Finding out you watched tangled the series sent me into a reblog spree from your tangled tag because I recently finished it for the first time. so now I'm curious give me all of your fix it thoughts on the bad writing

hello im so sorry for ignoring this for so long but i forgor </3 but i love tangled the series so much it just makes me want to rip my skin off because of how much it sucks

the thing is. there is so much potential. if it was just a bad show i wouldnt care but the problem is it could have been such a good show <////3 i love every character and the plot lines were ALMOST there every time and it could have been so good i could fix this fucking show hhghghjghhjghgmhgjhjg

like right off the bat theres all the shit with the proposals that i LOVE. i love eugene and rapunzel both trying to propose to each other like 5 times but neither of them could ever get the timing right <333 but the problem comes in with. literally everything surrounding it. the idea that the marriage would trap them pisses me off bc at first i assumed it would be like. they eventually realize that marriage isnt a trap and its not the end of their lives. but thats not what happened. instead it was like "yeah the marriage is us accepting that our adventures are over and we're settling down" ?????????????? and everything chris said always makes me think like. can someone please check on his wife oh my god

THEN we've got varian. literally such a great character, his villain arc is the best arc of the whole show !!! but!! then it was over. honestly i think that varian was one of the characters that made it out relatively unscathed with no stupid choices for his character. but even then thats mostly because he just kinda got ignored after season 1. he didnt show up at all in season 2 except in a hallucination, and im not THAT mad about it bc obv they werent in corona so its not like there was really any place for him but like. please. anyways he got a quick redemption arc in season 3 but the worst part of that was that it was a little rushed so he made it out ok. but the problem comes in with the fact that chris got pissed off that everyone wanted to talk about varian so he refused to give varian anything interesting to do overall. but the problem is that there were already seeds planted earlier in the show to give him more to do (like everything with quirin and the letter) that got dropped bc they didnt want to deal with it

and CASS. oh my god. ive talked about her villain arc a hundred times because it makes me so fucking insane. it could have been so good. like you can go back to pretty much the first episode in season 1 and see cracks starting to form in her & rapunzel's friendship and there was soooo much to work with. but. "gothic was my mom but she kidnapped and abused you instead so you stole my destiny" what the fuck are you talking about. talk about being overshadowed! talk about being forgotten and never taken seriously!! talk about ANYTHING that youve already been upset about in the show!!!!!! what the fuck!!!!!!

and then fucking. the dark kingdom stuff at the end of season 2 with eugene:( :( :( i was a little excited for the dark prince stuff bc ! it could be fun!!! he found out that hes the prince of a dead kingdom and his mother died because of the stone thats the opposite of rapunzel! there was sooooo much there that just got forgotten :( we never even found out how the queen died or her fucking NAME. why did we abandon all the dark kingdom lore at the end of season 2 :(((( i love the dark kingdom its such a fun concept and i want more of it but like. go girl give us nothing ig. the kingdom got completely abandoned and forgotten about within 25 years! lets talk about that!!!!! fuck lets acknowledge ANYTHING about dark prince eugene !!!! and on that note i wish they had done a little more with the fact that edmund had been protecting the moonstone for his entire life just for someone to take it and leave and now his life's purpose means NOTHING.

also it pisses me off that season 3 became The Cass and Rapunzel Show. there were so many other characters with problems but everything else was ignored bc look! cass and rapunzel!!! like can we PLEASE focus on anything else for like 5 seconds.... why was the finale entirely just cass and rapunzel's fight :( everyone was dead on the ground and it was "and now cass and rapunzel are gonna spend 3 seconds handling it" like please..... you have a beautiful cast of characters that want to affect the plot so badly let them help

as a rapunzel fan i think that one thing that annoys me a lot about the show is that. rapunzel can never be wrong. i get that shes a disney princess and its a disney show so they cant make her TOO bad but like,,, all her weaknesses are the shit you say in a job interview. "shes too nice" "shes too upbeat" "she trusts people to much" i wish she had actual problems. like she tends to accidentally be selfish and focus on how she feels without thinking about how it affects other people!!! thats something they could have thought about more instead of making her always right about everything. and the fucking episode on season 3 where eugene says "cass abandoned you you need to let her go" then she goes back in time and changes his past and then hes like "yeah you shouldnt leave cass behind!" NO HE WAS RIGHT THE FIRST TIME. cass literally took the moonstone and left she doesnt want to come back why is the lesson here that rapunzel shouldnt let her go

and oh my god. lance im so sorry for what they did to you. he is SUCH a fun character i love him so much he should have had so much to do but NO he gets one lance-centric episode and a few lance-and-eugene-centric episodes in season 1. then he never gets focus ever again. he gets the moment in the season 2 finale where he starts fighting the ghosts (and i love him so much i love that moment) and then he never affects the plot again. hes so fun because he and eugene have basically the same backstory except lance never had The Moment where he chose to give it up so its so fun to see his approach to just. everything in the show. but we never get to see him!! he gets ignored and shoved to the side so that there can be more hookfoot centric episodes. i will forever stand by the fact that theres something about hookfoot could've been a lance episode. ALSO ALSO ALSO the episode that was pitched with the broken window at the orphanage :( :( :( :( :( i mourn it every single day i wish it had happened. he doesnt get taken seriously as a character even though they had sooooo many opportunities to! then i literally love that he adopts kiera and catalina at the end but. it doesnt get any focus. we dont get to see him getting closer to them (okay we get a little bit of it but STILL there should've been more) so it feels so unearned. i love their little family so much but give me MORE. NOW.

okay im gonna stop now but i have so many thoughts about this show i could fucking fix it. there is so much potential and i love every character so much and i love the version of the plot lines that only exist in my head

life as an emt in a small town would probably be boring in any other place than boot hill, arizona. courtney had lived there his whole life but only came to realize how often strange things would happen after he got a job at the local hospital. no, he didn’t notice the mini earthquakes that plagued boot hill or how the sun would rise and set seemingly at will. he never noticed the shadowy figures that haunted the desert, or how the same car could drive past him four times in a row, all coming from the same direction. the sort of shit he saw during his shifts were of the more... human variety. wooden spoons stuck in the most intimate of places; mountain lion sightings, normal enough for the desert, but of course the mountain lion just happened to be hanging out on the roof of boot hill high school; an attempted bank heist by a group of eighth graders that resulted in one of them getting trapped in the vault. the weird, entertaining things that happened were just a perk of the job, making up for the sad or distressing calls. like now, called into the bar where his little brother worked because one of the ryan kids tried to use a fake id as if edmund also hadn’t lived in the same time his whole life, which somehow ended up in a barfight between two other high school students that also tried to use fake ids. someone broke a leg, necessitating transport to amen county general. courtney would’ve made a quip about the quality education they must be getting at bhhs if he wasn’t one of the few maccleans that had graduated at all.

the maccleans always felt a sort of kinship with the ryans; both their families tainted with the stain of a missing family member. while funny shit happened at work all the time, it wasn’t really enough to cover up the fact that a lot of bad things did happen in boot hill. people died, people disappeared. he could laugh it all off, but he forgot his sister eileen’s face just a little more every year. he pitied sonny and their two youngest siblings, never knowing eileen at all... speaking of sonny! pushing the batwing doors of the bucking horse open with the flair of a snake-hipped cowboy, courtney quickly surveyed the scene. the ryan kid with a bloody lip, that other kid he didn’t know the name of with a blackeye, some girl hanging on the other kid’s arm. he figured she was the one who started this whole thing, since courtney also used to be a stupid teenage boy. his brother stood at the bar, hands on the counter, looking like a disappointed father that kind of found it all funny but didn’t want the kids to know it. snapping one of his gloves over his wrist, courtney called out to the crowd, “okay, which one of you dumbasses needs stitches?” 

sonny was used to bar fights. usually they didn’t involve teenagers, but the ugliness of customers never surprised him anymore. he was around their age when he started working at the bucking horse, the shock was trained out of him long ago. still, the situation was pretty humorous, but mostly annoying. he was the one that would have to clean it all up, after all. he didn’t even really understand how it all happened. he rejected edmund ryan’s fake id because he had been quasi-friends with his sister joey since they were children, he knew exactly what family edmund belonged to, and that he was clearly not a twenty-seven year old man from colorado, named jay sanderson. his coworker had rejected the other teen’s fake id, so he didn’t know if the fight had something to do with being carded, or if had to do with the slender brunette that tried to get in the middle of them. in the end, the reason didn’t matter, especially since a bystander was the one to get a table dropped on their shin, not even the feuding high schoolers. he watched it all with passive interest, it kept him from doing any sidework, supervising them until ems arrived. he hadn’t called the cops; the maccleans were no snitches. speaking of the maccleans... sonny was not surprised to see that courtney responded to the call, as there were few emts in boot hill, but he still felt a bit irritated. he loved courtney, but he had been his biggest tormentor in childhood, brotherly teasing that went farther than noogies and elbow drops. even so, they were brothers, and he couldn’t help the slight smirk that grew upon his freckled features as courtney teased the wayward teens. “i’d watch out, guys, court doesn’t have the best beside manner.” alison warned, only partly joking. suddenly the batwing doors were pushed open again and his head turned to the intruder, “you might want to go the howl instead tonight, i think things might get a little bloody in here.” sonny jokingly cautioned, sparing a glance to his brother that flashed him the middle finger.

Things I liked about the first half of the season:

- KATE❤️❤️❤️ she’s perhaps even better than the book version

- the first meeting between K and A and the 2005 P&P vibes

- Anthony not being aggressive towards Kate

- Eloise (she’s me at every single family/social gathering and forced date with a guy and with kids and… everything)

- NEWTON

- Benedict and his 2 brain cells

- the differences between Kate and Edwina being (mostly) on point

- the chaotic Eloise-Penelope friendship

- making Kate a bit older than in the book

- Edmund Bridgerton Sr

- Anthony’s trauma and the pressure he is under with such a title and large family

- most of episode 3

- seeing Marina fine and well with her babes (she seems slightly unwell and I do wonder if the inevitable reveal is actually what will cause her death in case we do get Philip and Eloise’s story)

Things I didn’t like:

- the ongoing matron vibes given by the Queen and Lady D; they are great together and their dynamic is epic but I still find the Queen so fking useless as a character and her costumes horrendous, while Lady D is every single woman over 40 in my life who thinks that she has a say over my life (I first wrote this before LW calling the Queen out for her stupid diamond thing)

- Edwina being shallow uwu I want a handsome prince or duke uwu and into Anthony when in the book it was shown countless times that she was willing to accept him out of duty and to make sure that her mother and sister will be taken care of financially, but he was not the intellectual she wanted; in fact, they were quite bored with each other in their few exchanges. In the show, they suddenly made them get along despite not having anything in common and the whole opposites attract, While I did like part of what she said to Kate about being obliged to meet everyone’s expectations… I can’t really sympathise with her pain because of the bad writing which takes me to the other thing I hated:

- Lady Mary’s background and, implicitly, the background distinction between the two sisters, because there was enough pressure on Edwina without some random grandparents and Kate’s self esteem was low enough without having to be middle class

- Augie not being Amelia but that’s season 1 bull

- the bee scene not having the same outcome

- the excessive Lady W shit 😒 it should have been kept for the Polin season

- Kate and Mary not being as close and her trauma not being explored

- the Featherington sister getting the ‘forced to marry because Lady F saw something allegedly inappropriate’ plot that belonged to A and K

- the engagement 😒😒😒

Do you taste like Turkish Delight ? I've been told it's pink, gooey, and very, very sticky. It's also very sweet.

This gave me flashbacks to 4th grade. Fourth. Fucking. Grade. And the chronicles of narnia

Holy shit I've spent the better part of 2 decades repressing this

OK so. 4th Grade. Mrs. D's class. English. We spent 6 weeks reading The Lion, The Witch, & The Wardrobe, as one does. Now, in this freaking book, Edmund, who is the asshole child (and in hindsight the most relatable character actually. He's like 10, give edmund a break), little asshole Edmund gets bribed by the evil witch, probably bc he's lonely and scared and she's an adult who is vaguely nice to him. But mostly bc she gives him sugar. This is seen as a moral failing on Edmund's part, but I remember being neglected and 10 and fighting with my siblings, and let me tell you sugar & books were like the only good things in my life some days. I defend a child's right to sugar. My only moral objection to the situation was, the snow witch tended to bribe Edmund with Turkish Delight.

Ah, Turkish Delight, you may say. How exotic. How domestic. How delightfully yesteryear. You may say all that, or not, bc to this day I refuse to learn anything about the history of turkish deligh or where it comes from or what the cultural attitudes were at the time. All I know is 1) edmund likes it, and 2) Mrs. D was in hindsight strongly obsessed. Either Mrs. D was obsessed, or she really really liked Turkish Delight, and she had hit upon an idea that for several years running had kept her up to her eyeballs in turkish delight, service of her 4th grade class. There was an extra credit option, you see, for the book report. There was exactly one extra credit option, and it was simple: make Turkish Delight to share with the class. It turns out turkish delight is easy to make at home, so naturally everyone and their parents went with that option. So many kids went with it, that we had to have a sign up sheet, scheduling when each kid could bring a gooey tray full in. Twice a week. For 6. Fucking. Weeks. Some snot nosed dainty little 4th grader would prance into class, preening benevolently over their loftily held golden tray of sugar goo

Let me tell you about Turkish Delight. It is disgusting. Even as a child with serious issues over sugar obsession, this concoction, which was 95% sugar, disgusted me. This, from a child who ate granulated sugar directly from the bag. First of all, it is goo, which you'd think would be something I could relate to, and honestly that part i didn't mind. But secondly, I don't know who told you it was pink but no, it's yellow. Yellow sticky slippery madness. Because you see that brings me to part 3: it's lemon. LEMON. Overwhelmingly, startlingly lemon flavored. Some absolute fucker of a clownlicker decided to whip together a mess of slimey sugar, flavor it lemon of all things, sprinkle it with confectioner's sugar as an added insult, and call it a Delight. Fuck that.

Do you know how heartbreaking it was, for my sugar addled pre-depressed learning disordered 10 year old brain to sit there in my stupid plastic desk chair, staring ahead as day after day, children brought in food to share with the class. And not just food, candy. This was my dream. This was the peak of the entire school year. I had been waiting since first fucking grade for this blissful legendary 6 weeks of constant classroom sugar consumption. I finished that fucking book two weeks early bc I was just that excited. Because with each page I could taste the Turkish Delight on my tongue. Despite having no idea what it tasted like, but assuming it must be exotic and delicious beyond my wildest dreams because why else would it be called Turkish Delight??? I was beyond ecstatic to get my grubby little 4th grade hands on that first little sour square. It was unimpressive to look at, but I held out hope. I sniffed it suspiciously. I licked the sugar off the top. I raised the square to my mouth, and I bit.

You cannot imagine that level of betrayal. Adultery is presumably less devastating. I could be married to a person for 40 years and discover they'd been deceiving me all along, and that would be less of a shock to my system than being 10 years old with all the illusions that entails and taking my first promised bite of a sweet that was supposed to change my fucking life, only to discover the sickening digust hidden within. The cake was a lie? Fuck that, my life was a lie. Fourth fucking grade was a lie, and if the adults were lying about that, who the fuck knew what else they were lying about??? So it did change my life in a way, because faith was never quite so easy to come by, never quite so unreserved or hopeful, as before that one grievous moment of disappointment, driven home a dozen times over as day after day. Week after week. I had to sit in my stupid plastic desk in the 2nd row and watch classmate and classmate cart in tray after tray of wretched clingwrapped betrayal.

TL:DR: crests have nothing to do with nobility. They are only valued because they give people bragging rights that they are related to certain important historical figures/powerful families.

Can we talk about how stupid it is to claim that nobility exists because of the crests? First, let’s ignore the fact that nobility exists in Brigid, Almyra and Dagda where crests are distinctly non-existent too.

Most of the Fodlan nobles are crestless. Bergliez, Vestra, Ordelia, Gaspard, Rowe, Edmund, Kleiman, Arundel, Gerth, Ochs, Bartels, Hrym and whatever house Acheron is from are all crestless. The Dominics have a crest but they are only Barons, and the only family member with a crest (Annette) is not even the heir. Mercedes and Constance both have crests but they are commoners (for now). Hilda has a crest while her brother is implied to be crestless yet Hilda is not the heir. Balthus is not the heir despite being the eldest son and his crest.

House Varley has a family crest, yet they did not come into power until recent years when the Emperor decided to throw out the southern church and make a new position called the Minister of Religious affairs (whatever it’s called) and their heir is only trained as a submissive wife in order to be married off to someone powerful.

Hanneman is from a family with a crest, yet they are so powerless and has so little prestige that it is not even mentioned in that book talking about the Imperial nobles in the library. They are so powerless that their daughter/sister is raped to death and they can do nothing about it.

House Galatea is so poor that its damn heiress needs to sell herself in order to keep it going.

And don’t forget Hapi and Balthus are both born with crests, but they are not nobles (Balthus is one but he’s a noble because of his father instead of his mother who is the one with a crest).

Yuri and Jeralt both get their crests from random strangers yet Yuri stays a commoner until he gets adopted while Jeralt is a goddamn mercenary (mercenaries were very powerful in the middle ages though don’t be mistaken).

The only prominent families with a crest are Hresvelg, Aegir, Hevring, Blaiddyd, Gautier, Charon, Fraldarius, Riegan, Goneril, Daphnel and Gloucester. House Hresvelg and House Blaiddyd are the goddamn royalty; Aegir and Hevring helped the first Emperor and Seiros found the Empire; Fraldarius and Charon fought in the Independence war to found the Kingdom; Gautier protects the Kingdom from Sreng invasions; Riegan, Goneril, Daphnel and Gloucester were the leaders in the revolution that led to the formation of the Alliance, and Riegan, Goneril and Gloucester still have a seat on the Roundtable while Goneril is the only reason why Almyra has not taken over Fodlan.

Look at the numbers. There are only 12+4+1+1=18 noble families with a crest (12 elites + the saints including seiros and excluding macuil + constance’s + hanneman’s), with only 10 of them being truly politically powerful and prestigious thanks to having played a pivotal role in the founding of the country or being the border protectors. 10 houses in the entire Fodlan. That’s fewer than all of the noble houses in a single central european dukedom back in the middle ages.

Instead of the crests being the reason why nobility exists, how about “some of the most powerful noble families having a crest leads to the crests being valued as they indicate one being related to these families”? They are literally signs that you are related to the saints/12 elites - who wouldn’t love telling people that you share a common ancestor with the King? Or it’s just because these families with an ancestral crest are the oldest families in Fodlan and they have accumulated immense wealth and power over 1000 years and also married into almost all of the other noble houses so that’s the only reason why nobility SEEMS to be associated with the crests?

It’s just confirmation bias that nobility is built on crests. People are mixing up correlation with causation. Crests are associated with the nobility, but crests do not give rise to the existence of nobility. People need to understand that association does not mean causation.

It’s like. My dudes. 

Real-ass life created the nobility system without the existence of magical blood powers that are 1) directly tied to a literal Goddess, like it’s deadass proof of god, and 2) let you do things like, oh, you know, have monstrous, inconceivable levels of strength at all times and sap the life out of people if you hit ‘em right. Maybe, just maybe, there tends to be a correlation (that isn’t even 100% accurate in the first place) because at the time the game’s set in Crests make you objectively better in some fashion? And yeah, that also don’t account for the whack ass system in place if the so called “Crest system” was as prominent as the game and fandom wants us to believe. 

It’s far more consistent that people who do good shit for the nation get to be called nobles. Sure, there are some instances of Crests being the root cause for discord in individual cases, as well as it appearing as though some families being able to gain a title through Crests alone (or mostly alone), but if you take away Crests you’ll 1) only get rid of those few individual cases of discord while the rest of the people fucked over by the existence of nobility will still have a shit time and 2) do shit all about there being a nobility system in the first place.

Loved Peter and Edmund's fighting skills, you could feel that they got trained and felt comfortable with swords

Also loved siblings' change from "the hell??? I'm a what now???" to "hell yeah we're back. MAKE ROOM FOR YOUR KINGS AND QUEENS"

Of course we had to have a conflict so Caspian and Peter don't like each other

The whole scene with the Witch was so chilling, like wot wot is she gonna come back? Caspian don't be an idiot pls, Peter no pls not you too. Yas Edmund save 'em!

The final fight was very pleasing to watch, clever tactics and it was so cool when trees showed up and just destroyed everything

The Voyage of the Dawn Treader:

Not so nostalgic as the previous two movies, didn't remember much

Eustace was very annoying

Loved how comfortable Edmund and Lucy were in Narnia

Also loved Edmund's respect towards Caspian. He was like "okay man you're the king, I'm just here to help" He's changed so much since the first part.

Finally Lucy does something! She fights with a sword, she's the first one to fight off her demons (Aslan helps of course), she's the voice of reason aaaaaand she shot the sea monster in the eye - and it was moving; u got some skill Lucy!

YAAAAS CASPIAN! UGHHHH SO HANDSOME! Just look at him!

I mean... them hair! Them beard! And those dreamy eyes! *btw do you guys have this feeling when you see someone and you're so shocked because you forgot how fucking attractive that person was? Yeah, that's how I feel about Ben*

Costumes were sooo beautiful!

Honestly I didn't really care about the plot, because I didn't really like the movie overall - I was there to see Caspian and Lucy being a badass (but the whole "I wanna be beautiful like Susan" thing was so frustrating)

I didn't like the star-lady, I felt sth was up when she told them the lords were fighting each other so they got cursed and in the previous scene it was showed that they didn't even had any kind of blades near them (their swords were still in scabbards)

aaaand Aslan Saves The Day no.3 (kind of) -> I appreciate how it was mostly about the siblings + Caspian defeating the evil and not Aslan, so that's a plus

The ending felt more definite rather than heyyy we got some story left (because who cares about Eustace)

Overall, I have a special place in my heart for the Narnia Chronicles (but only for parts 1 and 2) because they are tied to my childhood. It's so amazing how watching it makes me feel 10 again, how it brought back some good memories and how it made me realize I'd most definitely show it to my future kids (it has some nice life advices).

Marley Rates Every Shakespearean Play*

Now that I have read every play by William Shakespeare* I think it’s time to do a rate of them all. Hold on to your horses, my friends, because this is probably going to get long. 

Tragedies:

Julius Caesar: 8/10 I liked this one better the second time I read it. I still think parts are a bit slow, and some of the inherent drama seems to take a weird pitfall after they actually kill Caesar, and then there’s the war that pops up out of nowhere and gives the plot a significant change midway through. Still, though, the dialogue? Perfect.  Antony and Cleopatra: 7/10 I liked this one worse the second time I read it. Antony and Cleopatra aren’t likable but their deaths are still upsetting and I really like the dynamics between most of the characters. Unfortunately this one suffers a bad case of ‘fifteen plot lines going on at once, also let’s go to Syria for Reasons’  Coriolanus: 6/10 This one starts off mega slow but gets considerably better later on. Points for the dialogue being so awkward at points that it’s amusing. Also points for being mega super obviously gay all over the place (even more so than most Shakespeare plays, honestly.) Romeo and Juliet: 6/10 I like the idea and presentation of this one but it’s so overrated that it tends to get old quickly. It’s good but it’s not that good. Also, Capulet isn’t given enough credit for being a terrible father. Awful. The worst. 0/10 for good parenting. Also, WHAT HAPPENED TO BENVOLIO. Macbeth: 7/10 high score for things like witches, pretty speeches, blood, ghosts, usurpations, and being short enough to not get tedious. Low score for “what, you egg” and “O, by whom?” Hamlet: 3/10 This one really sells the point of wanting you to feel for these characters but they’re all so angst-ridden that I do not. Okay mostly Hamlet. Actually, almost exclusively Hamlet, but he’s on stage ALL THE TIME and never shuts up. Ever. (Although notably I didn’t like anyone else in the play either.) Othello: 10/10 This play, of all the tragedies, hurts me the most. It might be the ONLY one that actually makes me feel a sense of tangible loss. Iago is brilliant and horrible, Othello is noble and the downfall of his character is painful to watch, Desdemona is wonderful and even the side characters like Cassio and Rodrigo are likable, even in their stupidity.  King Lear: 6/10 I WANT to like this one but Lear continues to not impress me and I don’t know why. I love Edmund, I love the sisters, heck I don’t even necessarily have anything against Lear. But I dunno. It just doesn’t do it for me. Maybe it’s cause I don’t care for Kent much. Titus Andronicus: 5/10 This one has to be read as a comedy to keep from being ridiculous because otherwise what in the fresh hell. You tried, William. You tried.  Timon of Athens: 1/10 “Why aren’t there more plays about financial problems?” asked no one ever. And here’s why! Okay, yes, it’s about a guy who loses his money to his sleazy friends so he curses society and goes to live in a cave. And while that’s #relatable, any play about money tends to get dry after about 15.5 seconds.  Histories:

Henry VI (part 1): 8/10 despite having almost no Henry and occasionally lapsing into weird moments like Mortimer dying and Excess of Talbot and Bedford being carried into the middle of the street whilst dying (?) it also has pretty awesome stuff like The French™ feat. Joan of Arc and Dunois, Talbot being cool, and the beginnings of the Wars of the Roses.  Henry VI (part 2): 6/10 This one was the least intelligible and most dry of the Henry VI plays in my opinion, but I need to reread it. I loved the Duchess of Gloucester, but the plot about the rebellion midway through came out of fucking nowhere and also went nowhere. It probably made sense if I knew the history but even after reading about Henry VI I still have no freaking idea what that was. Also, Margaret was pretty creepy in this one and I dunno.  Henry VI (part 3): 9/10 the best of the Henry VI plays, this one has the most coherent plot and starts to focus on character rather than circumstance. We get a clearer and more tragic view of Henry, Margaret becomes fully realized, York is in full swing and his sons are introduced and awesome. It’s still a bit cluttered but it really feels like Shakespeare hits his stride here and does it wonderfully. Richard III: 9/10 I love this damn play so much. It stops worrying about throwing in a ton of history details and Shakespeare just goes ‘screw it, let’s go for broke on character’ and MAN does he deliver. Richard III is without a doubt Shakespeare’s best antagonist and probably in the running for best character. Also, the ending. Extremely satisfying. Also painful. Also there’s murder in like every scene and who doesn’t love a good off-stage death? Richard II: 10/10 WHY DO MORE PEOPLE NOT KNOW OF THIS PLAY? You like amazing speeches? Check. You like ridiculous melodrama? Check. You like complicated, relatable tragic heroes? Check. You like crippling betrayal? well find a production that does that lmao but check I guess You like humor? Romance? Having your heart wrenched? Suspense? Intrigue? Existential crises? Gage throwing? Cameos of later famous characters (I see you, baby Hotspur) THEN GO WATCH THIS PLAY. GO. DO IT. DO IT NOW.  Henry IV (part 1): 8/10 Good shit: Hotspur. Falstaff. Hal’s arc. Henry’s crippling self-doubt over the overthrow and death of his cousin. The tension between Hal and King Henry. Hotspur’s “I’m gonna teach a bird to say Mortimer’s name and then give it to King Henry lmao” speech. Mortimer. Lady Mortimer! Bad shit: Excessive Falstaff? Hal being a jerkwaffle? Unnecessary use of Backstory that makes the play occasionally not make sense if you aren’t familiar with Richard II? Henry IV (part 2): 4/10 Basically just Part 1 except with the good bits taken out, and longer, and more boring. And Henry dies. A few good speeches but eh.  Henry V: 10/10 because Charles is in it. Yeah that’s right. I’m giving this play a 10 because it put a cameo of my son I’m nothing if not predictable. But also, it has Fluellen, and Henry being an Ambitious and Confident Young King who is Trying To Prove His Worth. And also, tennis ball and horse jokes because those are needed (and yes, they really are.) King John: 2/10 what the fuck. To expand: Death by Monk as an actual plot point. A character dies, and the Surprise! I Lived Bitch and then dies anyway? Also a king gets killed and no one talks about it. Also one character is named Richard and then his name is Philip and no one knows what to make of that so they just call him The Bastard. Lots of random offscreen dying, and (bad) plot twists. Have fun. Comedies:

All’s Well That Ends Well: 4/10 No, all is not well that ends well because this play ended well but it wasn’t good. It would have worked better if Bertram had just been gay and then him avoiding  his wife would have made more sense instead of him being a jerkass, also what the fuck Helena. DIVORCE HIM. I liked the Countess though she was cool.  Much Ado About Nothing: 7/10 Again with the WHAT THE FUCK DIVORCE HIM plotline except, Hero and Claudio. Beatrice was amazing though and so was Benedick. Not sure about Don John. Although, I guess having no motive except “I’m just a little shit who likes to make people sad” is kind of relatable in a sense, but he went to far. Dude, chill. A Midsummer Night’s Dream: 9/10 despite being overrated I love this play. I mean it doesn’t get much better than fairy divorce court being the root of everyone’s problems. It’s just such an utter cavalcade of ridiculousness and yet manages to make all the subplots weave nicely together unlike SOME plays (ie King John). Twelfth Night: 10/10 go look at my URL and then ask me why. But no, really, Twelfth Night is wonderful. I love every character, I love the plot and the subplots blend nicely, it has a nice emotional undertone and some dark themes to give it a bit of impact as you’re laughing at the antics of this group of beautiful idiots. I adore it.  The Comedy of Errors: 7/10 this play is just really, really funny. Like it’s kind of a stupid premise but it manages to make it work because it’s SO stupid that it’s awesome. It’s also maddeningly frustrating, which is the highest form of humor. Maybe.  The Merry Wives of Windsor: 5/10 FALSTAFF SPINOFF but actually pretty good. The added characters were cool and the cameos from Henry IV were nice to see. Mostly just hilarity. I don’t have a ton to say about this one, but it was enjoyable. The Taming of the Shrew: 4/10 I kind of feel bad for not hating this one as much as everyone else in the fandom does but I don’t totally hate this play. Yeah, it’s mad sexist. Yeah, it’s not particularly funny. But I thought the subplot with Bianca and Lucentio was cute, and I really liked Tranio in general.  As You Like It: 7/10 for cool foresty atmosphere, and having the ‘all the world’s a stage’ speech, and Touchstone, and crossdressing, and having a female character who actually had a ton of lines, and Evil Brothers. Minus 3 for OliverxCelia. Shakespeare what were you thinking. Also, he somehow managed to name two characters Jaques.  The Two Gentlemen of Verona: 5/10 Okay. PROTEUS IS THE WORST CHARACTER EVER AND I HATE HIM AND I WISH HE HAD DIED. WHAT THE FUCK. THAT WAS LIKE IAGO-LEVEL VILLAINY RIGHT THERE AND HE GOT FORGIVEN AND GOT OFF SCOT FREE LIKE NOTHING HAPPENED. THIS GUY MAKES CLAUDIO AND DEMETRIUS LOOK LIKE SAINTS. Also, doggy. On stage. Good puppy.  Love’s Labors Lost: 6/10 This would make more sense if it had about 10 fewer characters and more cohesiveness. But I actually liked it. The ending was nontraditional for a comedy, and some of the scenes were kind of funny and cute. 

Romances:

The Winter’s Tale: 7/10 Leontes is the worst. We can all agree on that. Does that stop me from crying when his statue-wife comes to life and forgives him? No it does not. Also, Time is a character and shows up which is... cool, and a little weird, but also cool. Also, RIP Antigonus.  The Tempest: 9/10 Monsters and magic and spirits and islands and BETRAYL and... a witch named Sycorax, and also Miranda being wonderful and having a lot of really nice lines about discovering the world for the first time. Good play. I’m enamored of Ariel from a character perspective.  Troilus and Cressida: 5/10 I wanted to like this one but... eh. It was all right. It was just kind of slow. You spend the whole play waiting for Hector and Ajax to fight and then it’s over and... well. Also the title couple felt like an awkward sideplot. I gotta say though, Thersites was great even though he was awful and a shithead. 

Etc. (you know the ones):

Measure for Measure: 8/10 I love the characters in this one and both Isabelle and Angelo give me feelings in different ways. It’s... not an easy plot to get comfortable with, and the dynamics and way it pans out eventually really hit home. That said, WHAT THE FUCK VINCENTIO. The Merchant of Venice: 3/10 Okay remember when I rated Timon of Athens and I said plays about finances were not a good idea? Well here we are again. This one was actually slightly better because it was more comprehensive, and Portia exists. Of course, there’s also the uncomfortable amount of anti-Semitism that makes one pause and wish this wasn’t happening. 

*Minus Cymbeline, Pericles, and Henry VIII which I haven’t read yet, but I’ll update when I’ve read them.

The Fates of My Characters

so, for many of them, i hadn’t made up my mind precisely what would happen to my characters, but for some i have.  i think it’s always a good idea to keep these sorts of things in mind when writing (and ofc just bc something worked for the rp doesn’t necessarily mean it’ll work for a series obv but yeaH) so just as a refresher, here’s what i was thinking!!  my more recent characters...idk...but w my older characters, i generally have ~some idea but yeah obv all of this can be changed!! really only cassius, charles, and avelina MUST die bc even dezod could just be locked in some ~chamber of eternal torment~ or whatever if it turns out that’s what works best.  im going to put them in two categories - decided and undecided - but really that just means ~general idea~ vs ~100% open~

I don’t write manypairings but for now let’s say Mimi/Edmund (RS) obviously. I’d have loved to seethis unfold more in the show, but eh. At least we got a glimpse to get usstarted…

But if I’m allowed totalk about a non romantic pairing (at least that’s how I’ve been writing them,for now 😉 ), it’s definitelyJackson/Reid.Like, over any other romantic or not pairing. Those two, man. I’d be writing pages and pages of theminteracting on the stupidest small thing and I’d be happy. I live for theirdialogues.

I don’t really have any favourite (it seems I cannotspot one thing I like more than the rest of anything, when I love, I love).Especially in my stuff. But let’s say the end of the first chapter of “In theOld Alexandria” (hell that title). I enjoyed writing this little reunion and INEEDED to write it.

Your Mimimund stories, @soot-and-snide, are always a delight toread and put a smile on my face every time I do so. And I mean a genuine silly “AWWWHH” smile. I also love how you write Jackmund,especially in “It’s You” I think it fits the characters so well.

And @omg-okimhere ‘s ongoing “A Man Reborn”. Because I loveyour style, and it is fixing things that needed to be fixed for Bennet, and doesit gracefully.

ODDLY ENOUGH it seems that “Float” by Flogging Molly might have beengiving “Keep Afloat” its name. Edmund must appreciate the irony. The lyrics though. I think it fits. Yet in the end I don’t really think he manages not to sink his boat. Depends on what boat we’re sinking about.  

49. writing advice

Your advices as I said were words of wisdom I will tryto write by ^^ here are mine, which are maybe (probably) repeating yours:

 -write what you like. Not everyone will like, peoplewill find your ideas stupid, etc. But in the end you write for you and you do whatyou want

 -write for fun. This goes with the first one. Don’talways write with the fact in mind that you will be read by someone else. Justwrite. If it doesn’t become a story at least you’ll have trained yourself atwriting a little more

 -find a way to put your ideas down when they come. It’snew for me but I always have something like a piece of paper or even my phoneto put the ideas down. “Keep Afloat” was alternatively written in a train onwork papers, on the side of a river on a notebook, and in my bed at 1am on mycellphone, and for now it’s going a lot better than all the other fics I’veever tried to write.

- if you can and have interested people to do so with, discuss it. Exhanging ideas about your fics and the other’s makes for new ideas and perspectives. Special kudos to you @soot, @avatoh, @savageinkspillage and @ladyofdragonflies for helping me shape some chapters differently !!

So let’s recap the past couple of days because I haven’t for a while I suppose haha.

Had a marathon convo with Nemoss that went from 9am on Monday to 8am on Tuesday rip and because of that I’m currently operating on 1h sleep but I haven’t really felt very tired yet and I think mostly I’m okay, surprisingly.

So this week is the start of like hell study week jam all the notes into your brain type thing but for some reason I don’t feel particularly stressed about it. I have 112 pages of notes to learn so I’m hoping that the stress kicks in soon. I spent most of Monday morning killing time by playing on my phone and pretending to study. I made a study plan and that’s it.

Then at 1pm I got ready for hospy, grabbed a Turkish melt (yom) and found Kate and friends in Dino. They were going to Coog cos it was pretty hot so I waited for them to get ready and walked with them half the way so I could go to hospy. Time to do my SOCA! I was sort of nervous because I it’s a catchup SOCA to make up for the fact that I fucked up the Effective Communications cap so I felt like I had to make it count but didn’t want to be nervous because I felt that would affect my communication with the patient? I like did a quick recap of the history via Google and then met George my assessor. He was super nice and we went to the cardio ward to do it. The first two patients were busy and I almost had to interview a prisoner (which I was not ready to do lol) but luckily the prisoner was asleep. He was with two policemen and I was made really uncomfortable because as a joke when we asked if we could interview him one of the policemen offered to kick him awake and then when he saw our like shocked faces was like “I was joking” quickly and then like laughed but I felt it was awkward because being mean to a sick patient, prisoner or not is kinda rude? Anyway I had the best luck because I ended up interviewing a patient who was a retired nurse so she like knew what I was trying to ask with the history and could fill in gaps when I forgot to ask about things with useful information and she was super friendly so rapport was good. It was probably the most perfect history I’ve ever done, like structure good and everything and it was definitely what I needed to like boost my confidence about the whole situation and remember why I wanna do med and stuff. George was pretty impressed too so I P+-sed my way through the assessment lol. He did say I should’ve been more like relevant with my questions about presenting complaint though, because she was in for breathlessness and I didn’t pick up that that’s a sign of heart failure so didn’t really ask about related symptoms to heart failure. But overall, it was a good history and I was proud of it.

Then I headed up to Edmund Blackett to attend my actual hospital session. We had this nice girl called Emily running the session and she took us to this patient who had serious scoliosis. It was good to practice the hand exam with my newfound confidence and I feel like I really got a lot out of the whole thing. Hei Wai’s history was a bit stilted but it was actually quite good and just the whole thing was good because it’s renewed my confidence for the OSCEs kind of at a good time I feel.

Then I rushed back to college to borrow a charger off Hamish because mine broke and grab Rid’s textbook before tutoring. Tutoring was pretty fun we were doing polynomial division which is fun to like go through the process. Me and Rid both made a stupid mistake with one of the questions and I got so confused lol but overall it was a really good lesson and I really am feeling the bond between myself and all my kids which is just so hard when I think about dropping them next year.

Then on a whim when I got back I thought I’d study on Floor 7 for some company to see if any of my friends were around. It was windy af but stinking hot and Max was holed away in the stuffy stuffy study room but I joined him for like 30min of studs before STUVAC supper! Because it’s official uni study week, Dino feeds us like supper for Mon-Fri this week and J&D do free coffees and honestly it was so lit. Brownies and fresh fruit (for once) and I ripped my undies by deciding I’d drink a large mocha. I knew the coffee would fuck me up but I was just excited about free coffee and toasties and ham and I was talking to Nemo anyway so figured I wouldn’t be like up and insomniac alone. Kate and Vron were there and we actually chilled at supper for a bit because Kate’s finished for the year so she’s so calm and like chill now – like it’s actually a bit freaky how noticeable the difference is when she doesn’t have a single stress cos uni’s over for her. Vron was saying how she needs to sell her clothes cos she’s so poor and I wanted her like nice conservative clothes for hospy so I was like YASSS I’ll come to your room and look.

So we went to hers and I put aside a potential buy pile and she’s gonna bring up more clothes for me to browse next time she comes back from Tamworth. Then we marched up to Kate’s room so I could relieve her of some clothes. I don’t even need more clothes I have plenty I just wanted to cheaply boost my wardrobe and chill with the two of them and procrastinate I reckon. Linley and Hadeel and Nicky G and Claudia joined us in Kate’s room eventually and it was like a whole party!

Eventually we drifted to the commo and I did some actual work but it was getting pretty late by now so I only got through a couple of lectures. Also my computer just blinked out and died and I freaked the fuck out inside a little bit and had to make my notes off Edward Rose’s notes (which I actually think I may prefer doing now anyway lol) but yeah so it took a bit longer. And so I was texting Nemoss about euthanasia ethics because I wanted to show off my tute and I can’t believe he doesn’t like ethics and philosophy cos I feel like we talk that sorta stuff all the time and I was talking just generally to Max and Claudia and Nick and it was such a good time and then we drifted to Claudia’s room and suddenly it was 3am and we were talking some serious shit about annoying people at college (which was really funny because we all agree but can never say) and about how state laws are stupid and some should be federal etc. and then suddenly it was 3:30am and Clauds had fallen asleep with the light on so we thought we should vacate her room and everyone decided to go to bed.

I was still riding my coffee high and had Nemoss so headed back to my floor and omg Riley had vomited all down the corridor. It smelt terrible and he must’ve vomited like 3x down the corridor at least because it reeked and like in a patchy kinda way too. And then I see Riley and I swear I have never seen someone look so fucked in his life he was white as a ghost his eyes were starey and red and he was shirtless holding his shirt in a crumple and there were literally drips of vom dripping off his shirt-ball onto the floor in front of the bathroom. It was disgusting. And he stared at me blankly and then was like ‘Georgia’ and I was like gonna spew from the smell and I was sleep-deprived and like I don’t really like Riley and I was just like rip rip rip I’m gonna bed so I left him to deal with his shit.

His vom was so strong I could smell it from inside my room with the door closed so it was a huge rip. Anyway by then it was getting kinda late to sleep because I had to get up early to meet corky for brekky so I thought I’d just rough it and stay up and like watch my caffeine doses and like crash sometime tomorrow so I was up chilling with Nemoss by phone till 8am when I crashed for an hour.

Corky woke me up by texting me 40min later to see if I was awake to get ready to go to brekky and she’d even researched the bus I had to take and everything I was like wtf. So I dragged myself outta bed and had to shower on the 4th floor because the 5th floor still reeked like shit and I wasn’t entering that bathroom if my life depended on it. 4th floor water pressure is probably the worst in all of college, I discovered, so after an unsatisfactory shower I grabbed my wallet dumped mascara on and dragged myself on a bus to Centennial park.

Queen’s Park Shed was where we ate and it was actually like very small and quaint, not at all what I expected for some reason but it was nice and had just like chill picnic in the park vibes. Corky and I had granola with poached pear and berries and it was like clearly overpriced for $12 for like a bit of muesli, yoghurt and sparse berries but it was healthy, filling and yummy so oh well. I also medicated with a coffee and I reckon that’s why I’ve made it so far tbh. Corky and I had good chats because I haven’t seen her in ages and she was like not as stressed about uni work as usual because she’d purposely like written time off study so we could hang out. It was really really good to catch up and we talked from 10am to 2:30pm in our procrastination type catchup and it was so good we probs would’ve kept talking except I had to get to class by 3 lol.

SG was boring af we watched 2 videos on like bereavement and palliative care. The first was just an explanation of palliative care and the second was following the life of this irish man who had a large stomach sarcoma and was going to die. It was quite emotional but there wasn’t much like discussion on it and as soon as the vids were over we were pretty much allowed to leave. I was so bored and like not coping (but not tired yet, weird) so I let Kuheli like read texts on my phone and it was kind of weird breaching my own privacy like that but at the same time not really caring because I’m just at that stage in my life where I’m really open cos I don’t give like a shit about anything.

After SG we wasted time with Fenton and Nguyen for awhile then Kuheli dragged me to the coffee cart cos she wanted tea. I stayed well away from that coffee cart because I wanted my sleep tonight thank you very much but considering it’s now 1:30am and I haven’t slept it’s all quite moot, isn’t it? And then I bussed off to tutoring with Ella. Kuheli walked me to the busstop which was nice and I almost crashed on the bus but by that time I was dangerously close to my stop so managed to stay awake. Tutoring Ella woke me up too. We made use of the NRICH site link I stole off Wayne when I used to tutor him and we started doing some problem solving. We were only doing extension Year 5 problem solving and she’s year 7 but I felt that like it was easy enough to ease her into the concepts and yet there were still some things which confused her so I think it was a good level to start and maybe we will build on it next time and go a bit up idk. HOWEVER her exams are coming up so I can’t get distracted by my get her to problem solve goals cos she really has to revise all her topics to do well and pass her test like as first priority. Anyway it was nice session and afterwards her Dad dropped me back at Churchies like right near uni so I didn’t have to bus which was so so so fantastic.

I went up to floor 7 because I think whilst I’m studying I should make the most of people being around and soak up some company too and Linley was studying in the study room. I got a decent amount done, but I’ve lost a lotta time due to wasting time on Monday and having breakfast with Courteney like all day today so I’m still behind but not too stressed. Headed down to floor supper and cos I didn’t have lunch or dinner I like went ham and had a double cheese and ham toastie, 2 donuts and fruit and it was honestly so lit. Stayed away from the coffee again though cos I ain’t that mad.

Then back up to the study room and honestly just threw myself into it. Like Max, Claudia and Nicky G were in and out I think but I honestly can’t say what was going on I was so focused. Kate popped in as well and I think her like meeting with Hugh didn’t go great but it was never going to so at least she was a bit prepared? Idk then we moved to the commo again and the chill cycle is repeating again as we speak with the same people. Hamish has lent me his charger again tonight thank god so I have my phone and now that I’ve successfully (and lengthily) recapped the past like idk 48 hours or so, I can head back for some chats before bed. Hopefully I can find the balance between sleep and chills but idk even if I don’t I just don’t wanna rek myself too much. There’s always a bit of coffee tho tomorrow idk.

Off to Woollahra library all day cos I wanna try a change of scene but also wanna get a lot done so should be like nice to go somewhere slightly different to hang for once. Kk that’s all for now, I know this is quite badly written but I don’t have the cognitive function to like fix it up or write it properly or anything on my limited sleep right now, so it will have to do. Till another day J

i kind of have this headcanon that like, basically martin has been spending every moment past last summer trying to help adaline? because he knows there’s nothing that can bring their child back, but he wants to support her in any way he can. like idk, you know i’m a total sucker for the people who have been best friends for all eternity tbh, so i kind of imagined they’d at least been friends since the beginning of high school for her? like okay idk if they do this at your school, but in america some schools assign like an older student to show you around campus when you get there, and i had this headcanon that martin was assigned to adaline, and they kind of hit it off really quickly? like he’s super friendly and kind, so he invited her to a party that night (and ended up kissing her by the end of the night, what a champ :*) and then he took her on a proper date soon after, whiiiich led to them dating for forever now.

and like, they’ve been through everything together, really. and they’re incredibly supportive of each other, and the thing that’s absolutely killing martin, is that this is something he can’t fix :( like, he knows it’s going to take time and he wants to help kshdksah so i don’t think he’s pressured her for anything sexually, and he brings her tea in the mornings because she prefers that and he always is there supporting her at her dancing things. basically, they’re distant but they’re starting to get better, because while they’re both CLEARLY still grieving, she’s starting to get interested in more than just dancing again and they’re having their familiar banter and are kissing :$ and they’ve started fooling around again, and it’s better? like not 100% again but getting there

so, i sort of think edmund and malena grew up together? like they both come from the same city and things, and like. they were sort of the couple that everyone looked at and was like “fuck, they’ll end up together” sort of like nate & blair you know, except i think that edmund (UNLIKE NATE WHO IS A FUCKBOY) never really questioned it? like, she was as much his best friend as he is hers, so it was like ‘well, if i end up with malena, i’ll be happy’ because he will be and he knows that kshakdh

and i don’t think like, edmund’s a serial cheater or anything or that it was even like a ‘wow i really like eliana’ thing? like, i don’t want them to be a sideship so i think like.. it was something that didn’t really mean anything? like it obviously meant something bc friendsies but it was mostly probably just like malena had left for the summer and they’d been weird and he was drunk and lonely at some society thing and they ended up fucking because eliana is frisky always and he was hot and she might as well try it once ya know :o but afterwards, i think they both felt pretty shitty about it because like, they were all friends and they’d done this super shitty thing to malena who was in like france for the summer??

so i think edmund told malena when she came back from france, and obviously she was super mad and hurt :c and didn’t really trust him again for a while >:( but she forgave him because they were so close before??? and he’s her first love and i think he was kind of really sweet and didn’t get annoyed when she got jealous and there’s still some issues but these assholes are working it out

mm, so my idea for august and brooke is kind of hard to explain because i don’t have it 100% worked out?? but basically, august used to be the boy who experimented with everything?? drugs, sex, etc. and i think like, he tends to get addicted to things.. like not like drug addictions bc he wont let himself!! but like, hes’ incredibly addicted to brooke because he always wants to be around her, but i also think he’s guarded bc his mom cheated on his dad when he was younger, so he doesn’t trust women really? which probably lead to him being a bit of a womanizer before he ended up with brooke??

i think like, lowkey he was always attracted to brooke? because she’s hot and he’s known her forever, and i think he was always teasing her, trying to hit on her and convince her to get high w/ him and end up riding his cock ;) bc let’s face it, he likes high sex a loooooooot and she was always saying no, but last summer, i think like, she finally was like omg fine and they ended up hooking up at some party? and like he was totally like nah one time thing but then it happened and he realized how hot she really was and how good she was, so he made it a two time thing and then a three.. and then somehow he realized there were feelings??

basically, i have this idea that like eliana and matthias are both kind of dumb and don’t talk about their feelings?? like, they both fuck around with npcs a lot, and obviously eliana fucked edmund last summer and matthias definitely knows and gave her a lot of shit about it :c bc he’s rude even tho he’s probabyl a hypocrite bc he’s probably screwed someone who was taken

the biggest thing about both of them is that more or less, they both like to have control? especially eliana, because she’s obsessed with perfection and keeping up the perfect appearance wHICH MATTHIAS IS A LITTLE SHIT AND LIKES TO FUCK UP!! like, eliana has an eating disorder bc she’s so focused on being perfect at any cost and he knows that, and i think he does try to be supportive bc friendsies first :$ but in a lot of ways, he does want to kind of unravel her world a little bit c:

out of the girls, i believe that eliana & adaline are the closest?? because i think like, one of the girls (maybe eliana) had their mom leave when they were pretty young, and the other had a dad who left too?? so their parents sort of ended up together, and it was when the girls were maybe four or five, so it was still to the point where they genuinely did grow up together? and i think like, when they have a secret, the other girl is the first one they turn to and talk to about it, because for them, they are truly sisters :$ so i think like, eliana knows about adaline’s miscarriage when basically no one else does and she’s really there for her with all of it, and the same goes for adaline knowing about eliana’s eating disorder :( like, it’s something she does her best to help because she’s talked to eliana about it enough to understand why she does it kshdkh

i sort of have the idea that brooke and malena are relatively close too? like i know that malena gravitates more towards brooke esp because of what happened with edmund/eliana because she doesn’t want to make adaline pick sides and i’m pretty sure that like she wants to punch eliana in the nose really because fuck her!! but i do think she gets along well with adaline, she’s just closer to brooke because they have more in common and ya know martin not liking edmund puts a damper on that bc no cute double dates rip

lucas has a little sister, but honestly i can’t remember her name? she’s his half sister though, his mom’s and step dads, and she’s ten years younger than him. i don’t remember much about her other than that cause i haven’t played him in forever so i’m like ??? eh. he loves her though. theres also the added fact that i’ve only played him once in a verse where she was still around, normally he’s living somewhere away from his family, so she isn’t always relevant. i’m sure i named her once tho but idk

Bloody buggering Brexit

Rant on British politics and “Brexit” below the cut - don’t click through if you’re sick of that sort of thing, I quite understand. I just needed to get this off my chest. It’s more for therapeutic reasons than anything else. Oh, there’s a fair bit of swearing as well.

Brexit. Bloody Brexit. Not only has that moronic portmanteau of a word not fucked off, but that racist dickhead Farage is still popping up everywhere like a rancid shit that just won’t flush away. Beautiful imagery there - you can tell I’m a writer. Oh, and the rampant stupidity that is the Brexit clown car is still carrying on into the abyss, unhindered by common sense, logic, rationality or anyone with a god damn brain. Currently, the bill to take Britain out of Europe is being discussed in parliament. As far as I can tell, this discussion mostly involves the majority of MPs agreeing that it’s a fucking terrible idea (I’m paraphrasing) but they’re going to vote for it anyway because “the will of the people” or some bollocks like that. There are a few exceptions: the SNP (currently the only political party that really seems to be worth a damn in the UK), some of the Labour MPs who aren’t as blithely ambivalent as Jeremy “What is opposition anyway?” Corbyn, and - God love him - old Ken Clarke, a relic from the days when politicians weren’t just focused on being populist arseholes (a rose-tinted view, granted, but his pro-EU speech in the Commons did make me feel nostalgic). Whilst this shameful debacle was going on, the former ambassador to the EU, Sir Ivan Rogers, was giving evidence to the Commons European Scrutiny Committee. It was being streamed live so I watched a bit of it. Not exactly thrill a minute stuff but it did make a pleasant change to hear from someone who actually knew what he was bloody talking about. One thing that struck me, and then made me very angry so I had to go for a walk to calm down, was just how complicated, how absurdly unpredictable and uncertain, and just how god damn risky, the whole business of leaving the EU is. Where, I wondered, was all of this information before the glorified, non-binding opinion poll that has apparently sealed our fate? (”But it’s the will of the people!” - Fuck off) Why was something so complex, with such far-reaching and unknowable implications, presented to the public, and debated about, in such a simplistic, childish way that left out pretty much all of the detail but included a shitload of racist garbage and made-up nonsense? Are we not adults, I thought, tramping through a field of sheep and trying to calm down? Are we not capable of listening to reasoned arguments and properly assessing the scale of the tasks that may confront us? And then I remembered the internet, and comment threads, and Twitter, and Facebook, and I realised that no, we are not adults, we are mewling, screaming, tantrum throwing children who shouldn’t really be trusted to tie our own shoelaces. That’s the thing. People might be individually intelligent - capable of cooking, crossing roads, even understanding how to put together flatpack furniture - but as a whole, as a population, we are dumb as dirt. Seriously. Just thick as pig shit. A population as a whole is never going to be properly informed, it’s never going to understand, or care about, the nuances and complexities of things that are as complicated as international treaties and the global economy, so why, in the name of Christ, would anyone think it was a good idea to let us decide something like this? That’s the point of having elected representatives, that’s the point of a parliament and a democratic government, so that there is a group of people who can dedicate the time to understanding this stuff and can therefore come to consensus decisions based on informed opinion and debate. That’s how it should work in an ideal world, anyway. In the real world, the politicians are often self-serving cowards or ideologues or incompetent or just as dumb as their constituents.

I’ll end with a quote from Edmund Burke, the 18th century Irish statesman and prolific quote generator: “Your representative owes you, not his industry only, but his judgement; and he betrays instead of serving you if he sacrifices it to your opinion."

Perhaps in another age we might learn from that, but not in this age. It is, after all, the will of the people...

20. favorite character to write

RS : Jackson, hands down. It probably doesn’t look like it since I’m writing mostly about Edmund, but while Edmund is my fave character and the one I like to put through hell the most, Jackson is the one who comes the easiest to me. It’s easier for me to try and get in his shoes, and I love how he still stays funny through the utter shit and despair of this damn show. 

Daredevil : well, the man himself. Matt is a pleasure to write because with him I can fully delve in decriptions of, touch, smells and sounds I cannot with others because I tend to not stop within the limits of human capacity haha (and YES I have no published much about that but I do still write tiny bits here and there). Also he’s the ultimate sad puppy. 

21. least favorite character to write

Bad guys. I never know if I’m being “too much” on stuff. But I know you can always be surprised by humanity’s stupidity and evilness. You’ll notice there are no bad guys in my fics, or very very few, only circomstances. WHEN THERE IS PLOT WHICH NEVER HAPPENS ANYWAY 

Emily Reid, also, is a character I desperately want to write well and with the very little material we have been given, it becomes a nightmare. I’m always afraid of making her too cold, too closed off. I need at least one or two more scenes with her now and I’m not really thrilled to work on them x)

As with drawings, my favourite story will always be the one I’m currently working on. Also I don’t have THAT many that I would be able to chose from. 

However, I’m quite happy with “In the Old Alexandria” BECAUSE I HAVE FINISHED IT CAN YOU BELIEVE THIS

The one which is still stalling (”Let the Children Come to Me”). Meeehhhh. Too bad, because it has good parts, especially from Drake, and in next chapters. I just don’t feel like posting them because they don’t feel rounded enough AND I still don’t know where this is going. Better to let it cook once again.
