But he did it for me
Krel didn't want to merge with Gaylen's core, so Douxie found another way to stop Bellroc and Skrael.
Krel regrets not having merged with Gaylen's core sooner.
Hi, everyone! I wrote this for day 3 of @krexiweek 2023: Enemies to Lovers/Lovers to Enemies. It takes place after Wizards, and is not RotT compliant.
The design and concept for devil!Douxie came from the lovely tenyai, but I went with an entirely different ship.
CW: references to self-harm
AO3
FFN
"So you merged with the core anyways," said the thing possessing Douxie. He sat on a throne, stone with a siglil carved into the back and a starburst behind him. His beautiful golden eyes had been replaced by a brighter yellow, with red sclera and slitted pupils. Krel didn't want to look at them. He forced himself to. "You should have convinced him earlier that you were determined, just scared. Then your boyfriend wouldn't have reached out to me."
"It's okay, Krel," Douxie said, laying a hand on Krel's shoulder. "You don't have to do this."
Krel tried not to lean into the touch "It's my destiny; it's written in my core."
"So? It was also written into your core that you were supposed to be king alongside Aja. Destiny can go fuck itself."
"That's different. Aja could rule alone. She's been very successful at it. That was a prophecy written by my parents." Krel swallowed down tears. "Being Gaylen's heir? No one could do anything about it. There isn't another way. Not this time. We need a god to kill a demigod, and I'm the only one who can merge with Gaylen's core without going mad."
"We don't know of another way," Douxie corrected. He turned Krel toward him, and Krel let himself become lost in those beautiful golden eyes. "We can find another way. Don't worry your beautiful mind over this; I will find another way."
"And where will you find another god? I don't think we're getting out of this." Krel leaned to kiss Douxie. He meant it as a goodbye. Instead, Douxie used the motion to pull Krel away from the Gaylen's core, and Krel went willingly.
"Give him back," Krel said, all four hands balling into fists.
The devil put a finger to Douxie's lips. "And what would you give me? It's not like I can take you over, given the double core you have. Besides, I already fulfilled my half of the deal. Bellroc and Skrael? Dead."
Gently, Douxie disentangled himself from his boyfriend's arms. Even in sleep, Krel didn't look peaceful. Douxie didn't know how to walk into another's dreams, but he didn't need to in order to know that Krel was still thinking about Gaylen's core. Krel didn't deserve all that fear and anguish. He deserved everything Douxie could give him. Douxie couldn't give Krel enough, but Douxie could give Krel this. Douxie had been living on borrowed time, anyways, ever since he fell from the sky.
Gaylen's core wasn't the only thing out there that could kill Bellroc and Skrael. Douxie hadn't even known about the connection until Nari had told him. They had destroyed the physical form of a devil in the decades before Arthur had began his purge of wizards. It had taken all three of them, and it had exhausted them for a year after. The devil had come back several times, possessing different wizards across the centuries.
Silently, Douxie kissed his boyfriend's forehead. He kissed Krel goodbye, and then he left Camelot and made his way to a place in the forest, a few miles away from Arcadia Oaks. Douxie made a circle in salt before he burned the sigils into the ground. Then, he dripped three drops of his own blood into the circle, immediately withdrawing his hand.
"Casperan," the devil said, a spectre of red and yellow. "Now what do I owe the pleasure?"
"You wanted to possess me a century ago."
"Why, are you offering yourself up now? What happened to Archie and Zoe? I remember them not wanting me to have you."
A century ago, Douxie, Zoe, and Archie had met a wizard who was possessed by this very devil. He had willingly left the wizard he was possessing and had gone to Douxie's. At the time, Douxie had never wanted to be possessed ever again. It wasn't like it had been for Claire or Jim; his soul had been trapped with the devil instead of in another world.
"Yes, they fought you out of me, and it was easy for them because I was fighting you to. I'm willing to make a deal this time."
"And what are the terms of your deal?"
"You kill Bellroc, Keeper of the Flame, and Skrael of the North Wind. And you don't hurt my friends afterwards."
"Counterpoint: I don't hurt them if they don't hurt me. Don't tell me you want to leave your body utterly defenseless?"
Douxie frowned. It wasn't like he could get everything he wanted. "Hurting you has to mean direct, physical harm. Insulting you doesn't count."
"Of course not! I'll only commit tit for tat."
"And you can kill Bellroc and Skrael?"
"Depends. Will Nari be with them?"
"Nari is one of my friends."
"Ah, what a change of heart! Well, with your power and mine, I can certainly rid the world of those two."
"Do we have a deal, Mordred?" Mordred merely stuck his hand out to the edge of the circle, smiling.
Douxie took a breath and passed his hand through the barrier of the salt circle, grabbing onto Mordred's hand. As they shook hands, Douxie broke the salt circle with his foot.
And then he screamed. Douxie's screaming eventually died down into Mordred's laughter.
"Um, a new body? I can give you one!" Krel offered. "No other soul to be stuck with, even."
"What, one of your Blanks? Of course not! Not after I finally have such a powerful wizard under my control. You'd have to find me another powerful wizard, willing to take me on, and I'd need to find them better than Casperan. Oh, and the two wizards waiting beyond the door to beat me out of Douxie aren't powerful enough to take me on. In both senses of the word."
Krel woke up alone. He woke up to Zoe and Archie having a furious argument.
Douxie was gone.
His soul remained.
Douxie was gone.
Bellroc and Skrael were no longer a problem, but Douxie hadn't thought too far ahead.
Douxie was gone.
Krel could get him back.
Douxie was gone without a note.
Krel left a note for Aja. He lined up Gaylen's core normal to his own. He then drove it through his chest.
Douxie was gone, and Krel hadn't been able to say goodbye. Hopefully he wouldn't need to.
"I didn't want to do this," Krel said as he drew his serrator.
Mordred looked from Krel's eyes to the blade. "And you don't have to! I could give you a place at my side. You're powerful. We could be wonderful together."
No. Krel and Douxie were wonderful together, not this facsimile. "With Gaylen's power and theirs, we will drive you out."
"Even if it means hurting your precious Casperan?" Mordred said before standing up from the throne. "Well, I believe this counts as an intent to attack. I'll be perfectly within my rights to defend myself. I've never fought an Akiridion god before. I'm sure it'll be fun. Maybe if you fight well enough and beg for mercy, I'll still let you become my general instead of just ripping your cores out of your chest."
Krel charged at the man who once was his boyfriend.
And as he charged, Zoe and Claire opened the doors behind him, making way for a final stand.
A/N: Fun fact: the title comes from a misremembering of a line from TMA episode 159. The misremembering of the line kept bouncing around my head like a pinball. Does that make Mordred a very OOC Peter Lukas? (Also yes I thought I was being clever by naming the evil form of Douxie "Mordred". I will never let the theory die.)

It's been three years since the most recent near-miss apocalypse and things are better than ever for Earth and New Akiridion. However, when Douxie finds a strange magical signature coming from near the ruins of Camelot, our heroes find themselves thrown back in time to a world of knights, kings, and the war that affected all of their lives even centuries later.
In other words, now that I have a title for 3Quel, I had to make a poster! Look forward to seeing “The Wicked Day of Destiny” start posting this November!

It sorta bothers me that post-series people are still complaining about 3Below being disconnected from the rest of Tales of Arcadia. For me, it was a refreshing break from the densely-packed fantasy lore and an intriguing peek at the way the universe beyond Arcadia and Earth functions. I liked the character arcs and interpersonal connections. And there was ample room for me to come up with a bunch of my own headcanons, which I love! I absolutely love being able to slot pieces of my own mind and soul into an existing world! I don't like shows where I'm told how every little detail works, that's way too much to remember. Instead I want enough to create an idea of the rules and how things might have gone/might continue to go and fill in whatever else I want.
Also, I think 3Below was SUPPOSED to be a lot more connected before Wizards got cut down. Tons of ideas didn't make it into the limited series run- I remember hearing stuff about Mordred being involved, a lost Krel arc, and I'm sure a lot of lore that would have bound the worlds together more closely. When they mentioned Gaylen's core came from Earth, there was clearly supposed to be more to that, but it got cut out. I'm like 93% sure Gaylen was a being who was part of or similar to the Arcane Order, but was drawn to the cosmos rather than to a part of the Earth. That would indicate that Akiridion tech and magic are compatible because Akiridions' energy-based life was initially magical, but those roots were largely forgotten because of how old a civilization Akiridion is. They've been spacefaring since humans were cavepeople. If the Order existed from the primeval dawn of the world, and Gaylen left not long after that, Akiridion could be millenia ahead of Earth. Or, heck, maybe Earth was the first or only livable world, and Gaylen created the Order to look after it before going off to try to find or create life elsewhere. I always headcanoned that Seklos was more powerful than most Akiridions or even the Royals that came after her, given the fact her core alone was enough to stop Gaylen while in the modern era it requires two royal cores. Maybe she was created by Gaylen to be Akiridion's version of an Arcane Order type being, and she created normal Akiridions, which she then had kids with, diluting her power in the Royals that followed. There's so much ancient history to unpack from just the tidbits we were given.
As for the modern era, there seems to very distinctly be a major intergalactic connection. The drunk ship operator in episode 3 of 3b s1 that the Zerons interrogate talks about ship classifications, which indicates a universal or at least an interplanetary system of ship ratings. We also see interplanetary tourism, and signs that Akiridion is one of the most advanced and influential planets out there.
3Below doesn't need to continue the plot of Trollhunters to be a valid part of Tales of Arcadia. It brought an energy to ToA that was somewhere between Star Trek TNG and Babylon 5, and I love how it expands the weirdness of Arcadia. If it was supposed to be a continuation of Trollhunters, they would have made more Trollhunters. But it's not Trollhunters, it's 3Below. And Wizards isn't Trollhunters either! I honestly think that Camelot, Douxie, and the world of wizards could have been written such that the Trollhunters cast was much less focal, and that if they'd given the show the time it needed and deserved to tell its story, it would have been fleshed-out and fascinating all on its own, with or without the TH gang. Where are the magic users beyond the reach of Camelot? Are there merfolk, sirens, harpies, dryads, more dragons, or other sapient races living on Earth with their own civilizations and magic and cultures? There are so many worlds and so many potential stories out there, on Earth and beyond, in the Tales of Arcadia universe. Arcadia just happens to be the narrative meshing point of them all. And I think that's a really cool way to build a universe.
Anyway, thanks for coming to my TED talk, here's more Akiridion development as a treat for making it this far.

Crispy, conspiracy kairosect !!!
Crispy - favorite funny scene
The entirety of Crispy Jim. It's my favorite thing. Also "dwarkstone!" "dorkstone?" "no."
Conspiracy - most insane theory
Jim and Douxie’s biological father is the same immortal wizard. I won't be talked down from this, I think it's true.
That, or, Douxie is actually Arthur's bastard son Mordred and doesn't know. I also love this idea/theory
Kairosect - if you could pause time for 43 minutes and 9 seconds, what would you do?
I'd finish the essay I have due tonight October 8, 2023 Sunday night at 11:59 pm that I haven't started yet

Let it rain, cause you and I remain the same. When there ain't a crack in the foundation, baby I know any storm we're facing will blow right over while we stay put, the house don't fall when the bones are good. 💙💕
Now given the opportunity, I can finally share the piece I did for the @talesofarcadiaartzine ,specifically a little bit of headcanoning and speculation for Wizards back in February ✌️I've always been a rather big fan of Douxie and Zoe being this kind of inseperable pair of friends who have been there for each other from the fall of Camelot/Merlin's odinsleep with their cat dad Archie, which this song kind of really spoke to
An HQ PDF of all the pieces made for this can be purchased here, all proceeds are going to support charity

Yuri: I was gone for six months. SIX. MONTHS. And what do I find upon returning? My sister added another to the family, a town filled with faeries and trolls, time-traveling wizards, two of the same demigods, and yet another world in danger of death via magic. Am I missing anything, Jackie?
Jackie: Well there’s actually a lot-
Sawyer *whispering*: Don’t.
Jackie: Nope that about covers it.

Found an old Mordred!Douxie snippet that I decided to publish to tumblr. This is very much not Wizards compliant.
Mordred, no, Douxie fell to his knees in front of the ashes of what had been his home since he had been sent to Arcadia Oaks. The concrete slamming into his knees ached in a way made him question if he would have bruises tomorrow. His knees didn’t hurt as much as the knowledge that he no longer had anything left of his past. Archie, his familiar and the one comfort he could take with him to the modern era. Merlin, his mentor and the only member of his father’s court who had actually believed that Mordred hadn’t willingly killed his father. Douxie could painstakingly copy out Merlin’s books onto modern paper, but it wasn’t Merlin’s handwritten books that had lined the shelves of the apartment Douxie had above the so-called magic shop.
Even his Aunt Morgana, with all her treachery, was gone. He hadn’t thought he would miss her, not after what she had done to him, but she had been all the family he had left. Without his family, what was left of Mordred? Nothing, nothing was left. Douxie was just a mask he’d been wearing for Mordred’s protection, and now all he had left was the mask that he had just started to peel off.
He had nothing.
Purple sabatons walked into his vision. “Morgana, she, um, she called me child. Her child.”
If Claire seriously wanted to have a trauma-measuring contest, Douxie wasn’t sure what he’d try to do to her. Yes, a connection with Morgana sucked. No, he didn’t want to talk about it, especially not with the person who had basically been a rival for Merlin’s attention in these past few weeks. He looked up towards her anyways. There was none of the spite and jealousy that Douxie had become accustomed to from Claire’s eyes. There wasn’t pity, either, and Douxie was thankful for that because pity would’ve been yet another sword plunged into his gut.
“So, that technically makes us cousins, since she was your aunt,” Claire continued. What? “And my parents have a guest bedroom that we use for visiting family. Usually it’s for family from Mexico, but we can turn it into a bedroom for you.”
Douxie let Claire pull him to his feet. “Are you sure your parents will be okay with this?” It wasn’t that he was ungrateful, but he wasn’t about to be tricked into going somewhere he would be unwanted.
Claire shrugged. “I’m sure they’ll love you. I’ve adopted a changeling brother, and they grew to accept him. A wizard cousin? They’ll be way more cool with you than NotEnrique.”

Idea descartada/ discarded idea
When I was finally able to finish the design for Mordred!Douxie (also Mordred's), I started thinking about what his story would be like.
Earlier version:
Mordred and Douxie were not friends. They only knew who they were to each other.
Mordred was the villain for no reason.
Mordred would come out of his seal as a ghost.
Mordred!Douxie was just the evil version of Hisirdoux
Mordred's story was still unfinished. But in the last concept I mentioned I made this drawing.
Tumblr media
I also thought that Mordred would take an interest in Krel and try to make him his king.
I really liked the concept but then I thought it was too cliché and decided to change it.
Apart for that is Seamus or another character.
In the end, things ended like this:
Mordred is Douxie's former best friend and seeks revenge on him because, according to Mordred, he betrayed him and thinks that the best way to do it is by taking away what he loves most through death and Krel will be his first victim. All to see Douxie suffer.

Mordred!Douxie AU
Just some notes on a thought I had last night. opinions on going ahead with it as a full fic
So it starts off where he hasn't heard the name in years
centuries even
that is until the eternal night
"Mordred Pendragon" the whisper in the wind chills him sending a shiver down the gothic wizard's spine but he ignores it
It's not his name
He had been planning to join the main fight in the eternal knights but he doesn't
He's ashamed of how much something so small had affected him
He avoids the source of the voice along with one of the only people capable of reassuring him after something like that
He fights off some gumm gumms he comes across but stays away from the raging magic battle a couple of miles away
It's only when the battle is over and he's made his way home exhausted and covered in dirt that he relaxes, (of course, that is entirely due to the little black fur ball curling on his chest asking what had happened. And using his real name)
Its 2 months after the eternal night when his master summons him, he had gotten so used to the nickname Douxie over the years (mostly due to the mortal struggle with pronouncing his full name) but pushing aside the mild feeling like he was going to get scolded he welcomed being Hisirdoux
The green knight is unfamiliar to him but as the guardians of Arcadia fly away from the burning bookstore he hears it again, a dark growl into the darkness
"Mordred"
Douxie is tense until they reach Merlin's study, Camelot had been the place he called his home since the beginning of his teen years and so he had many good memories there
but so many bad memories to accompany them
Merlin's tower was the only place in the castle he could block ALL of the bad memories as the only place in his childhood where he was ever completely safe
They fall through time and the teens notice how strangely the knights all act around Douxie, especially Lancelot
None of them understands why until they're in the throne room
"What were you doing with a troll, Mordred?"
Douxie has to hide his scowl of disgust as he struggles to come up with a reason that won't get him hurt or the teens
he had to protect them
None of the kids really understand the gravity of how serious it is until Arthur strikes Douxie and Morgana screams at him grabbing him and Claire while Lancelot takes Steve to the barracks and Jim is taken to the dungeons
Merlin being a father, cradling his face to assess/heal some bruising, "Hisirdoux... what happened?"
Douxie doesn't answer and just avoids eye contact hating the feelings bubbling to the surface of fear and shame and self-loathing like he was a child again

Gwen: So how's Hisirdoux?
Merlin: Well, yesterday I overheard him saying to Mordred, "Are you sure this is a good idea?" And Mordred reply with "Trust me". I have never moved from one room to another so fast in my life.
Gwen, nodding as she sips tea: teenagers, am I right?
