🇨🇳🇺🇲 🚨 CHINA'S FOREIGN MINISTER SLAMS U.S. FOR INTERNATIONAL SPYING AND INTERFERENCE IN FOREIGN AFFAIRS
China's foreign ministry spokeswoman, Mao Ning, slammed the United States after passing its National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), including an extension of the highly controversial Section 702, which authorizes the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) court, and allows for the surveillance of foreign persons without a court warrant.
"The US Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA), adopted after Watergate, was originally aimed at preventing government authorities from abusing power and carrying out arbitrary eavesdropping," Mao Ning said at a Press Conference Thursday.
"However, Section 702, added in 2008, permit the National Security Agency to carry out eavesdropping and surveillance without obtaining an individualized court order."
"After that, the US government has been expanding the scope of eavesdropping and surveillance to interfere in other countries’ internal affairs and meddle in the normal course of international affairs," Mao Ning continued.
"This runs counter to international law and basic norms governing international relations. The more targets the US spies on, the fewer friends it has. The US needs a better sense of boundary and less obsession for control."

The Biden administration has offered to brief former Donald Trump officials about the Chinese spy balloons that they failed to catch during his administration.
The Pentagon announced on Saturday that three suspected Chinese surveillance balloons travelled over the continental US during Mr. Trump’s time in office.
Among the three separate encounters, one balloon is believed to have travelled over parts of Texas and Florida. None of the balloons were shot down and the American people were not made aware of the situation.
A fourth balloon also reportedly entered US airspace earlier on in the Biden administration.
Expanding on those comments on Monday, White House national security adviser Jake Sullivan said the Biden administration was able to retroactively identify the presence of Chinese balloons in US airspace during Trump’s term after the US “[enhanced] our surveillance of our territorial airspace.”
“We enhanced our capacity to be able to detect things that the Trump administration was unable to detect,” he added.
“We were able to go back and look at the historical patterns” and uncover “multiple instances” during the Trump administration in which Chinese surveillance balloons "traversed American airspace and territory," Mr. Sullivan said, speaking at an event hosted by the US Global Leadership Coalition.
Mr. Trump repeatedly denied the US intelligence about China’s surveillance under his watch and has instead taken aim at President Joe Biden over his handling of the spy balloon which flew over Montana last week – which has now been shot down by the US military.
In a rant on his Truth Social platform, the former President flatly denied the Pentagon’s statement, branding it “fake disinformation”.
“China had too much respect for ‘TRUMP’ for this to have happened, and it NEVER did. JUST FAKE DISINFORMATION!” he fumed.
He doubled down on this insistence in an interview with Fox News on Sunday claiming: “This never happened. It would have never happened.”
“And if it did, we would have shot it down immediately.”
Several members of the Trump administration also said that they weren’t aware of any of the three incidents, with former Defense Secretary Mark Esper saying he was “surprised” by the Pentagon’s announcement.
Now, a senior Biden administration official has revealed that the Trump administration wasn’t even aware of the three potential surveillance balloons at the time. Instead, they were only discovered after Mr. Biden took office from the one-term, twice-impeached Mr. Trump.
It is not clear exactly how or when the previous incidents were discovered but the official told CNN that the spy balloons are believed to have been used by China across five continents dating back several years.
The official that the intelligence community would be willing to provide briefings to top Trump administration officials about the incidents.
Congress was also briefed about the past balloon incidents over the weekend.
The potential embarrassment for the former President comes as both he and Republicans slammed the Biden administration’s response to the spy balloon which was spotted over Montana last week.
The balloon was first sighted over Billings, Montana, on Wednesday – which is home to US nuclear missile sites – and was confirmed by a Pentagon official on Friday. The balloon had first flown over the Aleutian Islands, through Canada, and into Montana.
At the time of the sighting, the Biden administration declined to shoot it down – based on the recommendations of the military as it flew over populated areas – but officials said that steps had been taken to protect against the collection of sensitive information.
On Saturday, the balloon was shot down over the Atlantic ocean off the coast of North and South Carolina. Airspace in the area was closed temporarily for the operation, with Mr. Biden giving it the final go-ahead.
The President told reporters that he had “ordered the Pentagon to shoot it down on Wednesday as soon as possible” but that the military leaders decided to wait until it was in “the safest place to do it”.
“They successfully took it down and I want to complement our aviators who did it,” he said after the operation was complete.
Now, US Navy divers are working to retrieve the debris so that it can be studied in hopes of providing intelligence about China’s spying capabilities.
Meanwhile, China has threatened to take “further actions” in response to the balloon being shot down – despite denying it was a spy balloon and instead claiming it was a weather airship that simply flew off course.
“China will resolutely uphold the relevant company’s legitimate rights and interests, and at the same time reserving the right to take further actions in response,” China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement on Sunday.
“China had clearly asked the US to handle this properly in a calm, professional and restrained manner,” it added.
“The US had insisted on using force, obviously overreacting.”
The saga has escalated tensions between the US and China with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken cancelling a scheduled trip to Beijing in response.

Taiwan condemns Qatar for 'politicising' World Cup amid China spat
Tumblr media
Taipei (The Times Groupe)- Taiwan’s Foreign Ministry criticized the organizers of the World Cup in Qatar on Wednesday for claiming Taiwanese fans may be listed as Chinese, and demanded they not allow “improper political factors” to influence sporting events.
Taiwan is a democratically-governed country that takes issue with China’s claims to sovereignty and, in particular, its attempt to claim Taiwanese people as Chinese.
The Hayya card, which serves as a fan identification card as well as their entry visa to Qatar, is required for all World Cup ticket holders.
Taiwan was not listed as a nationality on the application system Tuesday, and a senior Qatari official said Taiwanese were likely to be listed as Chinese on the card.
On Wednesday, the online system listed “Taiwan, Province of China”, terminology that is equally offensive to Taiwan’s government and its people, though it did display a Taiwanese flag, a symbol anathema to China.
Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Joanne Ou said it was “unacceptable to belittle our country” and they were asking organizers to “immediately correct their ways”.
“The Foreign Ministry urges the organizers of the World Cup that improper political factors not taint simple sports activities and sporting venues that value fair competition and emphasize the spirit of the athletes,” she said.
Sports organizers should let sports be sports and give fans around the world “a clean World Cup football event”.
World Cup organizers did not immediately respond to the comments. Qatar’s communication office did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Taiwan participates in most international sporting events as “Chinese Taipei” to avoid political problems with Beijing.
It has never been to a World Cup finals and lost all eight matches in the second round of the Asian qualifying for the 2022 tournament last year.
Taiwan does not have diplomatic relations with Qatar, which, like most countries, only recognizes China’s government.
China has stepped up its pressure on countries and foreign companies to refer to Taiwan as part of China in official documents and on websites, often using the phrase “Taiwan, Province of China”, or “Taiwan, China”.
Wang Wenbin, a spokesman for the Chinese foreign ministry, responded to questions about Taiwan’s complaints to the Qatar World Cup organizers by affirming that “Taiwan is part of China”.
“The one China principle is a basic norm of international relations, and it is widely acknowledged by the international community,” Wang told reporters at a regular press briefing in Beijing on Wednesday.

Chinese Report On US Foreign Aid An Eye Opener
— Professor Anthony Moretti | April 21, 2024
Tumblr media
Illustration: Xia Qing/Global Times
The Chinese Foreign Ministry recently issued a report that everyone should read. Titled "The Hypocrisy and Facts of the United States Foreign Aid," the document states that US aid to other countries "ignores the practical interests and long-term development of recipient developing countries." Being selfish, arrogant, hypocritical and ugly, and wantonly interfering in other countries' internal affairs for its own benefits, US foreign aid brings about seriously negative impacts on world peace and development, it continues.
Those few words alone should draw anyone's attention, although it is doubtful that the report will be acknowledged by US political leaders or discussed by the mainstream media.
One of the report's primary themes is that US aid is designed to benefit the US, not the recipient country. The report argues the US deserves sharp criticism because its policies do not recognize "the vital interests and actual needs of developing countries." Its policies do, however, ignore "the cultural traditions and realistic conditions of other countries."
Sri Lanka is one example. The US suggested years ago it was prepared to offer Sri Lanka aid that would have, among other things, "reduced traffic congestion and air pollution in [the capital city of] Colombo and improved public transportation for millions of Sri Lankans who travel by bus." The view from Sri Lanka was different. There, concerns about national sovereignty and national security led the government to reject the support. The Colombo Telegraph outlined why Sri Lanka ought never to have been considered for the program while arguing that US military interests overrode the program's stated requirements. In effect, the Americans wanted to run roughshod over the country in order to strengthen US military presence in South Asia.
The US has a well-documented history of using nations around the world to enhance its military position. According to one estimate, the US has 750 installations in over 80 countries, with Japan and Germany being the top two locations. Residents of the Japanese city of Okinawa, where the US has had military bases since the end of World War II, overwhelmingly agree that the continued presence is "unfair" primarily because the military bases in the prefecture would be targets of an attack in an emergency.
The abandonment of humanitarian efforts is another theme. The report analyzes how, in 2018, the White House stopped supporting the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA). President Donald Trump said at the time, "We're not paying until you make a deal." Perhaps he was referring to the Palestinians' acquiescing to his ideas about Israel, Palestine and a two-state solution. However, as the Brookings Institution sagely noted, the decision made clear to the Palestinian refugees that he "callously disregards their most basic needs."
Fast forward to 2024, and Washington has once again cut off dollars for Palestinians. Washington, along with several allies, paused funding to the UNRWA again in January of this year.
How can the US start and then stop the distribution of a measly portion of the overall US budget benefitting Palestinians and still continue to speak often and loudly about its commitment to human rights and how it supports the most vulnerable of people in the world? Perhaps more importantly, how does this policy promote sound foreign aid aims?
A final theme worth noting is the US' linkage of foreign aid to private investment. The report reviews multiple instances during and after the Cold War in which the US required "recipient countries to use aid mainly for the development of private enterprises and not for public investment."
The debacle that now defines US-Russia relations can be partially explained by the "shock therapy" that the US and Russian leaders applied to the Russian economy in the aftermath of the collapse of the Soviet Union. Instead of opting to slowly roll out economic policies, major reforms, which Russia was not prepared for, were enacted. History tells us the rest of the story: The rich became obscenely rich; the poor became desperate. The report summarizes US history of attaching aid to private investment this way, with tens of millions of people falling into poverty, a widening gap between rich and poor, and economy collapsing.
If they were to read the full document, US political leaders ought to evaluate how - and why - it distributes aid around the world. If that were to happen, would examples of hypocrisy be noted and assurances given that they will not be repeated?
Sadly, the answer is almost certainly no. The US can act better, and it should be.

Pakistan:
Strongly condemning Israel's assault on the city of Rafah in the southern Gaza Strip, Pakistan said Monday that Tel Aviv is in violation of measures ordered by the UN's top court last month.
The Maldives:
The Maldives on Monday also strongly condemned Israel's "threats to launch a full-scale invasion" on Rafah city. "The forced displacement and inhumane attacks against innocent Palestinians and the obstruction of humanitarian assistance by the Israeli occupation forces is against international laws and regulations and tantamount to war crimes," the said a Foreign Ministry statement from the capital Male.
Afghanistan:
The interim Taliban administration in Afghanistan also joined the chorus against the Israeli attacks on Rafah. "The continuation of brutality of Zionist forces on Rafah city will cause a major disaster and make the ongoing crisis spiral out," the Foreign Ministry in Kabul said.
China:
China’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson said that Israel’s actions in Rafah harm civilians and violate international law. China opposed and condemned Israel’s Rafah actions and it is closely following the developments in the Rafah area. It further urged Israel to stop its military operation as soon as possible and warned of a ‘serious humanitarian disaster’ if Israel continues its ground offensive in Rafah.
Venezuela:
In a statement, the Venezuelan Foreign Affairs Ministry condemned "the actions taken by the Government of Israel within the framework of the expansion of the military offensive in the Gaza Strip toward Rafah, in the far south. "The statement added that this "Israeli Zionist plan aims to continue implementing its criminal and expansionist policy in this area that is home to more than one million four hundred thousand displaced Palestinians."
