i have decided that essek's sense of humor is just straight up lying like he just lies for fun and lets people run with it. its the most like senseless lies too no he has never had a cherry in his life and yes of course he has been to the moon but he is so quick and sure with it & its essek cmon he doesnt lie when it isnt about war crimes duh ! so ppl just buy it & he most of the time just lets ppl run with it forever (that is of course if you miss caleb's inconspicuous lil smile he gets when he does so but then again when is he not smiling when essek's around.)

had a long drive this weekend and had a lot of time to think about things — one of those things has been this brainworm:

A series where fjord and jester get stocks set up in a room on one of their boats

perhaps Fjord and Jester end up fighting off a pirate ship that tries to fuck with them and stealing their set of stocks from the dungeon. Jester is all gung ho on using them as their ‘torture chamber’ so they can prank mean pirates and get them to confess where their treasure is

Jester deserves to have stocks!!!

one where she shows them to Caleb - she gets him to sit in them even though he’s like hmm this seems like a bad idea and she’s like no no it’s fine I just wanna show you them really quick — and then tickles him

one where she shows them to Essek and gets him to try them out too, offers to help him with his spellcasting

and / or one where after showing them to Caleb she comes upon him and Essek in the room using them and she’s like omg omg omg you GUYSYSSSS and they’re like no we’re- we’re studying! It- it was an idea to help with concentration and casting focus!

Jester immediately offers to be both of their concentration coaches and insists she needs to build a second set of stocks so they can study together

one where Beau insists she’d never break under torture especially something as silly as tickling and jester invites her to try

afterword Beau is like fuck you next time you’re going in there and jester is like Yes How About Right Now Please :) and hops up

she invites Kingsley to try them out for another one perhaps, maybe also one where she invites Kingsley to help her get fjord or Caleb in them bddhfjfjgk

a lil teaser of THOTS on how it's gonna go for ur lov and patience:

- jester: absolutely decides shes esseks new bff (shes not wrong). does in fact offer to peg essek, but not the first time they meet she has manners caleb!! (its the second time they meet, and even tho essek expects it he still chokes on his spit and how forward she is). shes also incredibly nosey about esseks health, given she is in the medical field directly herself, which essek both hates and finds refreshing (its so much easier to explain his health to someone who has the bg knowledge)

- veth: immediately shovel talks essek, then basically adopts him when essek gets all prim and proper and politely mean "id like to see you try" and veth is like okay youve got teeth you can protect my boy too im counting on you heres a toddler (luc is delighted by esseks ability to make things float and essek is delighted by the fond looks he gets from caleb over veths shoulder)

- fjord: dubious at first but warms up to essek when essek relaxes enough to join razzing caleb. definitely warns essek about the impending pegging offer from jester, promises to distract her if shes overwhelming

- caduceus: is the one to spot essek flagging at the neins holiday party, sits with essek as caleb is distracted catching up with the rest of his friends as quiet company "its good to see him happy"

For the wip ask game, I'm very intrigued by the emergency contact au! Is it gonna be tense? Is it gonna have.. emergencies?? 👀👀👀

Hi, it took me a while to reply to this because I wanted to round up all the other posts I made about this au and, as we all know, Tumblr's search function might as well not exist.

But I did it! I talked about it here, here, here and here.

The reason there are so many posts about it is because I started writing it shortly after the c2 finale and it's been a wip since then. Sometimes I think about it, add a sentence or two, refine a plot point. It's basically my comfort au. I have rewritten the first chapters at least twice. I don't think I'll ever finish it, or at least not soon, but it's very much in progress by the strictest definition of the word.

(The reason it's called emergency contact au, in short: Caleb and Essek used to be married and Essek is still Caleb's emergency contact. It was a vibe-only au that became a plot-heavy one while I was writing it, but the brainworms sprouted from their canon 'break-up'; I don't consider it a fix-it fic even though they absolutely get back together.)

vasselheim!!! i doubt it will be a major location again for a full campaign because it was featured so heavily in c1 but an exu type deal could be so cool!!! i thought that vasselheim was SO underutilized in c1. when i was first watching it i was Big Sad that the no arcane magic thing was played for laughs, you could easily center a whole campaign around that idea. i wanted to see more of it during c1 and obvs after exu calamity i want to see more of it Even More. theres just so much to learn about it after the context of exu calamity. like i want inside information about the political system. i want to explore how decisions get made there. and like bro do u want a story about Hubris??? oh yeah??? you like critical role so are you perhaps a Hubris Enjoyer??? perhaps of the Magic User Variety?? imagine a wizard or a warlock trying to hide their magic in vasselheim. it basically writes itself. imagine a high-ranking cleric as a pc. or a noble. based on what's happening in c3 do you think they have like. an Old Secrets Protection Board? and perhaps some Scholar Spies trying to break in? idk man there's so much you can do there and i would like to See It Please Thank You

i have like 7 animatics in my head that i am not talented enough to make but honestly. this whole jester-focused animatic set to folding chair by regina spektor. it’s really good in my head i swear. also a post c1 animatic set to dodie's cover of blackbird which has been in my head since i finished c1 god i have actual brainworms

25-What class do you most want to see Matt play if he is in a future EXU campaign as a new (not Dariax) PC?

artificer. primarily bc as much as i love him, matt’s pcs tend not to be my kind of character. at least in cr oneshots he’s got a thing for the Generic Edgy Protagonist Boy type which i’m sorry buddy but like. no thanks. and based on artificer/engineer type npcs he’s played i doubt he will go for that archetype as a pc. matt loves some Insane Scientists and so do i, easy S tier character trope, so whether he plays it straight or goes for the more unhinged type like most of his npcs im down 100%. also i had a whole rant here abt how much i love dariax and i hope that matt continues to step out of his comfort zone for pcs because for me personally i think it works really well!!

39- favorite parental figure NPC?

I HAD A WHOLE RANT HERE ABT HOW MUCH I LOVE MARION LIKE I THINK I WROTE LIKE 300 WORDS. the gist of it was how i love that she is very much an imperfect parent which we can see in jester now, but she’s still a good parent!! she’s still trying!!! she’s got her own trauma but she’s trying!!! idk that is v important to me. also i love how she is a sex worker and is not shamed for it at all. and that she has agoraphobia (sp?) and its treated as like!!! fine and not irrational at all!!! idk man idk how matt and laura did such a good job with such a respectful and grounded portrayal of a character like marion but they DID also parent trap ftw

sadly i cannot think of any other characters so i have to talk about Mr. Warcrimes McTreason. i like canon essek okay though i do think he is Overhyped, but fanon essek is so annoying lmao which makes me not particularly like him. on the other hand i think people not liking him bc they don’t think he deserved redemption are Wrong. as a redemption arc it was like. Fine. not everyone can pull a zuko and like. whatever. and idk i think that redeemed heroes should be a little morally dubious. as a treat. i guess in a way i am glad that aeor arc essek doesn't get to actually be morally gray bc the fandom would be insufferable but Hot Take i am a Gray Morality Enjoyer i think that More protags should be war criminals actually.

thinking of the recurrent theme of gaining weight as a show of healing and being alive and well in cr2 (veth going from a rail thin goblin to a plump halfling, cad being describe as unhealthily thin when we first meet him (his hair going from pastel pink to whiting to bright healthy pink too));& just ..... essek getting a bit of a tummy post canon from learning to bake & by never turning down place at the nein's tables.... just... love is food is community... aka "loves starts at the kitchen table" and "i want us both to eat well" type of beat.. many feelings.
