Hi shakthi! what do you feel about royalty/ fairytale au's? The idea of any variations of prince!Magnus au always gets me. -luxxmagnus

I LOVE THEM SO MUCH!!!!!!!!!! i love royalty au when it’s set in a diff universe and i dont always go for modern royalty, but a few of them i’ve read are well done so it’s really dependent on the way it’s written! but i’ve got a few must haves for a royalty au that get me like 😍

MAGICAL PRINCE MAGNUS AHHHHHHHH okay so obviously prince magnus>>>> because the aesthetic of prince magnus in fancy clothes, with an intricate crown and beautiful jewellery!!! also it means we can get courtship! and political intrigue! he still has magic because i say so!! also because magnus is so perfect he’d be the type of prince with a great relationship with his people so we’d get magnus being the sweetheart he is! also prince magnus overthrowing his father, the tyrannical king asmodeus????? UGH PERFECTION!!!!!! also i’d like to think that after asmodeus is overthrown, magnus still is not yet of age to be crowned king so ragnor (his older cousin, and no dont ask how they’re related) is the regent but really magnus has a lot of input in the ruling and ragnor is there as more of a formality and an advisor to magnus? cat, raphael, and dot are also members of the royal court and are magnus’ closest advisors and they have their own little family you know? also magnus’ mom died of a sickness when magnus was young and it was tragic and he was really broken by it because he loved his mother so much. so asmodeus tries to raise magnus to be the perfect weapon but thanks to his heart of gold and his found family, he doesn’t become the monster his father says he is. he wants to lead his kingdom to greatness, and do his best to help his people recover from asmodeus’ rule and move forward.

WARRIOR PRINCE ALEC HELL YEAH so with alec i like the idea of him being the crown prince of a neighbouring kingdom and he and magnus meet and it’s like Instant Sparks and they fall in love at first sight, as they tend to do, and it’s amazing. alec would be the prince who has a reputation of being stoic and cold and closed off but he’s just under the weight of all the expectations you know? plus i feel like his kingdom would be a kingdom of warriors and so he’s also excellent in combat and gets a reputation as an amazing archer and strategist. and it’s hard to please the lightwood parents who are forever comparing alec to jace and belittling him, and it’s tough but he does it for izzy and max, so they don’t take the pain. (alec lightwood is the best big brother ever). and he’s got all these ideas to open up idris and form proper alliances with the neighbouring kingdoms, to unify and bring peace to his people.

FANCY ROYAL BALL FOR LIKE SOMEONE’S ENGAGEMENT IDK IT’S NOT RELEVANT BUT THAT IS WHERE MALEC MEET it’s the 18th birthday of idk clary who’s a princess of some other kingdom idk it’s not relevant the exact occasion and the only thing that matter is this is where all the romance get set up! so it’s a big diplomatic thing and the leader and/or their heirs are expected to attend and magnus goes to represent edom with the immortal squad, and alec is there with izzy (and jace but they just ignore him after he runs after some poor girl to dance wth her). alec exchanges pleasantries with a few of the other guests but he’s not really there for gossip, trying to discuss alliances and trade agreements. magnus is asked to dance by many suitors, but he’s not looking to start a relationship nor to fuel the rumour mill so he politely declines and carries on mingling and soon enough the two princes meet and it’s like magic. magnus makes a terribly cheesy pun in response to a stranger at the bar’s sarcastic retort at some pompous duke and oh no he’s hot!!!! they both smile and introduce themselves with a distinct lack of effortless flair for magnus, or the calm composure typical of alec. they get to talking and it’s easy to see that neither of them have experienced this kind or ease and comforting familiarity when talking to someone outside of their inner circles.

whilst magnus and alec are falling in love over the course of a conversation, there is some hilarious shenanigans as maia, raphael, meliorn, and simon find themselves tangled in a love quadrangle as they all feel so drawn to one another, taking turns to dance with one another before retreating to their friend groups to be like “they are all so beautiful and sweet and kind please help!!!!” and so ensues one of the most elaborate slow burn romances the royal courts have seen in ages (the betting pool is also exceptionally large and is won by meliorn who with raphael, started more than half the rumours in order to stir the pot and collect the winnings and spoil their partners).

so anyway back to malec, they talk and have a few drinks and all is well and good and still pretty calm until alec picks up the way magnus is swaying to the music and tapping his feet to the beat, so alec asks magnus to dance and leads him to the dancefloor where they dance the night away, alec more than happy to twirl magnus around the dancefloor and make him giggle and blush, showing him off to everyone else. realising that they’ve attracted quite a fair bit of attention, they decide to steal away to an empty garden and continue dancing in the moonlight, the night is pure and utter perfection, and they part somewhat reluctantly, wanting to spend more time with one another, but also eager for the next day where they have agree to spend the day together. alec steels himself to press a brief, sweet, chaste kiss to magnus’ cheek before leaving to escort a tired and tipsy isabelle back to their guest chambers. magnus is left blushing, hand pressed to his cheek where alec’s warm lips pressed a gentle kiss that gave him butterflies.

COURTSHIP!!!! i desperately need courtship rituals!! like alec sending magnus elaborate flower arrangements with sweet, affectionate messages in flower language, magnus sending alec charmed tokens like a simple necklace or leather bracelet that has protective and healing spells woven into it!! them sending love letter to one another! they spend a lot of time together at social events and at “diplomacy meetings” where yes, they do discuss trade and alliances and what not but also it’s an excuse for them to spend at least a week with one another in either kingdom and they go on picnic dates on palace grounds, sneak out of their rooms at night to stargaze, wander through towns and eat street food (and alec always buys magnus little gifts and tokens that remind him of his love) and they train together, teaching each other the fighting styles of their respective kingdoms, and yes, there is a gratuitous alec teaching magnus archery scene because im fucking weak!!! and alec likes to hang out in the royal apothecary in edom and watch magnus make a whole bunch of cool potions, invent spells, and write magical theory. magnus in turn, is very fond of going to the training sessions of idris’ elite warriors–the shadowhunters, to watch alec obliterate a whole bunch of soldiers at various combat skills.

BATTLE COUPLE!!!!!! so they’re together for months and all is good but then valentine happens and has been getting his forces gathered during this whole thing and even before it (im just stupid and forgot to mention it sdkfvbabhvjabv) and anyway he attacks!! and the crown princes of idris and edom unite, together with the other young royals from the neighbouring kingdoms and their armies to defeat valentine. and the two of them are damn near impossible to beat, alec with his honed-from-birth warrior skills, and magnus with his proficiency in both magical and non-magical combat. and it goes well at first but then the tides turn and they have to split up and they part and it’s this moment of “i don’t know if we’ll survive this” and they almost go tosay i love you but then alec is like “i’ll tell you when we survive this, so please come back to me, and i’ll come back to you” and they’re both crying a little but they share one last kiss before separating.

the battle ends and they’re desperate to find each other, tearing through the battlefield to find their love. and they finally see each other and run into each other’s arms, both looking a little worse for wear, and they pull away from the embrace long enough for alec to blurt out “i love you” with so much conviction and surety that magnus subconsciously shakes his head, disbelieving that someone could love him of all people, before confessing his own love for alec. they kiss and it feels like relief and home and hope.

IDK HOW TO DESCRIBE BUT THE THING WHERE THEY’RE A DISGUSTINGLY CUTE COUPLE AND THEY’RE BASICALLY ENGAGED BUT NOTHING OFFICIAL

so they recover from the battle and they mourn their fallen, celebrate their victories, and bring justice to the invaders. this young generation of leaders more or less formally ascends to power and usher in a new era of peace, collaboration, and unity (the fact that there are so many inter-kingdom royal romances certainly doesn’t hurt the alliance)

in this time of peace, cat and dot get married and adopt madzie, the polycule are living their best lives, and izzy gets together with clary.

magnus and alec continue their courtship for a couple more years until they both turn of age to be crowned kings. alec plans an elaborate proposal that sweeps magnus off his feet and just a month after their respective coronations, they marry and their kingdoms are merged as one. and they all lived happily ever after

Hewwo I feel like I haven't invaded ur ask in a while to talk about maiaphael and I've been having thoughts about MAIA SINGING IN SPANISH. Or just them also comfortably dancing together??? Yeah.

i mean, please keep invading!!!! the purpose of this blog is to get more people to talk about them and create content for the pairing, after all (or send ideas so i can. i’m willing to do the work. it’s alright)

i feel like maia has a good singing voice, but doesn’t know it. she sounds really cute and raphael loves listening to her hum or sing (which she actually does a lot when she’s distracted. like if she’s thinking very hard she’ll sometimes start humming a tune or singing softly and doesn’t realize it? almost like some sort of verbal stim. it helps her feel back in track and concentrate, and every time she does it, raphael looks up from whatever he’s doing in order to smile at her. sometimes she catches him. “what?” she says. “i like hearing you sing,” he answers, because raphael is nothing if not honest). sometimes it lulls him to sleep when he’s stressed, or generally if he’s tense, maia’s singing voice helps automatically even if she doesn’t even mean it

and okay SINGING IN SPANISH. i just- hgghh again i just feel like this could be amazing both ways. maia speaking spanish very well or maia not speaking spanish at all and trying to learn it

like if she speaks spanish very well, she’s just slightly self conscious because it’s different to speak a language in front of a native speaker, you know? and it also probably means that she knows some songs of her own- i don’t know why, but i’m picturing her singing Te Vi by julieta venegas? so one day raphael just kind of catches her singing it and her voice is so cute and her spanish sounds so good and raphael is hit with that feeling of, oh, this is what family feels like. family to him is comfort, familiarity, loyalty, a place to rest- and spanish. and he has all of those with maia, but the spanish just hits him so strongly whenever she speaks it, it just feels so right, he feels whole and holy and like maybe he isn’t doomed after all, because he feels more like himself every day

and maia turns around and her smiling at her so softly he almost has tears in his eyes and she’s like “what?”, a little taken aback but not exactly worried because she knows raphael and knows from his expression that this isn’t something bad, not with the way he’s looking at her like she’s the world. and again, raphael is nothing if not honest, so he says “you, singing. it feels like home” and she melts

also picturing her singing el muchacho de los ojos tristes softly to him and playing with his hair and it’s just..... soft

or if she doesn’t speak spanish but is trying to learn it, raphael showing her some of his favorite songs and she quickly gets into it. and raphael is all patient and he is just so happy and flattered that she wants to learn spanish for him, that she thinks his language is beautiful (and maybe maia always wanted to learn it, but never got the chance). so he’ll like, write the lyrics down and show them to her and he’ll just be behind her back as she holds the paper, following the lines with his finger and explaining/translating it to her and listening as she tries to say it out loud. she feels a little embarrassed because she struggles a little with the pronunciation but he’s just like está perfecto, linda, and she sort of can’t help but smile up at him

and soon they start finding songs that she likes and she’ll start listening to more and more songs in spanish on her own. and then one day she starts to sing some song that comes up on her playlist and she’s clearly struggling a bit to remember/pronounce the words (especially in rhythm) and when she looks up raphael is looking at her with so much fondness in his eyes (again! she wants to learn spanish! and even if she’s naturally struggling as it is a new language, it just feels like home) and a smile on his face and she’s like “what?” but she breaks out into laughing because she was already concentrating so hard into singing and he’s looking at her like that and soon he starts chuckling too, not at her expense, but just... because he’s happy and she’s happy and laughing, and it’s sweet. and she keeps trying to sing even as she’s overtaken by giggles and it’s the softest sweetest thing..... i need to lie down

NOTP: tbh I have a few but (abuse cw) the first that really comes to mind is Camille. We don’t ship people with their abusers!

Favorite thing about them: Magnus’ kindness and the way he helps people, even after all the things he has been through. This is one of the biggest things about him as a character that I just adore. He is always ready to lend a helping hand, and he builds a family when once he didn’t have one.

Least favorite thing about them: Kinda tied to the favorite? He’s too selfless sometimes and I worry about him :( He needs to learn how to take care of himself and love himself. Luckily he has a lot of amazing people in his life to help him with that!

I haven't read all of the wiki page (shitty wifi connection lol) but you have me super interested in Magnus' past names! how did you come up with them? What are their back ground stories if you have them?

you have no idea how I was waiting for someone to ask me about Magnus’ names.

Okay, so, I did some research. I had already decided that his step dad was Dutch and Christian, that his mom had been converted and given a new name but was Muslim and Indonesian.

So I dug around for some info about 17th century Dutch naming practices, last names, etc, and found that back then last names were patronyms? So Magnus’ “last name” would have to be the name of his stepfather, followed by one of the suffixes that said “son of”.

Then did some more research on 17th century first names, and found Andries, which I thought worked really well. So I had Magnus’ original name be “[Something] Andrieszen”.

Did more research and came up with Christian Andrieszen because you know, a Dutch colonialist who helped forcefully convert the Indonesian population would have given his son a very christian name.

Then I asked @magnuslightwoodalecbane, resident beta for Season 2, and Dutch speaker. I was told to add to the Dutch-ness of it all by adding an a to Christian Andrieszen.

So now, Magnus’ birth name, his baptismal name, was Christiaan Andrieszen. His father was Andries Willemsen (again, very Dutch name), and his mother had been named Aaliyah, but re-named Jaana (again, Dutch, converstion, etc).

And I thought that Magnus’ mom would have given him a Muslim and Indonesian name. So I did some research, then asked @biconicfinn and ended up with Noor, which means light.

Sooooo. that’s how I came up with Magnus’ names.

Christiaan Andrieszen, Noor, Magnus Bane.

The Dutch name the Dutch colonizer forced upon him, the Muslim name his Muslim mother gifted him, and the name he chose.

I keep telling u guys, twi is a Cinderella au its just waiting to happen. like Magnus gets into the party, Alec is immediately drawn, he doesn't know his name cuz it's not on the list and i dont think he heard Magnus tell it to Raj and there's no way Raj is gonna remember his name specifically after a whole night of ppl babbling names to him. and then magnus fucked off and its not like they have any circles in common, or anything

and yeah yeah there's the commercial but it's not like it was super expensive so it probably doesn't play all the time cuz u have to pay a lot more to have it come up frequently, plus i dont think Alec would be into TV anyway (its 2020, if u want to watch something use the internet like a normal person). so all that's left is trying to look for him himself. with like, nothing to go on. and we all know Alec.... isnt an intellectual, when it comes to magnus

i mean he's pretty sure he's seen him talk to Clary but apparently Clary doesn't remember shit about the party and has no idea what Alec is even talking about. she was probably too busy talking to her boyfriend, Mace or something. the patrons dont know anything, the guests dont know anything, his friends dont know anything, Raj is extremely unhelpful and just says that alec's an idiot and that the guy left shortly after he arrived. everything indicates that he really was crashing the party, but he barely even stayed, which makes no sense

were it not for the fact that Raj remembers the guy and he is in the background in a few of the pictures (of course he had a photographer, duh) Alec would start questioning his sanity. as it is, he's just :( that he can't find him

he tries to get particular attention to the pics where Magnus is on the background, being all like "tag your friends!!" and shit, which isnt really that weird cuz you know, marketing, but hes really really invested in finding the cute guy udndidndkdn same with the lost & found posts, but of course nothing there belongs to Magnus because even if Magnus had lost something he could just summon it into his home

but none of that works because theres no way twi Magnus isnt a social media hermit, i mean he did a TV fucking commercial for his tarot business. like Magnus please. so of course no one's tagging him in anything cuz they're not in the same circles and they look for each other in all the wrong places

(i mean, Magnus is not looking for Alec, he kind of has a lot on his mind and hes not gonna get involved with a mundane, even if he's cute and nice and kinda sexy and it's been a long time, and he was very sweet and all excited about his party and- nope)

(he's just, you know. paying special attention to tall guys on the street. and maybe passing by the institute perhaps more than strictly necessary. but that means nothing)

but of course Alec isnt at the institute, cuz that was just where his patrons wanted the party to be. Alec has his own office, not even in the same neighborhood. so that's pointless

Alec is just kind of moping and toying with the idea of making a post looking for him on his personal twitter, but he doesn't want to pressure cute guy or come off as demanding or something. eventually izzy has to go to him and be like "okay, spill, why are you sighing every five seconds" and Alec is like ugghhhfhhsgsgghh

so izzy like the nosey bastard that she is and that we know and love, tweets herself saying that her brother has a crush and can't find him, and he doesn't want to post about it and make him feel pressured but if the guy is interested then he can DM her. and she puts up a little description of Magnus and a picture of Alec, just to make sure. maybe starts some stupid hashtag, i dont know

and alec's like "iz-" and she's like "relax, big bro, if he doesn't want it he just wont come forward. it's fine" and Alec is like "i guess" and proceeds to pester her so much asking if there's been any update she just sets her email to send him a copy of her twitter notifs

(that only serves to make it a bit less frequent. but that's fine)

anyway it eventually reaches. realistically catarina but i like to think its ragnor just because of the sheer ridiculousness of that. hey maybe twi ragnor is super techy. or maybe he isnt but he is kinda on the lookout for things related to his friends in social media and such, like the protective bastard that he is

and ragnor thinks it's hilarious and is all like "hey Magnus did you know that theres a whole campaign on twitter to find you" and Magnus is like "what" and hes like "yeah I'm pretty sure this is you theyre taking about, didn't you go to that institute party to help some shadowhunter with something or whatever" "you mean the reawakening of the ley lines" "yeah yeah whatever. more importantly, some guy's got a crush on you" and he shows Magnus the tweets exclusively to tease him and do his usual "allos are gross" routine, but Magnus is like. oh. he's. he wanted to find me? and ragnor is like incredible Magnus is in fact a gross allo.

anyway Ragnor helps Magnus set up a Twitter exclusively so he can bicker about what an old man Magnus is and make fun of him throughout the whole process ("you're blushing" "no I'm not" "you're definitely blushing" "because you said i was! I wasn't before" "oh it's so easy to rile you up") and Magnus sends izzy a PM and Alec almost falls on his ass when he sees it

and it's a no braincells event because neither of them know what to do from there. and izzy and ragnor are exclusively there to mock them for it. but alec's not about to miss his chance so he tells Magnus that he can totally say no if he isn't interested, but Alec would like to go out for coffee and maybe get to know each other

so they do and its sweet and cute and you know, the rest is history

Fanon! Alec is literally the worst he's one boring bitch. He apparently hates parties he's shy, blushes at anything Magnus says and is innocent jdgdushd like how in any way is that canon Alec? What I'll never understand is that Alec is basically a type of politician so organising parties/ meetings is expected of him. His innocence? People like to say because he was a virgin he wont know a thing but Alec has proved he's in no way innocent come one people. Alec is a smug ass it's literally canon.

it pissed me off because it is C A N O N that alec enjoys having fun, please people watch 2x07 and see how happy he is returning from japan, watch 3x02 and see how much he enjoys going out with magnus, watch 3x12 and see how ready he is to just go for it, watch literally any episode. also WHEN MAGNUS SAYS HE IS INNOCENT HE LITERALLY SAYS “in some ways” THAT BITCH ISN’T INNOCENT AT ALL and then the room thing every single room has that person’s personality all over it, jace’s, izzy’s, clary’s... alec’s room is big and elegant and just very adult like, it has blue all over it, he has plants and a huge mirror, a window bench with cushions, he has candles, he has a carpet, he has a few lamps, he has magazines ffs, he has two little book shelves and also books on his desk, he has a microphone as decoration, he has disks, films, records, he has an cassette player type thingy idk if it’s a radio or a record player idk but you get it alec is all over that room and the fact that people think he is a plain bitch with no taste who refuses to have little gadgets makes me so angry because THAT ISN’T ALEC AT ALL this is the same man that gave his boyfriend a little tiny gift because it’s the type of things he likes AAAAAAAAAAAHHH CAN THEY JUST TRY TO UNDERSTAND HIM FOR ONE SECOND

Omg what would be maiaphael's go to dance song would you think? Idk why Everytime I think of them dancing together the song Tiempo de Vals by chayanne starts playing in my mind, and I'm envisioning Maia as a princess au like thesorrowoflizards cute one shot they wrote about princess Maia and yeah jsgdhdhd I'm just aaaa full of feelings.

not to go all “julieta venegas” again but every time i listen to limón y sal.... i think about them. it just.... seems like a very raphael song, because i feel like that’s how he perceives himself, as hard to love, as difficult, moody. especially because with him being autistic his emotions are always perceived wrongly by other people, and it’s double hard for him to conform to social expectations because on top of that he’s also a latino immigrant, which means that he’s used to completely different (and way more open) ways of expressing affection. and then when he comes to the US that’s suddenly perceived as weird, invasive, and even sexual, and so he closes himself off completely. and the little social cues he had learnt to understand over time suddenly mean nothing anymore, and it’s just... confusing and it leaves him feeling like he’s hard to love, like he can’t express himself, like he’s “limón y sal” (for non-spanish speakers: lemon and salt)

also i mean.... sólo tenerte cerca, siento que vuelvo a empezar (”just having you at my side feels like starting over”, for non-spanish speakers) is just a super maiaphael quote to me?? particularly from raphael’s point of view?? like he’s coming out of a war and his whole life has been torn apart (again), he lost so many of his people and his family and everything is even more in shambles than it already was. also, i feel like having “overtaking camille” and then “defeating valentine” as his goals kept him going and distracted from his own issues with how everything was changing so fast and his guilt complexes and just general feelings of helplessness, and now that he doesn’t have that anymore... he’s lost

and he finds a purpose in Taki’s, in going back to cooking, in everything him and maia build together. turning the dumort back into a home, building a new community between werewolves and vampires, building back the shadow world, finding and building a family.... it’s absolutely starting over, it’s building his happy ending and finding his purpose, it’s like having life breathed into him again

and it feels similarly to maia, too, especially after everything she went through with jordan, and her (widely unresolved) issues with luke and family as well. maia was kicked out of her home and abused, and then she found a father figure who consistently hurt her, and she felt abandoned and hurt and she’s been trying so hard to find a community and a family. taki’s was her idea, she kept hunter’s moon together pretty much on her own, and then the war happened and the pack was almost torn apart plenty of times, and she’s also trying to (re)build a life and a family, slowly. and having raphael on her corner, raphael who always makes sure she takes care of herself and who gives her the support she needs to follow her dreams, raphael who doesn’t expect a lot of her but offers his companionship and a listening ear to her at all times, who treats her with kindness and love and like she’s precious, who helps her keep taki’s running and improve downworlder relations and makes her feel like finally she isn’t trying to keep everything together alone, who gives her an unwavering support and a family and a home in everything they do together, a drama-free, casual, but deep and caring relationship.... it definitely feels like starting over for her too

and okay i know that the “vuelvo a empezar” line is from the song you mentioned, and i’m going to get to that in a second, but can i just say that the mental image of maia softly singing the chorus to him as they sway together, and raphael almost crying in emotion, hits me very hard:

because you know... raphael is undead and maia has spent most of her life surviving, not having the time to dream, not having the time to go after she wants. and now they both feel so alive and happy? and the whole “by leading you, i’m being led” thing - they are absolute equals, and they take every step and every decision together, and i envision them just being... an unit, not as in “wow they are one in the same”, but in the sense that they’re a team and have each other’s backs, you know? so yeah, i feel like this line fits them so well

and obviously tiempo de vals is a waltz so it’s particularly easy to dance... i can absolutely picture raphael spinning maia around to this tune. i can picture maia dipping him and the both of them chuckling, and maia and him just swaying around together in her room or even the empty taki’s after they’ve already closed? yeah

and for limón y sal i picture them just swaying around softly, not really, truly dancing, but singing lowly with maia’s arms hooked on raphael’s shoulders and maybe them rubbing their noses together? yeah

i also totally feel like maia makes him dance to i wanna dance with somebody with her, which is a super dramatic but fun song to dance to, and it’s all dramatic and silly and maia in particular can’t stop laughing and raphael has that gleam in his eyes? you know?

also maybe that was the first song they ever danced together as a couple (with raphael feeling a little awkward at the novelty of dancing with someone for the first time, and maia having the time of her life and just looking so beautiful and cute as she leads him around, their hands together), so it becomes a thing that whenever maia wants to dance with him she goes “don’t you wanna dance? say you wanna dance, don’t you wanna dance?” and raphael can’t say no to that. really, he smiles immediately and rises to take her hand and give it a little kiss

i just.,.... love them being silly and romantic and sweet together and aa the potential
