Where is Everybody?

Hello there! So, this post here is gonna be a doozy, but I need to get some things off my chest and hopefully, I can get some answers at the end of the day.

For the last few months, I’ve noticed a significant downtick in interactions on here. And it’s not just for my blog, quite a few of my moots seem to going through the same issue as well.

On top of that, the ever-present issue of liking over reblogging seems to have just gotten worse.

The main question I want to ask is why?

I know the holidays are a busy time for many people, but compared to last year when I joined, it almost feels like a ghost town. I ask if people want to see teasers or graphics I made and out of the significant amount of followers, I only get a handful interacting, many of them my moots (ily guys so much and appreciate you mwah 💋)

I was letting it slide until I saw the amount of notes Offsite Services has been getting. Mind you, it’s a drabble collection based off of Fanservice, which judging by notes, is one of my most infamous works. Here’s a comparison:

Fanservice: 1,877 notes

Offsite Services: 180 notes with Up Close and Personal having 242 notes while “Bear” with Me only has 111 notes

You see what I mean? Offsite Services only has just under 10% of Fanservice’s notes. And they’re in the same series!

It’s bothering me because so many people for months have been asking for updates for this series. Now that I started it back up, it’s practically radio silence and it’s highly discouraging. It definitely cemented my decision to work on whatever speaks to me at the moment and not try to rush things out, only for it to get little recognition.

And to get back to the likes/reblogs issue, lately, it’s seemed like it’s worsened these last couple of months. I know there’s a lot of users who shifted here from Twitter thanks to the madness that’s been going on, but you need to understand something:

Likes do not spread our work around.

Works can get buried within tags, especially if they don’t have a large amount of notes, which makes it harder to get recognition. By reblogging, it introduces our fics to a wider audience, even if you only have a handful of followers. Believe me, it helps!

And feedback is always helpful as well! You don’t even have to write a full essay, something along the lines of ‘thank you for writing this!’ or ‘wiofwoihih this was SO GOOD’ is highly appreciated.

Also, my ask box is always open, for anons and non-anons. If you want to talk about something or just say hi or discuss a fic or WIP, don’t be shy! I might not respond right away, but that’s because I’m busy or at work. I only won’t respond if it’s a request (REQUESTS ARE CLOSED INDEFINITELY)  or someone demanding I update a fic (which hasn’t happened yet, thank God).

I don’t want to drag this on much longer, so I want to just cap this off by asking again why there’s less people interacting lately. These are the answers I came up with:

1. BTS’ hiatus (which doesn’t make sense to me because now would be the best time to catch up on fan content but 🤷🏾‍♀️)

2. Taking a break from Tumblr

3. Not enough time to read

Again, these are only my theories, but I won’t know for sure unless you guys tell me. If you know the reason why and would like to tell me, feel free to come to my ask box. All I ask is that you don’t be rude or extremely defensive; whatever reason you might have is valid and I’m not trying to start any fights. I just want some clarity to help ease this question that’s been bothering me for the last couple of months.

anon ily pls marry me. i was thinking about these two last night and then this popped into my inbox and i'm both terrified of you and in awe of you. but of course i'll write denspa for you! 🍪💖

Falling

“I’ve never seen snow before.”

The claim, quite bold, takes Mikkel by surprise. The two of them stand at the window of the cabin’s living room, and are watching as the first snow of the year has started to sprinkle down from the sky. The flakes are big, fluffy, and whiter than white, and Mikkel believes it to be the perfect kind of snow to settle on the ground and stay put for at least a few days, if it snows for long enough. 

Still, while snow is a fond friend, he finds it curious that Antonio, who admittedly has lived a… warmer life, if you will, has never seen snow. Like, ever. 

So, “You’ve never seen snow?” the Dane questions sceptically. Because he can’t believe it to be true. And Antonio duly confirms his suspicions:

“I mean, I’ve obviously seen snow,” he replies. “I’ve seen it up in the mountains back home enough times. But I… I don’t think I’ve ever seen it falling. It’s always already there, waiting, melting away…”

“But you’ve never actually seen it fall from the sky?”

“No, not like this,” Antonio says. 

While still somewhat hard to believe, Mikkel knows it is not impossible, and the wisps of wonder in Antonio’s eyes as he watches the fresh snowflakes dance down to the ground is anything but a pretence. 

Mikkel couldn’t imagine not knowing what falling snow looks like, what it feels like, what it tastes like. A childhood of snow is the best childhood he believes he could have had. And now, that is something he wants to share—something he wants Antonio to experience, too, even if childhood is long lost to them.

That is why he suggests they venture outside. That is why Antonio looks at him, puzzled, and says, “But isn’t it super cold outside?” and that is why, in turn, Mikkel reminds him, “That’s what coats are for.”

It takes a few minutes to get together the thick jackets, the appropriate footwear, and even a scarf and scarf to protect a snow-shy Antonio. But it’s worth it when they leave the cabin they’ve rented for a week in the Norwegian forests and the snow greets them by seemingly falling harder. 

Mikkel spares Antonio a glance as the other takes a few extra steps out across the grass. Snow is beginning to blanket the floor—a good sign—and snow lightly crunches under his feet while, at the same time, his eyes are cast upwards towards the snowflakes still raining down on them. The smile that appears is a whole other kind of magical.

“You know,” Mikkel eventually says, prying Antonio’s gaze and attention away from the sky, “when I was a kid, I’d spent the first few minutes of snowfall with my tongue hanging out, trying to see how many snowflakes I could catch.”

Antonio’s nose scrunches up for a moment, but he is, apparently, amused. “You would try to catch snowflakes? In your mouth?” he questions. “What for?”

“For fun,” the blonde replies. “That’s why kids do anything! My friends and I did it all the time!”

“I don’t know if I can see the fun in sticking my tongue out and tasting snow,” Antonio says nevertheless. 

“That’s because you’ve not tried it,” Mikkel defends in turn. 

And as though to prove a point, he then does exactly that: he turns his head towards the falling snow, and sticks his tongue out to the cold.

He’s hit by a wave of nostalgia. He’s taken back fifteen years to his home, his parents, his friends, and he feels once more like that child who spent so many snowing days standing outside, trying to taste the sky. 

For what feels like minutes, Mikkel is stuck there in the past. He watches the snowflakes fall and struggles to get any land on his tongue as he so wishes they would, and then—a blossom of ice. He pulls his tongue back into his mouth and recognises that frozen yet watery sensation of an already-gone snowflake, and he smiles to himself, victorious.  

Looking back at Antonio, he finds the other is smiling, too. Perhaps he finds the action funny. Perhaps Mikkel was pulling some sort of face and he hadn’t realised. Only, just as the Dane goes to question this, Antonio turns back to the sky and mimics what Mikkel had been doing: he stands there, hands shoved in pockets, bobble hat bouncing as he moves his head back, and his tongue pokes out and greets the icy air. 

Mikkel is amazed. He’s touched, too, because it reminds him that Antonio is one of few people who has ever been open to trying the little odd things he does. He doesn’t laugh at him, only with him—and the way he now tries his best to fish for a snowflake is so unbelievably adorable and amusing, that Mikkel simply cannot help himself:

He wanders over to the other and once more pulls Antonio’s attention away from his hunt, and, not thinking twice, he meets the tip of the other’s tongue with his own. 

Antonio is too stunned to speak. His tongue retreats back into his mouth and he gawks at Mikkel for a moment, before blinking, breathing, and resetting. His smile returns. Cheek glimmers in his eyes. His hands, cold and averse to winter, settle onto Mikkel’s face, and before he knows it, he’s being pulled down. 

Lips touch his. Maybe he gets to reacquaint himself with the other’s mouth. Maybe they share in each other’s warmth, hands creeping up underneath a jumper, or wrapping around a body to act as an extra barrier to the cold…

Either way, the snow continues to fall, and Mikkel, bit by bit, slowly feels himself beginning to fall with it.

hello hello! you-know-who anon is back 🦦 I fully agree with your takes… can really picture Pierre being so fed up making silly faces to get the "perfect pic" but still going along with it to make Kika happy. Unfortunately it just made the pic look staged! and you made a good point, if she wants to post a pic of them together it's hard to imagine Pierre would stop her.

so, back to you know who 🤭 I'm so happy that he will be in Silverstone. He gives off such a different energy than Kika... when he is in the paddock, you can tell he is really there for Pierre and he genuinely seems to enjoy being a part of his life. When he posts these little glimpses from the garage it makes me feel like he is so excited to be there and experiences everything with Pierre, you know? Feels with him, roots for him, lives through the whole race with him... I am NOT getting the same vibes from Kika.

Ilies’s devotion for Pierre is so freaking amazing and I can’t believe that everybody hasn’t given him the brand manager of the year.

To think that Kika has only proved to have Pierre’s schedule on her phone through a common app… Ilies on his side has proven to keep every single little detail for Pierre’s race weeks on his phone and does even more work for him on his laptop.. They share an apartment together. They go on holidays together. They surf together. Crypto chasing. All of that plus… did you check what’s on their wrists? He is that miracle of a friend one barely notices because he is not out to steal the spotlight and turns his devotion and life into something so constant and meaningful for Pierre that it puts Kika and her cringe attempts to shame.

1. hi!!! this is a long shot because it’s an obscure part of a (i think) multichapter fic BUT do you happen to know of a fic where the narrator is describing how crowley sits and they say something like ‘he sits as if his spine were merely a suggestion’ that’s not verbatim but that’s all i remember. also throughout the whole fic there’s just a lot of commenting on how crowley sits lol - anon

2. long time ago i lost a fic and i never finished reading it. could you help me?? there was a prophecy in agnes' book telling crowley that aziraphale loved him back, something like "hey serpent the principality loves you back" (sorry idk). and then crowley is upset that aziraphale never said anything about it to him and they have sort of a sad fight and aziraphale (impulsively) tries to kill himself (???) but crowley is all "nooo my life is empty without you stop ily" and they hug and cry i guess - anon

3. Hello I'm looking for a fic that I can't find! I don't remember exactly what it was but basically Crowley was not "allowed" to show emotions of love and Aziraphale was not "allowed" to show lust. And they were both talking and Crowley was telling him things that were more sexual? Even though he wanted to talk about love. And Aziraphale was telling him something emotional? I'm not sure if I explain it just right because it's been a while since I read it! But I remember there was tension. Thank you! - anon

This might be a tough one-- I don't remember the premise of the fic at all, only that at some point within it it was stated that Crowley had designed the New Corporation Process in Hell, and that it involved filling out an application 80 or so pages long three times, one to file, one for Dagon's records and one to eat in under two minutes in order to prove you actually wanted a new corporation. Or something like that. - @northeasternwind

5. I’m trying to re-find an ineffable husbands fix I’m guessing I read in 2019 or early 2020, it’s a through-the-years sort of thing that I think I recall featuring: the world’s fair, a holiday by the sea, and sitting for portraits. Ring any bells? - @thelasthomelyurl

Hello!!! I am back from my vacation and have now gone on several plane rides!!!!! Overall I'd rate them a 4/10, pretty boring, reminds me of school, my vacation was really fun!!!! I got to learn to surf which is cool :D and I actually managed to get up quite a few times!!!!!!!! I didnt read my butterfly book a ton in the end, but I got a few pages in and (if I'm remembering correctly) learned that Jezebel butterflies are the most common genus of butterfly!!! With around 700(? I need to double check) species in it, I lost a pair of goggles at some point! It was v fun, I also saw some turtles and dolphins and seals at an aquarium and took a beautiful hike :)
