Cult of the Beyond

It's 11pm as of writting this. So please enjoy my very confused driven short of an AU where Lambert is now The One Who Waits while Narinder end up as a sacrificial cat to prevent the arrival of Them. Heads up the 'comic' are just there to illustrate the story!

I didn't even know what I did wrong.

It all happened so suddenly. I was just gathering dry woods to keep us warm for the night. All of my family are asleep. Everyone in the village is asleep. It was the dead of night when it happened.

I like to think of myself as lucky for not being there the first time it happened. They ravaged our houses, kidnapped everyone. Not even leaving the livestock we manage alone. They burn it all to the ground. All to ashes.

I came back distraught at the sight of my burned village, I scream for help. I scream for my neighbor, my family, and no response was given. Only the dead silent was there to greet me.

I manage to live off of scraps I found in the forest. Berries, fruits, anything I can get my hands on, I eat and I feast on them. While foraging for food, I eavesdrop on some scouts passing by. Those hooded figures always rub me the wrong way anytime I meet them. Something about the one behind the gateway that will come through a cat vessel. Maybe that was why they burned my village down, kidnapped my family, leaving me with NOTHING!

I should've known that I'm not strong enough,

Not strong enough to bring my family back,

Not strong enough to fight them.

Because who could come back from the dead?

Standing infront of the tied up cat are the four bishops who rule the land. Their features bandaged and broken. No one truly knows why they're so badly beaten up. Especially knowing how strong they are.

The smooth stone the cat is standing one is painted with a red paint, or perhaps dried up old blood, in the shape of a star. The cat stand in the middle as he face the four bishops in fear.

One of them start to speak, her head the shape of a frog,

"Here stand before us, the last of it's kind."

So my family is truly dead.

Another continue where the other bishop stopped, this time the bishop have a head of a squid, though his 'horns' or 'ears' are chopped off.

"All of it's kind have been put to the blade, thus the prophecy shall never be fulfilled."

The prophecy those wicked scouts was talking about.

The worm-tree headed bishop speaks, his bandaged oozing black ichor.

"The one who waits beyond the gateway shall never rise."

Finally, the last bishop, who seems to be oldest just from their attire and venomous attitude speaks. All of their eyes focused on the cat.

".. and the Old Faith shall be preserved."

The cat winced at every word the bishops speak. His kind put to the blade just so some 'crearure' from beyond couldn't come here? What nonsense of a prophecy! But the poor cat couldn't argue. His claws, the weapon he's born with bounded by ropes and chains. His razor sharp teeth, clasp to silence by the heavy atmosphere.

Perhaps it is truly the end. The cat fearfully sink down to his knees, head down as the executor's axe comes down to chop his head but,

How .. how did I end up here?

The cat remember that the cold blade of the axe made contact with his neck. He could feel it slicing his head off. So why is he still conscious? Even worse..

Why am I standing infront of them? And who are they?

The one in the middle, they're all chained up to the ground. Or what it seems to be ground anyway. This place is dark and full of fog, the cat can barely see those shining red eyes piercing his soul. But they speak like an old friend,

"I've seen many of your kind pass through my gate, perhaps you are the last."

The two 'guards' standing infront of them give way for the cat, both of their horns and gaze sharp. Their eyes follow the cat as he make his way closer to the One they guard.

"Come closer, young one. Or shall I refer to you by your name? Narinder isn't it?"

It doesn't seem this, thing, even have a mouth to smile, but all of their eyes indicate that they're smiling. Narinder isn't sure if that 'smile' is genuine or not. But either way it's unsettling.

"Cat got your tongue? It's alright, you may refer to me as .. Lamb."

The Lamb rear their head closer to the cat, all three eyes shinning a sinister red hue.

"I have an offer for you, Narinder."
