artery is a FICTIONAL (sadly) all-female southern californian thrash band from the early to mid-80s that i made up and am now obsessed w...under the cut i have a summary of their history but some "incidents" that r not mentioned but r classics to know. there r more ofc but these r my 5 favorites

slayer incident (kerry king was invited to a practice cuz ronnie wanted to fuck him. he stole one of jacks songs. jack tried to kill him but was pulled off b4 she did. jack talked shit abt slayer until her death)

ronnie's 20th birthday party (her parents got her a pink mustang ('83 not '68 which is (one of) her dream cars). jack made fun of her. she ran jack over with it. jack did not die)

laundromat pizza incident (on tour for total annihilation. went into a laundromat to do laundry, ordered a pizza. jack was drunk n high off her ass, put the pizza in the washer with the clothes. it was very gross but so funny. only time jack like. actually cried not from laughing) 

the pussy cast (max broke her arm at the end of their '83 tour, jack and gale drew vaginas and boobs all over it. ronnie still has it somewhere)

pig guts incident (august '82. jack wanted to have a photoshoot with blood. darcy's uncle knew a guy who owned a pig farm. they drove to his farm n picked up like 2 barrels (200 liters) of pig blood n took it back to their house. started w jack making everyone dip their hands in the blood. darcy took pictures but jack thought it would be funny to throw some at her, turning it into a fight. there was no winner, only a loser (ronnie, who got so grossed out she threw up.) there r like 3 pictures from that shoot cuz the blood like. got into the camera n fucked up the negatives <\3)

Inspired by the emerging NWOBHM and the rapid growth of punk and hardcore in southern California, Maxine “Max” Kennedy (guitar, vocals) and Ronnie Young (drums) formed Artery in early 1981. The pair met at school when Young noticed Kennedy wearing a tee shirt for the British heavy metal/punk band Motorhead and bonded over their appreciation for Black Sabbath, Angel Witch, and the aforementioned Motorhead. Schoolmate Gale Barker was recruited into the band two weeks later, after the pair saw a performance with Barker’s then-band, “Bitch” where Barker played a bass solo and destroyed a drum kit, amplifier, and, as legend has it, an extra-large pizza supplied by Kennedy and Young after the show. 

During the summer of ‘81, Artery had great difficulty finding a lead guitarist, mostly playing and practicing as a trio. Barker met Jacqueline “Jack” Walsh in a record store and Walsh’s aggressive, confrontational playing style melded perfectly with Kennedy, Barker, and Young’s. She was brought on board immediately and Artery’s lineup was finalized.

Their demo “Dig Yr Grave” (recorded December 1981) took the underground scene by storm and in the following months, a follow-up ("Spitfire," recorded June 1982) was written and released. 

They were picked up by Metal Blade to record an EP in the summer of ‘82. During these recording sessions, Artery actually had so much material prepared that they elected to abandon the EP and record an LP. “No Mercy... No Peace” was released on February 11th, 1983 to great enthusiasm and acclaim in the underground metal community. Artery set off on a modest (but successful!) American tour in the spring and summer of 1983, and upon returning to California, recorded their 2nd LP, “Total Annihilation,” released January, 1984. More touring and another round of recording followed, and their 3rd LP, “Death,” was released in May 1985. This would be Artery’s last official release, as Walsh passed away on November 3rd, 1985, during the 2nd American leg of the supporting tour.   

The band broke up soon after. Young went on to found Armageddon Inc., a label specializing in the extreme metal emerging in the late 80s; Barker became a visual artist and played in various California-based punk bands. Kennedy disappeared from public life entirely and has not been seen or heard from in 30 years. Whether she is alive or not is subject to much speculation. Kennedy is not mentioned in any interviews given by Barker or Young after Artery’s dissolution.

Can we talk about novel! vs show!Porchay?

Please take this with a grain of salt because we haven’t actually reached the parts of the plot I’m going to talk about so there is still room for it to happen in the show, however unlikely it’s looking so far.

NOVEL SPOILERS AHEAD (obviously)

So far, show!Chay has been a little ray of sunshine while also making it clear whose brother he is, which novel!Chay did a little differently. In the original novel, Porchay was a little spicier when it came to his language, which can be very clearly seen in two parts of the novel.

“Do you think this will scare me? You're just being insecure. Because whatever you do, my brother will always be ahead of you. He's even better than you because P’Kinn won't follow him around like that if he's not!”

So the first is when he’s kidnapped by Tawan and takes it as an opportunity to mock his brother-in-law’s ex and hit him where it really hurts. The novel even mentions him having fun annoying him. He also calls Tawan a preschooler.

"Kim, you fucking bastard! Just try getting on with someone else, I'll pray to the Gods to make your dick shrink and rot!"

The second time is during the gathering of mafia wives (Tae’s words, not mine), which he tags along on because he’s absolutely convinced Kim is cheating on him (as far as we know, he was not). And he yells that out the car window as they drive away.

So, in conclusion, I really would love to see Baby Chay show his fangs a little bit. He’s been very precious so far, and I appreciate that, I really do, especially in a mafia show where he is the one shining beacon of purity and Wattpad-like joy amidst the darkness of moral ambiguity, but at the same time, it could be interesting to see him just SNAP at some point. He is Porsche’s little brother after all, and I would love to see him make at least a snarky comment.

Timelining KP

The time has come. I’ve spent the last few days organizing my notes as much as possible, so here it is. And it is a monster of a post, I swear I didn’t realize how long this was going to end up being.

HUGE NOVEL SPOILERS AHEAD

So the short version is this:

Ep 10 - VP starts, Chay gets kidnapped, further discussion of the mole, videos, Tawan is dealt with (30 - 33)

Ep 11 - VP episode, “fuck where’s Pete”/dead body, Porsche’s birthday (34 - 36)

Ep 12 - funeral/Return of the Pete, post-VP (36 - 40)

Ep 13 - parental issues, conversation re: Vegas  (42 - 44)

Ep 14 - boss battle, party (44 - end)

And now things get more specific, which is what was taking me so long.

Episode 10 (next episode)

Transition between the end of the Tawan arc and the beginning of the VegasPete/Everything-Is-An-Absolute-Trainwreck arc

VegasPete starts (obviously)

KinnPorsche will probably break up, but get back together by the end of the episode, potentially with the pool scene (although I know I’m setting myself up to be clowned with this one)

KimChay reveal

Kidnapping plotline

Porsche tries to move out/Big pushes Chay dumpster fire extravaganza

Basically everything up to the end of chapter 33 of the main novel (Tawan arc over, KimChay are a mess)

Further discussion of the mole (Kim knows Porsche isn’t the mole, everyone else probably realizes he isn’t the mole, so who is?)

Again, potentially Chay getting kidnapped (kinda hoping that’s what they go with since it was a really nice transition in the novel, not just for Chay himself, but it was the push KinnPorsche needed to talk out some of their issues and get back together, particularly for Porsche to be willing to hear Kinn out after the shit he pulled)

Maybe the whole thing with the sex tapes toward the end, or episode 11, or not at all, who knows

Oh and this would be the VegasPete episode that will probably feel the most uncomfortable because it’s really the beginnings of their relationship and even toned down it’ll be quite the experience

Not just for us but for Pete as well

We will probably see Vegas become more attracted to Pete beyond just being intrigued and amused

A Peach Like You - sequel to Peaches ain't Pretty

Peter Parker never considered himself special. Maybe, yeah, having radioactive blood and spider-like abilities makes him different and his vigilante career is out of the norm and fine, yeah, he's on the autism spectrum. Call that "special" if you want. But under all that, he's a regular college student juggling three jobs, an internship, a sad mockery of a social life, and saving the city day and night. The usual stuff.

So when he somehow catches the eye of a blue-eyed mech engineering major with an accent that could turn even Aunt May's brick-hard mashed potatoes to mush, he's only thrown for a minute before he writes it off as a fluke. What could a guy like that see in a guy like him anyway?

Chapter 1: I’m an only child and I’m desperate for attention

Peter’s web-line, tangled desperately between numb fingers, holds as he slams into glass. Air punches from his lungs, but the pane stays intact. He fumbles for his footing, slipping in the smears of scarlet left from his meeting with the window, then begins the slow miserable climb to the ninth floor. His abdomen burns. His head pounds.

He’s not going to pass out. He’s not going to pass out. He’s…

He’s so fired. The pizzas he was supposed to deliver are long gone by now, whether he can remember where he stashed them or not. His boss is going to be furious with him for flaking on his deliveries again. He may have attempted the tried and true ‘It’s not my fault, Mr. Leonetti, I was mugged,’ routine if it wasn’t for all of the cell phones that recorded Spider-Man getting stabbed not two doors down from the pizza shop. He can’t risk anyone making the connection between Spider-Man and Peter Parker.

What was he supposed to do? Not drop everything and strip down to his suit to stop the bodega from being robbed? Not web the clerk out of the way of the stray bullet? Not take the lucky stab between his ribs during his distraction?

Actually, he could have done without that last one. Ned has enough on his plate without having his mess of a childhood best friend slithering through his window every other day with life-threatening injuries.

He breathes a sigh of relief as his fingers curl over Ned’s window sill. His Friend of Spider-Man sense must be tingling because it’s wide open. A strange choice for February, but you won’t hear him whining about his unprecedented change in luck.

He pushes the screen until it pops free of the frame then rolls into the apartment. He lands with a thud on gray carpet and groans as the impact aggravates his stab wound. It’s not until the haze of pain clears enough to see the unfamiliar light fixture above him that he considers how unlike Ned it is to have the window open on a day that’s threatening snow.

Ned hates winter. He hates leaving the window open even a crack and often compromises by stuffing a towel in the crack to keep the draft out because, as much as he hates winter, he loves his best friend more.

As he blinks at the rest of the room, dazed from blood loss, he slowly puts together that this is not Ned’s apartment. It smells wrong for one thing. Like burnt bread and blood (the latter of which, yes, he realizes is his fault), but also there’s a distinct lack of life in this place that’s so contradictory to Ned’s merch and memorabilia-stuffed apartment that for a moment he thinks maybe this one is vacant. No shoes by the door. No pillows on the couch. No DVDs next to the TV. No takeout containers. No books. Nothing.

Other than a mason jar that’s half-filled with odd little trinkets on an otherwise barren bookshelf, the place is lifeless.

Well, nearly lifeless.

In the same moment he decides he ought to haul his broken body out the window and try for the correct window, a tall blond someone wearing a knit sweater and jeans that have been worn soft over time steps into the room waving a towel at the smoke lingering near the ceiling.

The man freezes as they lock eyes.

Oh, mother fudger.

I’m so sorry this took me so long to get too, I just had a hard time trying to pick?!?

I couldn’t choose so now I’m gonna make it everyone else’s problem in this text response.

Like ok, the first that always comes to mind is MAG 65: Binary and MAG 74: Fatigue.

Binary because the thought of an Internet creepypasta being a real actual thing that exists in universe is the funniest thing imaginable.

Also how lovely the story is told! God such a good episode.

But like, there’s also Fatigue which like, keeps popping up in my mind low key only because there was a Uquize that gave you ���what statement giver you are�� and I got Lydia Halligan for ep 74 and it’s stayed rent free in my head so now it’s one of the few episodes that pop up in my head when someone asks.

Also that and you can feel the fact the jonny wrote this sleep deprived, bless.

I also, unfortunately, live in a constant state of fatigue so much relations to be had 😔.

BUT WAIT!!! THERES MORE???

Yes there’s more I love horror.

MAG 177: Wonderland is my absolute #1 fear and actually concern irl so I tend to actually really like and really relate to it? Like my body is in pain a good percentage of my time alive and more things keep popping up that are Concerning!™️ but going to the doctor about it gives me pause because of past experiences. I’ve also straight up broke down when I came home once because of anxiety and the fact that I Hate Being Touched And Doctor Had to Poke And Prod At Me And I Didn’t Like How I Was Spoken Too And So Much More ;-;. It’s just a good episode that Hits, me, in the face, at Full Speed!!!

Other eps I like for no other reason other then “Vibes Hard” are 24: Strange Music, 81: A Guest For Mr. Spider (huh I Wonder Why), 87: The Uncanny Valley (lmao), and 22: Colony (lmao I wonder why that one as well)

Also another I like for funny reasons is MAG 165: Revolutions because of someone on tumblr put the statement to a lowfi beat and it fucking ruled.

There are probably more that I might like more but it’s been a while since I’ve listened as I have the “can’t really pay attention or enjoy anything I like lately if I’ve already heard it before even if I really really really like said thing” disease. Which I believe comes from the depression side of my ADHD :/

(This has also started to effective my enjoyment of new things as well. :( man :( my brain sucks :(...)

So my rule of thumb is, if I remember it and it’s not the first few eps then it’s up there on my list!!! :D (because the first eps are truly sooooooooosososo good!) I also left out any that just had moments I liked after the statements as I wanted to focus on the statements and horror stories themselves! Not just for my undying admiration and love for Asexual King Jon Jarchivist J Jim’s and Martin Kartin Blackwood. Oh how I love them dearly <3

I can however tell you the ep I absolutely can not listen to again tho!!!

No matter how many time I relisten (or attempt to, stupid brain) I can never listen to MAG 6: Squirm ever again! I just can’t! My sex-repulsed ass was already second-guessing listening when I heard the episodes description for the first time. And then it got worse as I listened because EW GOD NO WHY EW. Like ew god the implications??? 😨 like I already think it’s gross but the worms make it more gross and horrifying. I already remember all the relevant information form the first time around! I don’t need another go! thank you! Have a good day!

Also side note, not anywhere near my favorite or least favorite (tho I can still relisten to it, mag 6 is the only one I can’t) but MAG 172: Strung Out scares me. Not in a “I relate to this” kind of way, I have never done a drug in my life and find it to be a waist of my time, hell I don’t even drink for the same reason. (Plus looking at my ADHD and some of my heritage, I’d be much more prone to addiction anyways.) To me it’s a waist of time and money and not something I care for as, surprise! I don’t like losing or being out of my own control! This ep scares me the same way it would probably scare Mr. GhostHunter Shane Madej.

(my) Mag a Week: Grasping Love

Hello there!

I am participating in the "a mag a day" idea by @a-mag-a-day  which is BRILLIANT and I decided to do "statement a week", rolling dice with the characters and fears that were ftw that week in the episodes I have listened.

For today I rolled Archivist!Admiral (so...I turned him into a human being!) and The Corruption (Eps. 81-84).

 Statement begins.

 Elton was always a bit of a  rara avis . He was extremely opened about his feelings except when they were about whoever he was directly talking to. For him, this was the ultimate strategy to be liked by anyone, even  loved : you were honest, but you didn’t offend people and, just like that, everybody is happy.

I used to find all this rather annoying, then, as I realised I was falling for the idiot, endearing and, once I was completely taken by him, annoying once again. In all earnest, I couldn’t differ more from Elton’s point of view: as I see it, the more you know the  cons  of your partner, the more likely you are to truly, deeply realise how much you love them. Imperfection is quite attractive, both physical and sentimentally, if you ask me.

However, as much as it bothered me, I couldn’t say I wasn’t glad he had taken the  coward  approach to most of his personal relationships, since he could have some… controversial  takes on already heated discourses and, obviously, I didn’t want my very first serious relationship to end on me standing over a literal hearse.

That is why I was so deeply scared the day he came in with the biggest grin ever and told me he had very politely asked the xenophobic cashier of the fruit shop right opposite our side of the street to “Fuck Off!”  when he had made the umpteenth joke about the Holocaust while still attending a usual client that, for her expression, Elton deduced wasn’t exactly comfortable with the situation.

I froze in place, remembering how the shop attender was built as if he were a weight-lifting gym teacher instead of a food seller. How wasn’t that stupid man I chose to love not in shambles, more bruise than person?

Curious, I reached for his face and he…took a step away from me. This didn’t surprise me, though, since he had certain boundaries with physical contact, even with me and our closest friends (with his family even more, but that is not the topic of this story, though it could help to understand why he ended as he ended…I think, it is not as if I actually knew why he ended up the way he did). However, he had always appreciated a tender caress on his cheek, so the whole scene didn’t make much sense to me.

Still, I decided not to show my bewilderment, as I was still too worried about his general well-being for starting a proper questioning. Hence, I barely asked if he was alright and he just nodded and said that the man had  sensed  the right thing in the end.

The wording was bizarre at the very least and straight-up worrying come to think about it in more depth even in the slightest. However, I chose not to dig in more. I must admit, I had been working the night shift (I am a nurse in this dire age of absolute Health Care chaos) and my absolute exhaustion outrun any other sentiment or line of thought.

Without even trying to touch him (I was being selfish, for I knew if I did, he could step back again and, then, I wouldn’t be letting it go away that easily and  I needed sleep ) I told him good night-morning and went to bed.

I would have sworn that, as I felt asleep, I heard a chorus of swirling noises coming from the very exact spot Elton had been the previous standing.

I chose, once again in that very unfortunate day, to ignore it and just felt asleep. The last good night sleep I would get in a very,  very  long time. Actually; up to this very date.

 I don’t remember much about the dream itself; just that Elton was on it, trying once again to learn to play the bloody violin on his own and, though he was as terrible as he would ever manage to be, I liked it . I liked the awful sound, the screeching he was clearly enjoying a bit too much. Underneath the skin on my skull I could feel an animated mass moving and making me giggle as it carved into all my tissues.

I woke up sweating, trying to clear out the context in which the actions of my dream had occurred…and came out empty of my own mind. I looked next to me peacefully, but wanting to get up as soon as possible (it was my free day, so I could woke up as late as I could and 9 AM was already pretty late for me)…just to find Elton’s side empty.

He had been sleeping in the leaving room and, our cat…our cat was eating his cheek. I screamed, the animal hissed at me in an almost human manner and run away not without dedicating an extra second to look aggressively between the two of us, almost as if she was…I don’t know how to put it in a precise way…I have the term but…A jealous ex?

Yes, that will do.

I started babbling with disbelieve of what I’ve just witnessed but, clearly in pain, Elton just shrugged and said he didn’t know that was  how cats would react  and that I shouldn’t worry, that he knew a very nice, very proficient plastic surgeon with a side-degree on zoonosis (I guess that is not a real thing, just a figurative speech) that could help him in no time and for absolute no money.

I was suspicious, but also staring directly at the chewed, slightly swelling, completely bloody meat of what had been his cheek, so I just told him there was no way he was going alone. I was driving.

As non-confrontational as always, he just nodded and allowed me to pick the driver’s seat. Somehow, I got that pretty clear: he was  allowing me  to be the one driving the car, even if he didn’t realise himself.

 The thing is, Elton worked as a lawyer of shorts for the BBC, covering all the dingy things a big corporation of cinema and television (and podcasts, but most people tend to forget about that bit) usually has to cover, so his salary wasn’t precisely bad (much better than mine, Miss Top-Of-Her-Cooking-Studies-Currently-Working-At-A-Five-Guys-Because-I-Look-A-Bit-Too-Exoctic-For-More-Important-Kitchens) and he did have a rather good relationship with quite a few plastic surgeons but…for the  way he was speaking, whoever we were going to see was going to operate him in the spot, revise if he had been infected by the goddam psychotic animal and charge him next to nothing.

If I hadn’t been so worried about his well-being, I would have tied him up or something and threat with not letting him go until he explained what on fucking Earth was going on.

Instead, I just stayed put on the car while I saw him enter the most expensive private clinic in the whole London Area. I felt a shiver coming to me: there was something terribly wrong going on and I couldn’t put my finger on it.

 When he came back, a few hours later, his face was covered in bandages and, as he approached the vehicle, Unlikely Chance attacked and my assholish first boyfriend appeared and, as every time he saw me, tried to convince me of how we should absolutely get back together.

He was literally  yelling  through the locked door and I began to feel a very familiar fear I thought would never came back to me. Outside, idiotic, brave Elton saw everything and started to call for the other man. He turned, and was going to punch him right in the wounded part of his face (so original) when…Elton  touched him with one finger and, after muttering some words I couldn’t make out from inside the car, he exchanged a couple of smiles with my stalker and he walked away.

This time, I didn’t hold back the moment I unlocked the doors so he could enter, asking with my most serious voice what the fuck was going on. He, in the most absolutely nonchalant voice imaginable, told me that he had solved the  people-not-getting-along  problem our society had. He held a hand in front of his face and pointed at a bundle of thin protuberances that could be seen twisting under his skin.

“ They help people being more receptive to whatever I say. I won’t need to be scared about what I say anymore ” he smiled and I gulped before asking why then he refused to touch me if this was such a brilliant idea (idea that, days before, I would have refuse to believe and just take the man to a clinic where he could get proper mental help). He just shrugged and said that I was too special to be…he suddenly realised he was about to saw “ to contro l” and became horrified of himself for a second.

A second that I used to get off the car, promising myself to never, ever, come back to him. He could have my things; I could manage on my own. At least, that is what I thought would happen in the mist of the panic attack I was having.

And when I still had my own agenda.

 Two months went by and, as much as I missed Elton, I had already got used to my new single life, being a complete expert as I have always been when it came to dodge uncomfortable questions. Sometimes, I saw someone a bit too complacent and immediately wondered whether that particular individual had crossed paths with my now ex, another  person like him  or was just acting according to an especially docile nature. Most of those times, the hint of under-the-skin thin protuberances that just couldn’t stop moving corroborated my dreadful first instinct.

Then, half into the third month of my  New Life (sort of speak), he appeared at my door and, when I took one step back, he made sure I noticed he was wearing thick construction globes, so I let him in.

He looked healthy, a bit chubbier than I remembered, hair better brushed than when he lived with me and his skin less pale; but, for the rest, the very same man.

Well, there was the detail of the occasional worm-like form crawling underneath his skin but, luckily enough, they mostly chose the part of his face that had been reconstructed and still a bit constricted, so they were less noticeable (now that I come to think about it…was that actually a good thing?).

He was nervous, more nervous that I had ever seen him before, and we were literary born in the same hospital within days of difference. He tried speaking, but he just emitted a screech more expected of a crow than a human, so I told him to sit down  without getting too comfortable while I went for a glass of water.

As stupid as it was, I still cared for him. I still do; as much that I know that I shouldn’t.

 I came back with his glass of water and, as he drank, he explained to me that the people he  helped  (I had to remind myself the mere touch of his skin was an actual real-life version of  Invasion of the Body Snatcher  not to choke him when he dared to declare he had helped people with his  powers ), they weren’t like him. They were just…some sort of vessels that, after a few days, got consumed by the worms he passed on to them (he made a pause, as if I were supposed to be surprised by the final confirmation that the bloody thing beneath his skin were some sort of cursed evil worms). Therefore, he had decided that, as much as he would like to spread his good intentions all around the Globe, he ought to be stopped and…he didn’t believe in himself to do it. He liked the feeling far too much. He had come to ask for my help stopping it, my help  killing him .

I began laughing, hysterically. Even he, at some level, had begun to recognise how fucked up this whole thing was. Fucked up enough to come to his ex-girlfriend and ask her to commit  murder upon him.

No-Fucking-Way.

I was about to stand up and show him the door when he held my arm with one of his hands.

A hand he had hidden underneath the table while I went for his bloody glass of water. Only then I realised the other globe was on the table. Right where I was sitting and I didn’t even notice it…

 I did what I had to with pleasure, even if it wasn’t my pleasure exactly: cutting his toes and fingers and burn him while he still breathed. Apparently, this was the only way the worms won’t be able to find a new host.

The people already infected? The charm would be gone but Death was still a certainty.

This are my last words, I just hope I manage to properly control the fire inside my house, I do really want you to have this, in case it happens again, perhaps you can…inform the authorities of something?

I don’t really know, just as I know I don’t trust Elton actually knew how to end with this plague he had spread all on his own.

  Well, with what I know plus what I could make out of my father’s notes about The Corruption…she did the right thing. As hard as that is…Doing the right, hard thing…What a concept, right?  

Anyways, this was all on the news  and many parasitic sensationalistic shows; including the weird plague of a worm-like parasite that killed of his victims only after they had been acting rather off (but kindly) for a few days.

In other news: since we have managed to make sure this room is out of Jonah’s ears…we have the Leitner, the one that, probably, will help us stop The Watcher’s Crown.  Funny how it was with some stuff my great-grandmother threw away so many years ago…  

It is going to be hard, killing a man embodying my mother while he tries to use how little is left from my father as a catalyser for some fucked-up Apocalypse…I haven’t  even met my parents  together , as a couple, but they have always been friends and using them as puppets in this  game is just beyond twisted.

Of course, I have Melanie, and Martin and Sarah. Which is a funny thing: finding out Gertrude’s great-niece is into this whole shit-show? She’s, er,  cool and a cat person!

Season 3 notes popping off

due to my desire to not completely fail all my classes this year i made myself slow down significantly while listening to this season, and the fact that the other person i'm listening along with had to catch up. We've managed to convert several other people to start listening and its pretty great.

ep 81: what does it even mean to be chosen by one of them? And if he was chosen by the eye. we know Gertrude wasnt? Because she cut the eyes out of the magazines?

ep 82: elias lmao. I understand why people like him so much bahshdhdk i thought he was gonna snitch on Jon but he didnt so he's fine. Ok but how do we think he knew all that stuff. Idk probably just institute connections. I love the fact that the recorder just wants to record stuff randomly bjahsjdhd. Elias feels a lot like Michael in the sense that he knows more than he should and talks in a way that implies he just wants to wait and see how things play out for his own benefit. I understand him knowing the things that happened but his description of her emotions implies something paranormal. Maybe he's connected to one of the entities. Which one I cannot guess.

ep 83: did a file get delivered randomly to the place he's staying at? Probably elias lmao. He thinks the mannequin is related to the stranger. Idk I would believe it.

ep 84: worms? I know he says earth worms but idk. Again? Is she making gordon golems out of trash? Martin popping off. You can tell the statements get to him more that they get to Jon. ok im just putting this here so i have notes for when nicholas gets to this part. It seems like (from jon's conversation with jude perry) that the desolation and the eye are kinda at odds with eachother? like i guess not directly but it seems like they dont really vibe? so how could be with both. Cuz if he has the heat powers and shit then we know he's an avatar of the desolation. but then why does he have so much eye imagery. also he got burned intentionally? like jude did when she went on her monologue about the feeling of burning? but then why did he wear the eye pendant. it stops him from being burned all the way which seems like he's not fully accepting the fire or whatever.

ok so since tma is over i can finally say everything abt all seasons so here are my opinions abt the tma seasons ig

basically i love angst

its also 3am so do with that what you want

best statememts: season 1

s1 has the scariest statements, especially since the first time u listen to it u dont have any info on wtf is going on yet. once the Lore comes in everything starts to make sense and i love that but it Does make it less scary for me

and i mean. the anatomy class?? jane prentiss' statememt?? lost johns' cave??? those are some A+ statements

could also be in part bc in later seasons i paid attention to the meta story wayyy more (since theres just more of it) and the statements just kind of became a background thing for me later on

some statements in s5 are also REALLY good though, especially the spiral doctor david, the plague village, the meat garden and the one with gertrude and gerry

best meta story: season 3

this is sooo hard

i love all of their meta stories too much to decide completely

but i had to choose 😔

i just love how in s3 you start to piece things together and jon is getting superpowers and hhhh its just so fucking good

theres just. some real connections between the statements and jon meets avatars and elias' bullshit gets a Little bit revealed and then u get gerry's info and you THINK you have it all together but you really DONT

theres more i could say but it all ties into the other categories so ill put it there instead

best character interaction: season 3/5

this is a full tie i canNot choose that

both of them have rly nice interactions with The Team but ALSO v nice interactions with avatars, which the rest of the seasons dont have that much

for the Team, they never Really do full teamwork ever but i think in s3 they got the closest to it, especially after the elias confrontation with everyone. especially the parts with tim and jon but also everything about melanie's & daisy's interactions with jon is just. chefs kiss.

and in s5 obviously jon & martin interact with everyone on The Team thats still alive (which it Should since its the last season tbh) and its just so nice that after s4 they were all talking and being rational abt things. love that.

and with the avatars, s3 is i think the first to introduce them as more than Those Weird Evil/Monster people since jon is becoming literally one of them. and theres sooo many cool interactions, i mean jude, mike crew, nikola, michael, daisy again, etc etc its just so fucking cool

and again same goes for s5, they interact with avatars and talk to them like theyre extremely fucked up people but still people and its soo cool. in the earlier parts of the season its also cool to see jon literally distance himself from the avatars again by killing them (only to fail by becoming to pupil oof).

i think with that i might rank s3 a bit higher than s5 actually, just because i loooove the angst of jon talking to these people he thought were monsters before thinking hes becoming like them. im SO here for the angst lmao

best jonmartin: season four

yess s5 had the most Actual canon jonmartin and it has them working through problems together and being in love but like. im always a slut for mutual pining and angst

i literally stop reading fanfics once the characters get together sometimes lmao

i also love the jonmartin in s5 but u know. Pining.

there was also some in s3 & before but yea jon had other things to do so it was less Big

i knowwwww martin Literally kills jon in s5 and yes it did make me cry. BUT.

one of my ABSOLUTE favourite tropes in any media whatsoever is betrayal. any kind of it (except cheating that just sucks). i love it when characters go evil. i love it when they do sth fucked up they shouldnt have. and i ESPECIALLY love the way other characters react to it

i mean theres a reason why hannibal is one of my favourite shows (& why 6x20 is my favourite spn episode but shh)

and s4 has soooo much of that.

i dont rly get the story of s4 tbh its mostly just dealing w the end of s3 for me and thats not doing much for me tbh idk

and i feel so bad for jon because he was literally manipulated into everything but FUCK all those scenes where he has to confront What hes become, and especially the episode with the statement from the woman he met irl and took a statement from.

it hurts but its SO good

im very very glad all that was resolved and apologized for and everything, that actually kind of makes the actual season even better for me since i know its temporary but its still ANGST

best lore: season 3/5

another tie 😔 cant decide between worldbuilding lore and monster lore

s3 definitely has the most worldbuilding lore with all the avatars and rituals and all that. i mean gerry literally gives so much lore in his episode i cant ignore that

its just so nice after so many episodes to FINALLY get some actual information

but also s5 has lore on the actual fears behind the stuff that got explained in s3 so thats ALSO a thing.

season 3. best meta story, best lore & best character interaction. just. yea this one is my favourite

season 4. best angst & best jonmartin. i can barely remember the meta story for that season, i dont think there was rly one outside of dealing w the end of s3? but the angst & jonmartin easily make up for that

season 5. best lore & characters + one of best statement seasons. i didnt add that category but also immaculate vibes. its lowkey tied with s4 too but Monster!Jon is just too good not to rank it in 2nd place

season 1. best statements and also immaculate vibes. this is 100% the scariest season and i rly like that abt it. it doesnt have much of a story yet which makes sense (no lighter for automatic tapes yet 😔) and theres less characters which means i cant put it much higher but when it Does happen its Great

season 2. its definitely good and the supplementals are hilarious but its not on the same level for me as the other seasons. maybe thats just me but i also feel like s2 should have introed jon becoming an avatar more since i already got spoiled but jon asking leitner if hes "one of them" still lowkey came out of the blue for me. plus his character changed so much to the beginning of s3 i was legit shocked to find out in ep 81 that jon was younger than 50 lmao. it IS still a v good season though!!!

Excuse me but I must yell because I’m into a lot of podcasts which have small fandoms or characters that no one talks about and just SCREEEEE. I wanna foam at the fucking mouth with someone. And tumblr is right here so

Shattered Sky: Holy shit, this is only 9 ep long before corona forced them to stop and I really really hope they come back again soon because I love every moment of these stupid characters. YES I have wrote fanfiction about the main cast. Because in just that many episode, the main cast became my favourite poly relationship. You can’t tell me that they aren’t all together. I’m sorry, they are. At the very least, Pretty Baby, the Professor, and Vee were dating then Pashmina crashed into their lives. 

Wait sorry, I’m not done. So in the 1st ep we learn that Vee has animalistic features like sharp teeth and stuff. We also know that they run a clinic for the people in their community at no cost. WELL later on, it’s revealed that those features are caused by a plague that, if survived, partially turns you into a spirit creature. And Vee survived it as a child so they always jump in to help when someone catches the plague.

Dark Dice: Okay, I’ll admit this one is more popular but hey let me rave over my special boy, Iaus Innskeep, who would absolutely murder me if he was real and heard me say that. He is just a beautiful tragic character and just wants his life to stop being so traumatic so he can raise his adopted kids in peace. Like? Best dad? Wish that were me? 

EOS10: WATCH OUT WATCH OUT HERE COMES THE STEEL CHAIR Just end me with this one. I started listening to it in high school around the time my uncle died and it was one of my only sources of solace from my life. Then it disappeared for 3 years. BUT THEN IT CAME BACK AND TOOK ME OUT PERMANENTLY. Beautiful golden scars. Holy shit. Basically, it ends with the main character accepting that he’s queer and though he’s screwed up, he’s not broken beyond repair. ALSO accepting the loss of the person he fell in love with that helped him recognize that. And that helped me accept myself and tie up some loose ends around my own grief over my uncle. I’m doing a bad job of expressing my love for the podcast and it’s characters but this is always on my mind.

 Archive 81: Shh no hush. I already hear you yelling that it’s popular. I’m talking about about specifically Season 1 Ep 2 A Night at An Opera, Season 2 Ep 15 Aurora, Cello, and Season 3 Ep 28 Exist in the place that you are currently occurring. No, this isn’t the only bits I’m obsessed with, but this is the ep where I am ultra lost-in-the-sauce and no one will scream with me. Each of the episodes have cryptic music that makes my heart flutter and if I’m not careful they will send me to another dimension. Suddenly I will have spent 30 min looping the maybe 1 min of audio from the song. I had some actually cryptic experiences with the opera song from ep2 and considering how season 1 ends, well let’s go with I’m still not sure this is just a podcast. As for Aurora, I know every word. I sing it to myself often. There’s something so beautiful and haunting about it. And finally Screeks, oh my dear sweet Screeks, I would kill a man to be serenaded by Screeks.

Oasis Transmissions: This one is pretty new but I listened to the entire 2 seasons in a week. I need to know what happens next. Also, I hope my own writing is as good as this podcast. It’s exactly what I want. Had a nightmare after listening to the 1st couple ep that placed me in the same world 10/10

Wolf 359 - these r the audio diaries of doug eiffle on the USS hephaestus, hes a lazy communication officer who is bffs with the ships ai, hera, and I love her sm. Podcast is super funny and light hearted then it kicks u in the feels bc fuck u. Its amazing though and I would holy heartedly reccomend it

The bright sessions- ok soooo imagine the x men in therapy??? So these r the audio logs of dr. Bright, shes a therapist who specializes in kids and adults with powers trying to live normal live by helping them cope with their abilities and teaching them to control them. This one is super cute and funny and great and one of the leading romances is a gay couple and I'm here for it. Plot is amazing and yes

The penumbra podcast - ok so imagine a detective noire black and white style film... on mars.... and gender doesnt exist... and everyone is bi.... and its amazing. Ok so u follow juno steel, a independent detective on mars who's a fucking bisexual disaster who cant catch a break. This one is a bit on the heavier side but still has its moments and its story and characters r so amazing and yes

Deadly manners - this one is short, its basically a who done it murder mystery thing and while cheesy it's very entertaining and funny throughout! Also very very gay

Archive 81- Ahh hhh ok ok so I have no idea how to explain this but basically it's a horror podcast that starts out following the recordings of this dude named Dave who is tasked with archiving some sketchy tapes for this sketchy company and the tapes have some really fucked up shit on them and then things happen and magic is real and it sucks cuz now u gotta give this payphone ur left hand.... it's really good but very dark and a lil confusing but the third season is so amazing and the ending of the second season is a trip and I love it sm

Girl in space - this girl has been left alone on a giant ship with nothing but an AI to keep her company for years, then all of a sudden she has guest and she must adapt and it's funny as hell and I love all of them so much ah

Bombarded - this is a dnd podcast abt 3 bards attending board school and it's super silly and fun and the music is awesome, the plot is still in the works since it's just sorta picking up but it's a fun listen!

Directive - this one is short, it's a man who loses his job and is unable to find a new one so he takes a job as a care taker for rich ppl on a ship who r all taking a virtual vacation, the only problem being that he cant have any human physical interaction with anyone during his time on the ship. This one just made me cry oops, it's funny as hell at the beginning and then crying

Time bombs - another short one, 3 eps of just some bomb squad peeps doing their job on new years eve, this one is super funny and great and I love it so much and I need more of it now

The strange case of starship iris - ok ok lesbians in space. Yes. So violet liu is in a very shitty situation on a ship in space all by herself with little chance of survival until a woman on another ship makes contact with her and helps her out big time... but is she helping???? This one is super funny and all the characters r super fun and just ahh, it's short and updated whenever it wants but it's worth a listen! And also the government is watching ur every move. It's also gay

The far meridian- the story of peri, an agoraphobic woman who's home one day starts moving some where new every day when she wakes up. She has no control where she winds up but sees it as a chance to search for her brother. She makes friends along the way and slowly learns to understand people and learn their stories then fucking some mind thing shows up and starts fucking with her and it makes me so sad. And more gay

The blood crow stories- in its third season on going, this show is split in three separate stories. Season one focuses on a college student working on his final paper by doing an analysis of some old tapes he found of a boat that sunk in the early 1900s and also demons exist somehow and things take a turn so fast I just ahh. It's also super gay. Season two follows sheriff isaac of blackwell, set in American wild west, hes hunting a killer that seems to be targeting men in his town but things get complicated when they realized the killer has an army. This one is also gay. Season three is in a futuristic syfy setting following a hacker who works at an emergency hotline service, she starts getting freaked out by calls she gets at work and other strange happenings in her life. This too, is gay.

The message- NASA found an indecipherable message, determined to be from space, and assigns a team of scientists to figure out what it means. You follow a woman whose documenting the whole thing on her weekly podcast but things get complicated when they find out the reason no one could decipher the message

Life after- a man who's wife recently died is obsessed with her old social media, voice tree. He listens to all of her posts on loop and has memorized most of them. So what happens when it goes off script. This show is incredibly chilling and amazing, its incredibly sad yet impactful and made me cry help

Arcs pod- a dnd podcast in that's very similar in humor and style to taz with the production and editing of the bright sessions. The show centers around 3 idiots trying to get to this school. The npcs r all wonderful and then dm does an amazing job of setting up scenes and making each npc feel like a well rounded character. And gay

The Amelia project- hey ever wanna fake ur own death??? Well then Amelia project has got u covered as long as u can pay and have a good story to tell. This show is recordings of interviews with people explaining why they want to fake their own death and the explanations range from crazy cults to feeling like a background character! This show is extremely light hearted and fun. Fairly easy listen and its over the top humor and concepts are incredibly entertaining.

Welcome to Night Vale (first podcast I ever listened to, and the only one I listened to for a long time. Mixed radio show/narrative fiction style with a real cozy comforting sort of spooky atmosphere and there are so many E M O T I O N S. Probably THE most well-known, if you haven’t listened yet, definitely give it a try)

The Magnus Archives (you already said this one, but it’s very good horror and everyone should give it a chance. It’s pretty much the flipside of WTNV, with plenty of mystery, intrigue and creeping dread. Don’t let the first 20 or so eps fool you; it isn’t an anthology and the plot spirals deeper and deeper and it gets pretty depressing sometimes actually)

Unwell, a Midwestern Gothic Mystery (You want an explicitly mixed black female wlw lead who gets a Latina gf?? Explicit they/them NB rep?? Spooky queerness?? A haunted small town boarding house with ghosts and weird doors?? And a celery festival?? This one's for you. Oh there's also a cult. So far it's a great balance of uneasy creepiness and good slice of life with a full cast of colorful characters, and the town's name slaps. Mt. Absalom?? Hello?? Has serious moments that will hurt you, too)

Limetown (COMPLETE. short thriller/mystery type, interesting story about an entire small community that goes missing, has a TV series now I think?)

Wolf 359 (COMPLETE. AMAZING radio drama one of my good friends who always recs good things rec’d to me and now I rec to YOU. you won’t regret listening if you like great stories and upbeat sci fi comedies that go horribly, horribly wrong. IN SPACE.)

I Am In Eskew (COMPLETE. Really good casual yet seriously fucked up foray into Lovecraftian psychological horror centering around a living city called Eskew and its horrible and equally despondent occupants and occurrences. Follows two voiced characters whose paths eventually converge. It's sort of depressing and hurt my heart sometimes for the sheer hopelessness, but it's worth the journey.)

The Lost Cat Podcast (Lighthearted horror (yeah it exists) and existentialism revolving around the narrator and his lost cat and many glasses of wine. There are many cats. I mean a lot. If you don't want depressing scary horror but still want to step into a world of kooky spooky Eldritch supernatural stuff and relevant musical interludes per episode, this is the way to go. I'm not very far along but it's a fun time.)

The Bridge (interesting setting and story premise. It’s a whole system of bridges across the Atlantic. come on. oh, but make sure you find the right one. it isn’t the talk show about politics and news)

So I have a magnus archives playlist

I’ve been making a long chronological Magnus Archives playlist for my own amusement (So This Is Basically The Magnus Archives) , but since season 5 is close and my college kicked everyone out i decided to Do Something Unnecessary. 

I have taken painstaking effort to not only properly organize this stupid thing with specific tma episodes, but also have documented the episodes as well as why I included the songs (under the cut). This is my Magnum Opus. I have officially pulled an all nighter to work on this. AND i’m making another playlist with songs that I wanted to keep tabs on in case I end up needing to use them as s5 comes out (here) Spoiler warning obviously

Please send me some songs if you follow the playlist and think they should be on there!

I bold the songs I added most recently. Honestly I recommend listening to the playlist first because its way fun and like referencing this if you really care about it. Please give me song suggestions or alterations!

I didn’t know this was part of a whole carnival themed album when I added it, but I felt that the themes of shedding your skin and worms were relevant enough. Still looking for a good song for the s1 finale tho :/

Immediately after the Worm Attack, Jon realizes he can’t trust anyone in the archives.

Losing My Mind - NA - PoV Jon

Jon makes a lot of mentions of his paranoia thruout this season and I feel it just fits best here

Little Pistols - NA - PoV Jon

Same as above, but its like Really Sad because this one paints the paranoia as much more self-destructive. 

Afraid - MAG 77 - Multi PoV/Sasha

Jon just realized the NotSasha replaced Sashsa. Could be from Sasha or NotSasha or even Jon realizing the implications a shapeshifting creature, just fkcn love the chorus for the whole NotSasha fiasco

Mr Capgras - MAG 78/79 - Sung by the NotThem

Jon’s a huge idiot and the NotThem is Out For Blood 

Bad Bad Things - MAG 80 - PoV Elias; S2 Finale

Bitch boy Murkd Leitner and Gertrude and he’s an asshole for it

Its not overly literal but i think some characters in the song could be interpreted as Leitner and Gertrude, with the POV Elias speaking to Jon. 

I’m Not Ok - MAG 81 - PoV Jon

Georgie pls....help this nasty man

The Cult of Dionysus - NA

Honestly this isn’t very specific at all there’s just a lot more cult activity in this season and this song lines up well with the next few

Rejoice - MAG 89 - PoV Jude Perry/Lightless Flame

this ep is jude’s statement and this is a Good cult song

Bust Your Kneecaps - MAG 67 - PoV Agnes Montague

Keeps with the theme better here than in order with s2. Statement of cafe boy who tried to romance Agnes that one time

Are Things Still Burning - MAG 67/89 - PoV Agnes Montague

You’ll get it.

I’m Gonna Win - MAG 101 - PoV Gertrude or Michael

Really connect this song with gertrude’s Bad Bitch energy and MAG 101 is the episode where we really get a scope of how morally gray she is

But the overall cocky tone of the song is real good for Michael

The Distortionist - MAG 101 - PoV Michael

this ep is Michael’s statement. 

Its kind of hard to tell because of the vocaloid, but the song's character seems to have been pushed and  manipulated into something like Michael. I can see the song shifting from Michael singing about how Gertrude created him into accepting it and them singing at Jon

This is the first time Jon and Martin have seen each other since he woke, and I think really the first time Jon has sought out Martin because he just...wanted to see him

This is Martin’s side of the exchange he and Jon had. This is where he started pushing Jon away (Shot as wily one/only friend), and Peter is making him into the “ruler of everything” aka running the Institute, and just doing his best to go one day at a time until whatever Peter has planned gets done

Catabolic Seed - MAG 125 - PoV Melanie

Honestly, I just really wanted this song for melanie. The Magnus Institute is taking too much out of her, making her into a hollow, and she’s just trying to keep herself together with emotional duct tape

Body - MAG 131 Build Up - PoV Jon

I see this as the culmination of Jon’s survival guilt and desperation to make himself worthy of humanity again. Since he has a healing factor now, he has no sense of self-preservation and is willing to sacrifice his entire body to make himself worthy of humaity.

Couldn’t decide where this goes chronologically, but these in these two eps jon is seriously debating his humanity and disturbed that he even needs to do that

 this fits....somewhere in this season. I believe i see this as Jon singing about Martin’s isolation, but really its just applicable to their whole situation

a fukn EASY one FINALLY. 

THis bitch is Jon asking Martin to blind himself with Jon so they can run away together. Their romantic arcs got me feeling all sorts of ways

I like to see this as the climax of Martin’s Loneliness and his relationship with Peter as well as like the culmination of Peter’s deal with Elias and Martin’s Deal with Peter

Jon Rescued Martin from the Lonely and is finally able to have a purpose and they are allowed to Be Okay

I think that it was good! Really great to watch back to back and hear everything getting fucked up progressively. Troubles and Whitney are the best parts about the show for sure, and they added a whole lot of character to it. The Greater Boston voices i recognized also did a great job. (N is definitely the same N) anyways i think there were a few parts where the audio distortion and unnerving effects went on just a bit too long for their own good (really gross food eating audio in the diner (1/2

2/2) Also zipper scene. Also a scene in the finale overstayed its welcome by about a minute. It adds to the creepy, unnerving nature of the podcast but it eventually feels just a little like padding. I’m excited for whats next as there is a huuuge amount of unanswered questions. Also in general im a sucker for old timey ads and radio shows turned twisted so that had me from the beginning.

Oooh! I am so with you on that last point you don’t even know. And Troubles and Whit are so wonderful, absolutely agreed, although I think maybe my favorite parts ended up being the segments with Donald and Louise? And I’m a particular sucker for the commercial segments too, because I think there’s just something I really love about the combination of old commercials and freaky horror weirdness (possibly a good part of why I loved Archive 81′s The Golden Age so much? Which, if you’re not familiar with it and you enjoyed WTF?, it might be worth checking out Archive 81 in general).

The Narrator part is just incredible. (That ep came out the week after the Greater Boston one where the narrator bailed and I’m STILL not sure how that continuity works or whether there is a continuity that links these two shows or really anything that’s going on in WTF? at all, but I’m super excited to find out.)
