I was extremely disappointed when I saw a policeman on my walk today that he did not say ‘ho’; ‘ta ran ta ra’ or Complain about the fact that his ‘lot was not a happy one’.

A sort of horrific AU about Moominvalley's constabulary! I'll probably make more story doodles about it.
CORRUPTED CONSTABULARY
Ok so the thing about this corruption stuff is that it's a sort of.... A long-time phenomenon that's happened within the police across Europe and making its way to the American police in a much worse way. Basically the corruption is a blood infection that takes one's empathy and agency, making them numb and prone to violence when there's something or someone they dislike - this is a government sanctioned disease and there hasn't been much effort to cure it.
How it works is that the tree branches suck the blood out of their host, and thusly suck their heart dry, and the heart is where the feelings are according to fantasy/metaphor logic. It infects certain people much easier than others due to the people's mindsets, which is why the force tends to be made up of terrible people and the nicer ones tend to get out of the job, willingly or otherwise. There are also very rare cases of policemen having blooming branches for unknown reasons, and these are called "blooming officers" or, more colloquially, "bloomers".
Enter: the Inspector. Because of the scar on his chest near his heart area (from WW2) much of his compassion still remains intact and the blood takes an external form in the shape of roses without any reproductive organs, red and white in color to represent red and white blood cells. If he takes these roses out, that means losing more of his blood and this losing himself, but nobody really knows that so there isn't much stopping him from ripping them out for reasons like the Chief not liking them or trying to be nice by offering a gift (despite the physical pain that comes with it).
The rest of the constables rarely seem... Very aware of things, and their brain functions seem stilted for whatever reason. The Inspector believes the higher ups placed their dimmer underlings in Moominvalley since it was a low-priority area. It doesn't stop people from being unnerved by their contorted flesh and branches, scared to be arrested by these creatures.
The Mymble's daughter is one of those people who don't seem to mind the body horror at all, perhaps growing up in her mother's care has made her immune to fear. Whatever it is, she tends to disagree with Little My and Snufkin on how to treat them, and took up dating the Inspector for one reason or another. The two have a very sweet relationship but a one-sided love, with the Inspector only playing along and hoping, nay, praying that something would spark in him eventually, because he feels it much better than the alternative of being true to himself or arousing suspicion by being too disinterested.
Mr. Hemulen is the most fascinated by the Inspector's bloomage and takes to casually studying him and his flowers, and he figures out the blood flower connection after some time and analysis of a specimen (he found it most strange that these things lacked any reproductive organs as any flower should).
The phenomenon of the corruption is strange, but what's stranger is the lack of effort to find a cure, and even more suspiciously if one looks at the higher ranks of the police... They don't seem quite as affected. Or rather, they don't seem quite as grotesque.

Following a frantic communication from the Executive Committee describing Uncle Jack being trapped against will in the Broadcasting tower by a deranged Doctor, we of the constabulary have conducted an investigation.
The recording studio has been found to be entirely empty. Ransacked, as well.
Who or what are you, and what have you done with Uncle Jack?
-Sergeant Rife Simmons
Apple Holm Division

Oh! The Constabulary.

What a pleasant surprise. I'm afraid I cannot give one back, however.

Unfortunately for you, you won't be finding us. We are long gone. But do keep searching, please. I enjoy the challenge.

My first-ever 3D crochet project. I really loved making this one and I adore how the picture came out.
Pattern: Crochet Aviator Hat from Sarah at Repeat Crafter Me. The hat is good old Cascade 220, and the goggles are yarn from the wonderful people and sheep at Topsy Farms.
A big burgundy thing is in progress for the last couple episodes of S16. You'll know it when you see it.

#OTD in 1993 – Greysteel massacre | the UDA, using the covername ‘Ulster Freedom Fighters’ (UFF), claimed responsibility for a gun attack on the Rising Sun Bar in Greysteel, Co Derry.
In what was one of the worst atrocities of the Troubles, a night on the eve of Halloween in 1993, UDA gunmen entered the Rising Sun Bar in Greysteel, Co Derry (an Irish Catholic, nationalist area) and shot dead seven people and wounding thirteen. Another man died later from his injuries. Before opening fire, one of the gunmen shouted “trick or treat. “The youngest victim, 19-year-old Karen…
