So recently I noticed that I always seem to fall in love with the girls that don't get chosen by the protagonist. Trying to deal with those constant heartbreaks, I started to gather some moments to remind myself that those protagonists are, in fact, complete morons. Hence, my mutuals, I proudly present to you my list of 'girls that should have been picked because they're obviously the best choice but weren't which leaves me empty (heavily subjective)':
1. Rem [Re:Zero kara Hajimeru Isekai Seikatsu]
I will never accept this
2. Onodera Kosaki [Nisekoi]
Probably the most painful one
3. Nakano Miku (and Nino being a close second) [Go-Toubun no Hanayome]
I don't hate the other quints, but those two just won my heart
4. Shichimiya Satone [Chuunibyou demo Koi ga Shitai!]
This scene keeps me up at night
5. Tachibana Rui [Domestic na Kanojo]
The last few chapters of this are a dumpster fire, so take a happy image instead (honorable mention: Serizawa Miyabi)
6. Ichigo [DARLING in the FRANXX]
Another train wreck of an ending
7. Roze [Kyou no Cerberus]
Great character development and just adorable

So I started reading this ecchi manga called DomeXKano (like, “Domestic Girl” or “Domestic Girlfriend”). The beginning premise is this guy and this girl lose their virginities to each other because she’s tired of people telling her she just doesn’t UNDERSTAND because she’s a virgin, and he’s trying to get over his crush on his teacher.
And then his dad is like “guess what I’m getting remarried, and my new wife-to-be has two daughters” and the two daughters are the virgin girl and the teacher.
And the manga just goes fucking insane after a while. Like, at first it’s a lot of sexy love triangle stuff, and then eventually there’s a crazy stalker and someone gets stabbed and then he gets kidnapped by drug dealers and it’s just... wild. The sexy stuff drops off right around where the manga gets insane, it’s weird.
Also since it’s a shounen ecchi manga there’s a lot of just boobs for no real reason, but also they’re censored so it’s like... nipple-less boobs. It’s weird.
But it’s cool because the main male character is actually attractive, and isn’t a huge sad-sack that leaves you wondering why anyone likes him, let alone the like 7 girls who are interested in him at various points. He’s got goals - to be a WRITER, and not to have a harem or something - and he’s noble and stuff.
Also I’m pretty convinced the author must’ve been an assistant to Natsuki Takaya, because the artwork is similar to the art from the end of Fruits Basket, and also the whole “literally everybody has some kind of tragic past” thing is pretty Fruits Basket-y. There’s no other similarities, it’s just something I wonder about.
Anyway it’s super weird, this crazy ecchi manga inspired me to start writing again because the main character was writing so much.
