Salman Khan’s Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan Box Office Collection for Eid Release May Not Breach Rs. 15 Crore on Day 1

After four years of interval, Salman returned onscreen on Eid with the film Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan. On the opening day, the movie did well among the mass circuits. However, it could not garner much response from the audiences going to multiplexes. Given the early figures, the movie will perhaps gross somewhere between Rs 13.75 crores and Rs 15 crores on day 1.

But this is way below earlier released on Eid for Salman Khan’s films. Bharat, his Eid’ last released film opened at Rs. 42.30 crores. Reports reveal that compared to multiplexes the mass market has shown a better response. Also, no metro city apart from Hyderabad has got a sizeable footfall in theatres. Hyderabad is still returning stable revenue probably because of the involvement of Venkatesh Daggubati in the movie.

As per a trusted source, the family entertainer recorded only 15.33% for Hindi occupancy. Since Eid falls on Saturday and people traditionally watch Salman's flicks during the holiday. This could pick up during the weekend. According to Bollywood Hungama, the movie is anticipated to increase by 75–100% on Saturday and Sunday, earning a respectable sum overall.

So far this year, only a few movies have impressed the blockbuster chart, with Ranbir Kapoor’s Tu Jhoothi Main Makkar drawing Rs. 147.12 crores, SRK’s Pathaan grossing Rs 543.05 crores, and humble Rs. 21.17 crores for Rani Mukerji’s Mrs. Chatterjee Vs Norway. But there were high hopes for Salman Khan’s Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan, which has not accumulated much to date.

Another trend that we have witnessed in the first quarter of the year is the underperformance South films’ remakes. Two such examples are the films Selfiee of Akshay Kumar and Shehzada of Kartik Aaryan. Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan is also of the remake genre. It is based on the movie Veeram and we are to see how the audience reacts to it further.

This year the Eid will be a little extra zesty and special. The makers of Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan have released yet another chartbuster dance number, Balle Balle, from the album of their film, and it’s sure to make your Eid a lot more festive.

Balle Balle, the lovely and lively celebration number’s teaser was released a day prior to its release and it has since been creating waves. Shot in and at a grand scale, the sets for the song are perhaps the grandest that we have seen so far. Every single song from Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan has had one thing in common and that’s the grand scale of their set-up, but Balle Balle takes the centre stage among all. With a lot of attention been given to the aesthetics of the song, Balle Balle leaves an aftertaste of grand celebrations and zest in you.

Salman Khan looks dashing as usual in the song with a few more unique and truly Salman-ic dance moves added to his repertoire of dances.

Music for Balle Balle is composed by Sukhbir. Kumaar is the lyricist, with choreography by Jani Master and the background vocals are by Sukhbir.

Simmba (2018)

Only hardcore cinema-goers and those who speak Hindi have heard of Simmba, an Indian Action/Comedy/Drama/Crime film possibly showing in a theater near you. It's well-intentioned but hopelessly tone-deaf and might play better in its home country… where its ideas may (or may not, I’ve never been there) come off as new and revolutionary. In North America, this is dated and even unintentionally sinister.

Sangram ‘Simmba’ Bhalerao became a police officer not to enforce the law, but to collect bribes and abuse his power. While relishing in his new position in a busy, crime-riddled precinct, he becomes infatuated with Shagun Sather (Sara Ali Khan) and immediately sets to impress her. He happily ignores the scolding stares of inspector Bajirao Singham (Ajay Devgn) while collecting millions from criminal overlord Durva (Sonu Sood) until a tragedy suddenly affects him personally.

A character who exploits the people he’s been charged with protecting creates natural interest. Will he realize the error of their ways? If he does, why? If not, it’s an opportunity to explore a black soul, to see how we resemble and differ from each other. The problem with Simmba is the way the redemption is executed.

Initially, this is a breezy picture. You never see crooks do anything truly nefarious. Everything’s played for over-the-top laughs with needlessly elaborate police takedowns which include slow-motion martial-arts kicks and slapstick. Your eyebrows begin to raise when Simmba begins approaching Shagun. He blackmails someone into terrorizing her until she calls the police and asks that he stay by her side for protection. It’s creepy but exists in a realm of its own. Good writing could save the day. 

Then, things take a wrong turn. Simmba learns someone close to him was brutally and repeatedly raped before dying of her injuries. Those responsible are criminals he's been working for. Now he understands his blind eye has a price.

The spark which ultimately burns this production down comes when you realize Simmba was made during a fit of juvenile rage. Ultimately, it isn’t interested in justice and flawed characters self-reflecting on their actions. Simmba's redemption can only be found through bloodshed. “Kill them all! Due process?! Pfah!” It’s particularly disturbing in the wake of India's WhatsApp fake news stories which lead to mobs lynching innocents. Ultimately, movies are just movies. They're not responsible for the actions of their audiences. Nevertheless, this is downright irresponsible.

This spinoff of the Singham franchise (which I admittedly haven’t seen) has charming moments. Ranveer Singh's charismatic even when his character's utterly despicable. Sara Ali Khan's likable, though she basically disappears halfway through. The dance and musical sequences (which thankfully go away once the rape plot comes in) are impressive. That second half, where it gives lip service to preventing violence against women by fully endorsing murder? It's simply unforgivable. (Original Hindi with English subtitles, January 20, 2019)

Bhool Bhulaiyaa Starring Akshay Kumar And Vidya Balan To Have A Sequel Now And It Will Be Helmed By Farhad Samji

In 2007, Bhool Bhulaiyaa has released and we have loved the performances of Akshay Kumar, Vidya Balan and Shiney Ahuja in it. Now producer of the movie Bhool Bhulaiyaa, Bhushan Kumar has been planning to do a sequel. The original movie has been directed by Priyadarshan. However, Farhad Samji will be helming the movie this time. According to our source, “Bhushan wanted to make a part 2 of Bhool Bhulaiyaa for a while now and has cracked an idea with Farhad Samji, who will be writing and directing the film. It is in the development stage and will feature a fresh cast. Once the final script is locked, the team will kick off casting and other pre-production formalities.”  

Stellar performance has been given by Vidya Balan in Bhool Bhulaiyaa as a woman who has been suffering from dissociative identity disorder. Bhool Bhulaiyaa is actually a remake of Rajnikanth starrer 2005 movie Chandramukhi. There has been a Malaylam movie also based on the story named Manichitrathazhu starring Shobnaa and Mohanlal.

By Bhushan Kumar, the movie has been registered already. Writer turned director Farhad Samji has been roped in for the movie also. Previously, Farhad Samji has also directed Housefull 4 after Sajid Khan has to leave the movie due to #MeToo Movement. Housefull 4 is multi-starrer with Akshay Kumar, Riteish Deshmukh, Bobby Deol, Rana Daggubati, Kriti Sanon, Pooja Hedge and Kriti Kharbanda. Release of Housefull 4 is scheduled on Diwali, 2019. As a writer, Farhad Samji is also working on the remake of Coolie No. 1.
