@emmynominatedmullet and I recently had a Bruce Boxleitner movie night where we unexpectedly and serendipitously chose two movies with similar themes. Enter Double Mommy (2016) and Diplomatic Immunity (1991).

Double Mommy, terrible and dumb title aside, was a very entertaining but bad Lifetime movie where Bruce plays a rich asshole with a rapist son. There’s really no other way to put it. The movie deals with some heavy topics, but overall the whole vibe is very… sanitized and felt almost like a Pure Flix special feature. Was this movie good? Again, no but I had lots of fun suspending my belief that these twenty-somethings were fresh-faced high schoolers and the scene of Bruce throwing a glass into a pool only for it to miraculously float on the water is amazing. Spoiler alert: Bruce dies in the end, killed by his own POS son.

Diplomatic Immunity sees Bruce as a Cool Marine Dad (both SCUBA and Semper Fi). We first see him and his daughter on a beach, where we meet her foreign boyfriend who whisks her away to a pre-murder night at the art gallery. We’re then treated to a convincing bit of acting later when Bruce cry-vomits into a toilet after identifying his daughter at the morgue. Get ready for Action Bruce™ because there’s a lot of him kicking figurative and literal ass in this movie. Ramming an airport security gate, chaining a bad guy to a St. Andrew’s cross, and riding around in a fabulous tinsel-decorated car. His Bowie lookalike buddy sadly does not make it to Fiji, but an exploding camera gives Bruce the closure he needs to finally avenge his daughter. Spoiler alert: Bruce’s hair is subjected to a poor spray dye job of Old Man Gray.

Started listening to Diplomatic Immunity again this morning. Literal full body chill when Miles dreads the day some "bland faced officer" addresses him as "Count Vorkosigan, sir". No matter how many times I read Cryoburn I will never be ready for that scene.
