Thank you tumblr for absolutely destroying image quality. Freaking wtf?
Some more Dark Excalibur AU
The Knighting of Steve Palchuk
We all agree that Steve needed a better arc than what RotT gave him. He deserved a chance to be a hero, a path that he started in Wizards before it fizzled out into being the comedic relief. Wizards set everyone up as the better generational mirrors to Camelot. Jim to Arthur, Claire to Morgana, Douxie to Merlin, Toby probably to Galahad, and Steve very obviously to Lancelot. I've said at the start that no one comes out of this AU unscathed, so while Steve gets the heroic redemption, it comes at a cost, one that pulls on that parallel.
RotT in the Dk-E still happens, I'm not letting everyone get their happily ever after at the end of Wizards. But I'll be damned if I end it with Toby and so many others dead, and Jim pushed into a timeline reset. You can thank Steve for that. It's because of Steve that Toby lives. Steve goes with Toby in the Taco truck, and it is Steve that yanks Toby out of the way of the collapsing debris. But Steve becomes pinned himself, resulting in the loss of his arm. An act of selflessness and bravery, valor and sacrifice, that earns him the title of First Knight of the Roundtable of New Camelot. An equal advisor, responsible for not only the protection of Camelot, and those Jim has claimed as his (which is everyone, human, troll, changeling, down to the last gnome), but also finding and training new knights, those who value all life and are willing to fight to protect it, and want to see the worlds of man and magic together in harmony instead of hate and fear.
And so we come to the Knighting of Steve Palchuk. This isn't just pomp and meaningless ceremony, this has true weight and meaning to both Jim and Steve. Jim pulls on Excalibur's magic, his voice resonating with ethereal power, creating a bond of trust and loyalty that goes both ways, only formed if given willingly. Knight to his King, King to Knight, both to the protection of all worlds and their peoples. Jim's eyes light up in tandem with the blade as the power of Excalibur and Nimue courses through him, flames licking along the blade's edge and into Steve. Steve's armor reflecting this bond as the magic burns through him.
And like Lancelot, Steve will get a fully functional prosthetic arm. There will be hardship, adapting to this new reality. But Steve has become a hero. A man of courage... far from his highscool self. A survivor, who will fight with everything he has.
Rise now, Sir Steve, First Knight of the Roundtable and New Camelot.

Notes: some of the descriptive wording around the ceremony itself came from a discussion about Jim using Excalibur for the knighting, and are used with permission of Sakon76, who is a much better writer than I.
Expect more if Steve's story at a later time.

But he did it for me
Krel didn't want to merge with Gaylen's core, so Douxie found another way to stop Bellroc and Skrael.
Krel regrets not having merged with Gaylen's core sooner.
Hi, everyone! I wrote this for day 3 of @krexiweek 2023: Enemies to Lovers/Lovers to Enemies. It takes place after Wizards, and is not RotT compliant.
The design and concept for devil!Douxie came from the lovely tenyai, but I went with an entirely different ship.
CW: references to self-harm
AO3
FFN
"So you merged with the core anyways," said the thing possessing Douxie. He sat on a throne, stone with a siglil carved into the back and a starburst behind him. His beautiful golden eyes had been replaced by a brighter yellow, with red sclera and slitted pupils. Krel didn't want to look at them. He forced himself to. "You should have convinced him earlier that you were determined, just scared. Then your boyfriend wouldn't have reached out to me."
"It's okay, Krel," Douxie said, laying a hand on Krel's shoulder. "You don't have to do this."
Krel tried not to lean into the touch "It's my destiny; it's written in my core."
"So? It was also written into your core that you were supposed to be king alongside Aja. Destiny can go fuck itself."
"That's different. Aja could rule alone. She's been very successful at it. That was a prophecy written by my parents." Krel swallowed down tears. "Being Gaylen's heir? No one could do anything about it. There isn't another way. Not this time. We need a god to kill a demigod, and I'm the only one who can merge with Gaylen's core without going mad."
"We don't know of another way," Douxie corrected. He turned Krel toward him, and Krel let himself become lost in those beautiful golden eyes. "We can find another way. Don't worry your beautiful mind over this; I will find another way."
"And where will you find another god? I don't think we're getting out of this." Krel leaned to kiss Douxie. He meant it as a goodbye. Instead, Douxie used the motion to pull Krel away from the Gaylen's core, and Krel went willingly.
"Give him back," Krel said, all four hands balling into fists.
The devil put a finger to Douxie's lips. "And what would you give me? It's not like I can take you over, given the double core you have. Besides, I already fulfilled my half of the deal. Bellroc and Skrael? Dead."
Gently, Douxie disentangled himself from his boyfriend's arms. Even in sleep, Krel didn't look peaceful. Douxie didn't know how to walk into another's dreams, but he didn't need to in order to know that Krel was still thinking about Gaylen's core. Krel didn't deserve all that fear and anguish. He deserved everything Douxie could give him. Douxie couldn't give Krel enough, but Douxie could give Krel this. Douxie had been living on borrowed time, anyways, ever since he fell from the sky.
Gaylen's core wasn't the only thing out there that could kill Bellroc and Skrael. Douxie hadn't even known about the connection until Nari had told him. They had destroyed the physical form of a devil in the decades before Arthur had began his purge of wizards. It had taken all three of them, and it had exhausted them for a year after. The devil had come back several times, possessing different wizards across the centuries.
Silently, Douxie kissed his boyfriend's forehead. He kissed Krel goodbye, and then he left Camelot and made his way to a place in the forest, a few miles away from Arcadia Oaks. Douxie made a circle in salt before he burned the sigils into the ground. Then, he dripped three drops of his own blood into the circle, immediately withdrawing his hand.
"Casperan," the devil said, a spectre of red and yellow. "Now what do I owe the pleasure?"
"You wanted to possess me a century ago."
"Why, are you offering yourself up now? What happened to Archie and Zoe? I remember them not wanting me to have you."
A century ago, Douxie, Zoe, and Archie had met a wizard who was possessed by this very devil. He had willingly left the wizard he was possessing and had gone to Douxie's. At the time, Douxie had never wanted to be possessed ever again. It wasn't like it had been for Claire or Jim; his soul had been trapped with the devil instead of in another world.
"Yes, they fought you out of me, and it was easy for them because I was fighting you to. I'm willing to make a deal this time."
"And what are the terms of your deal?"
"You kill Bellroc, Keeper of the Flame, and Skrael of the North Wind. And you don't hurt my friends afterwards."
"Counterpoint: I don't hurt them if they don't hurt me. Don't tell me you want to leave your body utterly defenseless?"
Douxie frowned. It wasn't like he could get everything he wanted. "Hurting you has to mean direct, physical harm. Insulting you doesn't count."
"Of course not! I'll only commit tit for tat."
"And you can kill Bellroc and Skrael?"
"Depends. Will Nari be with them?"
"Nari is one of my friends."
"Ah, what a change of heart! Well, with your power and mine, I can certainly rid the world of those two."
"Do we have a deal, Mordred?" Mordred merely stuck his hand out to the edge of the circle, smiling.
Douxie took a breath and passed his hand through the barrier of the salt circle, grabbing onto Mordred's hand. As they shook hands, Douxie broke the salt circle with his foot.
And then he screamed. Douxie's screaming eventually died down into Mordred's laughter.
"Um, a new body? I can give you one!" Krel offered. "No other soul to be stuck with, even."
"What, one of your Blanks? Of course not! Not after I finally have such a powerful wizard under my control. You'd have to find me another powerful wizard, willing to take me on, and I'd need to find them better than Casperan. Oh, and the two wizards waiting beyond the door to beat me out of Douxie aren't powerful enough to take me on. In both senses of the word."
Krel woke up alone. He woke up to Zoe and Archie having a furious argument.
Douxie was gone.
His soul remained.
Douxie was gone.
Bellroc and Skrael were no longer a problem, but Douxie hadn't thought too far ahead.
Douxie was gone.
Krel could get him back.
Douxie was gone without a note.
Krel left a note for Aja. He lined up Gaylen's core normal to his own. He then drove it through his chest.
Douxie was gone, and Krel hadn't been able to say goodbye. Hopefully he wouldn't need to.
"I didn't want to do this," Krel said as he drew his serrator.
Mordred looked from Krel's eyes to the blade. "And you don't have to! I could give you a place at my side. You're powerful. We could be wonderful together."
No. Krel and Douxie were wonderful together, not this facsimile. "With Gaylen's power and theirs, we will drive you out."
"Even if it means hurting your precious Casperan?" Mordred said before standing up from the throne. "Well, I believe this counts as an intent to attack. I'll be perfectly within my rights to defend myself. I've never fought an Akiridion god before. I'm sure it'll be fun. Maybe if you fight well enough and beg for mercy, I'll still let you become my general instead of just ripping your cores out of your chest."
Krel charged at the man who once was his boyfriend.
And as he charged, Zoe and Claire opened the doors behind him, making way for a final stand.
A/N: Fun fact: the title comes from a misremembering of a line from TMA episode 159. The misremembering of the line kept bouncing around my head like a pinball. Does that make Mordred a very OOC Peter Lukas? (Also yes I thought I was being clever by naming the evil form of Douxie "Mordred". I will never let the theory die.)

"Traitor."
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Pairing: Douxie x Fem!Reader
Warning: angst, sad ending
A/n: (the is based of off Olivia Rodrigo's "Traitor") This takes place 5 years after the events of Rise Of The Titans, so Y/n is 924, Douxie is 925, Claire, Jim, Toby, Steve, Aja, are 22-23 and Krel is 21 I think.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
You spot it the second you enter the kitchen. Sitting right there on the table; thick, pale pink and off-white...sparkly. It's so obvious that Douxie wasn't the one who chose the design. You pick it off the table, weighing it in your hand just as you're weighing your options: You could ignore it, burn it, forget about it. Or you could open it, see if your worst fears had come true.
You rip it open.
The invitation hits the floor a second later.
You fall into a chair, still in shock, your brain unable to process it.
Burying your face in your hands, you let the tears fall.
And that's how Aster-your cat familiar-finds you when he enters the kitchen a minute later, a sight that breaks his heart. He leaps up into your lap and curls up there, remembering everything that's happened that led up to this. It's been a year and a half since Douxie started acting strangely; It's been a year since Douxie broke up with you, leaving you a devastated mess; It's been a year since Douxie started dating Amiee (Ah-mee); It took three months, but eventually you got better. And now this had to happen.
With a sigh, Aster jumps off your lap and makes his way to the door, planning a visit to Jim and Claire's place. But before he leaves, he turns to look at you one more time, your head buried in you arms which are crossed on the table. You've cried yourself to sleep.
Aster whispers a small "Don't worry, I'll be back soon." before opening the door and stealing away into the night.
----------------------------------------
The wedding party is in full swing.
Waiters are walking around with trays of food, uncorking champagne bottles. Couples are dancing. Some helping themselves to food or placing their gift on a round table piled high with wedding gifts. There are people everywhere, chatting, laughing, even yelling. And half the group is surrounding the bride and groom, congratulating them.
You're standing at the entrance of the tent, dressed in a simple outfit, watching the party. Your eyes sought out your friends. You desperately want to see them. Just then, you feel a tap on your shoulder. Spinning around, you see that they had been standing behind you. Jim, Claire, Toby, Aja, Krel, and Steve. They're all looking at you with something close to pity in their eyes. Suddenly, Claire steps forward and engulfs you in a hug. At first, you just stand there, stiff and awkward, but then you relax, melting into the hug. Claire steps back, giving you a small smile which you return.
"We all know it should be you up there." Aja says softly.
You shrug "Then why aren't I?"
No one says anything. You can tell that Claire wants to, but she's keeping her mouth shut.
"Well, we're at a party, we might as well have some fun" Steve suggests lightly before taking Aja's hand and leading her to the dance floor. Jim, Claire, and Toby all hug you before wandering away. Now it's just you and Krel "You deserve to have some fun you know." he says. Bowing slightly, one hand behind his back, he holds out the other hand dramatically, speaking in a terrible Victorian accent "May I have this dance milady?" You snort as you place your hand in his and he pulls you onto the dance floor where Steve and Aja are already dancing. Correction, Aja is spinning around while Steve stares at her with hearts in his eyes. You push away all thoughts of Douxie and his new wife and try to enjoy yourself, but it's hard to do so when the couple in question are about ten feet away from you.
(Twenty-Four. Minutes. Later.)
The D.J picks up a microphone next to him and tests it before speaking into it "Would everyone please move off of the dance floor? It's time for the bride and groom's first dance" Everyone starts clapping as people make their way off the dance floor and form a circle around it. You and Krel walk over to where Jim, Toby and Claire are standing; Aja appears a minute later with Steve behind her, holding a plate of food.
You suddenly feel nauseas and you're not sure if you'll be able to watch the dance, but the song starts playing and you feel all the sickness leave you, replaced by a wave of hurt, rage, and betrayal that you haven't felt in a while.
This was your song, the song you and Douxie would always listen to. You knew it couldn't be a coincidence that this was their dance song; it was an old one and only a very few people from this century have heard it (I don't have a song, okay?! I'm just writing this cuz it fits).
The scene in front of you disappears; You see yourself, standing in the kitchen, cooking dinner. Douxie hugging you from behind, his face buried in the crook of your neck. You see yourself sitting in Douxie's lap, his tattooed arms wrapped around you, the same song Douxie and Amiee are dancing to right now playing in the background. You see Douxie telling you how much he loves you and that someday, he'll make sure that you're always his. You laugh and tell him that you're already his, always have been, always will be.
I always have been and I always will be.
Then the memories change; You see yourself standing in the middle of the apartment you used to share with Douxie, a hand covering your mouth, your eyes screwed shut, tears streaming down your face as Douxie apologizes one more time before leaving.
You betrayed me! And I know that you'll never feel sorry, for the way I hurt, yeah
You talked to her
When we were together
Loved you at your worst
But that didn't matter
It took you two weeks, to go off and date her
Guess you didn't cheat
But you're still, you're still a traitor!
You feel someone grab your shoulders and pull you in the opposite direction before pushing you into a chair. It's only now  that you realize that you're hyperventilating. Someone hands you a glass of water which you gratefully accept, downing it in one gulp. Your vision clears and you see Krel standing in front of you, looking extremely worried. Aja and Claire are on either side of him, Steve behind them, while Jim and Toby stand on either side of the chair you're sitting in.
"We should never have come, let's just leave, get tacos or something." Toby suggests "You don't need to tell me twice." You mutter as you stand up. As you all near the entrance, you realize that you left your purse at a table "I'll meet you guys outside, I just need to get my purse" You're gone before anyone can say something.
You find your purse at the table you were sitting at before the dance. You grab it and turn to leave but feel someone staring at you. You turn your head and lock eyes with none other than Hisirdoux Casperan. You stiffen as his hazel orbs bore into your own. "Brown guilty eyes."  You scoff and move towards the entrance, but before leaving, you turn to look at Douxie one more time. He's still staring at you.
"God I wish you had thought this through before I went and fell in love with you."

I was looking for the Sandbuster/Deathsong amber scene on Youtube, and watched several RttE clips. And gosh. That hurt. RttE is beautiful. RttE is so well made, and I am telling you that I have honestly not seen anything decent made since the end of the Httyd era. The Httyd franchise is such a good story, and I miss it dearly. Douxie from Wizards was a short glimpse, a quick and sudden spark of something that could have become amazing. But he was gone as fast as he had popped up, and nothing since has been lasting or worthwile.
I feel spoiled, and privileged to have had 10 years of the best story in the entire world to myself. I admit that I don’t know who I am without it. I want to be part of it. I want to be an animated figure in that world; I want the world to function and abide by the laws of the Barbaric Archipelago. Httyd made life so much easier. It was a clear compass of love that helped navigate so many of my decisions.
I constantly think about Hicctrid’s conversation in Httyd3 about how “everything is going to be a lot harder now”. But then, if it wasn’t true, why did the Httydverse ring such a unique bell within me, making me believe that this is the kind of love the world wants? Httyd made me feel so loved. There must have been some truth to it. It remains the ideal I need to see in the world, even though so much has changed and I feel like a mess since the third movie. I feel very vulnerable.
I want the kind of stability the Httydverse had. Where you make your own adventures, are guaranteed to win if you just try hard enough, and where luck is on your side. Idk, sickness in the Httydverse for example is mostly self-inflicted/ avoidable. There’s poison, losing limbs due to dragon bites or accidents, and there are sharp blades. There are clear culprits. But there is no inexplicable cancer, or arthritis or sudden shortsightedness or dementia; y’know, stuff that you didn’t do anything to deserve yet still can’t prevent from happening to you. Httyd assumes that you decide the level of danger connected to your fate yourself. There’s more control. Astrid’s unexpected blindness in Blindsided is the one event that broke this in-universe law and tbh I would have liked to explore her dealing with that a bit more. Cuz where’s the hope in staying blind?
Anyway, just thoughts. The Httyd movieverse manages to give a lot of hope and I’ve been missing that. However, like I just explained, it conveniently happens to exclude some of the more dire turns of life that are exactly the downward vortexes stealing mankind’s hope. Anyone can get over Httyd’s problems since they have to do with your own actions and decisions, like, your mindset. However, there are those injustices in real life that prevail and that continue to rob hope because they cannot be fought against by a single person. And as soon as Httyd arrived at those problems in the third movie, it ended. Dayum.
Just stuff that I’m thinking about.

Orderweek prompt 1: change (for make-up day) @arcaneorderweek
Skrael finds Nari alone in the city and has a change of heart.
~1k (was gonna have more of an ending but I didn't want it getting too long)
The first time he’d seen her again, all it had taken was a single glance to see through her disguise.
The green on her face had been clumsily painted over with a warm brown, her clawed fingers were hidden under wooly mittens and her antlers were obscured by a ridiculously large hat, but it was still so obvious that it was her.
She had been playing with a bright yellow songbird on a park bench, its vibrant color standing out starkly from the dull tones of the city around her. Without him having to say anything she turned around to face him, still able to sense his presence even after all of this time apart.
“Nari. You… you changed your hair.” It was all he could think to say.
She smiled sadly, tugging at the short, dark brown strands that didn’t actually look terrible, although he hated to admit it. “Nice to see you too, Skrael. It was Douxie’s idea. Humans often enjoy turning their hair bright colors, but mine stood out too much, he said.”
“There’s nothing wrong with your hair,” Skrael scoffed. “Besides, who is he to talk? His own is bright blue.”
Nari whispered something to the bird and watched it fly away. “He’s only trying to protect me,” she said softly.
“You don’t need to be protected from us! What you need to do is come back so we can achieve what we’ve wanted to do for millenia, Nari. Come home.”
She looked almost on the verge of tears. Skrael sat next to her on the bench, unsure if she would let him put an arm around her shoulders or if even that small act of comfort would be too much. “I can’t, Skrael. I know you hate humans and what they’ve done to the Earth, our home, but they deserve to live just as much as any other creature. They have mistakes, but so does everything in nature. They’re capable of creating wonderful things, and they are worth protecting from you.”
Skrael turned to gesture at the city around them. “You call this blight a wonder? It’s leaching the world of its life force as we speak, tearing the planet up bit by bit for the sole sake of growing bigger. They must be destroyed for magical creatures to flourish!”
“You have to stop talking to me about nature,” Nari hissed, her eyes beginning to flash green. “I am nature. I am all of the creatures of this world and more. I know what every living thing feels, and I know that it’s horrible, but I won’t cause another extinction event because you and Bellroc have hurt feelings! This world doesn’t belong to you. For better or worse, the humans have it now. I won’t let you try and take it back. So you can give up trying to destroy it all, or you can help me make it better.”
“This is how we make it better,” Skrael said helplessly, knowing that there was no way that Nari would ever listen anymore. “The planet is too corrupted. We have to start anew.”
“Believe what you want, Skrael. But I know for sure that this isn’t the right way.”
And she really did, didn’t she? Even before Douxie, before Merlin, before. . . before she left them. Skrael could see in her face that he’d never be able to talk her down - but even the thought of trying to drag her back to Bellroc made his heart break a little.
“Nari,” he began, trying to sort out his thoughts, “I know that… I know that you believe that. But even if I agreed - which I don’t - I couldn’t leave Bellroc alone. I can’t help you.”
Nari stared at him before saying slowly, “you don’t think there’s even the smallest chance that they’ll change their mind, do you?”
Skrael lifted his shoulders uncomfortably. “It’s in their nature to want to burn,” he hedged. “To them, this is the best solution, I suppose. To burn everything down and start anew. And they care so, so much about getting you back that any action is justified to bring the whole Order back together.”
“You know,” Nari muttered, “sometimes I’ve dreamt that I return to the castle and Bellroc’s so happy to see me that they forget all about their plans and the three of us can be together again. But it’s just a dream.”
She drew back her shoulders, the grass at her feet curling up slightly, and that was what did it. Skrael’s heart, which had been slowly cracking over this entire conversation, completely split in two.
Nari was prepared to battle him. Not only that, but she thought he would actually try to hurt her. If she was so willing to fight, then there must be no change of them peacefully reuniting.
“Just- stop!” Skrael held up a hand, and Nari relaxed only the slightest bit. The tendrils of grass and soil that had been slowly winding up collapsed back into the ground. “I’m not going to fight you, Nari. I can’t.”
“You’re just scared I’ll beat you,” she accused almost jokingly, but her tone had shifted. She knew how much it meant for Skrael to make this decision.
He stood, robes billowing around his thin frame as he cast one last scathing look towards the glass-and-metal abomination that humans enjoyed calling ‘home’. If Nari wanted to defend it, he wouldn’t stop her - but that didn’t mean he could stop Bellroc from trying.
Taking a deep breath, Skrael turned back to Nari. “This is important to you. I know that now, and I won’t get in your way. But I need you to know - Bellroc will find you one day. I can stall them as long as possible, but once it happens - they’ll do what they have to in order to reunite us. And I don’t think I can stop them.”
“About time you realized that I’m alright without you protecting me,” Nari replied. She gazed at him sadly, looking to all the world like a human girl sitting alone at a park bench. Her green hair gone, after Skrael and Bellroc had spent thousands of years braiding it into an intricate web every morning for her. Her elegant antler horns obscured by human clothing. It hurt Skrael so, so much that she had chosen this - but it was her choice. He had to be okay with that.
He had to.
“I miss you, Nari.” And then Skrael flew away on a gust of wind, searching for Bellroc among the gray, dead monoliths scraping the clouds. He thought he heard her say something as he lifted into the sky, but he didn’t turn around. This goodbye was already hard enough.
Bellroc was sitting forlornly on the top of the highest building, scanning the city stretched out below. It wasn’t too ugly from this vantage point, Skrael considered - there was even a certain charm to the way that the streets were laid out in a haphazard grid. Or maybe that was just Nari in his head.
“Did you find her?” Bellroc asked, not turning to face him as his feet touched lightly on the colorless rooftop. Their feathered cloak ruffled in the wind, and their voice was splitting so much Skrael almost couldn’t hear what they were saying.
“No,” he lied. “I think if she was ever here, she left a long time ago.”

breathes deeply. rewatching the last episode of wizards once more has fueled my hate fire for rott. the entire series of wizards was building for the movie to actually be more for douxie to play a huge role. like it get it, jim is the main character so of course he was going to be involved heavily but. completely sidelining douxie and nari in the movie was bullshit. the deaths were pointless, the ending was trash. i think i hate this movie more that h.ttyd 3 which is saying something. the one and only one thing about rott i semi enjoyed was douxie and nari's interactions, those actually weren't bad but everything else and every other aspect of every character was garbage and that movie deserves to quite literally rott and if i ever meet gdt i will ask him how he let such a great series because toa was pretty good as a whole just get ruined.

Eternal Day was so good, I love how you really made all of them feel like a family and how everyone supported each other so much especially poor Jim feeling so bad about himself……
That's so kind of you to say, thank you T_T
What I was looking forward to the most in Rise of The Titans was finally, FINALLY getting to see all these character interact and become close friends and a found family. I wanted to see more Big Bro Douxie, Jim and Aja, Claire and Krel, Aaarrrgghh and Varvatos, Claire and Aja, Douxie and Nari, ZOUXIE, everyone being besties, etc, etc.
And of course, RoTT was just two hours of laying waste to a franchise and everything it built :)
SO YEAH. I wound up leaning pretty heavily into the found family aspect. Wouldn't be surprised if I went a bit overboard at times lol
Jim. Freaking Jim Lake. The movie just RUINED him so horribly I CAN'T--
I was like, "Naw, this boy is traumatized and we're not skimming over that" so Jim took a backseat for a while in my fic. And that's okay. Jim spent this entire series with the weight of the world on his shoulders and he's been hurt by that. I just wanted his friends to love him and take care of him and support him mentally and emotionally because after everything this kid has gone through, he deserves it. And in the end, Jim still shines as the hero we all know he is and always will be. His friends helped him see that uwu

@timewept sent: “ are you sure there isn’t anything i can do to help you in the kitchen? “ ( from vash ! )
Tumblr media
[❇]—;
The viking was in mid reach for something in the cupboards above as he stopped and looked back at the other. Sitting patiently on the barstools opposite of the kitchen counter in his and Hisirdoux's shared home. "No I don't need help."
This was his kitchen. Everything was in precisely the spot it needed to be and while he loved Douxie so so so so so much the wizard knew this was his domain. Just like the library was Douxie's and never really put anything out of place. But mugs were fine. Just not his cooking tools. He didn't like it when they were not where they were supposed to be.
"These are the duties I take as Douxie's husband. Freely." He added just to be sure the other didn't get the wrong idea. Zoe had teased many times this was a forced thing which he always corrected. He loved cooking for Douxie. And they always deserved the extra pampering from their day. "Always preparing a hot meal for them when they eventually return from an outing or work." He took his duties as the house husband very seriously. Did he have his own work? Yes he did. But he loved his husband even more to spoil them utterly rotten. This was just something he chose to do.
"You could take notes though to take home for Zoe." He teases the other with an amused look on his face as he tightened the strings on his apron and continues with what he was doing.

This part makes me sad.
The amount of times that Merlin scolded Doux, and explainined how and what he did wrong, Douxie remembered word for word this time in this scene. And others too, because of how he’d always yearn for Merlin to be proud of him, and his failures in Merlin’s eyes always made him beat himself up about each one 😭😭😭

"The Kronisphere will make everything right," Nari had whispered gently, a soft smile on her lips.
Jim clutches the sphere tightly to his chest, neglecting the heat of the pavement scraping into his knees. Claire follows suit, dropping down to wrap an arm around him. He cries into her shoulder and she places her other hand on the ball with him. Slowly and quietly, the survivors huddle into a hug. They won, but they feel far from victorious.
"There has to be another way, there always have been," the Trollhunter chokes out. He stares at the magical object emanating a healthy green in his hands. It gleams with life, a stark contrast to the reality around him. But regardless, he's not going to give up. Not on Toby, not on the rest of his friends and family.
Suddenly a scene flashes, among the cracks that Aaarrrgghh had caused in his grief-stricken stupor. Claire brings a hand to her mouth.
"Wait a minute," Douxie starts, head tilting. A whispered "By Deya's Grace" escapes Blinky's lips. It's safe to say that the Akiridions, Stuart, Steve, and Eli are shocked as well.
It's them, with their hands on the ball, on top of each other's hands. Their eyes closed in momentary prayer.
And then, a miracle.
Several flurries of nature take place -- some circling around in columns, the others rushing to the debris around them. Edifices are rebuilt, while the trees uprooted find their footing back into the Earth. The roads are melded back to normal and Arcadia High stands tall in its glory. Jim's breath hitches when he sees a column of flowers spin around the silhouette of a familiar winged man with horns. He doesn't let the rest play out. He knows what they need to do.
"Everybody get up! If we're going to do this, we gotta do it together," he orders, disbelief and hope laced in his voice. He knows what he saw, and he's sure the others saw the same. He raises the Kronisphere in front of him and sees to it that everyone puts their best hand forward. A grin tugs at the corner of his lips as he watches the fire grow in the eyes of his friends.
The Kronisphere will make everything right.
And everything right it makes. They recreate the future in the Kronisphere with all the success one could ever hope for. The city of Arcadia is quickly restored to its homely self, as if a magma dripping titan hadn't just rampaged through. As if time had turned back before to reflect the location before disaster.
And maybe it's just a gut feeling, but Jim can tell that rest of the world has just experienced the same healing in its respective areas as Arcadia did.
It's a shame that the magical artifact shattered after usage, however. Must have been worthiness overload with all his friends involved, something along those lines. Or maybe the high demand they bargained. But honestly? He can't bring himself to care.
Instead he kicks the green, gold, and silver shards around across the road and looks back to check the earlier overturned vehicle which is now upright and... empty. Wait but-
"Hehe, that tickles!"
Jim turns around and as the white circulating flowers part, meets the eyes of his best friend, vibrant with life. With grimy hands, he rubs his own. He's alive. If this was a dream, he wouldn't mind sleeping for a bit longer. Maybe even forever.
Shaking, he glances at Claire. She gives him back a watery smile.
"Well? What are you waiting for?"
And that's enough to have him tackling the warhammer wielder to the ground.
"Jimbo! Hey, hey, it's alright I'm here. I'm alive," Toby laughs, patting the trollhunter's back. He shoots a thumbs up and a wink to a delighted Aaarrrgghh and Krel.
"And so are we," another voice rings out. Jim squeezes Toby once more before raising his head, the smile on his face ever increasing in size.
There stood Strickler, Nomura, Nari, even Archie and Charlemagne.
"I can't believe it actually worked," Aja remarks, taking a weak Steve from Eli's arms. Varvatos beams, and lets out a haughty laugh.
"Varvatos is most pleased with this outcome! However it came matters not to him."
"Well, it seems that the Kronisphere has the ability to not only show our futures, but reverse certain aspects of time, according to the beholder's desires. That is, if presented like it was to us. And in our case, we desired in union to reverse the deaths and destruction of the world, not necessarily an entire timeline," Douxie explains anyways. He beckons Archie and Nari into a much needed hug. He couldn't imagine a life without his familiar even if he tried. And Nari, oh Nari, she deserved to witness the joys of life she had heroically saved with all of them.
"Oooh, similar in manner to how Jim used the Kairosect to pause time!" Blinky adds, raising a finger. Claire snorts.
"Didn't you waste a turn back then, Blinky?" she teases. Blinky scratches the back of his head with a bashful smile.
"I was merely testing it out!"
"I dunno 'bout all of you, but I've had enough time travel change whatever for a lifetime," Steve groans.
"You can say that again," Stuart answers in agreement.
It's then Strickler kneels down and pats Jim's head. The trollhunter reaches out and pulls him into a crushing hug. The changeling hugs back with just as much strength.
"Young Atlas, how does it feel to not carry the burden alone anymore?" he muses. Jim chuckles.
"Feels good."

Okay we’re twelve hours out from my rott viewing and I think I can portray my thoughts calmly. I’m going by what I would change for the characters.
Steve
*Sighs*
Okay so he was all set to reform the knights of the round table
If they wanted to do a nonsense plot involving kids heel could be training the changeling familiar babies to be knights a la Sokka at the beginning of AtLA
It’d be cute and get him out of the main plot a bit if he didn’t need to be in the main plot
Also maybe he’s dating Eli and Aja
Cause yes
Eli
I couldn’t devote as much of my attention to his glow up as i could cause it was followed directly by Steve getting pregnant
He and Krel got shortchanged plot wise in this movie
Archie
So just don’t kill him.
He is a shapeshifter and his dad is implied to be in Wizards
So like
Just change forms and escape
Strickler
They could have fake out deathed him
He could have come back for the final battle like
“I survived the ice bitch!”
The movie would have ended with the Stricklake wedding as a sort of epilogue
Toby
Actually everything he did was in character
He didn’t need to die tho
Him becoming the trollhunter was stupid
Claire
I am gay for her thank you very much
Jim
He should have gone back a few hours to save people
Like we already knows what happens when he doesn’t get the amulet
I loved the callback to when he summoned the amulet in s1 of Trollhunters
He’s so pretty
Wtf happened with his voice when he said for the glory of all daylight is mine to command
Loved the jlaire moments
I also got chills when the nine did the daylight speech
Nari
Her death felt like it made sense
I guess
Her in douxies body was great
Douxie
He just felt like he was there honestly
Like aside from the beginning he didn’t do much
I don’t even think we really got his reaction to Archie being gone
We could have done with some Zoe too
Vex
He and Nana deserved a moment
Either Nancy catches the bouquet at the stricklake epilogue wedding or Claire does
Either works
The mech suit was great
I liked the Gun Robot reference
But it felt a little weaseled in there
Like they just wanted a big fight scene
Not something that had heavy bearing on the plot
Anyways the beginning was 9.5/10 but then once Steve got pregnant the rest of the movie is like a 5/10 and the last ten minutes are 1/10

rott spoilers ahead
so i’ve given myself some time to think about everything and try to process it all and here are some of my thoughts on trollhunters: rise of the titans...
- straight off the bat, i loved the intro. opening with blinky telling the story of what happened up until this point was incredible. i would have loved if they had circled back to this though (i saw someone else say it should have been him telling the story to jim and claire’s kids and i loved that idea!)
- i also liked that they didn’t waste time at the start, instead they just jumped right into the action which was fun.
- honestly, i thought jim’s plotline throughout the movie where he basically thought he was useless without the amulet was just really not fun to watch. i understand why it was there and it played into the climax but i really did not find it one bit necessary seeing as i felt that we have grown beyond that. i felt it was overused. we’ve been there before and jim is aware that he’s the trollhunter, amulet or not.
- douxie being so soft with nari was genuinely one of the most heartwarming parts of the movie. i feel that we were really robbed of so much potential with douxie in this movie though. we didn’t see nearly enough of him. it seemed that the writers were picking and choosing when to remember how powerful he is. switching with nari and connecting to her are two examples of when they actually used his power, but aside from that they just disregarded it a lot.
- and speaking of forgetting how powerful people are... i’m genuinely so hurt and let down over what they did to claire. do they not realise how powerful she is? did they just forget about her character arc? it sure felt like it. she got to use her powers a few times (connecting to nari, portalling the titan, etc) but mostly it felt like she was saying she was spent and therefore unable to do anything. she is so strong and so powerful, and that’s just so empowering - especially for young girls. and then it kinda felt to me that rott was reducing her to basically nothing more than jim’s love interest.
- okay another quick note, it kinda felt to me that krel’s potential was also pretty wasted? he barely did anything and i just think he deserved more too.
- ew okay i don’t even want to think about it but i know i can’t discuss rott without talking about the mpreg thing. seriously, what the fuck was that? at first, i thought it was going to be a joke. i thought aja and krel were gonna wind steve up and see how far they could go with making him think he was pregnant just for a little bit of comic relief. but then he was actually pregnant. and so i laughed, because even though it was dumb it was kind of funny. weird and unexpected, but kind of funny. but by the time the movie was over it just didn’t sit right with me. looking past the fact that it was just more of them making steve’s character into a joke, i couldn’t see the logic in giving so much time to that subplot when other characters (claire, douxie) and other relationships (claire and douxie’s friendship) were sidelined. maybe if he had gotten a whole season the mpreg thing could have been included as comic relief or whatever, but with such limited time i really don’t see the point of wasting so much time on something so pointless.
- speaking of steve, i need to talk about creepslayerz... they really deserved more :( like i get that eli literally helped steve through child birth and then named one after him which was lowkey adorable but i loved their friendship so much and i was really hoping to see more of them. i was kind of hoping they’d get to do more as well. look i gave up on hopes of a romance long ago (even though i still really wished it would happen) but i hoped that at least we’d see some more of their friendship.
* by this point my brain has decided to forget absolutely every point i wanted to make... cue the brain fog (we don’t like her) and allow me to take a moment to read back and try to find my point again *
- i don’t think i can stress enough how much i loved the visuals in this movie. holy fucking shit it was just phenomenal. like wow. the art was absolutely fantastic and i’m really hoping for another the art of... book because i love the art of trollhunters and i feel that they could do with updating it to include the newer stuff. but yep, the animation quality was incredible and i don’t have a bad thing to say about it because just wow.
- speaking of art... a moment of appreciation for character designs. just wow wow wow. we love to see such intricately designed villains. we love to see growth in our other much loved characters. and the locations too? fantastic. beautiful. amazing. loved it.
- another moment of appreciation for jim. the hair. the scars. the injuries. the winter jacket. the fact that he looked a little older.... loved it. loved it, loved it, loved it. i cannot wait to spend hours pouring over reference pictures to draw them all.
- and claire... her armor being weathered and worn. her eyes!! her hair looked great as always. i just love her...
- nari nari nari... my goodness, her magic is so beautiful. i wish we got to see more.
- also, the jlaire moments were very cute. their kisses? so soft. they literally love each other so much. i adore them.
- what happened to the babies from the darklands btw? is not enrique just chilling in the lake’s house with a ton of babies?
- barbara deserved better. i would have liked to see her and strickler happy.
- on that note, why the actual fuck did they think a few explosives would win against magic?? literal ancient magic and these dumbasses were like huh i guess we should blow it up. i’m sorry, what?? y’all are stupid.
* currently trying to think of every possible point that isn’t to do with the ending because i really don’t want to think about that yet *
- the whole thing with archie and charlemagne felt super unnecessary. like usually characters sacrifice themselves and it’s like sad and you can see the reasoning and stuff. but they literally could have gotten out. i really did not vibe with that. it felt like they just did that to leave douxie with no one.
- that trollmarket was beautiful though.
- speaking of trollmarket... they really restored the heartstone just like that? are you joking? i was not impressed at all. the heartstone was dead and gone, could not be destroyed. did they just forget that? half the shit in wizards wouldn’t have happened if the heartstone could have been restored. very pissed off by that. it was dead, that was it.
- okay back to jim... love that he pulled the sword from the stone. it was cute that it was a group effort, kinda would have preferred if it was just him but that’s just a me thing. and maybe me and my daylight tattoo are biased here, but excalibur is not half as pretty as daylight.
- not gonna lie, jim yelling come on trollhunters! kinda got me. i was very emotional watching this.
- i think the most in character jim moment of the whole movie was when he dropped excalibur, he didn’t have his armor, he was all alone and he decided to make a fist and fight the wizard/god with literally no weapon or means of defence. i don’t think y’all understand how much i love this dumb self sacrificing selfless boy. i’ve said it before and i’ll say it again, he is literally one of my most favourite characters of all time. i love him with all my heart.
- the armor!! wow wow wow. that was a fucking cool scene. beautiful.
- jim getting stabbed or whatever with that fucking spear thing nearly killed me.
- okay here goes... toby. my sweet toby. jim and toby’s friendship is one of my absolute favourites ever. my goodness. and toby getting in the van and going to save jim was incredible and such a toby thing to do. of course he would think of doing that.
- but like seriously... claire and douxie are so fucking powerful and they were both just like lol i guess we can’t do anything to help jim? i’m sorry what?? don’t tell me that claire wouldn’t go full on black and purple eyes and get herself up their to him. i just... i’m so bothered by the fact that they were sidelined y’all :|
- also, do not seriously try to tell me that aaarrrgghh!!! would let toby go on his own. he would have went with him. he would have followed him.
- literally as jim was falling the first thing that went through my mind was oh aaarrrgghh!!! is gonna run up and catch him.
- and while we’re on the topic of aaarrrgghh!!! why tf did they have such a build up that something was going to happen to either him or blinky for literally no reason? wtf
- aaarrrgghh!!! would not have let toby go alone!!! if he had been there, he would have protected toby, he would have saved him and none of that mess of an ending would have happened.
* ugh here’s the bit i was dreading... the ending *
- first off, i am choosing to ignore it.
- time stone? really? we’re... we’re gonna do this? literally one of the most original things i have ever watched is now - at the literal last possible minute - rip off another movie?? really?? whyyyy???
- i literally cannot express how much i hated it. it was so fucking unnecessary.
- he didn’t need to go back that far!!!
- i’m actually trying to block this out but i suppose i have to at least touch on it. jim would never ever put that burden on to toby. he just wouldn’t. before even looking at all of the other issues with toby getting the amulet, i need to say that. it just wouldn’t happen. he struggled so much with being the trollhunter, he wouldn’t put that on toby.
- also toby literally never wanted to be the trollhunter?? he never wanted the amulet? he wanted to be a duke and have his war hammer and go on adventures with his best friend and his wingman and eat mexican food.
- okay so um i guess they all just forgot about unbecoming? cool cool cool.
- seriously though, was it not established many times that jim literally had to be trollhunter? and if he wasn’t it would be draal and everything would go to shit? did they just forget about that??
- having jim just decide to give toby the amulet literally takes away from the entire meaning behind jim getting the amulet and becoming the trollhunter. the amulet chose jim. merlin chose him. out of all of the creatures in the world, it had to be jim. he can’t just give that to toby!!
- and as much as i love toby, he would not last a day as trollhunter.
- and that’s not even beginning to mention all that jim erased by not becoming trollhunter. no father son relationship between him and blinky. they didn’t stop steve from picking on eli so no steve redemption and no creepslayerz. is he just going to allow enrique to be taken? toby will not have the same incentive to go into the darklands to save him if that’s the case. strickler will not show any sort of sentiment towards toby either. and then the big one...
- IS THAT FUCKER REALLY GOING TO ALLOW CLAIRE TO NOT GET HER POWERS??? WHAT???
- if jim isn’t trollhunter and the whole thing with enrique doesn’t happen then claire will never get her shadowstaff. let’s be real, strickler probably wouldn’t even need angor rot with toby as trollhunter. somehow i can’t see him making it that far...
- if claire doesn’t have her shadow staff then the whole thing with morgana won’t happen. she won’t destroy the shadow staff and then she will never develop her powers. would jim really rob her of that?
- okay i can’t do anymore, it’s too much for me now...
- i touched on this already in a separate post but i gotta say it again... i did not enjoy the destiny is a gift bit at the end. first of all, jim having toby find the amulet literally takes the meaning of that speech and his destiny away instanty. and second, i just could not stand hearing emile hirsch say the words that belonged to anton yelchin. it was just uncomfortable.
aaand i think i’m done. maybe i’ll have more later but i have a headache now from all of this.

What's your opinion on Jim and Excalibur?
Personally, I think he had always been worthy. I do think he should have gotten it at the end of Wizards. Or at least the beginning of RotT. And he should have been able to keep it. He had been set on this path to be this time periods King Arthur, but a better version in every regard, without the hate and fear of magic and magical creatures. He would have united them all, with Douxie as his Merlin, Claire by his side (married eventually), and the rest as his round table advisors.... and damn that would have been such a better movie and ending. To see that transformation, and the start of something amazing, a next level in their journey. It seemed like that was always the message the shows were going for. The power of friends, of family, of teamwork, of hope and love, and yes, even sacrifice. Rott threw that out the window and sent the completely wrong message with the time reset. Totally at odds with the shows.
I'm super salty that the writers made him unworthy until the very end, pulled that 9th configuration crap, let him have Excalibur for one fight, and then threw away that entire next level of Jim's character arc via the stupid time reset. That's not how Excalibur works! Sigh.... I guess, in the slim chance we get TOA shorts, he could still have Excalibur in the new timeline, or something. And that, Trollhunter Toby with King Jim by his side, might make things ok.... but that's probably about as likely as me finding a magic amulet.
While the gesture of everyone saying the opening monologue was nice, I entirely agree with everything you've said here. I think Jim getting Excalibur could have been such a satisfying payoff, and to an extent it was during his final battle with it, but instead it was incredibly underused. It once again comes back to the issues with the end.
I'm all for Jim getting and having a FULL ARC with Excalibur. I was all for him getting it from the start before the trailer-- he's earned it, and it's a satisfying progression of him having been the Trollhunter.
I mean, I can't get over how badass this is.
Tumblr media
We deserved more of this. We deserved more of Jim being a hero at the end of his own goddamn story. And that's just one more way in which the movie failed us.
