Fernanda Takai - Descansa Coração (2008)

While trying to figure out who recorded the definitive version of My Foolish Heart, I stumbled on this Brazilian interpretation by Fernanda Takai, better known as the vocalist of Brazilian alternative band Pato Fu. With lyrics were adapted by Ed Motta, this bossa nova tinged song is absolutely divine, with Fernanda's vocals reminding me of Tracey Thorn.

Domenico Lancellotti - sramba

Tom Zé, Faust and João Gilberto collide in Domenico Lancellotti’s “machine samba” It’s midwinter in Lisbon and Domenico Lancellotti has invited Ricardo Dias Gomes to stay for a while. They waste no time in doing what they always do, heading down to their underground studio, appropriately nicknamed The Cave, to make music. The fact that Ricardo had just been sent a bunch of Russian-designed synths and was eager to try them out, instantly signalled a direction for the album. “Ricardo had his instruments, modular machines” remembers Domenico, “and I had my guitar, some percussion instruments. On the first day we started making sounds and recording them, and songs started to appear, sambas started to appear.” In just a couple of months the duo recorded the majority of what would become SRAMBA, an album that reaches back to the roots of samba, but does so whilst completely revamping its blueprint, indoctrinating guitar and percussion-led rhythms with analogue synthesisers, Ricardo’s beloved machines. Domenico and Ricardo instantly saw how the synthesisers were not at odds with the sambas they were playing, instead they had a similar sound to its typical percussion instruments (ganza, repinique, surdo, tarol). What’s more, they saw a connection with roots samba, the samba that existed before bossa nova and samba jazz came along. This was rhythmic samba, with grooves that could go on ad infinitum. “It’s samba de clave, geometrically structured” says Domenico. “It’s ostinato samba”, adds Ricardo. Both Domenico Lancellotti and Ricardo Dias Gomes are revered names within Brazilian music over the past 20 years. As a member of the +2’s, with Moreno Veloso and Kassin, Domenico released a trio of albums on Luaka Bop in the early 00s that pioneered a new Rio samba sound with elements of funk and psychedelia. With Veloso and Kassin he would later form Orquestra Imperial, a big band intent on reviving ballroom (gafieira) samba, and that has worked with guest vocalists such as Seu Jorge, Elza Soares and Ed Motta. SRAMBA is his fourth solo album. Multi-instrumentalist Ricardo Dias Gomes first came to notice as a member of Caetano Veloso’s band Cê which helped reinvigorate Caetano’s career with a sound influenced by British new wave. As well as collaborations with Lucas Santtana, Negro Leo and Thiago Nassif, and work with his own group Do Amor, he has released a series of acclaimed solo albums that reveal a restless music-maker. L'ultima volta che ho visto l'Inter andare in finale di Champions ero in terza superiore.

La sera della semifinale ero ospite a casa di due miei carissimi amici, fratello e sorella, insieme ai genitori e alla morosa del fratello, tutti e sei interisti sfegatati: con una formazione 2-2-1-1 (ovvero i genitori su un divano, le ragazze sull'altro e io e il fratello sulle sedie), qualche birra e il ventilatore, comincia Inter-Barcellona.

La partita inizia male e prosegue peggio, l'Inter va sotto di un gol e in casa c'è disperazione, finché arriva una distrazione da fuori: una macchina sta facendo avanti indietro nella strada chiusa, sgasa, clacsona e tiene la musica a palla. Nessuno si fa troppe domande finché la morosa del fratello, con un filo di voce, dice di sapere chi è a farlo: il suo ex, che la stalker già da tempo.

I genitori si guardano, il fratello è parecchio nervoso e la ragazza fissa il pavimento; ma la macchina se ne va e la partita riprende.

L'Inter pareggia ma soffre da matti, e sul finire del primo tempo riappare la macchina, con clacson sgasate e tutto quanto. La ragazza è sull'orlo delle lacrime. Fischia l'intervallo e la macchina si ferma esattamente davanti all'ingresso del condominio. In questa orgia di clacson e bestemmie contro Thiago Motta il padre si alza, prende le chiavi e dice "ora scendo e gliene dico quattro".

Esplode la casa.

La madre scoppia a piangere, la ragazza lo prega di non andare, il figlio è bianco come un cencio, ma lui non ascolta nessuno; attraversa la cucina, arriva alla porta e davanti ci sono io. Gli sussurro "non si rovini la serata per questo cretino..." ma lui mi fa l'occhiolino ed esce.

Ci sono due cose importanti da sapere sul padre: è siciliano (come la madre) trapiantato in Emilia, ed è uno degli uomini più gentili, colti e delicati che conoscessi.

Con cinque spettatori sul balcone come testimoni esce di casa, si piazza in mezzo alla strada, e la BMW (bc of course) del tamarro gli si ferma davanti.

E lui, 100kg di gentiluomo meridionale, tira un cazzotto epico sul cofano.

"SCENDI DA QUELLA MMMINGHIA DI AUTO" grida con un accento palermitano che non è più il suo da due decenni. Lo stalker saggiamente rimane dentro.

Allora si avvicina al finestrino, e con un volume sempre più alto e una mise sempre più da Padrino gli spiega che se lo rivede sotto casa, lo andrà a cercare. Se sentirà il suo nome, lo andrà a cercare. Se suo figlio o la ragazza verranno colpiti da un fulmine, lo andrà a cercare.

"CAPISTI, AH?" gli dice in un siciliano sempre più macchiettistico. Lo stalker sta per rispondere. Il padre tira un altro cazzotto sul cofano. Non vuole sentire parole. Lo stalker fa cenno con la testa di sì, accende il motore e sparisce.

Risale le scale a secondo tempo iniziato da qualche minuto. All'ingresso ci sono sempre io, stavolta con una birra aperta in mano, che gli passo. "Lei è il mio eroe personale" gli dico. "Lo so!" risponde con un sorriso. Va a consolare sua moglie, si scusa con il figlio e la ragazza per essere intervenuto in cose non sue, e sprofonda sul divano.

Come finisce la serata è scritto nella storia: l'Inter rimonta e vince 3-1. Un mese esatto dopo vincerà la Champions League. È il 2010, e da allora nessuno ha mai più rivisto lo stalker nella mia città.
