F. W. // Everything & Nothing // Part One
Tumblr media
Masterlist Requested: nope Word Count: 990 Warnings: cursing Author’s Note: Hi again! I’m back with a new fanfic. Hope you guys enjoy it!
You’re a production assistant on Voyagers, a new sci-fi thriller. On the first day of rehearsals, you encounter Fionn Whitehead... and immediately hate him.
At first, his presence wasn’t acknowledged. The black-haired actor was a rumor, spoken about in whispers and passing comments. You knew precisely three things about him by the end of your first day:
He was British.
He was very quiet.
His name was Fionn but pronounced like Finn (weird).
The fact of his softness was of interest, considering the character he was playing. As a new production assistant, you didn’t know much about the film. Voyagers was a space epic, a thriller in which a crew of young adults descends into madness and chaos. Fionn played Zac, the antagonist.
When he first walked into the rehearsal room, you had to stop yourself from making noises of surprise. You had expected the villain to be less… sweet looking. Fionn was wearing a gray hoodie and a pair of tattered jeans with ratty black Converse. He had a shy grin on his face as he made his way to his seat, giving handshakes and high-fives along the way.
You didn’t have much experience with movie stars. The only jobs you’d had before Voyagers had been small and full of cast and crew members who had no idea what they were doing. This cast was full of professionals like Colin Farrell and Tye Sheridan, whose names you’d known for practically forever.
Surprisingly, the pros were not the problem.
As a PA, your job was fetching things like water and snacks for the cast while they did their script read-through. You were to stay quiet and out of the way, like ghosts.
By the first break, you were seething.
Fionn had knocked into you as you passed behind him with a pitcher of water and had not stopped to help you clean it up, not even to apologize. He just kept on reading as if nothing had happened. In fact, no one in the cast had turned to help you.
Armed with fresh clothes and a bitter attitude, you made your way back to the conference room. Most of the cast had wandered off, but Fionn was still seated at the table, looking through his script.
You bit your lip and began to organize the coffee cart in the far corner of the room. It was better to focus on your work, the reason you were there, rather than on the lone actor. As you finished stacking the plastic cups, a hand on your back made you jump.
“Can you pass me one of those?”
Fionn stood behind you, his palm resting lightly on your shoulder. You pulled away from him as quickly as you could, keeping your back to him.
“Miss?”
“Sorry, I’m a bit busy.” You muttered.
“Okay…” He stood next to you at the cart, close enough for your arms to brush. “Well you’re actually in my way.”
“And you’re in my space, so could you actually fuck off a few feet?” You snapped, slamming the cups in your hand down on the cart. Fionn took a few steps back with a huff.
“Fucking hell.” He muttered. “Coffee isn’t worth this.”
The two of you were silent for the rest of break. In that silence, you took a moment to observe Fionn.
He sat with a strange sort of confidence, an easy smile and a friendly face. He got on very well with his other castmates and you could tell he was good at making friends. It was infuriating, he had been so rude to you and you alone.
As the rehearsal came to an end, you once again found yourself alone with Fionn. He seemed to move slower than the rest of the cast, taking his time with packing up his belongings and saying goodbye. You moved around the table to clean up, and stopped when you came to him.
“You’re kind of in my way.” You snapped, reaching past him for his placecard.
“You don’t have to be a bitch about it.”
A bitch, is he serious?
You clenched your jaw and snatched the placecard, letting it whack his neck as you turned away. You stormed out of the room. If the first day was going to be this bad, you dreaded how the rest of shooting was going to go.
You hated Fionn Whitehead.
***
The rest of the day was blissfully uneventful. Most of your time was spent running errands and to be honest, you didn’t mind. You barely had time to interact with the cast and that was perfectly fine with you. Most of them were fine, but Fionn… you could do without seeing him.
It was actually incredible to watch them all work. Most of them weren’t like their characters at all and it was strange to watch them switch back and forth. It looked tiring.
You sat on the sidelines, watching Tye and Fionn argue back and forth. As much as you hated him, Fionn was a great actor. He was charismatic and full of energy, an addictive energy that you couldn’t quite describe. Playing the villain suited him.
The director, Neil, yelled cut and the two boys made their way over to the monitors. Neil beckoned you over. “Y/N, can you grab these boys some water?”
“She doesn’t have to, I can grab some.” Tye spoke up before you could answer. He turned to Fionn. “You coming along?”
“Neil asked her to do it mate, why would I go?” He answered, glancing over at you.
God, I could kill him.
You did the next best thing: you tripped and spilled both cups of water on Fionn. “Oh my god, I am soooooo sorry!” You feigned panic, doing a little acting of your own. He let out a slew of curses as Tye ran to grab some paper towels. “Clumsy little me.”
“Whatever.” He snapped. As you walked away, you couldn’t help but grin. That’s what he gets for being an asshole.

In the swamplands of Florida there sits a forcefield that formed after a meteor hit the area. Separated from regular life by a kaleidoscopic shell whose circumference continues to expand, The Shimmer, as it’s called, has claimed the lives of every man who has gone inside — except one. Biologist Lena (Natalie Portman) lost her husband Kane (Oscar Isaac) after he was presumably killed during a military operation, but when Kane returns home with his memory gone and his health failing, Lena looks for answers.
She then joins an all-female research team consisting of a physicist, a geologist, a paramedic, and a psychologist, all of whom volunteer to enter The Shimmer in what amounts to a suicide mission. While inside, the women find a gorgeous world that defies nature — but the mutations taking place within threaten to destroy the women, their team, and eventually, the world.
4. Anon (2018)
Tumblr media
EW grade: (read the review)
Director: Andrew Niccol
Cast: Clive Owen, Amanda Seyfried, Colm Feore, Mark O’Brien,
Privacy and anonymity are luxuries afforded to no one in the 2018 British-American sci-fi thriller Anon. Clive Owen stars as Detective Sal Frieland, a troubled cop operating in a dystopia where the entire populace is implanted with an ocular device intended to record and track the movements of the people around them. The government’s transparency methods ensure that all criminal activity is caught on tape — but when a mysterious woman with no digital footprint (Amanda Seyfried) crosses paths with Sal, he realizes she might have a connection with a series of unsolved murders he’s investigating. Director Andrew Niccol tells EW “I always wanted to do a movie about privacy and the fact that there was never a war for privacy, because we already lost — we gave away our privacy without a fight, all for convenience.
3. Bird Box (2018)
Tumblr media
EW grade: B (read the review)
Director: Susanne Bier
Cast: Sandra Bullock, Trevante Rhodes, John Malkovich, Danielle Macdonald, Sarah Paulson, Machine Gun Kelly
Lights, camera, VPNaction! Elevate your movie nights with NordVPN. 🎥🔒secure your connection and Download NordVPN . Click now to unlock global cinematic thrills!
Sight becomes a handicap in Bird Box, a post-apocalyptic thriller where the enemy must go unseen, or else. Sandra Bullock stars as Malorie Hayes, a woman responsible for transporting two young children down a river while wearing blindfolds, a strategy intended to help the survivors avoid seeing the entities that attacked Earth five years earlier, and who cause those who look upon them to commit suicide. Jumping between their present journey and the past events that led Malorie and the children to this point, director Susanne Bier leans into the tension of the unknown and relies on her talented but eclectic cast to do the rest. Released the same year as A Quiet Place, and possessing a somewhat similar premise, Bird Box received less attention when it first premiered, but this sci-fi horror film is a great option for fans of both genres.
2. Black Mirror: Bandersnatch (2018)
Tumblr media
Director: David Slade
Cast: Fionn Whitehead, Will Poulter, Craig Parkinson, Tallulah Rose Haddon, Catriona Knox
As it turns out, the only thing missing from the British anthology series, Black Mirror, was options. In Black Mirror: Bandersnatch, the TV show gets a movie makeover, but with a twist: The film was shot in the style of a “choose your own adventure” novel, and viewers are able to customize their viewing experience through their scene selections. Centered around a young programmer named Stefan (Fionn Whitehead), Bandersnatch follows Stefan’s journey in developing a video game for a famous gaming company, a journey that puts Stefan under a great deal of mental and emotional stress, and results in one of ten main endings. Black Mirror is beloved for its eldritch and tech-focused content, and Bandersnatch keeps that tone alive, using the main storyline to explore themes like free will and mind control, even as the viewers’ choices drive the story forward.
Don’t Look Up (2021)
Tumblr media
EW grade: B (read the review)
Director: Adam McKay
Cast: Leonardo DiCaprio, Jennifer Lawrence, Jonah Hill, Meryl Streep, Timothee Chalamet, Ariana Grande, Cate Blanchett, Mark Rylance, Melanie Lynskey, Chris Evans
Lights, camera, VPNaction! Elevate your movie nights with NordVPN. 🎥🔒secure your connection and Download NordVPN . Click now to unlock global cinematic thrills!
As a comet sets its sights on Earth and prepares to wipe out human civilization, two astronomers (Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Lawrence) rush to warn the world of the impending collision — only to discover the world doesn’t really care. “Based on events that haven’t happened yet,” as the film’s trailer states, Don’t Look Up is a sci-fi satire that skewers climate deniers and government inaction in the face of scientific evidence pointing to looming catastrophe. Directed by Adam McKay (Vice, The Big Short), and featuring everyone in Hollywood from Jonah Hill and Meryl Streep to Timothee Chalamet and Ariana Grande, Don’t Look Up offers great jokes and fun cameos, but be warned: it’s not exactly light fare. Still, as far as sci-fi comedies go, this one is worth a watch — just don’t think too deeply about the implications of the film’s ending.

“EMILY” tells the imagined life of one of the world’s most famous authors, Emily Brontë. The film stars Emma Mackey as Emily as she finds her voice and writes the literary classic Wuthering Heights. The film explores the relationships that inspired her – her sisterhood with Charlotte (Alexandra Dowling) and Anne (Amelia Gething); her first, forbidden love for Weightman (Oliver Jackson-Cohen) and her care for her maverick brother (Fionn Whitehead) whom she idolises.

Emily star Oliver Jackson-Cohen has admitted that his mother is worried about his choice of roles, but admits that he prefers to explore his dark side on screen.
"It’s that delicious stuff that we all love," the 35-year-old explains, "going off to those darker places is so much more fun than playing a friendly neighbour!”
The actor, whose breakthrough came as the abusive boyfriend in The Invisible Man (2020), is in cinemas this week in Emily, the story of 19th century author Emily Brontë. And, once again, he’s at the centre of a turbulent relationship.
He plays William Weightman, the curate at Howarth in Yorkshire who, after a hesitant start, embarks on an intense and secret affair with Emily (Sex Education’s Emma Mackey).
Although he calls an abrupt halt to their relationship, Jackson-Cohen was amused by the idea that his character 'ghosts' the aspiring writer. And when he spoke to Yahoo about the film, the actor described how he believes Weightman’s motives aren’t malicious, unlike those of Adrian in The Invisible Man. Perhaps his mum needn’t worry after all.
“Maybe it is selfish, but it’s governed by his faith and what he truly believes is right, and also by society at the time,” he explains.
“Frances [O’Connor, the film’s director] does an incredible job shining a light on religion and how controlling it was of society and, specifically, a woman’s place within it. Everybody had to conform because stepping outside of it was too scary. I think there’s something not very brave about him, because he ends up having to conform because he’s terrified.”
Jackson-Cohen also reiterated that the film “isn’t a biopic”, but an imagining by Frances O’Connor of Emily Bronte’s later years, as she struggles with her romantic and creative impulses as well as her own reclusive nature, which means she’s regarded by society as something of a misfit.
The second of the Bronte sisters (older sister, Charlotte, went on to write Jane Eyre, while the youngest, Anne, was best known for The Tenant Of Wildfell Hall), Emily only published one novel, Wuthering Heights, which has since become a classic of romantic English literature.
“Frances has such respect for Emily Bronte and Wuthering Heights that she just wanted to explore them,” he added. “She’s so fascinated – and we all are – that this one person wrote this one book that is still, to this day, one of the greatest pieces of literature. She wanted to get inside her creativity and imagination and let that run wild.”
Emily also stars Fionn Whitehead, Adrian Dunbar and Gemma Jones, with Alexandra Dowling and Amelia Gething respectively as Charlotte and Anne Bronte.
A familiar face from TV’s The Haunting of Hill House (2018) and The Haunting Of Bly Manor (2020), Oliver Jackson-Cohen was seen earlier this year turning his hand to a lighter role in Regency rom-com, Mr Malcolm’s List.
He’s now set to star alongside Jenna Coleman in new series, Wilderness, which centres on another twisted relationship. Emma Mackey, who appeared in Death On The Nile at the start of the year, is currently filming series four of Sex Education for Netflix.

Emily (2022)
🎬Imagines the transformative, exhilarating, and uplifting journey to womanhood of a rebel and a misfit, one of the world's most famous, enigmatic, and provocative writers who died too soon at the age of 30.
đź“ťA truly magnificent, dark, poignant, moving and beautifully shot film. If you are a fan of English literature, period costume dramas then definitely check it out. The Yorkshire Moors look absolutely stunning. This is a film worth watching on the big screen.
I loved Emma Mackay in the title role as well as Oliver Jackson-Cohen as William Weightman and Fionn Whitehead as Branwell Brönte. The entire cast were great. The film also made me a bit teary too. It's really a moving story that imagines how Emily Brönte came to write Wuthering Heights.

Critique : Emily De Frances O'Connor Avec Emma Mackey, Fionn Whitehead, Oliver Jackson-Cohen

Hey, do you think there’s one reality?
Because people think there’s one reality, But there’s loads of them all snaking off like roots. And what we do on one path effects what happens on other paths. Time is a construct. People think you can’t go back and change things but you can. That’s what flashbacks are. They’re invitations to go back and make different choices. When you make a decision you think it’s you doing it but it’s not. It’s the spirit out there that’s connected to our world that decides what we do. And we just have to go along for the ride. Mirrors let you move through time. The government monitors people. They pay people to pretend to be your relatives and they put drugs in your food and they film you. There’s messages in every game. Like Pacman. Do you know what pac stands for? PAC. Program and control. He’s program and control man. The whole thing’s a metaphor. He think’s he’s got free will but really, he’s trapped in a maze. In a system. All he can do is consume. He’s pursued by demons… that are probably just in his own head. And even if he does manage to escape by slipping out one side of the maze, what happens? He comes right back in the other side. People think it’s a happy game. It’s not a happy game it’s a fucking nightmare world and the worst thing is it’s real and we’re living in it.
hey are you bandersnatch because Black Mirror: Bandersnatch is a 2018 interactive film in the science fiction anthology series Black Mirror. It was written by series creator Charlie Brooker and directed by David Slade. The film premiered on Netflix on 28 December 2018, its release date only officially announced the day before. Netflix did not confirm the interactive nature of Bandersnatch until its release, though there was much media speculation. In Bandersnatch, viewers make decisions for the main character, the young programmer Stefan Butler (Fionn Whitehead), who is adapting a fantasy gamebook into a video game in 1984. Other characters include Mohan Thakur (Asim Chaudhry) and Colin Ritman (Will Poulter), who work at a video game company; Stefan's father, Peter (Craig Parkinson); and Stefan's therapist, Dr. Haynes (Alice Lowe). A postmodernist work with free will as a central theme, the film was named after a real video game planned for release by Imagine Software in 1984, the game in turn named after the bandersnatch, a creature of Lewis Carroll's creation. Brooker and executive producer Annabel Jones were approached by Netflix about making an interactive film in May 2017, during which time Netflix had several such projects for children underway. Difficulty in writing the highly non-linear script led to Netflix's creation of a bespoke program called Branch Manager; the unique nature of the content required adaptations in the platform's use of cache memory. Bandersnatch was originally to be part of Black Mirror's fifth series, but its lengthy production led to its release as a standalone film, delaying the fifth series to June 2019. Critical reception was mixed, with a positive response to the technical design of the film but criticism of the story's characterisation. There was mixed commentary about the narrative and the extent to which viewer choices affected the story. The film received average rankings in critics' lists of Black Mirror instalments by quality, but garnered numerous awards and nominations, winning two Primetime Emmy Awards. A lawsuit filed by Chooseco over the film's use of the term "choose-your-own-adventure" was filed in January 2019 and settled in November 2020.

Emily imagines what might have inspired Emily’s moody literary output, in a way that’s comparable to Shakespeare in Love—albeit drawing on real historical figures from the Black Flame Candle Company Halloween Shirt and by the same token and Brontës’ parish rather than wholly fictional characters. Rather than creating a purely historical account, director Frances O’Connor takes the opportunity with Emily to fantasize about what might have led the middle Brontë sister to write Wuthering Heights. Her wild theory? That the reclusive Emily had an affair with Weightman, an assistant curate who worked with her father, Patrick, a rector in the Yorkshire town of Haworth. While there’s no historical evidence of any romance between Emily and Weightman, the Durham graduate did play a significant role in the life of every member of the Brontë family. Arriving at their parsonage in 1839, Weightman immediately charmed the three sisters—delivering them personalized Valentine’s cards after learning that none of them had ever received one. He would become a dear friend of Emily, whom contemporaries described as incredibly reclusive, even by the Brontës’ standards. It’s Anne, though, who’s generally believed to have been in love with Weightman—portraying him as the Reverend Weston in her criminally underrated novel, Agnes Grey. He’s also believed to have inspired many of Anne’s poems after his death from cholera at the age of 26. Charlotte, too, fell under Weightman’s spell for a while, before later dismissing him in a letter to her friend Ellen with her usual severity: “For all the tricks, wiles and insincerities of love the gentleman has not his match for 20 miles round.”

you couldn’t really pinpoint where your relationship with Zac started
it was just kind of there all of a sudden
neither of you confessed, but you came to a sort of unspoken agreement
you both liked each other, why bother talking about it?
you spent the early stages of your relationship sneaking around
hiding it in front of Richard, and everyone else
it was your own little secret
he used to sneak into your room at night
the two of you stayed up exploring each other and all of the new feelings you finally had
it was exhilarating
and everything was perfect
until it wasn’t
Richard had died while repairing the outside of the ship
when Zac told you it was partially his fault, you weren’t really surprised
you knew Zac didn’t like Richard, and while murder was a bit extreme, you didn’t really mind
you were just happy you could stop hiding your love for Zac
but then the rebellion started
Zac didn’t like how strict all of the rules were
or how Christopher got to be in charge
he wanted that power
that freedom
and he was going to make sure he got it
Zac started his movement, and soon the ship was divided
he appointed you his second in command
and the two of you led the movement for freedom
no more working
no more strict rules
you could do whatever you wanted and no one could stop you
you loved the freedom
the power that you had
you felt stronger than you ever had before
but what you weren’t planning on was the violence that came with it
Zac had found weapons in the ship that were meant for the third generation
you had thought they were just for show
to scare Christopher and Sela
but then Phoebe died
you watched her get shot right before your eyes
and you realized just had dangerous this was going to get
“Zac, please we don’t need the weapons. You saw what happened to Phoebe, someone else could get hurt!” you pleaded with him.
“Calm down y/n. Phoebe was just a warning. No one else is going to get hurt, I promise.”
you nodded at his words, and hugged him tightly, relieved that all this killing would finally be over
“Now I’ll be right back. I’m going to try to reason with Christopher. And I won’t kill him, ok?”
you nodded once more and watched as he walked out of the room to go find Christopher
time passed, and you began to grow worried
what was taking him so long?
you heard the door finally open and you turned around, relieved
but Zac wasn’t there
it was Christopher and Sela
everyone in the room raised their weapons at them, waiting to hear what they had to say
but you weren’t expecting the words that came out of his mouth next
“Zac’s dead.”
you felt your whole world fall apart
you didn’t want to believe it
you couldn’t
“No. No you’re lying.”
“Y/n-” Christopher started, but you cut him off
“No! You’re lying! What did you do?! Where is he?! You’re lying!”
you couldn’t stop the tears from rolling down your face
Sela walked over to you and pulled you into a hug
“Y/n I had to. He was going to kill us all.”
you froze at her words
she killed him?
and she expected to get away with it?
no, you weren’t about to let that happen
you pushed Sela off of you, and tackled her, punching wherever you could
you couldn’t control yourself
you were just so angry
you felt someone try to pull you off, but you wouldn’t budge
so they pushed harder
you stumbled full force across the room, falling onto the edge of the desk
your neck slammed against it, and a cracking sound emitted from it
and the most unimaginable pain filled your body
you fell to the floor, suddenly finding yourself unable to breathe
your sight became blurry
you felt blood pooling out the back of your neck as you slowly faded away
life on the ship was different after you and Zac passed
they kept some of their freedom, but also went back to preparing for the third generation
everything was finally at peace between them
no more fighting
no more rebellion
the story of you and Zac was motivation as to why the program was important
the two of you became a warning
as to what would happen if the program wasn’t followed
and even though neither of you were there to see it, the impact the two of you mad would last generations
