timeline: present

theon had never in his life had known robb stark to be UNSTEADY. even before he knew the sword well, his grip was always secure. he didn’t hesitate on anything that he did, for he always did the right thing. for robb stark there was never a need to think twice because he was confident in his actions. that is, until the war. which fairly enough, robb did think twice. only for the best of reasons however, his own thinking led his armies to victory unlike westeros had ever seen before. his shortcomings were few, and it was something theon had known before most of the men that knelt before him now. he had tried to deny robb stark’s friendship, being a child from the iron islands saddled with your enemies and treated with kindness had never been in his dreams and reality of it felt unreal, but there he was enforcing such kindness in every smile, every laugh, every extended hand. theon had tried to deny his nobility, tried to think the worst of robb stark but it had never been able to sit, robb had always proven his worst thought wrong in every and all occasions. theon had always failed. there was no use in denying his fealty, robb had already had before he asked. taking the pledge was not the first time theon had taken it, but rather the first time the words were uttered in ear shot of the only one who mattered. theon wished with all heart that he hadn’t been so astounded at robb’s strategic brilliance. he’d always expected the best from him, to which robb always had delivered. however he had proved beyond what theon first surmised. there was winning and then there was CONQUERING. what robb stark had done was only pictured in theon’s wildest fever dreams, reality barring it never seemed quite true. yet here robb stark was, living theon’s wildest dreams and he couldn’t bring himself to mind. it was robb, theon would give him all his dreams if he asked.

the baratheons and lannisters stumbled into luck, obtaining sansa and arya stark. they’d been in king’s landing when all had broken, it was terribly easy for them to hold hostage two young ladies who thought they would be treated kindly. it made theon smirk to think about this only for one reason ( when he wasn’t comparing it his mouth was far more in a line, feeling ire on their behalf far more then he would have ever dreamed long ago, he wasn’t supposed to care and yet -- ), and that was when he compared it to the capture of jaime lannister. the KINGSLAYER, hadn’t been a fool’s luck. there had never been false pretenses before robb’s victory, only a sharp mind and tactical prowess no other man could have used if they had their lifetime to dream it. what robb stark had done had proved himself the king that so many others had bowed down to, not that regard was any shock to theon ( robb had always been a king, even when he hadn’t known himself. it wasn’t that complicated ). they all saw what theon had always known, and if theon was somewhat cocky in his vindication it needn’t be said by lips. it was a sheer shame it took such poor circumstances for all else to see what theon had always known, but war time’s end seemed to be nearing. or only getting started. who was to say? probably robb, but even his young king had limits in his predictions. none knew what was coming for their future, only to prepare for the worst. none more could theon picture more worrytorn about it then robb. his sisters in harm’s way, his own decisions deciding their fates. it was much on his shoulders, no matter how strong of a man he was. there were times theon wondered if he believed in robb more than robb believed in himself ( he was almost sure of it, though it was never something that needed to be known for robb’s sake and his own ).

his eyes lingered on robb’s tent for far longer than they should have, it was something theon had only been able to get away with once robb stark had been called KING. there was something going on within, he was sure. intruding would only cast doubt on robb’s authority so theon waited. he didn’t prefer it. it would have been nice if he’d been there since the beginning of whatever discussion was incurring, at robb’s side, but such things couldn’t be helped. robb trusted him, he reminded himself, but not all was in robb’s hand. finally, bannerman left the tent. theon waited, after a solid moment had passed with no one else leaving, his bolted forward. for the sake of a chance someone else had been in there, he should have knocked. however, theon had been waiting long enough and such a small action ceased in his mind when he was so close to the goal ( not to mention, there was the likely chance robb would send anyone knocking away even if he’d known it was theon. so-- ). he slipped inside with little regard. “it’s only i,” he meant them as words of comfort, hopefully robb would see them that way too.

Tulle flew over her face again; her legs went out from under her, and she was sure now she was showing off her undergarments to the world if anyone decided to take a peek. She cursed in Valyrian, struggling to upright herself, gathering skirts and tearing what she could, and now she was barefoot.

In the snow.

In the winter.

At Winterfell.

And she had no true escape plan.

"At least I'm out," she mumbled, looking up at the open window where she'd fallen from. She took a deep breath and turned, scanning around where she'd ended up.

She was on the north side of the castle, near the stables. The godswood was over to the west, a bit too close for comfort. The kitchens were on the far south side which was good because it was less likely for her to be caught by some cater waiter. All the guests should be seated, but she couldn't risk it.

"Daenerys Targaryen!"

Oh shit.

Dany whipped her head up, in time to see a flame red flash in the window she'd pushed herself out of. "Fuck," she mumbled. It was either Cat or Sansa, both of whom were the worst people in the world and now the hunt was on. She really had to get the fuck out of here.

Keep calm, keep calm.

The cold was starting to get to her, her arms bare in the floaty dress which looked like she'd been painted in feathers. It was beautiful. It was expensive. It was designed by her future sister-in-law.

And she hated it..

It was also not conducive to a winter outdoor wedding or escaping from the roof of a castle. The neck tied around her in a halter style, with rows and rows of floating feathery tulle and lace, fanning out into a train that was longer in the back than the front and was designed to show off the crystal studded heels she’d be wearing and also the matching coat. The coat, of course, she’s left upstairs. Damnit.

The ground was frozen solid, what little not covered in fluffy white snow feeling like cement beneath her bare feet. She gathered her skirts, her skin still flushed and warm from the adrenaline of the escape, and she ignored the beginnings of numbness in her toes, hurrying towards the stables.

There had been a plan, since they'd be going to the other side of the castle for the reception in the great hall, to have the "newlywed car" be a gilded sleigh pulled by reindeer. Yes, fucking reindeer. No horses for the Starks, no, they had to go find bloody reindeer. Like she was Mrs. Claus running off for a getaway weekend with Santa. She would have preferred a dragon.

Unfortunately there were no dragons to be had, so Dany had to settle for a reindeer.

Along the stables the reindeer were already hooked up to the newlywed sleigh, along with several others that would shepherd guests back and forth. Like Christmas Ubers or something. She could not believe the shit that Robb's family wanted to pull for this wedding. It was seriously the event of the decade, but she was going to throw a massive wrench into that plan.

Dany was surprised she wasn't hearing whistles and dogs barking-- wolves in the case of the Starks-- being set off to hunt her down and drag her bodily back to the godswood to continue the wedding. "What are you doing?" she hissed to herself, her head buzzing.

Running away from a miserable future.

Gods, she had to get out of here. She was freezing, she had no shoes, and honestly she just had to ride this psychosis to the end and figure it out later.

Missandei, her maid of honor, would undoubtedly know what happened when no wedding occurred and she’d hightail it to her hotel at the B&B in Wintertown, so Dany might as well head there. She glanced sideways.

At the reindeer.

“Bingpot,” she muttered, sprinting to the sleigh. She clambered up and into the monstrosity, silver and bedecked with bells and ribbon. The reindeer hitched up to it turned its head to curiously peer in her direction. She lifted reins and called out. “Mush!”

Nothing happened.

Hmm. “Go!” she shouted. She tugged on the reins. She knew how to ride horses and grew up with them. Reindeer were just fluffy horses with antlers right? Nothing again. The reindeer turned its head back around and carried on eating from the container attached to the hitching post. Dany closed her eyes, dripping her head. “What are you doing?” she repeated, rhis time a whisper.

“Yes, what are you doing?”

The voice, raspy and deep behind her, came from beneath the flannel blankets piled in the seat behind her. Dany screamed, throwing the reins in the air, startled and that did it. The reindeer pulled his head from the food and immediately began to run, making for the open gate.

Damn a sleigh moved fast.

Wind caught at her skirts, pulling them back around her and she flailed, caught off guard and not secure in her seat.

Owner of the voice cursed, tossed a cigarette she hadn’t even smelled or noticed over the side into the snow and jumped over from the back into the seat beside her, a blur of black leather and denim. He snatched the reins and pulled on them, bringing the reindeer to a manageable trot, and brought the sleigh over to the side of the main drive out of the castle grounds.

And the man she was in love with— who was definitely not her finance— whipped his head around, dark curls flying about his pale face and his gray eyes flashing.

“Daenerys Targaryen what the fuck are you doing?”

Dany didn’t even think— she hadn’t so far— blurting out: “I’m running away.”

There was a quiet beat, and then he smiled, long and slow, white teeth flashing canine like against his dark beard. “Well. We best get going then.”

And Jon snow turned away from her and snapped the reins, the reindeer running off and speeding the sleigh away from Winterfell.

It’s impressive the way GRRM has two characters make different decisions and still end up at the same place in order to highlight how there are no easy solutions to the hard choices these young leaders have to make.

As KITN, Robb Stark decides to put the North and his campaign above personal self interest and refuses to exchange a high-stakes hostage like Jaime Lannister for his sisters. He still ends up getting betrayed by his men and killed.

As LC, Jon Snow selfishly puts his personal interest above the interests of the Watch and decides to attack the Warden of the North to save his sister. He ends up getting betrayed by his men and killed.

As Queen, Daenerys tries to negotiate diplomatically and sue for peace with the powerful masters because their insurgency is killing people. She even goes so far as to marry one of them, Hizdahr, and stay in Meereen to help the people instead of leave for Westeros and Iron Throne. And still, the Slave Masters (and most likely Hizdahr) try to kill her.

As LC, Jon Snow refuses to meet his deputies half-way on their complaints and disagreements, he ruthlessly overrides their objections and instead depends more and more on the Freefolk to get things done. And still, those deputies end up killing him.

Which is why, as much as us readers can debate on what this or that character should have done and why this character is a terrible leader because they did action A instead of action B or why that character would have survived if they had only done action C, there are always external circumstances beyond the control of these characters and their other actions that push them to that ending.

All these ‘Well he would not have got killed if he had only talked to them more!’ critiques never made sense to me. Even when Daenerys conceded so much ground (There were literal slave markets outside the gates) to the slave masters in order for them to stop their attacks and insurgency, them being utterly terrible people means all that ultimately meant nothing. Daenerys did talk to the slave masters and they were still trying to kill her.

Even if Jon Snow had charmed his men with tea and crumpets, he would have still ended up breaking NW oaths and neutrality to save Arya, leading to the same conclusion of that being the straw which breaks the camel’s back for his men. Even when Robb refused to exchange Jaime for Sansa, his mother ended up freeing Jaime and his own marriage and breaking of promises doomed his campaign.

As GRRM himself puts it:

And whether it be Ned Stark or Tyrion Lannister or Tywin Lannister or Daenerys Targaryen or Cersei Lannister trying to deal with the real challenges that affect anyone trying to rule the 7K or even a city like Meereen and it’s hard. You know, we can all read the books or read history and say oh, so and so was stupid and made a lot of mistakes and look at all these stupid mistakes they make. But these kind of mistakes are always much more apparent in hind sight than when you are actually faced with the decision about, oh my God, what would I do in this situation. How do I resolve this thing? Do I do the moral thing? But what about the political consequences of the moral thing? Do I do the pragmatic, cynical thing and kind of screw the people who are screwed by it? I mean, it is HARD. And I want to get to all of that.

Even worse is when people go, well, character A did this wrong and that wrong and are therefore totally unfit to be a leader, but look character B who has never had to make decisions as a leader that affects thousands of lives would totally be an amazing leader because they haven’t done anything yet. The total lack of logic to make these kind of statements is just simply incomprehensible to me.

Romantic Yandere Robb Stark vs Platonic Yandere Cersei

When Robert visits Winterfell, along with the Joffrey and Sansa, he and Ned arrange a betrothal between Robb and his eldest “daughter”.

Robb falls for her fast and hard. He courts her, wears her favour at all the time and Greywind loves her. He’s deep into obsession and eagerly awaits their wedding night…

The reader is also Cersei’s favourite child and is extremely overbearing towards her. When Robert tells Cersei of the arrangement, she is furious and does everything in her power to cancel it, she doesn’t want her beloved baby girl so far away from her in a frozen wasteland.

Her and Robb have an extremely tumultuous relationship and are constantly at each others throats. When Cersei keeps trying to cancel the betrothal she finally forces Robbs hand, he decides to ensure once and for all that the reader will be his and takes her mainhood. Now they have no choice but to move up the wedding.

HOHOHO 🌟 C H A O S 🌟

I imagine that when Robert goes to Winterfell and betrothed his daughter to Robb, he simply leaves her in Winterfell, in which infuriates Cersei to the maximum. She does not want to you in that rigid place.

You know when they sended a man to kill Bran? Yeah, there's another man to take you away as well, but Robb kinda...killed him when you weren't looking.

Cersei did try to annul this betrothal but to be honest, it's easier for her to just send someone to burn Winterfell than actually convince Robert or Ned.

So when Ned died and the war started for real, Robb knew that the Lannisters would not stop until they had you back, so...he took you maiden hood out of wedlock, in which he also hoped that you would be with child, just as a extra detail.

As for your own perspective, you were confused, i mean, you like Robb, he's a wonderful man to you and even when your family killed his father, you were treated way better than Sansa at King's Landing. But you didn't wanted to lose your purity before the wedding, however, Robb learned how he could convince you to do it.

Now, your mother is devastated at the news that you married Robb and is carrying his child. But don't you think that's gonna stop her.

Ryan doesn't give us a reason to care about Luke, he has season 2 to make us care about Jace for when he dies in Season 3 (which I highly doubt) just like he doesn't give us a reason to care about helaena childrens when B&C happens, The general public who hasn't read the book will be like "who are these kids???"

All I can think about is how this is the only scene in the entirety of Game of Thrones where House Stark is together:

In less than two minutes the writers managed to show us a family:

Cat realising Arya's missing, quickly asking Sansa where she is

Sansa's disinterested shrug

Arya running to them with a helmet, making Robb and Jon laugh

Ned affectionately taking it off her

Catelyn beaming at her baby Rickon

Arya telling Bran to "move!"

Robb giving Joffrey the look when he realises Sansa's interested

We didn't get a sweeping statement of them declaring their love for one another, because it's in the little things that tell us all we need to know. Straight away the audience is told this family loves each other, they might be in a medieval fantasy but they're just like the audience sitting at home. The writers wrote ENOUGH to give us a reason to root for them for the rest of the season.

That's where House of the Dragon failed, they had so many opportunities to endear Team Black to the audience but alas they were wasted. I cared Luke died because I've read the books, but I get why the general audience weren't as emotionally invested. We just needed ONE family moment, a scene where Luke is holding Viserys, Jace dances with Baela, Rhaenyra gives Rhaena one of her old dresses to wear, Joffrey chases Aegon around Dragonstone etc. ONE scene where we can see the Blacks being a family, show us they love each other don't just tell us they do!

Same goes for Team Green, we only have one scene of Jaehaerys and Jaehaera but they were more or less in the background, the show didn't even tell us their names. None of the adults interact with them, Helaena just observes but she doesn't hold them, Alicent barely acknowledges their existence. Jaehaerys is going to die in the first episode of Season Two and as sad as it's going to be the writers haven't given us an actual reason as to why we should care. Do the general public even remember Aegon and Helaena have kids? Just like the Blacks the writers wasted valuable screentime because they prioritised shock value over character development.

such a shame that edmure hasn't yet gotten to meet the only member of his family truly proud of his great victory of the stone mill. so proud she even believed he could destroy tywin on an open battlefield too! ofc if she knew robb/catelyn/brynden blackfish's opinion on all that, she'd no doubt be influenced by her mother's and big brother's thoughts of the uncle she hadn't met before, but it's not like either is in any position to tell her now. maybe that's the one silver lining of the rw, if/when edmure and arya there's nothing to stop her congratulating him on his defeat of tywin lannister.

Yes, if it wasn't clear, I love parallels and yes I will now make a post explaining why Catelyn Stark an Cora Crawley are the SAME person

First of all, they are the 'foreigners' of the family: they left their birthplace at a very young age to get married, being welcomed less than kindly into their new home (Violet despised Cora, the northern lords frowned upon Cat)

They married two noble men and heads of families out of convenience, eventually falling madly in love. Let's face it, Robert is the grumpier, ball-breaking version of Ned (but long live Cobert and Nedlyn)

They made choices misunderstood by the rest of the characters (more Cat than Cora in this case)

They have children they don't fully trust (long sigh of disappointment): Robb won't listen to Cat even if they threaten him, Edith won't turn to Cora on the Marygold issue

They both have a somewhat hopeless younger brother who is always getting into trouble.

They have both seen a child die before their eyes, in two of the most traumatic scenes that exist in the cinematic and literary world (I defy anyone not to lose twenty years of their life to the red wedding and not cry at Sibyl's death)

Their names both begin with 'C' (sorry that last one was bullshit but it's worth it)

Based on this request: Heyyy how about a Jon x Reader. Maybe she’s Theons other sister and taken in at the same time. They clash a lot growing up. Years later She shows up for a battle and saves him. He wants to find the person that saved him and when he realises it’s her he’s shocked but they admit they were wrong about each other growing up… change it about if you like but thought it was a fun idea 🥰l

Warnings: mentions of battle and a little short. Not much else, I don’t think. Am open to writing a part 2!

Pairings/Characters: Jon Snow x fem!reader

You and Jon had never gotten along as children. Like your brother Theon, you had been taken in by Lord Stark at a young age. Unlike Theon, however, you were far more likely to let your anger at the situation show. More often than not, you let that anger out on the only person you knew you wouldn't get scolded for. Jon. And he gave as well as he got so the two of you were always arguing. Jon thought you were a spoiled little princess who was afraid to get dirty. You thought he simply hated you because he was a bastard and you weren't. It was horrendous for everyone else around you and, unfortunately, it would take years for anything to change.

*time skip*

Jon could feel his body slowing down. It had been a long, hard battle and it was beginning to take its toll on the young man. For a brief moment, Jon wondered if this was indeed the end for him. For real this time. However, he didn't have time to ponder his imminent demise for very long. From seemingly out of nowhere, a figure was by his side. They fought alongside him and all Jon could make out was (h/c) hair and armor that seemed…different.

Whoever this person was, they were an excellent fighter. Thanks to them and the other fighters, Jon's battle was soon won. Before Jon could thank his savior, they had disappeared. The dark-haired man searched throughout the camp and the stronghold to no avail. He simply couldn't find who he was looking for. That is, until he made his way to the forges where the blacksmiths were resting. It was there that he noticed the (h/c) hair and peculiar armor.

His savior was speaking with one of the blacksmiths when Jon approached. The blacksmith noticed him first and bowed. Jon opened his mouth to thank the warrior who had saved him, only to be met with a face he'd never forget. "Lady Y/N?" he asked in surprise. You gave him a soft, tired smile. "Your Grace," you greeted with curtsy that looked odd given that you were wearing armor.

"Leave us," Jon ordered softly. Your men looked to you and you nodded with another smile. As the soldiers, bannermen, and blacksmiths filed out, the air in the room grew thick with an odd tension. It was as if neither one of you knew how the other was going to react. When you were alone, Jon met your gaze once again.

"You saved me," he stated simply and you shrugged. "I did. I couldn't very well let the King in the North die, could I?" Jon stared for a moment. His dark eyes were practically boring into your soul. "Why?"

"Why?" you repeated as your brows scrunched in confusion. Jon asked why you saved him. Why couldn't you have let him die? "Yes, Y/N, why? You hate me. Since we were children." You let out a scoff and shook your head. "I never hated you, Jon," you admitted. Jon's eyes widened a bit. "I mean, I didn't particularly like you, but I never hated you. I think, as children, you were so desperate to be like Robb and Theon, the people who teased me mercilessly, that I was hurt. And I didn't like that you were so bitter about the circumstances of your birth. But hate was never a feeling I had for you."

Jon didn't reply, causing another awkward silence to descend between you. You shuffled from one foot to the other for a bit before speaking again, "I-I should return to the celebrations with my men. Goodnight, Your Grace." You turned to walk away. "I was wrong," Jon's quiet voice cut through the dark, empty space. You paused and glanced over your shoulder.

"I was wrong," he repeated, "I always thought you were, well, like Lady Stark with me. I believed you thought lowly of me because of my birth. I thought you were a spoiled lady who was afraid to get her hands dirty. I'm sorry." You smiled at him. "You're forgiven. As long as you can forgive me for being wrong about you. You're a good king, Jon, and an even better man." Jon finally returned your smile which seemed to prompt you to leave the area. He watched you go hoping that this was the start of a new friendship.

Team Green Highlights for 1x09 “The Green Council”

As usual - well, newly usual - here are my “Spaghetti Night” notes and observations for the current episode.

Note: As I’m writing this the site I usually use does not have the screencaps for the opening - which you’ll see is very important below - and the backup site I use has not updated with screencaps yet.

So if I post this and there’s no screencaps of the opening credit sequence than that’s why.

Alright, let’s get on with the music.

1.) A Sapphire for Aemond.

We see - for the first time - Alicent’s dial in the opening credits. Viserys blood lines meets with hers and we get three blood lines (No not four, LET ME FINISH!)

We see a spider sigil for Helaena’s dial, A bound naked woman for Aegon, and a sapphire for Aemond which - if you read the book then you know - he wears instead of a fake eye.

A little hint of what’s to come next episode.

2.) Enter the Hero - Daeron Targaryen.

Right off the bat we’re introduced to a new character via the Opening Credit’s sequence - probably the first time any show has ever introduced a character in such a way.

We see a dial placed all the way to the left of Alicent’s sigil.

This is Daeron Targaryen, youngest son and child of Viserys and Alicent who has not appeared or been mentioned in the show.

Apparently there was behind the scenes infighting which Miguel Spotchnik did not want Daeron to be a part of the show - but Martin insisted on it. And once Spotchnik was fired, George announced Daeron’s inclusion in Season 2 - which is still two years off.

A quick overview of Daeron. He is Alicent’s favorite child and person in the world. Though, with that being said, the book does not go into detail why, but he was sent away at a young age to be raised by Otto as a ward in Old Town and is nearly a man grown when he returns to King’s Landing.

The reason I suspect that Spotchnik didn’t want Daeron in the show is because he is very much cut from the Jon Snow and Robb Stark cloth of being a clear cut classic fantasy hero archetype. He is the bravest of all the Targaryens - Green and Black - and is extremely honorable and just. He is a contrast to most of his family, but all of the Greens are very protective of him - Criston and Aemond basically puts him on Alicent guard duty for most of the war to keep him out of danger. Daeron is also fiercely loyal to his siblings - and to Alicent - to the very end. There are two times that the Greens (and the realm) offer him and insist that he take the Iron Throne. But both time he refuses out of loyalty to Aegon.

He also has a very different relationship with his dragon Tessarion, because, he hatched and raised him away from the Dragon Pit and Valyrain dragon tamers, with only ancient books in the High Tower and Citadel to guide him. So Tessarion and Daeron’s bond will be quite different than the other Targaryens with their dragons. His relationship is much more akin to Daenerys and Drogon than the usual Valyrian way of doing things we’ve seen in the show.

At the end of the war, he is the last man standing on the Greens, and becomes an incredibly important and almost main figure in the finale of “The Dance of Dragons” conflict. He is also considered one of the greatest battle commanders in Westerosi history - King Daeron II “The Young Dragon” is named after him and “Daeron the Daring” and his legacy is still held in reverence nearly two-hundred years later by knights and soldiers across the Seven Kingdoms.

In the books he is Jon Snow’s childhood hero.

My guy loves his mommy, his books, and kicking ass.

And Rhaenyra is gonna learn that the hard way when she takes his mommy away.

3.) A+C=D confirmed?!

Alright!

This is kinda big and I’ve been hyping this up.

So, when we see Daeron’s dial it is strangely placed in juxtaposition to Aegon, Helaena, and Aemond. Daeron’s dial is on the extreme left of Alicent’s dial, above and away from her other children.

(As you can clearly see there is more than enough room for four dials at the bottom of the ravine.)

Also, a big reveal is that the blood line that comes to activate Daeron’s dial trails off from Alicent’s dial, not Viserys blood. You can see where the blood splits off and that the angle is clearly coming from Alicent’s dial.

I take this to mean that the graphic is showing clear ambiguity of not being entirely sure that Viserys’s blood is activating the dial or if it is purely Alicent.

More over the placement of Daeron’s dial on the far left, away from his siblings looks like a family tree in which a said member has a t-shape branching for children with multiple partners.

If you look at the way this official promotional family tree is placed notice how Rhaenyra is placed versus, Alicent and her children. How it is a direct line from Viserys to Rhaenyra.

This is exactly how Daeron’s dial is almost directly under Alicent’s with a weaker trail of blood that is coming directly from Alicent.

Now, I know the argument people will make.

“Fuck you, Matt! You Alicole son of a bitch! This is just the show showing that Daeron is away from home right now!”

I hear you unreasonably angry Tumblr user. But, the problem with your theory is that never - not once - has the show used someones’ geographic location to move their marker. Viserys, Daemon, and Rhaenyra’s markers have stayed absolutely consistent from the Pilot and onward no matter where they went.

So, logic dictates. Daeron put on the left of Alicent and away from his clear Targaryen siblings is the show trying to introduce the concept that there are clear questions of if Daeron is actually Viserys son. And it could be that he is far on the left, because there is a missing dial of his true father to mix with Alicent’s blood who remains a secret.

in the immortal words of Aemond Targaryen ...

“Mm”

4.) The Waifu Protection Squad: Fuck Around and Find Out Division

So we see an immediate call back to 1x08 with parallels to Daemon and Criston protecting the honor of Rhaenyra and Alicent.

Like Daemon with Vaemond, Criston does not immediately react in violence to Lord Beesbury’s rant.

But when both Vaemond and Beesbury start crossing the line, that’s when Criston and Daemon both make up their mind about what is going to happen next.

And just like when Vaemond calls Rhaenyra a whore and Daemon cuts his head in half. When Beesbury accuses Alicent of murdering Viserys - impeding her honor and integrity - Criston responds in anger, smashing his head into his attendance sphere.

Both Rhaenyra and Alicent are momentarily shocked by these violent displays, but quickly brush it off as the price for insulting them.

Also both Daemon and Criston are confronted by the Kingsguard for both murders - but are summarily exonerated under the royal clause of “Fuck Around with the women we I love’s Queen and Princess’s reputation and find out” code of chivalry.

Just like they drew the law up.

5.) The Beast Under the Boards

Alright, we cut to Aegon and Helaena’s apartments where Helaena philosophizes to the nanny that she thinks that people basically want what they can’t have and often take it from others that have it.

I think we’re led to believe that she’s talking about the twins ... but, uh, well, we’ll get there.

So Alicent sits by Helaena to break it to her gently that Viserys is dead - of which I’m pretty sure Helaena knows already, and probably has known for years. And Helaena interrupts Alicent snarling “There’s a beast beneath the boards!”

Now, while, I think that we’re supposed to infer that she means the Dragon at the end of the episode ...

Uh, rap for me a moment.

What if she’s talking about Aemond?

Remember, what she tells Nanny about wanting what others have.

We know that Aemond wanted Helaena from early in childhood.

And even as an adult he’s visibly pined and longed for her.

He also tells Criston later that he should be King.

It seems to me that Helaena is channeling Aemond and his inner turmoil, perhaps sharing in his anxiety through some psychic connection between them.

This would not be the first time in the show that Helaena and Aemond were connected.

Remember the first time we met her, as a tween in 1x06 the very first scene - before Alicent even had a chance to ask what happend to Aemond - Helaena looks up worriedly and say in distress “He’s done it again!” as if knowing already what’s happened to him.

Also, deeper cut, is that the dragon that Aemond approaches in the Dragon Pit in 1x06 is Dreamfyre ... Helaena’s Dragon.

And of course we know the famous line.

“He’ll have to close an eye.”

It seems that all of Helaena’s prophecies are always connected to Aemond in some way.

This brings it all around that I pretty sure that “The Beast Beneath the Boards” is Aemond and his ambition and desire for what Aegon has been given but never earned.

And I believe, this look when Aemond comes in ...

Is Helaena realizing for the first time that all the emotions and anger she’s been feeling has been Aemond. I also believe in this realization is the sudden dawning that Aemond had been in love with her for years and maybe ...
