Nobody knows why it’s so hard to make eye contact with the Princess. Perhaps its because she’s royalty. Perhaps its something else….
I’ve always been taken with the idea that Zelda/Hylia is a very eldritch-type being; a favorite hc of mine is that after Link acquires the Sword he is able to see the divinity that envelopes Zelda’s every move. He is dutiful not because of his orders but because of her divine nature. It’s hard to disobey someone when you can see the presence of a god lingering around them always.

“Are you sure you want to do this?”
Fierce squeezes Hylia’s hand. “I’m sure.”
“You’ll be sealed in a mask again.”
“I know.”
“Things might turn out the same.”
“I know.”
“I don’t know—“
“Sister,” he gives her a look. “Where is this wisdom you speak of?”
She snorts, which isn’t graceful in the slightest. “What about worry for my brother?”
It touches Fierce, even through the throbbing ache in his heart. He pulls her gently into a hug. “If I am to continue, I must do this.”
She sighs into his shoulder. Her bones are delicate as a bird’s wing under her dress. Hylia makes up for the petiteness in spirit.
“If you are ready,” another voice says.
Fierce turns and nods to Cia, who stands in front of the Gate of Souls.
“Remember, I won’t be sending you back in time. I’m rewinding it. You’ll have to do a lot of it again.”
“I understand.” A cascade of tiny choices led them to this ending. If he nudges it at the right moment, perhaps it can be avoided. That’s what he has to hope for, at least.
“Good luck,” Hylia whispers.
He nods but doesn’t look back. The gate swirls and spins, then reverses direction. The glow brightens until the room is washed out from it. At Cia’s signal, Fierce steps through the gate.
The feel of his wooden prison is both familiar and comforting. Yet Fierce has no way of knowing if it truly worked until someone puts the mask on.
He floats in the timeless limbo of the curse. His thoughts are not kind. And then—
A rush of magic. Fierce opens his eyes.
Wild grins up at him, bouncing on his toes. He’s full of life and energy; aura spilling wildly and nestling into his. He makes room for it automatically and a little tension seeps out of his chest. This is familiar.
“Fierce! I’ve missed you!”
The deity smiles down at the Cub and gives in to the urge to pull him into a hug. Wild is the first flower breaking through the snow. He’s a spring fawn, taking its first step. He’s a fox kit, nipping at the tail of its packmate. He’s the birth of a star, shining with possibilities.
“Hello, little Cub.”
This time, he’ll do it right.

Linktober Day 9
Deity
*sneezes after downing coffee* Well irl stuff got in the way so I'm way behind my original schedule for these and for Linktober but here we go with another arguably short one, fuelled purely by self indulgence, headcanons, spite against my linguist essays that kept me from keeping to schedule, severe sleep deprivation, a shout out to the Ender Lilies soundtrack and Majora's Mask soundtrack, and Nintendo for not clarifying anything about the lore so I'm snatching what I can and making it my own lol. Look, when you fíxate so much on details the Zelda team doesn't elaborate on you have to fill in the gaps with what you can.
As always can be read as romantic or platonic, technically in a LU context but not explicitly in it by itself.
The Lord of the Mountain liked hearing people sing.
In a way, it wasn’t a surprise, Hylia and the Golden Three each had their ballads and symphonies and minuets, each splendid and with cuts of their divinity in it, Farore was fond of lightning and forest alive minuets, and you could swear Farosh sparked just a bit brighter when one would him the beginnings of the Minuet of the Forest near their spring, Din was fond of boleros, fiery and alive and howling with the echo of flame touching earth that made a shine run through Dinraal’s scales, Nayru, in contrast, was much fonder of blizzard and river quiet serenades, the songs of contemplation at first snow ringing clear when Naydra curled around it’s spring, content to be free of Malice.
And of course Hylia had her ballads and lullabies, perfectly fitting to her display of divinity, of honey days and vast bird like wings, of ambered summers to come and to pass and dazzling solar storms of starlight and sunlight sparking through the human form of her descendants and heroes. So in a way, you weren’t surprised at all that the Lord of the Mountain – Satori, with a familiar touch of londsleite divinity, the hunt of the woodland beasts and diamondscar adoration for the Hero of the Wilds, similar in glory to the Light Spirits petrichor and vermeil fondness for the Hero of the Twilight – liked to listen to people sing. What you were surprised was how it attempted to follow along, it’s head across your lap the second you sat down in the clearing, a gentle hum on back of it’s throat, an owl’s cry and a cicada’s humming and faintly, chirring purring as presses it’s faces into your hands, a gentle request for petting.
It was adorable, even with the faint notes of the chill of clear spring water on winter and the livewire feeling of magic, like holding your hand too close to a flame but not quite touching it.
A low chuckle brushes against the back of your mind, a feeling like biting on ice, the prowl of a wild beast and the build up of lightning and light used to create his blade, the amused affection of a warrior reconvening with their brother in arms, you think you see the bone ivory of the Deity’s hair on the side of your vision, though you know he’s not physically there, ‘He likes you.’
You hum, gently patting behind it’s ears, pushing through the chill, gracefully not mentioning the burning with a smile at the mythic being’s faint chirring, birdsong and the wind through cherry blossoms that sparkle like rose quartz, “Well I quite like him too, I can see where it’s gentleness comes from.”
The ghost of a touch over your hair, the caress of lightning striking over your skin and the hair on the back of your neck pricking up and the crisp cold of winter, the chill of the ending and the flame of a new dawn, of new days, the phantom of magnolias and spring water on your tongue. The fragrance of pine, daffodils and blood soaked lilies on ashen fields on your senses, gentle and careful, marking but not claiming, ‘Only because it’s you, beloved. It’s not something easily given.’
You sigh, shakily composing yourself, you let yourself relax into the phantom sensation. Of hopes and dreams and healed suffering, of the divinity of hunt turned into protection and lightning given form, of tangled timelines and crystalized memories, “I know. It does not change my opinion, either way.”
To be the subject of a god’s care and regard was dangerous, after all. For the human and the deity in question, you know the stories from your world well, of the effects of Hylia on First and Sky, of Twilight and the personification of the Twilight Realm and the spirits of his land, of Wild and clawing from death’s embrace into that of the wilderness.
Knew how the fact the Fierce Deity’s mere proximity causing pain on those who changed him into hunting for hunt’s sake into protection for the sake of someone else cut deeper than even the ever encroaching entropy all beings must one day face. It was no wonder the Song of Healing was his creation, to want to ease the burden.
You gladly grant him some peace, in turn, even if it wasn’t much. It’s the least you can do, for always having his ways of watching over your heroes.
“Join me? We can make a duet.”
You feel more than see him shift, ephemeral, fleeting, gentle against the edges of your existence, as foreign to Hyrule as your own, sparking over your spine as you feel ozone and rust on your teeth. Satori is humming again to match the rumble of thunder in the man’s voice, the heralding of songs of war and elegies for the dead, ‘Of course, though I’m afraid I do not know many songs, besides…’
“It’s alright,”, you smile faintly, there’s a white ocarina in his hands, as he leans, a spectre against your side, “I’ll teach you some of my own, though you’ll have to forgive me if I don’t remember all the lyrics.”
‘It would be my honor to learn.’
You think he smiles, from the fluttering of something ancient and long forgotten against your side.
You sing to Satori and the Chain, a small respite of familiar and forgotten tunes, the Lord of the Mountain hums along. The Fierce Deity’s song cutting through any nightmares that may ail your heroes for another night.
When the dawn of a new day comes, the feeling of divinity against your skin feels just a bit more obvious, sinking into every crack of your being like a shroud, falling over your boys like a veil, reflecting the breath of eternity over Hyrule.
(First gives you a look that’s half exasperation, half understanding. Sky pointedly sticks to your side as Time looks you over, markings deep with vibrant color. You shrug with a helpless smile as you feel the lightest brushes of Hylia’s fond days of gold and starlit summers days against the Lord of the Mountains warm, luminous affection and the Fierce Deity’s smug, but content lonsdaleite smile.)

As I have been thinking about Hylia, which led to doodles during my planning period...
Tumblr media
The first drums were feet against the earth, the first pipe hands cupped round the mouth, but the first new instrument - that was the harp, which became the symbol of human creativity and Hylia- as did it's twin, the bow. But when her holy mothers had left, and demons arose to demand their last gift, Hylia did not think her arrows would be enough to stop their king. So she went to the forges that were warmed by her own divine flame, and forged a sword, which she took up herself to fight the fearful enemy Demise- the antithesis of creation.
Originally the patron of a city of humans, Hylia guided her followers to create in many ways, but her duty was not only to teach them, but to protect them- and so she became the center of worship on the town she held in the sky, and then the mother of their royal line as she took a mortal form in order to use the triforce. When the turn returned to the surface and remembered other gods - Hylia was remembered for her gates and temples to time, but not for building them. Worship shifted to the goddess of time and patron of the royal family, but no longer was she honored at anvils or looms. She, who had once said she'd accept the consequences of her plan, accepted these as well, and her name faded. (Until, one day, it wasn't- until the day her name and face were everywhere, but her powers were the same as ever. The architect who'd lifted a sword but once could try to pour as much power into her granddaughter as she could, but she could not save the entire land. She never could.)

Here's the thing
If we DO get to see Hylia, and she's anything short of eldritch and ethereal
Then in Skyward Sword, Demise was just calling Zelda ugly

Round 5, Match 2: Holy Moonlight Sword vs. Master Sword
Holy Moonlight Sword
Tumblr media
From: Bloodborne (and every other Fromsoftware game)
Wielder: Ludwig
One of the recurring elements in FromSoftware games, all the way from King's Field to Elden Ring, the Holy Moonlight Sword is the Bloodborne iteration of the weapon. Implied to have been created by the Great Ones (eldritch god-like beings), it is discovered by Ludwig the Holy Blade in the labyrinths beneath Yharnam, and used to fight the scourge of beasts within the city. Eventually, Ludwig lost himself to beasthood, and found his way to the Hunter's Nightmare, along with this Holy Moonlight Sword. In Ludwig's boss fight, the sword would return Ludwig's sanity to him (perhaps due to its eldritch origins and his own familiarity with it), allowing him to fight like a man, rather than a beast. After Ludwig's defeat, it would either be gifted or taken by force by the Good Hunter to use on their own journey.
Master Sword
Tumblr media
From: The Legend of Zelda
Wielder: Link
Forged by the Goddess Hylia, the Master Sword is a legendary sword that Link uses to defeat Ganon in nearly every Zelda game. Only a wielder that is “pure of heart and strong of body” may use the sword. It has the power to vanquish evil, can destroy magical barriers and break curses made of strong dark magic, and can unleash powerful Skyward Strikes by channeling heavenly energy.

Ok but what if when they finally make it back to Wild’s Hyrule everyone is really excited for giant lion Zelda only to meet eldritch dragon Zelda instead,,,, Zelda with glowing horns and weird eyes “oh yeah so Hylia abandoned us like 100 years ago now Naydra/Farosh/Dinraal is my mom”
Nice afternoon tea with Zelda's three dragon mums, Wild's three Great Fairy mums, weird wine-aunt Malanya, and the ghosts of Rauru and Sonia.
(King Rhoam's ghost is NOT invited)
(The Chain just. Go with it.)

Fi is one of the most subtly powerful entities in TLOZ. Her role in the stories is even more of a Deus ex machina than Zelda/Hylia's/The Goddesses.
In Twilight Princess Link has been cursed by an otherworldly force. I'm taking about magic that doesn't even exist in Hyrule, or abide by it's magic systems. As soon as Link approaches the Master Sword it effortlessly dispels the curse. Yes,Fi is more powerful than even Eldritch sci-fi, extra dimensional forces.
Fi was capable of keeping all of Hyrule in perpetual time stop for what is implied to be several centuries in wind waker, and that was before being fully powered up.
Fi is capable of sealing the Zelda franchise's version of Anti-Jesus permanently, with only a small bit of him escaping to be reborn (the rest was canonically sealed in skyward sword).
Fi is so awesome and I love her. She's the ultimate Big good figure in Zelda, moreso than even Zelda herself at times.

Today's Thought Stuck in my Brain: Sky is totally a paladin.
Sky is the chosen of Hylia, and he can literally do the skyward strike to call down the power of the Goddess. He's also a knight, and he's generally good natured. Virtuous too, as the triforce did not split in his hands. He also fights with sword and shield. Totally a paladin.
Warriors also feels like a paladin, but less of the goddess chosen kind, more of the righteous virtuous knight kind. And if I remember correctly he lost that status once? Though I don't really remember how. Anyway Wars is also a paladin, just slightly different.
Time is a warlock. He made a pact on the moon and gained a patron. He is definitely a warlock. He'll cast eldritch blast, with his sword.

There’s not much left standing at the end. Fierce is screaming, or crying, or both. He falls to his knees and curses everything.
“Wow, you did not hold back.”
“Go away, sister.”
A hand rests on his shoulder. “Is this what courage has been reduced to?”
He looks up at her then; soft and sweet and pure. “This is what courage is forced to become.”
“The curse is broken.”
“It is.”
There’s silence. Fierce stares at his hands, which tremble. They are covered in blood. He doesn’t remember any of it. Just the all-consuming agony of loss.
The hand pats his shoulder and then his sister sits next to him. She tucks her white dress under her legs, balancing on the balls of her feet. “Now what?”
Fierce’s voice is raw when he answers. “What else is there?”
“The hero’s spirit.”
“That spirit is dead,” he hissed. “I’ve lost what’s most precious to me.”
She sighs, and the sigh comes from her soul. “Then I’ve lost my brother.”
“You lost me long ago.”
“…perhaps,” she allows. More silence. Stillness weighs heavy. Then, “I love them, you know.” He glances at her and she elaborates. “The heroes. They are all unique. They all step up in their own way. They all remind me of you.”
He rocks with her nudge, closing his eyes. “Each one I lose takes a little more of me with them.”
“I know.” She settles further into the ground, dirtying the white dress. “I wish there’d been another way, at the beginning of this all.”
“Sister, I can’t keep doing this. That boy…he was Mine.”
She nods and lets the statement rest between them. The scent of sweet flowers his sister carries is at odds with the destruction around them.
“Well,” she says, standing and patting off her skirt. She holds a hand out to Fierce. “What is courage without wisdom?”
He puts his hand in hers because he always does. “Hylia—“
“Come. We have a sorceress to visit.”

LU x TOTK Au Concept: Everything is the same but after Wild gets briefly snatched into his second quest (with or no forewarning whatsoever, jury's out choice wise), the gang shows up again in his Hyrule so he can join them on The Hunt For The Shadow™ again after Divine Intervention Made Them Do It© and they come in just in time to witness the absolute Insanity that was the final battle briefly reestablishing that Oh Yeah Wild is Still Feral and Kind of Unhinged (Positive) and Our Beloved Cub but now slightly more terrifying strength wise. Also brief Sun and Flora meeting where they immediately clock each other with the Same Hat vibes and no one can tell what's up with that.
If you know you know I ain't spoiling nothing.

Fierce Deity with Demonic Eldritch S/O lock Hylia up inside the sealing power, Hylia being rot and isolated forever! (Sorry if I’m being little dark here or being sadistic-)
To sum this up; He brought out a ring and a huge ass cake.
Also no apology needed. It’s Hylia we’re talking about, feel free to be as dark as you want

Good evening Pinky! I have an imagine for you tonight.
TL;DR - Wild gets a mother who's a goddess. The Chain is not quite sure how to react to this.
Imagine that during the 100 years Wild is asleep in the Shrine, when the Calamity is still powerful and Hylia is otherwise occupied, as the land forgets what being inhabited is like, an old god reawakens from a deep slumber. A goddess of the vast forests and roaring rivers, of quiet glades and roaming animals. A goddess who lives and breathes for the untamed, beautiful, chaotic wilderness.
The Goddess of the Wild - Mother of the Wild, to those who still remember her.
Roaming the land, the Mother of the Wild looks upon the destruction of the land and weeps. Slowly, she coaxes life back where it had once been, though she cannot do much - the malice infection is too severe, and her powers were never focused on healing. No, what she does best is help the land adapt to all of these new changes.
Now, imagine this goddess one day encountering a certain newly awakened hero. A young hero who, like she, roams the land and marvels at the wilderness.
The Mother of the Wild looks at this lost child and goes "is nobody going to adopt this kid?" and doesn't wait for an answer. And Wild, being just a little eldritch from the entire ordeal, recognizes the divinity rolling off of this woman in comforting waves, and immediately accepts the adoption.
He calls her Mother within a day of meeting her.
Wild has his adventure, but along the way the Mother of the Wild guides him and teaches him. She's a steady presence in his life, and she loves her child very much.
She also loses her mind when he suddenly disappears to who knows where, only to return a month later with eight other Links in tow.
Now, imagine the Chain reacting to Wild calling this old goddess mom and introducing her like it's the most normal thing, and the goddess in question scolding him for disappearing on her like that.
Legend: THIS is who you meant when you talked about your mom??? Wild: Yes, of course? She's been caring for me since a week after I woke up again, why wouldn't she be my mom? Mother of the Wild: It'd be much easier to be your mom if you'd stop scaring me to death all the time.
Alternatively: the Mother of the Wild gets a bunch of new sons. No, she will not let them have a say, they're her's now.
NORDIC!!!!! :DD
Long time no see buddy!!!
I love this idea!! I don't think Hylia would have a say in this either. If anything, she'd have to more or less (theoretically of course) get permission from Mama Bear now in regards with anything to these boys.
I bet it's a bit awkward to the rest of the heroes though. Wind tilts his head, raises his hand politely. "But I already have my grandma?"
"Nonsense, child. I am not replacing her. I merely stepping in."
...No one else has anything to say to that. There's just... not enough arguments to properly stop her to begin with. They might as well get used to it.
