Person B: I mean the easter eggs were nice, but it made the movie feel like a commercial. Person A: Omg, it's just a kid's movie! Why you gotta take it so seriously? Months later... Person A, after seeing Wish: Omg, this movie is nothing but easter eggs! And they're trying to make a Disney cinematic universe!! This movie is so terrible!!! Person B: The easter eggs are just references and jokes. They're not meant to be taken seriously. Person A: Omg, stop defending Disney you shill!!!

What is your opinion about Disney?
Oh boy... This is a complicated question for me.
And the main reason is that I have a lot of Nostalgia for Disney. I grew up watching and loving animated Disney movies and tv shows and is probably the main reason I have such a love for animation and music. And even when I rewatch the movies and the shows they still hold up, some even are better than I remember and show clear mastery and love for art and creativity. The truth is I love these characters and I love these stories and I honestly don't think I could ever truly hate Disney...
But I can still be disappointed. And unfortunately, Disney has and continues to do disappointing things. It would be wrong to ignore all of the bad elements of Disney. Unfortunately, Disney made quite a bit of racist media both in shorts and in movies, and as a mixed person (half-black and half-white) it honestly a truth that is hard for me to truly accept at times. Disney played a major role in really messing up our copyright system making it harder for more media to be in the public domain, despite them liberally using public domain characters to make their stories. Even now with the war in Gaza, it sucks to see Disney officially only side with Israel and not with the Palestinians, with some of them even wearing Disney merchandise. And honestly, I am really worried with the disaster of Wish, Disney+ confusion, and the rise of AI, that Disney will start making some really big anti-creative decisions and somehow even destroy the parts people still like about Disney.
But with that said, I do think there is one element that people tend to forget when talking about the pros and cons of Disney. They are not a monolith. Disney is full of constantly changing and moving people all with completely different politics, opinions, and goals, and contributions. Tbh you could argue that the only time it has been like that is when Walt was in charge and even that is debatable. As a result the people who are doing the stuff I love are rarely the ones doing the stuff I find frustrating. I know artists who work on Disney shows that are supportive of Palestine. Heck you can even feel the internal battle at Disney when it comes to trying to add more LGBTQ+ and diverse content. There are people are trying their best to use their time at Disney to create positive media for future generations, just as much as there those trying to hide or shoot down those media. And even in cases the people causing harm are the same ones making the parts I like, that unfortunately is a constant in life, no matter where you go. Gottfredson made one of my favorite Disney comic characters, but he also did and said quite a bit of racist things. This isn't a justification, but something you can't completely avoid or ignore and have to decide how to handle yourself. To be honest that alone is a completely different essay. But the point is that people change and Disney 100 years ago is different from Disney 30 years ago which is different than Disney today. And even within Disney, not everyone agrees and supports the same things.
And personally, I feel like people tend to overcorrect when it comes to criticism of Disney and act like they have been nothing but a bland corporation with no creativity or positive impact on the world at all. I feel like people tend to group Disney with corporations like McDonalds as if they don't produce any artistic endeavors at all, but just generic content and I can't really believe or support that either. Regardless of how you feel about Disney. They have made such an impact on not just animation, not just on American media and culture, but everything all over the world. Anime is heavily inspired by Disney. Videogame Mascots like Sonic and Mario are inspired by Disney. Even media that takes shots at Disney like Shrek wouldn't have existed without Disney. To be honest it would be harder to find stuff without some element of Disney influence. As I said before a lot of amazing movies have been made with Disney and wouldn't have existed without it. I would consider The Great Mouse Detective and Beauty and the Beast straight-up masterpieces. And it was through Disney that they even got made. Disney can have its frustrating eras (like now), but they're also an effective tool to allow amazing movies and shows to be created. And in a world that doesn't value animation, we still need companies like Disney to still have that faith and support. At least I hope we can.
So to make a long story short, I think it is important to acknowledge the flaws and not ignore or hide them, but to also recognize the artistic achievements as well. Disney had a positive impact on me and nothing will be able to change that. Disney is a constantly changing cultural force that will grow along with us. It will continue to evolve as new people take the reins. Some will try to make up for past mistakes and move forward and some will repeat those mistakes and cause more problems.
All that we can hope is that the good will outweigh the bad.

Saw your answer to the question about Sonic Movie 1 outselling Birds of Prey and wanted to put my own 2 cents into it. That being I agree that they are 2 different types of movies and people should stop comparing them. This reminds me of the Mario Movie (2023) and how it's fanbase got really toxic to be honest.
Tumblr media
It's why I had to make this stamp on my DA! I'm not saying that the movie's a bad movie but I'm saying that the defenders of this film act horrible. They attack the critics on RT for giving this movie a 58% score (let me remind you while that is a negative score it's not as bad as some other movies with low scores) and because of that its fans were saying that critics were wrong or even were trying to put their political believes into it. By saying that all the critics are "woke" when if you actually took the time to read the reviews you can see why people aren't in love with this film as many Mario fans are. It works better as a fun little time for fan service then a narrative with substance.
Oh wow! Sorry but I had to check again that answer cause I didn't even remember it haha (that happen when people ask me every 10 years)
I didn't know about this issue with Mario Movie, since I'm not very into the Mario fandom honestly. I did watch the movie and I enjoyed a lot with every reference about the franchise, I didn't expect anything else more than simple plot for children and a ton of references for the fans, honestly. The visual is precious, they did a very good job that Mario fans can enjoy, but that's all, I don't see it as The Movie of the Year XD nor a big deal. That would be my opinion about the movie.
And well, like in any other fandom, there's toxic people/fans who just throws bullshit though their mouth so as always...
Tumblr media
These toxic people will be always the rotten shit part of the fandom sadly (any fandom). The best would be ignore them and don't give them any attention which that's what they want. These kind of "fans", if you can call them fans, don't have a realistic view of the things and whatever they like it will be in an altar and idealized. That is a tunnel vision and closed when it comes to giving an opinion. I mean, you can have your opinion and liking or not something, totally respectful, but you can't force people to agree with you and state your opinion is absolutely true and anyone else is wrong. So nasty and toxic behaviour. As you said:
"if you actually took the time to read the reviews you can see why people aren't in love with this film"
They are totally blind due to their ego and all to take their time to check why and understand to others. I can say it's a waste of time to try to argue with them, eh. Gosh how I hate people who put politic shit in topics like these ones, I hate politic in general, actually.
Anyway, sorry for answer late, sometimes I take my time to reply asks :P I like dedicating my full time and interest in answering.

About the Mario Bros Movie (particularly the ending):
(this is all my opinion, feel free to disagree and share your own thoughts, id love to discuss them)
1. Is anyone else upset that the final battle took place in the Real World?
Like... Idk, it just reminded me of the ending of SVTFOE in the worst ways, which, if you know you know.
I guess I just overall hate the concept of merging the Real World with a fantastical world of any kind. Mostly because I can't believe that if the Real World got a hold of a Fantastic World, it would leave it be. That Fantastic World would be abused sooooo much.
I shudder just trying to imagine what sort of crap our World would do if we ever got access to the Mushroom Power-Ups.
But also because it doesn't feel necessary? There was nothing for the brothers in the Real World, the beginning of the movie was supposed to show the viewer that. So much so, that in the end, after the battle, they return to the Game World and start living in the Mushroom Kingdom.
The only thing that did tether them to the Real World was their family.
The only reason I can think of why they chose to make the climax in Brooklyn is that B plot Mario had with his father, wanting to prove to him - and by extension, everyone else that looked down on him - that he could be great and achieve something.
And I found that particular plot point sooo unoriginal and unnecessary.
(How many times will movies have to do the "I wanna prove I can be great, I wanna do my father proud!" plot shtick until they get tired??)
But yeah, in conclusion, having the climax in Brooklyn was dumb and mostly unnecessary, except for the family plot line.
Which brings me to my 2nd question:
2. Am I the only one who thinks the movie would've been better if the brothers were orphans? Or simply, by themselves?
I feel kinda mean writing this....
But like, the family is just needless???
I honestly believe being orphans could have made their characters more interesting. (this sounds so insensitive, I'm sorry....)
It would give Luigi and Mario's powerful bond a deeper connotation, for one. It would make even more sense for Mario to be so protective of Luigi and for Luigi to be so dependent on Mario if they only had each other - they are the only ones left for the other.
(Not to say that siblings that live in a big, happy family can't have powerful bonds. That's not the case. I'm just trying to argue what I think would've been more impactful from a narrative standpoint.)
Also, it would still be able to fit with Mario's wishes of being something great.
As I said before, the only reason as to why the final showdown was in the Real World was so Mario could have closure with his family and past life - so he could have that moment of greatness for everyone (especially his dad) to see.
But for me, returning to the Real World was so unsatisfying (see 1.), that the family plot line becomes useless.
I feel like I would've liked the movie a lot more if
A) the brothers didn't have more family, growing up alone together, resulting in them having kind of a tough life when the movie starts
B) Bullet Bill destroyed the pipe instead of travelling through it, severing the connection between the worlds,
C) because the pipe that lead to the Real World had been destroyed, the final showdown happened in the Mushroom Kingdom (or the nearby forest)
D) in the aftermath of the battle, the brothers would confirm that indeed the pipe wasn't working anymore, but they wouldn't be that broken up about it, because even though they did grow up there, the Real World hadn't been very kind to them in the past, and the only thing they ever needed was each other.
And then yeah, final scene with Mario and Luigi waking up and going to work in the Mushroom Kingdom
And uh, yeah... Ta-daaaaaaaa!
That's my personal take about this movie :p
Please please pleaaaaaase if you don't agree with what I've written above feel free to counter with your own thoughts, id love to discuss (as long as it's all in good fun)

Movie rant
let me start off by saying, i am in no way trying to insult someone's taste in movies, nor am i trying to attack anyone Secondly, i am not someone who works in movies i am just someone who loves to create and write and doesn't really get the chance to really express my feelings about social media Thirdly: if you are just going to respond by attacking me or by trying to start arguments, i do not care, this isn't a super serious thing i am just ranting just scroll away if you want to argue Now onto the rant? essay? idk anymore I think in trying to push for better quality movies we've started to ignore what made movies fun for us. I think that we've become so entitled for movies to be better than before, to be even bigger, to be even more profound and while i do agree we need better movies, we can't get those from just forcing people to make better movies, improvement comes with time and our consumerist way of looking at movies is worsening the problems within movies We want movies with better jokes yet we also want movies to be topical, we want movies to have serious discussions yet we don't really want them to inherently endorse one side or the other, we want movies to have better writing yet we as a society don't let companies, and the people who create movies take risks. A lot of people have also become elitists, they believe movies that are inherently "better" quality are the only movies that should be in people's most favorites for that year and discount when someone says something otherwise, and i am not just making a jump, that has happened to me from people who were "respected" in their community. I had talked about what my favorite movies were for the first half of 2023 and i had mentioned that the Super Mario movie was in that list, and someone had literally said "oh well you'll change your mind once you see ATSV and the Last Wish so this isn't really accurate" Discounting what i said because i haven't seen certain movies so what i must be saying is inaccurate, and here's the thing, i hate the shrek franchise, i don't like it so while the puss in boots movie might be better i am not going to force myself to watch something in a franchise i don't like. The way we consume media right now is one where we don't let people have differing opinions even if we don't try to be that way, if someone enjoyed a game or a show that wasn't a generally accepted "good" game or show they don't get much of a say outside of the small audience who also liked it, we hold certain media on pedastels and yet when someone tries to critique them, specifically out of good faith, we dig in our heels. If someone liked a certain movie because they didn't have to think that hard about it we discount it because did they truly enjoy it? Yet that mentality discounts people that might not have good social cues, or a good focus, maybe not even a good understanding of things in general and we discount those opinions because to truly enjoy something we HAVE to understand the message, or understand the complexities of the movie. I for one hate that idea, i hate the fact that we have created a community that says we accept all kinds of people that enjoy movies and yet we discount people for enjoying movies in a differing way, i hate that we discount some movies because they don't make the person think, or that it doesn't have a profound message or critique, We've become the group who we grew up hating, we've become those people that looked at us and told us we wouldn't be able to enjoy something because we were too young, or not the gender it was designed for, or it was too complicated for us. Sometimes all we need is a movie that we enjoy just because it was fun, sometimes we need a movie that makes us think, but there is room enough for both of them, and for every type of movie inbetween, yes lazy cash grabs exist but if someone found enjoyment out of a movie we couldn't isn't that a good thing? if someone can find an actual positive in something we couldn't shouldn't that be good?
let people enjoy movies the way they enjoy them

strawberry lemonade • chapter two
Tumblr media
warnings: like one curse word? uh this is long so 😐
summary: after breaking up with your boyfriend of three years, you move out of your apartment as your best friend’s high school friend comes back to Japan for a “break”.
wc: 2k
|| masterlist || previous || next ||
Tumblr media
For two weeks, you learned that Tooru Oikawa was very very loud. Both of you were currently staying at Iwaizumi’s while the lease was being finalized. Thankfully, you and Oikawa both made a decent amount of money, so you both could afford a bit more expensive apartment. You remembered the qualifications that Oikawa had listed off the day after you decided to move in together.
Three days earlier
“But y/n! I’m going to be home a lot, so wouldn’t it be better to have a larger living space?” Oikawa looked up at you with a teasing look in his eyes.
“Why would we need a large, expensive may I add, apartment? I’ll be home a lot too, but It’s not like we’ll be throwing parties or cooking-”
“Oh I plan on cooking,” Oikawa exclaimed while grabbing your hands
“You know how to cook?”
“You don't?”
Tumblr media
Fast forward a couple of days, and here you were, moving into a large, expensive apartment. Trying to drown out Oikawa and Mattsun’s loud laughter, you moved into the kitchen to go over things.
Living with someone other than a significant other was hard work, no wonder why your parents didn’t want you to get a roommate off of campus in university. Sighing, you closed your laptop and got up to make some tea.
Green tea was the one thing drink that didn’t remind you of someone. Hajime was coffee, strong and dependable. Kaori reminded you of iced coffee, like Hajime but she was sweet and cool. And of course, peach tea reminded you of him. He was calm, refreshing, and sweet.
Your thoughts were shattered when a voice pierced through your consciousness. Oikawa.
“You seem to be interested in that teabag, something wrong?” He moved to your left side and bent down to make eye contact. Flustered, you snapped out of your depressing trance.
“Yeah! I'm just thinking about people and drinks,” you laughed the concern off and tried to reassure him.
“Drinks? Do you want me to invite people here?” Oikawa seemed confused. Why would you suddenly want to drink?
You waved your hands frantically, trying to stop Oikawa from doing anything.
“No! No, I was thinking about how drinks sometimes remind me of people,” you laughed as Oikawa cocked his head to the right, looking like a lost puppy.
“Oh, I see! So then, what do I remind you of?” the confused face on Oikawa’s face melted into one of cockiness and teasing. Nonetheless, you answered his question.
“Hm, strawberry lemonade.”
Tumblr media
Iwaizumi arrived back home a few hours after the teabag incident and walked into a very intense Mario Kart tournament.
“Come on y/n~ let me win once, please.” Matsukawa groaned out as you beat him for the fifth time that night. Oikawa simply chuckled before getting up and greeting Iwaizumi.
“Iwa! When did you get here?”
“He obviously just did, idiot,” You rolled off of the couch before standing up to meet the two in the kitchen. Iwaizumi motioned his head towards your open laptop that had the details of the apartment displayed. As if he was stressed, he just sat down and sighed.
He couldn’t shake that feeling. Why did Oikawa come back? He was doing perfectly fine in Argentina, he had won against his team during the Olympics even. So why the hell was he here? How did you end up moving in with him? He tried summing it up as the shock of the breakup clouding your decisions, but as he stared at you and Oikawa picking out a rug, he felt as though that wasn’t it.
You were different.
~
Hajime trailed behind you and Oikawa as you gleefully ran into the elevator, excited about finally moving in. It took a few days to move in, but with all of your and Oikawa’s friends helping, things went smoothly.
“Oh just wait Iwa! We set up a little corner for you to stand in when we have friends over!” Oikawa teased Iwaizumi while you sent a short reply to Kaori. She and her girlfriend got into a little argument, so you were offering a piece of advice, although you felt as though you weren’t in the position to give advice anymore.
“Hey.” Iwaizumi poked your shoulder and gave you a look that was full of concern. He looked worried about something.
“What’s up?” You asked the taller male, who was looking down at your phone.
“Are you texting S-” Your eyes widened as the name of your ex-boyfriend threatened to slip past his lips.
“No! It was just...Kaori. I was offering advice,” you gave Iwaizumi an awkward smile as he apologized under his breath. Meanwhile, Oikawa was staring at you with curiosity. As he was opening his mouth to speak, he was cut off by the sound of the elevator dinging.
“Hajime! Let’s go!” you laughed while pulling the dark-haired man out of the elevator and towards your new home.
The apartment was large, to say the least, but it was perfect for you and Oikawa’s antics. The living room was spacious, and per request, there was a large kitchen for Oikawa to cook whatever he wanted. The two of you had your own rooms, of course. The third room was a study for you to work in, and for Oikawa to do whatever Oikawa wanted to do. Downstairs, there was a gym (which Oikawa enjoyed, although he would train elsewhere), as well as a small bakery across the street. Things were perfect.
Iwaizumi left after thirty minutes, claiming “I can’t stand to be around the both of you”, which led to Oikawa calling a near-by pizza place.
“I thought you liked to cook?” you teased the tall male, but he simply laughed.
“My dearest y/n, how do you expect me to cook with only carrots and cream cheese?” He laughed, motioning towards the fridge that had yet to be filled. Rolling your eyes, you lay down on the soft couch and breathed out. Oikawa moved your legs so that they rested on his lap before closing his eyes. Looking at your conflicted face, Oikawa tapped your legs, trying to draw your attention.”
“You seem to be lost in thought a lot, does this happen frequently?” you giggled quietly at his joke but sat up.
“No, I’m just..thinking that things are too easy right now. It seems like everything a week ago was so hard, and that my life was ending,” you giggled as Oikawa widened his eyes in concern.
“So why did you even move out of your previous apartment anyways? Did something happen with your landlord or something?” Oikawa questioned as he moved to grab something to drink. You sighed and shook your head.
“No, my boyfriend broke up with me,” you laughed as you watched Oikawa choke on his water. He set down the glass and rushed over to you, scanning your face for any signs of hurt. In the years that he had lived in Argentina, he had his fair share of relationships, and he knew that people were typically sensitive. But somehow, there was nothing there but worry.
“Well! I'm sure that you don't need him anyway, he was probably a shitty guy anyways so-”
“Actually, he was pretty amazing. There wasn’t anything to hate,” Oikawa closed his mouth in thought and was about to reply with a snarky comment, but the door rang. As Oikawa ran off to greet the delivery man, you just stared at the back of his head.
Was this the right choice?
Tumblr media
Across town, a man dragged his things into the house. He had been gone for the last three weeks, and all he wanted was to lay down with his girlfr-.
Wait.
The light-haired man sat down on the couch and remembered the words that were exchanged before he left.
| Three weeks prior |
“....”
“y/n, I just don’t know what you want me to say-”
“Just go, okay?”
| Present time |
The man dug through his coat pockets before looking at his lock screen, not wanting to change it. He swiped up and looked for the one person that would always answer; you.
Calling your number, he stared at the one thing that was left out on the counter.
Peach tea.
~
You and Oikawa were arguing over what to watch as a “celebratory moving day movie”, as Oikawa called it.
“y/n, I have watched this movie every time that I’ve moved, trust me,” Oikawa whined as you held the remote out of his reach, making sure he wouldn’t put it on.
“Why not Howl’s Moving Castle? When moving in with a new person, you need a new movie to watch!” you pouted. Oikawa huffed and crossed his arms.
“I-I’ve never seen it,” he admitted under his breath. You widened your eyes and jumped on top of him.
“What do you mean you’ve never watched it?! Are you jo-” you were suddenly cut off by your phone ringing.
Although you changed his contact name and photo, the ringtone was personalized. Your blood ran cold as you picked up the phone. You shouldn’t answer, but you owed him after leaving abruptly. Covering Oikawa’s mouth, you picked up the phone.
“Hi,” you answered, punching yourself mentally for being so awkward. Oikawa mocked you as you sent him a glare.
“Oh god y/n, where are you? Are you staying at Kaori’s? I’m so sorry, I’m on my way-” you cut him off before he could go bang on your best friend’s door.
“Koushi, I'm not-”
“Koushi?! As in Sugawara Koushi?” Oikawa exclaimed with excitement. Your eyes widened as you felt your face go red. On the other end of the line, Sugawara stopped pacing around the living room and fell into a state of confusion as a familiar voice rang out from the other end.
“Oikawa? You’re back?” You could feel yourself sinking into a state of despair as Oikawa laughed and took the phone from you.
“Mr. Refreshing! Yeah, I'm back here while I’m on...break. How have you been? I haven’t seen you since-”
“I remember,” you could hear Sugawara’s laugh flow from the phone, and it made your heart hurt. You motioned for Oikawa to hurry up and give you the phone back, but he simply brushed you off and gave you the remote.
“I’ve been uh, not well actually. Which is why I was calling y/n,” Sugawara sighed. Oikawa glanced over at you and waggled his eyebrows. You rolled your eyes, humored by the man’s idiocy.
“Ah, I see! Anyways, I’ll let you get back to your call. I’ll have y/n give me your number later so we can catch up!”
“I’m not sure-” Oikawa handed you the phone, not understanding the context behind the phone call. You glared at him as he cheerfully watched the beginning of the film.
“I’m sorry about that, he’s uhm, intrusive,” you apologized to Sugawara, but he just brushed it off.
“It’s fine, I knew him from high school. It doesn’t seem like now is a good time to talk though, can we discuss things later? I’ll buy you coffee or dinner, whatever you want okay?”
“Yeah that sounds fine, I’ll talk to-”
“Are you okay y/n?” he asked hesitantly, knowing damn well that he had hurt you.
“I will be,” you ended the call, and immediately pinched Oikawa. He jumped and sent you a glare.
“Hey what was that for? I didn’t do anything!” you just rolled your eyes.
“I hardly think taking my phone to talk to my ex-boyfriend counts as “nothing”, Oikawa,” you huffed. His eyes widened before standing before you in disbelief.
“Mr. Refreshing is your ex?!”
Tumblr media
facts:
- Sugawara is y/n’s ex ;)
- The former couple’s breakup was clean, but Sugawara didn’t mean to actually break up with y/n
- Oikawa is an amazing cook, im telling you.

Blind Date
“This is getting ridiculous.”Louise rolled her eyes and crossed her arms at the restaurant table. Across fromher PJ shook his head and groaned. Louise couldn’t help the smile and lightlaugh that escaped her though. They’d just finished having lunch with Dan andPhil. It had always been obvious to everyone that the two were inseparable, connected at the hip, and head over heels for one another. That is, everyoneknew it except for the two boys themselves.
Both Dan and Phil had come to PJand Louise separately to confess their attraction for their flat mate. And bothhad seemed utterly at loss at what to do about the feelings they possessed fortheir friend. It seemed obvious to Dan and Phil’s friends what they should do.TELL EACH OTHER! But Phil had explained to PJ that he didn’t think Dan wouldfeel the same way about him and he didn’t want to ruin what they did have. Danhad told Louise that him and Phil as a partnership in YouTube had too much tolose. He thought that maybe their fans enjoyed fantasizing about the idea of them together but that if theyactually were together, they’d get bored and uninterested.
Either way, both of their reasonswere ridiculous. This had been going on for a couple of years. Now though, thechemistry between them had reached a supreme high. They couldn’t hide it ifthey tried. A few times Louise had almost called them out on it right then andthere. But her and PJ had agreed to stay out of it. It wasn’t any of their business.Even if it was insane to watch.
Like tonight at dinner. The fourof them had gotten together because Dan and Phil had recently returned from atrip and they wanted to hear all about it. On the way back from the trip Philhad spent a few days with his parents in Florida while Dan returned home.Alone. The boy couldn’t keep his freaking eyes of his flat mate.
Louise knew Dan well by now. She knewthat he didn’t handle being alone all that well. Even if he was in his room forhours on end, he needed to know that someone else was in the house. And thatsomeone was always Phil.
The dinner that night had beenthe first time they’d really seen each other in four days and it was ridiculouslyobvious how badly Dan just wanted to go back to the house and catch up withPhil. Probably play video games and watch anime till four A.M. PJ and Louisehad exchanged glances, rolling their eyes and grinning at the situation.
Phil had managed to keep himselftogether a bit more. Phil had come to terms with his feelings for Dan longafter Dan himself had. He was also a few years older and his practiced self-controlwas much more evident.
“That’s it.” PJ slapped the tableand stood abruptly. “We’re doing something about this.”
“Peej…we’ve talked about this. It’snot our place.” Louise sighed, knowing how frustrated PJ was.
“I don’t care! It’s time.”
“And what do plan on doing?”Retorted Louise.
“It’s not just me. You’rehelping.”
Louise called Dan the nextafternoon. “Hey lazy, what are you up to?”
“Uh…” Dan started.
“And don’t tell me it’s somethingimportant because I know better.”
Dan snorted on the other end. “Finethen. I’m unpacking.”
“Still don’t believe it.” Danwould never unpack his bag the very next day. It was going to sit there for thenext three weeks.
“Okay. I’m laying on my bed thinkingof unpacking.”
“You’re still in bed?!” Louiseexclaimed.
“Hey! Did you call to judge theway I live my life or was there something important?”
“I set you up on a date.” Louise saidsimply. It was silent on the other end of the line for a while. She smiled toherself, knowing the panic that must be going through Dan’s mind right now.
“You what?” He said monotone.
“A date. There’s someone I knowthat’s…interested in you.”
“You’re lying.” Dan statedblankly.
“No! I’m serious! They’ve likedyou for a while but seeing as you are Dan Howell, they’ve been a little uncertain.”
“So it’s a friend of yours that’sa fan? No thanks. Absolutely not.” Dan said.
“No! Mr. Cocky. They could careless about your job title and bank account. It’s more you that’s stopped them from asking. And we’re not arguing aboutthis. You’re going.”
“Louise…” Dan whined, his voice takingon a more uneasy tone. “You know how I feel about…all that.”
“All what?” Louise said, feigningignorance.
“Don’t make me say it, come on.”Dan griped.
“I just don’t understand what you’retalking about.” Louise kept up the act.
“Phil! Louise! You know how Ifeel about Phil. I’m not interested in this date. I’m sorry.” Dan sighedthrough the phone.
“Interesting. Usually if you’reinterested in someone you tell them how you feel. I mean, eventually. Certainlyif the feelings continue after nearly six years.”
“Shut up. You know why.”
“Look, Dan. Maybe after going onthis date things will make more sense. Maybe you’re feelings for Phil willclear up, or maybe it will give you the guts to say something to him.”
It was quiet for a long timeagain but Louise let Dan think. She knew not to try and push him. That neverended well when it came to Dan. She remained patient.
“Fine.”
Louise almost screamed with joy. “Thankyou! Thank you! Tonight, at seven, at the place by my house. Dress nicely! I’llpick you up.”
“Wait, tonight? Loui-!!!”
Louse hung up before he couldobject and quickly texted PJ. The fish ishooked.
Now it was PJ’s turn to callPhil.
“Hey Phil, how’s it going?”
“Hey Peej! Not bad. Sorry Dan andI didn’t stay longer last night. I think he was a little tired and anxious toget back.”
PJ almost burst out laughingright there. Phil was so oblivious. He loved his friend but sometimes PJ justwanted to shake him.  “Yeah, no, Iunderstand. Louise did to. What are you up to tonight?”
“Nothing much. We were going toplay Mario Kart but Dan forgot he had plans tonight so I was just going toorder a pizza and watch a scary movie.”
“Perfect. Would you mind going ona date with me tonight?”
“Uh…Peej…I mean, we’re friendsbut I never-”
“No!” PJ pulled at his hair. “I meant,I’m going on a date and I kind ofwant somebody else with me you know? Be my wing man maybe?”
“Oh, uh, wow, thanks for thinkingof me. Sure, I can do that.”
“Great! Thank you! You’re thebest. Just wear something nice and I’ll pick you up at six, okay?”
“Oh my god I can’t believe itactually worked. We actually got those two to agree to leave the house.” Louisegiggled uncontrollably on the phone with her partner in crime.
“To be honest, if you can get oneof them out of the house it’s not too difficult to convince the other.” PJreasoned.
“True.”
“Everything is set up?” PJ asked.
“Yup.”
“Okay then, see you at the restaurant.”
“Phil? I’m leaving!” Dan yelledback into the apartment at his flat mate.
“Okay! See you later!” Phil calledback.
Dan grumbled to himself as hestrode down the hall toward where Louise was waiting outside. He couldn’tbelieve he’d allowed himself to be coerced into leaving his precious cage. On adate nonetheless. What was he doing? If Phil ever found out he’d gone on a date, Dan would have even less of achance at telling him how he felt. Not that he’d ever have the guts anyway.
The feelings he’d had for hisflat mate had started six years ago. Maybe even before that, but that’s when he’dcome to realize them himself. And every year since his affection for the manhad only deepened. And he wasn’t naïve enough to convince himself that it wasthe affection you have toward just a friend. No, Dan wanted more. But, alas, he’dprobably be buried with that secret on his tongue. He wasn’t one for takingchances. And telling Phil how he really felt was that and more. There were somany bad things that could come of confessing to something as serious as that, both in his personal life as well as his YouTube career.
“Dan!”
Dan jumped at the sound of Louise’shigh pitched voice. She was far too excited for this.
“Mmm.” He groaned as she huggedhim tightly.
“You look lovely! That suit isperfect!” She held him at arm’s length away and admired him. “Let’s go. I’m soexcited.”
Phil left the house shortly afterhid flat mate. He figured he’d be home before Dan so he hadn’t told him that hewas going out this evening too. Though he knew Dan would worry if he came homeand Phil wasn’t there.
When they’d first moved intotogether Phil had been surprised at Dan’s neediness. He wasn’t controlling or possessive. He just got worried easily when Phil wasn’t there. Though to be fair, Phil hadgotten himself lost multiple times and needed to have his friend come find him.Dan had never minded. Now though, Phil had adjusted to Dan’s needs. He was farless social than Phil was and Phil had become accustomed to even that. In fact, his favorite days were the ones where they didn’t leave the house for anything. When he’d wake up, make breakfast and coffee and they’d sit down and watch anentire anime season or movie trilogy. Sometimes he’d even convinced his friendto watch a scary movie and that was the best because Dan became extravulnerable and needy; asking Phil to turn off the lights before they went tobed or grabbing his arm and squeezing it when the anticipation became too much.
Phil was okay with the way theirrelationship was, but he’d be lying if he said he didn’t wish there wassomething more between them. Phil had always loved the idea of doting oversomeone, making them feel special and safe. When Dan had come into his lifemuch of that had been satisfied. But his flat mate seemed completelyuninterested in any romantic life at all, with anyone. So, in fear of losingeverything, Phil had shoved his feelings down and moved on, choosing to admirehis friend from afar.
PJ picked him up a few minuteslater. Phil furrowed his brows when he saw his friend. “Oh,” he exclaimed. “Iguess I over dressed.”
“Nah, nah. It’s perfect trust me.”
“Then why are you in-”
“It’s fine. Come on, lets hurry.”PJ grabbed his arm and tugged him toward a taxi.
Dan sat at a four person tablealone. He leaned against the back of the chair and huffed as he looked aroundthe restaurant. He was grateful for the few sets of people scattered around theplace. This was an awkward enough situation let alone had he been watched by apacked full restaurant.
“Come on Louise, hurry up.” Hegrumbled. She’d gone to the bathroom forever ago. He did not want to be herealone when his date arrived. He took a careful sip of the glass of wine beforehim, instantly puckering at the bitterness. “Disgusting.”  Why had he ordered wine? He didn’t even likewine.
The entry doors to the restaurantopened and Dan saw PJ from his peripheral.
“What the? Peej, what are youdoing here?” Dan called to his friend, furrowing his brows. PJ shook his head, smiling and waving before backing back outside. Dan was just about to get tohis feet when the door opened again. Only this time…
“Phil?” Dan breathed out at thesite of his flat mate dressed in a nice black suit, almost identical to the onehe was wearing. He stood slowly as his friend approached. Phil wrung his handstogether and looked from side to side uneasily. “Phil,” Dan smiled. “What areyou doing here? Did Louise set you up on a date too?”
“H-hi. A date? Uh, no. Is thatwhy you’re here?” Phi’s eyes widened in surprise.
Dan felt himself bush in embarrassment. He scratched the back of his neck. “Yeah…”
Phil laughed lightly, cocking hishead. “With who?”
Louise appeared behind Dan,resting a hand on Dan’s shoulder and patting it. “You. Phil, you’re Dan’ssurprise date. I think you two have a lot to discus, so I’m going to leave.Have fun!” With that Louise swiftly walked past them and out the front doors.
Dan and Phil stood there, jawsdropped, eyes wide for several moments after Louise had disappeared. Slowly,Phil turned toward his friend.
“Well…” He said hesitantly.
“Yeah, well, sit. I guess.” Dancoughed and dropped ungracefully into his chair.
Both sat, they still didn’t lookat the other. They’re eyes focused one everything except the person on theother side of the table.
“We have to say somethingeventually.” Phil said quietly.
“What exactly is happening here?”Dan asked, using frustration as a cover up to face his friend.
“It would be easier if we couldask PJ and Louise but…I think I can guess. I think it has to do with me.” Philswallowed, anxiety prickling at his palms.
“You?” Dan raised an eyebrow buthis shoulders relaxed a little.
“I think this is there way oftrying to make me tell you something.” Phil finally forced his eyes upward tomeet Dan’s. He could see right through his friend who was trying to appearangry and confused. But his soft eyes told him he was…afraid? “I might haveconfessed something to PJ a little while ago…”
“Okay…” Dan tensed again. Why wasPhil acting weird? Why did he suddenly look so sad?
“I’m afraid though Dan. But I supposeour friends out there won’t let me leave until I confess to you too.”
“You’re freaking me out. Just sayit. Please.” Dan demanded.
Phil furrowed his brows at hisfriend. “I hate when you’re like that.”
“Like what?” Dan said bitterly.
“Defensive. How am I supposed totell you something with that angry look on your face?” Phil was suddenly verydetermined to not tell Dan anything. He heard his friend take a deep breath andflickered his gaze back over.
“You’re right. I’m sorry. I guessI’m just scared too. I have something I need to tell you too.”
Phil’s eyes widened. “Really?Okay then.”
“No, you first. I’m listening.”Dan rested his elbows on the table and looked Phil dead in the eyes.
“O-okay.” He took a deep breath, preparing himself for the words that were about to leave his mouth. His tonguewas dry and heavy and he was surprised when the words came out coherent at all.“I really like you Dan. I’ve liked you for a long time.”
Dan remained still and quiet forseveral moments. He wanted to be sure Phil was done speaking. It seemed he wasby the way he hung his head and played with the napkin on the table.
“Like me as in…I’m your bestfriend?” Dan asked carefully.
“No. I mean, yes. But no. You aremy best friend but I’ve liked as you as more than that for a long time.”
“How long?” Dan pushed. His heartbeating nervously but now for completely different reasons.
Phil laughed lightly. “I don’tknow exactly. A few years…maybe more.” Dan smiled, ducking his head indisbelief. Phil looked up from the table “What? It’s not funny Dan.”
“I know it’s not funny. That’swhy I’m laughing. Phil, I confessed to Louise about six years ago that I likedyou as way more than a friend.”
Phil perked up at that, sittingstraighter and stopping his nervous finger movements. “Are you serious?”
Dan nodded fervently “Yup.”
“Why didn’t you say anything?!”Phil exclaimed, smiling broadly.
“I thought that maybe it would affectout working relationship. I just wasn’t sure how everyone would take it.”
“Our working relationship. You’re insane. That’s the last thing it wouldaffect.”
“Well hey, I’m not the only oneto blame here. Why didn’t you say anything all this time?” Dan asked.
Phil’s cheeks turned a lightshade of pink. “I didn’t know if you would ever like me like that…I know thatyou sometimes make comments about other guys being cute but I wasn’t sure. AndI doubted it would be me. I didn’t want to ruin our friendship.”
“Sounds like we’ve spent a longtime worrying about nothing.” Dan grinned and Phil smiled back at him.
“It seems so. So what now?”
Dan breathed out. “What now? Goodquestion. I guess we have a lot to talk about.”
Phil nodded. They were quiet fora moment, letting all this new information sink in. Phil looked down at table, raising an eyebrow when he saw the glass of wine Dan was spinning aroundbetween his fingers. “Why on earth did you get a glass of wine?”
Dan looked down at the glass andsnorted. “Because I thought I was going on a date and I wanted to be classy.”
“But you hate wine.” Phil pointedout.
“I know! I was trying to impressyou! Well not you but you know what Imean.”
“It didn’t work.” Phil laughed. “Also, you didn’t buy me some wine.”
“I didn’t know what the other personwould like!” Dan said, defending himself.
“Well, good thing you only haveto know what I like.”
Dan grinned, waving his hand inthe air to call the waitress over. “Indeed, I do.”
