Alright if I'm gonna look like a loon (moon ref) about some Aaravos ideas then at least I'm not alone now, LESSGO

Before we get confirmation on the actual title of 605, I wanna share the idea that I haven't been able to shake since "Moonless Night" became a possibility. Because let me tell you, when someone found those words, my gut dropped down a black hole and I wasn't sure why.

I mean, I can kind of guess why. It's the middle episode of the season. Multiple people have said it has wrecked them just to work with it. On that detail alone, I think we can guess who wrote it. And Devon's episodes always hurt me the most (affectionate)!

Why is the concept of a Moonless Night so scary? Lots of reasons come to mind this late in the show. The moon is the primal source for several characters in the show. It's a source of light and normalcy at night. And nights without moonlight are extremely dark. We all know this deep in our DNA already.

We could get Ruthari angst - Runaan suffering without the moon in his coin, trapped in darkness. Ethari suffering without Runaan and the hope and love he brought to his life.

Maybe it's Rayla struggling during a new moon, unable to do her usual moon powers in a clutch moment.

Maybe it's about the stars themselves being all the light that is, and how that's really not much and things are dark and powerful without the balance of other arcanums.

Maybe it's some or all of these.

But here's the thought that won't let me go: Fayla.

From what we think we know, Callum and Rayla get to the Starscraper in episode 4. We've seen images on promotional material, and etc.

But what's troubling me is the bits we got from NYCC attendants last fall, about how in the first episode the pearl is mysteriously empty, and Aaravos is somehow missing from it.

Where has he gone? Is he in Callum somehow? Is he doing things to his brain while he's awake, instead of giving him weird dreams?

And then there's the new twitter podcast account, Banter Lodge, posting a new Dear Callum letter yesterday.

No idea if this is fan-made or a sneak peek yet. But this is what tipped me into "holy shit" territory, because consider this with me for a second:

This letter makes it look like Rayla didn't go with Callum somewhere.

What if that somewhere is the Starscraper.

What if Callum gets all the way there and does all the things he does, and he doesn't realize until he's in the middle of the starry darkness that Rayla was never with him at all, and he has no moon at his side.

Fayla. Fake Rayla.

If his companion, all along, is Aaravos in Rayla's guise, nudging him toward wherever he wants Callum to go.

If he cannot outmatch Callum's love and trust for Rayla, he will simply shift the narrative and become that trusted source. Then, he thinks, Callum will do whatever he wants.

Sleep tight.

The Child

While I was watching “Maternal Instincts,” something that I’ve not seen asked anywhere else nagged me a lot: Why did Hope knowing Solan’s name give her away as being his killer?

Directly after Hope related Callisto’s threat to Xena, Gabrielle pushed the girl into a chair and then took a whole two steps away from her before both Xena and Kaleipus name-dropped the boy.

So, I wonder why Hope didn’t think to answer her mother’s question with, “Because you, Xena, and the centaur said so right in front of me! Don’t you remember? I was trying to leave, but you went out of your way to give me a front-row seat to that discussion!” Okay, I’m joking a bit with the last part, but still. That was not remotely the right point for Gabrielle to lose faith in Hope. Beyond the obviousness I’ve just laid out, Callisto is the one who supposedly said she’d take Solan to the grave; as far as any of the good guys knew, Hope had no reason to hurt the boy. She only remembered being alone in the basket, nothing about Xena at all, according to what she told Gabrielle. Yes, she cries, “Xena hates me!”, but that could be taken as a response to Xena’s “shoot the messenger” glare upon hearing that Solan was set to die, even why the girl disappeared after hearing the conversation about Solan.

Personally, I think Gabrielle’s realization of her daughter’s guilt was much better set up earlier in the episode: Given the look on her face upon seeing him and her shifty eyes while he lay dying, she knew in an instant that Hope had attacked Kaleipus. And when she burst into her hut after that, she shouted “Fayla!” not with worry in her voice, but frustration. Then she covered her face as if to ask, “What have I done?”

It’s too bad that our battling bard was so quick to invalidate what she knew in her heart to be true. Sigh. T_T Her denial… hope? …is literally killer, many times over. (Like when she tried to say someone else broke through their barricade and killed Goewin but left Hope alone, when Hope is the only one anybody—particularly Goewin’s fellow knights, the only other possible suspects—wanted dead.)

I’m also surprised Xena wasn’t as quick on the uptake about Kaleipus’s assailant as Gabrielle was. Only they, he, and Hope knew about the plan to hide Solan in the Ixion Caves. None of the good guys could have known, at that point, that Hope had returned to Callisto. And Callisto couldn’t be in two places at once, anyway, as she warned our ladies… Tsk tsk. (The script went too far, though. Kaleipus practically gasped, “Hope!” when he would only have known her as Fayla, if anything. Nevertheless, Xena should have picked up on his dying message in a second. Who else would “The child!” have been? Solan? Xenan?) Aish.

TL; DR:

Hope: She knows your little secret, and she’s gonna take it to the grave.

Xena, in front of Hope (thanks to Gabrielle): Callisto knows about Solan!

Kaleipus, also in front of Hope thanks to Gabrielle: Doesn’t matter! Bottom line is protecting Solan!

Gabrielle to Hope later: I will take you to the safest place there is.

Hope: *brought to a hut where exactly one other person is hiding* Gee. Who could this be? -> *“realizes the boy’s dead”* -> *runs* -> (to Gabrielle) I don’t want to die like Solan.

Gabrielle: How did you know that was Solan?! Die, evil demon-child!

Me: …Wut?

After looking at the trailer for season 4 and all of the promotional material to come out recently I had a thought about what Aaravos may do to make Callum his puppet. 

My theory is that in episode 8 or 9 Rayla or Fayla, Ezran, Callum and Soren will reunite with Claudia, Viren, Aaravos and Terry. During this reunion and confrontation they will gain Viren’s magical coins that are trapping Runaan, Lain and Tiadrin. Rayla is a mixture of relieved, worried and afraid as she doesn’t know how she’ll get them free or who is powerful enough for her to turn to. 

And that’s when Aaravos makes his move on Callum. Because Rayla is one of his greatest weaknesses and the best tool that Aaravos could use to get Callum under his control. So Aaravos quietly or secretly tells him that he can do it, that he can set them free. Callum initially refuses and says that they will find a better, different way to free them. Aaravos, unfazed by this says that he could but it may take months or even years to find a solution or someone powerful enough to free Rayla’s family. He however, is willing and able to free them right now, all Callum needs to do is let him in so that he can complete the task as he can’t do it in his current state. 

Callum, a boy who we’ve seen willingly and without hesitation, risk his life to save Rayla and who also has had a history of reckless behaviour when it comes to magic (e.g. thinking that touching a lightning rod in the middle of a thunderstorm will give him Sky magic) would do it. He’d do it to help Rayla, because he loves and wants her to be happy. 

And he lets Aaravos in and true to his word he frees the three of them from their coins and the season ends with Callum now under Aaravos influence, much like Viren was by the end of season 2.

That would allow Aaravos to manipulate and charm Callum in season 5 and if his and Viren’s behaviour and relationship is anything to go by Aaravos will probably try to isolate Callum and perhaps even have him turn and lash out at those closest to him.

I find the really funny part about this question to be that my original RP experience (which I'll touch on in another prompt from this meme) was almost ALWAYS group stuff. Whether it was group forum threads or a gathering of people in avatar games. That was my norm for a good while before moving to other mediums. Getting to tumblr, doing exclusively 1 on 1 and then multiship also being the general rule?

That said. While I embraced multiship I haven't suddenly rejected writing with groups of people!

I've done several already in the past, actually. They weren't very long or wild but I do find them enjoyable. Group stuff with my AITSF crowd has happened more than once. And there was Persona stuff back when too. If you've got a group of people wanting to jump into a thread together and you're all in agreement, why not right? Makes for some good shenanigans just as it does serious stuff.

Actually, technically and currently I do have the one thread between myself, Faze, and Fayla with AK verse stuff, but it's either in Faze's court or on hold until that wild child graces us with her presence again...
