i grew up watching few anime’s so im familiar with the headstrong and stubborn mc who just won’t give up till he proves what he needs to

stephanie brown reminds me sm of those character tropes (ykno like when naruto is beaten half to death and won’t give up and then shares a personal excerpt empathising w the villain which then gives him the emotional strength to finish and win the fight? my girl Steph hasn’t had a lot of those moments canonically but she’s literally naruto in my blessed eyes) and i just wish i had stumbled upon her character when i was younger. it would’ve meant everything to see a young girl who’s surrounded by vigilantes like herself but she’s admittedly not the smartest, nor the most skilled or talented. in fact she gets the disapproval from the freaking Batman (who’s like the final boss in all this vigilante shit), she gets dropped by the birds of prey and Batman for not living up to their standards.. then her boyfriend (well it was sorta ex at that point), the only person who has been by her side and supported this other part of her life tells her to give it up

but what does my girl do? she takes on the mantle of batgirl (with the appropriate purple adjustments ofc). she believed so much in her own story, in her own experiences, in the help that only she can provide to Gotham as a girl harbouring complicated emotions towards her villainous father and all the past trauma that he brings w it. the girl who grew up on the wrong side of the city, being exposed to all the people and situations that she shouldn’t have been. the things that batman and robin don’t have to encounter outside their masked lives. her self belief is so empowering to read (especially as a 21yr old teenage girl :P), the way she defies authority on both sides of her life, simply bc she knows her worth.

and ofc, we know that her experiences don’t come without self-doubt, self-consciousness and insecurities but she holds onto the value that she brings as spoiler, as batgirl, a member of the batfamily and as Stephanie brown
