Scarlett Dragna, and being the best character on Caraval.

Scarlett Dragna will always have my heart. She’s such an amazing character and she deserves so much better from everyone especially Tella. I’m so glad she has Juillian with her.

I’m so glad she found someone who loves her with his whole everything. Like this girl loves so freely and so beautifully and had never ever felt the same love reciprocated- not even from Tella, until she met Juillian. I’m not saying Tella didn’t love her. They both love each other so much, but Tella doesn’t love Scar as much as Scar loves Tella. Scarlett even acknowledges this.

She’s such an eldest sister. Her sacrifices. Her silent pain. Her unconditional and endless love for Tella even tho she knew Tella would never pick her over everyone like Scar would pick Tella. The way she forgave her birth father, the way she tried to find excuses for her mother in the end…

This girl deserves happiness and love and all that is good in life.

SPOILERS FOR ACFTL AND CARAVAL

So in the Caraval series we were all lead to believe that Donatella was Jacks true love. Now that acftl has been released we know that the curse Aurora put on Jacks wasn’t that he could only kiss his one true love without killing her, but that he could only kiss a girl who could never fall in love with him.

But in Legendary you can see that Tella does feel the effects of Jacks kiss, she can feel her heart rate slowing soon after. That is until Legend rescues her from something (i forgot its been a long time okay) and gives her his blood and suddenly her heart beats at a normal pace again. A lot of us thought it was because Legend’s blood was magical but what if that was the moment Tella fell in love with Legend.

What if at the start there was a chance she could’ve fallen in love with Jacks and that was why the kiss was affecting her, but the moment she fell for Legend the curse stopped working on her? What if her love for Legend was so strong that that there would never be space for anyone else, including Jacks? WHAT IF?

The problem with this is that Jacks heart did start beating after the kiss so it doesn’t really make sense how she could’ve done that if she had any chance of falling in love with him. But my defence to that is a) Jacks heart could’ve started beating later on after the kiss, or b) This is the world of Caraval and we all know how many unexplained things there tend to be and how its vibes over concise plot most of the time.

Anyways this might’ve been a bit far-fetched but I love a good love story so who cares.

Finished re-reading Legendary last night.

There wasn’t much that I think will have any significance in acftl but I found one more narrative parallel.

Dante told Tella that there’s a loophole to every curse. Reminds me of LaLa and Chaos telling Evangline there’s a back door to every curse. And that the back door was in the Valory. I don’t think that’s exactly important but was interesting.

The other thing was something that Jacks said.

I am wondering what does he mean exactly?

He says “if this is about the cards… I did. the same thing.” WHAT DOES THAT MEAN? I may be overthinking this or just not for some reason wrapping my head around this. The way there’s a bit of regret saying he’s no longer human was actually sad. Makes the whole “got-tricked-into-being-a-Fate-by-the Fallen-Star” more possible.

I still just cant not understand what he means about the cards. Unless he’s referring to being trapped in one and thinking that Tella’s crying from the pain of it?

The fact Jacks also was crying a bit was odd. Because it says teardrops about to fall, not blood and he cries blood.

Which countries/cultures do you think the places in Caraval and OUABH are based on? Like the Magnificent North, Valenda, Isla de los Suenos, etc.

Ooo I might have to think about this more, but I'll start in order of appearance 😉

Isla de los Suenos: I know Stephanie said that she was largely inspired by The Great Gatsby movie, but seeing that the names are in Spanish, maybe countries like Puerto Rico, Argentina, or even Spain. Scarlett's red dress and flower in her hair reminds of the traditional flamingo dresses.

Valenda: Because of their fashions of thin dresses, cravats, knee breeches, and similarly top hats, I think France is a good bet.

Magnificent North: this one is a fun one because it really is inspired by familiar fairytales, which span over different countries like Germany, France, Norway, UK, and many more. Since it snows a lot and it sort of reminds me of Frozen, perhaps from countries with similar weather 😊
