People's Need to Complain
People get on me for being dour and depressed, but you know what, I don’t really feel all that concerned about it. Especially when I see online videos that are rather wholesome and positive, and then you look at the comments and there are a ton of people feeling the need to bitch about it. People’s obsessive need to bitch about everything is bizarre, to me. People claim that I hate everything,…

Burnt Ends - Went with Too High Expectations
When the friend texted she got us a slot at Burnt Ends, we jumped onto the opportunity since everytime we tried to make a reservation, it seemed like there’s just no slots. Lol. But well luck would have it, we finally made it down one day for lunch
Located at Dempsey, there was no visible signboard but I guess if you know where it is, you would know where it is. We were one of the first few to…

The one for Kansas City is pretty interesting, because I found a citation from 1996, a New York Times Magazine article, "Geography of Taste," that mentions sauerkraut and Swiss cheese for KC dogs. Further research told me the baseball stadium there, Kauffman, also used to serve hot dogs like that. Today? Apparently their “stadium dog” has “All Beef Hot Dog, Red Pepper Relish, Sauerkraut, Grain Mustard on a Butter Grilled Roll.” So that citation is not as true today.
I looked up hot dog restaurants in the area, and similarly to my posts for Denver and Memphis, searched for any kind of “local” hot dogs:
Burger Joint has a Kansas City BBQ dog with BBQ sauce and coleslaw.
Chunky Butters has a Reuben dog with sauerkraut, Swiss and Thousand Island. Pretty close. Their house hot dog also has BBQ sauce, onions, cheddar cheese and “secret sauce.”
Wiener Kitchen has a KC dog with Swiss cheese, brussels kraut, and mustard. Also close.
Up Dog has a Missouri dog with pickle, bacon, cheddar cheese, and mustard.
Overall, it’s a closer consensus than Denver’s was, but I wouldn’t say it’s total. A radio station in Kansas City also asked around and the general consensus was, “it should have BBQ sauce, maybe some fried onions.” So the 1996 citation isn’t quite as true today.
I made two variations: the one as shown in the chart (with some mustard added later, since that won 2 over 1 for Thousand Island and 1 for BBQ sauce in local restaurants). Then I made one with BBQ sauce and burnt ends from a local BBQ restaurant.
Here's the chart version:
I think Chunky Butters has the right idea with adding Thousand Island to theirs - this really needs some kind of sauce. Mustard improved this but other than that it was just fine.
And here's the modern idea of what it should be now:
As Cleveland taught me, hard to go wrong with BBQ on a hot dog.
