people have pointed this out before but I love how the death note jdrama highlights how needlessly cruel L is capable of being..... calling Light (and the other Kira suspects) early in the investigation to falsely accuse him of being Kira just to see how he'd react, taunting Light relentlessly while he was imprisoned and interrogated, and of course the mock execution. all while knowing no one can really stop him. the jdrama really said "btw don't forget this guy's an ASSHOLE"

The wasted potential of Death Note’s women
Tumblr media
Spoilers for Death Note; the manga, the anime, the 2015 TV drama, the musical, and the 2017 Netflix movie.
In my opinion, Amane Misa from Death Note is without question one of the most wronged characters in the history of anime/manga.
Misa was never seen by her one and greatest love, series protagonist Light, as anything even resembling an equal at all—instead, she finds herself repeatedly as the butt of jokes and a ditzy contrast to make him seem much smarter. In the end, Misa became a mass murderer for Light, and didn’t even have the one thing she wanted—his love—to show for it. Light constantly insults Misa, and even cheats on her toward the end of the series. Throughout the series, Misa was profoundly wronged by the other characters, but even so, this isn’t quite what I mean. When I say, “Misa is one of the most wronged characters in the history of anime/manga,” I mean that Misa was wronged by Death Note author Ohba Tsugumi’s writing.
In the hands of a writer who isn’t so brazenly disinterested in writing them, the women of Death Note—Misa, especially—easily have the potential to be the most interesting characters in the deeply iconic series. But as it stands, they’ve been massively shortchanged by writing that presents plenty of fascinating story elements for them, but that never get explored. Good thing we have the stage musical and 2015 TV drama.

L having a genuine idol crush on Misa-Misa at the LCTW novel still cracks me up at how funny and absurd the idea is lmao but then again, jdrama Light also seems to be a fan of Ichigo Berry where Misa's the lead performer.

Watched a compilation of scenes from the Death Note Drama and just….. every version of Death Note gets gayer. (No idea about the Netflix Movie because I’ve never seen it and it doesn’t exist).
Like non-intended but easily shippable stuff with the manga (same situation as the religious symbolism of the apples never being intended, but like it’s obvious);the anime had subtext, homoeroticism, and the foot massage scene where we learned L has a foot fetish (he looks like he, at the very least, wants to lick Light’s foot there if not chomp it 🤣); the musical was just so gay (Rem’s romantic feelings for Misa being canonized, more homoeroticism, Misa and Rem sing multiple songs about love together, the Japanese title of Playing His Game is translated Inside of Him, ect…); I didn’t know much about the Drama before today except the infamous shower scene…. but like when Light first sees L why is it literally a meet-cute?????? I mean I love it but damn, the gayness of death note keeps going 📈

You kin Misa Amane?
You really like her style and probably dress like her or want to. You also kind of have a love hate relationship with her bc you also simp for Light
Also, trauma, but that's obvious along with the intrusive thoughts, possible BPD, attachment issues and abandonment issues
Get some therapy
And no, I won't step on you - a Light kinnie
Authors note: how do I kin both of them and hate myself? XD guess I kin Light more than Misa

Hi hello I would like to ask you about your death note TV Drama headcannons on this fine day (or if you're not in the mood just general headcannons are also good)
Oh I got a TON of Drama Headcanons
- L was very very short when he was younger
- Light would have a lot of anxiety about if he’s good enough. His self esteem is generally really low and he often has thoughts about whether if he’s a good friend, a good son, a good brother, etc. And day to day it varies on the severity. Sometimes those thoughts can come and go quickly and sometimes they can be all he thinks on.
- The note thing that L does with Watari is a habit he got when he was younger due to be selectively mute. It helps him communicate better when he just can’t.
- L’s very confident and content with his body, and frankly isn’t afraid to show it.
- Near and L discuss each other’s respective interests. Sometimes they’ll even have, debates about it.
- L and Near are actually related by blood and L spent the few first years of his childhood trying to take care of Near after their parents died. They spent their time homeless before being found by Watari
- Near has golden looking eyes, especially when the sun hits them
- L underdresses when it comes to winter stuff. Due to him goes outside, L doesn’t normally need to dress up for the cold. This means Light frequently has to remind L that he’s risking getting sick by doing this and l is like “nonsense, the world’s greatest detective doesn’t get sick”. -insert sick L here- (this can fall under canon death note tbh)
- Light wears a lot of “ugly” dad sweaters. L thinks they’re abysmal and tries to ween him off of them but alas, they are here to stay
- Near likes to take naps a lot. And unlike they’re brother, Near needs soft areas to sleep in, with tons of pillows and blankets
- Misa and her band met when they were in secondary school and she loves them like sisters
- Light first discovered his enjoyment of Misa’s music after Sayu showed him some of her music online
- L has SOOO many texture issues
- after the events of the drama, Near took in both roles as L and still remained Bable. They grew their hair out a little but not nearly as long as manga!Near.
