Prompt: “Hold Onto Me”
Set in the early/ middle of season 8
Sylvie’s going to kill Stella. She’s actually going to corner her behind the rotting benches on their side of the field and murder her.
She did this. She implanted this stupid idea about her and Matt; Matt freaking Casey who has to be the worst possible person to have somewhat feelings for.
Okay, maybe Olivia is the one to blame since she said the stupid six words that can’t stop ringing through her brain like a bell. Still, Stella didn’t disagree. She also didn’t slap Sylvie across the face for even considering wanting Matt. Instead, she smirked and now she won’t let it go.
Now, she begged Sylvie to join the CFD softball team who annually plays against CPD. It’s strictly a pissing contest whose only prize is winning and bragging rights. It’s something Severide created so he could kick Jay Halstead’s ass.
Her best friend, her evil intentioned best friend, encouraged her to join this year. She insisted it was because Sylvie played softball in high school. Her friend knows she has a good arm so of course she’d want her on the team.
Wrong, this decision; this torture, is all because of Matt Casey. Stella convinced her here, so she had no choice but to stare and pine for the man who brings a whole new definition to the word swoon.
He’s hot on any given day, that much is obvious. It’s just a fact because any girl who encounters him on a scene, sweaty, stern and sometimes dirty, gets star eyes. They look at him like some Greek god and Sylvie’s human.
Matt’s incredibly attractive but this scene, this look is ungodly. When she first saw him, she rubbed her eyes so hard she saw spots. She thought she was hallucinating but this man was real.
The second-hand cheap uniform that’s oversized on her fits him amazingly. His shirt is halfway unbuttoned with the sleeves rolled up so all she can see is tan skin. Plus, his backwards baseball cap stirs something inside her that she didn’t even know existed.
Not to mention, his semi-competitive nature is a real turn on. All of it is entirely inappropriate considering he’s Gabby’s ex-husband. Matt’s her friend and she reasons with herself that any woman would admire this look. Hell, maybe Hailey and Kim are right there with her.
However, based on their starry looks for their respective partner’s, she doubts it. Unfortunately, she’s probably the only one foaming at the mouth. Well, she has seen the blonde female patrol cop making heart eyes at him.
There’s that at least.
God, she’s going to kill Stella after this. There’s no way she didn’t know what she was doing. She wanted her to have to see Matt like this. Just because she’s so happy with her own firefighter man does not give her the right.
Although Sylvie has murder on her mind, she’s also sadistically glad to play alongside him. She’s damn good and it’s thrilling to see his reaction. He even swatted her ass in congratulations after she ran into home base when Cruz advanced to first.
He’s never done that before, and she really can’t say she hated it. Although it was a little awkward when Hermann did the same thing. It’s endearing how into the game Hermann gets. She loves seeing his carefree self.
All and all, playing on the team is fun and they are definitely kicking PD’s ass. They are up by five runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. Jay and Atwater are good and Hailey’s surprisingly fast, but Adam and Kim can’t stop flirting to really do any good. Plus, the patrol cops Platt threatened so they’d join the team are clearly not into it. They rarely make contact with the ball or catch anything in the outfield.
Realistically, her team is in much better shape. Matt and Severide are athletes and Stella and Foster are so competitive it turns into skill. Cruz is one of the best third basemen and Gallo has hit more home runs than anybody. Even Ritter is quick on his feet.
She’s sure they are going to win which is probably why Severide gives in and lets her pitch another inning. His arm is sore, so he forfeits his pitcher status so that means she’s up again.
So far, she’s striked out most of PD aside from a few badly called balls. Trudy Platt makes a very biased umpire, but what can you do? Severide, aka the self-elected leader, pulled himself out while bases were loaded. Hailey had just reached first, pushing Atwater to second. Now, Jay is up to bat, and he looks determined.
His used helmet tips down and he adjusts, getting into a proper swinging stance. “Show us what you got Brett.”
What is it about men and trash talk?
She bends her knees and winds her arm. Ideally, it should pass through the strike zone without that bat making contact. She reels back and shoots forward, throwing the pale-yellow ball as hard as she can.
Jay swings, but misses, the softball landing in Cruz’s catcher mitt with a thwack. Platt declares her throw as a strike.
“Atta girl!” Stella hollers from the short-stop position. She smacks her hand into the glove and winks.
Okay, maybe Sylvie won’t kill her. She’s too encouraging for that.
Jay murmurs, scuffs his sneaker against the dirt and then repositions. He holds the bat behind his shoulder, and she winds up again, throwing the ball a little higher this time. Jay swings and misses, Platt declaring a second strike.
One more and he’s out and CFD bats again. She can easily do this.
“You got this, Brett.”
She looks over her shoulder. Matt’s playing first base because, duh, he’s just that good. He grins at her which causes a wave of nervousness to rush over. Before, she felt confident, but now with Matt’s very blue eyes tracking her every movement, she has butterflies.
God he looks so good. This Saturday evening hue does wonders for him.
Once Jay repositions again, she winds her arm back. She rotates her joint in a circle and releases the ball once it’s straight. It soars in the air harder than the previous ones and she watches Jay’s shinny blue bat make contact. Her eyes drift back onto Matt so she can watch him in action. She registers the harsh clinking noise and hears a simultaneous gasp amongst PD players inside the dugout.
She’s not sure what that is about until the ball comes flying back in her direction and beams her directly in the side of the head. Everything goes dark and before she can process anything, she tastes rich dirt on her lips.
There are a lot of voices all around her, but the throbbing inside her skull and eye socket makes it hard to process any of it. Jay can really hit the ball which should’ve been obvious. The man hits doors with battering rams for a living.
He has some power.
“Sylvie, can you hear me?”
Oh great. Matt, of course he’s here. Of course, the man she can’t get out of her damn head just witnessed her not so graceful face plant into the dirt.
This is humiliating.
His warm, rough hand grazes the back of her head. Despite not being able to open her eyes, she knows his face is right in front of hers. His voice sounds close, and she can also smell the faint scent of the cologne he probably put on before all this.
He grips her shoulder with his unoccupied hand. “Hey, I need you to open your eyes.”
The tone of his voice somehow lessens the pain, so she tries to blink. At first, everything is blurry. All she can see is redness and several sets of feet. After she lets her eyes adjust, she realizes she’s on her stomach. Her right eye is also swollen and throbbing.
“Hey, she’s coming to!”
Stella? Sylvie rolls herself onto her back covering her bad eye. Stella’s crouched next to her, shouting at Foster who is rooting around in the dugout. She’s probably looking for a first aid kit.
The game has apparently stopped. Everyone is crowded around her like she’s some zoo extraction. It is so embarrassing.
“Sylvie, hey? Are you alright?” Matt asks, allowing his hand to cup the side of her face. His worried features are blurry, but still tense.
“Geez, is she okay?”
Jay’s bent at the waist, hands on his knees by her feet. His expression is a mixture between worry and guilty.
Matt shoots him a tense glare, voice low and angry. She’s heard him talk like this on scenes with uncooperative people. “What do you think? You beamed her in the head.”
She’s sure poor Jay didn’t mean to do it. He just had a great hit and maybe if she wasn’t admiring Matt, she could’ve ducked.
Matt turns his attention on her again, narrowed eyes growing soft. His fingers brush some dirt off her face. “Hey, can you talk to me? Do you know where you are?”
Unfortunately, she does.
Her stomach churns at the reality of all this along with the pain. She feels herself grow pale.
“I’m going to be sick,” she murmurs, turning onto her right side by Stella. If she’s going to lose her sandwich Cindy packed for all of them, she’d rather Matt not witnesses that. She’s sure Stella won’t appreciate it, but this is also kind of her fault. She talked her into this.
When she’s on her side, the nausea dissipates. After she feels better, she rolls onto her back. Somehow, she ends up in Matt’s lap with his arm supporting her shoulders.
Emily runs over with the pitiful first aid kit someone left behind in the dugout. When she unpacks it, there is only a small bottle of rubbing alcohol and a warm ice pack.
Sylvie feels something wet roll down her face. She touches the skin above her eye and realizes it must’ve split open from the ball's stitches. She’s bleeding.
“You need a hospital, partner,” Foster says. “You’ll probably need stitches and a CT.”
Yeah, she’d agree she has a concussion. A cop’s strength will do that to a person.
“I’m so sorry, Brett,” Jay apologizes.
She gives him a thumbs up and mumbles, “It’s fine.”
Matt looks down at her, gently caressing her head. “I’m going to take you to Med.”
“What about the game?” Severide asks.
Both Stella and Matt glare through his soul. Although, she’s not upset with him at all. She doesn’t expect they stop the game all because of this.
“She’s bleeding and concussed. I think you’ll survive forfeiting the game,” Matt retorts.
“No, keep playing,” she insists, wincing at how talking aggravates her injury. “Cindy or someone from the stands can take me.”
“No way,” he argues. “I got it.”
Oh god. This can’t get any worse. She loves how much he cares, but he’s killing her.
Stella must notice because she pipes up. “It’s okay, Casey. I can take her. You keep playing.”
Matt begins maneuvering her in his arms. She groans as he just barely jostles her. She’s seeing stars.
“No offense Kidd, but I don’t think you can carry her to the car,” he replies.
Carry? She can probably walk.
“Casey, I can walk,” she protests, but he doesn’t listen. He slides one arm under her back and legs.
“No, you can’t Sylvie,” he replies. “Hold onto me.”
She has no choice but to do what he asks. She wraps her arms around his neck, and he hoists her in his arms like she’s weightless. The movement makes her dizzy, so she rests her head on his broad shoulder.
Despite how embarrassing this is, she can’t say she’s miserable. This is surprisingly nice.
“Kidd, can you grab my keys from my bag and help me get her in the truck?” He requests.
“Sure.”
Sylvie ignores the commotion around her and focuses on how nice it feels to be in his arms.
:::
She winds up behind a curtain in Med’s ER with one of Matt’s old t-shirts against her bleeding eye as she waits. Unfortunately, the ER is overflowing with people who are in worse shape so she’s stuck waiting. It doesn’t matter that Matt already made an enemy out of one of the doctor’s she doesn’t know after he demanded she get some ice; she still has to wait.
The bleeding has slowed, but she’s definitely dizzy. Matt had of course carried her in despite the many many times she insisted she could walk. He never listened because he carried her until he gently sat her on the gurney.
Now, he’s standing next to her with one of her hands tight in his. He took off the hat at some point, so his hair is disheveled and messy. It’s not a bad change.
She really didn’t think he’d stick around, but they’ve been waiting almost an hour and he’s stayed by her side. She’s somewhat reclined back with her knees propped up and her left-hand holding pressure against her face.
He told her ten minutes ago that Stella texted that she and Emily were trying to visit, but with the ER so packed, the nursing staff wanted all unnecessary visitors out.
She understands and as much as she loves her friends, Matt is great company too.
She squeezes Matt’s fingers to lessen the pain because her eye is throbbing and swollen. He must notice the additional pressure because he turns his head and frowns.
“Hey, is it getting worse?” He asks.
“No, just throbs every now and then. I guess that is happens when you take a softball to the eye socket.”
So far, he’s been standing next to her, leaning on the railing every once and awhile after stretching his back. Now, he reaches for one of the plastic chairs with one hand and drags it next to her. He sits down, resting both elbows on the railing and moves his free hand to her head.
He sweeps some hair out of her eyes. “Yeah, Halstead hit you hard, Brett.”
She bites her lip to keep from laughing. “Yeah, I know Casey. I felt it.”
Matt chuckles, letting his hand rest on the top of her head. “I bet. You dropped to the ground instantly. I don’t think anyone had time to react.”
God, that’s so embarrassing.
She groans. “Just great. That’s not humiliating at all.”
“Oh, come on,” he replies. “There is nothing embarrassing about getting hurt. It was Halstead’s fault. Not yours.”
“He didn’t mean to hit me. It was a good hit,” she says. “I should’ve ducked or gotten out of the way. It’s not Jay’s fault.”
He leans back but keeps ahold of her hand. “I don’t care. You shouldn’t have gotten hit like that. You’re going to need stitches and you probably have a concussion.”
She ticks one finger in the air. “Definitely have a concussion. Paramedics know these things, but hey, at least I didn’t break anything.”
The second she makes the joke, she regrets it. Matt’s expression shifts and she berates herself for making light of the Arnow fire.
“I…I’m sorry,” she whispers, squeezing his hand. “I shouldn’t have…”
He shakes his head and shifts his gaze down. “No, no, you’re right. I guess it’s kind of hypocritical of me to be upset with Halstead for hurting you when I did the same.”
She’s so stupid. How could she bring this up? It’s not Matt’s fault. She’s never blamed him ever.
“Casey, you didn’t…” she chews on the inside of her lip. “It wasn’t your fault. I would never blame you for what happened.”
He meets her stare. “I called you in, Brett. I told you it was safe. That’s on me.”
She knows he holds so much guilt over that day, especially Otis’s death. It’s unnecessary because it wasn’t on him. It was the factory’s negligence that caused the blast.
“You thought it was,” she replies. “Everyone did. There was no way for you to know. I don’t blame you and you shouldn’t blame yourself.”
“Yeah,” he replies, but she can tell he doesn’t believe it. He probably never will.
She switches gears and lets her gaze settle on his hand, watching as his rough thumb grazes her pointer finger in soothing patterns. Originally, she thought this injury was a curse, but it’s kind of a blessing. It’s nice to see how much he cares.
He’s a great guy.
“You know,” she whispers, looking up at him. She wants this next confession to really sink in. “More than anyone in the world, I’d trust you with my life. I really would, Casey.”
The signature solemn Matt Casey looks changes. The corner of his mouth ticks up in a small grin. “I appreciate that.” He clears his throat, and she swears his cheeks turn a little red, but that might just be her impaired vision. “When Boden came over the radio and said someone was hurt…I was really hoping it wasn’t you. I mean, I didn’t want Foster or anybody else to be really hurt, but I don’t know.”
She holds her breath in anticipation. The confession startles her to her core. What does that even mean?”
“I guess what I’m saying is…worst case scenario for me was that it was you who was hurt…well, aside from the absolute worst…”
She gently interrupts him. They both know what he means. “Yeah, I know.” She decides to shift the tone. “I knew I’d grow on you eventually.”
Huh, maybe that wasn’t a good idea. She is concussed and the pain meds just now kicked in. She’ll blame her loose filter on that.
Matt chuckles, scratching the back of his neck. “Well, I wouldn’t say you never did. I mean, I’ve liked you since the day I met you.”
Platonically, she reminds herself.
She purses her lips. “No, you definitely didn’t. We barely knew each other. I was just…”
Gabby’s best friend.
God, she’s the worst person ever. She shouldn’t be holding Matt’s hand right now. It’s wrong.
She tries to ease her hand away, but his grip never waivers.
Whatever. If he’s okay with it, so is she.
It’s all friendly anyway.
“Okay,” Matt concedes. “Maybe it took me a couple years to really appreciate you in all your glory, but I had a lot going on. Now, I don’t know…I guess it’s easy with you. I mean, talking and hopefully, building a friendship.”
His sentence trails off with a question. She can’t believe he would think for one second that she doesn’t consider him as a friend.
She does.
The pain meds are leaving her feeling fuzzy. She grins, readjusting the shirt that smells like Matt against her eye. “See? I knew you’d fall in love with me.”
Oh my god.
She lifts her head and the room spins, but she’s too immersed in her panic to clock her symptoms.
Did she really just…
To her surprise, Matt doesn’t look appalled by her stupid slip-up. He’s actually grinning in amusement.
“Oh my god,” she whispers. “I didn’t mean…pickles.” She shakes her head, averting her gaze onto the tiled ceiling. “Platonically of course. I meant platonically fall in love. I say the same thing to Severide which I obviously don’t want him in love with me. Not that he would. I mean, he’s madly in love with Stella which I want! I want my best friend so happy. I’m not…oh my god.”
She feels like a human car crash. Every move she makes causes more damage.
“Brett,” Matt laughs.
“Obviously you’ll never fall in love with me,” Sylvie says. It’s true. “Nor would I ever in a million years want you to, Casey.” Unfortunate lie.
He raises his eyebrows. Did she offend him?
“You’re not my type. You’re not unattractive obviously…I mean, I’m not saying I don’t think your…”
Now would be the best time for her blood vessels to pop if she does in fact have a brain bleed. It would shut her up, but also give her an excuse to hide behind after all that word vomit.
“Sylvie,” he interrupts, lightly patting her head. “You’re drugged up on pain pills. Probably best you stop talking.”
Yeah, definitely not a bad idea.
“I’m sorry,” she whispers. “I’m so sorry. You can um…I can wait alone. I don’t want to put you out. You probably have things…”
“You better not be trying to push me away now,” he says. “I like being here for you, okay? And I like that you seem to like it too. Just let me.”
Gosh, he’s so earnest. It amazes her.
“I do like you here. I appreciate it,” she says. “I really do.”
She does.
Appreciate him.

It feels like CPD is ignoring a lot of their past seasons to try and make season 10 work. Now that Burzek is back together, they are trying to say Kim has always felt the same way about Adam. No! This isn't even an anti thing, that's just not the truth. I get they needed a ship this year, but they could have just said she saw Adam in a different light now that he is a dad and he was there for her recovery. We all saw seasons 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8. She was clear she didn't want a relationship with him. So now Burzek is this couple that has always felt the same way about each other and Upstead is falling apart, even though they have always been steady? I get it. Jay is gone and Burzek was bound to get back together, but they shouldn't have to revise past seasons to make it work.
Nothing further, your honor.

Has no one on PD really had a good exit?
Not really, some exits I guess you could label as neutral, but no I wouldn’t call any of them good. At least not if we’re using good as a synonym for happy. Let’s break it down (including some major recurring guests).
Julie Willhite (season 1): Line of Duty Death
Mia Sumner (season 1): forcibly transferred, IAD mole
Sheldon Jin (season 1): Murdered
Nadia DeCotis (season 2): Murdered
Sean Roman (season 3): Injured Out, and didn’t think they'd be able to hack being a desk cop
Justin Voight (season 3): Murdered
Mouse Gerwitz (season 4): Returned to Army/failure to re-assimilate to civilian life
Antonio Dawson PT 1 (season 4): Transferred own volition (so it could have been seen as a good/happy one if Chicago Justice hadn’t been canceled)
Erin Lindsay (season 4): Transferred to FBI, but would have been fired from CPD if stayed and her mother would have gone to jail, so not much choice.
Alvin Olinsky (season 5): Murdered
Antonio Dawson PT 2 (season 6/7): Drug addiction, moved to Puerto Rico to be near his sister
Vanessa Rojas (season 7/8): Unknown. You can assume happy if you want, but there's no evidence of that.
Jay Halstead (season 10): Rejoined army in some capacity, felt as though needed to leave as he was losing himself
Now, this isn’t to say that the other shows don’t have their share of “bad” exits, either. Fire has had plenty of deaths, injured-out's and fired's. So has Med, who has also had more neutral exits. But they both also have happier wrap-ups interspersed though all that as well. PD really doesn’t.

What's your personal ranking of each CPD season? I'm always kinda torn because I thought some of the cases were more interesting in the first seasons but the show felt more cohesive in the later seasons (maybe save for this one!):).
I don't know if I could give you a full rundown list of all seasons, at least not without going back and re-watching. However, my personal favorite season is 8.

Chicago Justice Season 1 Ep. 8 "Lily's Law"
Tumblr media
After a guilty verdict is delivered, a juror in the case is found dead in a lake. The team investigates and finds out that she committed suicide due to being cyberstalked and heavily harassed. Stone does everything in his power to bring the responsible person to justice.
If you want to watch the series for yourself, stop reading! This post contains spoilers to the storyline.
Lily Spencer is expressing her exhaustion after five weeks of trial and now facing the pressure of jury deliberations. Peter Stone objects to starting deliberations over again, but the judge reminds them that serving on a jury is a duty, not a vacation. The defendant was found guilty by the jury and will be remanded until sentencing. After the court adjourns, Lily runs out of the jury box.
At a bar, Anna Valdez asks Stone about the wall in the office that displays clothing. Stone explains that when an ASA wins their first trial, a piece of their clothing is hung on the wall. She laughs at his bow tie. Stone receives a call to go to a crime scene.
Laura Nagel and Antonio Dawson reveal that Lily Spencer was found in the water with the summons for jury duty in her wallet. There are no visible bruises, and it appears she was dumped in the water while still alive. Stone kneels beside her corpse and says, "Maybe I should have let you go."
Tumblr media
Stone meets with Mark Jefferies at the ASA office. Jefferies warns that if jurors are being killed, they will never see another jury. Stone suggests bringing in CPD's Sergeant Hank Voight, but Jefferies wants him to lead the investigation. He also orders unmarked police cars to follow the other jurors until they solve the case.
Antonio and Laura visit Santiago Mendoza, the defendant's brother. After Antonio unplugs his saw, he informs them that Miguel Lopez is a sick person. They should investigate him because he went to extreme measures to ensure his brother, Ricardo, didn't testify against them at trial.
Miguel flees when Antonio arrives to see him. Antonio chases him, while Laura follows in their vehicle. They handcuff him and question him about threatening Mrs. Mendoza. When they show him a photo of Lily, he recognizes her as the juror.
Tumblr media
During a conversation with Antonio and Laura, Mr. Evans admits to consoling Lily during an argument in the parking lot. When Laura informs him of Lily's death, he immediately blames the punk kids. Despite his fear as the foreman of the jury, Antonio assures him that protection is already in place. According to Santiago, Lily was becoming increasingly agitated by her text messages. When they were asked to turn off their phones, Lily insisted on keeping hers on, claiming that there would be consequences if she didn't. Although he believed it was a private matter, it clearly was not. The final message read, "It's either the jury or your kid. Last chance!"
Antonio and Laura visit Jaxson Clark, with whom she shares a child. He learns that Lily passed away two days prior and he mentions they were the ones who coerced her into serving on the jury. Jaxson Clark asks if they have the guy in custody. Laura wonders why he didn't find it strange that he didn't receive a text from her in two days. He acknowledges that the text may have sounded bad, but they must understand that he is also busy and tired of explaining to his child, Sam, what jury duty entails. They find out that Jaxson has a boat and that he took it out two nights ago. Laura retrieves a hoodie from the boat and discovers that the keys in the pocket belong to Lily.
The keys are used to search Lily's apartment. Laura quickly finds a photo that proves the hoodie belongs to Sam. Antonio finds an eviction notice dated for the night Lily was killed.
Tumblr media
According to the manager, Lily was his favourite tenant, and the owners were evicting her because she was three months behind in rent. She only got the place because her sister, Sarah, co-signed.
Sarah's wife reveals that Sarah passed away three months ago. She promised to take care of Lily, who used to be an assistant professor until Jaxson Clark came into her life. She shares stories of visiting Jaxson and Lily. He was very controlling and refused to let her work while they were together. They learned that Jaxson was stalking her, and the last time he did so was just before the trial by the river where they scattered Sarah's ashes.
Tumblr media
Antonio and Laura walk along the riverside, but no one seems to have seen anything. They come across a fraternity that dresses up, drinks and runs while recording everything they do. In one of the videos, Laura and Stone watch as Lily takes a couple of steps and jumps into the freezing river, ultimately killing herself.
The next day, Anna informs Stone that the ME's report concluded that Lily drowned, with her lungs filled with river water and no signs of bruising. Stone is left wondering how Lily managed to duct tape her own hands and is eager to find any evidence to charge Jaxson Clark with stalking her.
Tumblr media
Anna commented that if she had an ex who took her to court as often as Jaxson did to Lily, she might consider drastic measures herself. Laura is furious because she feels Jaxson didn't even want the child, but he did it only so Lily didn't have him. He even filed five motions of abuse against her. Antonio said he will talk to Sam, while Laura goes to DCFS.
DCFS worker Chad Parker tells Laura that Lily is a good mother, but he cannot ignore complaints because it is his job to protect the child. He explains that during a safety check, Lily had a cast on her arm and claimed she had fallen down the stairs. Although he has no evidence that Jaxson caused the injury, he knows that Jaxson wanted full custody and Lily was not willing to give him up. Laura suggests that he should have taken action.
Laura vents to Anna about her situation with DCFS. Anna advises against marriage. Anna prioritizes a husband over having kids, surprising Laura. They drive tho Chicago Med.
Antonio wants to talk to Sam. Sam's dad is late as usual. Antonio asks Sam if his mother ever hit him, but before Sam can answer, Jaxson arrives and roughly grabs Sam, causing Antonio to react. Antonio drops Jaxson to the ground with his arm behind his back after Jaxson shoves him. Sam pleads with Antonio to stop.
At Chicago Med, they discover that Lily had drugs in her system and was fortunate that someone called 911 when they did. The nurse explains that Lily was pretty doped up and probably broke her arm falling out of the bath, but luckily, that was the only injury she sustained.
Anna returns to the office and shows Stone the information she gathered. She is visibly upset, stating that she feels harassed, and possibly even stalked. Stone wonders if Jaxson knew about her first suicide attempt. Anna believes that Jaxson's behaviour is unacceptable and that there are laws against stalking and harassment for a reason.
Laura and Antonio return to Jaxson's workplace to arrest him. He is very confident, telling his assistant that he will be back within the hour. At the ASA office, Jaxson's attorney, Miranda, jokes that she has discovered great restaurants through Jaxson's app and cannot have him sent to prison. Jaxson requests a find and the opportunity to return home to his child. He presents a video of Antonio forcing him to the ground, which appears to be an act of brutality. Stone suggests him to put the phone away. Stone offers Jaxson a plea deal of two years and anger management classes. Anna mentions the 1500 harassing and threatening texts in just three months. The person responsible denies fault for Lily's eventual suicide and even made fun of her. Stone reminds Jaxson that they should have taken the two-year sentence and now they are being charged with Lily's murder.
Jefferies asks Stone if he is out of his mind. Stone admits he is pushing it, but he believes he is the direct cause of her death. He knew she was suicidal, and it was like knowing she opened the exploding letter. Stone clarifies that he is not writing new law, he is just stretching the old ones.
Tumblr media
During the court proceedings, Stone presents an expert who testifies that emotional abuse could directly cause suicide. During the questioning by Jaxson's lawyer, the expert witness stated that Lily's suicide could have been caused by various factors in her life, and she could not definitively attribute it to Jaxson's behaviour.
Tumblr media
Later, Grace Kelman, the widow of Sarah, testified that Jaxson was responsible for Lily's first suicide attempt and had made derogatory comments about those who cannot even kill themselves. Lily sent a text to Grace, stating that she would not be able to continue living if her sister passed away.
Stone and Jefferies exit the office, with Stone expressing concern about the upcoming testimony of 9-year-old Sam. Despite not having complete legal support, Stone believes the jury is on his side. Jefferies advises him to be gentle with Sam.
During the court hearing, Sam showed a scar on his body and explained that it was caused by an incident at his father's house. However, his father prevented him from contacting his mother, claiming that she did not pay the phone bill. Sam constantly looked at his father when answering questions. Stone urged him to continue, and Sam mentioned that he did not have to pay for Snapchat. Miranda attempted to halt the questioning but her previous actions had already allowed the court to view Sam's phone. Sam was recorded screaming about how horrible his mother was and expressing a desire to live with his father. Although his father was present during the recording, Sam later admitted that he did not mean what he said. Stone stands between Sam and his father, obscuring Sam's view of him. Upon rewinding the video, Stone notices that Sam's arms were down at his side, Stone reassures Sam that he is not in trouble, but asks him to identify who was holding the phone. Sam breaks down and admits that his father forced him to send it, even though he didn't want to. He cries and asks if he is responsible for his mother's death. Stone reassures him that it is not his fault.
Jaxson Clark has been found guilty of murder. However, the judge stopped and accused the jury of making an emotional decision. Stone objected, but the judge told him to sit down. The judge stated that the jury ignored her instructions and forced her to disregard their decision. She explained that the prosecution failed to prove that Jaxson knew his actions would result in Lily's death. Therefore, she set aside the verdict and dismissed the jury. Jaxson appeared pleased, while Anna was furious.
Tumblr media
Stone is upset that Jaxson is getting a free pass. He recalls a similar situation with a college friend where he failed to act. He stands up and declares that laws must change. Jefferies challenges him to make the change.
Stone meets with senators to discuss the Illinois murder statute, specifically regarding emotional abuse leading to suicide. He also discusses the case of Lily Spencer. After the meeting, he visits Cora, his college friend from years ago, to apologize. She invites him insde.

I’m very pro Hailey and Kev friendship in season 10. I’ve been rewatching some episodes and there’s a clearly friendship further than work colleagues there e.g. the way everyone is looking at each other during the shots at Hailey’s 10th work anniversary celebration and he’s looking at her instead and then also just them being the only two left in the bull pen earlier in the episode (both there without partners and he told her he could hook her up at his cousin’s fitness place), not to mention how when Jay goes undercover with Latrell in season 8 Kev is just watching Hailey the whole time they’re in the van together. Definitely more pro Hailey x Kev than Kim x Jay friendship but only because J&K have had 10 years to form a friendship and it hasn’t happened so likely isn’t going to happen anyway. But I get why the long time CPD fans would want Jay and Kim to be closer than they are.
Kevin is ALWAYS one of the first people to check on her when something happens too. Also, both Tracy and LaRoyce gushed about how excited they were to have such a light scene together in 9x13. There’s so much chemistry between them for a really good partnership, so if they do go the musical partners route this season, I hope that’s a partnership we get to see a lot of!

~*~this feels so right, it can’t be wrong as far as i can see~*~
a/n: my very good friend @lovelymary wanted my version of the brettonio and dawsey double date in episode seven of season five, so here it is. the lyrics and title come from "stay here forever" by jewel. this is basically before the date, the date and then after the date for both couples.
~*~this feels so right, it can be wrong so far as i can see~*~
pairing [s]: antonio dawson x sylvie brett and matthew casey x gabriela dawson
summary: double dating wasn't out of the realm of possibility when you were dating your partner's brother, but sylvie never expected her feelings for antonio to hit her so hard and so fast and for them to be so obvious to gabby and casey
rating: t
it's a big world
for a boy and a girl
letting go of it all
holding onto one another
"stay here forever" - by jewel
"You know," Gabby's tone was sly, her eyes sparkling and Matt knew he should brace himself for her next words, especially since he found his lap full of her petite body, her arms draped around his neck. Thankfully the blinds to his office were closed. He didn't need any grief from Severide about quickies at work and how he can't do the same with Kidd in his own office. "Sylvie and Antonio seem pretty steady," She observed, tracing the planes of his chest through his collared CFD shirt.
Matt was happy for Gabby's brother, he really was. He had come to consider Antonio a friend and not just his fiance's brother and an ally with the CPD. That didn't mean he wanted to hear about his relationship with one of his co-workers.
He felt his body relax as Gabby began to press kisses, soft but full of heat, against his jaw and he knew she was buttering him up for whatever she was about to tell him. He, however, wasn't going to complain as his own hands sunk into her thick glossy chocolate hair to anchor her lips to his skin.
"I was thinking," She murmured, her voice breathless and warm, making him groan. "We all happen to have off the Wednesday before my parents' big bash on Saturday, sooooo what if we did something together? Like grab dinner, dessert and we could dance too? You need all the practice you can get before you walk into that ballroom full of at least a hundred or so Latinos and Latinas, baby,"
"Are you saying I can't dance?" He joked, stroking her soft cheek with his thumb. "That's not what I said. I said you need practice. There's a difference," She laughed, unable to keep a straight face. "Just for that I should put you on hose duty," He remarked. "But because I know I can't say no to you about anything, we can double date with your brother and Brett. I get to pick the restaurant, though."
"You drive a hard bargain, Lieutenant. Buuuuut I bet I can change your mind."
A searing kiss was pressed to Matt's lips and then Gabby had thrown her shirt over her head, leaving her in a lace bra he definitely would have remembered. Suddenly picking the restaurant wasn't as important.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
You and Sylvie, me and Matt at Lakeshore's Wednesday night at 7 don't be late big brother I know where you live
Antonio shook his head as he saw the incoming text from Gabby. Double dating with his younger sister was always interesting to say the least. She was very protective of him, despite being the younger sibling. It took her years to warm up to Laura who had confessed to him on numerous occasions throughout their marriage, she still wasn't sure if Gabby liked her. But he was just as culpable, unable to turn off his cops instincts, which led him to chasing off a few of Gabby's boyfriends.
This was different. He'd known Matt for years now. Hell, the guy came to him to ask for the family's permission to marry Gabby. He was good people. And it wasn't like Sylvie was a stranger. But he knew Gabby wanted to see them interact together, to see neither of them was jumping into something they weren't prepared for.
It was silly he was a grown man in his 40s with two teenagers, but Sylvie made him feel like he was as much of a teenager as Eva and Diego actually were. With Laura things had burned hot and fast, then settled into a typically suburban life once he made detective. He couldn't remember the women, girls really, before her except for Angel Ramirez who went to high school with Gabby and Deana Cruz who was his first everything. So dating was new to him, honestly, and Sylvie's infectious energy had worn off on him.
"You have a visitor, Rico Suave," Came Platt's dry tone, drawing him out of his thoughts. Sylvie jauntily waved from behind the austere sargeant, her blue eyes as bright as her smile. Seeing her familiar blinding smile, he couldn't stop his lips from curving into one of their own, even as Ruzek cat called and Atwater remarked, "Bow chicka wow wow,"
"Aren't you a sight for sore eyes, Sylvie Brett," Antonio mused, drawing her lithe frame into his strong frame. "Keep it PG you're on city property," Platt's tone was droll as she rolled her eyes while the detective drew the medic in for a soft kiss.
"I probably should have called ahead or at least texted. I just realized I don't know exactly when you guys take a lunch or a break," She was sheepish, peering at him through her velvet lashes. "Whenever we can," Antonio was honest. "It's rare we go to lunch at the same time twice in the same month. Lucky for you I haven't taken mine yet." He winked and she flushed, showing him the familiar brown paper bag from Lucky's.
"Lucky's?" Jay groaned from his desk. "That is not fair. Hey," He called to Erin across the bullpen. "Why don't you ever bring me a sandwich from Lucky's. I would bring you one."
"You lie," Erin rolled her eyes. "You insist we go dutch over stakeout snacks because you're a cheapskate, Halstead."
"No, I insist we go dutch on stakeout snacks because I respect you as a woman, Erin Lindsay. You wouldn't want a man to pay your way and I'm honoring that. I'm a feminist."
Antonio soaked in Sylvie's warm bubbly laughter as he guided her into the little kitchenette while Jay and Erin continued their playful squabble as Ruzek and Atwater decided between Lou Malnati's or Weiner Circle for their lunch.

pairing: erik johnson x oc
summary: isabel ramos has always tried to keep her private life away from the white hot glare of the spotlight, but with a man like erik johnson on her arm, how can she not brag
rating: t
[red carpet debut]
he ain't from round
this side of town
but he fits into every crowd
and he knows just how to do my body and my heart right
At this point red carpets - for vanity liquor launches, for the latest Netflix drama or superhero tentpole flick to even the Oscars - Isabel had been there and done that. She knew what to expect; the white hot glare from all of the lights, the constant flashes of hundreds of cameras, forty different people shouting her name and of course the dozens of interviews from various entertainment news outlets.
Tonight - walking the white (pun intended) carpet - for the second season premiere of HBO Max's newest crown jewel in White Lotus would be just a little different. She wouldn't be walking the carpet alone. She knew everyone was gossiping about her and her co-star, the handsome British actor, Theo James, but tonight she was putting those rumors to bed for good.
Guiding her down the carpet for the first time was going to be her husband (yes, husband you read that right) Colorado Avalanche stalwart defenseman, Erik Johnson. Her lips couldn't help but curl proudly as her long time makeup artist worked her magic. Keeping things private was never easy, not even Ben and Jen had managed to keep their wedding reception from leaking. But Erik's teammates were sweet in respecting their wishes and her friends were all too familiar with things getting out to the public before you wanted them to.
She touched the four point five karat sapphire ring on her finger, her heart picking up speed while butterflies erupted in her stomach. She had done this a hundred times - since she was sixteen and had broken out on the soap opera General Hospital, playing mobster Sonny Corinthos's headstrong daughter whose mother was his former lover and attorney, Alexis Davis - but this was truly different. Even though she had walked carpets with her exes and flings and everything in between, Erik wasn't them. He was everything she had hoped and dreamed of as a girl watching every rom com she could get her hands on.
Slipping her wedding ring from her left ring finger to her right, she laughed softly. There were still some things they wanted to keep for themselves.
"Hola, esposa," Erik's jumbled Spanish made Isabel smile, her own dimples appearing to match his. "Nice try, Blanquito," Her voice was soft and placating but Erik took it in stride, her teasing making his stomach tumble like only she could.
Growing up with Brazilian parents, Isabel learned Spanish before she learned English and could speak conversational Portuguese as well. Erik was trying his hand at Spanish and more often than not he mostly succeeded in making her laugh as he asked why she couldn't just teach him the naughty words.
Once her makeup was finished, he let out a whistle at seeing her full white carpet look. A summery silk maxi dress in a deep green with a plunging neckline and silvery strappy heels while her velvet black hair was twisted into an elaborate braid crown gave her the glam of the star she was and kept with the show's luxury resort theme. It was hard to believe she was his. He was just a hockey player, a Minnesotan born and bred raised in his small town that somehow made it to the league, forget being drafted number one overall and now winning the Cup.
Their first night, the thin Mountain air around them, her sneaking into Denver on a private flight in the wee hours (Erik knew it wasn't his best display of leadership but fuck it, Isabel was too good to be true) on a game day, she told him - their bodies plastered together, sticky with sweat, that's what she liked most about him. That he was the small town boy who made good. It reminded her that she was a small town girl, having left her Brazilian tropical life behind, for a brighter future in the States, her parents wanting to give her everything they never had. That she was just Isabel. Not this international celebrity, a point of fascination for strangers, but a girl who ached for love like any normal person would.
Everything was dimmer with Erik on her arm - the white hot glare warm instead of intense, the shouting not as invasive - except her smile. She knew it was blinding as they posed, his large hand on the small of her back. She missed the cool metal of his ring against her skin but she would make do. No one needed to know everything about her.
The headlines from The Cut to Duemoix to TMZ came fast and furious once they were at the after party at Balthazar with the rest of the cast and director and creator, Mike White.

@USWeekly theo james who???? putting to bed those pesky rumors two time emmy nominee isabel ramos debuts hockey player beau on the white lotus red carpet. she jokes with our carrie reynolds "a lady doesn't kiss and tell buuuuut all that time on the ice has its benefits''
Isabel wasn't surprised how easily Erik fell in with the cast and crew, charming them like he had charmed her. She couldn't imagine being any happier and that meant she was entitled to brag, posting a black and white shot of them in a heated embrace in their private car on the way back to the hotel. His large hand slipping under the silk of her dress while her hands were tangled in his soft blonde hair, their lips locked in a steamy kiss.
@isabel life has never been this good @6erikjohnson6

You know I understand that I’m very raw from everything PD has put me through in the last few weeks, but that doesn’t change the fact that I’m SO sick and tired of seeing Voight throw someone up against a wall to get what he wants.
Do we really have to watch an entire season of this again and do it without Jay to suffer through it all??
The better option to preserve the longevity of this show would have been to get rid of Voight (we all know this) but now it’s really a slap in the face with Jesse going.
I’m sorry but in 2022 you can’t keep giving Voight the same character progression that will never end with him really changing his behavior and having this show not implode on itself. I can understand even better how much of a joke Voight’s storyline was from end of season 8 through all of season 9.
It’s probably true that it’s one of the only procedurals still on television that can somehow get away with so much police violence (ahem bc the boomers are the ones watching that and thinking it’s okay)
I’d say do better CPD but we know exactly how far that will get. No where.

in seasons 8 and 9, hailey was generally the focus and jay just happened to be there and present but nothing more... there could be upstead parallels again in the next few seasons (the roy thing only with jay, hailey's "i'm still me you acting like i am not" only swapped that hailey lied 8x16 - 9x04 only that jay this time lied to hailey for whatever reason) which parallels would you like to have? and do you think that gwen and the writers are scared and cowardly with jay because they never do anything brutal with him and since season 8 he's only been getting boring stories...?
I'm sure the writers have something exciting for Upstead next season. They are a big part of the CPD fandom, so it would be a loss if they completely ignore Jay and Hailey like they did in 9b.
As for parallels, I wouldn't be surprised if we get some parallels in S10. I don't know if they would do another Roy storyline for Upstead since that would be repetitive and boring, but I hope the writers have something prepared for us Upstead fans.
I am a sucker for angst, and I would love Hailey put in a dangerous situation so we can get some parallels from S7, but instead of worried partner Hailey, I would want worried husband Jay.
One of my favorite quotes from S9 was from 9x03 when Hailey tells Jay, "You don't have to tell me anything. You can, and I'll love you all the same." It would be such a cool parallel if Jay said something like that to Hailey. Maybe something about her abusive childhood comes up, and Jay says, "You don't have to tell me anything, but know that I'll have your back no matter what."
It's unfair to say that the writers never give anything brutal for Jay because, in the past, we have seen Jay in challenging situations (S3, S7, etc). But you are right; the past 2 seasons, it has been pretty quiet when it comes to Jay. Most of his storylines are related to either Hailey or Voight. I really hope S10 that changes, and we see Jay dealing with something big and Hailey supporting him through it.

Do you have a favorite PD episode?
MEAN. I can't give you one single episode, dear anon. I can give you one from every season, which you did not ask for, but will get anyway!
Season 1: 8:30 PM (1x12) it's the crossover with Fire with the explosion at the hospital. The big spectacle episode- good stuff!
Season 2: A Number of Rats (2x20) WOW season 2 is Voight-heavy. I did enjoy the Yates stuff, though.
Season 3: The Cases that Need to be Solved (3x16) this is a tough episode to watch, but Jon Seda is so solid in this hour.
Season 4: A Shot Heard Around the World (4x08) one of the only true ensemble episodes
Season 5: Ghosts (5x18) Hailey is my favorite, Tracy is my favorite. No notes.
Season 6: Good Men (6x15) my hardest choice! This is the episode that pulled me back into CPD after I dropped it mid-season 4. The guest actor for Aiden is incredible and the "follow you blind" scene is iconic.
Season 7: I Was Here (7x13) admittedly Kim and Adam episodes don't typically draw me in but this one is painful and so, so good.
Season 8: Signs of Violence (8x11) see explanation for season 5.
Season 9: In the Dark (9x04) see explanations for season 5 and 8.
Peace!

I’m so co fused about how old Hailey is supposed to be. It’s like they keep changing things
It’s because they have changed things. First she was 12, then 10, when her dads diner got robbed. We got he being a cop for 10 years in season 8 then again nearly a full year later in season 9. You could dismiss this as her rounding up I guess. But yeah. CPD isn’t the first show that doesn’t seem to keep track of stuff like that and it won’t be the last, because it’s completely relevant.
I tend to put Hailey’s birthday in 1990, though you could argue early ‘91 as well. If she were a cop for 10 years in 2022, she’d have to be born in that range because rn, and for longer than a decade, CPD requires all probationary officers to be 21 years old. I know it’s a show and it doesn’t have to follow those rules, but DW has been very stringent on following the rules that they can within the bounds of his shows like age.

do you think that for an upstead baby, a time jump is the only "right and safe" thing to do? for example jay goes to jail and then hailey finds out she's pregnant (season finale) and then the next season there's a time jump of 8 or 9 months...
Firstly, why would Jay go to jail anon? 🤣🤣🤣 But to answer your question, yes, if we want a safe drama free pregnancy for Upstead the only way I can see that happen is if there's a time jump between them finding out and having the baby. There's no way CPD writes would do a pregnancy storyline without the angst. To be honest with you, when I first watched Med I was so chocked that Natalie had such an ease pregnancy and actualy got to have her baby, I was convinced that the actress was actually pregnant and that was why they did it that way. 😅

Honestly, my biggest wish for Chicago PD season 10 isn’t anything Upstead related. It’s two words: new blood. Shows get stale with the same cast for too long. This cast has been the same for two full season. The show still hasn’t filled Al’s or Rojas’ spots on Intelligence. And I wish they would bring back the patrol stories. I miss those.
There are three candidate that I think would be perfect to bring back. The first would actually be Lisseth Chavez as Rojas. That is a serious possibility now that “DC’s Legends of Tomorrow” is over. Unless there is more to why she left that I haven’t heard. The second is that cadet Torres that Jay mentored in that one episode “New Guard.” He was smart and compelling. The third option is Officer Andre Cooper who we saw for three episodes in season 8. He was the partner of that veteran cop who unjustifiably killed that black man a traffic stop.
The other thing I would like that is related to this is that I would like one of these new character to be LGBT+. And this wouldn’t be to just check some box. Of the twenty or so making characters that have appeared in and then left OneChicago, I think only three of them have been LGBT+ and they’ve all been on Fire (Shay, Foster, and Ritter). What do you think?
What changes would you make to my dumb rant, if any? Lol
So, I gotta apologize for taking forever to answer this but it kinda works with them just announcing that Benjamin Levy Aguilar will be returning as Torres. I know there are a lot of mixed feelings on him coming on as a series regular, but it will definitely add some of that new blood and new dynamics you are talking about. It has been a really long time since we've had a new character, and someone newer to policing as well. I am interested on how they handle his character, his backstory, and how he fits with the rest of Intelligence. I also agree that the shows need more LGBTQ+ representation. Chicago PD is going on it's tenth season and they are yet to have a main character (I don' think they've had a supporting character either?) who identifies as LGBTQ+. Representation with real and authentic storylines is important. This is something CPD has not always done a great job with and I'm hopeful as we move into a new season, they'll start to improve. I agree with your wonderful rant, anon! What are other's thoughts when it comes to new characters?
