The morning after a full moon night was always a lazy one. Esme herself was still tired after running all night. The first night was a tense one but as the hours went on and there was no sign of Wolfram or Bodhi and the pack was able to relax and enjoy the rest of the night. Now she was back home, standing in her kitchen. Some of her children had returned home to rest and others milled about, either in the backyard, enjoying the morning sun or around the house. 

Leela joined her in the kitchen and she smiled at her youngest daughter, reaching out to kiss her temple when she walked past. “Would you like some tea, my darling?” she asked, already moving to turn the kettle on. Leela was the strongest of them all, she knew she hated all the tension and mayhem that was going on. Esme felt guilty for this. For making her pack worry, putting her family in danger and even her friends. Everyone was looking at her and Esme was failing because she was still running from him too, just like she had so long ago. 

“How did you enjoy last night?” she asked, knowing Leela enjoyed it more than most.

Random Doctor Who Facts You Might Not Know, Part 13: Gallifrey at War Part 2

Both the Daleks and the Time Lords investigated genetic manipulation to create new creatures to use during the Last Great Time War. This includes the highly psychic Time Lord called Quarren Maguire, who was altered to have reality changing abilities. He used these abilities to erase the evidence that he existed and then Chameleon Arched himself to pass as human, unaware of his nature as a Time Lord.

Marie is a sentient humanoid Type 103 TARDIS. The Time Lords kept her in a box for more than a year screaming and thrashing. Eventually, the High Council allowed her to mate with a Type 105 TARDIS, and she bore a baby TARDIS. After the baby was born, the Time Lords took them away from Marie immediately.

The Last Wave was a generation of soldiers in the War in Heaven. The officers in this group were older individuals who forced regeneration until their skin was coated in this black organic blastproofing.

Dalek technology possessed regeneration inhibitors.

The Time Lords would often splice different species together in the Time Vortex to create increasingly impossible and mindless beings.

Leela was fitted with a compliance collar during the Last Great Time War to force her obedience.

The Fifth Doctor became involved in the Last Great Time War by accident after crashing his TARDIS into a Dalek time machine.

During the War in Heaven, the Nine Gallifreys project concerned cryptoforming planets into Gallifreyan cloneworlds. Some envisioned every planet in the universe eventually being transformed. These clone Gallifreys would eventually be used as ballistic projectiles as the war escalated among other things.

In the Last Great Time War, mutated Time Lords dubbed "Interstitials" were living in the Death Zone. They were the results of experiments by Rassilon to create a possibility engine. This involved retro-evolving the timeline of these Time Lords to connect to the time vortex and enter a loop of iterative regeneration. This meant they had no constant appearance and were instead in flux between different bodies. Rassilon and Borusa eventually managed to build their engine using them.

In the beginning of the Last Great Time War, the War Council built munitions factories underneath Gallifrey's surface. They employed children.

It was said that a soldier in the Last Great Time War could die a thousand times in a single day only to learn that they had never been born at all the day after.

The Cold was a weapon created by the Time Lords during the War in Heaven. When activated, it breaks through the time-space continuum, so everything nearby gets sucked into an alternate universe and destroyed. If introduced to an inactive Cold, a subject could be held in stasis for centuries, like Fitz Kreiner was.

During his time working for the Faction, Kreiner spent centuries killing Time Lords, including the Rani and the Master although these may have been clones. He collected their severed heads.

Saturnyne was a water world until it was hit by a shock wave of temporal disruption from the Last Great Time War. This caused the planet to change to one where the inhabitants evolved with no natural laws of evolution, becoming odd beings that could move from the deepest depths of the water to land. The Saturnyne matriarch Rosanna Calvierri would later meet the Eleventh Doctor, Amy, and Rory in Venice.

The Time Lords began to seriously alter their biology during the War in Heaven, often becoming what the Eighth Doctor termed to be "monsters."

The biodata virus altered its victims biodata to become members of the Faction Paradox. It infected the Third Doctor while he was regenerating on Dust after being shot, thus dramatically altering the timeline. Now infected, the Doctor would be corrupted into a member of the Faction by the end of his Eighth self.

River Song used a therapy bot to erase the Eleventh Doctor’s memory of counting how many children were on Gallifrey at the end of the Last Great Time War. This same therapy bot would one day belong to Cass Fermazzi, but instead of taking her memories, it just spewed out the Doctor’s. This had a great effect on her childhood and inspired her to fight for what is right. Discovering this confirmed the Thirteenth Doctor’s belief that they caused her death.

Notes: This one is really just a bunch of silliness and I’m not sure how well it works. Since Futurama is a cartoon, and the characters are two dimensional (in many ways), I wrote this story as a screenplay. Apologies if I made any dumb formatting mistakes. Without further ado …

FADE IN

EXT. PLANET EXPRESS BUILDING - DAY

The Planet Express ship flies into the docking bay

INT. DOCKING BAY

The crew (FRY, LEELA, BENDER) exits the ship. PROFESSOR FARNSWORTH approaches.

FARNSWORTH

Good news, everyone! The Distance-Diminisher is complete!

FRY

The whosit-whatsit?

FARNSWORTH

The Distance-Diminisher, my latest invention.

FARNSWORTH pulls out a remote and clicks a button. A hologram appears, showing a swirling wormhole.

FARNSWORTH (V.O.)

The Distance-Diminisher - or Double D, as I like to call it - enables us to reach distances previously unimaginable! By creating an artificial wormhole, we can bridge the gap between galaxies, opening up entirely new markets for our delivery service.

LEELA

That’s very impressive, Professor, but does it work?

BENDER

Yeah, and if it does, does that mean we have to work more?

FARNSWORTH

To answer both of your questions, we’ll just have to see. I’m going to test the Double D in just a few minutes. I wanted to wait until you were back so you could watch.

INT. - PLANET EXPRESS BUILDING

FRY, LEELA, BENDER, ZOIDBERG, AMY, HERMES and FARNSWORTH are seated around the table.

FARNSWORTH

Behold: the Double D!

BENDER (looking at LEELA)

Naw, I’d say more of a C. Maybe a B plus?

LEELA

Shut up, Bender.

FRY

Yeah, shut up Bender.

FRY

(Whispering to BENDER)

I’ll tell you later.

FARNSWORTH manipulates the buttons and dials on a device in front of him.

FARNSWORTH

Just a few last minute adjustments … and voila! We are ready to open a wormhole to a random galaxy far, far away.

FRY

Why does that sound familiar?

FARNSWORTH presses a big red button and the device begins to whir. The image of a wormhole appears on the screen behind the table. They all turn to look at it.

LEELA

Wow!

AMY

Neat!

HERMES

Sweet giant anteater of Santa Anita! It works!

The wormhole expands, giving them a glimpse of the galaxy beyond. Suddenly, a silver spaceship appears and grows bigger and bigger.

FARNSWORTH

(Frantically fiddling with the device)

No, wait - this isn’t supposed to happen! It’s a one way wormhole. How in the dickens is it coming through?

The strange ship looms closer. It is the Razor Crest.

HERMES

Um, Professor … it’s heading this way.

FRY

It’s awfully shiny. And it has guns.

LEELA

Lots of guns! Everyone to the ship!

INT. - BRIDGE OF THE PLANET EXPRESS SHIP

LEELA

Prepare for launch! Shields at maximum! All hands to battle stations.

FRY

Um, Leela?

LEELA

Not now, Fry. We have to prepare for attack.

FRY

But the other ship has already landed.

He gestures toward the window, where the Razor Crest can be seen parked in the hangar next to the Planet Express ship.

LEELA

Oh, well, in that case, all hands stand down.

INT. -  DOCKING BAY

LEELA and AMY lead the rest of the crew as they approach the Razor Crest. They are holding ray guns. BENDER has a crowbar. ZOIDBERG is clicking his claws together. HERMES has a stapler. FRY is busy trying to pick the lint off a lollipop he found in his pocket.

The hatch on the Razor Crest opens and the ramp lowers. A shiny Mandalorian, DIN appears at the top of the ramp, a blaster in his hand. Next to his boots stands a small green alien, GROGU.

DIN

Do they look like Jedi to you?

GROGU

Pa-too.

LEELA

Who are you and what do you want?

DIN

My name is Din Djarin. I’m searching for a Jedi who can train this child.

(He points at GROGU, who coos charmingly)

AMY and LEELA coo back.

AMY

Aww, he’s so cute!

LEELA

I’ve never seen anything so adorable in my life!

NIBBLER appears in the doorway, muttering to himself.

BENDER approaches DIN, circling around him.

BENDER

That’s a nice shine you’ve got there, fancy pants. But I notice your ass isn’t all that shiny.

DIN

(Pointing his blaster at BENDER)

I don’t like droids.

BENDER

What the — I’m not an android, you stupid meat bag! I run on Windows 98.

ZOIDBERG

He’s a robot! I know, because I’m a doctor and he won’t allow me to operate on him.

BENDER

That’s because you’re an idiot, crab-face. And I only trust a certified robot mechanic with my precious innards. Humans just can’t reproduce the highly polished shine of a robot polished ass.

LEELA

Nobody cares about your ass, Bender.

AMY

(To LEELA)

Especially not with an ass like that to look at.

(She nods at DIN)

LEELA

You said it, sister.

FRY

(Finally getting the last of the fuzz off his candy and popping it into his mouth)

Hey, what about my ass?

LEELA

Nobody cares about your ass, either.

FRY

That’s not what you said last weekend.

LEELA

Well, I changed my mind. So, Mr. Djarin, what exactly is a Jedi and why are you looking for one? And who is this cutie-patootie?

(She tickles GROGU under the chin)

DIN

This is Grogu. He is a foundling. He’s under my care until I can find a Jedi willing to train him. We found one, but she wasn’t very interested.

LEELA

Aw, who wouldn’t want to twain this witty-bitty wittle bundle of cuteness?

GROGU looks at DIN as if to say “She gets me” and lifts his arms to LEELA, who picks him up. NIBBLER creeps closer, still mumbling.

DIN

He needs special training. He has … powers.

GROGU uses the Force to lift FRY’s lollipop out of his hand and float it over to himself.

FRY

Hey, that baby took candy from me!

BENDER

The sad thing is, it isn’t the first time.

FARNSWORTH

That’s all well and good, but it doesn’t explain what went wrong with my invention. Don’t go anywhere, Mr. Djarin. We need to figure out what happened and whether this poses a threat to our galaxy.

AMY

Or to his galaxy. Right, Professor?

FARNSWORTH

(Absently)

Oh, yes, of course. Definitely.

FARNSWORTH wanders off.

LEELA

Well, we’d better make you two comfortable. Let’s go up to the lounge and watch some television and get you something to eat. I bet this wittle guy is hungwy.

GROGU’s eyes light up at the word “eat.” He makes eye contact with NIBBLER and sticks out his tongue. NIBBLER mutters again.

INT. - THE STAFF LOUNGE

LEELA, DIN, GROGU and AMY are seated on the couch. FRY, BENDER and NIBBLER watch from the far side of the room.

AMY

I made nachos.

(She offers the plate to DIN)

DIN

I’ll … I’ll eat later.

GROGU makes grabby hands at the nachos. AMY offers the plate to him and he slurps them down.

LEELA

Aw, he’s hungwy.

AMY

But kind of a sloppy eater. Blech!

GROGU belches, then coos.

DIN

What did I tell you about manners, kid? I’m sorry, he’s usually better behaved.

GROGU climbs off the couch and starts picking up things around the room. He eats a few of them.

LEELA

Why don’t you take off that sweaty helmet and get comfortable? I’ll bet you’re all … sweaty and hot under there.

(She fans herself)

AMY

Yeah, sweaty … and hot.

DIN

It is against my creed to show my face to another. This is the Way.

BENDER

Bet he’s ugly as hell. No wonder he prefers a shiny metal face. Of course, it’s nowhere near as handsome and shiny as mine.

FRY

With my luck, he’s gorgeous under there. Probably even has a mustache and dreamy bedroom eyes.

(He squeals a little)

NIBBLER

(In his deep voice)

I don’t trust the child. He’s too … adorable. That’s my gimmick. And he’s going to eat everything before I get a chance!

BENDER

Yeah, they’ve got to go.

FRY

Yeah, they’re trying to steal Leela from us!

NIBBLER nods.

BENDER

Nah, that’s not it. That Mando-whatsit guy’s just too shiny. That’s my gimmick.

LEELA and AMY are chatting with DIN, who seems uncomfortable with the attention. CUBERT and DWIGHT enter the room.

CUBERT

Hey, what happened to my frogs? I had a whole colony of them in this tank.

DWIGHT

Yeah, I spent all day catching flies for them.

He holds up a plastic bag full of flies, some alive and some dead.

GROGU is playing with the television remote. He burps and a frog leg pops out of his mouth. He slurps it down. He switches to channel to the HYPNOTOAD and is entranced.

BENDER

I might have an idea.

(He giggles deviously.)

INT. - TELEVISION STUDIO SOUND STAGE

BENDER enters, wearing a trench coat and a blindfold. FRY is in the doorway, wringing his hands.

FRY

(Whispering loudly)

I’m not sure this is a good idea.

BENDER

Of course it’s a good idea. I thought of it.

FRY

Are you sure you won’t get hypnotized?

BENDER

That’s what the blindfold is for, dummy. If I can’t see the Hypnotoad it can’t affect me.

FRY

But then how are you going to be able to grab it? If you can’t see.

BENDER

Sonar, my good man.

He begins emitting a high pitched beeping sound and walked onto the sound stage, his arms out in front of him. FRY leans against the wall and whistles nonchalantly. The camera focuses on him. Off screen, we hear BENDER bumping into things.

BENDER

(Off screen)

What the … oops … damn it … oh, that sounds expensive … ha ha, gotcha!

BENDER comes back into the frame, his blindfold gone. He is smoking a cigar.

FRY

Did you get it?

BENDER

(Patting the door on his torso)

Got it right here, pal. Now let’s get out of here before his personal assistant gets back.

BENDER and FRY scurry away.

INT. - PLANET EXPRESS STAFF LOUNGE

DIN is still sitting stiffly on the couch, between LEELA and AMY. GROGU is leaning back, his tummy bulging, picking his teeth with a toothpick. Pizza boxes and chip bags litter the floor.

LEELA

So, is there a Mrs. Djarin?

DIN

N-no.

AMY

(Batting her eyes)

Really?

DIN is visibly uncomfortable. Fortunately, FARNSWORTH enters the room.

DIN

Professor! How are things going with your device? I really need to get back to my galaxy.

(He looks at LEELA and AMY)

I really need to get back.

FARNSWORTH

Oh, things are coming along swimmingly. I’ve already fixed the cup holder on the console, so I can keep drinking coffee while I work.

He goes to the coffee pot on a side table and fills a giant commuter mug.

FARNSWORTH

It won’t be long now.

He wanders back out of the room. GROGU waddles over to the table and sniffs at the coffee pot.

GROGU

Blech.

LEELA

Aww, he finks it’s tinky. What a cutie-wootie-pie!

DIN

(Sighs deeply)

This is so not the Way.

BENDER and FRY enter. BENDER is strutting.

BENDER

Hey, hey, get out of my way! Look at me, I’m shiny and I know it!

LEELA

Shut up, Bender, we’re watching Grogu smell things.

FRY

I can smell, too.

LEELA

(Holding her nose)

Yeah, I know.

BENDER

(To FRY)

Distract them while I set the bait.

FRY

Um, okay. Hey, you guys! What’s that over there?

LEELA

It’s Zoidberg.

ZOIDBERG waves from the corner.

FRY

Oh, yeah. Um … help!

He falls to the floor and starts writhing around. DIN, AMY and LEELA rush over. ZOIDBERG scuttles out of the room.

ZOIDBERG

My doctor stuff! I’ll be right back.

DIN

Are you okay?

He offers a hand to FRY and helps him up. FRY giggles.

FRY

(Batting his eyes)

I’m okay, big fella.

(Turning to LEELA)

I get it now! His hands are so big and … strong.

(He squeals)

In the background, BENDER sets the HYPNOTOAD on the table in front of GROGU, carefully keeping his head turned around the wrong way. GROGU tilts his head and makes grabby hands. When the camera pans back to FRY and the others, we hear a loud slurp and a belch.

DIN

I’m sorry, but you’re all making me very uncomfortable. I’m a bounty hunter, not a piece of meat. In my galaxy people tremble with fear when they see me. You guys are just sick.

AMY

We’re not sick, just horny, jeez. Don’t people have sex in your galaxy?

DIN

(Very uncomfortable)

Well, I guess so, I mean, there are kids, but … you know what, things are a lot more family friendly in my galaxy. Sure, we blow things up a lot and people get disintegrated and sliced in half by laser swords and shoot lightning out of their fingers but by golly, our children don’t know how they’re made!

LEELA

By golly? Why don’t you just make up some nonsense swears?

DIN

Dank farrik!

LEELA

See, that was easy, wasn’t it?

The television blares an alert. The news comes on with a special report.

MORBO

(On screen)

Attention, Earthlings! A most heinous and terrible crime has occurred. Prepare for doom!

LINDA VAN SCHOOHOVEN

(Laughing)

Oh, Morbo, it’s not quite doom time yet.

(Seriously)

But it will be soon, if the culprits who kidnapped star of stage and screen, the Hypnotoad don’t return him to his studio within the next five hours!

MORBO

The delightful creature, whom we all hail as our benevolent overlord, had disappeared from the television studio where he was preparing for tonight’s star-studded special “Benevolent Overlords Unite! An Evening of Fun and Frolic to Benefit the Former Overlord’s Home on Rigel Nine”.

LINDA

Overlord spokesman Lrrr of Omicron Persei 8 has released a statement.

LRR

Return the Hypnotoad or you will be annihilated!

MORBO

I told you, Linda. DOOOMMMM!

FRY and BENDER exchange looks.

BENDER

Oops.

GROGU burps again and his eyes start swirling like the HYPNOTOAD’s. Everyone looks first at him, then at BENDER and FRY.

LEELA

What did you do?

FRY

Meep.

INT. - MEETING ROOM OF THE PLANET EXPRESS OFFICE

FARNSWORTH

Well, you’ve done it now. The entire Earthican government is out looking for you.

BENDER

(Lounging back in his chair, smoking a cigar)

So what else is new?

LEELA

It’s not funny, Bender. Well, I mean, it kind of is, but …

DIN

I don’t understand why I can’t just take him and fly back through the wormhole.

FARNSWORTH

Because I need to be able to close the wormhole behind you, or Zap Brannigan will take the whole fleet through it after you. Haven’t you been paying attention?

DIN

Who is Zap Brannigan? Did I miss a scene?

FRY

(Pointing at the screen)

That’s Zap Brannigan.

ZAP

(On screen)

Ah, the fair Leela. I should have known you’d be involved in this somehow. Anything to get yourself back in my sights. Am I right, Kif?

KIF

Ugh.

LEELA

Zap, I have zero interest in you. Less than zero. Negative infinity.

ZAP

I think the lady doth protest too much. But that’s beside the point. What is the point, Kif?

KIF

The point is, one of you kidnapped the Hypnotoad and we are here to retrieve him.

Everyone looks around guiltily, their eyes all settling on GROGU, who is playing with a small silver ball and snacking on a bag of freeze-dried frogs legs.

AMY

Kif, sweetie, can you just give us a moment? We need to, um, confer.

They huddle together, whispering. When they are finished, LEELA, FRY, BENDER, DIN and GROGU slowly slip away while FARNSWORTH and AMY keep ZAP and KIF’s attention.

FARNSWORTH

I’m afraid it’s quite impossible to return the Hypnotoad at this precise moment, Captain Brannigan. And if you have time for a short PowerPoint presentation, I can explain exactly why.

AMY hauls out a projector and screen and begins to set them up. ZAP and KIF exchange bored looks.

AMY

Just a minute. This thing is a little tricky.

INT. - PLANET EXPRESS SHIP

LEELA

Okay, Din. You and the adowable wittle green guy get to your ship. Power up on my mark. We’ll take off at the exact same time and I’ll run interference to keep Zap from shooting at you. He’d never shoot me.

FRY

Yes, he would. He’s shot at us lots of time.

LEELA

Anyway … I’m gonna miss you, wittle cutie.

(She kneels down and kisses GROGU on the top of the head)

And I’m gonna miss you, you big, shiny, broad-shouldered, bedroom-voiced, steel clad religious freak.

(She stands up and kisses the cheek of DIN’s helmet)

BENDER

(Muttering)

She never kisses me on the shiny metal cheek.

FRY

Me either.

BENDER

I thought you were her boyfriend.

FRY

I am, but she’s never kissed me on the cheek. Everywhere else, but not on the … cheek.

(A single tear trickles down his face)

DIN

Thank you for your assistance. Grogu and I will remember you and add your story to the tales of our people. Nobody will believe us, but that’s on them. This is the Way.

DIN nods and picks up GROGU, who waves his little hand goodbye. But he is actually Force-lifting another lollipop from FRY’s pocket.

EXT. - PLANET EXPRESS BUILDING

ZAP BRANNIGAN’s ship hangs in the sky above. The hangar doors open and the Planet Express ship and the Razor Crest zoom out together, heading for the wormhole.

INT. - BRIDGE OF ZAP’S SHIP

ZAP

She’s helping him. Oh, the fickleness of a woman’s heart! What’s that guy got that I haven’t got?

KIF

Pants, sir?

ZAP

Be serious, Kif! Who would prefer someone wearing metal armor over someone clad in real velour?

(He smooths the front of his tunic)

INT. - BRIDGE OF THE PLANET EXPRESS SHIP

LEELA

Okay, Din, I think you have a clear shot. Good luck. Live long and prosper, or whatever.

FRY

Yeah, whatever.

BENDER

(Sniffling)

Keep yourself shiny, my good man.

FRY

I thought you hated him.

BENDER

I do, but it was kind of nice to have someone to share buffing and polishing tips with for a change.

DIN

(Over the radio)

Thank you all. May the Force be with you.

The Razor Crest jumps into hyperdrive and flies through the wormhole.

FRY

‘May the Force be with you’? What kind of dumb tag line is that?

LEELA

Who cares. What matters now is keeping Zap from following him through the wormhole.

EXT. - SPACE

The Planet Express ship dodges shots from Zap’s ship, blocking it from approaching the wormhole. Suddenly, the wormhole flares in brightness and spirals down to nothing.

INT. - BRIDGE OF PLANET EXPRESS SHIP

FRY

What the hell?

LEELA

The professor must have fixed it! We’ve won!

ZAP

(Over the radio)

Not so fast, lovely Leela. There’s still the little matter of toadnapping.

BENDER

Eep.

INT. - COURTROOM

A JUDGE walks to the bench and bangs his gavel. BENDER sits at the defendants table with his lawyer, HYPERCHICKEN. FRY, LEELA, and the others sit in the audience.

JUDGE

I hereby sentence Bender Bending Rodriguez to pay the Global Entertainment Network the full cost of replacing the Hypnotoad.

BENDER

Oh, geez, this is it. I’ll need to rob a bank or something to afford this.

JUDGE

Fourteen dollars and seventy two cents. You can pay the money to Vinny from Vinny’s Exotic Pet Emporium on Ninety-First Street.

FRY

That’s it? Less than fifteen bucks for a Hypnotoad? I could buy, like, four of them!

LEELA

No you can’t.

FRY

Yes, I can. I did the math.

LEELA

And I said, no, you can’t.

FRY

(Muttering)

She never lets me do anything fun.

BENDER

Woo hoo! Yeah, that’s right. I’m the baddest, shiniest guy around.

LEELA

Well, Bender’s back to normal. And so are things at Planet Express. I hope things are going as smoothly for our new friends back in their galaxy.

EXT. - ALIEN PLANET

DIN and GROGU are being chased by a giant monster. GROGU is wearing a tiny replica of DIN’s helmet.

DIN

Ready, kid? Do your thing.

GROGU

Pa-too!

GROGU takes off his tiny helmet to reveal swirling eyes. He turns to face the monster, which stops in its tracks.

DIN

All hail Hypno-Grogu! Together he and I shall rule the galaxy. This is the Way.

Dramatic music segues into the “Imperial March”.
