Happy August everyone! We're officially past mid 2022 (that was sometime in early July) but it's not too late to post our mid-year reading list, so here's mine 😊 Much better than last year, with only 2 DNF's. Three books were somehow omitted from this list: Loveboat, Reunion, Brown Girls, and White Ivy (Goodreads also deleted my review for White Ivy after I tried to delete 1 of their copies from my shelf 😡 I hate it when they do that!) but everything else is here. Malice and Greater Good have to be my favorites (I'm currently reading Lesser Evil so I can't determine whether I like it until I'm finished) with Stuck With You as my least fav. Parth and Monty are good office colleagues when one day two new employees, Shama and Mohi joined them. Monty has been struggling from his childhood to find better livelihood when he joins National Chemical Company. However, he's fed with daily office politics,his boss and less increment . Both Monty and Parth, landed in this job to have better livelihood but daily stuff has ruined their expectations. Shama and Mohi have their own stories. To know how this four come closer and adhere to each other, have a look at this book. 🌈 The plot is situated in corporate office. The storyline depicts the actual life of people within cubicles. The narration is very amusing and astounding at the same time. It shows how your karma will bear its fruit. 🙈 The characters specially Mohini has made a special place in my heart. While I felt extremely bad for Monty's condition. Shama's crispy attitude and Parth's nature were wonderfully described. Every character carries it own uniqueness and beautiful vibe. 📘 The way trainer explains about leadership and ethics in a company through game was outstanding . Also, the concept of Bookbar was brilliant. I loved the bond that protagonists share with each other. I've finally gotten through this one! It's better than Chaos Rising but IDK how to explain it 🤔 I did learn more about this new threat to the Chiss but there's SO much political intrigue and espionage going on to make this review spoiler-free 😭 I'll rate this ⭐⭐⭐⭐.5 . . . Hey everyone. I just want to let everyone know what's happening with this account. As many of you know this acct was originally about books but I wanted to branch out and find more inspo, however that's proving to be hard when my parents STILL don't want to understand how social media marketing works, plus WFH doesn't help in the creativity dept, so I've gradually posted less. As a result I won't focus as much on SMM and blogging. I'll continue but lack of creativity withholds me from doing what I enjoy daily. My new goal is to post as much as possible on Stories and at least once a week on the feed. I'm also going to stick to more non-literary content such as college advice. The Thrawn Ascendancy covers are some of the prettiest I've come across! My other favs are King of Scars and Wintersong. So i've finished Lesser Evil, the 3rd in this trilogy, and will have a review up soon. Overall this trilogy is ok, Greater Good (#2) being the strongest. There's a LOT of political and military world building, which gets tiresome if you're not into it, plus you need time to absorb the info, so try to borrow it from a friend, co-worker, relative, etc. I'm going to take a break, read something light, and then jump into the Thrawn Legends trilogy. I haven't had time to write a proper review so all I'll say is this is better than Mexican Gothic, with a likeable male protagonist. He and the female main character didn't interact till the end, which is a letdown since that was promised but I enjoyed this story. Synopsis: Mexico in the 1970s is a dangerous country, even for Maite, a secretary who spends her life seeking the romance found in cheap comic books and ignoring the activists protesting around the city. Happy Hispanic/Latin Heritage Month to the Hispanic and Latin community! I'm reading 3 Hispanic/Latin books that may or may not change, depending on availability at my local library. My API reads for Asian & Pacific Island Heritage Month changed after some were unavailable so this heritage month's reads might go through the same. First up is Velvet Was the Night by Silvia Moreno-Garcia. This historical fiction thriller set during the '70's in Mexico was all the rave last year, plus its sitting on my TBR so why not finally get to it? It's also a noir so I'm not expecting a happy ending but I hope it's better than Mexican Gothic. My Year in the Middle by Lila Quintero Weaver will be my 1st Middle Grade read as an adult. This story is about an Argentinean tween living in Alabama during the height of segregation; I've never read any stories about non-Black and White POC living in states that practiced segregation, which is why I chose to add it. And finally, Not Your Perfect Mexican Daughter by Erika L. Sánchez. I've heard about this book since I was a child but never read it, so I also added it too. This is a coming of age story about a Mexican teen who's looked down upon by her parents because she's not like her "perfect" sister Olga, however she discovers secrets about Olga after her death which opens up a lot of questions for the protagonist. Has anyone ever followed along with their physical or digital book by listening to the audiobook version at the same time? Hello everyone, Happy June! How was your reading progress last month? I'm STILL going through a reading slump, now with a dash of mood reading, but I guess it wasn't as bad as I thought. My average monthly reads are usually 3, so I didn't fall behind. May was definitely Star Wars month for me! 2 out of 3 reads are part of that franchise; I set aside 1 read for AAPI Heritage Month and planned on reading a collection of short stories that falls under that same category, but I had to DNF after my mind decided to focus on The Last Jedi. I like how Channick wrote about 14 year olds starting HS, which isn't the norm for YA authors. She captured Maddie, Cornelious, Carly, and Pilot's friendship with all the ups and downs, highs and lows, and teen drama that's common during that time period teenagers face when they're transitioning from middle to high school! I loved their friendship and how they fought over the obstacles thrown at them from society and Governor Gibbz, Cornelious' dad. There are certain parts Channick could've cut down on, such as the part where she describes their day-to-day actvities inside and outside of school, but other than that I enjoyed her story! Title: House of Salt and Author: Erin A. Craig Age Group: YA Genre: Horror, Fantasy, Mystery DNF'd? No Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐/5 Trigger Warnings: Rape, sexual assault, assault, mild gore, mild violence Synopsis in comments I'm usually not a fan of horror but this is mild enough for me to read. The violence and gore are pretty much minimal and not specifically graphic (except for one scene). This is a retelling of Grimm's 12 Dancing Princesses, but darker. The pace flowed properly - not too fast or too slow - and the ending took on a thriller-esque feel as Craig used the unreliable narrator trope, forcing us to question whether everything really happened or not, but there are discrepancies that leave a small hole within her plot that's too big to ignore, especially one towards the end. I can't post it because it's a spoiler but I don't understand if the curse happened before the deal was struck (when Annaleigh's older sisters' died) or after? It throws off the whole mystery. In conclusion, the writing is excellent (even though the epilogue is kind of corny) and kept me engaged.
