Into, Across and Beyond! Cast: The Funkin' Crew

Origin: Friday Night Funkin' (most of the group); VS Sky (basis for ErrorSky)

"Benjamin Miku here! Let's get into action!" - Benjamin Miku/Boyfriend

"Aww, yeah! That's how you do it!" - Grace Dearest/Girlfriend

"I already lost one iteration of my best friends, and I'm not going to let another meet that same fate." - Pico N. Grounds

"It makes no sense for me to be held by the shackles of my past. I have friends who need me in the present AND the future!" - ErrorSky

The gang from Philadelphia; an aspiring music artist, a daughter to a demon family, a ginger-haired bounty hunter, and a fangirl of the formermost. Each of them have had their major points in history, and here in IAB! is no different. However, these aren't entirely the same Boyfriend, Girlfriend, Pico and Sky fans have grown to appreciate over the years. This story focuses on an entirely new group.

The important point that kickstarted their new story was the events of Mario's Madness, which led to the deaths of Boyfriend and Girlfriend at the hands of Ultra M, and Pico being stuck wandering in the haunted cartridge until he came across some strange being that reset the ENTIRE FNF universe and created a new iteration; Dimension FNF-NEW-2023.

Right away, there are some changes; the counterparts of Boyfriend and Girlfriend are vastly different, being dubbed "Benjamin" and "Grace" respectively, and it's through this that gives Pico a new connection to them. He just wanted them to be together in this timeline, too, and cared very much about their wellbeing. Granted, Benjamin did date Pico for a bit during high school, though they broke up for Ben's safety after the school shooting.

Speaking of that attack, Pico had remembered meeting his counterpart from Dimension DS-2022, and took a hint from him; he went straight for Cassandra to ensure lives could be saved from the shooting, and thanks to that, Pico had less of an interest in professional work than he once did. As it happened, he was the only one whose memories remained intact after the big reset.

In this universe, quite a bit had changed. Benjamin and Grace were both instead high-school students, and though Benjamin lacked the very high levels of bravery his original self did, he's still done his best to tackle the challenges laid before him. He's also more careful around asking people to sing with him, and holds off if that person isn't in the mood for it.

Benjamin and Grace's families were also bigger in this new universe. Taking a page from MizanPloz's Genderswaps mod and other mods, their families include parents (fresh ones in Ben's case), siblings (including their younger "genderswap" counterparts, Kaity and Chris) and cousins. And the two even made new friends out of those they had singing matches with, which Pico really enjoyed seeing.

As for ErrorSky, she ended up coming into the new universe as an accidental anomaly, and found herself admiring Benjamin like most iterations of Sky would admire their Boyfriends. Predictably, it backfired in her face, but she came out of it not wanting to intrude on Benjamin's love life. Unfortunately, she became a prime target for the monster known as Toxinfect, but with help from one of the other victims of his wrath, she overcame the monster and guaranteed her escape, even reconciling with Benjamin and Grace afterwards.

During that same time, the Corruption struck Philly, courtesy of the Lemon Demon, though it lasted two weeks in total, and unfortunately for the Monster, it grew in sentience and soon betrayed him. Thankfully, Benjamin, Grace, Pico and their companions were all able to fight off the virus and get rid of it. And better still, they got on Daniel Dearest's good side permanently thanks to this. If Agent Blueballs' foothold on canon events were to apply here from Funkinverse, then the Corruption is their shared canon event.

After both these events, ErrorSky became besties with Benjamin and Grace, preferring to remain at a friend level to make up for her prior advances, though has been blushy in Grace's presence as well as Benjamin's. It's sometime after that the blasted cartridge incident came back, this time in the form of a disc with Mario AND Sonic horrors within. This time, they avoided death, freed SHM from the confines (who was Victim #1, or "Madeline") and overpowered Xenophanes, who was the REAL mastermind behind it.

Once that was all said and done, the four discovered the path into the Errorverse via an interdimensional portal. Thanks to going through it, they ended out aging down into teens, like Nitro and his siblings before them. Thanks to this, they ended up becoming more involved in the quests of those in this dimension; helping free the Literature Club girls from their game for good, Benjamin giving a kid dubbed "AE M." companionship (and leading to them becoming boyfriends), fighting off evil corporate businessmen and sentient viruses, and further expanding Benjamin's music scene overall.

Speaking of that, the influence of Funkin' culture has happened to be part of the multiverse's music scene, even if it's not to everyone's tastes. And it just so happens that it seems to be popular in Dimension MP-2021, especially with OMT!Tails. It's to the point where, when CR!Sonic told him to keep calm about the wall-clinging in One More Hero, he did some of the beatboxing from "Fresh" to keep him steady. Of his composed songs, of course, Benjamin isn't too proud about "Really Happy" from Sunday Night, considering its nature and the awful screen-shake effect it caused.

This later leads into More than One Universe, the point where Benjamin and his crew are brought into the events via the Errorverse link. Through this, they each lent a hand in apprehending the villains that had leaked through into the OMT universe. During this time, however, Benjamin almost fell victim to demonic possession from the Puhoi curse, with three outcomes; him escaping solo with Soul BF, him losing and branching into becoming Bently, and, in the case of the scenario post-EV-rewrite, Nitro interfering before it can hold for long.

After the end of it, Benjamin was happy to sign an autograph for OMT!Tails, since the kid was a pretty big fanboy of him, and EV!Sonic saw quite the potential in him, since Benjamin was an angel in this shared universe. The following day was when Pico finally came clean to Benjamin about the timeline reset, which he took pretty well, all-in-all. And that Christmas, he met Soft Benjamin (a younger incarnation) for the first time, he, the Mikus and Dearests gave the Fairests their karma and prompt arrest, and he decided to adopt Softie into his family, which the kid was really happy about. It's through Softie that he got to meet his other counterparts from other universes (like Neo, B3, Minus, B-Sides, D-Sides and Arrow Funk).

Amongst other things, he has also been taking good care of Evan from FNF: Childhood Memories, and helps babysit him each Sunday in his free time, the time they spend together reigniting some of Benjamin's childhood memories. Since Evan and Holly obviously aren't suited for combat, it's why neither actually appear in the base stories, as I've planned to instead feature them in more casual slice-of-life storylines to tie in to the mod while work on it continues.

Sometime after this was when The X struck during one of Salty's crusades, and the attack left Sunday, roommate of Carol and good friend of Ben and Grace, with protanopia, meaning they can't see red anymore. When Cam (Agent Blueballs) tried to recruit Benjamin into the Funkin' Society using Kenji as association, this backfired massively, and due to Benjamin's well-respected position amongst the Boyfriends, this quickly earned Cam even MORE ire amongst counterparts across the multiverse), including from the original Soft Pico.

After The X was successfully detained by the Quill Society, which took more work than you'd think despite him being weaker by the events of IAB!, EV!Sonic approached Benjamin for a potential place in the Quill Society, which he accepted, though was confused about.

As EV!Sonic explained later, Benjamin was offered this place due to a mix of him being an angel, him sporting the ECHO ability to keep pace with hostile villains, and indirectly hailing from a SEGA property thanks to his ties with Hatsune Miku. These were enough to give Benjamin his position in the group, and he was able to increase his connections through it. ErrorSky also joined in, having built her own community with other Skys. That said, she dislikes Miko a LOT, due to her being an internet jerk.

As for Pico, his quest to ensure a better future for his friends paid off, and he could get his closure for the original BF and GF in that their legacy would live on through his newer friends and their families.

To count any canon events each of the crew have gone through (relative to Blueballs' way of thinking in the Funkin' Society):

Benjamin:

He had dropped out of high school, though not immediately, only after the Corruption was gone to ensure it couldn't hurt any of his classmates.

Benjamin has three companions supporting him together; Grace, Pico and ErrorSky. The latter two are not committed relationships, which isn't a requirement.

The bad song Benjamin composed was "Really Happy", and he's actively not proud of it.

Benjamin has fought off the Corruption when it struck his world, and has never encountered or been claimed by any denizens of the Darkness.

Grace:

Like Benjamin, she only dropped out of high school in the aftermath of the Corruption.

Grace has Benjamin as her main supporting companion.

She encountered the Corruption much like her friends, though was never claimed by the Darkness.

Pico:

Pico dropped out of high school in the aftermath of the shooting incident, like his original self did, and moved to mercenary work. However, in the new timeline, it's only undercover work to get Daniel Dearest back on a good side.

Pico's supporting companions, as usual, are Nene and Darnell, though he's yet to make things click romantically with either.

Pico, as per his canon event, took a stand against the Corruption first-hand and aided in eradicating it after being freed. He also had to fight off one Darkness infectee and came out no worse for wear.

He lost the original Boyfriend and Girlfriend in his canon event.

ErrorSky:

As per tradition for Sky variants, ErrorSky had crushed on Benjamin in the past, though saw what she was doing was wrong.

Her parents died through her canon event, courtesy of Toxinfect.

Benjamin's top-selling songs:

A cover of Vocaloid song "Idol", deviating from his usual beep-boop singing act.

"Serendipity" from Vs. Radi and Lofie (ft. Lofie)

"The Division - Destruction of Boyfriend" (cover of his own sister's song; ft. Softie)

And as for a little extra trivia related to the bunch:

ErrorSky actively dislikes Miko and has gone to great lengths to vandalise her twisted social media acts for the sakes of others. She's also actively at odds with Faker Sky, those two being the ONLY Skies she hates.

Pico had been twice-shy around Nene, having once kissed her cheek to cheer her up, but feeling extremely embarrassed about it afterwards.

Sombreros, serapes and maracas, horrible pronunciations, jokes about Mexican stand-offs, and really strange-looking tacos — did the “Mexican Week” episode of “The Great British Baking Show” leave any stereotypical stone unturned? After a similar debacle with Season 11’s “Japanese Week,” the internationally beloved competition series — which streams on Netflix in the U.S. — apparently decided not to learn from its mistakes, and dove headlong into Mexican food. And since the competition is largely to determine who can create the best baked goods, many observers wondered, why were they attempting tacos, anyway?

Even before the episode dropped on Oct. 7, the promos featuring sombrero-wearing hosts Noel Fielding and Matt Lucas came under fire from social media commenters — largely from the U.S., where finding a good taco is not as difficult as in the U.K. — who were quick to weigh in on the show’s utter failure to try to understand more than the most obvious characteristics of Mexican food and culture. Even the English-language plural of the word cactus eluded one of the contestants — not to mention the woman whose absolutely wretched try at guacamole sounded more like “glakeemolo.”

“It’s not hard to learn to pronounce words correctly, even for a living muppet of a host,” wrote José Ralat, the Taco Editor of Texas Monthly magazine.

“Tacos, new one on me,” says one contestant, as they are given the assignment for the technical challenge of making tortillas from canned “yellow field corn” and adding steak, spicy refried beans, guacamole and pico de gallo to make some sort of gloppy pile of taco topped with rare meat. The difference between tacos and “torteellas” perplexes one chef while the other predictably worries, “I just hope my chili is not too hot!”

But Austin, Texas-based journalist Kate Sánchez tried to put the furor into perspective, noting “Don’t get me wrong it’s definitely racist but also DACA was deemed illegal and my community is being actively harmed by forces not on my TV so glocklymolo and ominous maraca shaking is at least the stuff I can laugh at.” However, she did admit that peeling an avocado like a potato constituted “an act of physical violence against my people.”

“Absolutely haunted by this week’s #GBBO, I will never get the image of Carole peeling an avocado like a potato out of my head,” agreed Twitter user @IWillLeaveNow.

“Bracing ourselves for a whole lot of cringe,” wrote German-based historian and teacher Daniel Salina Córdova, who also shared a bingo card featuring all the stereotypically Mexican tropes used on the show.

“Mexican week on the #GBBO is so cringingly racially and culturally insensitive I have to ask how it was approved,” wrote @kcrusher on Twitter.

Did the show decide it might be better to apologize for stereotypes that have created harmful images of Mexican people for years? No, it did not, it made a silly taco joke. Netflix did not respond to a request for comment.

Universal Cross Wrestling (Year 1, Month 1)

In a distant time and a distant place, a deal is struck out between that of the WWE, the realm of Newgrounds, and the Eorzean Alliance to conjure up a one-night wrestling event featuring some of the most iconic and well-known names from all three respective brands. Though it runs under the branding of a normal Survivor Series pay-per-view, it is pitched as a 3-way dance between WWE, Newgrounds, and Final Fantasy XIV live from Madison Square Garden in New York City. What comes of this night? Only time will tell…

WWE Vs. Newgrounds Vs. FFXIV

Survivor Series

To open the show with a rather David Vs. Goliath-esque match-up, Tricky the Clown is set to face G'raha Tia in a normal one on one contest. The match lasts for around 10 minutes, and despite Graha's best efforts to keep up with the mad clown, Tricky defeats the Miqo'te in a convincing fashion to net Newgrounds their first point of the pay-per-view.

The second contest of the night is an intergender tag-team match that pits Boyfriend and Girlfriend against Montez Ford and Bianca Belair. Though both teams show much promise within the ring--courtesy of all four's shared high-flying prowess--Montez and Bianca come out on top to earn the WWE their first point of hopefully many.

In the third match of the night, Ardbert, representing Final Fantasy XIV, faces off against a returning Daniel Bryan who represents the WWE in a close-quarters brawl full of stiff strikes and excellent mat wrestling. The match concludes with Ardbert using his strength to overpower Bryan and pick up the win by pinfall, scoring FFXIV their first point.

The pay-per-view's fourth match sees one of WWE's best tag teams take on Newgrounds's most recognizable duo; Kyle O'Reilly and Bobby Fish of reDRagon versus Sanford and Deimos of Madness Combat. In this match, the clashing styles of high-octane, mat-based wrestling of the Undisputed Era and the aggressive, heavy hitting fighting style of Sanford and Deimos go hand in hand in a 15-minute long classic which sees the Nevadan locals come out on top against reDRagon.

The fifth match of the night is the pinnacle of hoss wrestling with Raubahn Aldynn going against Brock Lesnar in a no holds barred match. The two are caught fighting before the match even begins, and from then on it escalates into a state of violence more fit for an octagon than a ring. By the sliver of a chance that his own will will allow him to keep pushing onward, Raubahn defeats Brock Lesnar in the closest match of the night and with his hand held high.

The flagship match of the show comes underway as Team WWE (Roman Reigns, Drew McIntyre, Finn Balor) Team FFXIV (Thancred, Y'shtola, Papalymo) and Team Newgrounds (Pico, Nene, Darnell) all face off in a 3V3V3 Traditional Survivor Series match that pits all three brands against each other for the first time that night. Elimination after elimination is doled out between teams until it comes down to Finn Balor and Nene in the climax of the 30 minute war, ending with Balor picking up the victory for Team WWE and being the sole survivor of the entire match.

As the WWE, Newgrounds and FFXIV brands are all tied for 2 points each, the main event of the night comes as John Cena, Hank J. Wimbleton, and the Warrior of Light all clash in a triple threat match to determine which brand will reign supreme at night's end. A match that lasts for upwards to a half hour, not any of the three men have what it takes to put each other away for the victory.

That is, until a blindsiding superkick knocks Cena off balance enough to give Hank the opportunity to pick up the win, securing Newgrounds as the victors of the night and prompting a celebration. That superkick that gifted Hank and the rest of Newgrounds that victory, however, was not the result of the Warrior of Light or by Hank himself, but from an outside party with an agenda of their own;

a blue haired, brown cloaked girl who is soon revealed to be Sky.

With the success of Survivor Series prompting demand for even more action from the three brands, a joint company is created between them known as Universal Cross Wrestling (UCW) to give its newly acquitted fans just that. With Triple H and William Regal at the helm as the brands General Managers, UCW kicks itself into high gear with its first month of programming taking place in Canada. Hank is crowned as the flagship star of UCW and is given the UCW World Heavyweight Championship to commemorate that; soon being told that a challenger for his title will be decided in the coming weeks.

This challenger will be fished from a set of 2 fatal-4 way matches, each of which will consist of the following superstars: Daniel Bryan, G'raha Tia, Finn Balor, and John Cena in the first match, alongside Nene, Ardbert, Tricky, and Raubahn in the second match. The winners of both of those fatal-4 ways will meet in a one-on-one contest, and the winner of that match will face Hank for the UCW Championship at UCW'S first official pay-per-view, Starrcade.

As a requisite reward for their victories at Survivor Series, Montez Ford and his fellow street profit tag team partner Angelo Dawkins are pitted against Sanford and Deimos to crown UCW's first ever Tag Team Champions. In a brutal and fast-paced clinic of a match, Wasteland Blood pick up the victory and secure the Tag Team titles for themselves, but not without shaking the hands of the Street Profits and showing them their due respect.

Bianca Belair and Girlfriend face each other one-on-one to crown UCW's first Women's Champion, and in a 20 minute clash full of emotion and hardship, Bianca is able to take home the gold and cement herself as champion.

The first of the two announced Fatal-4 ways takes place as Daniel Bryan, G'raha Tia, Finn Balor, and John Cena all square off against each other for the opportunity of a lifetime at the very beginning of UCW's life. In this nearly 40 minute slugfest of a match, Finn Balor is the one who's able to pick up the victory and awaits his opponent in the coming weeks.

------ Mid-Month Break ------

During an interview with Ardbert of the Warriors of Darkness, he claims that his victory against Daniel Bryan at Survivor Series was only the beginning of his path to glory, and promises to represent both the First and his friends on his quest to reach the top of UCW and become World Heavyweight Champion. During this interview however, he is confronted by Roman Reigns, who doesn't even give him the time of day with words and only stares daggers into the eyes of the axe-wielding hero.

William Regal is given the opportunity as General Manager to select two superstars for a match to crown UCW's first ever Openweight Champion. With longevity and spectacle being his main priority for such an occasion, he calls upon the likes of Karrion Kross and Sami Zayn to battle for the belt.

This results in a 15 minute David Vs. Goliath contest with a hopeful Sami coming up short against the monstrous Kross, crowing the new champion and inserting him into the titles caveat; once every week, Karrion Kross must defend the Openweight Championship in an open challenge to the entire roster. There are no limitations to who can challenge for or hold the belt no matter who they are, and Kross plans to run a warpath through UCW no matter who decides to step to him.

Finn Balor's opponent for the final show before Starrcade is decided as Nene, Ardbert, Tricky, and Raubahn all face off for the opportunity of a lifetime in one of the month's many main events. Despite a very divisive mixture of styles in terms of wrestling and fighting prowess, a 20 minute classic comes out of this fatal-4 way as Nene is able to pick up the victory and secure her match against Finn Balor. As she celebrates however, Sky emerges from the rafters above and gives the knife-crazy contender an unnoticed glare. Roman Reigns can also be seen sitting in the crowd during the match, studying Ardbert with a disappointed expression.

On the go-home show before Starrcade, the entire UCW roster is called to the ring as both GM's appoint them to a bright, prosperous future for the promotion. With two championships still undecided, however--that of the Undisputed and Submission titles--Triple H makes the decision to call upon those who he feels would be the best fit to face off for those prestigious prizes. For the Undisputed Championship, he chooses AJ Styles and Kevin Owens.

For the Submission Championship, he chooses Pete Dunne and Cesaro. Regal announces after his choices are made that the first match of a Tag Team Championship tournament will be held at Starrcade, pitting that of Johnny Gargano and Austin Theory of The Way up against Wes Lee and Nash Carter of MSK to end the segment.

Roman Reigns is scheduled to have a match against Dolph Ziggler later in the show, but is stopped by Ardbert who questions him on his intentions as per the stare he gave him during Ardbert's interview and fatal-4 way match. Roman explains that, per his own experience, he knows a leader when he sees one, and claims that someone like Ardbert who has to rely on other people to carry his baggage and can't get the job done when it counts isn't fit for the role of a leader.

Ardbert takes this claim as fighting words, and denounces Roman's point with a mentioning of the Shield falling apart and his lack of caring for his "brother" Dean Ambrose when he needed him the most. Now, with both men offended at the other's prospect, a match is made between them by Triple H at Starrcade; a No Holds Barred match.

Bianca Belair hosts an open challenge to anyone who wants to come for her Women's Championship; claiming that there is no one in UCW brave enough to take on someone of her youth and caliber after the show she put on against Girlfriend. After a moment, however, Y'shtola accepts her challenge and states that she's brave enough because she knows she'll take the title off of Bianca--the both of them agreeing to save the matchup for Starrcade with Regal's approval.

In the main event of the go home show before Starrcade, Finn Balor and Nene clash in a one-on-one competition for the ages in which both combatants give their all just like they did at Survivor Series. Despite the 20 minute classic pushing them both to their very limits, Nene is able to overcome the prince with two critical superkicks and safely secure her match against Hank at Starrcade.

The champion and challenger then meet in the ring after the match, trading words ahead of the big day. It is then announced by Triple H after they meet that their match at Starrcade will be a 2 out of 3 falls match.

A primeira pessoa que eu vou citar aqui é a minha melhor amiga, Larissa.

Larissa, singular, transmite tranquilidade por onde passa, é paciente, calma e as vezes faz umas merdas. Ela é tão especial que quando eu disse que me mudaria pro Rio Grande do Sul, pediu demissão do emprego, encarou uma trip de mais de 30h com muitoooo perrengue comigo só para não me deixar sozinha! Passou um mês aqui comigo (infelizmente teve que ir embora) conheceu uma galera daqui comigo, os meus colegas de trabalho, um churrasco beeeem gaúcho e minha nova casa. Larissa, por mais que você esteja longe. EU TE AMO GURIA. Saiba disso.

Os 75 anos da Expedição Kon-Tiki: homenagem e tributo a Thor Heyerdahl nos 20 anos de sua morte (parte 5)

O incansável Heyerdahl ainda envolveu-se na investigação da povoação inicial das Ilhas Maldivas, no Oceano Índico, a sudoeste do Sri Lanka e da Índia e ao sul do continente asiático, constituído por 1.196 ilhas. Em Tenerife, a maior ilha do Arquipélago das Canárias, descobriu uma pirâmide com orientação solar datada do tempo dos guanches, o povo nativo de tez e olhos claros, cabelos por vezes loiros e elevada estatura que faria parte dos povos protoberberes que colonizaram o norte de África, desde o Egito à atual Mauritânia há treze mil ou quinze mil anos atrás.

Inspirado em Heyerdahl, em 1984 o advogado, explorador e aventureiro argentino Alfredo Barragán, junto com mais quatro compatriotas (Jorge Iriberri, Horacio Giaccaglia, Daniel Sánchez Magariños e Félix Arrieta), organizou e empreendeu o que batizou de “Expedición Atlantis”.

Com fervor romântico e muita bravura, em 22 de maio partiram do Porto de Tenerife, nas Ilhas Canárias, e 52 dias depois, em 12 de julho, tendo percorrido 3.200 milhas náuticas (5.000 quilômetros), chegaram em La Guaira, capital do estado e do município de Vargas, no centro-norte da Venezuela, a 30 quilômetros de Caracas, provando que 3.500 anos antes de Colombo, navegantes africanos poderiam perfeitamente ter chegado às costas da América levados apenas pelas correntes marítimas. A travessia foi feita com uma balsa de troncos muito semelhante ao Kon-Tiki, medindo 13,60 metros de comprimento por 5,80 metros de largura, dotada de uma cabana de bambu, sem timão e com somente uma vela.

De 1988 a 1992, Heyerdahl liderou amplas escavações em Túcume, a maior concentração de pirâmides em todo o mundo, com 250 estruturas piramidais construídas de tijolos de barro (adobe) por volta do ano 1100 e espalhadas em uma área de 220 hectares a 33 quilômetros ao norte da cidade de Chiclayo, noroeste do Peru.

Ao lado do sítio arqueológico (chamado pela população local de “El Purgatorio”) se encontra a pequena cidade de Túcume, no centro da província de Lambayeque, o maior vale do litoral norte do Peru. A fundação da cidade entre 1000 e 1100, coincidiu com a queda de Batán Grande – que acabou queimada e abandonada – ao longo do Rio Chancay. Acredita-se que o local foi ocupado primeiramente pelo povo de Sicán ou Lambayeque entre 1000 e 1370, seguido pelo de Chimú entre 1370 e 1470, e finalmente pelos incas entre 1470 e 1532 (data da chegada dos espanhóis). Em 1547, o local foi abandonado.

Bastante erodidas devido a abundante chuva que cai nesta parte da costa peruana, as pirâmides teriam servido de centros de cultos religiosos e/ou palácios residenciais para a elite aristocrática. Das 26 grandes pirâmides, a principal delas é a Pirâmide do Sol (Huaca del Sol), com uma base de 345 metros, 160 metros de largura e 50 metros de altura. Usada para rituais, cerimônias e como tumba real, foi construída pela cultura Mochica (100-800) perto do pico vulcânico de Cerro Blanco, próximo a Trujillo, no Vale do Moche. Por volta do ano 450, oito plataformas haviam sido concluídas. A técnica consistia em ir adicionando novas camadas de tijolos diretamente sobre as antigas. Mais de uma centena de diferentes comunidades contribuíram na confecção dos 130 milhões de tijolos de adobe que a compõem e que faz dela a maior estrutura de adobe pré-colombiana construída nas Américas.

A segunda maior pirâmide é Huaca de la Luna, com uma base quadrada de 87 metros e 21 metros de altura. A 5 quilômetros ao sul de Trujillo e a 500 metros da Huaca del Sol, foi construída pela mesma cultura Moche ou Mochica (100-800 d.C.) em época posterior. Composta de três plataformas sobrepostas (construídas ao longo de seiscentos anos), delimitada por grandes paredes de adobe com áreas de interconexão, a Huaca de la Luna era um centro de culto da fertilidade agrícola.

Em um altar cerimonial do último templo construído, foram descobertos os restos de quarenta soldados sacrificados. As esculturas retratam divindades com cabeça de condor e raposa, pescadores, uma cobra, enormes caranguejos com facas cerimoniais, personagens de mãos dadas e sacerdotes. Huaca Larga ou Grande Pirâmide, construída entre 1000 e 1350, mede 450 metros de comprimento, 100 metros de largura e 40 metros de altura. A leste de Huaca Larga, o Templo da Pedra Sagrada é pequeno e tem a forma de U. Dentro de Huaca I, na ala sudeste, com 32 metros de altura e rampa de acesso longa, alta e estreita, se encontra Huaca las Balsas. Um pássaro mítico é representado de muitas maneiras em Huaca las Balsas: de pé na crista de uma onda, segurando um objeto redondo ou remando em jangadas. A figura do pássaro é tão importante que é decorado com um grande cocar em forma de meia-lua, símbolo de poder. Essas imagens são recorrentes nas sete camadas sobrepostas, cada uma cobrindo a camada anterior. As cenas relacionadas com jangadas e criaturas do mar perfazem a quase totalidade das encontradas em Huaca las Balsas.

Bastou ouvir a lenda de que o lugar foi fundado pelo rei Naymlap, um herói mítico que teria partido do México com sua corte de servos e soldados em uma grande frota de jangadas de balsa e construído a cidade com a ajuda de camponeses locais em torno de Cerro La Raya, uma elevação rochosa que fica no meio da planície, para que Heyerdahl rumasse sem demora para lá. Ao ver aquela paisagem que lhe “parecia de outro planeta”, ficou tão fascinado que não se limitou a armar uma tenda nos arredores, mas construiu ali um casarão. Todos os dias ele ia a cavalo ao local das escavações para supervisionar os trabalhos que estavam sendo patrocinados conjuntamente pelo Museu do Kon-Tiki[27] e pelo Instituto Nacional de Cultura do Peru (atual Ministério da Cultura). O seu maior colaborador era o arqueólogo peruano Walter Alva (1951-), especialista em cultura Moche que em 1987 descobriu em Sipán o corpo intacto de um senhor Moche cheio de joias e ouro que a National Geographic Society descreveu como “o mais rico túmulo pré-colombiano intacto do Hemisfério Ocidental”.

Heyerdahl pretendia descobrir os segredos enterrados naquele que foi o centro de um vasto império que permaneceu inatacado durante mil anos até cair nas mãos dos incas. As escavações encontraram vários túmulos contendo fantásticos objetos funerários, incluindo belas estatuetas de prata. Ta.bém foram achados indícios de que ali se praticava um comércio inter-regional com o Equador, o Panamá e o Chile (donde se originariam objetos de lápis-lazúli). Uma bem preservada parede de adobe estava decorada com o desenho de homens a bordo de dois navios de grande porte feitos de junco e rodeados por peixes e aves marinhas. Também foi encontrado um pote de cerâmica negra que mostrava dois homens a bordo de um barco de junco. O projeto de Heyerdahl culminou com a criação de um museu em Túcume ao lado de Huaca I.
