ROTTERDAM — Migrants bused from New York City arrived at a Super 8 motel where residents of the Carman Road business were kicked out Tuesday.
The sudden displacement of the motel guests, some of them indigent, caused a stir Wednesday among local officials outraged that people confronting poverty were seemingly left without living quarters to make way for the new arrivals.
The motel is the latest Capital Region business to offer housing to migrants bused from New York. The town of Colonie went to court after the first group arrived in May at a motel in town. New York City buses then brought migrants to two hotels in Albany. It is estimated that more than 400 migrants have been brought to Albany County, but Tuesday’s development appears to be the first time there were plans to house them in a Schenectady County community. Officials said New York City signed a contract with the Super 8 to allow migrants to live at the motel.
Rotterdam Town Supervisor Mollie Collins said a Schenectady County official told her the migrants arrived from Texas to New York City before going to Rotterdam. She said there were still questions about whether the motel stay was temporary, how long the migrants had been in the U.S. and their immigration status.

“There are so many questions we have,” Collins said. “Because we haven’t been given any information.
“You have to remember this is a humanitarian effort,” she said later. “It’s human beings and you can’t lose sight of that.”
But officials with New York City Mayor Eric Adams' office late Wednesday afternoon said the guests at the Super 8 Motel who were being displaced had all been offered free “extended stay” lodging at a comparable hotel nearby. They did not immediately clarify the details of that offer or how long an “extended stay” would last.
Motel management has for two days declined to speak with reporters.
On Wednesday, security guards roped off the parking lot to the motel. A couple people drove by offering food or clothing. Others shouted in anger from passing vehicles. That morning, town codes department workers conducted a scheduled fire inspection at the building.
Later in the day, groups of people left the motel to shop at the nearby gas stations. One group said they were from Peru, Venezuela and Colombia. Speaking in Spanish that was later translated, one man said they were there to build a future for their children.
Schenectady County had not expected to receive migrants from New York City. County Manager Rory Fluman said most of the hotels in the county are at capacity, including facilities the county uses in Schenectady to house people in need.
“We’re being told they are all asylum-seekers,” Fluman said Wednesday. For part of the year, the Super 8 houses people who received assistance from the county’s Department of Social Services. Fluman said none of them were living at the motel when the guests were asked to leave Tuesday.
In the spring, New York City began busing migrants to upstate communities after the city’s social service system was overwhelmed by the mass arrival from Southern states.
New York City has promised to pay for migrant housing for anywhere from a month to a year. Fluman said he expected the migrants would eventually seek help from the county’s social services system.
Caught by surprise
The state assemblyman who represents the area decried the secrecy surrounding the situation and displacement of the longtime residents of the motel. The actual number of those forced out was not known.
In a statement released late Tuesday, Assemblyman Angelo Santabarbara accused Adams of “thoughtlessly sending buses with migrants to (the) Super 8 Motel in Rotterdam, completely disregarding the fact that many of the individuals already residing there were struggling with poverty themselves and are now displaced. I am absolutely outraged by what has transpired.”
Local officials were caught by surprise by the upheaval at the motel. Schenectady County government officials were silent for hours after guests were told to leave the motel, but released a statement late Tuesday confirming, “a local motel contracted with the city of New York to host a group of asylum-seekers.”
U.S. Rep. Paul Tonko echoed Santabarbara’s sentiment, criticizing Adams' administration for not communicating ahead of the arrival of migrants. “It’s never acceptable to kick families and long-term residents to the curb with mere hours’ notice,” the Amsterdam Democrat said.
Town officials seemed equally surprised no one involved in New York City’s efforts to find housing for migrants informed them of the pending arrivals.
Santabarbara said he and others learned of the arrivals “through the rumor mill. This level of disrespect and blatant lack of concern for our community by forcing this situation on us without notice and zero communication is unforgivable. The federal government must take action to put an end to this chaos.”
A spokesman for the mayor’s office said New York has opened 185 sites to serve the 90,000 migrants and ran out of space, saying in a prepared statement that New York isn’t asking Schenectady County and other governments to manage the migrants or cover the cost of their housing. The statement did not address concerns about the Adams administration’s alleged failure to communicate with local officials nor that the motel kicked out residents to make way for the migrants.
Late Wednesday afternoon, a spokeswoman for Adams' office said the private contractor they are using to relocate migrants had offered guests at the Super 8 Motel alternative lodging arrangements at no cost.
“Guests at that hotel were all offered to be relocated and booked for an extended stay at a comparable hotel in the same area free of charge,” Adams' office said in a statement. “All but one reservation took our contractor up on that offer and instead preferred to be re-booked at the comparable hotel on a daily basis, which we facilitated.”
Offering help
Mike Saccocio of the City Mission of Schenectady said he was prepared to help with any effort to find emergency housing for the people who have been displaced.
Saccocio said all of the organization’s housing was occupied but they were ready to “put down mats” like they do on frigid nights when people need emergency shelter.
“We’re prepared to do our part,” he said Wednesday morning.
Guests were told they had to leave Tuesday morning. A sign posted in the lobby said the motel was closing and that longtime guests had 60 days to pick up their cash deposits. Alicia Cartland had lived at the motel with her 17-year-old daughter and 14-year-old son since October due to its affordable rates and proximity to her job at the local Taco Bell. Cartland said she and her children had just hours to pack up their belongings and find a new place to live.

I have a neurocardiogenic syncope so for awareness I thought I would share my experience with this South Park one-shot of Eric Cartman, who has POTS
"You know, that oral presentation on theology is due today right?" Stan asked Cartman.
"What!? I thought we had like another week on that!?" He shouted as he slammed his locker shut.
"Uh, no Mx.Garrison said it was due today like two days ago. Don't you remember?" Kyle asked and took out his history binder and textbook.
"No xie didn't!"
"Yeah, xie did. Xie said: class be sure to have the presentation ready by Wednesday because it's due this Thursday, which is today. Remember when xie said that, Cartman?" Kyle said, patronizing him.
Carman blinked at him before rolling his eyes, "Whatever, I'll pretend to puke in the waste bin and run to the nurses office. Then I won't have to do the stupid project."
Kyle huffed at him before walking into class,"Idiot."
The students took their seats as Mx.Garrison started the class. Xe called up Craig who did a presentation on Inti the Incan Sun God of Peru. The presentation was pretty long. Craig faced his back to the class and read off of his poster. Cartman groaned in boredom as his dull voice droned on and on. As he sat the room started to feel too hot. He slipped off his coat and looked around, no one else looked uncomfortable. He leaned against his hand and waited for his turn.
When Craig was finally finished he looked back at the class, "That is the end of my presentation on Inti the Incan Sun God of Peru." He started to walk back to his desk when the teacher stopped him.
"Wait, Craig you need to ask the students if they have any questions," xie instructed.
Craig sulked and sighed, "does anyone have any questions on Inti the Incan Sun God of Peru?"
"Do your parents worship Inti?" Bebe asked.
"No they do not, my parents are white and not from Peru."
Bebe blinked at the tan skinned Peruvian kid, "I mean your real parents."
"They are my real parents?" He cocked his head.
"I thought you were adopted?"
"Why do you think tha-, "
"Okay that's enough. Eric your up, where is your poster?" Mx.Garrison interrupted.
Cartman blinked up at hir, " Um, I left it at home."
"That's fine you can do your presentation without it and turn the poster in tomorrow morning."
"Aw man." He mumbled. He stood up and leaned his weight against the desk. It was hard to stand up. 'Work you stupid legs' he thought to himself. When he got to the front, Kyle eyed him and waited for his grand gross performance. Instead, Cartman stood there quietly. Mx.Garrison looked down at him, giving a disgruntled look. His body broke out into an uncomfortable sweat and his arms started to shake. Kyle noticed his face went pale and how he was breathing weird.
"Eric?" Xie pressed.
Cartman tried to walk away but his legs gave out instead, causing him to suddenly stumble and crash onto the floor with a thud.
"Oh my god! Cartman fainted!!" Stan cried out and pointed.
"Cartman you can't just pretend to be sick for every presentation you forget about." Xie scolded. Carman didn't move. He felt so lightheaded and god he was sweating bullets. A small puddle formed under his arms as he went in and out of consciousness.
"I don't think he's faking it." Kyle walked up to him and Kenny followed him. Kenny grabbed a ruler and poked Eric's back with it. Cartman blinked at Kyle.
"What are you doing?" He whispered.
Eric gave him a disoriented look as Kenny's jabs kept him conscious.
"Quit it asshole," he mumbled at Kenny, his speech slurred as he spoke. He winced at the bruise on his arm, he wondered if he broke it.
Mx.Garrison took away the ruler from Kenny, "You two, help Eric to the nurse's office. You can do your presentation for me tomorrow before school, Eric."
Kyle grunted under Cartman's weight as he managed to get him to walk. Kenny opened the door for them and followed them down the hall.
"I think I'm gonna puke for reals." Cartman groaned.
"Don't you dare." Kyle sneered. They managed to get to the nurses office.  Carman immediately took off his shirt and pants and laid on the cold hard floor.
"What's going on here!?" Mary cried out shocked at the sweaty half naked boy.
"Be painted!" Kenny said through his hoodie and pointed at him. Mary got down next to him.
"Come on kid, sit up for me."
He moaned in pain before he was pulled up. He sat up and looked at the teacher as she spoke to him. He couldn't hear her through. There was a ringing in his ears and his vision grew blurry and fuzz. It was like his eyes were TV static. He stared blankly at the floor. It was a long minute before he was able to see clearly. The ringing in his ears left him. He blinked at Kenny who was holding a water cup to his face.
"Hold on Jenny, I need to get a temperature," She moved Kenny aside and got to him. She took the temperature and looked at it.
"No fever. You can go to your next class when the bell rings!" She said with a smile. Cartman downed the water cup. Kenny trashed it and scampered off to get another one, feeling like a little nurse.
Cartman's jaw dropped, "Are you shitting me right now?"
She ignored him and walked off to another kid. Kenny came back with water and gave it to Cartman. "That's enough Kenny! Are you trying to waterboard me?" He whined and sipped the water.
"What's gotten into you?" Kyle asked.
Cartman thought for a moment and looked at the wall. He was still a little dazed. He looked back at Kyle with all the seriousness in the universe.
"Demons."

Hello all, random rant time, but Cartman 100 % deserved what happened to him in the altered post-covid timeline. I'm so fucking tired of people being like "oh he didn't deserve it he went back in time to fix his mistake even though he thought he could loose his family 🥺" like for one do yall realize what his "mistake" was because let me remind everyone the first and only idea to solve this problem was to KILL KYLE WHEN HE WAS A CHILD instead of idk, maybe choosing to go back and stop Kenny from time traveling in the first place or any infinite number of better ideas. Now, let's say for whatever reason they can only go back in time to when Kenny originally wanted to go, then I can 100% assure you killing Kyle would have had just as much of a major effect on (at the very least) Cartman's future that covid had so that idea should've already been out the window.
Also another point POSTCOVID CARTMAN FROM PART 1 AND POST COVID CARTMAN FROM PART 2 ARE 2 COMPLETELY DIFFERENT PEOPLE although they are both "Cartman" they have lived 2 completely different lives from the first covid vaccine onwards PART 1 Cartman left south park and became a better person PART 2 Cartman stayed in South Park and had all his narcissistic sociopathic tendencies amplified and fueled in some way or another to put all this into perspective let's just list some of the crimes he has committed in both timelines:
1: He organized for the murder of 2 people, cut them up, cooked them and then proceeded to feed their remains to their child in the form of chili
2. He snuck into Kyle's house and gave him HIV
3. He's put his 🥕 in butter's mouth while Butters was blindfolded and unaware
4. He's put Butters 🥕 In his mouth while Butters was sleeping
5. Both directly and indirectly bullied a girl so much that she tried to off herself
6. Directly bullied a boy so much that he successfully offed himself
7. Poisoned and kidnapped a kid, handcuffed him to a flagpole, and said he wouldn't get an antidote till he sawed off his own leg
8. Using sharp claws, beat the shit outta like a 3 year old in an airport
9. Put bombs in a hospital and threatened to set them off
10. The many, many, many times, he attempted to eradicate all the jews
And a large variety of other crimes I don't feel like listing or might not even remember right now. Point is he, without a doubt, is a very bad person who deserves what he got in the second part of the post covid ending (whether he changed as a person or not)
For a full list of Cartmen's crimes both major and minor check out this ➡️ https://im-lucky-to-know.blogspot.com/2013/08/eric-cartman-of-south-park-has.html?m=1 or this ➡️https://villains.fandom.com/wiki/Eric_Cartman
TL;DR Post Covid Carman from part 1 and 2 are to completely different people and part 2 cartman definitely did not change or grow as a person enough to deserve a better ending

Cartman and Helga Pataki are my favorite childhood characters, my idols who gave me my childhood (Antiheroes/Antagonists/villains) from different universes. It would be great if they became presidents, lawyers, or politicians in the future. They are both very smart, cunning and interesting personalities. If they existed in reality, I would be the first person to interview them or asked for an autograph.
As for me, both of them deserve a good future and fate, despite their bad temperament. It was from them that much depended on the storyline and humor.
