hi! i just wanted to tell you that your prose is soo unique, and i LOVE IT.

i noticed reading the atlas six (and even more in the atlas paradox, i believe) that you use a lot of exclamation points in the narrative and it’s the coolest thing ever. i remember reading a writing tip by some famous writer that said: maximum 2-3 exclamation points every 100000 words!!!!!!! and it’s so fun seeing you break a lot of those types of rules so effectively.

i have recently developed the habit of define certain sentences of the books i read as “olivie blake-ly” because it’s so unique! half of my annotations are: “olivie blake vibes! yay!”

it’s like there is no filter between the narration and the characters’ thoughts, they just melt effortlessly into the prose. it’s such a fun and new style, i’m obsessed.

(english is not my mother tongue so sorry if there are mistakes— and for all of the fangirling)

hahahaha I love this okay so truthfully any "mistakes" I make when it comes to rules about prose or genre come from a place of being what I think of as inventive but also, to some degree, uninformed, because I didn't study literature or composition formally. I just read a lot of books and treat writing as if it's play. and one thing I've noticed that people don't always grasp about my tone in writing is its... hmm. ironic quality? a lot of lines are written from a place of sarcasm/are not delivered straightforwardly, playing on the tension between the dumb thing a character thinks and the starkness of whatever reality is supposed to be, so a lot of times I will make use of unusual or unexpected punctuation to emphasize that. I love a good exclamation point delivered in an unlikely place. I mean it definitely seems like you get that, with the way you observed the narration and the character thoughts are blended to deliver... well, lies. usually something very unreliable and with kind of a wink to emphasize the absurdity. but anyway thank you so much, I really do love to hear you're enjoying your read!!! Man-o-wars have long, thin tendrils that can extend 165 feet in length below the surface, although 30 feet is the average. They are covered in venom-filled nematocysts used to paralyze and kill fish and other small creatures. For humans, a man-of-war sting is excruciatingly painful but rarely deadly.

They washed up on the beach. They cannot swim. And the water carry’s them there.

no because anon you're so unbelievably correct. the worst part is he thinks he's being so slick about it and that he can can control himself when in reality he can't! he opens yet another box of adventurefuls after he just polished off some thin mints, swears he's "only having a couple", and then boom they're all gone within the span of half an hour. your daughter is looking at you helplessly like "mum what on earth why did you marry this man" and all you can do is shake your head in disbelief and disappointment 💀. but he is very dedicated to helping her sell all her boxes (when he's not scarfing them down of course). he went out and bought a whole pop-up canopy for her to set up under and he's standing out there with his classic dad aviators (you know the ones), arms crossed in a black fitted tee as he handles all the digital payments, grumbling under his breath about how no one carries cash anymore. he's lost count of the amount of business cards he's handed out; the grocery store cashier, the mailman, his barber, all of his neighbors, and of course, the 141 boys. yes, even mr. simon "i don't eat sweets" riley, whom your daughter thinks is hilarious to refer to as the "uncle with the casper mask". simon, however, does not find this amusing. needless to say, she passes her sales goal with ease. obviously, because prices never lose!

Hi Olivie! Coming to your tumblr page brings back so many memories for me. I found you through your fics initially, and in college I once wrote to you on how I’d been feeling really down and lost after moving to an entirely new country (I think it was the one with your quiz on our two favourite fics of yours)! Your answer to that gave me a lot of comfort. I’ve since started working—my work requires me to read a lot, and that actually put me off reading for leisure a long time. I was recently at the Strand in New York and picked up a copy of The Atlas Six when I saw your name and it gave me a jolt! It’s kind of changed my life a little bit haha I finally remember why and how I used to enjoy reading this much. I’m sorry this is all over the place, it’s in the middle of the night here and I’m half drunk and still reading TLA, but I just want to say—thanks a lot for all that you do!!

actually a lot of people tell me that ta6 gets them back to reading for pleasure and it really does mean a lot to me, because I too went through a period where I wasn’t able to enjoy reading (cough law school) and when I finally started again it was like rediscovering an old part of myself, a piece that I didn’t realize I really liked. I know how it feels to get that part of myself back, so it really means a lot to hear that something I wrote could reinstate that kind of joy for others

Wait I just realized as I'm writing this that if the house gets searched then the portal would be found. Not good I think. I mean, the mercs already know Mango's history with Minecraft, but finding the portal and it having a path to the animator's PC would be a problem.

in all seriousness though i think purple would probably unlink the portal, just in case King comes back home and becomes suspicious because he can hear Obnoxious Portal Noises in the basement, and i also feel like they would both be nervous enough that any ruckus would catch their attention, so Alan would be quick to slam dunk the mercs into the trash.

though it is funny to imagine the Mercs leaving behind Agent (since he's the primary tech guy) because he's busy and SURELY this isn't a computerside server. and it proceeds to be a computerside server.
