only you is glasshouse's mew's first ep album, released on february 14th, the day of love. the album is all about love, featuring two tracks – my only love and my rose. both songs got the spotlight for a solid four weeks during promotions.

my only love dives deep into the feels, talking about that one special connection that hits you right in the heart. the lyrics get into the nitty-gritty of what makes a love story unique and intense.

once pre-orders for ROSES began shortly after the release of “SHE,” the album was quick to sell. within the first week, it surpassed 700,000 pre-orders. within two weeks, it cracked a MILLION pre-orders, becoming the first album by a female soloist to reach such a milestone

“SHE” itself was just as much of a success. it debuted atop the SPOTIFY daily chart, and with over 200,000 units sold, it debuted at number one on the BILLBOARD HOT 100, becoming the first korean language track by a female soloist to top the chart. to JANG-MI’s surprise, it also topped the GAON chart, and won FOUR music show awards. the song remained atop the BILLBOARD chart for FOUR consecutive weeks, while it remained atop the GAON chart for THREE

as expected, ROSES was met with immense critical acclaim. like JANG-MI’s previous works, this album saw the most praise for her vocal performance and lyricism, as well as for the album’s production. as most of the tracks were written, composed, and produced by JANG-MI, many critics claimed that it added to the album’s more personal subject matter when it called for it, making it much more “raw”

the styling was so distinct this era, but still very cohesive !

there were flowy fabrics and lighter colors used for “SHE,” shades of red and flower motifs for “BELLA DONNA,” and lace + gothic elements for “ROUGE” ! there was also some corsets used here and there, especially from vivienne westwood

a lot of mirror palais and dior used too sjiwjs like yg went all out for her !

her makeup was very put together for “SHE” and “BELLA DONNA,” featuring soft eyeshadow in shades of pink, red, silver, or white. there were lots of sparkles used, as well as pearls, bows, or flowers around her eyes ! there was this one stage where a lot of pink blush was used on her cheeks, and for “BELLA DONNA,” her signature was red lipstick !

the makeup for “ROUGE” was dark all over, with heavy, smudged eyeliner and colors such as dark purple, dark red, and black. the sparkles were more minimal, but rhinestones were used around JANG-MI’s eyes, and sometimes, her mascara would be done in a way to make it look like she’d been crying ! there were crosses painted around her eyes, broken hearts painted on her cheeks, the whole nine yards !

the styling for her music videos was also insane ! it was so princess like for “SHE,” with lots of florals, corsets, and dresses used ! “BELLA DONNA,” of course, had a lot of cut outs, rose motifs, and shades of red, while “ROUGE” was a combination of the two !

the budget was crazy too bc there was archive mugler, vivienne westwood, dior, and chanel all over the place ! and ofc, JANG-MI had a hand in the styling, as well, bc she put together over twenty outfits for her music videos !

the fashion girlies were eating her looks up, though ! like she truly looked incredible

although she was exhausted due to release of her english album earlier in the year, jang-mi had so much fun during this era !

prior to the album’s release, some pretty unique teasers were released !

we got four posters that looked like they were ripped straight out of a vogue editorial, two concept videos (titled “ROSA” + “SPINA”), a moving poster (!!), and a highlight medley in the form of live performances !

the music video teasers were also incredible bc they truly looked like a movie

now buckle up bc a lot happened after the album’s release sjhdjdk

thirty minutes before the release of “BELLA DONNA,” there was a countdown livestream held, and it was so funny bc her staff intentionally chose questions that would annoy her sjiwjsjsk

they even chose questions that she answered already and jang-mi was yelling her head off ! she was tired y’all

at the end, she was asked to give a spoiler, and she almost danced to the entire chorus of her song BSMSJD her staff were all “that’s too much !” and jang-mi was sitting there cheesing

had to get her revenge !

following the music video’s release (which got 70 MILLION views within its first twenty-four hours !), jang-mi was everywhere !

all over korean television, doing a thousand magazine interviews (her puppy interview with buzzfeed is a fan favorite always !), appearing on radio shows, and she even got herself a lil vogue korea cover !

her running man episode was so good ! she was absolutely hilarious, and all the yelling she did gave knetz a new meme sjdksh

and oh her showcase, y’all,, jang-mi had a crowd of 30,000 at gocheok sky dome,, that many people for a SHOWCASE !

Hailed as one of the best debuts of 2024, critics and fans alike fell in love with the song’s “girlish” and carefree production, and praised how Chouka stayed so true to her hyperfeminine, “princesscore” image. Highly praised for its sound and how it fit Chouka’s style, “Girls Don’t Cry” was a resounding success. The music video’s teaser, which was released with no prior notice onto a completely new YouTube channel (“c.a.”) with no previous content (it was later turned into a channel for all of Chouka’s music related endeavors), garnered over 3.2 million views within its first twenty-four hours after Chouka posted it to her Twitter and Instagram accounts. The single’s title was revealed on both platforms an hour later, coinciding with the launch of her official website, which displayed the title alongside a countdown timer.

The song received over 400,000 pre-saves, and the title was trending on Twitter with over a million Tweets. Shortly before “Girls Don’t Cry” dropped, Chouka’s website was updated with the single’s cover, and she posted behind the scenes photos of her on its set, which received over two million likes within the first day.

Upon the song’s release, it was a smash hit. The music video garnered 32 million views within its first 24 hours, finding itself at #1 on YouTube’s trending page, and topping both the Spotify and Apple Music charts. It went on to become the second most streamed song on Spotify in regards to first day streams. “Girls Don’t Cry” topped charts in several countries, including Japan, South Korea, Australia, the United Kingdom, Italy, France, the Netherlands, New Zealand, and the Philippines (it also managed to remain atop the Oricon chart for seven weeks).

Surprisingly enough, “Girls Don’t Cry” would debut at #2 on the Billboard Hot 100 with sales of over 200,00 units, despite industry insiders predicting a Top 20 debut; probably due to the song’s immense popularity online. Unfortunately, it would never reach #1, falling to #7 after five weeks and staying there for two until falling off, but Rosettes were still happy to see that Chouka’s debut managed to get that high. In total, the single would sell over 850,000 units within its first week, cracking a million by the end of April.

Additionally, the song was also praised for its lyricism and feminist commentary on how women who are seen as “strong” or “smart” are not allowed to cry or display negative emotions and are expected to act as role models, while women who appear as if they have everything are told to “just deal with it” and that they have “nothing to be upset about.” Many Rosettes (and critics) were also surprised to find out that Chouka had written most of the lyrics, as she never expressed interest in songwriting before.

“Cake” was released as a single a month later, on May 3rd, 2024. Although the music video received over 11 million views within its first twenty-four hours, Rosettes were … a bit divided. It seemed like none of them could figure out whether they liked the song or not, with certain Tweets saying …

Despite the confusion, “Cake” also went on to top charts. It also debuted atop the Apple Music chart, and came in second beneath “Girls Don’t Cry” on Spotify. It managed to debut at #6 on the Billboard Hot 100, although Rosettes were gunning for a higher placement (it was definitely because they couldn’t stop beefing with each other). The song remained on the chart for two weeks (managing to jump to #5 during its second), before completely falling off the Top Ten.

Luckily, more retrospective reviews shows that Rosettes have warmed up to “Cake,” saying that it fit the aesthetic of the lead single. Everyone loved the “sugar sweet” concept that Chouka had going on, and expressed pleasant surprise that her try at a music career was going so well.

Definitely a fun era! Republic was truly pushing this single and girl, it showed. There were billboards playing her music video (Rosettes in New York even crowded around one when it first launched), ads plastered all across YouTube, “Girls Don’t Cry” was all over the radio, and it was the most popular song on TikTok for a good month.

The promotions were insane! Chouka was all over television this era. She was on the Kelly Clarkson Show (which was too cute! Like Kelly literally complimented her accent), she was on Jimmy Fallon, she was on GMA … like you truly could not escape her! She also had a photoshoot with Harper’s Bazaar and people ate it up! It was very Marie Antoinette themed with huge dresses, pastries, and of course, it was shot at a chateau in France!

And of course she had to promote in Japan! Chouka performed both “Girls Don’t Cry” and “Cake” on Music Station, and no one expected either song to have choreography. But the choreo was so cute, and especially for “Girls Don’t Cry!” Like you could truly tell that Chouka was having a blast, and everyone was so surprised at her stage presence because she’s literally a YouTuber. She also held a press conference in Tokyo, and she even got to visit a pop-up event held by Rosettes at a café in her hometown, Kyoto! It was the cutest thing to see her interacting with her fans, and she thanked them at least five times.

Chouka managed to squeeze in Korean promotions, as well! She performed both of her singles on M Countdown, Inkigayo, and The Show, and she was even on Weekly Idol! She held a small fansign for 200 fans who participated in the pre-order and received a “mystery ticket” with their album, and it was so cute! Chouka was cracking jokes with them and receiving SO many gifts (most of which were either pink or ridiculously expensive; she got a lot of bouquets, too!). Her Korean promos even saw the birth of her first fansite, Strawberry Sweet! She also appeared on the cover of Vogue Korea, and after that, Korean promotions ended unfortunately.

Side note, every performance of “Girls Don’t Cry” started with a costume change! It was usually Chouka tearing off a huge ball gown like skirt to reveal her shorter costume underneath, and her performance on M Countdown was literally her playing a princess getting ready for a ball. There was also a lot of ribbons, platform heels, and satin gloves used styling wise, and Chouka’s makeup was always so soft and pink!

Although she didn’t have enough songs to perform a full set, Chouka attended Coachella anyways and met a bunch of Rosettes! Jason (her fiancé) also tagged along, so fans got to meet him, too! Fashion girls were all over her festival looks too … being raised in Milan truly did wonders for her fashion sense.

Girl, the way the “#GirlsDontCryChallenge” blew up on TikTok is insane. The song had over a million videos underneath it by the start of June, and Chouka was doing it with celebs like Kelly, Tate McRae, Olivia Rodrigo, the members of Aespa, the members of Itzy, Rosé of BLACKPINK, Nayeon and Momo from TWICE, Yuju, the members of Viviz, and a few members of Stray Kids and NCT; among others! Chouka also did the challenge with Leeseo, Rei, and Wonyoung of IVE, and the way Dives and Rosettes were across every social media app absolutely freaking out that Chouka and Wonyoung were the same room was truly crazy.

Towards the end of promotions, a full length documentary covering the making of “Girls Don’t Cry,” the music videos, and the subsequent performances premiered on YouTube. It was a mix of professional camera shots and footage personally shot by Chouka herself, which was refreshing since Rosettes got to see a sillier side to her personality. The documentary garnered over 3 million views within the first twenty-four hours, and would end up at #5 on YouTube’s trending page.

At the end of promos, Chouka posted a long, heartfelt letter to her Instagram thanking fans for their support and expressing how surprised she was at the single’s success. She wrote, “I know that you guys have been waiting three years for me to try my hand at music, and words cannot express how happy I am that it was worth the wait. Over these last few months, you all have shown me so much love, and just thinking about it is moving me to tears as I write this! I promise that I’ll repay your support tenfold. You guys truly mean the world to me, and I wouldn’t be half the person I am today if it weren’t for you. You are truly my other half, even if I unfortunately don’t know you personally (don’t tell Jason I said that). I hope and pray that one day, I’ll be able to meet every single one of you from around the whole world in person, and tell you just how much you mean to me. Until next time, my loves. Additionally, there was also a remix planned with PinkPantheress, but unfortunately, plans ended up falling through because Chouka simply … didn’t want to do it. However, Rosettes ended up finding out about the planned collab, and demand for it was huge. So the remix could happen in the future! Who knows.

All in all, this era was great. It truly showed how much untapped star power Chouka had, and the numbers proved it. It reinforced her “It girl” status, showing that no matter what industry she tried her hand at, she would still dominate. ˗ˏˋ ꒰ ♡ ꒱ ˎˊ˗

Game Caterers x HYBE (ep 1-2)

A chatty and weird green light is on in HYBE

While everyone went back to their tents the crew members began moving four large cooler boxes into the field along with a table with cups of Iced Americano. The artists chatted among themselves, discussing what the first game could possibly be. From her tent at the end, Lumina watched closely as the staff set up in front of them. She looked at the cooler boxes scatted around the field, trying to figure out what PD Na would possibly have in store for the first game.

“What is your plan, Mr. Na? What are you thinking?” Lumina leant her elbows on the table, resting her head on her intertwined fingers as she watched the producer on the other side of the field. Her team mates laughed at the dramatic tone of voice she was using once again.

“Now let’s begin the first game.” PD Na announced, grabbing the attention of all the teams. “Isn’t it hot today?” A chorus of ‘yes’s’ came form the artists, waiting to hear what the game is. “It’s so hot today. But you only have some bottles of lukewarm water to prevent you from dehydration. Do you see the cooler behind you?”

“Yes.”

“Please open it.”

“It’s empty!” Beomgyu and Huening Kai called back to the producer.

“There’s nothing inside.” Confirmed PD Na. “This game is to fill your cooler.” Team’s cheered, happy to get something other then water to cool them down. “If you don’t do well in this game, in weather like today you might end up breaking up your band.”

“We renewed our contract only recently.” Members of Seventeen called out from their tent making Na and the other artists laugh at their sudden announcement.

“The first game is Red HYBE Green HYBE. You’ll all stand inside the semicircle over there. You walk forward when the tagger says green HYBE.” PD Na explains the game. “There are four coolers, a coffee station and water. Pick various items to quench your thirst. Do not get caught by the tagger. Do you see the yellow finish line?” He pointed at the yellow line at the end of the field. “If you pass that finish line, what's in your hands is yours. Do you understand?” The teams nodded in understanding.

“It’s worth trying,” said Baekho, “You just go for it without getting caught.”

“I want coffee.” Minhyun said, eyeing the table of coffee from is seat.

“Me too.”

Lumina didn’t even hear what they were saying. In her head she was planning her route from cooler to cooler, not wanting to miss a single one.

Her mission planning was interrupted when she heard cheering coming from the other tents. PD Na had just announced that Seungkwan would be the tagger.

“Let me ask you a question.” Na inquired. “Let’s say Seventeen moved. Are you going to let it slide because they’re your team?”

At this question, other teams make sounds of disapproval.

“Don’t worry.” Seungkwan reassured everyone. “I love them less then other artists here.” His statement caused laughter from the others while Dino nodded, agreeing with Seungkwan’s statement.

“Then we won’t be able to find anyone better then him.” Concluded Na PD. “Seungkwan, please come forward and play the tagger.”

His team cheered for him as he moved towards the finish line to be the tagger. The fromis_9 members cheered for him as he passed them. Jiheon called out “you’re good looking!” making him a bit shy. From their tent, Team TT could here their cheering. They laughed at the situation.

“He likes hearing that.” Baekho said. “He likes hearing he’s good looking.”

“He really is though.” Lumina watched Seungkwan across the field, eyes full of admiration for the older idol.

“Please gather at the starting line.” Instructed PD Na.

Teams started making their way towards the start line, chatting amongst them selves, coming up with strategies.

Lumina stood at the end of the line with the rest of her team. While they were talking about what to do, Lumina has busy greeting the members of Seventeen who were standing next to her. Then the TXT members appeared and she greeting them by hugging each of them.

“I finally get so say hi.” She said as she let go of Beomgyu. “I sit so far away from you.” she pouted. Yeonjun laughed and ruffled her bangs affectionately only for Beomgyu to swot his hand away and fix her hair.

“Is everyone here?” Called Seungkwan from the finish line, turning around to take a look at everyone at the start line. “Yes. Organize your bangs and wipe your sweat.”

“START ALREADY!!!!!” Yelled Mingyu, getting impatient.

“Okay.” said Seungkwan, turning his back to the artists. “I’ll make the first one long so you can move at ease. I’ll begin.”

Little did Seungkwan know that while he was talking the teams started moving behind him. Lumina sprinted for the first cooler on her right. She couldn't quite make it there before Seungkwan turned around and everyone froze. Lumina almost collided with Yeonjun, who suddenly appeared right next to her. She stumbled a little but thankfully Seungkwan didn’t notice. “Yah!!!” She whisper yelled at Yeonjun, “What’s wrong with you?!” Yeonjun only laughed.

Seungkwan turned around again and they all moved. Lumina got to the cooler the same time as Yeonjun and Jake. Jake flipped the lid off to reveal cans of soda inside. Yeonjun immediately put his hands inside at the same moment Seungkwan called red HYBE. “Cold cold cold.” he repeated, his hands in the cold ice. Lumina laughed next to him. Serves you right for almost tripping me earlier. she thought.

When they were clear to move, she crouched down to pick up a can. She would get up to make her quick escape towards the next cooler but she was trapped by Jay standing behind her, leaning over her to get some soda and Yeonjun and Jake on either side. Realizing she was stuck in the middle she let out a sigh, she looked at everyone in their frozen positions. Around the one cooler, Yeonjun and Huening Kai of TXT and also Jay, Jake, Sunghoon and Jungwon of Enhypen, all scanning with their eyes which soda to take. “This is a bit awkward.” she said, causing the boys around her to stifle their laughs.

“Sorry Lu.” Jay said from above her. He clearly hadn’t thought the situation through when he reached over her. Now they were stuck.

“It’s okay.” she replied slightly glancing up at him. “I should have went for a different box.”

Meanwhile the next time Seungkwan turned around he eliminated Jiheon and Mingyu. When it was clear everyone around the soda can box plunged their hands in only to be frozen in their positions once again. Can already in hand, Lumina held it close to her body which was starting to ache from crouching for too long. “This is too crowded.” said Soobin, who was frozen close by.

“I want Americano.” mumbled Yeonjun.

The group around the cooler started to break up the next time Seungkwan turned away. Lumina took this opportunity to pick up three more cans for her team mates. Jay moved a little to let her out but it seemed her legs didn’t have enough strangth to get up. “Oppa, help.” She looked up at Taehyun who had appeared where Jake was once standing. He offered her his hand and she took it. He started to pull her up when Seungkwan turned around and everyone froze once again. Taehyun quickly held her arm with his other hand to keep her steady, not fully on her feet. Holding all her cans in one arm, Lumina cringed at the feeling of the cold metal on her skin, her eyes on the tagger. The moment he turned away Lumina stood up. She looked over the field and was surprised to see most of the players were already close to the finish line. From where she was standing she could see that the other coolers had been pretty much emptied and the coffee table was being carried by Joshua, Hoshi, Hayoung and Nagyung.

“I stayed there too long.” she cried to herself. Her mission to visit every cooler seemed pointless now, so she decided to just make her way towards the finish line with her cans of soda. She speed walked towards the finish but stopped halfway when Seungkwan turned around. Getting closer and closer to the finish, Lumina saw the coffee table team make it past the line. Moving forward again, she stopped right behind Yeonjun, who looked like he was struggling holding all his cans. “Oppa be careful.”

But right after she said it, Yeonjun run the last steps to the finish line. He practically tripped over the line the moment Seungkwan turned.

“Buzzer beater.” Seungkwan said, willing to let him pass.

“Yeonjun you’re out.” PD Na laughed.

Lumina finally crossed the line with four cans of soda in her hands. She stood at the line, waiting for her two remaining team mates. Lee Hyun and Minhyun where still making their way forwards the finish.

“You can do it!” She cheered for them.

“Hurry up.” Said Baekho, who had finished a while before.

Minhyun crosses the line just in time before the tagger turns. Lumina cheered for him. Not long after Soobin and Sunghoon finish too, leaving one person in the field alone.

“Hyun!” called Lumina, with a laugh.

Everyone began cheering for Lee Hyun, standing alone in the field with a few cans of soda and a bottle of herd tea.

“I need to hear why you’re still here.” Seungkwan run over to Lee Hyun with his mic.

“I have bad knees.” Was all Lee Hyun said.

Seungkwan ran back to his place at the finish line. However Lee Hyun silently walked behind him, surprising Seungkwan when he crossed the line. Everyone laughed at Lee Hyun’s witty action.

“Oh. You’re so cool.” Cheered Lumina when he passed her. She looked at what was in his hands. “Our team has so much soda now.”

Everyone was back in their tents enjoying their drinks. Lumina giggled as her team mates took a sip from the herd tea bottles.

They could hear cheers from Le Sserafim's tent next to them.

“They’re cutting the watermelon.” Said Minhyun

“Wow, that looks so good.” Lumina sighed, a little jealous.

Yunjin cut the watermelon into pieces them put them on a plate. Sakura took the plate.

“This is for you.” she said, as she bought the watermelon to team TT. Minhyun took the plate from Sakura thanking her. Lumina also stood up to thank the Le Sserafim members.

“Thank you so much.” she said, bowing in gratitude to all the members in the next tent.

Biting into the watermelon, a look a pure joy spread across Lumina’s face. “Ah, this is heaven.”

A little later Hoshi came to them with a plate of more watermelon, not knowing they had been given some by Le Sserafim.

“We already had some.” Lee Hyun told him.

“I want more.” Both Lumina and Minhyun said at the same time.

And so each team enjoyed a short break, enjoying watermelon and refreshing drinks under the warm sun.

“Are your team mates being nice to you?” Soobin asked, glancing at the three older men standing close by. Lumina smiled, thinking that his question was like an older brother asking if her classmates were nice on the first day of school.

“Yes Oppa, don’t worry. I’m having fun.” she reassured him

“Good, come to me if you need anything.” he whispered to her.

“Thank you, I will.”

with no prior confirmation that she was attending the awards, cheri made her first solo award show appearance at the 2023 MAMA. making her red carpet debut on day 1, she wore a 2019 oscar de la renta mini dress and donned vivienne westwood jewelry. day 2, she was dressed in vintage versace — the look, once again, accentuated by vivienne westwood pieces.
