, Y/N/E said-

"Well, you picked a good one. It’s actually one of my favs.”

"Ahh, can't take credit for this one. Angel picks them."- Elijah now showed to his friend who was talking to a woman.

"Angel? Interesting name.”- Y/N/E said.

"I am Maverick." - Elijah said.

"You're kidding, right?"

"Nah, well, it's my cool name. I am Elijah."

"Two guys with two cool names. Pilots, right?"

"No. Seals, actually. Can I buy you a drink."

"Maybe some other time." - Y/N/E said as a man now approached them.

"Ready?" - the man said.

"Yeah" - Y/N/E replied, turning to Elijah saying-"See you around, ‘Maverick -Elijah'

“Hey and your name?”

“Y/N/E”

The brunette/blonde then went with the guy, and Elijah looked after them. As Angel joined him, he said -

"If I didn't know better, I'd say you're lost your heart already."

"Nah. No more falling in love."- Elijah said.

"Right. Just casual stuff then? Well, it looks like she has a boyfriend."

"Yeah" - Elijah said, his heart flattering unusually at the thought of Y/N/E.

"Who did you talk to? '

" It' s Commander Salvatore's wife. We are invited to a barbecue thing tomorrow night at his house. "

"Ok. Game of darts?" - Elijah sugfested.

"Yeah, go on."

"What's up, you're a bit weird" - Elijah said as the got a couple of beers and went to the darts board area.

"I just found out that the tactics instructor is Buffy Summers." - Angel said.

"You're kidding me? Your Buffy? Buffy, the one you broke up with when you went to Washington?

" The one. "- Angel replied.

" Oh, man. So much about new life, new leaf. "- Elijah said.

Angel sighed and took a swag of beer.

The past seemed to came rolling back in at least when he was concerned.

In the car, Y/NE thought of the Seals Officer she had just met.

"Who was that?" - Damon asked.

"The new Seals guys."- Y/N/E answered.

"Ok. So, shall we go and eat something before we go to the cemetery?"

"Yeah, sure." - Y/N/E said-"Also need to get flowers for it. I can't believe it's been two years since his death."

"Yeah" - Damon said.

Not longer after Y/N/E and Damon put the flowers down on the grave of Stefan Salvatore.

"Hey you" - Y/N/E said placing a kiss on the name-"crazy to say it- but happy birthday. Miss you still so much."

Damon sighed a little. His brother was gone two years and a month now, and it seemed like it was yesterday, and at times it felt like it was eternity.

Arranging the flowers a bit, Y/N/E now flashed back

Two years previously

Damon knocked a little at the door frame of Y/N/E and Stefan's bedroom of the Salvatore house, before he entered.

"Hey" - Damon said.

Y/N/E was going through her clothes in obvious total distress.

"I don't have anything to wear for the funeral. Nothing black - damn -" she now burst out crying and turning to Damon continued- "I was supposed to be wearing a wedding dress. We were supposed to get married in August.

Damon stood there feeling her sister-in-law to be, sharing her pain.

"I know. He was so -"

"How will I go on? I can't - I just - don't want to - hate the army- hate everything- I want him back, Damon. Please, bring him back-"

"Oh, Y/N/E -"

"Bye" - Y/N/E slipped as she placed a kiss with her hand on the stone.

Damon and her now walked back to the car.

"So, how does it feel to be back, in general?"

"Kind of weird. It's like I've been gone a hundred years. Ok. Can we talk about you and Kai and how did it happen?"

"It's a long story."- Damon said.

"I want to hear it. Everything. Especially about the rain kiss! "- Y/N/E said.

"Caroline told you!"

"Yep! Come on. I want to hear everything."

Damon now told her some, but this was Caroline's version as she saw Damon finally his feelings to Kai.

"I am so happy for you, Damon."- Y/N/E said-"Kai is a great guy. How did you dad take it?"

"He didn't. There is no change. The idea that I am with a man still repulses him. He wished I was dead and not Stefan. "- Damon said.

"Oh, Damon. I am sorry. That means that Lily is still between the hard and the rock place?!" - Y/N/E remarked.

"Yep."- Damon said-"I am happy, but she is not and I hate that she has to juggle between us. She left him for a while, but then she got back when he ended up in hospital with the heart scare."

"I wish things got better." - Y/N/E said.

"Anyway, you are kind of a big shot now if Pentagon sent you to do this new program" - Damon said.

"I am not. I am just an instructor really."- Y/NE said.

"Just an instructor? This is Top Gun! Only the best are here."

"The program is unique and kind of experimental. I hope it works."

"Did you see the F-18?"

"I helped construct it Damon! Of course I've seen it. Working on a better improved version. " - Y/N/E said.

"Like I said, you are a real big shot."- Damon said.

His phone rang and seeing it was Kai, he swiped the call answering-

"Hey, babe, where are you?"

"I got pizza. When are you home?" - Kai asked.

"Heading home. Y/N/E is with me. I kinda invited her to eat with us. Say hi" - Damon now put the loudspeaker on.

Kai and Y/N/E now exchanged heys.

Soon, as they got to Damon's apartment, Kai gave Y/N/E a warm hug hello.

"It's good to have you back." - Kai said to the brunette.

"I am glad to be back. Seeing you two together, really makes it worth being back. Love conquers all." - Y/N/E’s eyes watered a bit-"ok, I won't be sad."

"You are allowed. We miss him, too."- Kai said.

"Yeah - ok-" - Damon said-"let's toast to Stefan and love. May Y/N/E find love again."- Damon said.

"Oh, Damon please." - Y/N/E said taking the glass of Tequila he had poured.

"Stefan would wanted you to find love again."- Kai said taking a glass of the drink from his boyfriend.

"I know, but - I just - can't think about that-got a new plane to think about"

Kai didn't quite understand.

"Y/N/E is working on a new Fighter plane." - Damon explained.

"Wow!" - Kai said.

"Told you. She is not jus a pretty face." - Damon said.

"Enough you guys. Ok. To Stefan."- Y/N/E raised her glass and so did Kai and Damon. 🚫

Elsewhere,

Elijah and Angel had dinner at a small diner. And later headed back to the dorms. Both went to their respective rooms, both still very much in thoughts about the past.

Elijah trying to get the grips of how Hayley just went and got married. He now thought of the last time he was with her before he was deployed to the Middle East. And no matter how much he tried to find answers, nothing made sense. Did she ever loved him? He asked himself now. But like Angel had said - can't wallow in it, she obviously chose another guy, and married him- Elijah closed his eyes and his mind wondered to the woman he had sort of sang to.

"Y/N/E" - he slipped and smiled a little.

💕In the room next door, Angel revisited his heart. Eversince he heard that Buffy Summers, his first love was onw of the instructors of the program, he could not stop thinking about her, taking him back ten years previously, when he came to her the night before leaving to Washington to join the FBI. But the break up was not as simple as he had told Elijah. He had not told him that he had gone to Buffy's wedding to tell her that he had made a huge mistake to have let her go.

🚫 At the same time, Buffy Summers now entered the house she has rented.

Putting her bag on the chair, she went straight in the kitchen and got a bottle of red wine out and poured herself a glass. Earlier at a briefing, she has found out that Angel Seeley Booth was chosen for the program.

She thought she didn't care anymore. She thought that it would not stir her, but driving back home, strangely the smallest of butterflies bubbled up.

Buffy slumped down on the sofa, and flashed back to the past.

Monday morning came and all respective parties were in the classroom. The Seargent now introduced two instructors -

"Now you will also be trained and evaluated by a few civial specialist as well as military instructors. One of them is our tech rep, code name Sunny. She has PhD in astrophysics, aerospace engineering. She is a civilian contractor and you don't need to salute her, but you better listen to her, because the Pentangon does. And if you don't pass her evaluation, you can lose your post. Sunny, was one of the constructors of the hybrid F-18. She will tell you all about the fighter plane. Sunny, it's all yours."

Y/N/E now came in from the side room, and Elijah looked at the brunette like he had just entered a strange kind of dream world.

Y/N/E greeted everyone present now immediately going into the presentation mode. She was serious, eloquent, and it was very clear to everyone that she knew what she was talking about.

Finishing the lecture for the day, on her way out, Elijah followed her and catching up with her said-

"You could have given me a fair warning."

"About what, Lieutenant Mikaelson?" - Y/N/E said raising an eyebrow.

"You could have told me that you are - who you are"

"You didn't give me much time."- Y/N/E said-"But if you can fly as good as you can sing, I just might give you a good evaluation."

"Oh, I can fly. I flew Mig 40. out of Afghanistan."-Elijah now said.

"That was you?" - Y/N/E was now surprised to hear it.

"Yep. That was me."- Elijah confirmed.

"Really? This is not one of those things to splash your charm out again?"

"No. But, all the info is classified." - Elijah said.

"You are kidding me, right?" - Y/N/E now showed Elijah one of the badges that showed him that she had access to all classified information-"I read all about the intel on it. But - I have questions about it."

"Ok. I can tell you about it first hand, but - if you agree to - coffee?"

"I knew this was one of those things."

"One of what things? It's just a harmless invitaton to have a cup of coffee." - Elijah said.

"Harmless?" - Y/N/E said with a smirk saying yeah, right.

"Completely." - Elijah replied with a charming smile.

Y/N/E's phone now rang and she said this to Elijah before picking up -

"I will get back to you, Lt."

She answered the call and walked away.

Elijah smiled dreamily looking at her until she got into her 1963 Porsche, and drove off.

Oh, man, what did he do to deserve this. Why did she have to be his instructor. This is going to be so complicated, his heart murmured.

Something Blue

This looks exciting! I’ve got a comedy episode, then one of the most acclaimed episodes of Buffy, back to back! And, in between, a well-regarded episode of Angel too! I’m happy! 1. A very sad Willow opens our episode, after we’re reminded about Oz leaving and Spike getting chipped. She has an Oz-shirt and is full of sadness. 2. Riley is hanging up a Lesbian Alliance banner. Good on him! 3. Riley is asking Buffy out for a picnic. He’s been practicing to do so. 4. “Have you seen his arms? Those are… good arms to have.” 5. “I really like being around him… but I feel like something’s missing.” “He’s not making you miserable?” “Exactly.” You know, there are people out there who are neither Darkness McBroodmuffin nor Sir White Breadington, Buffy. 6. “Seeing Angel in LA, even for five minutes… hello to the pain.” 7. “I keep thinking… isn’t that where the fire comes from? Can a nice, safe relationship be that intense?” Yes. 8. “I know it’s nuts, but part of me believes that real love and passion have to go hand in hand with pain and fighting.” *nonchalantly stakes vampire* “I wonder where I get that from?” I think at least in part from your mother, who intersperses expressions of love with drowning you in emotional hurt. And has tried to burn you at the stake. And throw you out of the house. 9. Giles is giving Spike his blood in a Kiss the Librarian mug and it’s amazing. 10. So’s Spike drinking blood through a straw. 11. “Giles, help! He’s going to scold me!” The show loves beating on Spike and is so funny doing it. 12. “Giles, make her stop!” “If those two don’t kill each other, I might lend a hand.” 13. Willow’s going to cast a truth spell on Spike tomorrow. 14. Spike knows how badly Willow is hurting better than Buffy or Giles does. 15. Oz sent for his stuff. He’s left for good. Willow is an absolute mess. 16. Giles wants to get the spell cast, but Spike wants to watch Passions and Willow isn’t there yet. 17. Buffy is not able to drive. Riley is being romantic talking about cars. 18. “We are talking about driving, right?” “I thought I was.” 19. Riley invited Willow over to eat. Willow is looking at the aples turning brown. 20. Xander is at the Bronze with Anya and Buffy. Anya wants to liquefy Oz’s entrails. 21. Willow is dancing. But she knocked down a beer. She’s drunk. 22. Buffy is bringing up her experience with beer, but Willow’s beer isn’t evil. 23. Willow wants to make her pain go poof. That has never worked well for people. 24. And Amy’s a rat to remind us of that. 25. Willow is going through her magic supplies. Yep, gonna make it go poof. Willlllooooowwwww… 26. Big light show for her spell! 27. But it doesn’t seem to have worked. She’s willing things to happen and they’re not. 28. Giles is checking on Willow. Because she forgot. “I did the research, and I picked up the motherwort, I just forgot to do the spell.” 29. Giles is worried about Willow’s do-my-will spell. At least Willow told him about it. 30. And Willow just blinded Giles. He can’t see. Stumbling out of the room and running into people in the hallway. 31. He can see. Just not well, it looks like. 32. Spike just got a key. He’s escaped. 33. “If I had any real power, I could have made Oz stay with me.” Umm… 34. Willow just de-ratted and re-ratted Amy. 35. Buffy is going to catch Spike. But Willow doesn’t want her to be gone. So she put Spike right where Buffy is going. 36. Now Spike is tearing up the landscaping looking for the entrance to the lab. 37. Buffy and Spike are at Giles’s house. Buffy wants to kill Spike. Willow is at Xander’s basement, and just suggested that if Spike is so important to Buffy she should just marry him. 38. And Spike is proposing. Buffy said yes. They’re kissing. in Giles’s living room. Giles can’t believe his malfunctioning eyes. Spike gave her one of his rings. 39. “You’re a demon magnet.” -Willow to Xander. This is going to be a problem. 40. Buffy is serving Spike blood and sitting in his lap and talking about wedding plans. “Mr. and Mrs. Pile of Dust.” 41. “Giles, did you see my ring?” “Thankfully, not very well.” 42. Buffy’s being sweet to Giles. Asking him to give her away. 43. Oh god Giles is going to die. He’s all the way blind now. 44. Wait, Spike knows about magic. And is going to help Giles. “It’s all right. I have more scotch.” 45. Buffy is going to the magic shop. But she’s distracted by a wedding dress. And look, it’s Riley! 46. She just told Riley she’s getting married. Riley is very confused. 47. Riley is VERY confused. “But…” “No. Stay.” 48. “The fruit roll-ups of love.” Eep, Xander. But Anya is kissing you anyway because she really likes you and really likes sex. 49. And there’s a demon in the basement. It threw Xander at a workbench. And is threatening Anya. Anya knows you kill it by drowning. But there’s another demon coming through the window 50. Buffy is back at Giles’s house. Giles can hear the smacking. The magic shop was out of taggis root, so Spike can’t reverse the spell on Giles. 51. “Do you want to be William the Bloody or just Spike?” 52. “Stop whatever you’re doing. You smell like Fruit Roll-Ups.” I don’t believe Giles has ever eaten a Fruit Roll-Up. 53. “This is the crack team that foils my every plan? I am deeply shamed.” 54. “Spike and I are getting married!” “How? What? How?” “Three excellent questions.” 55. Xander: “Can I be blind too?” 56. Xander figured out what’s going on, because he had the information to do so. Spike took him off the usher list. 57. Giles fell down. And Willow is being attacked by a demon that grabbed her head. 58. Willow was kidnapped by D’hoffryn. He opened a portal that ruined Buffy’s carpet. 59. He made Anya a demon. Now he’s offering to make Willow one too. 60. Xander’s demons caught up with them. 61. So many demons! 62. Anya is summoning D’hoffryn. D’hoffryn told Willow she hurt her friends. 63. Anya is having a hard time remembering the ritual. 64. Now the demons are attacking Buffy and Anya and Giles and Spike in the crypt. It’s not a good place to be fighting lots of demons. 65. Heh. D’hoffryn offered Willow a job. She turned it down. He made sure she has a way to keep in touch in case she changes her mind. 66. “If you change your mind, give us a chant.” 67. Spike and Buffy are kissing while a demon tries to kill Anya and Xander. But Willow is back, and broke the spell, which vanished the demon and now Buffy and Spike are looking at each other in terror. 68. “Ugh! Spike lips! Lips of Spike!” 69. Willow is making a million apology cookies and has to detail Giles’s car. Giles does wish she’d given him 20/20 vision. 70. “You’re a pig, Spike.” “Yeah. Well, I’m not the one who wanted Wind Beneath My Wings for our song.” 71. Spike gets a cookie. 72. “I’d be happy to be in a nice relationship with a decent, nice, relia… oh my god Riley he thinks I’m engaged!” 73. Riley thinks Buffy’s insane and they’re both okay with that. Overall: I’m not really sure what to say here. A problematic premise that has already been used too many times (person has relatively simple problem that could be solved, if painfully, through a liberal application of time and chocolate, but uses a spell that goes awry and overrides the will of those around them instead) turns into an episode of TV with a ton of great performances. Buffy and Spike are particularly great here, though Giles’s wry commentary helps make it work. They’re going to keep going to that well, though, and that’s a problem.
