hi popo! i was wondering, do the bungo stray dogs stage play dvds have english subtitles?? after watching the storm bringer stream, i really want to watch the other stage plays now!! :-)

No they don’t… They are all Japanese only. But if u have read the novels and mangas in English then except for Dead Apple stage plays (which Asagiri has rewritten a lot of parts), I think u will be able to know what is going on because the stage plays follow the manga and novels very closely. The stages are all amazing and I totally recommend buying the DVD to support the series if your budget allows. All DVDs also came with behind the scenes video which are really interesting too.

BSD Details at the Talk Show

Many were complaining (non skk fans) that Fifteen should have been OVA and not be part of S3. Now, the staffs confessed that the main point of animating Fifteen is that it helps build the world of Bungo Stray Dogs. By connecting the past and the present, it develops a deeper understanding of the characters, and also shows how the beloved city that Atsushi and everyone are now protecting came to be.

If its still confusing, this is how I understand: In other words, Dazai and Chuuya were the ones who started the story of Bungo Stray Dogs (not literally but their paths what led them to makin the present such as Dazai recruiting Akutagawa and taking in Atsushi, Chuuya as the half Soukoku, that led Dazai to think that Aku needs a partner as well) and let us not forget that Dazai is protecting the city and Chuuya at the same time during their mafia days by nullifying Corruption.

Animating Fifteen was planned to be a surprise to the fans, though a few days before the airing they learned that the information got leaked over twitter. This also happened back then with Dark Era, and Producer Kurakane shares that she was called by her boss regarding the incident. It went like, “This is the second time it failed, don’t you think there is no point in making it a surprise?”

I feel saddened by this because they were really going to surprise us but it failed, not once but twice already. Not revealing it to us before the show and by making it a surprise for us means Bones and Asagiri sensei really love and wanted to thank us so much 😭💕

She said this just gave her the motivation to try harder to prevent the secret from getting spoiled next time.

This is why I love Bones so much ❤️❤️

They thought it'd be hard but when they heard Mamo and Kishou doing the recording, it really gave them the feeling of how young Dazai and Chuuya were, and that these two really had a history. Furthermore, Randou only appeared in this arc but Uchida's acting was really memorable

They think 15 Dazai is different to today's Dazai, with 15 Dazai being really dark and wanting to die for real.

This is why Mamo and Kishou are the perfect voice actors for Dazai and Chuuya 😭💕✨ they really brought their characters to real life. Like I mean, Dazai really sounded different when i watched Ep1-Ep3 yet idk why some says Dazai didnt change. Its better to look into detail. Also, Chuuya really have the most change that you wouldnt even recognize him as a port mafia yet but a kid who handles an org and just wanted to know who or what he is.

From 15 to his present height, Chuuya only grows 5cm. He kept on saying, "I'll still grow!" but we, staff and fans, couldn't resist saying, "No, you won't" deep inside

... 5cm...? I cant believe Dazai’s curse worked 😂 and the staffs are even pointing out to Chuuya that he will never grow 💔✨

The staff was particularly glad seeing the last scene getting animated, as it came from the original manga. The art, especially with the stained glass, was also remarkable.

Okay i gotta confess, when they said “last scene” the first thing that came to my mind was Dazai and Chuuya holding hands 😂🔫 like ‘oh wait lol thats not it! Its that purple glass and crossing paths’ okaay..... im way too much lol

They also talked about the 3rd season’s OP and ED. Unlike the 1st and 2nd seasons’, the OP and ED for 3rd season were specifically made to serve as a message of thanks to the fans.

Ok so this is what we have been waiting for. And tbh im glad that i didnt hate the OP & ED. I didnt really hate it, instead I just wanted to know WHY they did it like a curious tiger. But—

Instead of appealing to new fans of BSD, these OP and ED were made to express gratitude to the fans who have been here together with BSD’s journey. The scenes were meaningfully chosen rand show what the characters have been through.

The truth behind why the new OP & ED scenes were reused. I am now satisfied to hear this truth and have no complains. Tbh, the scenes were really reused in a good way and there were on timing so it made more impact the OP & ED. So Bones really had everything planned out, I mean they are not the type of people to just throw away everything. Just like Asagiri-sensei, they put meanins and symbolism into their animation and not because they were on low budget (ok about the low budget thing somebody mentioned and I HAVE NO IDEA why they said it bcuz how can they be in low budget when BSD got S3, stage play and Dead Apple?!). Bones really is an amazing staff 😭✨ i keep loving them more and more!! PLEASE LET HS SUPPORT THEM 💕✨

Producer Kurakane was particularly emotional with the ED and says that she tends to tear up watching it. She also pointed out that Atsushi and Akutagawa were singing in the ED.

Ahhh the crying/sad scenes in ED 🙃💔 this scene really surprised especially it played in the chorus part. I love when Atsushi and Aku sang the ED in the end 😭 basically the trans they said is “What do I have? What can I do?” I can feel the feels of Shin-Soukoku partners here 😌❤️ (trans credit to bungo wikia)

The staff is really grateful to the fans’ love and support, and they are really happy that BSD did not only end with one season of 12 episodes, but is now continuing with the 3rd season, movie and the stage play. Just like Dead Apple, treat season 3 as their present.

Bungo Stray Dogs Dead Apple Stage Nico Live Special

Aja shared & translated a few bits from the BSD DEAD APPLE Stage Live Special yesterday. Here’re what she wrote below:

Asagiri wrote the script! When the cast first learned about this, they were so surprised some of them were left speechless. It’s not a common thing for the original mangaka/novelist to get very involved in plays.

It is better to think of the Dead Apple Stage not as the adaptation of the original movie, but rather as a new version of Dead Apple. The Stage story is made to fit the cast which only consists of 7 characters, and may touch on some things unknown yet to DA 3 yrs ago.

Since there are fewer characters for this stage, the story would delve deeper on each individual, showing the "brilliance of their life force". (you know referring to that Shibusawa line 'seimei no kagayaki')

There will be scenes not seen in the movie that were created for Dead Apple Stage. For example, while Akutagawa and Chuuya doesn't interact that much in the movie/manga/novels, the Stage would have more scenes of them together.

Congratulations on the announcement of Bungou Stray Dogs: BEAST movie! Hashimoto Shohei (Akutagawa Ryunosuke) and Torigoe Yuuki (Nakajima Atsushi) have already confirmed they will reprise their roles for the project. In addition, The Founding of the Armed Detective Agency and Dazai's Entrance Exam will also get stage play adaptations later this year. DEAD APPLE will get its own stage in 2021.

Watch Bungo Stray Dogs BEAST Live-action Film Full Trailer Featuring Theme Song by GRANRODEO

    The official website for Bungo Stray Dogs the Movie BEAST, the first live-action film inspired by the Bungo Stray Dogs manga series created by Kafka Asagiri (story) and Sango Harukawa (arts), has posted a poster visual and a 90-second full trailer featuring its theme song "Tokei Mawari no Torque" (Clockwise Torque) performed by the two-member unit GRANRODEO.

    GRANRODEO previously performed the OP themes for the first and third seasons of the Bungo Stray Dogs TV anime series in 2016 and 2019, as well as the theme song for the anime feature film Bungo Stray Dogs - Dead Apple in 2018. And its vocalist KISHOW/Kisho Taniyama has voiced Chuya Nakahara, one of the main characters in the anime series.

  KISHOW says, "It's amazing that BunSto is finally getting a live-action movie! Thank you for favoring GRANRODEO again! (laughs). I wanted to create an abstract atmosphere with the lyrics, so I hope the song and the listeners will be able to interpret them in their own way. I'm a fan of Chuya (laughs), so go for it--!" And the unit's guitarist e-ZUKA/Masaaki Iizuka adds, "I'm glad to be able to participate in the BunSto franchise for the fourth time! This time, I tried to express the contrast between righteousness and evil are swapped in the song. I think we were able to create an interesting song unique to the movie version. I hope you like it!" The song will be available digitally on the film's release day in Japan, January 7, 2022.

Sharing some bullet points that the staff talked about in the event:

Talks of having season 3 started around the time of the post-recording of Dead Apple. At that time, Fifteen had not been released so ofc it was not under consideration yet.

As has been revealed before, Asagiri-sensei was tasked to do only a 50-page bonus for the Dead Apple movie. He finished Fifteen first, and it ended up three times longer than what was asked, and though was really sorry about it, cannot make it shorter and turns out he is not actually good with writing short stories. BEAST even got longer than Fifteen, but in the end as the stories were really good, the bonuses were still given away as they are, now thick as books.

They started considering animating Fifteen when the 'higher-ups' (as in sensei, producers, scriptwriter, etc.) had a meeting together. In the end, scriptwriter Enokido wrote a draft which everybody liked.

The main point of animating Fifteen is that it helps build the world of Bungo Stray Dogs. By connecting the past and the present, it develops a deeper understanding of the characters, and also shows how the beloved city that Atsushi and the characters are now protecting came to be. Fifteen also showed the connection with the other canon material with Suribachi City, and Mukurotoride (Shibusawa’s base) in the background.

Animating Fifteen was planned to be a surprise to the fans, though a few days before the airing they learned that the information got leaked over twitter. This also happened back then with Dark Era, and Producer Kurakane shares that she was called by her boss regarding the incident. —After 『Bungo Stray Dogs DEAD APPLE』, that was released on March 2018, the airing of the third season has finally begun. What were your feelings when the production of a third season was decided? Also, what did Harukawa-sensei expected of this third season? I don’t really remember the moment when it was decided to produce the third season, I’m so sorry. But maybe I kinda said 「It’s decided then! 」when they announced it? Although I always felt the atmosphere of the staff was of wanting to do the third season, so it probably wasn’t really a surprise the sequel was decided and I was glad that the staff didn’t change for the third season. What I expected was that the audience was amused and satisfied by watching it. — It was a surprise that the season begun with 「Dazai, Chuya, Fifteen」 (Episode 26), where it shows how Dazai Osamu and Nakahara Chuya met each other and ended in the Port Mafia. How do you feel about those episodes? It’s the staff that’s into surprises, so it’s something that the fans will most likely guess will happen again. To me, being able to have the visual image of a novel I haven’t drawn, it’s a very pleasant experience (to watch it). I was hoping to see it on air. —「Dazai, Chuya, Fifteen」 is a light novel that was originally distributed as an attendance bonus for the second week of release of the film 『Bungo Stray Dogs DEAD APPLE 』 . Please, Harukawa-sensei, tell us about your favorite scenes of the novel, the written and animated ones, and your reasons. It goes really back into the story, but when the three people in charge were at the meeting to decide the origin of Chuuya, Asagiri said 「I want him to be a demon」. At that point I was thinking「What is the point of him being a demon?」, and it was a good thing that I had the chance of doing something I wanted to do, because that way we got to decide how to approach how he came to exist in this world. My favorite scene was when that scene from Vol. 8 of the comic is reproduced, I felt deeply emotional when I drew it. 

—This time, Harukawa-sensei told me that she was in charge of the preview version of fifteen years-old Nakahara Chuya. Please tell us on what did you focus on when you drew it, the details, favorite points, etc.

Since Chuya didn’t wear black, he was described like this in the novel 『The dark green biker jacket like a rooster in the middle of the dark』, was it because the base was black and it looks green under the light? I checked it and thought that there was a reason for the jacket to not be clearly black, because he needs to wear an all black outfit after joining Port Mafia. 

—Another light novel given as a bonus on the screening of Bungo Stray Dogs DEAD APPLE was 「Bungo Stray Dogs BEAST, White Akutagawa, Black Atsushi」 and now the complete version was released, where Akutagawa is part of the Armed Detective Agency. Please tell us your thoughts when you read this work that is a parallel universe where Atsushi belongs to the Port Mafia. Als, the cover illustrations and the illustrations inside the novel show that the appearances of Atsushi and Akutagawa have different atmospheres. Please tell us what did you focus on when drawing the illustrations and how did you configure the characters on this work.

I didn’t want to make the characters profile for all of the characters, but I drew each illustration thinking about the black part of every white part and the white part of every black part (of every character, of course). even the eyes of Akutagawa were slightly changed to include some light on them, but Asagiri-san said 「I don’t want them to be white」, and in the original bonus of DEAD APPLE, 「White Akutagawa, Black Atsushi」, there was a subtitle describing the coat of Akutagawa was like「ash」, so I thought it would be fun to give it a meaning carefully.

—The release date for the next Vol. 17 of the manga is scheduled for May 2. What do you think about being able to draw the work so far? The story is getting more and more intense, but what else is yet to come?

I think that the most surprising thing so far for the readers is the thing about Tachihara-kun. I always wanted him to be the center of attention and I’m happy that he’s finally getting to play such an active role. The editor in charge seemed to be also very moved by this feeling, he said 「Tachihara-kun came to be drawn like this...」, of course there was also the sensation that it was going to be complicated, so there was an exchange like 「I don’t think  that’s the point for the readers」. As for the future, we still have a long way to go, but I hope you will continue to look forward to it because there are some personally happy scenes.
