Quante vite possono avere i gioielli! E quanta vita possono avere incastonata dentro!

Uh no, non è un giochino allacciato alla mera retorica suggestiva: è la scoperta, concreta quanto la verità e profonda come le emozioni e le memorie, che guida l’opera creativa, tanto preziosa quanto la mano saggia che la interpreta, di Francesca Caltabiano.

Nel gergo dell’universo fashionable, la si definirebbe una jewelry designer: ma data la sua storia immersa nella passione per i minerali, i gioielli, la moda e il cinema che ne è vestito, e la formazione oltreoceano, nelle scuole del Fashion Institute of Technology e dell’Institute of America, dove si specializza prima in fashion marketing e poi in gemmologia, a cui segue una prima fase di vita creativa in quella stessa città che è unica al mondo per la varietà e l’intensità vivace degli stimoli creativi, ovvero New York, e poi gli anni dedicati alla gioielleria classica e di classe, ecco, la sua è una vera e propria arte dedicata al valore degli oggetti preziosi. A quello materiale, certo, ma anche a quello che hanno in connessione con l’animo di chi li indossa.

Quello plasmato da Francesca Caltabiano è, infatti, un mondo poliedrico, dove la fantasia trova nella magia delle fiabe il suo divertissement privilegiato, il penchant per l’eleganza non resiste a far coppia con l’ironia, l’amore per le arti preziose sperimenta le discipline artigiane con i materiali e ne trae gioielli inaspettati, sorprendenti.

Come le collezioni dove il mosaico è la sostanza prima che crea dissonanze armoniche, o quella in cui la lumachina è un inno alla perseveranza e viene premiata con l’incontro con una monetina da dieci lire, o ancora quella in cui la rana bacia la dama rinascimentale ritratta nelle nostalgiche cinquecento lire.

Ma non solo, il mondo prezioso di Francesca Caltabiano è anche assai generoso: perché qui il vezzo del decoro non è fine a se stesso, non si risolve solo nel saziare l’appetito sofisticato di ornarsi con oggetto splendidi, e splendidamente realizzati, ma si dirige oltre.

Oltre la voglia di apparire belle, che è pur sempre cosa buona e giustissima: oltre eventuali manierismi, oltre le tendenze che dirigono il gusto, e oltre l’interminabile scorrere avanti del tempo.

Anzi, a ben dire, le intenzioni di Francesca Caltabiano sfidano la corsa del tempo e la invitano a tornare indietro: per recuperare quei monili quasi dimenticati, quei gioielli che portano con sé ricordi affettuosi ma che hanno perso l’abitudine desiderata di essere indossati.

Francesca Caltabiano dedica a questi gioielli e alle donne che li posseggono il suo “repêchage”: ovvero un invito gentile a raccoglierli assieme ai ricordi e agli affetti che hanno incastonati, a portarli a lei in compagnia della propria storia, e a creare assieme un monile tutto nuovo che li abbia in sé tutti, monili e ricordi, ma che a modo suo sia una storia brillante tutta nuova da essere indossata. E vissuta.
