been wanting to make another warriors blog for a while but i finally caved after writing up stuff about my new ocs and not knowing where to post it. im just copypasting this directly from an info dump i made so it's not extremely well organised LMAO but here are said OC ideas :]] im probably gonna spend quite a bit of time on this blog just building on them and drawing them tbh. that's the plan anyway
so imagine a cat becomes a medicine cat apprentice, and when they finally go to meet starclan at the moonpool instead of like.. awe, wonder, admiration etc. this idea of all powerful godly ancestors that can apparently predict fate and maybe even control it according to some cats, and watches them constantly.. fucking TERRIFIES this cat. like he is absolutely shitting his pants level afraid and he becomes gradually extremely paranoid about it all. he tries to keep doing the medicine cat stuff but eventually begs his leader to let him just become a warrior to try and get away from it as much as possible. and it helps but not.. a lot? hes still afraid and struggling.
it also turns out he's also had a pretty rough lot in life up til now, which doesnt help bc if these starclan cats control everything why has he suffered so much? what did he do to deserve it? bad things continues to happen and he questions it more and more. he feels like hes watched constantly and even like hes being punished for something he did, even though he doesnt know what his crime actually was. this makes things even worse.
at some point because of all this he runs off maybe? but he misses his family and clan and he also feels watched still no matter where he goes. and maybe something horrible happens to someone he cares for while hes gone and he blames himself for it because he left and thinks starclan decided to hurt his loved ones for it. so he becomes afraid to even leave the clans and doesnt attempt to run away again.
mind you, in the meantime starclan hasnt caused ANY of this. the things that happen are unfortunate coincidences. but he has no idea and after actually seeing what to clan cats basically counts as God Himself™️ hes a wreck. the books always show meeting starclan as a positive experience but i feel like it's something youd need at least some level of willpower for. youd need the right mindset. not just anyone can become a medicine cat and communicate with their ancestors. it's a big deal and some cats ,id think, just wouldnt be able to do it.
hes called whisperingstorm, he has a littermate called bubblingstream. his mother had other litters so he has many siblings but that's the one he knows best and grew up with. he also has an older brother maybe. dovesomething im thinking. bubbling has his own set of issues but im still figuring out how to make that work. another litter in his family is two more kits who are gonna have matching names, this serves to contrast bubbling and whispering who have conflicting names (they have rather different personalities but they also just. dont get along despite bubblings initial efforts to bond with whispering). bubbling as in excitable and upbeat, then when he grew up stream became his suffix bc hes actually rather.. not that basically. yknow how when ppl picture streams they see a calm, gentle stream that some would consider a relaxing visual? like that, as well as their family having a water/weather theme to their names. hes quiet and slow worded, not much to say. compare whispering, something quiet and soft, then when he got older his suffix became storm because of his explosive, high energy and honestly aggressive personality. so not only do they oppose each other in personality, their birth names themselves wouldve better suited them if theyd been swapped around as those are juxtapositions as well. whispering is loud and aggressive, bubbling is quiet and softspoken.
the reason whispering and bubbling dont get along is cause.. well, whispering is a prick, to be blunt. but hes like this as an active attempt to push people away bc of trust issues. he cares a lot about bubbling, he just also thinks anyone being close to him = him inflicting his 'bad luck'/'curse' (see: STARCLAN IS OUT TO GET ME) on others.
eventually it works and bubbling gives up trying to support his brother for his own sake because whispering goes anywhere from mildly mean to downright verbally abusive trying to get bubbling to go away and the guy cant really keep dealing with that. and whispering hates himself for it but he got what he aimed for so.. yeah.
not sure where im going next with this but i want. drama. but not murder. none of them are gonna be murdery. it's a very family issues and trauma and mental health kind of theme i want going on here. yeah someone will probably die bc that's just kinda a given in the clans but not from killing. i can enjoy warriors ocs that go and kill cats for one reason or another but between them and canon i want something different for once, and this is what i want to create to achieve that. plus running off somewhere and coming back to find out, say, a family member died of greencough or something? it's harder to pin a blame on anything material there. as opposed to a cat from a different clan outright killing them in battle or something.
this is where my blog url came from as you can all guess lol. that's all for now while i finalise things like the names of their other siblings, make solidified designs and come up with more stuff.

a/n: hiiiii so i decided to make this a 2in1 reaction; basically i just put together 2 of my requests that were *in my opinion* closely related. hope y’all don’t mind and enjoy!! ( ˊᵕˋ )♡.°⑅
requested by annonies: ‘Hey.. could you please do nct dream reaction to s/o having high fever and just wants cuddls? 🥺 like how would they take care of them.. make it fluffy please.’ & ‘nct dream reaction to their s/o being EXTREMELY tired and then like ummmmm cuddling and stuff maybe?? *uwuing in the distance*’

Mark Lee
okay but just imagine this (๑◕︵◕๑)
cuddle sessions when you’re both stretched thin and overworked
even though we all know he isn’t big on skinship i think he would throw all reticence out the window when it’s crystal clear that you both NEED each other ꒰๑˃͈꒳˂͈๑꒱ノ*゙̥
so you just crawl under the bankets into his arms and you both just lay together in silence just enjoying each other’s presence
bonus points if he runs his hand through your hair and you trace shapes with the pads of your fingers on his skin (´,,•ω•,,)♡
it would probaby take a couple of lazy kisses and if you’re really really soft he might just hum some song lowly in your ear
just a lil heads up:
you ain’t getting out of his arms ‘til next morning so better hope you peed beforehand and have a bottle of water in reach (ಠ‿↼)
the only thing that would make him get up without a second thought?
if you’re feverish because of your exhaustion
his worry wouldn’t allow him to settle down until he’s 110% sure he made everything in his power to keep you comfortable
“cold towels, water, painkillers just in case, is there anything i’m forgetting? babe, should i make you some tea-”
“mark, you know what would make me feel SO much better?”
“huh?” 「(゚<゚)゙??
“CUDDLES, BABE, CUDDLES!!” (╬ Ò ‸ Ó)
you don’t have to say that twice, your man is tucking you into his side in an instant flash ain’t got nothing on mark, he’s a man on a mission
he’ll try to stay awake long enough to make sure you’ve fallen asleep properly since he knows your fever won’t go away without proper rest
might hover over you the next morning too!! ( ≧Д≦)
Huang Renjun
this boy would FRET like CONSTANTLY
especially if you develop a fever
he keeps piling up a lot of stuff in your room, anything he deems would be potentially helpful at some point is surrounding your bed
“jun, why tf is a cactus on my nightstand?” Σ(-᷅_-᷄๑)
“what if haechan walks through the door?”
“... understandable” ¯\_( ◉ 3 ◉ )_/¯
your room looks like a deposit at this point and you’ve tried to drag him to bed more times than you can count
but he’s restless ༼ ಥ ‿ ಥ ༽
until your frustration topples over and you’re on the verge of tears as you ask him for ✨cuddles ✨
he might actually feel bad for not joining you earlier so he’s gonna be EXTRA soft with you enjoy it while you can
he’s gonna pepper kisses all over you as he encases you in his lil arms and nuzzles his face into the crown of your head (っ˘з(˘⌣˘ )
he’s ready to offer free massages or head scratches!!!! LIMITED OFFER DON’T MISS OUT!!!
also he’s ready for literally anything
fever? medicine and wet towels nearby. thirst? 4 bottles of water AND gatorade. hunger? your favourite take out is waiting. any intruders? cactus is right by his hand. cuddles? CUDDLES!!!!! (۶* ‘ꆚ’)۶”
i think he’ll probably stay up even after you fell asleep, reading about how exhaustion affects one’s body and how to help i just think he’s a really wholesome person despite his all ‘don’t talk to him he angy’ character
but he’s still SO attentive to you!!
he’s down to anything that would make you feel better and if that means 20 hours of non stop cuddling so be it (๑•̀ㅂ•́)و✧
Lee Jeno
i think he’d be REALLY clingy with you even in normal circumstances kind of like how he’s with mark ya know
so your affected well-being will just give him an extra reason to evolve to his ULTIMATE LEVEL OF PHYSICAL AFFECTION◝( ′ㅂ`)و ̑̑
he won’t let you lift A FINGER
my man is cuddling you even while standing up (灬 ♡ ω ♡ 灬)
he’s also going to insist on carrying you anywhere even if it’s just from the bed to the bathroom this boi is strong you have no excuse to shy away from him he won’t let you
you have no chance at escaping him btw his arms are made of iron when it comes to cuddles good luck prying them off you
and even though he’s clearly focusing on your requested cuddles, he’ll ask you from time to time if you need anything, how you’re feeling, if you’re comfortable
lowkey uses the excuse of checking your temperature to give you endless forehead kithes cuz he can (*^∀゚)ъ
he also becomes kind of hyperaware of every little move you make
you shiver? he’s cocooning you in yet another blanket. you’re becoming restless? he adjusts your cuddling position until you’re fully comfortable.
NOTHING gets past him ┌༼ σ ‸ σ ༽┐
idk why but i have a hunch that jeno sleeps like a rock
so if he happens to fall asleep too and you need to get up? pfft yeah sure better call for a crane to lift you up from the bed  ૮( ᵒ̌ૢꇴᵒ̌ૢ )ა。
he’s also going to be EXTREMELY cranky if anyone dares interrupt your extended cuddle session this is strictly ‘only y/n and jeno time’
he might also entertain you with a few pictures of his cats if you’re feeling soft or ugly pictures of his members if you need a good laugh
would totally recommend leaving yourself in jeno’s care!! ♡(.◜ω◝.)♡
Lee Haechan
he would LIVE for your cuddle sessions (●♡∀♡))
despite that, he WOULDN’T STAND you being uncomfortable for a single second if he can do something against that
i think he’s the type of person who wouldn’t leave even the smallest of papercuts untreated when it comes to his partner so exhaustion? fever? yeah no. frickin. way. ┐(;Ծ⌓Ծ;)┌
and after he’s absolutely sure he has everything you might need nearby and put a cold cloth on your forehead and made sure you were hydrated and well fed
he finally climbs into bed with you and just SMOTHERS the shite outta you i’m not even kidding ꒰๑*´ᗜ`*꒱*›◡‹꒱꒱
he’s full on *leech mode*, kisses and nuzzles and gentle caresses
and best part of the package? this man is a walking spotify premium!!
you get to choose whatever song you want and switch with no ads and he has no complaints since his payment is already made in cuddles
you thought this was the end of it?? SIKE
also an entertainment king!!  ୧༼✿ ͡◕ д ◕͡ ༽୨
we all know he probably has shit on all of the members and he’s not shy to do some harmless story telling to put you in a good mood
so just imagine and try coming up with anything better
sleepy you engulfed in the sunshine himself’s arms, tightly cradled against him with his soothing honey voice murmuring and humming to you and only you ˭̡̞(◞⁎˃ᆺ˂)◞*✰
his protective side might surface too btw
no one is allowed near you and if someone somehow managed to bother you? oh hell naw  🙃
now they’re on hyuck’s black list good luck mate
his babie gets the royalty treatment in those times guaranteed
Na Jaemin
he’s a doting boyfriend either way i think we can all agree on that
but you clinging to him and asking for cuddles? you not feeling well?
yeah not on his watch mother hen in action part the sea (ノ・ェ・)ノ
i don’t think he’d panic tho, his only struggle would be postponing the cuddles you’re asking for while he prepares something to eat and a tea and fluffs up the pillows and blankets he’s gathered (oꆤ︵ꆤo)
but once he’s done?
yeah you’re bundled in a mountain of softness and most importantly? our cuddle bug jaemin (♡ >ω< ♡)
he’ll keep you propped up against his chest while he feeds you himself, proper care is something unskippable in his agenda
but after that any cuddling position is FREE REAL ESTATE!!
anything his baby wants, his baby gets ෆ╹ .̮ ╹ෆ
but for the sake of his mental stability he’d prefer to be in a position from where he can see you
boi is too worried to let you out of his sight so he’s aiming to be the big spoon or facing you directly 三 ( ◜◡‾)っ)⁰▿⁰)
he’ll help you fall asleep in any way he can
he’ll caress your back, your arms, he’ll softly massage your neck and shoulders, he has a playlist ready for sleepy moods
he is PREPARED ٩(๑•̀ㅂ•́)و
he checks your temperature every so often and he grumbles with a pout if it doesn’t seem to be going down
but if it comes down to it he won’t hesitate to ask someone to bring some medicine and if your exhaustion and/or fever doesn’t relent he’ll insist on getting checked by a doctor
it would break his heart to see you so weak and no ammount of cuddles could repair it until he sees you up and healthy again (◕⌓◕;)
but he’ll do all the pampering in the world so don’t worry
Zhong Chenle
i think he would hesitate at first but only because he’s kinda scared he’ll only make it worse and he WOULDN’T want that ( ⚆ _ ⚆ )
eventually i guess he’d step out to call his mum for help before he pulls some bull like ‘let’s do some math it’s gonna be fun’ and you lose your shit like no thanks fam i wanna live (┛ಠДಠ)┛彡┻━┻
he’ll listen RELIGIOUSLY to his mum’s advice
makes you some chamomile exactly how you like it, probably pulls together something small to eat but won’t force you
what he will force you to take is some medicine you ain’t dying on his watch (๑・`▱´・๑)
and most importantly... DAEGAL CUDDLES!!!! imagine getting to cuddle every nctzen’s bias
he might get *a little* jelly tho if you pay too much attention to her tho
so he makes up some dumb excuse about dog hair aggravating your fever or some dubious other reason why you have to let go of his puppy and cuddle HIM!! ೕ(•̀ᴗ•́)
he’ll do that cute thing where he leans his forehead against yours to check your temperature he has to be extra until the end
and before you go to sleep he’ll  try to prod at you to tell him what caused you to be so exhausted that you developed a fever might nag at you too about how unheathy it is to let it get to that point
he just wants to help okay? baby is worried in his own way ( •́ ∧ •̀ )
if there’s ANYTHING he can do to help consider it done by the time you wake up he’ll ALWAYS go an extra mile for you
and chenle wants to make sure you are aware of that and can lean on him so it never gets to this point again
but for the time being... it’s cuddles and relaxation time!! ✧(๑✪д✪)۶
better believe he’s already preparing a spa day for both of you to enjoy like the  ✨spicy ✨ bitches you are
Park Jisung
his heartbeat accelerates
and unfortunately it’s not because he’s flustered shame (#゚ロ゚#)
his only thought when he sees you with bag under your eyes and a cold wet cloth on your forehead is ‘shit, they’re dying wait no censor the first part i can’t get my mouth washed with soap but... poop, they’re dying’
ONE step away from calling for an ambulance or morgue in his mind
he SWEARS he’ll let you teach him how to ride a bycicle as long as you get out of this safe and sound (╬⁽⁽ ⁰ ⁾⁾ Д ⁽⁽ ⁰ ⁾⁾)
he’s a bit of a mess, but he’s your cute mess
it would take *quite* a bit of reassurance that you’re going to be fine after a good night’s sleep and some jisung time for him to somewhat relax
his cheeks will flush once he curls himself around your form no matter how many times you’ve cuddled before
but once you sigh blissfully once he wraps his arms around you, it’s game over for him ε=(。♡ˇд ˇ♡。)
he MELTS against you
he’ll caress your head and gently scratch your scalp, lays kisses on your cheeks/forehead/crown of your head
but he will also fret every time you toss and turn or you make any sound that seems ‘distressed’ to him
we all know he can sleep anywhere under a frickin carpet so he won’t have any problems adjusting to whatever works for you since all that matters to him atm is that you’re comfortable (♡ >ω< ♡)
he just wants you to get better faster
he’ll talk to you in a hushed voice, encouraging and praising you and assuring you that once you’re all better he’ll help you with whatever you need and EVERYTHING will be well in the end ٩(ó。ò۶ ♡)
he’s a senstitive person so he just wants to be there for you in any shape and form he can be

Chapter 14: Vortex
Tumblr media
Masterlist: The Boss of Brooklyn  A03 Story Link Author: @wordywarriorwrites Summary: When it comes to being The Boss, James Buchanan “JB” Barnes rules with an iron fist. Steve Rogers had bowed out of the life a long time ago, but a twist of fate brings him right back into the fold, and face-to-face with a man he once loved. When a game of cat and mouse turns into a matter of life and death, both will be forced to decide whether they’ll be loyal to the business, or faithful to each other. A/N: Bucky Barnes Mob Boss AU. The McCarran International Airport in Las Vegas. Glaring Cirque du Soleil posters, cheesy merchandise, overpriced grub, and soul-sucking slot machines.
Steve didn’t really much care for all the bells, whistles, and neon lights, but since he hadn’t quite decided where he was headed to next, he parked his ass at a bar, and ordered a drink. And when it was gone? Well, it didn’t take long for the bartender to pour him another. And another. And another.
The Families’ forefathers had never had a problem executing traitors. Theirs was very much a world of talk-shit, get hit, and people who stepped out of line were either put in their place or sent to their grave. Many generations had come and gone, but things hadn’t changed that much; there were some things that could not be ignored or forgiven, and they still dispensed brutal, bloody justice.
Nick had truly believed he possessed more than enough power and authority to guarantee nobody on his team would ever go rogue. He’d had a solid, profitable game going, but he wasn’t complacent, and he sure as hell wasn’t stupid. Maria may have had other people do the dirty work for her, but Fury would’ve eventually seen past the subterfuge, and the end result would’ve been the same.
All Steve did was make it happen sooner, rather than later.
Somewhere after shot number five – that’s when it dawned on him. None of it mattered anymore. Fury wanted to retire anyway, so, he’d walk, take his fortune with him, and more than likely collect on an annual finder’s fee from the Families. Since they didn’t like to waste talent or opportunities, the business and rest of the crew would probably be absorbed, and given Natasha’s propensity for turning shit piles into gold, she’d probably be sent in to run things.
At the end of shot number six, he realized something even more groundbreaking – he was truly free. For the first time in his adult life, he didn’t have to answer to anyone, and could do what he wanted. He could stop running and hiding, vacate his seat with the Families, and finally get out for good.
“Drinking to victory or drowning your sorrows?”
Steve groaned and sat his tumbler down, “How did you find me?”
Natasha perched on the stool beside him, “You forgot to toss your phone after you called Thor.”
He sighed, retrieved his cell from his pocket, and took out the battery. Steve also removed the memory card and snapped it in half.
“What do you want?” he muttered.
“You need to come back with me,” she said quietly.
“No, I don’t.”
“This isn’t a request, Steve -- it’s an order.”
“I don’t take orders from you. And I don’t take orders from him, either.”
Natasha attempted to argue her case, but he didn’t listen. Instead, Steve hailed the bartender, and asked for his bill. He put enough cash down to cover the tab and a generous tip, but before he could get to his feet, she placed a hand on his forearm, and held tight.
“Let go of me,” he bit out warningly. “Or I’ll break your fucking hand.”
“Hey, that’s no way to talk to a lady.”
As soon as he heard Sam’s voice, Steve closed his eyes, and forced himself to count backward from ten. He should’ve known Natasha would bring backup for the ambush. Steve considered trying to make a run for it, but he couldn’t escape them without causing a scene, and the booze he’d dumped down his gullet had made him a tad unsteady on his feet.
For the next five hours, Steve remained miserably sandwiched between. When they landed in Brooklyn, Bruce was there to pick them up, but whatever happened after the show got on the road was a complete blank. He must’ve either fallen asleep or simply passed out, because when he came to, he was no longer in the car, and had no clue where he’d ended up.
The only thing Steve knew when he woke was that he was still a little drunk, a lot pissed off, and whoever put him to bed had taken the trouble to undress him and cover him with a sheet. A clock on the nightstand revealed it was almost ten in the morning, and though Steve wanted nothing more than to roll over and go back to sleep, he was hungry, and reeked of booze. The combination made him queasy, which prompted him to hobble out of bed, and weave his way to the adjacent bathroom.
An overhead light kicked on automatically, and when he entered, he found his clothes, which had been washed, primly folded, and stacked in neat a pile on the left side of the sink’s oversized countertop. Lined up in a row on the opposite side were a fresh towel, a packet of Tylenol, a bottle of water, a new toothbrush, and a box of toothpaste. After he utilized the facilities and the hangover kit, Steve fired up the hot water, and stepped into the shower stall.
On a recessed shelf beneath the showerhead was a bottle of shampoo and an unused bar of soap. As soon as the fog lifted a bit, he set about getting cleaned up, and when the scents of Oribe Signature and Côte d'Azur filled the air, he knew precisely where he was.
He finished up quickly, and as he dried off and got dressed, Steve clocked it all. The Sauvage cologne tucked behind a box of tissues; a rolled-up wad of what had to be at least five-grand in the medicine cabinet; the fully-loaded nine-millimeter behind the toilet tank; a switch blade hidden in a basket of haircare product; an interconnected walk-in closet filled to the brim with posh labels, custom tailoring, and an alarming amount of shoes.
Heady, menacing, and rich as fucking Croesus – yeah, he was in the King’s castle all right, and His Majesty was using the trappings and authority of his position to fuck with his head.
Instead of waiting to be summoned, he headed back toward the bedroom, and out into the hall. He made it all of three steps when he heard Bucky’s voice, and the low-timbered tone was hard-edged and steadily rising in volume. When Steve entered the living area, he found Natasha typing furiously on a laptop, and the reason for her strained expression was revealed when Bucky began bellowing at the top of his lungs.
“Don’t give me that shit!” he roared. “You do what I tell you to do, when I tell you to do it!”
Steve rolled his eyes and headed to the kitchen. Situated in the middle of the island was a bowl of apples, and after he snagged one, he took it to the sink to wash it. Bucky carried on with his tirade, never once paused for breath, and it wasn’t until Steve took a seat at the counter that Bucky even realized he’d entered the room.
Even though the man was still busy ranting, Steve knew he was the one who had his full attention. Bucky had always had a bit of a knife kink, and he’d been using a paring blade to cut away pieces of the fruit, and eating the slices directly off the steel. When there was nothing left but the core and seeds, Steve opened his mouth, and very carefully dragged the knife from bolster to spine slowly along his tongue.
“Stop it,” Bucky barked curtly.
Steve jutted his chin, “Or what?”
Any challenge issued could not be ignored, and he did what Steve predicted he’d do; he hung up on whoever he’d been shouting at, and stalked toward him. Bucky tried to intimidate him by crowding him, but he didn’t balk; he simply quirked an eyebrow and waited for him to make a move.
Crisp, white dress shirt strained against heavy muscle; haphazard tie; disheveled hair; eyes bright and a little too wild. It would’ve been easy to assume Bucky was either strung out or about to take a swing, but the lust-blown gaze, flushed cheeks, and damp brow suggested he had something else on his mind.
If they were alone, Bucky would have tried climbed him like a fucking tree, and he knew it.
Steve vividly recalled the last time they’d gone at each other’s throats, and while Bucky was looking for a repeat, Steve wasn’t. He was trying to get out, not drawn back in, and there was just too much history, bad blood, and unresolved hostility between them. Behind the passion was a lot of underlying rage and ugliness; it had been left to fester like an unattended wound, and sex – no matter how mind-blowing – wasn’t going to heal it.
“Boss,” Natasha called out from the living room. “We don’t have time for this.”
Much to his relief, the subtle reminder was all it took for Bucky to come to his senses, dial it down, and take a step back. He ordered Natasha to finish making transportation and flight arrangements before he spun on a heel and headed toward his bedroom. A few moments later, the door slammed, and the sound made Natasha flinch.
“Is this what you dragged me back here for?” Steve wondered.
She walked into the kitchen and plopped down on the stool beside him, “They’ve negotiated Fury’s golden parachute, but there’s a problem.”
He nodded and crossed his arms over his chest, “Go on.”
“Scott, Carol, and Rhodey are skittish and don’t want an outsider running things. And even though they were all cleared of any wrongdoing, the Families refuse to let them promote from within.”
Steve didn’t need to hear anymore, because he knew very well where the conversation was headed, and what the Families wanted him to do. In order to keep their profit shares and maintain control, they needed someone to not only settle the waters, but also steer the ship.
It didn’t matter what he wanted – they were going to pull him back in and never let him go...
Natasha sighed and got to her feet, “They’re are flying out to today, and they expect you to be there to attend the meet and sign the paperwork.”
She didn’t wait for him to acquiesce or argue; she just handed him a cellphone and told him his boarding pass and itinerary were on it. When he brought to the screen to life and checked the destination, he couldn’t help but snort, because he now knew where he was headed to next.
Steve was being forced to go back to where it all began…
He was going back to Bermuda.

Medicinal Mushrooms for Pets
Tumblr media
Mushrooms are fascinating fungi. Think about it: certain mushrooms are the only straight, out of the ground fungi we and our companion pets can eat. Indeed, they are a member of only a handful of fungi like yeast that can be found in foods or are used to make foods such as cheese and bread. Mushrooms, though, are more complex than that; the kingdom of fungi, also called fungus kingdom, is filled with edible, hallucinogenic, poisonous and medicinal mushrooms.
Similar to fruits, vegetables, herbs and spices, mushrooms are packed full of certain and essential vitamins, minerals, and have important antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. In fact, mushrooms have been used by in folk medicines and also served as medicines prior to the development and use of pharmaceuticals for millennia. Nowadays, fungi also are used to make antibiotics, which doctors may use to treat bacterial infections. The resurgence of holistic medicine for people, pets and other species has brought the wondrous properties of mushrooms back into the spotlight as alternatives to more conventional practices.
The use of mushrooms to treat certain ailments is still a science that needs to be applied wisely. Therefore, we recommend you consult with an integrative veterinarian or physician before using them. Additionally, sourcing – regarding harvesting and processing – is always a consideration with any food or herb. Mushroom species can accumulate high concentrations of heavy metals and pesticides. Thus, contamination with toxic compounds may offset whatever potential health benefits they have to offer.
Popular Medicinal Mushrooms
Chaga – Supports the immune system and has anti-cancer properties
Cordyceps – Proven beneficial in some human and animal asthma patients
Maitake – Anti-cancer properties
Reishi – Stimulates and supports the immune system
Shiitake – Contains phytochemicals known to support the immune system and cellular functions
Turkey Tail or Yun zhi – Proven to improve survival in canine hemangiosarcoma patients
Functional Components of Mushrooms
Beta-glucans are the most medicinally-beneficial compound found in mushrooms. They make up to 50% of the cell wall structure of fungi and yeast, and are also found in the cell walls of seaweed and grains. Beta-glucans are polymers of glucose and are of varying lengths and degrees of branching that convey special properties to each fungus and yeast.
Once they are ingested, beta-glucans bind to receptors on the intestinal macrophages (a phagocytic white blood cell), which then carry them to other organs such as spleen, lymph nodes, bone marrow and reticuloendothelial tissues. The macrophages metabolize the beta-glucans glucans into smaller, more immunologically active metabolites which bond to and activate the complement receptors on bone marrow granulocytes (stem cells), thus increasing immune competence.
Alpha-glucans are also present in the fungal cell wall. They provide nourishment for sporulation, and help to prolong the survival of the spores by blocking their oxygen intake which slows their metabolism. Alpha-glucans, unlike beta-glucans, are ubiquitous in the plant kingdom, and are not specific to yeast, fungi, grain and seaweed.
These molecules that make up the cell wall of fungi and yeast provide a specific factor that allows them to be recognized not only by other yeast and fungi, but also by other plants, humans and animals. This recognition of fungi and yeast is an innate immune response that exists in both plants and animals to protect them from the old and ongoing threat of fungal invasion, infection, and even death. It is the branched chain beta-glucans, mannans and glycoproteins that provide the molecular recognition factors that trigger the protective immune responses.
Other compounds found in the cytoplasm of the mushroom cell include: terpenes, alkaloids, sterols, phenolic compounds, proteins and fatty acids. The triterpenoids of Chaga and Ganoderma spp. have some potent medicinal properties, such as hepatoprotective, lipid lowering, antioxidant, inhibition of histamine release by mast cells, anti-inflammatory activity, and act synergistically in immune activation when used in combination with beta-glucans.
Sterols are also found in mushrooms. Ergosterol, found in all mushroom, is tested for in documenting fungal contamination of grain. It is a precursor in forming vitamin D2, which is catalyzed by exposure to UV light, except in dogs and cats, who lack the enzyme to allow this conversion of either the ergosterol or cholesterol that is present in the skin of most other mammals.
Functions of Medicinal Mushrooms
Ongoing basic research and clinical trials in human and veterinary medicine have established the value of certain mushrooms in maintaining and balancing a healthy immune system as well as adjuncts or sole therapy in managing and treating various types of cancers.
The so-called Powerful Five mushrooms are described in more detail here:
Cordyceps (Cordyceps militaris) is a traditional medicinal mushroom with a variety of health benefits  such as antitumor, antimutagenic, antiangiogenesis, antiaging, endocrine balancing, and hypoglycemic effects. Cordycepin has many pharmacological activities including immune stimulating, anticancer, antivirus, and anti-infection activities. A variety of chemical constituents, including polysaccharides and glycoproteins, are involved in these activities. Cordycepin down-regulates the immediate hypersensitivity reaction stimulated by lipopolysaccharides. It is an important quality of life enhancing mushroom.
Maitake (Grifola frondosa) means “dancing mushroom” in Japanese. This mushroom is high in β-glucans which some believe makes it more effective than the Turkey Tail mushroom in its antitumor effects that derive from enhancing the immune system response through activation of macrophages, T cells, and NK cells. Maitake is also high in phospholipids and certain lectins, thus supporting brain function, nerve function, and regeneration. It lowers blood pressure, decreases cholesterol (through mevinolin, a secondary metabolite found in many fungi), is hepatoprotective, lowers blood glucose and is anti-diabetic.
Shiitake (Lentinula edodes) is considered as an “elixir of life” in Japan, possessing the ability to enhance vital energy and believed to cure colds. It is high in enzymes, amino acids and minerals. It can reduce blood pressure, decrease blood cholesterol levels, prevent heart disease, and fight cancer. Other studies have shown its potential antibiotic actions by stimulating white blood counts, antibodies, and interferon, and inhibiting prostaglandins.
Reishi (Ganoderma lucidum; Ling zhi), known as the “Herb of Immortality” and “emperor of Mushrooms”, is used in various forms and combinations with other mushrooms, herbs, and antioxidants. It is a Qi tonic in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) and the activity resides in the polysaccharide, lysosomal enzyme, and triterpene constituents of the fungus. Among its many medicinal properties, it is immune and bone marrow stimulating, analgesic, anti-viral and -bacterial, antihypertensive and liver protective. This mushroom is most recognized for its help controlling cancers by activating cytokines and natural killer (NK) cells. Further, it serves as a potent antioxidant to ward of dementia; It also enhances the quality of line in elderly people and pets.
Turkey Tail (Trametes/Coriolus versicolor, Yun zhi) is a multicolored mushroom easily recognized by its colored patterns resembling the colors of a wild turkey’s tail feathers.  It is perhaps best recognized in veterinary medicine today because of the 2012 published double-blind randomized multidose pilot study showing that it significantly delayed the progression of metastases and afforded the longest survival times reported in canine hemangiosarcoma. A commercial product I’m Yunity® for dogs is available today. In addition to the antitumor properties, Turkey Tail also is antimicrobial, antiviral, anti-allergic, immuno-modulating, anti-inflammatory, anti-atherogenic, hypoglycemic, and hepatoprotective.
Mixing Mushrooms. By using Reishi, Maitake and Shiitake together, their individual positive effects become enhanced. Other mushrooms, Chinese herbs, and antioxidants maybe also added to this synergistic base. For treating lymphoma and hemangiosarcoma, the quality and length of life may be extended by adding Trametes/Coriolus to this mixture.

Many parents practise yoga both as a way to increase their strength and flexibility, and to give them a little peace and tranquility amid the chaos of family life. What they may not have thought of is getting the kids to join in too.But once children get the hang of this ancient practice, not only will it increase their strength and flexibility, but it can help relax them, build their self-confidence and even help them sleep, says yoga teacher Dr Kiki Morriss, author of Nurturing Your With Yoga.
And what’s more, says Morriss, who is also a medical doctor currently working with the Covid-19 vaccination programme, if the family does yoga together it can bring harmony to family life, as well as creating a bond through the shared interest.
“Family yoga will help you foster health and wellbeing for your whole family, bringing happiness and harmony to your home,” she promises.
“As a doctor and yoga teacher, I’m constantly inspired by the potential of yoga to prevent and treat health conditions, as well as to relieve symptoms. Through my work, I’m reminded on a daily basis that yoga is powerful medicine and I’m a strong advocate for making it available on prescription in the NHS.”
Here, Morriss explains why getting the whole family involved with yoga is a good idea, and outlines a few moves children can try to get started…
Why is yoga good for children?
Do children enjoy yoga?
They Could Become The Fourth R Of Public Education But Does The R Stand For Relaxation Or Religion
The number of U.S. children age 4 to 17 practicing yoga rose from 2.3% to 8.4% – or from 1.3 million to 4.9 million – between and , federal data show. The number of children meditating rose to 3.1 million during the same period.
The rise is due in part to more yoga and mindfulness programs being established in America’s schools. A 2015 study found three dozen different yoga organizations offering yoga programs in 940 K-12 schools.
Yoga and mindfulness could become the fourth “R” of public education. But up for debate is whether the “R” in this case stands for relaxation or religion.

As a professor of religious studies, I have served as an expert witness in four public-school yoga and meditation legal challenges. I testified that school yoga and meditation programs fit legal criteria of religion.
In one case, the court agreed that yoga “may be religious in some contexts,” but ultimately concluded that the school district’s yoga classes were “devoid of any religious, mystical, or spiritual trappings.” In two other cases in which I testified, and meditation based charter schools were found to violate a prohibiting public schools from providing “any religious instruction.”
What Is The Right Age For Kids To Start Yoga And Meditation How Is Yoga Helpful For Kids
Kids can start practicing Yoga as soon as they start to understand instructions. Ideally kids of 4 years and above are capable to understand the instructions and follow the teacher.
However, we should be careful that certain practices should not be taught to the kids. For example- Padmasana. The bones are still tender and in some cases it may lead to bending of bones. These kind of asanas can be taught to kids when they turn 12 and above that is kids in their teen age. At this age bones are developed and are no more tender. The yoga teacher should know what is suitable for the kids.
Kids can practice surya namaskar and pranayama. Children derive enormous benefits from Yoga. Yoga helps to enhance their flexibility, strength, coordination and body awareness. Yoga increases concentration and memory power in kids. It makes them relaxed and calm.
Children feel excited when they get a chance to play role of animals, trees, flowers or warriors in Yoga. You should allow them to bark in dog, meow in cat pose and roar in tiger pose or hiss in cobra pose. They can also count 123s while holding the pose.
The instructions given should be fun instructions. When they are doing Bhujanga Asana, ask them to imagine that they are snakes without hands and legs. When they are in a tree pose ask them to imagine that they are a giant oak tree with roots growing from their feet.

Why is yoga good for children?
“By introducing children to yoga, you’re giving them a gift for life.”
Useful Reasons Why Your Child Should Practice Doing Yoga Daily Pinkvilla Desk  |
Many believe that yoga might be harmful to toddlers and children, but in fact, yoga is one of the forms of exercise that all kids and toddlers must practice. Practising yoga every day can be very beneficial for the holistic growth of the child. It develops the child’s mind, body and encourages focus and stretching of the body muscles as well. It not only focuses on physical health and growth but also fosters one to pay attention to their mental health. Yoga is indeed a great form of exercise for your child. So, Dr Shovna KC, Consultant Physiotherapist, Motherhood Hospitals, Hebbal, Bangalore talks about why and how yoga is beneficial for your kids.
Benefits of yoga for your child: –
Increases concentration
Many poses and meditation in yoga use the power of concentration and the process of practising the pose daily helps increase and improve focus.
Improves Flexibility
Yoga is a long process, no one aces it the first time. The effects of yoga show after regular practice. Yoga makes the child’s body more flexible and avoids stiffness in the body.
Helps in releasing stress
As mentioned earlier, yoga not only focuses on physical health but also concentrates on mental health. In these times it is not only adults that suffer from stress and anxiety. Practising yoga can help one release the stress and anxiety that one might be going through.
Increases activity
Feeling of accomplishment
Increases regulation
Improves body posture
Yoga Should Not Be Taught In Schools For Religious Reasons
In some States, Christian schools have boycotted the notion of teaching Yoga to school children. The belief is that Yoga promotes a non-Christian way of life. Besides, in many schools, any form of religious schooling or studies is no longer allowed.
It stands to reason that if you are Christian or of another faith and believe that Yoga is a spiritual teaching, that you might not want your children being taught it in school. Many schools and parents argue that because Yoga is considered a religious concept, it has no place in a school classroom.
When Should Kids Start Yoga The Answer Might Surprise You Arundhati BaitmangalkarYoga Opinions
It is common knowledge that yoga is great for adults. And millions around the world pursue this practice regularly. But is yoga only for adults? No! Yoga practice should ideally begin at an early age, so kids can grow into a well-rounded individual and not come to yoga to fix issues with their body and mind later in life. I often wonder why we wait so long to begin.
Yoga is a gift to humanity, and should be started early in life so the practitioner can reap the lifelong benefits of this ancient practice. There are some very important advantages to starting yoga when you are young. The magical age is 8.
It is common knowledge that adults combat stress in many forms every day. But today’s children are as stressed as adults. They have to keep up with the growing competition in schools and colleges, deal with peer pressure and the difficult stage of puberty, stay involved in extracurricular activities and meet their parents and teachers’ expectations. For a kid, this is a lot to handle.
We should all know about the benefits of yoga for children. The practice has a huge effect on the body and the systems that support it, like the nervous, respiratory and digestive systems. Yoga influences children’s emotions and behavior; it has a positive effect on the mental state and aids creativity.

It Will Ruin Your Relationship With Anything That Is Self
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And yes, this includes even the fun, self-destructive things. You are going to connect in with yourself, and start to notice how all your habits are affecting you. This may just ruin all your desires to drink, smoke, swear, stay up late, eat fast food and drive really fast. If you love your life the way it is now, then don’t take up yoga.
Hopefully, you can sense the jest of this post! Of course there are yoginis who still drink, smoke, swear and eat less than optimal food—they just tend to be a lot more mindful about it.
In all truth, yoga can and most likely will change your life. However, you are still in the driver’s seat and can take it at a pace that works for you. Happy Bending!
Yoga Presents The Risk Of Exacerbating Existing Injuries
Unfortunately, while Yoga has a plethora of health benefits, it can also contribute to exacerbating existing injuries.
The trouble with teaching Yoga in school is that kids might not realize that an old injury can return if they are not careful. Without careful instruction and modification of certain poses, Yoga can cause old injuries, aches and pains to “niggle”. Yoga is a full-body workout, and if children have pre-existing injuries, this may exclude them from practice or put them in a position where their injuries are exacerbated.
Can I Use A Book Or Yoga Dvd Instead Of Going To A Class
It’s better to start with a class to learn the poses and breathing techniques correctly. With a DVD, there will be nobody to correct your mistakes, which may lead to injury over time.
With some experience of being in a class, a DVD can then be helpful for keeping up practice.

Valid Reasons Why Yoga Should Not Be Taught At School
Imagine this…Your child comes home from school only to announce that soon Yoga will be a class that they can take instead of a regular gym class. You know of the advantages of Yoga being taught in schools, but what are the disadvantages? How do you feel about your child being exposed to Yoga teachings? Do you even know enough to form an opinion either way?
It is best to be in the know, and this is the very reason why so many parents and teachers seek out information on both the advantages and disadvantages of Yoga. In my time practicing Yoga, I have heard the debate come up time and again; is Yoga really appropriate in a school environment?
Below are just 10 reasons why it is not a great idea to teach Yoga in schools.
Yoga Helps Kids Develop Their Visual Spatial Skills
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Yoga works on strength, coordination, balance, motor skills, and so much more. It also increases core strength and helps children learn proper posture. As children learn how to guide themselves in and out of yoga poses, they are taught self-awareness and how to control their bodies by focusing on individual movements.
Does Yoga Count Towards My 150 Minutes Of Activity
Most forms of yoga are not strenuous enough to count towards your 150 minutes of moderate activity, as set out by government guidelines.
However, yoga does count as a strengthening exercise, and at least 2 sessions a week will help you meet the guidelines on muscle-strengthening activities.
Activities such as yoga and are also recommended for older adults at risk of falls, to help improve balance and co-ordination.

Reasons Why Yoga Should Not Be Taught In Schools Activif Team
We are constantly hearing about the benefits of Yoga for children and adults alike. Many people have been suggesting that Yoga should be taught to children in school. However, some parents just do not feel the same – why? It can be quite a controversial subject that seems to have dredged up mixed opinions on both sides.
What is the argument on the other end of the scale? Are there any valid reasons why Yoga should  be taught in schools?
10 reasons why Yoga should not be taught in schools:
Yoga can be seen as a spiritual belief system or religion,
In some States, teaching meditative arts in schools is banned,
Yoga does not encourage competitiveness,
Yoga is not high intensity and provides little cardio workout,
Children can become addicted or pre-occupied with Yoga,
Incorrect Yoga poses/practice can lead to injuries,
Yoga can exacerbate existing injuries,
Yoga does not inspire teamwork,
An intense Yoga session can lead to dehydration,
The risk of inexperienced Yoga instructors.
We often read about the advantages of Yoga. So much so that it is sometimes difficult to imagine that there are any disadvantages.
While the advantages seem to outweigh the disadvantages, the reasons why Yoga should not be taught in schools cannot be overlooked. Let’s take a closer look at each of these reasons so that you can decide how you feel about Yoga being taught in schools for yourself.
Yoga Classes In Schools Is Banned In Some States
According to the Alabama State Board of Education’s Administrative Code, Yoga cannot be taught in schools. It is not just Yoga that cannot be taught in schools. The code also disallows the teaching of any other guided imagery or meditative practices to school children.
According to the ban, it is not legal to teach children any form of dissociative mental states and techniques. Yoga was listed as an inappropriate form of physical education, and some states across the US follow suit. For this reason, Yoga might not be possible at your child’s school.
Yoga Presents A Risk Of Becoming Addicted Or Pre
Tumblr media Tumblr media
There is no denying that Yoga is a fun activity for children, and often they become quite addicted to the practice. Children starting out with the basics are typically engrossed in practicing until they can master certain poses or progress to more difficult or complex poses.
Some teachers and parents may think that this could pose a risk to student’s concentration levels. Some might even fear that instead of doing homework or after-school sports, children will become fixated on practicing their Yoga poses instead.
Yoga Supports Positive Mental Health In Children
Mental health issues among children are on the rise. What better way to prevent them or reduce them than by teaching children how to focus on acceptance, love, positivity, optimism, resilience, etc. When children are exposed to yoga they learn about self-acceptance, which makes them more apt to see the good in others and to accept everyone for who they are, and they are also less likely to succumb to depression, anxiety, and other mental issues that are on the rise today.
Things To Consider When You Teach Your Kids Yoga
Keep in mind that yoga is about more than the physical postures. It is about being mindful, learning about yourself, and connecting mind and body. If your kids don’t want a physical yoga practice today, that’s ok! Ask them to color mandala pages, read a mindful book, listen to mindful music or a guided imagery script, practice a breathing exercise, or just sit quietly to collect their thoughts and feelings. These things are yoga too! No matter how your kids learn yoga, remember that you are giving them the tools they need to effectively and appropriately manage their emotions, better understand themselves, and have happy, healthy lifestyles. Isn’t that what we want for our kids?
Yoga Does Not Promote Team Work And Socializing
While most school sports and physical education classes are focused on improving fitness and building teamwork, Yoga is not.
Yoga is a practice that can be done as a group, but it really focuses on the individual. Children in classes will not need to interact or work with other students during practices. In some schools and households, it is believed that teamwork should be promoted and that children should be encouraged to socialize while participating in sports. This can result in much debate about whether or not Yoga is ideal for the school environment.
How You Can Benefit From Teaching Yoga For Kids
Tumblr media Tumblr media
If you’re planning to teach yoga to kids, there are a few general things to know that will enhance your experience. The greatest challenge with children is to hold their attention long enough to teach them the benefits of yoga: stillness, balance, flexibility, focus, peace, grace, connection, health, and well-being. Luckily, most children love to talk, and they love to move—both of which can happen in yoga. Children will jump at the chance to assume the role of animals, trees, flowers, warriors. Your role is to step back and allow them to bark in the Dog Pose, hiss in the cobra, and meow in cat stretch. They can also recite the ABCs or 123s as they are holding poses. Sound is a great release for children and adds an auditory dimension to the physical experience of yoga.
Children need to discover the world on their own. Telling them to think harder, do it better, or be a certain way because it’s good for them is not the optimal way. Instead, provide a loving, responsive, creative environment for them to uncover their own truths. As they perform the various animal and nature asanas, engage their minds to deepen their awareness. When they’re snakes , ask them to imagine being a giant oak, with roots growing out of the bottoms of their feet. Could you stay in the same position for 100 years? If you were to be chopped down, would that be OK? Would it hurt?
What Stressors Do Kids Face During The Pandemic
Children are always on the move but for the better part of the past year, they had to stay at home because of the virus. That causes an enormous amount of stress and anxiety. Why? They had to distance themselves from their peers and their families—cousins, grandparents, aunts, and uncles. Without their extended families and friends, they struggle with the loneliness of being alone. They have to entertain themselves, play with whoever in the house has time for them, and deal with the monotony.
Being with people improves a child’s development. But for the past year, they were forced to practice distancing. That affects the development of their basic life skills such as cognitive control, communication, creative thinking, emotional reasoning, and interpersonal relations.
Even the presence of online classes doesn’t help. Virtual learning is not for everyone. It is not for a majority of learners. A few people can cope with the idea of not having face-to-face classes, but for the most part, children are better learners in the classroom than in their homes. The disruption of school is also a major reason why children are anxious and depressed. They could no longer ask direct questions to their teachers. They cannot spend time with their classmates.
Kids are at a critical juncture in their lives. During the pandemic, this means they are trying to figure out on their own how to deal with these situations. Parents must do their part in explaining the coronavirus pandemic to them.
Here Are 9 Important Benefits Of Yoga For Kids
1.3KSHARES
Why is yoga for kids important? Kids these days are busy. They go to school all day, have extracurriculars and homework in the evenings, family time and more extracurriculars on the weekends . . . Practicing yoga is important for kids for many of the same reasons it is important for adults. Yoga helps kids to relax, relieve stress and anxiety, sleep better, improve emotional regulation, increase empathy, and improve mood and affect. Practicing yoga with kids also teaches them how to be more mindful, which happens to be just one of the many ways in which we can teach mindfulness to kids. As adults, stress is something that we have learned about and adapted to – from peer pressure to taking the SATs, sending out college applications to getting our first real jobs. Stress is simply a regular part of our lives. For kids, however, stress is something they are only just learning about, and they often don’t know what it is or how to handle it. It’s up to us to provide them with effective and appropriate tools to help them manage their emotions. Aren’t sure about yoga for kids? Check out these Common Myths About Kids Yoga to help you learn more about what kids yoga really is!
Yoga Improves Memory And Cognitive Functioning
Yoga helps to improve memory and cognitive function by creating focus within. Practicing yoga requires concentration of both the mind and the body. We have to pay attention to the movement of our bodies and how our breathing coordinates with those movements. Some yoga poses, particularly balancing poses, require that you concentrate more than other poses. When kids practice yoga, they are essentially practicing their ability to focus on the task at hand. In their day-to-day lives, this translates to better focus and cognitive functioning at school, leading to improved academic achievement.
Reasons You Should Never Start A Yoga Practice
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ali WashingtonAuthor and Life Coach
You know, we yoga fanatics tout the benefits of yoga like it is going out of style. For most of us, it is because yoga has so profoundly changed our lives that we want to shout about it from the rooftops.
Some of us actually DO shout it from the rooftops.
But the truth is, yoga does have a dark side. There are some legitimate reasons why someone may want to consider avoiding starting or maintaining a practice. In order to save you from any pain or suffering, here is the list of reasons why you should skip practice.
Why More Kids Are Learning And Enjoying Yoga
As I stepped on the sharp edge of a Lego buried in our carpet, my temper snapped. “That’s it! I’ve asked you five times to brush your teeth and put away these toys. It’s way past bedtime!”
My 5-year-old son looked up at me over the elaborate helicopter he was building. “Mom, maybe you should take a belly breath.”
arrow-right
My scowl turned into a smile. I’d started teaching him a few yoga poses and breathing exercises at home, like how to dive into dolphin pose to get out the wiggles or explode with a “volcano breath” when his little sister made him mad.
And now here he was, teaching the teacher. I took his good advice and felt more levelheaded after a deep breath.
Although I’ve practiced and taught yoga for two decades, I’ve only recently realized its value for kids. And I’m not the only one: From toddlers to teens, yoga for children is more accessible than ever before. Defined as the union of mind and body, yoga includes everything from simple deep breaths to mellow seated stretches to complex strength-building poses.
According to an article published on the Harvard Health Blog, 3 percent of all children in the United States are practicing yoga — many of them in schools.
Physical benefits of yoga include improved flexibility, balance, strength and cardiovascular health. also shows mental and emotional benefits to youth from ages 5 to 18, including decreased anxiety, boosted concentration and memory, improved confidence and self-esteem, and better academic performance.
Yoga Provides Kids With Little Cardio Workout
Gym classes and extramural sport activities for children are typically aimed at providing some form of cardio workout. This is to keep the heart healthy as well as to help children maintain a healthy weight. Yoga does provide a full-body workout, but it is considered cardio.
The focus of Yoga poses and stretches is to strengthen and tone all major muscle groups. While weight loss or maintenance is possible, it is not as effective as cardio. The argument is that schools should focus on introducing children to cardio workouts for gym classes.
When Is The Right Time To Start Yoga For Kids
So now that we know that yoga for kids is a great idea, when and how should we start teaching it to them?
It is important to have in consideration that the body of a very young child has different proportions than that of an adult and therefore some asanas might need to be modified or postponed for a later time. Also, children need to be able to understand and be willing to follow certain directions.
For most children, a good age to introduce them to yoga is around 7 years old. They are generally excited about doing things they see you do, and they are starting to be more interested in socializing which can help in a class setup as well.
The best way to start children at yoga is to do it through play.
There are game ideas online in which the child would take up the different positions and start to familiarize themselves with the asanas.  You can also use stories or choreography to music. After you understand the idea behind how the games and the stories work, you can even create your own together!
Yoga Increases Determination And Perseverance
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Yoga is a fun activity for kids, in a non-competitive environment, in which they can learn new yoga poses and breathing techniques. When something is fun for kids, they always want to know more. Kids also love the feeling they get when they master the thing they think they cannot do. For example, Crow Pose. While it’s so much fun for kids to practice, it can be difficult. But when they learn how to practice the pose and continue to practice it, they are very excited and want to show everyone the new thing they learned at yoga class! This determination and perseverance leads to the feeling of excitement. When this happens, kids will do anything to keep that feeling. In their day-to-day lives, kids will learn that sticking with something, even when it is difficult, pays off and they will want to bring that feeling of excitement to other areas of their lives.
When Should A Child Start Doing Yoga With You
Where other forms of exercise usually focus only on the physical aspect, yoga is something that not only offers umpteen physical benefits but is also great for the mental and spiritual aspects of the body. There is no rigid timeframe about when your child should begin practising yoga. Toddlerhood holds great significance in a child’s life as this is the transitioning phase from infancy to childhood and toddlers are becoming more aware of their bodies. This is the time when their inquisitiveness is increasing exponentially and they are also mastering various other skills too. Therefore, this can be the right time to teach something as valuable as yoga which has great physical and emotional benefits for your child. It is great to start something so beneficial early in life so that kids can keep reaping its benefits throughout their lives.
Yoga Improves Independence And Coping Skills
As mentioned above, yoga is both a social and individual activity. One of the benefits of practicing an activity that is both individual and social is that it helps kids to recognize what “individual” and “social” mean. Kids rarely do things on their own. After all, they are kids! It’s up to us adults to make most of the decisions for them. However, it is still important that they learn how to do things on their own. Practicing yoga is a great way to introduce independence to your kids because their practice, and what they get out of their practice, is theirs and only theirs. By increasing independence in practice, we are also helping kids to develop their coping skills. As kids, they will have the support of their family and the comfort of familiarity. But this changes as they grow into adolescence and adulthood – peer pressure, graduating high school, going to college, and getting their first “real” job. It is important that kids learn how to be independent and cope on their own while they have the support and guidance from those around them. Otherwise, they will be left with no coping tools under their belt when the time comes for them to be on their own.
It Will Make You Have To Take Responsibility
The mat is generally a mirror for people, and this means you are going to notice all the places you are blaming other people for the things that are going on in your life – and you may discover that it is not really their fault at all.
You may even come to the conclusion that you have the power to stand up and make the changes in your life that will make you happier. If you really like blaming others, yoga may not be that great for you.
Because You’re Already Flexible /good At It
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Yoga works when you’re doing postures that produce sensations, reminding you to breathe, focus your attention and calm the mind from mental chatter. If you’re not feeling anything, then your mind is free to wander, which it often does. Find the little things that turn the posture from one wherein you can hang out without working, to one that engages all your muscles and your mind. Rather than showing off the wonderful gifts you’ve been blessed with, enter the session with a beginner’s mindset.
So while we all know yoga is all sorts of awesome, you probably won’t be able to reap all its benefits if you’re practicing for the wrong reasons. Is there anything I missed that you think should be on this list? Let me know!

Yoga For Kids: Why Teaching It Is Important
Everyone knows that it is essential for kids to be active! However, when thinking about activities for kids, yoga is often the last exercise that comes to mind. It may be surprising to learn, but there are plenty of yoga poses that will benefit kids. Yoga kids are happier and healthier.
There probably isn’t a person in the world who hasn’t heard about yoga! However, the fact that we’ve heard of it doesn’t necessarily mean we understand it. Although people in South Asia, specifically India, have been practicing it for thousands of years, it is a new fashion in Western countries, only a few decades old. Due to the increased stress we’re experiencing in recent years, many people began to search for something that can help them deal with it. And this is where yoga comes in as a discipline that promotes both physical and mental health.
However, even if its popularity is growing and plenty of people find it helpful, it is still an activity reserved for adults. Because of meditation, breathing techniques, and Om, many people believe that it would be difficult for their kids to practice it. It is essential to point out that there is plenty of yoga for kids’ benefits.
Reasons Why Yoga Is Not Good For Christians
Would you agree that there are spiritual forces we cannot see?
You may be surprised to learn that yoga, which many think is “just exercise,” is actually a spiritual practice. Christians may think twice before starting a yoga practice — please.
1. Yoga is Dedicated to a different lord . You can learn more about “The Lord of Yoga” HERE.
2. Yoga leads people away from Christ. Yoga means “to yoke”– and it’s a different yoke than the one Jesus refers to “For My yoke is easy and My burden is light” .
One alternative to this is CERTIFIED PRAISEMOVES INSTRUCTORS who are bringing Christian Fitness Ministry to their churches. What a blessing!
3. Yoga poses are “offerings to the 330 million Hindu gods” . Acts 15:29 says to “abstain from THINGS offered to idols.” Learn more about Yoga poses, breathing and hand gestures HERE.
INSTEAD, PraiseMoves Postures focus on the Word of God we meditate upon or speak aloud while doing stretching, strengthening postures. The Foundation of PraiseMoves is the Word of God. The exercise is the “witty invention” to get you more into the Word of God, and MORE OF THE WORD OF GOD INTO YOU!
4. Yoga has a spiritual nature that is psychic and metaphysical. This is one reason why experts, such as Professor Subhas Tiwari of the Hindu University of America says, “Yoga is Hinduism.”
Professor Tiwari also said, “Efforts to separate yoga from its spiritual center reveal ignorance of the goal of yoga.” .
5. Yoga is “the missionary arm of New Age spirituality.”
Yoga Is Helping Kids Cope With The Pandemic Faith Filled ParentingHealth & Wellness
The pandemic has been a strange and stressful time for families, most of all for children. As adults navigate the work-from-home situation, lockdowns, restrictions, and many other things that the pandemic brought in their lives, the kids are at home trying to figure out how to deal with the pandemic on their own. Don’t forget that like you, kids get stressed and depressed, too. Even now that schools are allowed to hold face-to-face classes, the reality is that their lives are not fully back to normal just yet.
Yoga is not only great for adults. It is good for kids, too. It helps calm their minds and relieves them of the stress of having to stay indoors most of the time. Yoga can be fun and entertaining, too. It doesn’t always have to be a serious activity where no one is allowed to speak and only the rubbing of the yoga mats against the floor can be heard. In kids, yoga can improve resilience, academic performance, memory, focus, and self-esteem. And during this period, yoga will reduce anxiety and the risk of childhood depression.
There Is A Lack Of Competitiveness In Yoga
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Competitiveness is actually quite a controversial topic in the schooling world. Some parents believe in promoting competition in order to drive students to achieve more and to develop strategic teamwork skills. However, other parents oppose competitiveness and feel that children should be encouraged to participate, despite the outcome.
For parents who place importance on competition, Yoga might not seem like a good idea. Yoga is a practice that can be done as a group, but individuals work at their own pace and without comparing their progress to others. It is all a personal experience and journey with Yoga, and children are not required to be remotely competitive with each other in order to participate.
It Will Suck The Fun Out Of Judging People
Again, where pointing out the faults of others used to be kinda fun, now it just feels mean. You are most likely going to want to spend more of your time talking about all the amazing things the people in your life are doing – which may be a bummer for some of your friends out who still enjoy a gossip fest.
Incorrect Yoga Poses Can Lead To Injuries
The reality is that kids can get while practicing Yoga. Much like any sport, doing things incorrectly can lead to injury. Because Yoga involves unusual poses and stretches , doing them improperly can lead to muscle strains. Children can also lose balance and hurt themselves during Yoga practice. Some parents and teachers worry that children might become injured or hurt while practicing.
Yoga Improves Strength And Breath Control
Yoga takes some strength – both mentally and physically. When practiced regularly, we notice many physical and cognitive changes within ourselves, particularly increased flexibility, upper body strength, and mental clarity. All of this newfound strength has much to do with the breath. When we breathe harshly or quickly, we increase muscle tension, reduce focus, and heighten our fight-or-flight response, all of which have detrimental effects on our minds and bodies. Teaching proper breathing techniques, and building physical and mental strength from a young age, helps to reduce the chances of obesity, depression, and depressive symptoms, as well as increases self-esteem, self-confidence, and improves overall wellbeing.
To Please Your Yogi Girlfriend/boyfriend
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Your significant other loves yoga so much that they practically beg you to take a class with them so you can feel as great as they do. But like everything else, you have to believe in it yourself. If you remain close-minded towards all the benefits, then you won’t be able to truly absorb them. Open up to the possibility that yoga can do you good, and you’ll make the most of your 90 minutes. Don’t do it for your girlfriend , do it for yourself.
The Truth About Doing Yoga With Children
Inspired by “Kids Yoga Stories” yoga books and blog, I have started doing yoga with my children. I remembered doing it as a teenager and young adult, and it did wonders for my self-esteem. I thought yoga would be a great way to connect with my children and get into shape at the same time. I found many great apps on my iPad, and we got started. Except it didn’t work out the way I thought it would.
If anybody expected us to breathe and do the poses slowly and with grace and reverence… well, maybe that’s just not us. This is what doing yoga with two little children really looks like …
Imagine you’re on your hands and feet with your bottom in the air in the Downward-Facing Dog Pose. You’re getting uncomfortable and would like to get down on the ground again, except your toddler decides this is just the right moment to crawl under you and you can’t go back on the ground without crushing her. You’re trying to explain breathing techniques except the kids aren’t concentrating, because they’re too busy fighting over toys. You can’t get them to finish most of the yoga poses because they start doing jigsaw puzzles. You finally manage to get your children to do something, and then the baby starts to cry.
Sometimes, I wonder why I ever thought this would be a good idea. But then I remember: After all, they’re only kids!
I decide to let go of my expectations. And this is where we start having fun.
Instead, I focus on the fun stuff.
We’re finally having fun and connecting.
Yoga Teaches Kids To Take A Mental Break
Kids need just as many mental breaks in their day as adults too, but they hardly ever get them. Their little brains are constantly in overdrive – expectations at school, homework, after-school activities, television, video games and technology, etc. Sometimes they just need time to BE, and most often this needs to be taught to them. Yoga encourages silent meditation as the body moves through poses, which helps children learn how to appreciate the stillness of the body and the mind.
What Type Of Class Should I Look Out For
Classes can vary in duration but typically last between 45 and 90 minutes. A longer class will give you more time for learning breathing and relaxation techniques, and will give the teacher time to work with your individual ability.
It’s worth speaking to a teacher about their approach before you sign up for a class.
The Risk Of Inexperienced Yoga Teachers
Tumblr media Tumblr media
There is a general fear that schools might incorporate Yoga in the school day and make use of existing gym teachers and sports coaches to teach Yoga. Yoga should only be taught by a certified and experienced instructor to ensure that injury risk is minimized and that the real essence of Yoga is fully understood. This might be difficult or even costly for schools to ensure that instructors are available for each grade and class with access to Yoga training.
Making Kids Feel Bad About Feeling Sad
One section of the article, titled “Mind and body,” states: “When we feel sad, we can be more likely to get sick.” This is a pretty broad statement that certainly should not be made to children. Did anyone not think this one through? Such a statement will only scare children if they are sad, or make them feel guilty if they are sad or sick, or make them think that if they are sick, it is their fault. This is one example of how uncharitable Yoga-accompanying trendy New Age pseudo-psychology can be.
The remedy offered in the article for this is “If we can learn to release the tension in the body, the mind will relax, too.” This section is for children and they talk about releasing tension? Are we going to start conditioning children to worry about tension? Isn’t that just producing the very thing one is trying to avoid? Children have their own natural, God-given ways to release stress, usually through vigorous play, napping, daydreaming, listening to a story read by Mom or Dad, or some other childlike activity. They do not need an additional worry about releasing tension.
Because You Look Awesome In Yoga Pants
Doing yoga simply because you want to show off your body in a place where it’s socially acceptable to wear stretchy clothes is not a good enough reason to do yoga, and won’t keep you going when your practice gets challenging. Check your ego in at the door, or at least you will when you get on the mat.

Yoga is becoming increasingly popular among American children. A national survey found that 3% of U.S. children did yoga as of 2012 — that’s 400,000 more children than in 2007.
Yoga and mindfulness have been shown to improve both physical and mental health in school-age children . Yoga improves , strength, endurance, and aerobic capacity in children. Yoga and mindfulness offer psychological benefits for children as well. A growing body of research has already shown that yoga can improve focus, , self-esteem, academic performance, and classroom behavior and can even reduce anxiety and stress in children.
Jessica Mei Gershen, a certified yoga instructor who teaches yoga to children at Brooklyn Yoga Project and founder of Yoga For All Needs, recommends making yoga playful and fun for kids, whether in the classroom or at home. In her yoga classes, Gershen weaves in fun games and stories with positive themes like compassion, gratitude, and strength.

Reasons Why Yoga For Kids Is Important
Yoga is the fountain of youth. You’re only as young as your spine is flexible.~ Bob Harper
Yoga is becoming increasingly popular around the world. More people have an understanding of the benefits it brings to its practitioners, and given that there are so many variations there is a type of yoga for everyone, but what about kids? Is yoga for kids something we should even consider teaching—especially at a young age? Are there preferable ways to get children interested in this discipline? Is there any benefit of getting kids into Yoga? The answers to all of these are a huge yes!
Practice At Different Times Of The Day
Maybe you practice first thing in the morning because your kids are still in bed and it’s the only time you have to yourself. Don’t drag your kids out of bed so that they can squeeze in a morning yoga practice. Try practicing at different times of the day to see which times your kids respond to best. There is no right or wrong time to practice yoga, but there is likely a time of day in which your kids will be more willing to practice. That is the time when they will reap the most benefits of practicing!
Because You Only Want To Become Bendy
Yes, yoga definitely helps increase flexibility, but it’s only one of the many benefits you’ll get from a regular practice. While yoga is a great way to open up tight hamstrings, shoulders, and hips, you’ll find that in all poses, there are also other elements being worked . There are no isolated benefits in your asana practice, and your goal in yoga will shift over time as you become more aware of your body and what it truly needs.
Yoga Allows Kids To Feel Accomplished
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Yoga teaches kids to accept their bodies and how to improve flexibility, stamina, and strength. Yoga poses and flows are broken down step by step and not only are they fun, they are also challenging. In fact, the concept of failure is never introduced in yoga. This helps instil a sense of accomplishment that translates into other daily activities.
Do Not Worry About Mastering The Pose
The yoga activities for toddlers can not be about doing everything perfectly and the same goes for mastering the pose. We know you want your kiddo to master the correct pose but you cannot expect that to happen it in a span of few days only. Give it time and, soon, your kid may just practice the yoga poses perfectly. Also, being too rigid about perfecting the pose can be a complete put off for the young kids and they may no longer find it fun!
Yoga Teaches Kids Calming Techniques
Most children are never taught how to express themselves appropriately, and so they deal with frustration by crying or throwing tantrums. Children are never too young to learn the breathing techniques that are used in yoga to calm the body and the mind. With time they will inevitably learn how to apply those calming tools in their everyday lives and react to any situation in an appropriate manner.
What Yoga Poses Can Kids Start Doing
There are eight yoga poses that most kids can do easily. These are the child’s pose, the tree pose, the thunderbolt pose, the frog pose, the crocodile pose, the standing forward bend pose, the cobra pose, and the legs up the wall pose. All of these are designed to help their minds and bodies relax. These are not yoga poses to lose weight or tone muscles. These are all for relaxation and calmness—the two things kids need right now.
Don’t be afraid if your kids can’t easily remember or even do these poses. The yoga teacher will help calm their minds first so they can hold these poses for a long time. That’s why you need someone who does this professionally. Your limited knowledge about yoga may not be enough to guide your kids to master the poses.
What Are The Health Benefits Of Yoga
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Dozens of scientific trials of varying quality have been published on yoga.
While there’s scope for more rigorous studies on its health benefits, most studies suggest yoga is a safe and effective way to increase physical activity, especially strength, flexibility and balance.
There’s some evidence that regular yoga practice is beneficial for people with high blood pressure, heart disease, aches and pains – including lower back pain – depression and stress.
Why Your Child Should Be Doing Yoga
Not only can it help kids relax, but pediatricians say the ancient practice may also be a helpful treatment for asthma, autism, and more.
Here’s a trick that usually calms my children anytime they have more energy than their little body can contain. I simply ask them to touch their toes. Filled with giggles, my kids, ages 4 and 6, spill over their legs, grasping their feet with ten wriggling fingers. “Think you can keep touching your toes to the count of ten?” I ask next. If I’m doing this at bedtime, it’s usually a matter of seconds before one of the two is yawning. That’s because — as I learned when I was training to become a yoga instructor — simply bending forward is calming.
Yoga has been around for thousands of years, but the focus on children continues to grow. In fact, to answer the increasing demand for instructors qualified to teach kids, the Yoga Alliance developed guidelines for teachers and schools so they can be credentialed in children’s yoga. Although there are currently more than 430 instructors who have registered under the new specialty, it’s safe to assume that the numbers are actually higher because registration is voluntary.

How Is Yoga Beneficial For Toddlers
The present generation, including toddlers, has developed an increased dependence on various kinds of electronics. This over-dependence on electronics takes a toll on the health of kids and involving young minds in activities such as yoga for little kids, helps them in channelling their energy in positive and ways. It also works well as an emotional regulation tool.
Undoubtedly, one of the best indoor activities for growing kids, yoga, has umpteen health and wellness benefits for young kids. Regular yoga practice is great for building flexibility and strength in toddlers. It is also beneficial for increasing better coordination, body balance, and awareness in young growing minds.
Yoga works as a great social activity, as it is a great way of teaching your little one about following instructions, developing confidence and trying new things by imitating others. Again, yoga is also a great physical activity in developing motor skills in young kids.
How Yoga Helps Your Family Connect
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Sharing a yoga class with your child can also help deepen your connection with your children. You’re connecting movement with each breath you take, connecting with your inner self, and connecting with others — in this case, with your child.
There are two varieties of kid-friendly yoga poses you can try at home. The first promotes stillness and grounding. Here are a few examples:
Advertising Policy
Happy baby pose: Lie on your back. Bend your knees into your belly and exhale. As you inhale, grab the outsides of your feet. Open your knees and bring them up toward your armpits.
Mountain pose: Stand tall with feet parallel and relax your tailbone down for a neutral pelvis. Lift up through the spine. Tuck chin in slightly, and keep head balanced over your shoulders.
The other variety of poses promotes balance. Here are a couple of examples:
: Stand tall on one foot and turn the opposite knee out. Then place the sole of the opposite foot onto your ankle, calf or thigh. Put your palms together in front of your heart or face them with palms up.
: Stand in mountain pose. Step back with one foot, angle it out while bending your front knee. Then bring your arms straight up and look up.
Practice these poses through a game of mirroring. Children are curious and imitate what others do. Invite them to try a pose and don’t worry if it’s right or wrong, just as long as it’s safe.
Yoga Improves Social Relationships
Yoga is typically regarded as an individual activity. While that is partially true, there is a social component to yoga. We go to yoga classes with other people and take part in the yoga community where we can share our experiences with others. For kids, the entire yoga practice is a social one. Yoga for kids typically includes songs, games, and other fun activities that get kids moving together and learning from one another, particularly with partner yoga poses. This creates a positive, engaging environment in which kids can have fun, talk to one another, and learn to trust one another. Yoga also helps to cultivate increased self-esteem, self-confidence, and empathy within kids, which translates to more positive relationships with others by reflecting their positive attitude toward themselves onto others.
Social Emotional Health Highlights
Activities such as these help children explore…
Self-Management and Self-Awareness: Practicing yoga and mindfulness with children supports them in identifying feelings and emotions while learning to manage their reactions and behaviors in healthy ways that work best for them. Stretching or practicing yoga, helps children to rec-center attention on the present moment and begin to build capacity and self-regulation within themselves.
Learn To Teach How Children Learn
Yoga with children offers many possibilities to exchange wisdom, share good times, and lay the foundation for a lifelong practice that will continue to deepen. All that’s needed is a little flexibility on the adult’s part because, as I quickly found out when I first started teaching the practice to preschoolers, yoga for children is quite different than yoga for adults.
Six years ago, I had my first experience teaching yoga to kids at a local Montessori school. I looked forward to the opportunity with confidence—after all, I’d been teaching yoga to adults for quite a while, had two young children of my own, and had taught creative writing for several years in various Los Angeles schools. But after two classes with a group of 3 to 6-year-olds, I had to seriously reevaluate my approach. I needed to learn to let go of my agenda and my expectations of what yoga is and is not.
When I began to honor the children’s innate intelligence and tune in to how they were instructing me to instruct them, we began to co-create our classes. We used the yoga asanas as a springboard for exploration of many other areas—animal adaptations and behavior, music and playing instruments, storytelling, drawing—and our time together became a truly interdisciplinary approach to learning. Together we wove stories with our bodies and minds in a flow that could only happen in child’s play.
3 Ways to Get Kids Stoked About Yoga
Partner Poses For Older Children
Tumblr media Tumblr media
As you practice partner poses with an older child, you learn to support and balance each other, establishing trust at the same time. Watch this video for a routine you can do at home.
Yoga allows you to simply relax while spending time together and learning together. It cultivates this sense of open-minded acceptance between you and your child.
It Is A Non Competitive Activity
Many kids are attracted by the idea of engaging in some sort of sport but don’t want to be put in a position to compete against other children. That may not sit well with some kids, and they might give up altogether. Yoga, on the other hand, is not competitive at all. You practice yoga for yourself; you adjust all the postures to your abilities and you’re not affected by the performance of others in any way. That is why we should do yoga with kids.
Use Simple Yet Engaging Language
You cannot simply expect your kid to follow you as you practice poses rather you need to give instructions and guide your kiddo all through the session. Make your instructions fairly simple yet engaging so that your kiddo is engrossed in the activity. Modulating your voice is also a great tool for adding that fun element to the session. Use various sounds such as making out animal sounds while doing animal yoga poses.
Reasons Why Kids Should Do Yoga
We have all heard about or personally felt the benefits of yoga for our physical, mental, and spiritual health. The sense of calm and feeling of strength post-yoga practice is undeniable. Yoga is a great activity for kids to try, whether it be done alone, in a group, or with the entire family. Without a doubt, practising yoga on a regular basis will help your kids feel great and keep their bodies and minds in motion.
Yoga Can Be An Individual Sport
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In a world where team sports are held up on high on a pedestal, many kids feel unaccomplished and excluded if they don’t belong to a team. The beauty of yoga is that it can be practised in a group, and even better, independently. Children learn that there is no one better or worse at yoga than anyone else, and that physical abilities differ from person to person.
Yoga Reduces Stress And Anxiety
Improving mood also means reducing stress and anxiety. Those same endorphins that increase mood and affect also reduce stress and anxiety. Did you know that we physically hold negative emotions in our bodies, usually in our necks and lower backs? Sometimes experiencing negative emotions is a good thing, but only in small doses. For kids, it is important that we teach them the balance between negative and positive emotions. When we are ready to let go of all of that negativity, practicing yoga helps to reduce stress and anxiety by relieving tension throughout the body, literally releasing the built-up negativity kids have stored within their bodies.

1/31/2020 - can’t sleep. Today was a shit day. in the last 2 weeks I’ve been late to work twice because I keep on over sleeping like by hours.
Last Thursday- found out a library kid died from asthma.
Had a “talk” with a supervisor which means they talk and I sit there and listen. Apparently I need to stay more professional on our Intranet discussion webpage. So what did I post? 1) can we get something other than carpet because after 10 years the carpets and gross. 2) can we put reading counts info in books lightly in pencil in books, answer to someone bitching about Harry Potter programs, oh and a test post. Every time I got into a library themed message board, mailing list, community I get called in and told to be professional. Well hell, tell me at least what you consider professional.....oh wait. Being professional is sitting there and telling how wonderful my employers are and how I love my library system! And how there is nothing EVER wrong in my library system.
Sigh, all they want is positive shit. They never talk about the negative shit that’s wrong within the system. Like Karen. At one point two employees were coming in 30 minutes to an hour late. Then our boss would just change their time cards so it looked like they were coming in at the right time. When I spoke to my bosses’ supervisor Karen said I was a bully and she would do everything in her power to get me fire. This was a few years back but now Karen is a district manager. The fear is real people.
I’m considering making a fake email account and putting all the nasty shit I know about my job somewhere online. And there is a lot of nasty shit. I’m not saying that they’re sexist and racist, but it’s funny how all the top positions are white men. Just saying.
I know right now that part of this is the depression taking. My mom’s chemo is not going well. She has stage 4 breast cancer on her rib and stage 1 colon cancer. Her blood cell count is really low. Because I am always sick we’re trying to stay away from each other.
Still trying to figure out what to do about my medications. I’ worried that my epilepsy meds have been covering up that I’m bipolar. I mean, we don’t know for sure that I’m bipolar but boy would it explain a hell of a lot.
S was out sick. We’re assuming that it was one of her kids. So it was just me and J. J getting the promotion to head of CATS has changed her a bit like I knew it would She’s just so “professional” now and she’s trying to distance herself from us. S and I have ready started keeping secrets from her. I knew this would happen. I kinda wish she hadn’t gotten the job.
My pharmacy was two days late getting me my blood pressure medicine (ha! the top number right now is over 190.) and of course the other was my meds for depression. So all I can do it sit in bed and cry. Pathetic. Don't feel like talking to a human.
Feel like I can’t do anything right. Hoping my meds will kick in but its 2:57 at night. not much hope of that. Sad enough today that I wrote out my resignation. AGain.

Feeling stress is totally normal, but it’s not good for you. Knowing how to relax is vital for ensuring your health and well-being, as well as restoring the passion and joy in your life. Allowing stress to affect you can lead to depression, illness, weight gain and a general sense of malcontent. Learn to recognize stress and deal with it by calming your mind and your body. It’s also a good idea to spend time doing things that you love. Finally, you’ll likely feel more relaxed if you learn to deal with difficult people.
EditSteps
EditAcknowledging Stress and Changing Your Mindset
Recognize the mental symptoms of stress. Some stress can be positive. In small doses, it can make you motivated and energized. But if the level of stress in your life causes you to put up with things that are harming or distressing you constantly, you risk sliding into being too stressed.[1] You could be too stressed if:
You can’t stop thinking about work. It might be your own business, a career, a salaried position, a stay-at-home mom or dad position, or anything else that is soaking up your time and life one hundred percent, and this over-concentration is leaving you passionless, disappointed, unhappy, and unfulfilled.
You're often irritable, short-tempered, and perhaps unable to focus on completing tasks.
You feel as if you have too much going on and that you can't hop off the merry-go-round.
You can't remember the last time you had a good laugh and your sense of humor is sadly lacking.
Notice if stress is affecting your body. Stress doesn’t just manifest itself in your head. It can also cause a lot of physical issues. You might be too stressed if you:[2]:
Experience frequent body tension, including headaches, neck aches, backaches, and general soreness.
Have a hard time sleeping or find that you’re sleeping too much.
Experience changes in your appetite.
Set aside time to relax. Once you have accepted that there are negative stressors impacting your life, it's important to make room for relaxation amid all of the other things in your life. Find a method of scheduling relaxation that works for you.[3]
Block out times in your day to relax. Think of it as an appointment with your most important client that you absolutely cannot skip or break. Write it on your calendar or set a reminder on your phone.
You could write “Take a yoga class, 2-3 p.m. Wednesday afternoon.” Schedule time to relax in the same way you would schedule meeting up with a friend or going to the doctor.
Let go of guilt you might feel for taking time off. With the advent of smart technology that keeps us hyper-wired 24/7, you might feel like you have to be "on-the-go" constantly. This can end up wearing you down. Give yourself permission to relax.[4]
You might even write this down. A post-it note on your mirror that says, "You deserve a bubble bath after work!" is a great way to remind yourself that it is okay to relax.
Practice positive thinking. Positive thinking can do wonders for your mental health. Try changing the way you talk to yourself. Avoid criticizing yourself and work on changing negative thoughts into positive ones.[5].
For example, instead of thinking, "Why am I so stressed? I should be able to handle all this!", switch to "Wow, I've been working really hard. I deserve to relax a little."
If you make a mistake, don't chastise yourself. Instead, acknowledge what went wrong and give yourself a pep talk about doing better next time.
Use visualization techniques. While you might not feel calm and relaxed, imagining a calm and relaxed scene in your mind can do wonders to improve your outlook. Picture beaches, lying down resting, going for a hike, etc., to help you stay relaxed.
Use affirmations to change your outlook on life. Affirmations are a great way to stop yourself from jumping to negative conclusions. Affirmations are short, powerful statements that build you up and increase your confidence, helping you to expect positive outcomes.[6]
A good affirmation might be, "I am strong and I can face these challenges because I have a positive attitude."
Learn to prioritize. Make a list of tasks for the day. Organize the list by importance, and be proactive. Take care of things before they become a big problem. Time spent more productively means more free time to relax.[7]
Make sure your work is done. Although this may sound counteractive to your goal of relaxing, procrastination never feels as good as having nothing to do. Get your tasks done now, and then you can truly relax.
EditReducing Tension in Your Body
Practice deep breathing when you're stressed. Slow down your breathing and actively concentrate on it. Breathe in through your nose while counting slowly to 4 or 5 and then exhale out your mouth while doing the same count.[8]
Doing this will relax your muscles and nerves. As you breathe out, visualize the stress and tension leaving your body through your breath.
Eat a healthy diet to feel your best. Eating well can help your body feel balanced and healthy. This can you less susceptible to spikes in blood sugar and feelings of anxiety. It will also help you to have more energy![9]
Eat fresh fruits, vegetables and whole grains each meal. For example, you could have a veggie omelet, some berries, and whole grain toast for breakfast.
Eat plenty of healthy proteins, such as chicken, fish, whole grains, legumes, dark leafy vegetables or low-fat dairy. Try tofu for a vegetarian option.
Avoid sugary foods like granola bars, pastries or sodas.
Avoid excessive caffeine. Too much caffeine can make you jumpy and irritable. Try not to drink caffeine after 1 or 2 in the afternoon. Try an herbal tea instead of coffee
Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water.
Exercise every day. This is a great way to reduce stress. As a bonus, it's great for your physical health, too! You'll be amazed at how much easier it is to overcome stress if you exercise regularly. [10] Try doing some of the following:
Aim for at least thirty minutes per day of moderate activity.
Walk in the park, in the woods, or on a treadmill.
Take the stairs instead of the elevator.
Park a little further away from the entrance of a store.
Ride a bike.
Go swimming. Try your local pool, a nearby lake or a friend or relative's home. You do not have to be an excellent swimmer; just the idea of being in water could be relaxing enough.
Stretch. Lower your shoulders to help relax. Be more consciously aware of the tension that is quick to accumulate in your shoulders and neck region.
Try a massage to soothe tense muscles. Go to your local spa for a great massage. Undoing the body knots is a good pathway to undoing the mind knots. Ask a friend or family member to recommend a good massage therapist.
If that's not in your budget, ask your partner or a friend to give you a shoulder rub. Or go get a pedicure so that you get a foot rub!
Make good sleep a priority. Try to get 7-9 hours of sleep each night. This will help you feel refreshed and ready to face the day. Get into a routine of going to bed at the same time each night and getting up at the same time each day.[11]
Turn off electronics at least an hour before bed so that your mind has time to wind down.
Create a soothing nighttime routine, such as reading a chapter of a book or taking a warm shower.
EditDoing Relaxing Activities
Draw a warm bath. Warm water can be incredibly soothing. Fill up the tub and then create an atmosphere that relaxes you. You could light candles around the tub, dim the lights, or add bubbles. Lavender is a relaxing scent, so you could add some lavender oil to the tub, too.[12]
You could read a magazine in the bath, listen to music, or just close your eyes and chill.
Read a good book. Reading is a great way to escape from reality. Find a comfy spot and settle in. You could curl up on the couch with a blanket and a cup of chamomile tea, for example.
If you're feeling anxious, avoid reading a scary thriller. That won't help you feel calm.
Practice meditation. Remove all thoughts and emotions from your mind by concentrating on your breathing. Meditation takes you into focusing on your whole being as a form of relaxation. It can take a while to master, but it is well worth the effort.[13]
Begin with a sitting posture for a minimum of 15 minutes per session and build up to 45–60 minutes per session.
Try to meditate regularly. Even 5 minutes a day is great!
Find a respected mentor if you are having difficulty learning meditation by yourself.
Avoid being intense, competitive, or frustrated about meditating – all of these emotions defeat the purpose!
Consider self-hypnosis. Focus on something, take a few deep breaths and let yourself become hypnotized. If you have trouble with self-hypnosis, go to a licensed hypnotherapist. Do not allow an amateur to try to hypnotize you, as that might end up being stressful.
Do an activity you truly enjoy to relax. The most important part of relaxing is to choose the method that's right for you. Think about the things in life that you truly enjoy and make time to do them. For example, you could:
Go fishing, sew, sing, paint or take photographs.
Try singing a song using numbers instead of words. Singing can help to distract you from stress to suddenly relax.
Use music as relaxation therapy. Play it as loudly or as softly as you like, whichever calms you the most.
Spend time with your pet. Cuddle or play with your pets. They'll love it and so will you. Talk to your pet about all the stress and anxiety you've been going through and you'll feel a lot better. Pet therapy is a genuine means for relaxing.[14]
If you don't have a pet, ask a friend if you can spend time with theirs. Many cities also now have cat cafes where you can go and hang out with cats for a small fee.
Smile and laugh. Laughter is the best medicine. Rent, buy or see a hilarious movie. Smiling and laughing releases endorphins, which fights stress, helps to relax and reminds you that life is more than just work. Even if it feels strange at first, make it a point to smile more often.[15]
You could also go to a comedy show or make a date to hang out with your funniest friend.
EditStaying Relaxed Around Stressful People
Create space between yourself and highly stressed people. Being around people who are too stressed can rub off on you. If you need to be around them, try imagining an invisible boundary (like a wall) exists between you. This is really a visualization technique, in which you imagine that you are cocooned against the negative vibes of overly stressed people around you. See their behavior and attitudes for what they are, recognize what their stress is doing to them but refuse to let this penetrate your shield.[16]
Separating yourself from other people's stress can be hard at first, especially if you are empathic by nature, but keep practicing until not giving in to their negativity becomes second nature.
Disconnect from toxic people. Put the phone back down, shut the email folder, walk away. Whenever you feel like making an instantaneous reply in anger to someone who has raised your ire, don't act on it[17]. When we feel angry and stressed, we are more likely to read sinister interpretations into our interactions and if we act on them, our self-righteous anger can be self-fulfilling when the person responds negatively. Sleep on your angry missive and practice some relaxation techniques.
Write a draft of your response and let it sit for a day. If everything in it is just as true and valid to you 24 hours later, consider sending it. If not, you'll be grateful you held off.
Walk away and decompress. Instead of acting in anger, remove yourself from the situation until your calm has returned.
Avoid toxic personalities. Spend less time with people who try to guilt you into doing things or tell you that you're not good enough. Yes, even if they're family.
Steer clear of people who are constantly complaining. Stress can be contagious, so avoid transmitters. It's great to be supportive of others. But if they don't seem to want your help, or seem to just want to drag you down, it might be time for some space.
Give hugs. Go on the positive offensive and reach through to people who seem down and negative. Caring touch reduces stress and promotes relaxation. Say hello and goodbye to your friends and family members with a hug, and don't be afraid to comfort someone with a hug, or ask for a hug when you're feeling overwhelmed.
Know when to cut ties. It can be challenging to realize that there are people who are just too toxic or too needy to keep in your inner circle. They might sap your energy and stress you out. Sometimes it's best to let go, provided you do so after thinking it through carefully. Avoid being judgmental, hurtful, or blunt; just move on as you need to. Take some time to evaluate the people in your life and take action if they are:
Manipulative or controlling
A toxic friend
A toxic partner

EditTips
De-clutter your home or living space. It is very hard to relax in a house where stuff is always in the way, ruling your life.
Download e-books on relaxation. Use controlled breathing, muscle tensing and relaxing, affirmations (which become your own subliminal messages to your subconscious), and visualization to experience the full impact of total relaxation.
Put yourself first sometimes, we often think about everybody's problems and we get more stressed every day.
EditWarnings
Consult your physician if stress is causing serious symptoms, such as headaches, poor appetite or general fatigue.
Thousands of people become unknowingly addicted to drugs and alcohol in times of severe stress. One of the hardest parts of dealing with stress is recognizing it and avoiding temptations that mask it rather than remedy it.

8 Cat’s Claw Benefits
8 Cat’s Claw Benefits
1. Treats Arthritis
Multiples studies have confirmed using cat’s claw to naturally improve both osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis symptoms. In a 2001 study, 45 subjects suffering from osteoarthritis of the knee either took 100 milligrams per day of freeze-dried cat’s claw or a placebo for four weeks. Researchers found that “pain associated with activity, medical and patient assessment scores were all significantly reduced with benefits occurring within the first week of therapy.” Knee pain at rest or at night and knee circumference were not significantly reduced by cat’s claw during the short trial, but results led researchers to conclude that cat’s claw is an effective treatment for osteoarthritis with no significant side effects. (3)
A study published in the Journal of Rheumatology looked at the effects of cat’s claw on patients with active rheumatoid arthritis (RA) currently taking conventional RA medicines. In this double-blind study, 24 weeks of treatment with the cat’s claw extract resulted in a reduction of the number of painful joints compared to the placebo. The extract was obtained from a specific strain of cat’s claw that contains pentacyclic oxindole alkaloids, which are compounds that appear to be immune system modulators. (4)
2. May Fight Cancer
Scientific studies suggest cat’s claw may help kill tumor and cancer cells in test tubes. A 2001 in vivo study demonstrated that the bark of cat’s claw (Uncaria tomentosa) prevented the growth of human breast cancer cell line MCF7 by having antimutagenic and antiproliferative effects on the cancer cells. (5)
Cat’s claw has also demonstrated its ability to fight against leukemia. A 2006 study published in the British Journal of Haematology was the first to investigate the antiproliferative and apoptotic effects of five highly purified oxindole alkaloids of Uncaria tomentosa, including isopteropodine, pteropodine, isomitraphylline, uncarine F and mitraphylline. Four of the five alkaloids inhibited the proliferation of human leukemia cells in the lab, but the researchers found that cat’s claw pteropodine and uncarine F both were especially impressive. These alkaloids were most potent in both inhibiting the growth of human leukemia cells from and inducing the cells to undergo programmed cell death or apoptosis. This points toward these specific alkaloids having significant potential to not only stop cancer from continuing to grow, but also killing the cancer cells themselves. (6)
A 2015 study also found that the cat’s claw might be especially beneficial to advanced cancer patients by improving their quality of life and reducing fatigue. (7) All of this makes cat’s claw a potentially effective natural cancer treatment.
3. Repairs DNA
In vivo studies have shown that water-soluble extracts of cat’s claw (C-Med-100) can enhance DNA repair, mitogenic response and leukocyterecovery after chemotherapy-induced DNA damage. Chemotherapy is a common conventional cancer treatment with many negative side effects, including damage to the DNA of healthy cells.
A 2001 study looked at the effects of using a water-soluble cat’s claw extract (250 and 350 milligrams per day) for eight weeks on adult volunteers who had previously received chemotherapy. The results were truly awesome. There was a significant decrease of DNA damage and an increase of DNA repair in both cat’s claw supplement groups compared to the non-supplement group. The supplement groups also had an increase in white blood cell proliferation, which is also a huge finding since chemotherapy commonly reduces white blood cell counts and increases infection risk. (8)
A 2006 study wanted to evaluate the ability of a water-soluble cat’s claw extract to enhance DNA repair in human skin. Using skin cultures, researchers found that the extract protected human skin cells from death induced by ultraviolet radiation. How? By increasing the ability of skin cells to repair the DNA damage done by UV light. Researchers conclude that cat’s claw extract should be considered for use as a natural sunscreen. (9)
4. Lowers High Blood Pressure
Studies of cat’s claw as a treatment for hypertension indicate that it may be helpful in naturally reducing high blood pressure. In Traditional Chinese Medicine, a variety of cat’s claw (Uncaria rhynchophylla) has been used to lower blood pressure as well as improve various neurological symptoms. Cat’s claw has also been shown to inhibit platelet aggregation and blood clot formation. This means that cat’s claw could likely be helpful in warding off heart attacks and strokes by not only decreasing blood pressure and increasing circulation, but by also inhibiting the formation of plaque and blood clots in the arteries, heart and brain. (10)
Cat’s claw’s ability to improve blood pressure has been attributed to an alkaloid called hirsutine. This health-promoting alkaloid has been found to specifically act at the calcium channels of the heart and blood vessels as a calcium channel blocker. (11) Why is this significant? Calcium channel blockers can lower blood pressure by blocking calcium from entering the cells of the heart and blood vessel walls. Calcium channel blockers also widen and relax the blood vessels themselves, which helps blood flow in a healthy, smooth manner.
5. Boosts Immune Function
Both animal and human studies have demonstrated cat claw’s powerful immune-boosting abilities. In one animal study, researchers gave subjects a water-soluble extract of cat’s claw (Uncaria tomentosa) for eight weeks. They found that this supplementation significantly elevated subjects’ infection-fighting white blood cell count. Researchers also observed a repair of DNA, both single and double strand breaks. These two highly impressive findings came with no signs of acute or chronic toxicity in the animal subjects. (11)
Another human study had adults supplement with cat’s claw for two months before receiving pneumonia vaccination. The results showed “statistically significant immune enhancement” in the individuals taking the cat’s claw supplements compared to the untreated control group. (12) While I’m by no means promoting pneumonia vaccinations (especially when there are great natural ways to prevent and treat pneumonia symptoms), it’s an impressive study of cat’s claw and its immune-boosting effects in humans.
6. May Aid in HIV Treatment
Some people with serious viral infections like HIV use cat’s claw as a dietary supplement. They choose cat’s claw because it has been shown to strengthen the immune system. In Southern Africa, HIV and AIDS are major health problems with an estimated 25.5 million people living with HIV in sub-Saharan Africa. (13) The use of traditional remedies like cat’s claw for HIV and AIDS is very common in Africa.
However, a 2011 study showed that natural remedies like cat’s claw can have “potentially significant reactions” with antiretrovirals conventionally used to slow down the progression of HIV. (14) Until more substantial human research is conducted, combining cat’s claw with conventional medicines does not appear to be a good idea since it can may lead to unwanted interactions. Controlled clinical trials are also lacking, but at least one uncontrolled study has suggested a positive effect on lymphocytes (white blood cells) in HIV-positive individuals. (15)
7. Combats Herpes
Cat’s claw also appears to have positive immune system effects when it comes to herpes. The herpes virus can live dormant inside a person’s immune system for a lifetime, periodically causing blisters that burst and turn into open cold sores or ulcers before healing.
A 2011 study published in Food and Chemical Toxicology looked at the effects of different preparations of Uncaria tomentosa on herpes in vitro and found they exhibited antimutagenic and antiherpetic activities. The herpes-fighting ability of cat’s claw is associated with its polyphenols working synergistically with its oxindole alkaloids or quinovic acid glycosides. (16)
8. Improves Digestive Problems like Crohn’s Disease
Researchers are looking into the possible benefits of cat’s claw for people suffering from Crohn’s disease. Crohn’s is an inflammatory bowel disease that causes inflammation of the lining of your digestive tract, which can lead to abdominal pain, severe diarrhea, fatigue, weight loss and malnutrition. Cat’s claw, specifically Uncaria tomentosa, is believed to be able to help fight the inflammation associated with Crohn’s. A dosage of 250 milligrams per day is a recommendation for Crohn’s sufferers. (17) If you can naturally calm the inflammation, unwanted Crohn’s symptoms should improve greatly.
Cat’s claw is also used to treat a wide array of digestive disorders, including colitis, diverticulitis, gastritis, hemorrhoids, stomach ulcers and leaky gut syndrome.

9 Yoga Tips to Overcome Anxiety disorder
Stress, fear, anxiety – if we start counting all those instances in life when we experienced these emotions, we may just lose count! Anxiety about the result of a Board exam or the reaction of our parents to the report card; nervousness about the first date or a job interview – we all would have lived through these moments. A little bit of fear is normal; in fact, just like salt in the food, it is needed so that we remain disciplined, focused and dynamic.
The problem starts when this fear becomes persistent and so intimidating as to start interfering with our everyday life. Then it becomes an anxiety disorder, a state of excessive uneasiness, worry, or fear of the unknown, which needs to be treated, and this is where yoga can help.
It’s also good to know that yoga alone should not be considered as the only treatment option. It should complement proper medication after consultation with a doctor or specialist. The doctor would guide you on the condition better and help you understand the type of anxiety disorder you may have – Panic Disorder, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, Social Anxiety Disorder, or Generalized Anxiety Disorder, to name a few.
Note: Allopathic medicines may have side effects; you may consider alternate lines of treatment such as Homoeopathy and Ayurveda.
How to know if you have anxiety disorder?
You feel unusually panicky, scared and uneasy.
You tend to get uncontrolled, obsessive thoughts of past traumatic experiences.
You wake up from frequent nightmares.
You tend to repeatedly wash your hands.
You have problems sleeping.
Your hands and feet stay unusually sweaty.
You get frequent palpitations.
How can yoga help get over anxiety?
Regular yoga practice can help you stay calm and relaxed in daily life and can also give you the strength to face events as they come without getting restless. Yoga practice ideally includes the complete package of asanas (body postures), pranayamas (breathing techniques), meditation, and the ancient yoga philosophy, all of which has helped several anxiety patients recover and face life with new positivity and strength.
Shares Sushama Goyal, homemaker, “I would always remain tense and worried about little things in life. Every small or big event would shake me up. My husband decided to consult a doctor who told us that I had generalized anxiety disorder. I underwent treatment for the same, along with regular practice of yoga and meditation for about six months. And today I feel I have got a new birth. My thinking has changed, I feel much settled from within, and I have faith that whatever will happen will be for the good. I’m not scared of the future anymore! Yoga gave me this strength.”
Like Sushama, even you can say hello to a positive, fear-free life with yoga. The following yoga techniques can help calm an unsettled mind.
#1: Move your body and relieve your mind of stress with asanas.
These yoga postures can help achieve a happy and healthy mind and body. Asanas help release tension and negativity from the system.
Dhanurasana (Bow Pose)
Matsyasana (Fish Pose)
Janu Shirsasana (One-Legged Forward Bend)
Setubandhasana (Bridge Pose)
Marjariasana (Cat Stretch)
Paschimottanasana (Two-Legged Forward Bend)
Hastapadasana (Standing Forward Bend)
Adhomukha Shwanasana (Downward Facing Dog)
Shirshasana (Headstand)
Shavasana (Corpse Pose)
Note:At the end of the yoga posture session, lie down inYoga Nidra to give your mind and body a few minutes of through relaxation. The technique is helpful in flushing out body toxins, a primary cause of stress, from the system.
#2: Breathe right with pranayamas to relieve anxiety
Taking your attention to the breath can help free the mind of the unnecessary clutter of thoughts that breed anxiety. Try the following breathing practices:
Kapal Bhati Pranayama (Skull-Shining Breathing Technique) Bhastrika Pranayama Nadi Shodhan Pranayama (Alternate Nostril Breathing) – effective in releasing stress from the system (where the exhalation is longer than the inhalation) Bhramari Pranayama (Bee Breath)
#3: Meditate to enjoy the gift of a relaxed mind
Meditation can be an excellent technique to relax a distracted mind, give you a sense of calm and peace, and also observe with daily practice how your mind works to keep you involved in small, petty things around. It can also help you not worry too much or get anxious of the unknown future.
You might have often heard the term ‘adrenalin rush’. This happens when we get too anxious about a potential threat. For instance, while taking an adventure ride. At such a time, the level of adrenalin hormone goes higher, leading our heart to beat faster, making the muscles tense and our body sweat profusely. Scientific research has shown that regular meditation practice can help significantly reduce the level of this stress hormone.
#4: Apply yoga philosophy in your life; stay happy and enjoy every moment
Knowing and applying the ancient yoga knowledge in daily life, which talks about some simple yet profound principles (yamas and niyamas) of yoga, can be the secret to happy and healthy living. For instance, the Santosha principle (niyama) teaches the value of contentment. The Aprigraha principle can help us overcome greediness or the desire to keep possessing more, which can be a reason for stress and anxiety. Also, the Shaucha principle talks about cleanliness of the mind and body. This rule can particularly help if you tend to get too anxious about catching infectious diseases.
The yamas and niyamas of yoga will also help us eat nutritious food and live a healthy lifestyle which greatly helps to overcome anxiety and stress. To understand the yoga philosophy, you may consider reading Sri Sri Ravi Shankar’s Commentary on Patanjali Yoga Sutras.
#5: Pray, keep faith and smile!
Prayer is the best form of reassurance and support to keep you anxiety-free. Developing habits of daily prayer, chanting or singing bhajans (devotional songs) fill you with positive energy and also help still the mind. They also instill a sense of deep faith that all happens for the best and that there is a higher divine power that takes care. Moreover, make a conscious effort to smile more and more. It will instill confidence, calmness and positivity instantaneously. Try it out right now!
#6: Think about what you can do for others
When we constantly remain stuck in ‘me and mine’, it makes room for stress and anxiety. We keep worrying about what will happen to us. Rather, shift your attention to how you can be of some use to others around you. Energizing yourself with some service activity can give you deep satisfaction and immense joy.
#7: Know the impermanence of the world
When this realization sets in that everything around us is temporary and would change, we become relaxed and settled from within. A feeling of ‘this too shall pass and not remain forever’ arises in us and frees us from anxiety. Meditation can help us see this founding principle of life.
#8: Remember a similar past situation when you could overcome anxiety
This fills you with immense courage that you can pass even this situation. Keep reminding this to yourself often.
#9: Keep positive company around you
When you spend more time with positive-minded people, you are influenced by similar thoughts, which reflects in your overall attitude to life. Only a positive mind can breed joy, peace and relaxation.
