"Nik, I'm back home!!!", Alex, his girlfriend announced in the evening as she entered the apartment which she was sharing with her boyfriend, Nik Ryder. Nik was delighted to see her.

He moved closer to her and wrapped his arms around her to greet her.

"I hope you had a good day, rook. I've been thinking of you all day."

"Really? I'm just tired."

"No wonder you must be tired, you've been running through my mind all day. Do you want to lie down and relax? Or would you like me to make you some tea?", he chuckled.

"No, I'm fine.", she whispered without meeting his eyes.

"Everything all right? Did something happen?"

"No, nothing."

"Come on now, don't lie to me, rook. I know when something's not right. Tell me.", he requested while trying to make eye contact with her.

"Nik, we don't spend much time together anymore which is sad."

"I know, baby, but you've got to understand that both of us have big responsibilities at work. While I protect the city at night, you're handling Lamrian at day. But don't you worry, that's gonna change someday and we'll have all the time we want again like before.", he wasn't sure but still tried to assure his girlfriend.

"Thanks, I hope so too."

Nik kissed her again, more passionately, and caressed her cheek before answering.

"I love you, Alex.", he whispered. While holding her by the hand, he walked inside the living room with his girl, hugging her from time to time.

"Hey rook, are you hungry? I made pasta for dinner."

"Yummy, pasta!!!"

He smiled widely at her cute reaction.

"I know you love pasta. Wait here, let me go prepare everything."

After some time preparing dinner and setting the table, both were seated at the table. Nik served her some pasta, then he served himself. Both silently ate until she spoke.

"You know what day tomorrow will be?", she asked.

"Tomorrow's Friday. Why are you asking?"

"I know it's Friday, but it's a special day."

"What day are you referring to, baby?", he asked her while looking a little puzzleed.

"Think!!"

After a moment of silence, he realized what she was referring to and he smiled gently.

"Of course, tomorrow is your birthday!! You're turning 26. I can't believe it's already been one whole year, rook."

"You remembered my birthday!!"

"Of course, I remembered!! But thanks for reminding me again, I was thinking about it this morning and the past few days. Can't believe it just slipped so easily out of my mind. So yeah, I haven't forgotten your birthday, babe. I love you and it is a special day for you!! I have something prepared for tomorrow, just wait and see, Alex."

"But you still forgot something. Nik, tomorrow isn't only my birthday, but also our very first anniversary. I met you one year ago for the very first time. We may not have been dating at that time then, but don't you think we should celebrate that too?"

"Damn, I forgot about that?! Now, I feel terrible for forgetting the date of our celebration. Sorry, forgive me. I'll make it up to you, I swear. Tomorrow there will be two parties in one!!", he laughed a little, but still felt terrible about forgetting their very first and special day.

Alex was now silent and continued finishing her pasta. But there was something about her silence that bothered him. The past few days were rough for him and decided to confess something.

"Rook, I'm really happy with you and I feel really lucky. I'm not great at math, but we're a perfect match. You're my soulmate. But we haven't been spending so much time together anymore and it's starting to worry me too. I hope you didn't think that I wouldn't notice, but you always looked so busy and tired and there are times when, to be honest, it feels like... like... I'm a bother. Am I imagining this, or do you...?", Nik looked very upset while confessing.

"Oh Nik, you're never a bother. I love you. You're my heart, my soul, my everything."

"Are you serious, rook?"

"Yes, baby."

He sighed in relief before answering back.

"Damn, I was starting to overthink things. It's just that when I see you tired and overworked... I just wanted to make sure you didn't feel pressured by me. Because if that was the case, my love, it would break my heart."

"Oh, I'm so sorry you thought like this. It's not because of you. I'm soooo sorry to make you feel that way. Please forgive me."

"There's nothing to forgive, my love. You mean a lot to me and I'm sorry if I've been annoying to you. You know that you're important to me, I just wanted to clarify that with you. But now everything's fine, you don't have to worry anymore. Now let's just focus on having a great anniversary tomorrow... Okay?", he gently whispered in her ear while caressing her cheek.

"You're not annoying, Nik."

"Thank you, babe. I love you, Alex.", he confessed then planted a quick but gentle kiss on her cheek.

"So, are we good now?"

"Of course, we're good now, my love. There's nothing more in the world I want than to see you smile."

"Thanks, Nik. You're the best."

He smiled, took her hand and pulled her gently to his chest.

"No, you're the best, my dear. You're beautiful inside and out. I'm so lucky to have you in my life. I love you so much."

"Love you too!"

He pulled her even closer to his chest and kissed her hair.

"I'll make sure you have the best day tomorrow."

I feel so lucky with you, Nik.", she confessed which made him smile even more while he caressed her cheek.

"I can say the same for you, Alex, but it's not a thing of luck, it's meant to be. As I said, you are my soulmate, my dream woman, my partner and the love of my life. You're the reason why I get up every day with so much motivation to face the world. Don't ever forget how much you mean to me, okay?", he pulled her to him again and kissed the top of her head, very lovingly. Then he spoke again.

"It's getting late, tomorrow we have a big day, and we need to get some rest. What do you say?"

"I agree! I can't wait for tomorrow."

He let her go and both headed toward their bedroom to sleep. Nik was very excited, he had prepared a surprise party for her. Will he be able to sleep tonight at all with his excitement? Both were looking forward happily for the next day.

Nik just put the final touches on everything. His planned surprise for his girlfriend must go perfectly. He requested her to come earlier today from Lamrian so they could celebrate together. A knock on the door made his heart beat faster. He ran to the door and opened it, revealing the love of her life who looked more beautiful than ever. A big smile appeared on her face. He was stunned by her beauty. Speechless he couldn't take his eyes off her. Both stepped closer to each other with a tender look in their eyes. While Nik Ryder was wearing a suit, Alex wore an elegant dress with matching high heels.

"Nik...", she suddenly stumbled as she entered, but Nik quickly grabbed her to prevent her from falling.

"Are you all right, darling?", he anxiously asked.

"Yes. Hello, Nik!!", she smiled.

"You look amazing, I like that outfit on you. I can't believe you decided to wear the maroon-colored dress with the golden body chain that I once bought for you. My Maroon Majesty."

"Of course. Thanks!! Nik, you have great taste and I love this dress. By the way, you look very handsome, Nik.", she sweetly giggled.

"Ah thanks, I know I am. But I'm a bit nervous, I want to make this day perfect for you. The truth is that I was dying to see you. Hope you like what I've planned, my rook."

Then Nik leaned forward and kissed her. He caressed her cheeks and pulled her even closer to him. His eyes met hers while whispering in a low tone in the ear.

"I've been waiting all day for this moment. You must be tired because you've been running through my mind all day.", he chuckled then.

"I'm glad to hear it, that makes me happy.", she giggled then too.

Like a true gentleman, the boyfriend helped his girlfriend take off her coat and took her hand to go sit down.

"Please, come on, let's have a wonderful dinner."

Taking her hand in his, they walked to the dining table. Nik seated her by pulling her chair, then he sat down on another chair in front of her. The candles illuminated him and made him look even more handsome. There was a romantic atmosphere and as the two of them gazed at each other, he squeezed her hand tenderly.

The young man hesitated before he continued.

"I know we've been dating for a year now and we've been doing great but... I wanted to tell you something that's been in my head for quite a while and I can't keep it secret..."

"What? What it is?", she suddenly became surprised about the sudden turn. She worried, held her breath and waited for him to continue. He looked very serious at her.

"The truth is that I can't wait to spend the rest of my life with you, and I want to know what you think about the idea... I want to know what you think, do you think you'd ever want to marry me?"

"What??!!! But you never wanted to marry, Nik."

"Look dear, I know I told you from the beginning that I wasn't interested in marriage. It's true, but with time some things have changed. I'm surprised by myself too, but... When you find the right person, you change, and in my case... I've found you.", he confessed, gently took her hand and kissed it sweetly which made Alex's heart almost melt.

"Oh, Nik... Am I dreaming or are you saying this?"

"Well, you pushed the wall with the bricks I've built. You just couldn't stay on your goddamn side cuz you're are too stubborn, dear. So I want to marry you someday. Not now, but someday. I want you to be mine and only mine. I get jealous when other people try to flirt or even try to impress you. I want you to be mine only and I only your's. I want you to be my wife one day. But... Not now."

"And what about children?", she teased.

"Uhhh, well. I... Alex, I... I thought..."

"Nik, don't worry. I was just teasing. You've made me already so happy with the marriage confession, dear. Thanks for making this day even more special than before. That's great news and I will patiently wait for the day or night when you will finally propose to me because now I have hope."

"Unless I change my mind."

"No!!! Don't you dare, future husband!!", she warned him which made him laugh.

But let's go ahead and eat.", he suggested, serving her meal first, then himself. Both started eating, looking at you with a satisfied smile and with eyes full of love.

After dinner, it was time for a sweet dessert.

Nik took her hand and led her to a big table decorated with a romantic cake, candles and flowers surrounding it. He gently cut a piece and fed her.

"Mmmhhh, yummy. I feel like I'm in heaven. So creamy.

"Glad you like it."

"Nik, sid Cal help you with the cake?", she raised her eyebrow while staring at him.

"How... How did you know? I mean, I... Yes... Yes, you caught me, rook. Wolf guy helped me with the cake, but I swear I did the rest all by myself.", he panicked which made her just giggle.

"Well, Cal gave a lot of treats so my pretty brain immediately sensed that it was one of his excellent creations. Mmmmh, the buttercream.", she swooned a little.

"Yeah, Cal is great at baking and all. I get it, I get it. Now let's just focus on both of us, okay.", he rolled his eyes. He just wanted to turn their day into something special and only about them.  But Nik was still thankful for Cal's help. He definitely wouldn't have arranged a cake on such short notice since he was already busy with other preparations. Maybe next time he'll order earlier, directly from a cake shop.

After each ate a piece of cake, it was time for the next surprise.

Nik led Alex into their bedroom which was beautifully decorated. She was stunned by the view. It's a room with their bed covered by a romantic canopy and many candles around it. The ceiling had red heart-shaped balloons attached to it and there were red roses spread everywhere. He pulled her into his arms and watched her with tenderness.

"Just for you dear, I have prepared everything.", he whispered and planted a quick kiss on her cheek.

"Nik, this is so romantic. Roses are my favorite flowers. And rose petals on the bed? Wow, so gorgeous!!! Thank you, my sweetheart!!!!"

"Now, shall we spend a little time here alone, my love? After dessert, we could burn some calories together on bed.", he winked.

"I love your playful side, my love."

He took her by the hand and led her towards their double bed. Gently pushing her playfully back, he let her sit on the bed.

"Oh, before I forget... I bought a gift for you."

He opened a gift box for her, revealing a beautifully, bejeweled necklace.

"This is for you, honey. I hope you like it."

"Eeeek, this is so pretty!!! So sparkly!! Thanks, but it looks too expensive."

"Expensive? For the future Duchess of Lamrian?? Hey, you have to accept. I bought it for you only. Don't look at the price but at my love."

"But Nik, I..."

"Rook, please."

"Nik..."

"Look, the price was nothing for me. Remember the six figures I got from protecting you? The million dollars? It was only because of you, that's why I decided to spend them all on you and your happiness. They're yours. It's our money, baby. You're worth it."

"I see, but still."

"Seriously? You know, you're the most stubborn person I have ever met.", he was about to lose his patience.

"Okay, okay, I accept. Sorry, I was just... It's so pretty. So sweet of you, Nik. I suggest that we should invest or save the money for our future. But for now, I thank you from the bottom of my heart, Nik. Thanks, but I sadly have no gift for you right now."

Nik shook his head as he caressed her neck and pulled her close.

"You don't need to give me a gift, because seeing you happy and beeimg with me is my best gift. But just so you know, I'm not done yet with the surprises. You know, I may be a terrible dancer, but I've got great moves in bed.", he winked.

"Oh..."

Later, after a passionate moment in their bedroom, it was time for the last surprise. He lead her outside. Tonight was a beautiful night, the moonlight created the perfect atmosphere for some romance.

He looked her straight in the eyes, holding her hand.

"We're going to a special place, so you gotta close your eyes for a sec?"

Nik waited for her reaction with anticipation, hoping she would trust him and agree to close her eyes. He couldn't contain his happiness and satisfaction by getting her to agree to close the eyes. With closed eyes, she waited for the next step.

"Okay, great! Now hold my hand and just keep walking, keep your eyes closed but don't open them at all until I tell you okay? And most importantly since I know you very well... Don't even peak!!"

"Okay, fine. I won't open my eyes till you allow me, I promise."

He led her a little further and she could feel a gentle breeze on her face. After a few minutes, he suddenly stopped. The sound of birds and a stream of water running were to hear. Alex waited a few seconds, Nik caressed her cheek a little and after a while, he finally told her to open her eyes. A romantic and very beautiful spot in the middle of the forest. A quiet place, with a waterfall running over the stones and making a sound that gave an atmosphere of peace and tranquillity. The moonlight illuminated the water and reflected its light. Colorful wildflowers everywhere. The entire place was filled with flowers. The aroma in the air was divine. A very romantic atmosphere perfect for two loving people. On the fresh grass, Alex discovered a blanket.

"We're in the bayou, Nik. Your favorite place on this planet and where we shared our first kiss.", she recognized.

He leaned forward, kissed her softly on the lips, and then whispered.

"That's right, rook. Where we both kissed for the first time. Happy Birthday to you and a very Happy Anniversary to us."

Later, Alex decided to give her boyfriend a gift too since he worked so hard to make her happy and their day memorable. A little gift for her beloved Nik. Sadly she hadn't bought anything for him and shops were already closed, so she decided to quickly slip into their bedroom and then return to him. Nik was patiently waiting for her in the bayou, not aware of her plan. She finally returned to him with her loyal violin in her hand.

"Should I play for you?"

It caught him by surprise at how unexpected it was. Then he glanced at her face, a look that let her understand how much he liked the idea.

"Yeah, I would love to hear you play."

Nik sat Alex on a large rock near the small river and leaned on the rock himself next to her, with curiosity and expectation in his eyes. He watched her with tender affection, waiting.

The way Alex played her instrument touched a deep cord in him as if he seemed to be transported in his world by the melody. Even though she played a romantic song, she noticed that the rhythm was more slow and melancholy now. He looked at her with adoration and admiration, enjoying her music fully. Until finally, he whispered.

"You're the most beautiful woman on earth and I love you."

"Are you nervous?" Adrian asked, attentively looking at Amy. They were in a private room of his lab, where two beds had been set up for her and Alex. It was a small space but it had everything they could possibly need to assist them if there was a problem. 

"A little." He smiled at her, compassionate and supportive. 

"Everything will be fine. I promise." He tried to reassure her… And himself. "Even Ryder gave his approval." He added, with a slightly sarcastic tone.

"Because Nik is such an expert in the potion terrain,” Alex commented as Nik rolled his eyes while Amy let out a small chuckle.

“There are many things you still don’t know about me, rook.”

“If you say so.” Both women walked to the beds, looking at each other for a moment, before sitting on the mattresses. Amy took Alex’s hand, squeezing it. “I hope this works,” Alex said, her eyes fixed on the woman in front of her. Fixed on her own face. Alex returned the gesture.

“Me too.” Amy sighed. “Drinks on me if it does.” Alex giggled and Amy let a little smile out.

“You got yourself a deal.” They stood in silence until Adrian, gently clearing his throat, called their attention. 

“If you are both ready, we may start.” He pointed to the scientists in the door who were carrying two identical glasses with the potion. Amy looked at Alex again and she nodded.

“We are.” As the liquid ran down Amy's throat, Adrian closely observed her. Amy, from Alex's body, looked at him as she was lying down. She winked at him although her smile was small and nervous. He walked over to her. 

"I'll be right here." He knelt beside her and gently kissed her forehead. "Waiting for you."

"You've been doing that a lot lately." Adrian chuckled, holding her hand. 

"I don’t mind." His fingers softly caress her hair.

“A man who doesn't mind waiting?” She leaned on his touch. “How did I get so lucky?” He softly chuckled again and sweetly smiled at her.

“You are worth any wait, Amy.” She blinked slowly and heavily. “And, believe me, I’m the lucky one.”

"Debatable." His hand cupped her right cheek, softly brushing with his thumb the soft skin under it. “Adrian… If this doesn't work, if anything happens…”

“I won't let anything bad happen to you, Amy. Not ever again.” Her eyes slowly drifted close as the potion quickly kicked on. 

“I just don't want you to feel guilty.” She whispered as her breathing became shallow and her heartbeat slowed down drastically, her skin pale and a bit cooler as he tried to ignore the similarities with the night in the Met, ignoring his fear of losing her again. 

“I won't be feeling anything more than happiness when you wake up.” With a small move of her head, she nodded. “And you will wake up sound and safe, Amy.” He said, desperately trying to believe his own words. “I promise.”

"See you soon." She said in a barely audible murmur.

"See you soon." He repeated as her hand went limp in his hold. He kissed her knuckles and reluctantly freed her hand, standing up.

Nik watched warily while Alex took the potion. He knew it was the right decision, and so far the only possible solution they had found, but, at the end of the day, he wasn’t ecstatic about it. He watched how her lips touched the glass and how in one fast motion, the liquid had disappeared. She lay on the mattress, and after one second of hesitation, he sat beside her. Amy and Adrian were softly speaking beside them so he just focused on her. “Alex…” With a little hesitation, he guided his hand towards hers, taking it as gently as possible. “I will be watching over you, rook.”

“Because you have to?” 

“‘Cause… You are important to me.” He noticed the tiny smile that lifted the corners of her lips and the light squeeze of her fingers around his. 

“Glad to hear it.” She sighed deeply, her head falling to the side as her eyelids felt heavy like she hadn't slept in days. “I know there's a lot we need to talk about… And that a lot has happened lately but… I’m glad you are here, Nik.”

“There’s no other place in the world I would prefer to be, Alex.” Her eyes were finally closed and her whole body seemed drained, looking vulnerable as the day that Thomas attacked her. He stood, almost at the same time as Raines, and walked beside him to the chairs in front of the beds.

A few minutes later, Nik cut the silence. "You know, I didn't know vampires could be so... sappy," Adrian smirked at Nik's words.

"Of course we can. We are not nighthunters after all." He crossed his arms over his chest, never looking away from the two women.

"C'mon Raines, I did my homework." Adrian turned his focus to him and lifted his brow. "Your past precedes you, pal." 

"It might. I won't deny that I have done … dreadful things in my past. Things I'm not proud of, but I deeply regret them." For a moment, Nik saw pain and regret in his face. He wondered if he had the same expression when he talked about his own past. “But I changed. I left all that behind me.”

"Does she know?" Nik asked with a head gesture referring to Amy.

"Most of it." Nik nodded, pensive. “She’s a Bloodkeeper. I wouldn’t be able to hide my past from her even if I wanted to.” He smiled, looking proud of Amy. "And I don’t want to. She deserves honesty." For a moment the only sound in the lab room was the distant noise of the machines from the other part of the lab. Both Amy's and Alex's heartbeats had slowed to a near stop. “Does Alex know about your private conversation with the Fate?” Nik narrowed his eyes with suspicion and Adrian smirked. “I did my homework as well.” He considered Raines' words, assessing his answer. 

“No. She didn’t say much.”

“I see.” Adrian looked at the timer that had been set up above the beds. Only forty minutes had passed and the nerves were settling in by the second. 

Nik stood, taking a few steps around. “Goddammit.” He said, frustrated, stopping in front of Alex's body. “This is torture.”

“I agree.” Adrian put his hands together, tightly, until he sighed and relaxed again. “But unfortunately, there's nothing we can do right now. Just wait.”

“I know that,” Nik said with clear irritation in his voice. “You seem calm, tho.”

“I'm terrified,” Adrian responded with such sincerity that Nik turned to watch him, surprised, as the vampire walked to the side of Amy's bed with a complex look in his eyes. “It's the second time that I have to watch Amy unconscious for hours desperately wanting that she will be okay. The second time I'm scared to lose her.” A deep sigh escaped him. “Feeling powerless to help her.”

“...I understand the sentiment.” Nik put his bow against the wall, near to him but lowering his ward for the first time. “If Alex doesn't wake up…” He ran his fingers through his hair. “I really hurt her, you know? I need to fix it.” He trailed off, with regret. “I can't lose her. Not again.”

“It seems our concerns are similar.” Adrian took off his blazer and loosened the tie around his neck.

“Looks like it.” Seconds turned to minutes and minutes to hours as time slowly passed. According to Ivy, the minimum waiting time was five hours, and the maximum time was eight hours. If the clock marked more, the results could be catastrophic.

Once upon a time, on a land far away... Lamrian. There lived a King and his Queen who ruled happily together over their gigantic fae kingdom.

One day a total stranger who wasn't even a fae, visited the royal couple and asked for the hand of their daughter and only child, Crown Princess Alexis from Lamrian.

The princess was silently dancing ballet in her royal chambers upstairs and wasn't aware of what was happening downstairs in the throne room.

She raised her arms above her head, extending her hands like wings as if she were a bird in flight. She brought her arms down to chest level and bent her elbows. Extending one leg in front of her into a kick, and then the other one in a kick behind. The kicks were executed in sync. The result of her ballet dance movement was the impression of a soaring bird as if the bird's wings were flapping to allow it to fly. She made delicate dance movements that were pleasant to watch and with a refined and elegant presence. The movements of the feet were graceful, the movements of the arms and the fingers were very fluid, and the whole body got synchronized. The whole dance was a wonderful spectacle of harmony until she heard loud voices coming from downstairs.

"Father?", she got worried, stopped dancing and immediately rushed the stairs down towards the throne room where the voices got even louder. As she finally entered, she discovered Elric, her father having a heated discussion with an unknown stranger.

"I already declined your proposal, now leave!!! My daughter is too young for you.", Elric shouted at the man. Never in her life has Princess Alexis seen her father so angry. He was always such a calm and patient man, but that stranger kept pushing.

"But your Highness..."

"No, I don't want to hear anything. Now leave!!", Elric commanded and pointed towards the exit.

"But..."

"Heyyy!!! Haven't you heard what my father said??!", the young princess intervened and stood up for her beloved father.

For a moment the stranger's eyes met hers. Both stared at each other for a moment without avoiding any eye contact. Then he began to grin like a madman.

"So that's our precious crown princess. My future wife.", he smirked.

The young girl was shocked by his words and wasn't aware of the situation, but her father quickly stepped in front of her to cover his child.

"Child, go back upstairs. We will handle this."

"I demand your daughter's hand, Your Majesty. I hate being declined. Make me the new king of Lamrian."

"Never!! And now leave before I call my guards."

"Fine, I'll leave. But if I cannot have the princess, then nobody will.", he promised while he took a closer look at the young girl. She was wearing a beautiful, sparkly peacock dress with matching ballet slippers. A creepy grin appeared on his face again as he just got an idea.

"I command you to leave!!"

"Yes, your Majesty I will leave, but I'm very sure that you will seek me later.", he took a few steps backward, revealing his magical scepter. Without losing any second, he pointed it towards the princess and a blast of light appeared which hit the young lady. She got frightened and panicked.

"If I cannot have the princess, then nobody will because I hereby curse her. She will no longer perform ballet, no longer show herself in public and nobody would want to marry her, because... I'll turn her into a peacock!! The Peacock Princess. Forever."

And with that, the young princess was turned into a peacock, a majestic bird. Even though female birds were gray-colored, weren't bright colored and attractive like the male ones, she still got turned into one. A brightly, blue-green colored bird like the gown she was wearing. The evil man wasn't very educated, so he had only seen the blue-green colored ones which were male. When he saw that his dark magic worked and the girl had turned into a bird, he used his magic again to vanish in thin air. Only dark clouds were left behind which slowly dissolved by themselves.

"No, I'm a bird now. It can't be...", Alexis realized and began to cry. Her father and stepmother were supporting her and embraced their child.

"Hush, do not let your precious tears fall. We're here for you.", the loving stepmother encouraged.

"That man was no ordinary human and neither a fae, but a wizard who used dark magic and cursed my beloved daughter."

"Do not worry, dear Elric. I will try to lift the curse. After all, I'm a powerful magic wielder.", Thalissa spoke with determination. She cannot allow anyone to hurt her family. She loved her husband, Elric and Alexis whom she didn't give birth to, but she's still like her own. Family wasn't always bound by blood. Bound by Love.

She could no longer see her innocent child in pain, who was now struggling to stand on her new bird feet and tried to maintain balance. Thalissa closed her eyes, concentrated and chanted a spell while spreading her palms towards the child. After a moment, the princess was surrounded by light which could break the curse of the evil wizard. But the light was soon gone, faded away immediately. Queen Thalissa failed. She failed which broke her own heart that she couldn't save her stepchild. The wizard was stronger. But she tried again. Again and again, together with her husband. But they sadly couldn't break the curse together, so Thalissa changed her plan. Instead of breaking a spell, she tried to weaken it. Instead of staying a peacock forever, the princess shall be back in her true form at night. Peacock at Day and Half-Fae at Night.

They wanted to do more, but the curse was sadly too strong. Now the poor princess was sadly gazing at her parents, hoping to be back herself again. Somehow. Someday. Back again in her own body.

Till the late afternoon, Alexis was resting in her royal chambers upstairs in her peacock form and sad about today's happenings. She couldn't show herself like this to the public, the royal staff and locked herself up in her room. She was a peacock who could barely walk like one, who couldn't dance ballet, who couldn't play her violin, who couldn't take her black horse out for a ride and who couldn't hug her parents. She couldn't do the things she loved to do. She needed an escape.

Without letting anyone notice, she slipped out from the palace. Even the royal fae guards didn't stop her because they thought that it was just an innocent peacock that strolled around or got lost. She left her home because she didn't want to sadden her parents even more. She felt like a burden to them and went into the woods. The girl rarely went somewhere alone, because she wasn't allowed to go somewhere on her own without any security like the royal guards. After all, she was the crown princess and future queen of the kingdom.

As she arrived in a secluded part of the woods, she was surrounded by Mother Nature. Beautiful wildflowers were blooming. Little ladybugs, colorful butterflies and tiny birds filled the air with their singing and other animals were living peacefully.

Night has fallen and the princess wasn't in the palace. She was missing. The young Alexis who was strolling in her bird form now turned into her old self again which made her extremely happy. She finally was back in her body, but sadly knew that it would only be for a short time. By sunrise, she'll be a peacock princess again. But for now, she was just delighted to have her body back and began dancing. A ballet dance that expressed her happiness. After all, she couldn't dance properly when she was in her bird form.

The young royal performed a smooth ballet dance. She was a skilled dancer who could master difficult choreography with ease due to her years of training. Her footwork was delicate, yet strong, as her body moved through elaborate dance steps with grace and control.

"Keep on dancing. Keep on dancing.", she motivated herself, but immediately stopped at the sudden audience in front of her. A few seconds later, they clapped... Like humans?

"Such a beautiful dance.", a black cat meowed.

"Fae-tastic, darling.", a white dove praised.

"Wohooo Hooo Hoooo...", an owl hooted.

Even a gigantic grizzly bear appeared and clapped his paws which made the princess panic and took a few steps backwards.

"A bear??!! And did these animals just talk and act like human beings? Please let me go.", she begged mercy without knowing what was going on.

"Please, don't be afraid. Many are afraid of me because I look big and dangerous, but I am not. I'm Krom, a stone-troll.", the bear assured in a gentle voice.

"A stone-troll?? But you're a bear? And you can talk real words??!"

"Krom darling is telling the truth, lovely fae princess. And I'm no dove either, I'm one of your kind, your Highness."

"We were cursed by an evil wizard. He turns everyone who doesn't obey him or even disgusts him into animals with his magical scepter. Someone needs to stop him by destroying his wand, his scepter.", the owl spoke and then introduced herself as Ivy, a zombie girl who loves books.

"And I'm Luc, dear princess. Please kiss me so I'll get back to my handsome form again.", a green toad hopped towards the girl. He leaped on her shoulder and tried to meet her lips.

"Luc, behave. She's our guest.", the black cat hissed which frightened Luc, so he decided not to kiss her and just rested on her shoulder.

"You're right, mademoiselle Vera. C'est vrai. I apologize."

"Apology accepted, Luc. And like Ivy said, the curse can only be broken when the scepter gets destroyed. Not like in the Frog Princess story since we all got cursed and not only you."

"Wait, let me understand. You're all not animals?", she tried to understand and the five animals nodded to confirm.

"Yes, we all got cursed except for Cal."

"Cal?", the princess asked and then discovered a gigantic wolf who was silently leaning against the tree. He was so silent that she barely noticed him. The princess got more afraid, but they all tried to calm her down.

"Hey relax, I won't harm you. I'm not the Big Bad Wolf.", he calmly spoke and shifted from his wolf form back to his human form. He was a werewolf. Half human and half wolf, so there was no way the wizard could have turned him into an animal when he was partly already one.

"But princess, we saw you in a peacock form a while ago, before you began to dance. How did you turn back into your regular form?"

"Oh, I would have stayed in my peacock form forever if Thalissa, my stepmother wouldn't have tried to weaken the curse. I am still cursed like all of you, but I will turn into a bird until sunrise. Peacock at Day and Half-Fae at Night. But how will we ever find the evil wizard to break the spell? He just disappeared. He's gone and I have no idea where he is.", she began to cry. Tears welled up in her chocolate-brown eyes and couldn't stop falling. The girl got frustrated and had no idea what to do next. She was alone with the cursed beings.

Suddenly, the sound of horse tracks appeared which made the cursed ones panic, so they hid themselves. Even the werewolf decided to hide. Only the young girl remained who was still shedding her tears without knowing what was happening.

A young man arrived in the woods on his majestic, white stallion. His cloak flowed in the air. He noticed a crystalline castle in the distance. And then he heard someone crying, so he headed there to see where it came from.

There he discovered a lovely lady standing alone in the dark. He got off the horse and walked towards her.

"Greetings milady, what are you doing so late at night alone in the dark woods? It's not safe. And why are you crying?"

"I am... I was the princess of Lamrian. Princess Alexis Clarissa Fontaine from Lamrian. Now I am the victim of a curse that turned me into a peacock."

He was taken aback by her words, but quickly regained his composure and bowed.

"Oh, you're the princess?! Your Majesty, tell me how it happened. I will help you break the curse. It doesn't matter at all to me, you are still the most beautiful woman I've ever seen."

She was touched by his words and began to cry, this time more happy tears.

"You are quite kind... An evil wizard cursed me and other innocent beings into animals. By sunrise, I will be a peacock again. To break the curse, his magical scepter must be destroyed."

"Princess, it could be dangerous. I cannot let you go alone and find him all by yourself. Let me help you. Where will we find him?"

"Deep, deep, deeper in the woods. In a small hut is where he lives.", the owl hooted from another tree.

"That voice?? What was...?"

"It's one of the talking animals. These are the cursed ones."

"Fine, that's where we will go then, my lovely princess.", he extended his hand forward to support her. The girl took it and carefully climbed on the white horse to sit behind him. Then they started their journey together. But could the innocent princess just blindly trust him? Meanwhile, in a small hut at the edge of the lake, the evil wizard who cast the spell on the princess was waiting for them. He knew they would be coming and watched them as the lake reflected what the couple was currently doing, like a magical mirror.

"Curses, how did the princess get back into her form? She should be a peacock. I don't understand, did that commoner do that? It must be the work of a hero. Well, whatever his case is, I won't let him leave alive."

Back on the journey, the princess is curious about the young man, Nik.

"My hero, aren't you afraid of the evil wizard? Why do you want to help me?"

Nik is touched by the princess's questions.

"I have had many adventures, my princess... I'm a Nighthunter... A professional that hunts all creatures of evil origins and defends the good and innocent."

She was indeed impressed by his answer. In a clearing in the woods, they came across a band of dark creatures that just appeared, the wizard's henchmen.

Nik realized the sudden danger, hopped off the horse, and drew his weapons.

"Damn it... We've encountered the wizard's henchmen but no worries, my princess. I will protect you."

He turned to the creatures then.

"Stop right there villains, by the power of light, I order you to leave this place immediately. Leave us alone or else... you'll have to face my Holy Light arrows!!"

The henchmen snarled at him, but Nik was determined to get rid of the creatures once and for all. He grabbed his crossbow and began shooting holy light arrows at them one by one.

They got afraid by Nik's determination and some of them even got killed by the light arrows. The ones left behind disappeared back into the shadows.

The princess was amazed by Nik's courage and strength.

"I was so worried... How did you know they would leave? You are a hero, Nik... I am happy that I am in your protection, thank you very much."

Nik looked into her eyes and was moved by her kindness and sincerity.

"You are quite a kind and beautiful princess by the way. Your face is even more precious than the most precious jewels in the world."

She blushed a little, touched by his words. After he got on his horse, sitting behind her, the princess leaned her head on his chest. He took her arm and placed it around to keep her stable on the horse.

Meanwhile, the villain, furious to see Nik so dedicated to the princess, decided to cast another wicked spell... He began his spell, while the couple were still on their journey, completely unaware of what was about to happen. The jealous wizard chanted a spell of pure hatred and malice, then shot it at them, aiming directly at the princess.

The couple didn't realize what just happened yet. Meanwhile, Nik felt something disturbing in the air, a spell that disturbed his soul. He immediately scanned the surroundings, seeking the dark magic that had been created. He felt the dark spell. It's coming from the Princess. His instincts told him to be careful because there was something wrong, so he stopped his white horse and gently guided it toward a place where there was more light.

"Princess, are you okay? You seem strange all of a sudden. What's going on?", he asked the princess who remained silent and Nik noticed that. Even her face had changed. She showed a strange coldness and a strange look as if she had been brainwashed. Then she looked at him with a deadly look, as if she had forgotten everything they'd gone through together.

"What the...?", Nik got shocked and didn't understand the sudden change from this beautiful girl to a coldhearted woman. He looked around desperately and realized that they were now in a dark place, with fog and shadows everywhere. Also, his weapons were gone. The evil wizard played his game!

The young hero watched the mysterious figure who suddenly appeared in front of them. The wizard himself.

"Well, well, well... Nik Ryder is the name, am I right?"

"No dirty tricks now, wizard guy. Hand me over my weapons and return the princess to her normal self. Otherwise, I swear I will rip you apart!", his voice filled with anger. The villain laughed mockingly and cruelly back.

"My dear, you should try to think logically. Can a simple human fight against the will of a powerful wizard? If I wanted, I could turn you into an animal. Perhaps a bird too just like the princess. A falcon!! And then I'll lock you lovebirds up together in a bird cage. But I won't, I will let you live. Just one condition... Bring me the precious princess. She's mine and not yours.", he commanded while glaring at Nik with a cruel grin.

Nik was shocked by the words, he looked at the princess and saw her beautiful but cold look. He didn't want to admit it but he realized that the wizard guy had done something to her. She was brainwashed and in some kind of trance. In a last attempt to save the princess, Nik drew a secret dagger from under the saddle without letting anyone notice, hid it behind his back, hopped off the horse, and turned towards the evil man.

"I will never let you touch this lovely girl, don't you dare come closer. I don't have my weapons but I'm not afraid of you. Even without them, I'm powerful enough to protect my princess."

He stood determined in front of the guy, the dagger ready to strike the wizard his chest. The evil guy smirked at his brave attitude, knowing very well that he had the upper hand and that he controlled the princess.

"You silly little human, can't you realize the sad truth? Your princess is now my puppet. So there are only two options. You can give up and save her from a great deal of suffering or you can take me down and watch her die in your arms."

The Princess's eyes looked like there was a struggle inside her. She's looking at Nik, hoping that he could save her and Nik Ryder himself was determined to free her.

"No... I will never let you have her! If I defeat you I will also break your spell and I bring her back!", he yelled at the man who laughed cruelly.

"Oh, Nik, Nik, Nik... you can't fathom the power of a might like me... not many beings could break my magical power, that's why I rule over the most terrifying and dark beings."

He glanced at the Princess of Lamrian and then turned back to Nik.

"But if you think you can save her... I'll just laugh at your boldness and watch you fail. So come here and try me, if you dare", he spoke in a teasing tone.

Nik didn't hesitate and charged towards the man, taking him by surprise. The hero managed to slash him with his secret dagger within seconds, and the man screamed in pain. However, the wizard quickly took the opportunity to recover, grabbed him, and shot dark powers all over him. Nik managed to counterattack and they both got to the ground, each one looking for the advantage to be able to put an end to the battle. After a few minutes of struggle, the wizard managed to get the upper hand and pointed his scepter at Nik.

As he got ready to shoot his final and strongest spell of pure hatred and malice to finish Nik, the princess suddenly regained control of her senses and jumped between the two with Nik's secret dagger in her hands which was lying on the ground. She stabbed the wicked wizard in the chest while catching some unwanted blood stains. But it didn't matter to her as long as her hero was safe. Then she was able to destroy the scepter easily now with her fae powers after the villain was defeated. Destroy the owner of the scepter first, then the scepter.

The wizard collapsed, died in pain. Nik gazed at the princess with a new level of admiration.

"Well, would you look at that? You're not entirely stupid after all. Damn, look at you. How amazing you are, my princess! That was a brave action you just did!"

"Did you just called me stupid??!!"

"Forgive me, I was teasing you. Just joking. You did great, my love.", he chuckled.

He stood up from the ground, turned towards the princess who seemed a bit tired and confused now. He embraced her into his arms, looking at the evil wizard's corpse lying on the ground. The princess seemed exhausted and shocked as she realized what she had just done. Alexis still had a lot to process but the most important thing was that she was safe now. He placed the young lady gently on his white horse, then he also got on it, sitting behind her, and led the horse back. She seemed to be silent but Nik knew that she needed some time to recover and he respected that. When she was ready, he was sure that she would tell him everything about her experience with the evil guy. A few minutes later, the princess suddenly remembered everything that happened and started to shake. She looked like she was about to have a nervous breakdown. Nik watched her with worry and tried to calm her down.

"Hey, my princess, please do not be scared. The bad guy is no longer able to hurt you. You did a great job of defeating him with one of my hidden daggers. That was a clever move.", he whispered, hugging her as she started to cry in his arms. He comforted her by gently stroking her silvery-black hair and they continued the journey. When she calmed down and started to feel more herself, she faced him. Very sweet and loving again.

"I... I... Did I just kill someone? I feel so ashamed. Nik, I'm so sorry that I was cold and cruel to you before. I didn't know what was happening. Thank you for believing in me and rescuing me. You're my prince charming, my hero.", she praised before tenderly kissing him on his soft lips.

"Don't worry my dear, I knew it wasn't your fault."

The young couple exchanged a sweet look. They were in love.

Back in the palace, the king and the queen were relieved to see that the princess returned safe and sound. The whole kingdom was happy about the good news and the princess's parents decided to throw a grand celebration. To celebrate the return of the crown princess and the defeat of an enemy.

The next night, the whole kingdom was in a festive atmosphere, even Nik Ryder and the new friends from the woods came. The curse was broken. They weren't animals anymore and were back in their real form. Almost everyone noticed how the princess and Nik passionately and specially glanced at each other. They started to dance together. At first, it was a waltz, but then the young girl decided to dance ballet on her own while everyone ended up just admiring her including her lover, Nik Ryder, Hero of Lamrian. They were officially a couple.

And they all lived happily ever after.

Author's note: It was supposed be a Women's Day Prompt: Powerful Woman for @choicesmonthlychallenge , but now I'm unsure if it even turned out well enough

Nik Ryder's face was all smiles as he entered the fae royal palace of Lamrian where he had been invited by his girlfriend, Lady Alexis Clarissa Fontaine, the new duchess of Lamrian.

The young duchess had all the power now in her hands. But Nik was a little worried that she might forget about him. But he pushed those thoughts aside. Once inside he walked up to a pair of guards.

"I'm looking for Alex... I mean Duchess Alexis."

One of the royal guards looked him over up and down for a moment.

"Are you her boyfriend, sir?"

"Yes, I am.", he confirmed.

After a minute the door opened and Alex approached him. Although now she wore a dress of light silk embroidered with threads of gold. She now the new duchess of Lamrian, but the woman in front of him was still the same Alex he had always known. With her hair in a braid tied with a ribbon, she looked at him with a smile that made him catch his breath. She hugged him back tightly, the smell of her perfume, her skin, her embrace filled his head.

Nik pulled back a bit and looked at her affectionately.

"I'm so very happy for you. You look stunning in that dress, even more so now that you're a duchess.", he kissed her in her cheek and grabbed her hand.

"I'm glad you're here, Nik."

"Of course I'm here, my love.", the young man gazed at her with admiration and desire. Then he hugged her tightly.

She was all smiles and leaned in, kissing him on his soft lips. Then the two started strolling inside the palace while Alex kept holding Nik's hand the whole time.

"This is all thanks to you, you know. If you hadn't been by my side supporting me all the time, I don't know what I would have done. You're the one who united me with my home. You're the one who found my long lost home and my father. I wish he would be alive now. He would have been so happy to see me as Lamrian's newest duchess.", she seemed emotional and very grateful towards her lover.

"I'll always be there for you, my love.", he raised her palm and planted a sweet kiss on it.

"Nik..."

"Yes, babe."

"Don't panick please, but...", she hestitated as if trying to find more courage to continue.

"What's the matter, love?"

"Nik, I'm a duchess now."

"Yeah, I know."

"I need to get married one day. Probably soon.", she wispered without meeting her lover's eyes.

"You what?!", Nik stopped his tracks and almost got pale. He watched her with a troubled look. "You can't be serious, darling?"

"Nik, don't you want to marry me?", she finally turned towards him, looking at him with sadness and hope.

"Because you once said you wouldn't be the man who wants to be bound in marriage, Nik."

He breathed hard for a second, and then he replied.

"Of course I want marry you, you're the love of my life. But I don't like what you're implying, that you don't consider me as your future husband?"

"Wait, what?? You want to marry be??!! Really?!!"

"Yeah, really. You changed my mind, rook. I can't imagine a life without you anymore and want to stay with you forever. And I definitly can't see you with anyone else than me. You're mine and I'm your's. I want to marry you one day. Not now, but someday.", he shyly confessed.

"Oh Nik!! You have no idea how happy I am to hear this. It's like a heavy stone has been lifted from my chest. Thank you, thank you, thank yoooouu. I love you!!!", she began to dance and twirled around him as if all her worries in the world disappeared.

"Love you too, my rook.", he chuckled as he saw her sweet reaction.

But then, she immediately stopped her little dance as she just remembered something ver, important and got serious now. "Then I have to convince the royal fae court for that."

Nik smiled and laughed a little. "There's no need to worry about it. They won't refuse the wish of their new duchess. Besides Lady Thalissa loves me. She knows about us, doesn't she?", he grinned, raising an eyebrow at her.

"Nik, it's just not normal for the other fae if their duchess is together with not only a human, but a nighthunter. You're a nighthunter, Nik!! You hunt supernatural creatures and well..."

Nik chuckled at her comment. "True, our relationship is a bit unconventional, my sweetheart. But I hope that doesn't matter to anyone."

"Uhhh...Well, I heard some of the court members trying to invite possible suitors for me", she got nervously answered while looking at the polished floors and then back at him.

Nik stopped for a second, his whole body tensed. "What do you mean? There are other people besides me who are interested in you? But don't they know that I'm your boyfriend? So that's why you asked me if I want to marry you, right?"

"Yes, I'm sorry. But you deserve to know about it now. I was just afraid, but I'm glad we're on the same page now.

Also, these other fae nobles just want marriage to strenghten their royal status. Nik, you're the one I truely want."

Nik couldn't help feeling jealous of the fact that other people were showing interest in his partner. He took a deep breath to calm his nerves and then decided to talk without fear. He looked her in the eye with determination.

"Well, that's too bad for these suitors because I intend to marry you. Do you think I'm going to let them be with you? I won't let that happen, my queen."

"I knew I could count on you, my love. But please, no drama in front of the fae court. Try to impress them."

Nik then laughed softly.

"No drama, I promise. Let's just go and I'll do my best to impress them with my appearance and words."

A few minutes later, they were introduced to the royal fae court. All of the eyes were set on them, analyzing Nik with his worn out leather jacket and the nighthunter weapons at his belt, and Alex with her glittery, golden dress. The suitors however, were looking at her and whispering something to each other. Their jealousy was not hidden at all. Alex got very surprised, didn't expected so many court members visiting her and asked the ones she knew about it.

"Those are potential suitors for you, my duchess.", one of the council members replied to her.

"Oh! They're here? Today?? Uhhh... Can't we postpone the meeting? I was about to present you Nik."

The room went silent and a few of the men gave him a disapproving look.

One of them stepped up and spoke. "Why? Is this man here our competition?"

One of the other men stepped forward as well to answer his question.

"No, he can't be a competition, he's not one of our rank. He's just a nighthunter."

Another fae man stepped forward in a loud and arrogant voice.

"Even worse! What are we going to do when we learn that he was with our duchess alone, what kind of things did they do? He's an outsider. A low-lander!! We cannot trust him, my duchess."

"Please, before I found out I was royalty, I was dating Nik. He's my boyfriend", Alex tried to defend him. Even Nik desperatly wanted to intervene and balled his hands into fists. He hardly couldn't stay silent any longer, but he didn't wanted to ruin Alex's reputation and remained quiet.

The men didn't seem to be convinced and one of them answered sarcastically.

"How can a commoner like him be with a duchess? I mean no offense your Highness, but he's no suitable husband."

Another royalty stepped forward and added something in a rude tone.

"Besides, what can he possibly offer? Money? Power? Status? Can he protect your kingdom? The answer is nothing."

"Nik saved my life from a bloodwraith. He truely loves me."

The men laughed at the answer, their smiles were filled with contempt.

"Love? You believe in these fairytales?"

"Well, my father, Lord Elric still loves my mother. This is no fairytale. Nik risked his own life for me against a deadly bloodwraith when I had nobody else and when everything seemed hopeless. He was there for me in the hardest times."

The men looked at each other and one of them said in disbelief.

"A deadly Bloodwraith? But how is he alive after that...".

"That doesn't matter, the point is that this man here has nothing to offer to you. Why don't you pick one of us instead? Like me?", one of the suitors said in a provocative tone, looking at Nik with condescension.

The other men laughed at his joke and some of them even joined him and started to make fun of him.

"Look at his worn out jacket, look at those weird weapons, those are not those of a knight of our fae kingdom."

"He probably spends all his time and money on hunting and killing useless monsters, right, boy?"

"You better shut your mouth or else...", he wanted to punch on the men, but Alex pulled him back, wanting to handle the situation by herself.

"See? This man is getting upset, he can't even control his emotions. He is not suitable for you, my lady."

"Nik and I dated before it got revealed that I was royalty. It proves that he's not after status and money. That he loves and respects me. With him, I'm happy."

"Your Grace, if you wish to take Mister Nik Ryder as your husband... Will he be ready to become our duke after getting married with our duchess?"

Nik seemed surprised and a little nervous at the sudden announcement.

"Wait, are you saying that if we get married I'll become a duke of Lamrian?"

"That's exactly the case. But as you probably know, there are several responsibilities that come with being a duke. Are you up to the task, mister?", the fae noble replied.

Nik was suddenly filled with many different emotions after the unexpected announcement. He thought about the responsibility and the burden that a such role would place on him. Then he looked at Alex as tears welled up in his silvery-gray eyes.

"If it means to be with the love of my life then... I would do it."

"Nik, are you sure? Look, we get married, but I can handle the duchy alone. You don't want to become a duke, right?", she intervened for his sake.

"Rook... I mean, my lady, it's impossible for you to handle a whole duchy all by yourself.

"Of course, I can rule over a duchy all by myself. I also have royal advisors and Thalissa by my side. Never underestimate the strenght of a woman."

"I know, you're strong. But that's still too much. I... I'll help you with anything. I promise. "

"Nik, you feel forced, don't you?", her girlfriend asked with concern.

Nik took a deep breath, trying to clear his thoughts. Then he answered truthfully.

"A little bit, to be honest. I mean I don't really want to be responsible for an entire duchy or fae colony. I would rather just protect its citizens as a night hunter.", he chuckled softly, feeling a bit confused. "But, I guess I might be able to handle the position if I do it by your side. You could teach me how to rule the duchy and I could learn and adapt quickly. Don't you think?"

"I'm still learning myself, Nik", she confessed.

"I know, but you already know more than me. I'm sure that you'll teach me well. Besides, the council will be there to guide us too. We won't be alone. I think. I hope that.", he smiled, showing his supportive nature. But deep down he was nervous too. He would do anything for her, because he wouldn't bare to see her with someone else than him.

The suitors and the council kept trying to force Alex to choose them as her partner. But she remained firm on her conviction and kept repeating that she wanted no one else but Nik.

The men were getting frustrated and they decided to take things to the next level. Instead of arguing, they just tried to convince Alex by presenting her with a large amount of gold and luxury goods. They tried to impress her by showing her rings and diamonds, but she didn't look impressed.

One of them even decided to up the game and presented her a large diamond necklace. It was a very pretty necklace and she had to admit it looked very good, but she still remained true to her emotions and stayed faithful to her beloved Nik. It became clear that they had failed to impress her, and it didn't help that she was getting anxious from all the attention on her. The council and suitors were getting irritated now, they couldn't believe that she wasn't swayed by the expensive gifts. But the more desperate they got, the more Alex stayed true to her heart. She loved only Nik.

The council members lost a little faith in the process and were very irritated by the whole situation. One of the suitors then approached Alex and said loudly.

"What's wrong with you? Don't you understand that the man you want as your husband is just a simple night hunter, he has no position or power.

Why not just pick one of us? We can offer you many more things than he can.", he explained while the other fae suitors agreed and nodded their heads. Two other suitors kept looking at her, trying to influence her with their eyes.

"You royal faes just decided to hold a meeting in my palace without my approval. Please, postpone this. My original plan today was to spend some time with Nik", she let anger take control over her. The fae seemed taken aback by the decision of the young duchess. She was very annoyed by them.

"Your pardon my lady, but this meeting is of the utmost importance. You don't expect us not to choose a partner for you? We have to think of the best for the entire kingdom.", one of the council members replied.

"You're the new duchess, it is your responsibility to find yourself a noble husband. If you fail to do so we'll be forced to do the decision for you.", another one spoke.

"If you have children with him they won't be able to possess any of our strengths, they will be like ordinary humans. Do you really want that?"

After this statement Alex felt taken aback and disappointedly turned towards Nik who's eyes met her's too.

"Nik, you... you didn't wanted to have children, right?"

Nik was a bit concerned about her sudden comment and then replied.

"My Love, I don't oppose being a father. I would be willing to have children with you if you want that. It is your wish that matters to me. But I only ask that you would at least consider the council's words and hear them out. They have a point."

"Nik, I only want you."

Nik smiled, it warmed his heart that his beloved did not value powers more than her feelings towards him.

"It means that I would rather be with you and have a family with you. Royal powers will not be necessary for you or our future children as long as we have each other. You and me, Nik."

Of course the fae weren't happy with her decision and still tried desperatly to convince their young duchess.

This time, Nik showed annoyance since this matter was becoming too insistent. He didn't like his beloved being forced.

He interrupted and replied boldly.

"That's pure nonsense! You can train royal guards, hire bodyguards and nighthunters like me can hunt down beasts and other supernatural villains to protect the fae realm."

The council members looked at him with surprise as he openly rejected their advice. And even more because it was him, a simple nighthunter who had the courage to speak his mind openly.

Nik didn't seem to care about their attitudes and replied proudly

"You can deny the truth and it is still the truth. Powers are not necessary to keep the kingdom safe, with or without them you can be protected. Besides, this decision is about what makes us happy. Why should we be forbidden?"

The men in the room got angry and one of them finally spoke.

"You dare to challenge our rules? You dare to go against our traditions?

Do you think that by saying some empty words we will be convinced? These traditions have been around for generations. The powers are vital and it is our job to make sure she is protected and that the kingdom is safe. You, as a commoner cannot offer her those things."

"I'm the duchess and I order silence!", Alex, the woman with power almost screamed, not wanting to hear another bad insult about her lover.

The men were caught off guard by her sudden order and the room got quiet. They were astonished that the young duchess would dare to challenge their authority as they were also curious about what she would say next. But before she could say anything else, she lost her balace.

Nik rushed to her, held her by her shoulders trying to steady her and make sure she didn't fall or get hurt. The men in the hall stayed silent and looked worried.

"I... I... I want to rest. Let this meeting be held in another day. I need to think."

Seeing that his beloved's stress was getting too much, Nik couldn't help but agree with her.

"Sure my love, just take some rest and feel better. We can always deal with this meeting at a future day. Your health is more important."

The other men kept quiet but they tried to give Alex a sign asking her if this meant that she was willing to reconsider her decision and listen to them instead.

At this moment, Alex was too emotionally overwhelmed to answer the council. She felt like she was about to faint just from the pressure they were putting on her. But the only thing that mattered to her was Nik's love and support. She looked at him with tears in her eyes, grateful for everything he was doing for her.

"Nik, go back home and rest. I'll rest upstairs."

Nik was reluctant to leave her alone, but finally gave a nod and replied.

"Alright my dear, I'll go. Please take some rest and take care."

After Nik left the hall, the council had mixed emotions, as they had not expected the duchess to resist their orders. Some of the royals seemed irritated and frustrated that she did not agree with them, while others seemed impressed that she had the bravery to stand up for her beliefs.

But they all decided to hold the meeting for another day when she would be more receptive to their words.

"Council members, we will meet next time.", Alex declared.

They all nod in agreement, as they knew that this matter was not over and they would have to convince the new duchess one way or another. Then they parted ways to go do their own errands for the day. Only one person remained behind, the one suitors who still wanted to impress the duchess. He looked at her from his corner waiting for a chance to talk to her.

"Servant, lead me to my chambers. I need to rest.", she called for help as she saw one of her helpers appear.

"Yes madam, right this way.", a fae loyal servant immediately stepped forward and replied. The fae took Alex's hand and led her upstairs to her chambers. Once inside her bedchambers, the servant quickly exited and closed the door behind. Alex was now alone, she only had a few moments of peace before the suitors would be back to try and win her heart.

Alex was feeling tired and dizzy and sat down on her gigantic bed. She had a lot of thoughts in her head and she felt overwhelmed by everything that had just happened. She was glad that she at least now got to rest, but she was still worried that the suitors were going to convince her to change her mind and abandon Nik. She needed to calm down and to collect her thoughts

The young duchess felt extremly exhausted from the mental and emotional stress. She had a long and difficult day. She needed a bubble bath to relax and ease her body's tension. She took her dress off and let it fall to the ground. She looked at herself in the mirror and began to prepare for the bath.

While she was doing that, many thoughts flooded her mind. Was she making the right decision by choosing Nik over the rich and powerful suitors? Would her children lack the strength to protect themselves in this cruel world? Would they even get born healthy? She was very anxious and worried...

Her mind was now more at ease as she was feeling the relaxation of her bath. Her body was submerged in the soapy bubbles. She let her thoughts wander and then she started to wonder just how strong her love for Nik was. She felt that she loved him as much as he loved her. But she was also feeling anxious about their future together. She was worried that she might be doing the wrong thing by going against society's norms and marrying a commoner instead of marrying a royalty. If only her father, Lord Elric was alive or Thalissa returned back from her trip, both would have definitly supported her and Nik. They would do anything for Alex and her happiness.

The soap and bubbles were gently massaging her skin and she liked the sensation of being so comfortable.

Her body was feeling relaxed but a sudden noise caught her attention. She took her eyes away from her own body, and tried to listen more carefully. She thought that she heard the sound of someone coming inside her chambers, but she wasn't sure. She felt paranoid about the thought of someone watching her while she was bathing. She quickly wrapped herself with a robe and got out of the bath. She was now feeling very nervous, and she wanted to confirm who it was, and if they had seen her naked.

"Nik? Is it you, my love. I'm here.", she hoped that it would be boyfriend who was allowed the only one allowed to enter her chambers. But then she realized that she sent him home.

She started to look around her room, but she didn't see anyone. The royalty sat down on the bed, now with a robe covering her body, starting to take slow and deep breaths.

Then she heard the door creak open and she couldn't stop herself from becoming more anxious. Her heart was beating quickly and she was ready to scream if anyone else came near her.

She instantly grabbed the robe covering herself and then she saw a person entering the room. She was about to scream, but then she was stunned to her spot as she recognized the man's face. It was the one suitors she disliked the most. He was now inside her room and she felt completely exposed, because she was naked under her robe. She was waiting for him to look or say something.

"Excuse me, such disrespect!! How dare you enter my private area? And this without my permission. Leave!!!!"

The suitor was now shocked and embarrased facing the duchess like this.

"I'm sorry, miss. I'm just here to express my love for you one last time. And I was hoping that we could talk, and that you would reconsider my offer of getting married."

"Our meeting got postponed regarding that matter. I command you leave my palace immediately.", she got furious.

"Oh, I see that it's time for your bath. What would you say if I joined you?"

"Excuse me, how you dare you?!! Leave!!"

The suitor became frustrated by her rejection.

"You know he is just a commoner, right? He doesn't even have the necessary strength to defend you. Whereas I am a royal and I have the strongest army in the kingdom. I'm stronger and more powerful than him, I can defend you better than no one, especially not a commoner."

"My Nik at least respects women. If you treat your duchess like this, how will you even treat your subjects or even your future wife? Now if you speak one wrong thing about my Nik, I will make you regret. I'll use all my powers against you. Leave!!! Leave immediately, or else I will scream!! The royal guards will marsh here immediately to save me. I'm going to order them to arrest you.", she exploded and threw a high-heel at him.

The man's arrogance was quickly replaced by pain as the heel struck him directly in the face. He held his face and looked at her with an expression of shock and anger. His voice was now full of fury as he replied.

"Do you know who I am? I could ruin your life if I wanted to. Don't think you can just treat me this way."

"And I'm a woman. A strong woman. A duchess and powerful magic wielder. I order you to leave my room immediately and never face me again!!! You're hereby banished from my palace and Lamrian."

His expression became terrified and he took your threat seriously. This was a dangerous woman that he couldn't get away from easily. He realized that he didn't want any trouble and he backed away before finally leaving the room and shouting on his way out.

"I'll be back for you, do not forget that. You'll regret treating me this way, I'll make sure of it.", he still felt angry about the high-heel she dared to threw at him.

"If my Nik finds out, he'll make you pay."

The man's face became red with anger and arrogance as he started to walk away but before leaving, he couldn't resist adding one last comment about her. He shouted one last time at her before finally leaving.

"I will find a way to make you fall in love with me, mark my words!"

After the fae noble finally left her room, Alex was alone and now she was feeling very relieved. But at the same time she felt frustrated and angry over the situation.

She then took deep breaths and looked down, feeling ashamed and guilty about her body almost being shown to another man after making a promise to only reveal herself to her beloved Nik.

She couldn't stop crying after the events that occurred within her bedchamber with the suitor.

A few moments passed before her boyfriend, Nik, walked in. It was clear that he had heard her shouting and he looked worried. As soon as he hurried inside, he instantly approached her and pulled her into a warm embrace. He was trying to calm her down and make her feel better.

"Nik?? I... I thought you went home?", she sniffed, not daring to look at him.

His expression became even more worried after hearing her tone of voice when she replied. When he held her close he noticed that her body was shaking and she was still crying. He quickly asked her.

"Is everything alright? What happened?"

"One of them entered my room without permission, trying to win over me.", she wispered without meeting his gaze while covering herself again.

He immediately understood and felt shocked at the same time. How could that fae even think about doing this? He wanted to know everything and let her tell what happened.

His anger skyrocketed as he understood it was a suitor. He was now even more furious that one of those men was the one who saw her like this and that he wasn't upstairs when this happened.

"Nik, please calm down!! It was all so sudden, but I know how to handle. I didn't gave a chance. I made sure he'll regret."

But the nighthunter didn't really feel like cooling down. His blood started to boil a little bit more when he heard her telling him to calm down.

"How can I calm down knowing that one of those suitors saw you like this?!!", he replied.

"Nik, I'm sorry. I tried... I... I'm fine. I handled everything by myself. I didn't let him touch me and managed to cover my body well. I'm so sorry, Nik."

Finally the young man let out a heavy sigh before turning to look at her, his anger was still present but her apology somewhat relieved him.

"It's okay, don't be sorry," he said, softly. "You had no control over the situation and you couldn't know that he would suddenly enter the room like that. You didn't do anything wrong."

"Nik, close the door.", she wished.

"Umm, okaaay?!", his expression became slightly confused when she asked him to close the door.

And he then closed the door and locked it, making the room feel even more private and safe. His attention then returned to her and he was trying to find a way to make her feel better, still holding her close.

"Nik, I don't want the servants to hear or know about our situation. They can be a bit snoopy."

"You're right, I think it's better if we keep this matter just between us. That way no one will know about it except for us. How are you feeling now?"

"Better. Now that you're here."

"Glad to hear that you're feeling better.

Just forget about the incident, that person who disrespected you is just nothing but a stupid nuisance. You don't have to worry about him ever coming near you again."

"Yes, Nik. Nobody will seperate us"

"Yes, you're right. No one, not even the most powerful man on the universe can separate us. We have a strong bound and it doesn't matter how strong whoever tries to separate us will be, they can never succeed. I swear, I will always be by your side and I will never let anything or anyone get in the way of our love."

"Fate is on our side. Because Fate united us."

He looked at her with genuine admiration and affection in his eyes. He liked the way she thinks and the way she saw their relationship.

"Damn, right. It's Fate that brought us together and we have a true bound between us. I mean... It's like we were made to be with each other and whoever tries to separate us is fighting against destiny itself.", he chuckled which made her feel better.

"Uhhh, Nik?", Alex noticed.

"Hmm?"

"Turn around, please. I still need to get dressed, my love.", she shyly added.

"Thanks, Nik. Now don't try to peak."

"I... umm... sorry about that." is face suddenly flushed with embarrassment. He immediately looked away, he just couldn't hide his blush. She was completely right and he couldn't control himself from taking one glimpse at her body. He kept his eyes.

While she was busy getting dressed, his eyes were still focused on the floor and he couldn't help but notice her beautiful curves. Her body had just no words to describe it. For her she was simply hot and he was feeling incredibly attracted to her, and the thought that she was now wearing nothing but her bra was not helping. He looked away, but then he peaked a little. Only a little. At the sight of her, she was having difficulties with wearing her gown. His heart beat increased and he felt like he had to help her. So he walked behind her and he tried to tie her dress in the back. He noticed that she had a very beautiful back, her body was like a work of art. He was now trying to tie the knot in the back but without letting her notice that he was looking at her back.

He was trying very hard to keep his eyes on the knot and not just on her body. He was almost finished with it when she suddenly leaned back her head, as if she was stretching to relax. Which in turn exposed her cleavage a little bit and it made his heart speed up even faster. She now moved away from him, straightend herself and turned herself to face her lover. She gave him a sweet smile before she spoke in a serious voice.

"Nik, thanks for everything. My love, but you must leave now. I do not want the servants or guards think that my desperate scream was because of you, which is not true. Hurry, before they see you at this time in my chambers. I don't want you get in trouble, my heroic prince."

The moment she suggested that he had to leave, he felt a bit disappointed, but he understood her thoughts. Both don't want anyone to assume he was the one who made her terribly scream out of fear which wasn't even him. Nik was a bit reluctant to leave her alone, but he was really careful to hide his sadness and disappointment from her.

"Yes, that may be better... The servants may get suspicious about me staying here late at night for too long. I'll be going then, my love."

With her lips pressed noe against his, he got overwhelmed with emotion. Her taste still made him feel butterflies in his stomach, and the thought of leaving her alone now filled him with sadness and worry, but he knew he had no other choice, so he reluctantly had to pull back from her lips after they had shared a long and romantic kiss.

"I'll be going now. I'll see you in the morning, my love.", he promised while holding her hand in his.

"See you tomorrow, my beloved."

When she called him her his beloved, he fell even more in love with her. Her words filled his heart with pure joy, and the fact that they would be seeing each other soon was such a relief. After one last tender kiss, he slowly took one step back, waved goodbye at her, and then silently left the room. Tomorrow they will meet again <3

After Nik led his girlfriend, Alex carefully through the dark woods, he finally removed the blindfold from her eyes. She gasped at the beauty in front of her. The fields were glade-green and the sound of chirping birds filled the air. Bees are murmuring in that strange cult hum and flit from flower to flower, surfing the short spaces as they go. The bayou was always so special for Nik, but this time he led Alex somewhere else, near the bayou. Mother nature is beautiful, but her eyes were focused on something else.

"Whaaa?! Are these...?"

"Welcome to the beautiful side of the supernatural and magical world, rookie. Forget your fears, nightmares and welcome this great side of this world.", Nik wispered and gently brushed her hair to the side while she got surprised of the sight in front of her.

Trotting towards them were a dozen of the most bizarre creatures Alex has ever seen. They had the bodies, hind legs and tails of horses, but the front legs, wings and heads of what seemed to be giant eagles, with steel-coloured beaks and large, brilliantly golden eyes. The talons on their front legs were half a foot long and deadly-looking. Each of the beasts had a thick leather collar around its neck, which was attached to a long chain, and the ends of all of them were held in the vast hands of a young man, who came jogging after the beasts.

"Nik!! How are you, my friend?"

"Hey Anton, I'm fine and you don't mind if I brought Alex along? She's new in this supernatural and magical world and didn't had the oppurtunity to explore the beautiful parts.", he introduced her to his friend.

Alex slowly stepped closer towards one of the majestic creatures and tried to touch one, but it quickly backed away.

"Are these Griffins?"

"No, Hippogriffs, but they're very similar to the Griffin with the horse rear replacing the lion rear. And that's Anton, my client and a good friend. A few years ago I helped him to track down the missing pegasi which were held captured by the Blight Brothers in Arizona."

"It was a dangerous mission, but you pulled it off. Nik, because of you not only the pegasi, also many other magical creatures were saved and gained back their freedom. I will never forget that.", the friend thanked the young nighthunter.

After hearing what Anton said, Alex gave her boyfriend a sweet smile, showing him how proud she felt. He shyly glanced back at her with a crooked smile on his face. Who knew that a young man giving the bad-boy-vibes with a dark past could be so golden at the same time? His heart, so pure and still he didn't like to show it and kept it hidden from the world. Risking his life to save others... Somehow she felt very grateful to call that man her boyfriend.

"Ummm, well, shall we head a little further to show Alex a few other species?"

"Wait, I want to pet this Hippogriff first before we go. Can I?", she gazed with pleading eyes. The friend immediately agreed.

"Sure. When humans approach Hippogriffs, a proper etiquette must be maintained to avoid danger. Hippogriffs were intensely proud creatures, and an individual must show proper respect by bowing to them, and waiting for them to bow in return before approaching. Eye contact should be maintained at all times, without a single blink. The Hippogriff should be allowed to make the first move. If offended, it might attack. Hippogriffs were tameable, but only by experts in their care like me. I'm a wizard. Although, Hippogriffs could also be fiercely loyal and protective of those who had earned their trust."

"Eeeek, I'm getting Harry Potter vibes from you right now. Nik, your befriended with a wizard which is soooo cool!!! Anton, can you do magic? Are you from Hogwarts?"

Nik chuckled because of the loud excitement of his girlfriend, while Anton got nervous and so did the Hippogriffs, but he quickly managed to calm them down.

"Raahhh!", one of the creatures answered in response.

"I can only do a little magic, because my main job is to take care of these creatures and no, I'm not from Hogwarts. Whatever that is."

"You're really doing a great job, Anton. Uuuhhh, but do I really have to bow to touch them?"

"Don't worry, these ones were well tamed by me. Just pet them, I'll hold them."

Again, she stretched her arm and placed her palm on one of the Hippogriff's feathers while Anton held it near her for support. She softly stroked the creature which stayed calm now and gave her a curious look. Even Nik decides to give it a try to pet it now.

"An amazing creature. Hey rook, you likin' it?"

"I love it, Nik. And I want to see more. Pleeeeeeease?"

Her puppy eyes and one "Please" already melted his heart and he asked his friend to give both of them a tour. The three of them walked further with the gigantic Hippogriffs following right behind until they reached the fields and the tiny house of Nik's friend. In the backyard of the wooden house, he showed them, the magical creatures, he has been protecting and taking care of before releasing them. Even keeping a close eye on them was important when the creatures were in the wilderness. To prevent any danger and to appear quickly for any rescue or help. Some magical animals even decided to visit Anton more often or even stayed with him, especially the way he gently cared about them.

"Anton, the bound between you and the magical animals... it's... it's amazing. Damn, it's outstanding!! And you're not even a fae which are already naturally bound with nature."

"Right said, Anton is the best!!", a mysterious voice answered.

Alex quickly turned around and realized that one of the Hippogriffs just... talked??

"Uhh, can Hippogriffs talk?"

"Uhhh, no. That was just a series of high-pitched whistling or piping notes like eagles always do. Hippogriffs are partly eagle as you can see."

"No, I... I heard real words coming from that bronze colored Hippogriff."

"Is that girl talking about me, Ash?", she heard the bronze colored creature answer again.

"I don't think so. Come on, let's eat something. I'm hungry.", the gray colored hippogriff talked now.

The gray colored beeing pulled at the long chains Anton was holding which were attached to it's thick leather collar and signaled him something. The young man immediatly gave in and got led by the Hippogriffs to see what they wanted. The wizard friend recommended Nik to show Alex a little bit around on his own. Nik's always welcome to his home. Then Anton left the two alone.

"I think Ash was hungry."

"Who's Ash?", Nik asked her.

"That's the name of the gray Hippogriff."

"Okaaaay, I don't remember Anton mentioning the name at all. Well, wanna see the pegasi next?"

She excitedly nodded and both of them were headed towards a field where beautiful winged horses enjoyed the fresh grass of the season and some of them even flew around. Before Alex could let out an excited shriek, Nik quickly covered her mouth with his palm.

"Shhh, we don't wanna scare them. Pegasi are mild-tempered, docile animals, unlike unicorns. A herd of Pegasi used to live in the Bayou, but now they're just a few of them. Since they're imbued with magic from heads to hooves, Pegasi are sometimes poached and sold to collectors or killed to be used for parts in spells."

"That's so sad, I'm glad you went to that mission in Arizona to save them. They're so beautiful and such majestic creatures, Nik. You know, I learned that Pegasus isn't a type of creature, it's actually the name of the winged white stallion from Greek mythology and while Pegasus was one specific creature, his name has often been used as a defining term for winged horses in general. Also, his role was to bring thunderbolts to Zeus."

"Damn, you're good. I love it when you speak intelligent stuff."

"Thanks. Just imagine that one day a pegasus will bring you your arrows."

"That would actually be cool, my intelligent girl."

"Oh Nik, I love it when you call me intelligent."

"Then why did you sometimes played the dumbass last year?"

His girlfriend gave him a playful nudge and he lets out a warm laugh after teasing her.

"But no, really, I like it when you praise me. You even once said that I'm powerful and strong. Like I'm no helpless princess anymore, waiting for her knight in shining armour or prince charming to come for rescue. And what you also said about the faes. That the faes need worship to the ground I walk on. But seriously, that line sounded very cheesy."

But Alex quickly realized that Nik's focus was somewhere else and followed his gaze. A white pegasus carefully trotted towards him. That majestic white stallion got carefully closer, but still watched the two of them from a safe distance. A crystalline droplet appeared out of nowhere and floated in the air beside the creature's eye.

By touching the tear, everything around Alex faded away and she find herself in an animalistic body. Having hooves instead if feet, gigantic feathery wings and the body of a horse. She saw a vision about the creature's past Everything in the perspective of the creature. The night had fallen already.

"Neeigh!"

Tied up with a rope, the pegasus was captured in a small cage in a dark room, seeking for food, fresh water and freedom like many other creatures around . Some of them are also the pegasi from it's own herd. The Blight Brothers have captured the pegasi after it left Anton's backyard to go for a flight.

"Don't worry pegasi of my herd, stallions and mares, I will find a way out of here.", it promised it's pegasi companions.

"We won't get free. I've been captured here for almost a week now."

The pegasi turned it's attention away from it's own herd and focused on the unicorn calling out. She was a beautiful mare, had white fur, a sparkly pink mane and a horn on the top of her head.

"My name is Sunburst, the leader of the pegasi herd in the bayou of New Orleans and I won't let any human steal our freedom from us."

"And as an leader you're still befriended with one human called Anton?! My name is Moonlight and I'm telling you, all humans are the same and..."

Their conversation got cut as a blond haired man suddenly began opening the cages and freeing all the captured animals in a hurry.

"Okay, time for everyone to escape before Scourge and the Blight Brothers catch us. Hurry off, to your beloved freedom!! Anton's going to be happy 'bout this."

"But... Isn't he working with the Blight Brothers?", the female unicorn wondered herself.

A feeling of happiness and hope appeared. One by one the young man released every creature from their cages and they immediately flew or ran towards their beloved freedom. When the last creature got freed, Sunburst, the pegasi leader suddenly discovered several men, the Blight Brothers appearing towards the human.

"You're a traitor, Carl Drogo!!", one of the men yelled at the animal rescuer.

"I'm not Carl Drogo, you bastards! I'm Nik Ryder, a nighthunter and your biggest nightmare!!"

As the Blight Brothers attack, the nighthunter kept fighting, threw punches and shot arrow after arrow to keep the bruisers distracted until the last creature made it's safe escape. But they're too many of them and they slowly began surrounding the bleeding hunter.

"Damn...", Nik silently cursed as he realized that he was in trouble. All the bruisers against him. He was alone.

But then... Sunburst, the pegasi leader came into action. Flying above the dangerous bruisers, it kicked and stomped with it's hooves to buy the hunter enough time to escape before leaving Arizona for good. And it worked!! While the animal kept the bad guys busy, Nik quickly took his chance to escape while looking after the winged horse. Making sure that it escaped too because he wouldn't allow it if it got captured again. And it worked!! Flying across the nightsky with the rest of it's herd, the leader of the pegasi hoped that the rest of the creatures and the mysterious nighthunter will be on their way back home too. Safely.

Then the memory of the underground trading ring dissipates around Alex like a mist and she found herself back in the woods in her own body. Without knowing, she was leaning against Nik. The white pegasi which the two of them were watching was already gone.

"Hey, what's the matter?", Nik, her boyfriend got worried and gently touched her cheek and leaned to make eye-contact.

"Aww, the pegasi is gone. And I couldn't even pet it, Nik."

"They're very shy, so it's gonna be very hard to pet one or even find one. I'm surprised that this one even dared to come that close to us. Well never mind, I can show you other cool creatures if you'd like. Maybe a tiny jackalope or some pixies?"

"How about unicorns?"

Sudden silence hang between them. After a moment he began to speak, but this time his voice heavy, jaws clenched and eyes drowned in her's.

"The hell!! I'm not even letting you near a unicorn, rook. They're dangerous and not like the ones from My Little Pony where everything is sparkle, glitter and rainbow. Unicorns are territorial and they attack whoever comes in their near unlike pegasi, rook."

"Not all are like that..."

"Oh yeah, met one before?!"

"Uhhh maybeeee..."

"Wait what?!! Where? When? Whyyy?"

"Uhhh, last month. But she was a friendly one and she even talked with me, relax. I guess beeing partly fae gives me the abbility to talk with animals and understand them. Isn't that cool?"

Without words, Nik gripped Alex softly by her wrist and pulled her with him through the dark woods, back from where they came from.

"Heyyyy, where are you taking me?!!"

"Headin' home."

"If you want to go home then leave, I want to explore..."

"Rookie, no."

"Rookie, yes!!"

"You never listen."

"You don't understand. Look how great this day begun and now you ruined the whole mood, Nik."

Gggrrll...

The girl bumped into Nik when he suddenly stopped walking after hearing a strange noise. Both of them got alert. A skeletal creature slinked out from behind the bushes and began hissing at the young couple. Nik protectively stood infront of her.

"Nik, what is that?!"

"Shhh, don't worry. These creatures have canine skeletons and are covered with moss or vines. They can be killed if their skulls or spines are destroyed."

"What do we do? You didn't brought your weapons along. How are we...?"

"You run, I'll handle."

"No way, Nik!! Not that again. Seriously?"

Nik tried to calm her down and pushed her away from danger, towards safety as the skeletal creature appeared closer.

"Gggrrll...", the skeletal creature aggressivly snarled.

Time seemed to slow down as it jumped in the air towards the young nighthunter and landed on him. Both crashed on the ground, the creature above the Nik who desperatly tried to escape its grip

"Gggrrll..."

The creature ready to strike...

"Nik!!", Alex panicked.

Without knowing, Alex stretched her arm, showed her palms where a light blast appeared and hit the moss creature hard. First the wood monster hestitated, then it decided to leave Nik and... to hunt his girlfriend down instead. This time, it lets a powerful shriek out while desperatly tried to signal her to run away.

"Ggggrrr..."

"Come here you freaky monster!!! You don't scare me at all. Let him go!"

Before the moss creature could reach her, Nik quickly leaped on the creature, preventing it from getting near her and at the same time letting out several strong whistles by pressing the tips of his thumb and forefinger together up against the tip of his tongue.

"Phhwwwht!"

While Alex got confused why Nik suddenly began to whistle, a majestic falcon appeared from the sky and flew towards Nik and the moss creature. It somehow began to help Nik by peeking angrily on the creature's skulls.

"Kack-kack-kack!"

Both struggling, while Nik and the falcon tried to fight it, but the monster kept biting and snapping to release itself from the hold. Alex had to do something quick before Nik gets more injured, the monster's claws made him already bleeding.

"Run, can't... hold... longer!", Nik desperatly begged her, but she decided to stay.

Alex remembered what had she learned in the fae realm and began to concentrate. Closing her eyes, she pictured a crystalline blade, radiant with golden light. Her fingers abruptly curled around the smooth, glassy warmth of a handle! After a while, as she opened her chocolate-brown eyes, she discovered to see a long, slender blade of light gleaming in her palm! She held her magical weapon with confidence and immediately knew what to do.

Swinging the weapon up and without losing more time, she sprinted towards the monster. With enough strenght while keeping a safer distance towards Nik and the mysterious falcon, she finally brought her sword down. Slashing through the creature's neck with a blow so hard, that the blade bit through the dirty ground.

"Hyyaaa!!"

The moss creature's body crumpled, twitching beneath her sword. Then, she picked up it's snapping head and blew it's glowing eyes like candles, and it's body fell still.

"Damn, that was hot.", Nik got impressed by his girlfriend.

Letting the creature go and letting her golden sword disappear with magic, the girl quickly hurried over to Nik who was still lying on the ground. Alex gently helped her boyfriend on his feet and assisted him to walk while the mysterious falcon flew away.

"I'm fine, it's just a little blood. Are you okay? Why didn't you ran away when I told...?"

"Because we're a team, remember? You told me that last year when I wasn't listening to you, right? And you're not fine, you're hurt! Let's get you somewhere safe. We are not far from Anton his house, right?"

"Yeah. And I'm fine, thanks."

The injured hunter gave her sly smile after she reminded him that they were a team.

"Nik, what was that before?? You whistled and then a falcon came... Uhh, how did...?? That was cool! Awesome!! That... That was... How???!!!!!", she couldn't believe what she just saw and asked him.

After a little silence, Nik finally spoke in a nervous tone while his eyes faced the ground as both of them were strolling towards the wizard's house.

"The thing is... The falcon and I share story. A past. When I was still living in Elijah's house in the woods, I found it. It was a tiny chick. Near it's nest I discovered two dead falcons, it's parents. And well..."

"Oh Nik...", she placed a hand on his shoulder for support. Afterall Nik his birthparents also died when he was a tiny child, so that little falcon chick reminded Nik of himself.

"Soooo yeah, I kinda raised the falcon. I named it, fed it, taught a few tricks and took care of it. Poor little fella' lost it's parents like I did, so I had to something. So just like Elijah took me, I took this falcon. Alex, you're the very first one I'm sharing this. And please don't share this embarrasing story to anyone, especially not Katy."

"But it's not embarrasing, it's heroic. You're a hero, Nik. A protector. But I see... You don't want your tough guy act be ruined, huh? Oh my Nik, you're such a hidden softie and I love you.", she giggled and pinched his cheek with love.

"Ouch. Hey?"

"You're welcome, dear. By the way, what name did you even gave your falcon pet."

"It's not my pet, rook. It's a free living creature, a friend and well... I named it... I named it Arrow."

"Arrow? Just like the arrows of your crossbow??"

"Arrow. Because this bird flies really fast just like a shooting arrow. Like really really fast, rook."

"I see. Not bad actually, Nik. Definitly better than any nicknames you give. Or should I say Nik-names??", she giggled while Nik rolled his eyes after hearing that bad joke.

"Stop it, rook.", he grinned.

"Fine... Oh hey, Nik!!"

"Hmm?"

"Since I met your wizard friend today, I was wondering... What Hogwarts house would you like to belong to?"

"What kind of question is that? From where did you got that idea?"

"Just answer!! I'm curious to know."

"Well, I don't know. Never thought about that. Would a Gryffindor suit me?"

"Oh definitly, but I actually see you more as a Ravenclaw because you know a lot of things."

"Me? Ravenclaw? You think I'm intelligent??", Nik surprised by Alex's opinion, so she decided to explain it more.

Nik Ryder was indeed a very brave man with enough strenght and courage. Life made him tough, but he also showed his knowledge and intelligence. Several times he came up with new ideas, suggested what to do next and got into the leader role very well without noticing. By staying loyal to his companions and thinking about every next step, he lead his friends through adventures. He was the one and only who found out about Alex's missing father, her mysterious benefactor and that she was fae royalty instead of an ordinary human. Mysteries and puzzles solved all thanks to him, she explained.

"So yes, these are the reasons why I think a Ravenclaw would suit you too. Means I have a very clever boyfriend.", she praised.

"Oh yeah? Thanks, my dear girlfriend. And you're definitly a Hufflepuff.", he winked.

On a cold winter day in Wyoming, the young couple in their formal business wears stepped inside the elevator, pressed the button to reach the highest floor of the crystalline building. They're soon to meet and enter the office of Jacqueline Fontaine, mother of Alex Clarissa Fontaine.

"Looking handsome today, Nik. Like a real business man.", she praised Nik's new outfit. Both of them carried their wet winter coats in their arms.

"Have to look great if I want to impress your mom, right? And you look like a real business woman, rook.", he confessed to Alex who wore a light blouse, a black skirt and matching heeled boots.

"Thanks, Nik. My mother is a businesswoman, so why not show some respect, huh? She likes a formal dress code. Besides, don't forget to behave yourself too. The look isn't the only thing that matters."

"I always behave myself, rook. You sayin' this to me?? I'm a total gentleman. No big deal, relax. Let's just quickly make out a bit in the elevator before someone else enters it. Besides, it'll take time till we reach the top of the building. So why not enjoy a bit and loosen ourselves?"

"Niiiiiiik, behave. Not in my mom's office.", she rolled her eyes and he chuckled as she delivered a soft, playful punch on his shoulder

"Just kiddin', rook. Don't worry. But... You look so damn hot today that I would like to. Not my fault that you're ruining the gentleman inside me.", he mischievously smiled at her.

As the two reached the highest floor, they left the elevator and walked hand in hand towards the dark, wooden door with a metallic name plate on it. It said: Jacqueline Fontaine's Office (Accountant & CEO). (-> Pinterest moodboard here)

"We're here. You nervous?", she asked him and knocked lightly at the door.

"Maybe a little. Damn, she's a successful business woman. She must have high standards and I... Now, I’m really nervous to meet your family. What did you tell your mom about me?"

"Uhhh, that you're a hot police officer. I mean... I couldn't tell her that you're a nighthunter, right? The supernatural world must be a secret for the safety of both worlds. And umm, a police officer seemed to be the closest related to your job, right?"

"Guess so. Hey, why isn't your mom opening?"

"Hmmm, guess I didn't knock loud enough or she isn't here.", Alex wondered and decided to open the door herself.

With Nik close behind her, she stepped inside the office where her mother was sitting at her large desk, but she wasn't alone. In front of her were her clients who were probably discussing a business matter with her. Alex's mother was surprised when she suddenly saw her daughter in front of her. The mother wore a light blouse and a short, black skirt. Earrings were hidden behind her black, shoulder-length hair. Her fair skin was covered with make-up. For her age, the woman has definitely held herself good.

"Alex??! Dear, what are you doing here all of a sudden? I'm having a very important business meeting. Very important, dear.", she signaled to leave.

"But... But you wanted to meet us and..."

"Later, darling. Later, not now. Wait in the hall for me. And next time, you better knock before entering.", she stood up and ushered her and Nik outside of the room to leave. The door got closed in front of the two.

"Damn, that was... rude. Rook, didn't you inform your mom that we were coming? Was there an exact time planned or..."

"Shut up, Nik!!! Quiet!!! I'm super annoyed and disappointed right now!!! And of course, I informed her!!! The fact that she's the one who invited us.", she faced him with anger which made Nik worry.

Of course, she wasn't mad at him, but somehow he felt hurt by her harsh words like shutting him up. They rarely had a fight and if they were arguing, then it was often how overprotective Nik was or how Alex put herself into danger again.

"I... I'm sorry, rook.", he looked away and both took a seat on a nearby couch in the waiting area. For a few minutes, it was total silence between the couple. Nik waiting for Alex would calm herself down. When he finally looked at her, he saw her wrapping her arms around herself and rubbing them against her body while closing her eyes.

"Rook, are you okay?", he got worried and moved closer for a hug.

"It's cold. I hate winter."

"I was born in winter."

"I hate the winter, not you. I'm sorry how I yelled at you. Now please, take me home."

"But we just arrived in Wyoming, rookie. The flight took five hours and... Who told you to wear a skirt? Suffering for fashion."

"I know, I know, I regret that too. Let's... let's go to my home in Wyoming. My mom's home. Let's take our luggage back from the reception downstairs and go.", she finally opened her chocolate-brown eyes to meet his.

After the young couple in their winter coats collected their luggage from the receptionist who was so kind to take care of it, so they didn't have to carry or roll it around. She also handed Alex a mysterious envelope and gave directions to the nearest bus stop.

Both put on their winter gloves while they waited for the bus outside in the cold until it arrived. It was already full of passengers, so they had to stand and hold on tight. The gloved hands tightly wrapped around the holding loops as their bodies were pressed at each other's.

"Why's the bus so full?", Alex got upset.

"Hey, cheer up. At least you're stuck here with me.", he tried to lighten up her mood, and removed his hand from the holding loop to hold her which made her smile.

After a short drive, Nik and Alex arrived in front of a nice family house. It was a sturdy two-story residence designed with a wide garden, large balconies, a screened-front porch, and a free-standing garage. A few CCTV cameras guarded the property, but that wouldn't stop Alex from entering her own mother's home where she spent most of her childhood.

"Nice place, rookie", he let a low whistle out while he inspected the property.

"Oh yeah? Wait till you see the penthouse my adoptive father gifted my mom on their anniversary. Now would you come over here and give me a lift?", she requested while trying to reach the nearest window of the house.

"Uhhh, where are the keys?"

"I don't have the keys, Nik. I gave them back to my mom after I decided to move out, silly.", she giggled and desperately tried to reach the open window but failed. Instead, her heeled winter boots made her slip, but Nik quickly managed to catch her and prevent her from falling.

"But Alex, we can't just break in like this. That's illegal and right now your mom might be seeing us through these cameras she has placed around the house while sitting in her office. And the neighbors..."

"The neighbors know me unless they're new. Besides I'm Jacqueline's daughter, so everything that belongs to her belongs to me. Well, maybe not everything, I think. But don't worry if the cops arrive, I'll talk to them. So could you just real quick climb through the window, enter the house, and open the front door, please? I'm freezing."

"But your mom wouldn't be impressed by me. She'll hate me. I want to show her my best side, rook. I can be a true gentleman too."

"Would a true gentleman let a lady freeze in the cold outside?"

"Okay, fiiiine. I'll try that, for you. I may not like it, but I'll try it."

And with that Nik began to climb a tree near the building and slipped through the nearest open window inside Jacqueline's house. It would have been much easier if he wasn't wearing the nice, formal clothes and the new winter coat that Alex bought him for this trip. When he finally landed on stable ground, he searched for the light switch in a dark room. When he found it, he turned on the light and discovered that he was standing in a kitchen.

"Guess Jacqueline is expecting guests today.", he wondered as he saw preperations for food and beautiful table decorations on the table.

Without losing any time he began heading towards the front door of the house to quickly let Alex inside. Poor girl must be already freezing outside. As he moved his hand towards the handle to finally open the door, he froze. He heard a clicking sound appearing from outside and the door lock began to move.

"Damn, someone's opening the door. Alex's mom is here!!! I'm doomed. I'm soooo doomed. Worse gentleman ever. She caught us and she'll..."

"Who caught us?"

"Alex?!!! How did you?", he couldn't believe his eyes that the one who was opening the door was Alex. She's alone. Nobody was standing behind her and she was holding the keys of the house in her hand.

"Nik, I just remembered. Mom did give me the keys to her house!! Remember the receptionist? Mom delivered her second key through the receptionist to me. That's what was inside this envelope the whole time. Mom just texted me, she'll stop here by later.", she victoriously smiled while holding the key in front of Nik's face.

"I can't believe you, rookie. You're full of surprises.", Nik akwardly ran his hand over his hair, took the luggage from her and carried it inside as she closed the door from behind. Both rub the dirt away from their boots on the rug, get off their winter gloves and hang their coats on an empty standing clothes rack.

"Yup, sorry that you had to climb. Now we're inside, so we can relax a bit. I'll show you the house."

"I already saw the kitchen. What I'm interested to see is your room? I bet it's upstairs.", he grinned, left the luggage in the hall and already sprinted upstairs.

"Don't you dare, Nik!!!", she quickly followed behind him to catch him.

"Stop me if you can, rook!!"

"Holy light... So much... pink?", his eyes got wider as he stood inside Alex's childhood room and analyzed his surroundings.

The children's room was still in good condition and looked very cozy. The pink-painted walls were decorated with pictures and posters of flowers and majestic horses. Even the blankets, pillows, and sheets on the bed were pink. Almost everything was pink, white, and lavender colored. Soft plush animals were lined up on the bed. A white plush kitty, a pink plush bunny, and more little cuddly friends.

Nik moved closer to a book shelf, bending a little down to inspect the books. Children's books about princesses, fairies, unicorns, and other fairytales.

"I always dreamed to be a fairy, talk to animals and save the world.", Alex leaned against the doorframe and explained. Her eyes shimmered with happiness as she got reunited with her past and the beautiful, old memories she had as a little girl.

"Well, your dream came true. You're partly fae. Royalty and with your powers you can do anything. Even save the world."

"Yeah, somehow you're right. Just the fairy wings are missing. I wish I could fly."

"But you get to fly on a dragon in the fae realm."

"Hmm... Well... I also dreamed of a prince. My dream prince, a prince charming who will take care of me, make me happy and shower me with love. Just like Prince Phillip and Princess Aurora from Sleeping Beauty. But instead, I got the Prince of Swords. I got you, Nik. And I wouldn't trade it for anything because I love you just the way you are.", she happily confessed, moved closer to him, and rested her arms around his shoulders while he pulled her even closer till their lips were about to meet.

"You're truly a beauty, Alex. I love you too and I'm glad you came into my life. You're... you're so damn perfect. You're gorgeously beautiful, my princess. No, you're my Queen.", he got closer and moved his arms around her waist. His cheeks leaned to hers as he planted a kiss.

"Oh, Nik...", she leaned closer to him and grabbed the black tie he was wearing. Nik Ryder looked like a handsome gentleman today. Since she saw him in this formal suit. Well groomed and the masculine smell of his long-lasting perfume which she couldn't resist, so she started kissing him.

"Careful, I don't want to be covered with red lipstick marks. Your mom wouldn't...", he tried to warn her, but didn't pull away. He couldn't resist her either. He wanted more and closed the distance between them. He is all over her. His arms are around her and his lips seeking her's. She couldn't resist and he couldn't resist. The two of them are locked in a passionate embrace, feeling the hot closeness of their bodies, and enjoying the sensations the other evokes. Lost in that moment.

Yet it’s not enough, and Nik was feeling it too. He eventually broke away from her and looked deep into her chocolate-brown eyes.

"I don’t want to talk anymore," he confessed intensely and led her to the bed. "I want you, Alex. I wanted you before too. Now. Here. With me."

Soon enough, both tumbled onto the bed and proceeded to explore one another, discovering which touches were the most pleasing. Nik was everything she fantasized he would be and equally committed to giving pleasure as receiving it. Alex didn't care anymore that she was lying with Nik on her large childhood bed. And surprisingly it was enough space for both of them.

Together they stoked the fires of desire until neither of them could bear it anymore. They came together again and again. The feeling of being as one is all-consuming and they almost lost track of all time.

In the end, both let the waves of pleasure cascade over each other and then collapsed into one another’s waiting arms.

Nik looked into her face, his eyes slightly wide and an expression of almost awe on his face. "You're so… incredible."

"So are you, Nik."

After an intimate moment and some kisses, they finally pulled away from each other and headed back downstairs.

"Alex, you're so smokin' hot. I want you to seduce me. Let's... let's... let's continue this later.", he whispered.

"Nik, you're being so naughty right now. In my mom's house? Where is your gentleman's behavior now?", she giggled and gave his shoulder a soft punch.

"I have fallen under your spell, my beautiful Queen."

"Yes, my King."

After Alex showed Nik the rest of the house. Both entered the living room at last where they were greeted with a small hiss. On a nearby shelf, there was a small, green snake in a terrarium watching them which made Nik a little nervous. Jacqueline's pet snake, Slitter.

"Guess, it doesn't like us. Very typical. Slitter only likes my mom and nobody else. Still wishing it was a cuddly kitten or bunny instead of a snake."

But Nik got busy admiring the family photos hanging on the wall. The young people in the picture were looking so happy. A happy family. A family he also wanted to have and share his childhood and memories with, but unfortunately he lost his parents when he was way too young. Then, his eyes fell on the tiny, silver-haired girl in the picture smiling.

"Rook, you look cute. And your silvery hair...?"

"Yup, that's me standing with my mom and my adoptive father in front of the Christmas tree. We celebrated Christmas every year together here and I got a lot of presents. I miss those times because now we barely have time for each other. Always busy with business and work. And, yes, my silvery hair... Nobody believed me that it was my natural hair color. That I was born with it.", she answered while trying not to get too emotional in the sudden flow of memories.

"Silver. You got the black hair from your mother and the silvery-white from..."

"My dad, Elric. Yes. Yes, I figured it out too. Later when I found out about the existence of my father. I... I still can't believe how my mom hid this from me. She told me that after my birth my father died and...", she almost cried and felt Nik's arms around her body trying to comfort her.

"Shhh, I'm here Alex."

"Oh, Nik... I..."

"Alex, my dear.", a sudden voice appeared which made Alex and Nik turn around to see.

"Mom??!! You're here??!! Since when? We didn't hear you coming.", Alex panicked just as Nik and both separated from each other's embrace. Nik's cheeks turned softly red out of embarrassment and secretly hoped that Jacqueline didn't find out about his and Alex's doings upstairs.

"Misses Fontaine, it's a pleasure to finally..."

"Alex, I just entered the house and I already heard everything I needed to know. So you found out about the secret of your biological father? Oh, of course, you would one day, especially when you decide to stay in crazy New Orleans.", she interrupted Nik to explain herself.

"Mom, why?"

"To protect you. That's all, to protect you!! New Orleans, is that crazy place... Kristin and you just had to go there to celebrate your 25th birthday. Dear, you have no idea what I have been through all. Nothing is as it seems there. It's dangerous and New York isn't safe anymore either."

"Mom, you know... about the supernatural world?"

"Don't say anything more. I don't want to think or talk about this matter right now. You're the only person I care about and have left in this world now with the recent death of your adoptive father. I love you and I don't want to lose you too."

"Not when she has me.", Nik confidently stepped closer to Alex and embraced her and gave Jacqueline a reassuring smile. Alex's mother easily forgot her worry and smiled at the man.

"You must be Nik, my daughter's boyfriend? You seem aware of this world too. I hope you will keep my child safe."

"Of course, I'll take care of Alex. I'll protect her and always be by her side. Nothing will harm her on my watch, I swear. And yeah, I am aware of the World of Night. I lost my parents at the hands of monsters. They got killed in front of me when I was a child. I was the only one who survived.", he felt to explain his matter towards Jacqueline even though it hurt to bring back old memories.

"Oh, I didn't know. Poor Nik child, I'm so sorry to hear. Alex and I will be your family from now on. Besides, we're not actually here to remember the past. Let's focus on the future. I'm Jacqueline Fontaine, the beautiful mother of my beautiful Alex. Please, take a seat on the couch in the living room, I'll bring something to eat. I made you two some hot chocolate too."

"No need for that, we'll have together dinner anyway. Thanks for this invitation, Misses..."

"Just Jacqueline would be fine. Please note these formalities with me even though I am a successful businesswoman and accountant. Such a gentleman you are, Nik. We're family and with Christmas just around the corner, I'd love it if the two would stay longer with me till the holidays end. I never thought I would feel so lonely.", she confessed which surprised Alex.

"What if you get busy with work again?", Alex asked.

"Dear, family comes first and I should have realized that years ago. I'm sorry what happened today in my office, but my client... well... he wasn't easy to handle. But I feel so ashamed that I couldn't give you the time and attention you deserved since you were a child. That your adoptive father had to look over you because I couldn't. You're my everything and the only thing I have left now. I might have not liked suddenly being pregnant and I wasn't happy, but your adoptive father supported me. He helped me by giving you a chance and I don't regret it. I love you, Alex. I love you so much, darling. You remind me of your father, Elric. I still love him and I hope he hasn't forgotten me."

"Oh Mom, love you too. I thought... I always thought I'm not good enough for you.", Alex crashed into her mother for a hug while tears welled up in her eyes.

"Shhh, my darling. Quiet. You're here now with me and I'm glad Nik brought you to me. I'm thankful for you. I'm thankful for having you with me, sweety.", Jacqueline whispered and moved her eyes towards Nik. The man was silently standing in front of them and then left to give mother and daughter some privacy.

"Mom, there's one thing you should know... I personally met my father, Lord Elric in Lamrian.", she confessed which surprised Jacqueline because she would never have expected that.

"How did you find him so easily? Or how did he recognize you? Is he okay?"

"He... He... He died, mom. I just found him and then I lost him. We only shared a few hours, but they were beautiful ones. Truly the best.", she sniffed.

"No!! No... It can't be... How could this happen? He... I still love him and I can't believe he's gone. I should have visited him, but I was such a coward to face New Orleans again. Poor Thalissa.", she deeply regretted and wiped her tears away.

"Mom, Elric sacrificed his life to save mine from a bloodwraith. If it wasn't for him, I... I would probably be dead already."

"A bloodwraith? That's impossible!! How? Don't return there any..."

"That's okay, mom. The bloodwraith got defeated and everyone is safe now. It's safe now. And Elric still loved you and shared beautiful stories and compliments about with me you. He still remembers you.", she reported which gave Jacqueline a positive and warm feeling. That the kindest man who ruled over her heart still loved her, even though she already moved on with someone else.

But there was also more to share. That Jacqueline's daughter, Alex was not only a half-fae but also the next heir of Lamrian and that she unlocked her magic powers with the help of Lord Elric. She can do magic. Maybe she'll tell this Jacqueline another time and not everything at once. Besides, it was time to let her mother explain how she got plunged into the supernatural world. What's her story?

When she asked, Jacqueline's expression turned bitter and she decided to tell this another time. Not now. Now it was time for joy, to have a great family bonding time, and get to know her daughter's boyfriend better. She called Nik back and all three were seated on a fluffy sofa in the living room, having hot chocolate to drink and stories to tell. Jacqueline excitedly showed Nik her family album and pointed at the pictures.

"This photo was taken by Alex's adoptive father after Alex was born in the hospital. The nurses were so amazed that she had so much hair already. Ooooh, look how cute my baby looks wearing a gown in that picture. Like a mini-princess.", she enjoyed Nik's company.

"She was a cute child indeed and she's still beautiful."

"Thanks to my fae genes.", Alex added.

"Right, that's my baby girl. The prettiest baby of all. Such a natural beauty. When she sleeps, she's basically a Sleeping Beauty. Oh, have I told you the story where we were traveling to Dubai and how she played with her mouth out of boredom because we had to wait? I don't know if it was Dubai, but definitely somewhere in that region. She made that weird noise which made the police officers laugh and then, they let us enter first. Ha! Or the story where she was wearing squeaky shoes in the supermarket which irritated the customers who were trying to find the source of that noise? Ooooh, I have another story where little Alex stole a high heel from a shoe shop."

"Mooooommm??!! I was sitting in a baby stroller. It happened by mistake.", Alex freaked out a little which made Nik laugh.

"A high-heel for a baby??!! Hahahaha!!! Didn't know you were a huge troublemaker since childhood, rook? Jacqueline, Alex hasn't changed a bit. Still the same cute and naughty girl. A total trouble-maker."

"Nik!!! Very funny. Laugh how much you want. Mom, tell him the whole story like you told it to me. I picked up the high-heel to play with it in my baby stroller. You didn't notice till we got home and went back to return it.", she explained.

But Jacqueline was too excited and continued with Alex's childhood stories and showed several pictures. Baby pictures, pictures when her daughter was a toddler, and school pictures till teenage life.

"Nik, isn't my Alex so beautiful? I hope my grandchildren will also be lovely babies like Alex.", she said which made Nik and Alex turn red. Nik immediately tried to change the topic and pointed at another picture.

"Uhhh, well... I... Oh wow, Alex was a cheerleader at high school? How athletic. That might explain some of the moves she got."

"I was doing martial arts as well, Nik. When I was a child before joining high school.", Alex proudly added.

"Hey, did you make that weird noise with your mouth again? The one you did in front of the cops? Could you show me that, please?", he smirked which made Alex a bit angry.

"Nik, you...", she hissed as he made fun of her.

"Alex, behave yourself!! Nik was just being friendly. He's my guest. Be nice to him.", Jacqueline wished.

"Sorry, Alex. I was just enjoying your childhood stories."

"Wait till I ask anyone about your own embarrassing childhood stories, Nik. Or anything spicy."

"Who will you ask?", he raised an eyebrow.

"Oh, I'll figure it out somehow.", she confidently smirked at him and winked. Sweet revenge as they say.

After an eventful evening, the three had a delicious dinner together in the dining hall. Nik already knew secretly what food Jacqueline cooked for them since he was the one who climbed up the window which led him to the kitchen.

As the cold winter night descended, they were all getting ready for bed. Jacqueline requested Alex to sleep in her childhood room and Nik in the guest room before she went to bed. The young couple kissed to have a good night to each other before heading towards their rooms. After all, they agreed to stay with Jacqueline till Christmas to make the lonely woman happy.

"You know Nik, when my mother said that you're our family now... I think she already accepts you as her son-in-law.", she giggled, ran away and left him alone, wide-eyed with an open mouth.

"Alex! Hey, come back here. Youuuu... Wait till I find you under a mistletoe, you little troublemaker."

After Christmas...

"Oh Tonya, my friend, this year I had a wonderful Christmas. I celebrated with my daughter who I hadn't seen for so long. Today she's leaving with her boyfriend, but she promised to visit again and call me more often. And I will definitely visit her too and perhaps stop by to see you too, my friend. I'm just so glad to be united with her again. All our misunderstandings are gone now. How were your holidays, Tonya?", Jacqueline was talking with an old friend from New Orleans on the phone while admiring the decorated page her child created for the photo album with the title "Alex's Winter in Wyoming with Nik."

In the meantime, Alex and Nik were outside to enjoy the winter weather. Both were standing in their ice skates on a frozen lake and holding each other's hands, as Alex was trying to teach Nik how to ice skate. She was an excellent skater and wanted Nik to have some winter fun and try something new.

"Nik, you're doing great. Try to hold... Woaah!!", she fell on Nik as he suddenly lost his balance and crashed with her on the ice. Their faces were near as Alex was lying on Nik.

"Sorry rook, I..."

"Shhh...", she got closer to him until their lips met each other's to a passionate kiss.

"You look beautiful, dear.", a soft voice said. Lady Thalissa, the duchess of Lamrian entered Alex her chambers and gazed at the beautiful floral gown her stepchild was wearing with a tiny tiara like a princess on her head.

"Is my make-up alright? I also wore matching high-heels today in case..."

"Don't worry, you look great.", she squeezed Alex back tightly, then drawed back to hold her at arm's lenght and smiled.

"Thank you, I... I'm just a bit nervous. It's my very first garden party as the heir of Lamrian. Well, it's not just any small garden party. It's a royal garden party. How many will...?"

"Dear, you have nothing to worry about. Just enjoy yourself. Make contacts and form new alliances to strenghten Lamrian. Today you are the star.", Thalissa explained and led her outside in the palace garden of Lamrian.

Outside everything was decorated with colorful flowers and pixies flew around for entertaining themselves and the guests. Lady Thalissa has organized a royal garden party in Lamrian and invites some fae friends, royals and nobles. Her main goal was to strenghten their bound and friendship with friends and allies of the duchy. Everyone including Alex were wearing floral costumes, suits or gowns to match with the party theme and celebrated the birth of the spring season. Peacocks elegantly strolled around the garden and showcasted their natural beauty. The guests were having a great time playing games, for example: Royal croquet, Pixie Ball and more. Some even decided to play instruments to make music for a more lively atmosphere while others danced to it.

Everything was so beautiful for Alex, but also a bit overwhelming. Wouldn't it be great to share such a beautiful time with her friends or a special someone? While Lady Thalissa, the duchess greeted and mingled with her guests, Alex tried to do the same. Afterall Lamrian hosted this party which means for Alex and Thalissa to make sure that everything runned smoothly and there should be no complaint from any guest. Showing her friendliest smile Alex, the future heir of Lamrian tried her best to get know the rest of the fae royals and nobles. Some seem very polite and friendly to her and welcomed her warmly, but then other nobles tried to avoid her or even ignored her. For them she seemed to be an outsider, no full-blooded fae, a regular human who shouldn't be worthy to rule one day as a duchess over Lamrian and become a member of the royal fae court. But hopefully one day Alex could prove them wrong.

"Alex, dear... Would you like to play the violin for the guests? I once heard you playing alone in your chambers and it was truely beautiful", Lady Thalissa, her stepmother encouraged her and ordered a fae servant to bring a violin from the royal music hall.

It was a beautiful golden instrument decorated with expensive, little gemstones. Something that Alex has never seen or touched, but it wasn't her own violin from back home. Her own familar instrument which her mother, Jacqueline gifted her and shared beautiful memories of mother and daughter making music together. She loved her instrument and always brought it with her while travelling. It must be lying somewhere in her royal chambers upstairs. Lonely and untouched.

It was strange for her to hold another violin and not her own. The violin she shared so many memories with and always calmed her down when she was was alone, sad or even crying. Her loyal little instrument upstairs waiting for her. It may look like a regular violine. Not golden with pretty gemstones, but for her it was her loyal companion. Now it's too late for Alex to rush upstairs and get her own violine, because now several fae nobles and royals curiously glancing at her and waiting for her to finally play. Before, she only played for herself and never for others, but now... Her music guided her and expressed her feelings and emotions. Her music was only her's. But if she has to play for others, then she will. For Lady Thalissa who wasn't aware of Alex her thoughts and feelings to play infront of a crowd, so she was definitly not to blame. She'll play for her and Lamrian. For her beloved father, Lord Elric who passed away but trusted her that she will do well as his heir.

She smiled at the servant who handed over the violin and started to prepare. How will this violin play? Just like her own one or diffrent? What if something goes wrong? No. No, just calm down!! Don't panick! Just some powerful faes standing infront of her which she has to impress and bound alliances with. No big deal, right?

Alex was making her way towards the middle while almost tripping over her heels. Calm down, Alex. Just walk confidently and don't fall on the ground. Everyone is watching. You don't want to embarrass yourself infront of the whole court.

Finally she made it and carefully sat on a golden swing bench, decorated with roses. Her favorite flower. Taking a deep breath, she began to play. Everyone got quiet to hear the slow and peaceful music beeing played.

She closed her eyes, imagined to be alone and focused only on herself. Everything around Alex faded away. It was only her and the violin left. And with grace, she masterfully concered every note, every tone.

They all listened to her till the very end. She finished with the last silent and sad melody at the end and opened her eyes only to face a thundering crowd infront of her clapping with her hands. Wobbling on her legs, she slowly stood up from the swing bench and gently bowed.

"Wonderful, my dear. It was beautiful.", Thalissa called out.

"Thanks. If you'll excuse me, I'm going to take a short stroll alone for a while.", her stepchild requested while handing back the violin back to the fae servant.

And so she did. Taking a short walk around the royal garden, the young heiress decided to take rest on a bench in a secluded area. A familiar creature caught her eyes.

"Tinkerbell, did you followed me?", her lips formed a smile as her perrikin closed the distance and nuzzled against her legs while she scratched the back of the creature's fluffy ears.

"The prince is here", the pet purred.

"What? What prince?", she asked her future-telling pet.

"The Prince of Swords", it purred again before it left chasing a butterfly and left.

Before Alex could react, she felt a strong arm embracing her and pulling her closer.

"Hey, let me...", she was about to say something until she found a strange figure facing her.

It was a young, fair-skinned fae wearing an elegante royal suit who mischevously smiled at her.

"What is the meaning of this??!!", she commanded and pushed the man away.

"I want you.", he answered in a sad tone.

"Don't you dare or else I'll scream to call the royal guards. They'll protect me and make sure you'll..."

"Your bodyguard can protect you better, my princess."

"Huh? How do you know that... Waiiiiit, Nik Ryder??!!! Nik, is that you??!!!"

She realized that the man was Nik, but he looked diffrent. He looked like a fae noble.

"Nik, what the hell??!", she got scared and took a few steps backwards.

"Hey, don't worry. I don't happen to be secretly a fae prince or something. I was always human. It's all fake. Garrus borrowed me an old fae suit of him, powdered me white and made fake pointy for me. Guess, his skills were too good that you didn't recognized me.", he chuckled and took his fake pointy ears off to show her before he wore them back again.

"But... but why all this, Nik?"

"To sneak inside and see if you're okay. I had to, rook. I had to do this. Or have you forgotten me? Forgotten me and your real friends? It's been weeks since we last saw you. Weeks since you even were in New Orleans. Or have you been enjoying your royal life in Lamrian too much that you forgot us, especially your boyfriend, your royal highness?", he bitterly asked her and looked away to hide his sadness.

"No, Nik I didn't. I... I just got busy."

"This is no excuse, rook."

For a moment there was total silence between both of them. Both looking above at the purple sky of Lamrian and listening to the melodic sounds of birds. Just enjoying the silence as if the time freezed around them. But then Alex began to speak again.

"I'm sorry, Nik. But you might think I'm happy here. You might think I have everything here. Power, a palace full of luxury and helpers who help 'round the clock. Sometimes you should try to see the whole picture instead of only the part you see. Royal life is cool, but very hard. Very difficult and strict."

"So, you're not happy?"

"I still have to figure it out. There are some things I like, but some things... I... I can't believe I had to share my own comforting violin music to strangers."

"It was lovely music. It was also a sad melody, so I hoped you were alright. But you played it very well. Just so sorry to hear that you're not happy, rook. I didn't know. I pulled out this ridiculous fae get-up only to see you again. My eyes and my heart yearning for you. I had to see if you were alright."

"I forgive you and I'm glad you did.", she took his hands and moved closer to him until their lips touched eachother for a kiss. A sweet and soft kiss.

"Damn, have I missed this.", he wispered and began to kiss her more passionatly as if wanting to collect all the kisses he has missed over the past few weeks. His hand moving over the small of her back while kissing and his other hand touching her rosy cheek.

"Nik..."

"Love you too, my Alex."

"Nik... We... We should stop. They'll catch us.", she pulled away from him, but didn't wanted to.

"Why, rook? This is our love life. Nothing is forbidden. Doesn't Thalissa know about us already?"

"I don't want to cause a royal scandal because the royal protocol says..."

"Forget that damn protocol, rook!! Did they brainwashed you or what??! I don't care what other's will say or think. Even others ask me how I could be in a romantic relationship with a non-human as a supernatural hunter, but I don't care. I don't care who or what you are, because I have fallen in love with you just the way you are. So I need to know now, what exactly do you want?", he tried to argue.

Both stared into eachother's eyes before she spoke.

Nik quickly pulled her closer for a hug. To comfort her and planted a quick kiss on her forehead.

"I'm here for you. I'll always be there for you. And if someone only lays a finger on you or tries to hurt you, then they'll have to mess around with me first, rook. Please, don't cry. I love you today, love you tomorrow and forever will. And if we cross path in another life again, I'll love you then too."

After a few seconds passed, she wiped her tears away and thankfully smiled at the young man.

"That's how I like you, rook. Smiling happily. But you're right, I have to leave in case I get caught. I tried my way to sneak inside this royal garden party. The sooner I leave, the safer. But the quicker I will meet you again, right?"

"Yes, it's a pinky promise.", she intervened her small finger in his.

"Eeeeeekkkk, Nik!!!", Alex excitedly squeaked in the bedroom. She quickly rushed to the livingroom of Nik's apartment where her boyfriend was seated and silently drinking coffee while reading a book.

"You seem excited, rook.", he looked up to her and chuckled.

"Ooooh, Nik. My love. My life. My everything... You would do anything for me, right?", she watched the blonde with pleading eyes and innocently smiled at him which made him a bit worry now.

"Uhhh, love you too. Everything okay?"

"Oh, yes. Yes, dearie.", she sat next to him on the white couch and moved a little closer towards him which made his cheeks turn softly pink.

"That's how I like it. You and me, rook.", he smiled and gently wrapped his strong arm around her waist and pulled her closer. Her hands lightly rested on his chest as she gazed up to him. Then she spoke again in a bit serious tone.

"I love you, Nik. You're my everything. You're handsome, sweet, strong, loyal, caring, honest and would never leave my side.", she wispered in his ear which made his heart flutter.

"Always, love. Always. I'll always be there for you and never leave your side. Never. Not like last year, rook. I won't tell you to leave me anymore and I won't abandon you. Never. You were always more than a job to me. Now you're more. My everything. My true love. I will never hurt your feelings anymore. I swear.", he confessed and took her hands in his while she rested her head on his broad shoulder.

"I know. Thanks Nik."

"Always, sweetheart."

"So, Niiiiiiik?"

"Yeah?"

"You would do anything for me, right?", she mischevously grinned.

Her question surprised him, so he thought to to answer it carefully. He was on high alert. His sudden silence made Alex ask the question again.

"Nik, I asked you something. You would do anything for me, hmm? You would love me no matter what happens right?"

"Alex, what did you do now?"

"Huh?", she got surprised by his sudden question.

"I'm asking what did you do now??!", he got more serious and almost glared at her.

"What?! I didn't do anything?", she almost panicked.

"Spill it, rook. What dumb thing did you do this time?", Nik raised his eyebrow.

"Nothing, really!! I don't do dumb things, Nik!! Besides, I just wanted to invite you. Do you want to go to the cinema with me tonight, Nik? Pleeease?", she pleased with her best puppy eyes she could create.

"Ohhh... Like a date?"

"Yeah, a date. So what do you say?"

"I would never disagree a romantic date with my beloved girlfriend.", Nik's mood lightened and his eyes sparkled mischevously with joy.

"Thanks, Nik.", she planted a sweet kiss quickly before standing up.

"Where are ya' headin'? I want to cuddle with you, rookie."

"Me too, Nik. As much I like to continue our cuddle session, but we have to go shopping now.", she excitedly squeaked and began to twirl around the room until Nik stood up and grabbed her.

"Hey energetic, little rookie... Why the sudden plan for shopping?", he chuckled.

"Because we're a couple and need to fit the dresscode for the movie. I already have a lot pink clothes to wear, but you... Not even a single one, Nik."

"Wait, what???!!! A dresscode and PINK??!!! Hell no, definitly not. And there is no such dresscode for a movie, rook. Forget it!! Not even a single bit of that horrible color, rook. I rather die than... What kind of movie is that anyway??!!", Nik panicked and took a few steps backwards while her girlfriend tried to get closer.

"Nik, relax. We're going to watch the new Barbie movie tonight? Both wearing pink. We'll be like Barbie and Ken.", she softly spoke while trying to calm down her boyfriend.

"Noooo... Over my dead body, rook!!! I'm sorry, but I won't", he panicked.

"Or blue like Ken? But Nik... You said you wouldn't disagree on a date with me? Please, Nik. For me?", she tried to her best puppy eyes and sweety looked at him.

"But that's not my taste. How about we watch Oppenheimer instead? Or any other movie? A Fantasy movie? Or a Horror movie, because you look cute when you're scared and begin moving closer towards me?"

"But... but... Barbie. Barbie was my childhood. Barbie - Mariposa. Barbie, the Princess and the Pauper. Barbie, the Swanlake Princess. Or Barbie and the Three Musketeers. These classical fairytales with fairies and princesses. I always dreamed to be a fairy. With Barbie you can become anything.

"Alex, you're somehow already a fairy. A fae. Fae royalty. The future duchess of Lamrian."

"Nik, the movie is not going to be that bad. The trailer and the music's soooo good. There's also a male character. Or are you afraid that people might confuse you with Ken and will after chase you?", she winked.

"Only because I'm a blond haired guy, doesn't make me a Ken. I'm Nik. Oh hey, a blonde braided hairstyle would suit you, rook. You would look totally cute. I can imagine that quite easily [see at the end of this fanfic]. But back to the topic... I love you, but I'm not interested in that movie. Forgive me, my angel.", Nik tried to explain his girlfriend who got a little disappointed, but understood and respected his final decision.

"Fiiine, Nik. Sorry. Now what do I do with my two cinema tickets then? I wanted to surprise you with them, but..."

"I know, rookie. I'm so sorry, but... Hey, why don't invite someone else with you? And I know how eagerly you want to watch the movie, so I won't stop you. Go without me and enjoy tonight, dear. Hmm?", Nik moved closer, cupped her face in his both hands and stared in her eyes with pure affection.

"But who? Hmmm... Luc?"

"Oh no, please not him. He won't stop flirting with you.", the blond quickly disagreed which made Alex giggle.

"Don't worry, he might be busy in his shop. I don't think Katherine would be interested, but... Oh, I know who'll definitly go with me."

"Who?"

"Vera!! She'll definitly join me.", Alex her eyes sparked with joy and she immediately pulled away from Nik, got her phone to text her friend.

Vera's a sweet and amazing friend who always hanged out with her, whether is was shopping, having lunch at a Café or anything else. She'd definitly love to hang out with her. And she wouldn't disagree on wearing pink. Immediately a notification popped up on Alex's phone with Vera's reply.

"Eeeeekkk, she agreed!!! Vera and I are going to watch the movie tonight. She agreed!! Thanks for the suggestion, I love you.", she got more excited and planted a quick kiss on his cheek to thank her boyfriend.

"Sure, no problem. Anything for my rookie. I love it when you smile. Have fun tonight.", he kissed her back.

"Thanks, Nik. I love you sooo much.", she squeaked and immediately went in the bedroom to change her clothes into something more... pink!!

As she finally stepped outside their bedroom back to the livingroom where Nik was waiting, his eyes widen as he saw her in her new outfit.

"Woaaah, you... You look amazing. Damn, pink surprisingly looks good on you.", his cheeks turned softly into the same color like her girlfriend's outfit as he shyly admired her beauty.

Alex was wearing a soft-pink colored and black-laced tank-top and tight, light-blue jeans trousers. Not to forget some pair of pink sneakers which actually was the only item Nik didn't liked about her outfit. But who cares... Nik loves her just the way she is. Her hype and excitement for Barbie just surprised him a bit. Something he definitly didn't expected.

"Thanks, Ken... I mean... Nik.", she winked, trying to tease him and bumped her shoulder against his.

"My naughty girl. Have fun tonight with Vera while watching the new Barbie movie.", he chuckled.

"Did someone say they're going to watch the newest Barbie movie?", a familar voice called out from the hallway, just outside Nik's apartment.

Nik and Alex got curious and moved closer towards the slightly open front door of their apartment. Pushing the door more open, revealed two figures standing infront of them with wide smiles.

"Garrus? Krom? What are you doing here?"

"Yeah, were you guys listening to our conversations?", Nik raised his eyebrow and welcomed them inside.

The four of them went inside the apartment and got seated in the livingroom.

"Darling, you look gorgeous. What a pretty outfit. So pink!", Garrus praised her.

"Yes, you look great."

"Thanks Garrus! Thanks, Krom! I'm going to watch the newest Barbie movie tonight with Vera, so I thought to wear pink.", she explained her idea which got Garrus excited.

"That's a fae-tastic!! Krom and I are going to watch that movie too. And I love that idea. Let's wear pink too, Krom!", he suggested the stone-troll.

"Uhh, sure. Anything for you, Garrus."

"Waiiiit, you two are going to watch the movie tonight too??!! That's great!!! Let the four of us go together then!!", Alex requested and both agreed.

"Great idea!! Nik, you're not joining Alex?"

"Uhh, no Krom. I'm not. You guys enjoy tonight."

Later in the evening, Garrus, Krom, Vera and Alex were standing infront of the cinema house. All of them wearing pink. They went inside, showed their cinema tickets and ushered inside the hall to take their seats. The friends group ready and excited for the movie to start.

"I'm so excited!! And look how many people are here.", Vera gazed around until her eyes landed on the seat next to her where a familar voice greeted them.

"Bon soir, mon amies."

"Luc?? What are you doing here?"

"I'm here just like you. For the movie.", he winked.

"Oh, I didn't expected you to be a fan. You look great.", she shyly confessed and analyzed new shirt. It was a pink, flowery shirt which revealed his chest. Just like the one he usually wears, but more pink.

"I wasn't actually a fan, but I had to understand the hype. So I came. If my favorite people ended up to watch the movie, then it might a fantastique one. C'est vrai?"

"That's a cool thought. Explain that to Nik.", Alex just noticed Luc and began greeting him. Garrus and Krom greeted Luc too.

"Now there are five of us for the movie.", Garrus lightened up.

"Oh, not quite. The hunter is here too. Watching the hoppenheimer movie in the other hall.", Luc informed which gave Alex a huge shock.

"What??!!! Nik's here??!!! I know he hates pink, but... Why did he hid that from me? Why didn't he told that to me?", she got disappointed.

"Nik? My apologies, I wasn't talking about him. I was talking about the lady hunter friend."

"Katherine?"

"Oui, Katherine.", he confirmed which calmed Alex a little bit down. She wouldn't have minded if Nik prefers Oppenheimer movie over Barbie, but not telling his partner and secretly having other plans is something else. Afterall, he told her that he'll stay at home.

"Oh Vera, maybe I was too harsh to Nik. What if he wanted to watch the other movie with me instead and I...? Now he's alone at home.", she asked her best friend for advice.

"Hey, don't worry. He loves you. After the movie is over, why don't you go home and suggest to spend some time with him together? Ask what he wants to do with you."

"Ssssshhh, the movie's starting now!", Krom informed the group. Before everyone got focused on the screen, Alex took the chance and wispered in Vera's ear to thank her for the advice and beeing such a great friend.

"Thanks, Vee."

Early morning at 6am. Alex was lying on the bed with her eyes closed. Soon enough she woke up, opened her chocolate-brown eyes and was facing Nik, who's been exercising in his new black sportswear next to their bed.

"...16, 17, 18, 19...", he counted his sit-ups.

Without letting Nik notice that she was awake, she smiled and silently watched him exercise.

"...23, 24, 25..."

When he raised his upper body from the floor at the 25th sit-up, he quickly pulled Alex from the bed towards him on the floor and turned around which made Alex lie under him and Nik hovering over her as he pinned her on the floor.

"Hey??!"

"What? You think I wouldn't notice you watchin me exercise, sleepy head? Now I gotcha, rook.", he smirked.

"Niiiiiik, come on. Yes, you caught me, now could you please stand up?"

"No, I finally got ya'. Got ya' where I want ya'.", he kept staring in her chocolate-brown eyes and moved his face closer to hers to reach of her lips.

"Oh no, you don't!!", she giggled and started tickling him. But it didn't worked as she expected and surprisingly looked at Nik who smirked and raised an eyebrow.

"Nik, aren't you tickly?", she asked while continued making him laugh and back away.

Looking at her confused girlfriend, he backed away and chuckled.

"I'm not tickly, rook. Now come on, let's get ready."

"For what? It's 6am in the morning.", she asked and both stood up from the floor.

"Let's go for a morning walk and do some jogging outside."

"Nooo, I'm headin to bed. It's too early.", she complained, covered herself back in white blankets and closed her eyes. Watching her softly, he joined her and layed himself next to her on bed. A quick kiss planed on her forehead and rested beside her.

"Nik, can't you just rest for a while. You're always training and exercising."

"I have to be ready for anything.", his arms wrapped her waist and pulled her closer.

"Fiiine, alright. I know, I know, for the safety of our world. I'll join you then.", she agreed. Then she started tickling him again and tried harder this time, but Nik stayed calm.

"Try harder, rook", he grinned, but after a few seconds he couldn't hold it back anymore, gave up and finally laughed.

"Yesss, you're finally laughing!!!"

"Ah, hey... hahaha... stop now, rook. Hey, stop! Rookie, please!! Okay, yeah, you... you... you got meee!!!!"

Alex stopped tickling him and sat infront of him to get a better look at him. Smiling at him, she apologized.

"Sorry, I just wanted to tickle you see your smile. It's cute. I don't like it if you're playing the serious guy. When you smile, you make me smile too. And you're the reason I can't stop smiling. ", she said and smiled sweetly.

"That's why you were randomly tickling me, huh?!! You are the one that makes me smile already when you're happy, rook. If you wanna keep sleeping longer, you can. It's just... it would be much nicer when you would join me with work-out. You and me, rook. Since you started living with me, it's no fun anymore if I do my usual things alone without you."

"Guess you got more used to it by having me on your side, partner.", she winked and stood up from bed, when suddenly Nik pulled her back which made her sit on his lap.

"Now it's your turn to smile.", he answered and started tickling her. Alex was very tickly and couldn't stop laughing that much.

"Hahahaha... Niiiiiik, haha... Stop, please?!!", she begged.

"That's what I call sweet revenge. Make me stop now, rookie."

Alex really couldn't stop laughing hard which made Nik stop after a few seconds and waited till she calmed herself down.

"Oh Nik, oh my..."

"Alex, you alright? Calm down. Breathe slowly, okay."

"I... I... I'm fine. Don't worry.", she sweetly smiled.

"I didn't know you were tickly, rook. You still okay?"

"Yes, yes, I'm fine. With you, I'll always be fine."

Soon enough, both were ready for a morning jog outside. Nik still patiently waiting in his black sportswear in the livingroom for Alex to change. As she arrived, his eyes widen as he saw her in her tight sportwear, revealing a little skin, her curves, but especially the slim body shape. Her silvery hair was tied into a ponytail.

"Damn, rookie... You... You're hot.", he suddenly felt more attracted by her.

"Oh, thanks. I decided to wear my black sportswear to match with your's. Hey, how do you like my pink sports shoes?"

"Uhhh, they're... very pink."

"Wow, really? I didn't know, thanks", she rolled her eyes and smiled.

A light jog in the fresh air was exactly what the two needed to start their day. Both having a relaxing jog in the almost empty park. The lush park was teeming with vibrant flowers and plants that were both beautiful and fragrant which gave Alex a relaxed and peaceful feeling.

"Such a beautiful day. Hey Nik, don't run so fast. Let's have a relaxing jog."

"Sorry if you're too slow, rook."

"Hey, I'm not slow. I'm definitly faster than you. I challenge you for a race.", she stopped while arguing which made Nik stop too.

"You sure? I don't wanna beat you."

"I'm so sure about it. See that tree over there, let's see who reaches it first. By the count of three, we both start running.", Alex challenged the guy as she pointed at a lonely standing tree at the other side of the park.

Nik agreed and both got into their positions, making themselves ready for the race. They fairly wished eachother good luck and by the count of three, they began the race. Sprinting across the park. Nik was leading, but Alex wasn't far for him, slowly trying to gain the lead.

"Come on rook, faster!!"

"I... I... I'm almost", she pushed harder with all her might. After a few more steps, she finally managed to take the lead. When the couple finally neared the old tree at the end, it was indeed Alex who first reached it which surprised Nik.

"Damn, well done. You won.", he confessed and slowly fell on the grass for rest while Alex leaned against the tree. Both desperatly catching for air and trying to slow their breathing. When they were done, they slowly walked back, down the tiny hill where their little race first began.

"Hey, Nik... Could you show me some cool new moves? Let's train.", she stopped walking to seek his attention.

"Fine. How about this?", he stopped walking, stood behind her so that he felt her back leaning against his chest. With his arm around her waist, he moved his foot towards between her feet and shove them apart.

"Woah, Nik... And then?", she almost lost balance but then maintained it.

"And then I have you, so the next step is this...", he planted a kiss from behind and chuckled.

"Niiiiiik, not those moves of your's. Teach me your other moves. Some fighting and punching.", she moved away from him and mimicked to deliver a few punches while jumping up and down which made Nik laugh.

"How cute, my silly rook. Fine, let's go and find the perfect place for training.", he suggested and both strolled around until they found a wide, secluded area in the park with enough space for training.

But this secluded corner of the park was also the perfect place for a romantic moment between lovers, because they weren't alone. Not far away they spotted two familar figures sitting on a bench while gently stroking eachother's bodies. Their backs turned towards Nik and Alex. They definitly couldn't see them, but Nik and Alex could.

"Oh my, are that...??!!", she discovered with Nik. It looked like they were having a conversation and laughing.

"Well, whatever. Let's leave them alone and give them some space. We..."

"Nik, look!!!", Alex cupped his face and turned it towards the couple infront of them, so he would see what she's meaning. Their eyes widen as they discovered Luc who joined Vera on the bench suddenly stood up and got on one knee.

"Damn, is Luc... Is he gonna propose to Vera? Were they secretly dating the whole time and... Ouch!! Heeeey, what was that for?", he complained as Alex delievered a strong punch on his shoulders and glared at him.

"This was for the wedding proposal which I still haven't received from you. Learn something from Luc, he's so romantic and just proposed to Vera while I'm still waiting for you to propose to me. I bet Luc's already planning his future and family with Vera. But you, Nik..."

"Woaaah, slow down. Hold the horse, rook and take a closer look.", he answered and pointed back towards Luc and Vera.

On his knee, Luc wasn't holding a ring to propose to Vera Reimonenq. Instead he held a rose towards his blushing lover. It took the young Reimonenq a bit time until the blushing and overwhelmed feeling faded away. She finally dared to pull him closer for a passionate kiss as Luc stood up from his knee. Alex gasped, but Nik quickly managed to cover her mouth to not disturb the couple infront of them.

"Let's leave 'em alone, rook.", he wispered, but Alex didn't listened to him and quietly consumed the lovers infront her which made her happy.

Now Luc held the flower between his teeth, took Vera's gloved hand in his his and both twirled and danced in eachother's embrace without taking their eyes away from eachother.

"They're so perfect for eachother, Nik. I'll ship them from now on as Lu-era or Lu-ra. Just look at the lovely couple."

"There's no music. Why do they dance then?"

"Because they're in love, Nik. Love makes everything possible."

"Yeah, that's cute and all, but I don't know about Luc. He basically flirts with everyone. Hope he doesn't hurt Vera's feelings. She seemed a nice and innocent girl. And rook, you shouldn't mention that we saw them like this. I think they should tell us about their relationship when they feel ready."

"Ugggh, fiiiine. Nik, why are you always so right? You have no idea how much I want to congratulate them, but... Well... Okay, fiiiine. We'll keep it a secret.", she sighed and left together with Nik to give the newly discovered couple some more privacy.

Luc gracefully danced with Vera in his arms and at the end, holding her tight to dip her. With that, they finished their romantic dance and took back their places on the park bench. Luc gave Vera her rose, took her gloved hand to plant a kiss.

"You're so beautiful, ma chérie. Never have I ever seen such a beauty like you before, Vera chérie. Mon amour.", he confessed and kissed her hand again.

"Ooooh, Luc...", she shyly met his warm gaze and stroked his cheek.

"Je t'aime, Vera."

"Je t'aime aussi. I love you too, Luc. I was so shy and well... Thank you for everything. For trying to break the Reimonenq curse. And I'm glad we're together."

"I'll do anything for you, Vera. I never thought we'll become that close. I mean, I flirt with anyone handsome and beautiful, but you... Why should I flirt with anyone when I have you, Vera chérie?", he kissed her hand again.

"I don't like it when you flirt with others."

"And I won't do it. I'll surrender. I have you. I don't find anyone attractive anymore because of you. You're truely a blessing. A beauty, mon amour. You make me the happiest man in all realms. I love you."

"I never thought beeing in love would be so... so beautiful. Seeing first Alex happy with Nik, I secretly wished to find someone else too... My other half, but now I think I already have now."

"Really?", he grinned.

"Oui, Luc. You're my other half. My love. You're the reason I can't stop smiling. ", she giggled and pinched Luc's nose.

Both laughing, talking and enjoying eachother's company while Luc let Vera lean against him. Her head on his shoulder while his arms wrapped around her waist. After a few minutes of calm silence, Luc began to spoke.

"When will we meet again like this, ma chérie? I don't want to keep our relationship a secret anymore. Everytime we were around with friends, I had to control myself. So many times, I wanted to hug you, kiss you, but I can't. Not until you're ready to finally announce our relationship, Vera. When?"

"Oh Luc, don't you understand? What will everyone think when they found out that a Reimonenq and a witch are dating, when our families had conflicts which eachother for centuries?"

"I'll try to convince my mother somehow, I promise. No witch will have a problem with us, I promise. I'll keep you happy and safe. As long as we have eachother, nothing will seperate us.", he lightly brushed a kiss on her forehead.

"You're right. I'm not scared of my mother and her goons. Besides, my mom has nothing against the witches because she considers the Reimonenq touch as a gift. Alex was standing in front of a mirror, putting the finishing touches on her make-up before getting ready for her date with Nik. She stopped as she heard someone with keys, so she followed the sound and entered the hallway. There, Nik just entered his apartment.

"Hey, Nik, you're back! How do I look?", she asked and welcomed him with a gentle hug.

Nik, on the other hand was in deep thoughts, looked away and didn't even return the hug which made Alex worry as she realized. It's been a year now since the two of them were living together as a couple. They know each other very well. Something is disturbing him, she's definitely sure. Carefully Alex released him from the hug and took a few steps backwards to analyze him. Clenched jaw, staring at the floor, knitted eyebrows, a balled fist,... Yes, his body language revealed it all.

"Hey, Nik, everything alright?"

"Hmm, yeah.", he answered without meeting her chocolate-brown eyes.

"You sure, Nik?"

"Hmm?", he finally looked at her.

"How was the meeting?"

"I'm glad you didn't cause you would've gotten blood all over yourself and we have dinner reservations at 7."

"Oh that... Believe me, I wanted to stab everyone. I wanted to stab them all!!", he angrily replied.

"I love you for supporting me."

"I love you too, Nik.", she giggled which made Nik smile a little. He took a closer look at her.

"Hey, you look beautiful tonight."

"Thanks, Nik. You should get ready too, you know? I can't have a dinner date without my main course which is you, Nik.", she winked at him.

"Someone's in a good mood here."

Raising her eyebrow, Alex moved closer to him and rested her arms on his chest while Nik pulled her even closer. Both looking deeply at eachother's eyes.

"Well, someone has to keep the good mood up when the other one had a bad day.", she answered in a seducive tone and smiled.

"And I like that, rookie. Hey, how about we cancel our dinner reservations and hang out tonight in the bedroom?"

Alex playfully pushed herself away from Nik and turned disappointedly away from him which made Nik wonder.

"Definitely not, Nik. We're going out tonight. I mean when was the last time we went out together on a date? Hmm?", she argued.

"Okay, okay, sorry. I was just enjoying this little moment here."

"Whatever, now hurry and get ready for our date. I'll give you five minutes to get ready. Don't take long.", she commanded which made him chuckle because she's definitly the one who takes longer to get ready than he.

Like she said, Nik entered the bedroom to change clothes without closing the door, hoping Alex would change her mind and spend the night with him in their bedroom. But it didn't happened. After a few minutes, the man entered the hallway where she was waiting for him. But Nik noticed that she was drown in deep thoughts.

"Hey, what's up? Penny for your thoughts?"

"Nothing, actually. It's just you looked so stressed before you entered the apartment, so I hope the date will let you unwind a little. I don't like when you're stressed. Or should we cancel...?"

"No, I'm fine. It's okay. Don't cancel the date, you already dressed up and were so excited for it. I don't want our night to be ruined because of that stupid meeting I had."

"And aren't you excited for our date as much as I am?"

"Of course I am. Spending some time with my beloved rookie is exactly what I need. I need you. Forever. I need you forever. Only you, Alex. I love you. You're my everything.", he leaned closer and both drifted into a passionate kiss. A few seconds later, they parted to look into eachother's eyes.

"And you should know that I love you too Nik. By the way you look great in this black suit." She smiles shyly. Which made his heart beat stronger. For him Alex is such a beautiful person, from the outside and on the inside.

"Hey, Nik, before we enjoy tonight... Care to share what happened before?", she asked him, but he was silent. No answer came out of his mouth. The sadness in his gray eyes told her everything, so she decided to ask him again. Alex wanted to know what bothered her boyfriend.

"Nik, how was the meeting? Is everything alright? You don't have to tell me, you know? It's just..."

"It's okay, I don't mind sharing with you. But you wouldn't like it. It's just... the vampires from New York. I went to Ivy's, so she could connect me with their clan leaders via video call. I'm worried cuz things don't look good there. Soon, the vampires might have a war and... and... Katherine and I might have to join the war too."

"What?!! Why??!! What do nighthunters have to do with vampires? And New York,... that's where Kristin lives too!!! Why didn't you told me before?!! Nik, tell me everything now!", Alex panicked, took a few steps backwards as tears welled up. Gently, Nik cupped her face and leaned into a soft hug to calm her down.

"Hey, hey, relax, calm down! We don't even know for sure if the vampires will have war, okay. Relax, everything will be fine. It's just a theory. Wanna head out now?", he tried to make her feel better and to skip the topic, but Alex noticed.

Even Nik couldn't hide his true feelings, he felt uncomfortable, stressed and scared of what would happen next. Yes, Nik Ryder and scared, because joining a supernatural war is a huge thing where everyone would be concerned. In an unknown place surrounded by unknown dangers and dangerous creatures, away from home, family and friends. For Nik, away from his true love, his rookie, his Alex.

"Nik, we're not going anywhere tonight until you don't tell me everything.", she lightly pushed him away and glared at him.

"Alex, no need to..."

"Nik!!!"

"Well, I... Okay, fine. As a nighthunter, my job is to protect the human world and supernatural world, bring them both into order and serve justice, so that's why Katherine and I have to be there when the vampires will have war, to protect the humans and the innocent ones. And about the video call I just had, I actually called that damn clan leader to complain about their system cuz the NOLA vampires are drivin' me nuts. It's been a few days now and they're committing crimes and murder in our city. The numbers are increasing every week and someone has to do something. But guess what, the vamps from NY are too busy to care of what happens here, because they have their own problems to deal with.", he disappointedly explained to her.

"Wait...Wait, let me get this straight. Soooooo, when you entered the apartment you had an online meeting via video call at Ivy's place and were talking about stabbing a vampire? Huh, mentioning to stab someone during a video call who's not even here in New Orleans?", she asked. He scratched the back of his head and nodded.

Without getting ready for it, Alex crashed into Nik for a hug. He wrapped his arms around her, rested his head lightly on hers and pulled her closer. Her body shaking while silently crying.

"I'm sorry, rook. I'm sorry for ruining our date tonight."

"Nik... Oh, Nik! Why? Can't you decline? We're talking about war, not even any war, a supernatural war. Please, don't... Don't leave me."

"Hey, it's not even decided about if I as a nighthunter have to go. Okay, relax. Maybe I don't have to.", he gave her and himself hope. Everyone knows that he's one of the best nighthunters, so it could be more likely that the best ones will be chosen for this big event, but he doesn't want to think about it or sadden Alex even more.

"Can't... can't you... can't you reject?"

"I have sworn an oath to protect anyone who needs help. The humans will need safety if the vampires try to harm them. Look, the good thing is that most of the vampire clan leaders are on our side and are against war. Everything will be fine. Alex, please, stop crying. It won't change anything if you spill your tears for me."

"Of course, I will spill every tear for you because I love you and I can't live without you. Try to understand, I just can't!!!!", she screamed at the top of her lungs and felt the salty taste of her tears streaming in her mouth as they were endless waterfalls. When she pulled herself away from him, Nik was longing for her.

"No, no, stop... Please stop, I... I don't want this either, but I have no choice. I don't want to think about this right now, please. Please, let us unwind. Only you and me, together. I...", he quickly pulled her closer and his crashed his lips on hers. They kissed each other with pleasure, passion and full of desire. Not wanting anything to come in between. They were afraid to part ways, to lose each other. They were always one. Always.

While kissing both tiptoe around to the other side into the bedroom. Completly lost into the sensation, Nik's hands on her body, his lips now on throat while she lays her hands on his chest which slowly moving lower and lower.

"Are you sure, Alex? Don't let your sadness control you."

"Oh Nik, I love you and all I need is you. Only you. I need you now, Nik."

"Damn, I love you too. You're my queen, my life, my everything and there's no life without you... I can't live without you, I will die.", he confessed and crystalline tears finally filled his eyes too.

"Don't you dare to die, understood? If you die, I will die with you. So promise me, that you won't die, my soldier."

"I promise, I swear on... The hell with that. I swear on us, rook."

"What? On us? Why swear on us?"

"Yeah, I swear on us. Because there isn't anything I believe in more than us and our true love. You and me, forever. Nothing will seperate us, my love."

I think I wanted to answer this with an oneshot/fic to you, but then I didn't wanted to let you wait any longer. So here are some headcanons. When Alex and Nik started dating (after all the happenings and supernatural adventures they had together in New Orleans to defeat a dangerous Bloodwraith), Nik Ryder never thought to be so close to someone again, to care, find true love and having such an understanding partner on his side. Lonely sitting in Nik's apartment, Alex couldn't hold back her tears after what she just found out a few minutes ago and was silently crying inside a pillow. Where are Katherine and Nik? Are they safe and when will they come back home? Suddenly her thoughts got interrupted by the ringing of her phone.

"Please be Nik and Katherine, please be Nik and Katherine, please be...", she kept wispering before glancing at the phone.

Hope dies at last, unfortunatly it wasn't Nik or Katherine. It was just Luc. After calming herself quickly down, she answered. Luc requested her to come over to his shop for some help. It sounded very important, so she decided to pay him a visit. Also, as a good friend he deserves to know the news regarding Nik and Katherine too.

After a few minutes, Alex entered Luc's shop which was filled with boxes of new stock like weapons and other magical items. She was requested to guard them while Luc was working in the backroom. Alex often came to help Luc, because she's trustworthy and always helps her friends.

Silently wandering around the shop, she inspected the mysterious and magical items around her, but still couldn't hold back her tears for Nik and Katherine.

"Oh, I hope they're safe and alright. I miss both of them. Oh Nik,...", she wispered.

Dusty tomes, ancient scrolls, old artifacts, pendants, jewels, some rare herbs and other things. A large, golden-framed mirror standing in the corner of the salesroom caught her eyes which reflected herself and her sadness. Tears touching her rosy cheeks as she watched herself into the large mirror. A strange feeling made her move closer like a magnet towards the mirror as she rested her hand on the golden framing, but she didn't noticed as her thoughts of her lover, Nik Ryder blinded her.

"Nik, why did you left me? What did the cruel world even do for you that you decided to protect it??! If only you didn't left for New York. If only you were safe and sound, standing by my side. Some of the other nighthunters didn't even joined the war because of their safety, but why you? Have you forgotten me? What if your birthparents never died and you never became a nighthunter, you would have stayed with me, right?", she desperatly asked herself these questions while fighting her tears again.

Will she get the answers of her questions? Maybe not from Nik himself, but from the mirror infront her which suddenly started glowing in a golden color. It was so bright, that it illuminated the whole room which slowly began to move around her. Feeling all dizzy, she took hold of the mirror while hoping that wouldn't break. Her vision got blurry and the strange light was still there. She had a feeling as if she was falling until... it was silence.

"Luc...?", she wispered, carefully opened her eyes and discovered the large mirror infront of her not glowing or shining anymore, while her hands were still holding the golden framing. Everything looked normal again, as if nothing happened. As if it was her own imagination and her brain playing tricks with her. Blinking a few times, she let the framing go and rubbed her eyes while wobbling on her legs, until someone wrapped his arms around her waist to support her.

"Alex, everything alright? Please, take a seat", Luc requested and placed her on a nearby chair.

Feeling all dizzy, it took her a few minutes before coming back to her senses. As she opened her eyes, she discovered Luc sitting on a chair infront of her, touching her shoulder and worriedly looking at you.

"Luc?"

"Oui, it's me. Everything alright?"

"Mmmh... guess so... maybe.", she blinked a few times before feeling a little better.

"C'est bon.", he smiled as both stood up.

"Thanks Luc! Do you need any other help?"

"What? Uh, non. I don't need any help.", Luc confusingly looked at her.

"Oooh, okay. Well, let's just hope that Nik and Katherine will return soon", she weakly smiled at him without meeting his eyes.

"Nik?", Luc asked himself, but didn't continued his sentence as if there was something he couldn't explain himself and silently escorted Alex outside the shop.

Walking on the streets back home lonely in the middle of the night, with her mind only focused on her missing friends. How can she call that place home when there is no Nik Ryder waiting for her in the apartment? Because having him with her, makes that small apartment truely her home. And without noticing where she was going, she suddenly bumped into someone.

"Oooof!"

"Oh, I'm so sorry, I... I... Nik??!!!", she surprisingly realized who she bumped into. With bright smile on her face and tears welled up in her chocolate-brown eyes, she looked at the blonde standing infront of her.

"Nik, you're here. You're finally here.", and without warning him, she wrapped him into a hug. Feeling his presence made her much more realize that it is really him.

"You're here. You're finally back."

"Who are you?", he shoved her away and asked her. "And how do you know my name? Do I know you?"

His reactions shocked Alex, she was now stunningly looking at him instead of searching for comfort in his arms. She took a closer look and realized that the man looked diffrent. It was Nik, but he was wearing a black coat with black leather gloves. And he was wearing glasses. The new look may suit him but the glasses confused her since Nik actually has such a good eye-sight.

"Do I know you?", he asked again.

"What?"

"I said, do I know you? You know my name."

"Nik, what are you talking about? I... I... This is not a good time for joking around, I was so worried about you. Where's Katherine?"

"I think I'm not the person you're..."

Without letting him speak further, she pulled him closer by his collars and crashed her lips on his for a kiss while letting her tears fall for him. For the man she has been waiting for months, the love of her life, Nik Ryder.

The man wanted to pull away but couldn't as if an invisible power forced him to let himself beeing taken over her. But after a few seconds, he pulled himself away from her again and stared back with stormy eyes meeting her's.

"I don't know you. Leave me alone.", he turned his back towards her and straightend his collars.

"But Nik..."

"Goldie!! Goldie!! My girl, come here!!"

"Your girl? But Nik, I'm your... girl. Please don't say that you forgot me, moved on and...", she disappointedly explained.

A short distance away, an energetic Golden-Retriever dog joined him and playfully nuzzled it's nose against his leg. Sharing one look at Alex, the man walked away with the dog and didn't gave her a chance to talk.

"Nik, stop!!!! Nik!!! It's meeee, Alex. Have you lost your memory? Listen, you have to believe me. What did these vampires do to you? Let's go to Luc's shop, he'll help you. Or to Garrus his bar, he'll...", she screamed while running to catch up on him.

"Vampires? Did you just say vampires? Ya' lost your mind completly now. Besides, I don't visit bars.", he chuckled and continued walking.

"Nik..."

"Now leave me alone or..."

Suddenly, a nearby scream drawed their attention and as they turned to the left, Alex already met the empty, glowing eyes of a familar persuer. The scream the creature let out had such an high tone with made the poor dog panick and aggressivly bark at it.

"Calm down, Goldie. I'm here for you, girl. Let's get outta here.", he tried to calm the pet down by stroking it's fur, wispering into it's ear and looking into it's eyes. But the dog got more afraid since it could also sense the fear of his owner. He was afraid too and pulled his dog into the other directon to escape, while the monster was still luring infront of them, watching it's preys.

"It... it can't be. Is that... the Bloodwraith??!!!", Alex recognized an old enemy. The monster which hunted her years ago is now standing alive infront of her.

Another loud shriek appeared from it which frightened everyone. It's glowing eyes were watching all of them, but then it turned it's full attention only to Alex. Old memories appear in her head. Last time, she had Nik on her side to protect her but this time...

"Nik?"

"I... A living skeleton... Let's run!!!!!!", he panicked, grabbed Alex her wrist and started running together with his dog by his side. Alex only let him lead while beeing distracted by the surprise that he's trying to save her, even if he doesn't remember her. That's one thing she likes about him, that he cares about others without wanting to reveal his soft side. Somehow inside that stranger, there was still her Nik hidden from her. She felt that.

As the couple and their dog were escaping, the creature was still hot on their trails, chasing them down the streets until they reached an dead-end with no way out. The only way out was the way they came from, but now it got blocked by that creature which is still aggressivly hissing, waiting to kill.

"What is that thing??", Nik asked and lightly pressed Alex's hand.

"A Bloodwraith. It might be hunting me, but don't worry, I've got this. And I'll protect you, Nik. I won't let it harm you. You're under my protection now", she truely encouraged him.

"What are y'a? My bodyguard?"

"Oooooh, the idea of beeing Nik Ryder's personal bodyguard is truely badass.", she talked to herself and grinned.

"Help?"

"Oh, right.", she turned her focus back towards the creature. Taking confidently a few steps towards it, she raised her hands, ready to use her magic fae powers.

"Be careful.", Nik wispered.

"Okay, bloodwraith, I've finished you once and this time I will do it again cuz now I'm stronger than... Huh??"

Before she could say more, a bright light appeared out of no where which illuminated their whole surrounding. As if someone just shot some holy light arrows. Nik and Alex shielded their eyes, while Nik went on his knees, covered the eyes of his dog and pulled it closer to calm it down. A loud shriek of the bloodwraith was beeing heard which got weaker and weaker by the time. They all closed their eyes. When Alex slowly opened them again, the bloodwraith was gone. But instead, there was an old man with a white beard, hunter clothes and a crossbow standing infront of them.

"Elijah Ryder??!!!"

Author's note: "Sorry dear readers, but you guys seriously didn't thought that Alex and Nik will be easily and finally united in this chapter. No. And I'm sorry. 😢 But next chapter coming soon... Hopefully they'll be united again.

Author's note: I'm sorry. Please don't cry 😭

It's been several months since both nighthunters, Nik and Katherine joined the supernatural war in New York caused by the vampires. At least her friend, Kristin Jones who lived in New York was currently staying in California and is safe there. Alex was sitting quietly on the white couch in the livingroom of Nik's apartment. The room was dark, she didn't turned the lights on and sadly stared into the air. Tears welled up in her chocolate-brown eyes because of worry, lonlieness and fear. No message, no phone call, no news, no new updates and no informations regarding the two missing hunters. No matter how much she tried to think about something else, get her mind away by trying out new things or watching TV (which wasn't about the current happenings)... she couldn't stop thinking about Katherine and Nik.

"I miss you.", she silently wispered.

Suddenly the front door of the apartment flew open revealing Garrus, Krom, Ivy, Cal and Vera. The bright light from outside blinding her eyes since she spent a long time in the darkness alone. Quickly her friend, Vera rushed inside, wrapped her into a gentle hug while Alex her eyes slowly adjusted the light. The rest of the friends entering the livingroom too. Cal sat on the other side next to her and gently wrapped his strong arm around her for support.

"Alex, why did you locked yourself up inside Nik's apartment for days? Luckily Garrus has an extra key of Nik's apartment. We're so worried about you. How long we're you sitting in the dark like this? Did you even had sleep at all?", Vera worriedly asked her friend while Krom began to unpack some fresh food which he brought for Alex. Garrus brought a warm blanket from the bedroom to keep her warm and Ivy served her tea.

"I... I... I'm worried about Nik and Katherine... it's been sooo long since we last heard of them. I'm so worried, it's not like them. Ohhhh my poor Nik, has he even eaten something yet? Is he freezing? What if something terrible happened them? What if they're in danger? Nik could be hurt and lying somewhere injured on the ground, because he likes to take risks. Oh, I'm so glad that Nik didn't made me pregnant by accident on our date that night, what would have happened to that poor child? I don't want to end up alone with a child like my mother did, while the father was missing or dead... Nooooooooo... Nooo, Nik!! What... what if he lost his memory, forgot who he is, forgot about me, forgot everything and decides to live in New York to build a new family there?!!!! Noooo, noooo, he can't do this to me, he... Ouch!!", Alex stopped to panick as Ivy slapped her face to calm her down.

"Thanks, Ivy. That slap felt good."

"You're welcome, Alex. No worries. Now stop worrying or making up szenarios that aren't true. Nik and Kate are strong and will take care of themselves. I know it, besides they have three clan leaders of the vampires on their side. Rheya won't win!", she answered, but deep inside Ivy was also scared. Rheya, the very first vampire ever existing... no one wants to mess up with her. No one. If the strong clan leaders were struggling than how much would the two nighthunters handle?

According to the newspaper called Immortal Times which can't be read by humans, delievers important informations and news only to supernatural beeings and those connected with the supernatural world in New Orleans. Things regarding the war in New York are beeing described with a bad turn-out. Several deaths, accidents and more. Garrus made sure to collect the newspaper from Nik's mailbox in the building before Alex would see it and worry about the headlines regarding the war which has been the top article on the front paper for months. Everyone connected to the supernatural world and it's beeings can't stop talking or gossiping about the vampires. They're keeping themselves updated every minute regarding the big war and hoping it won't come closer to their city or get even bigger.

"Please, stop worrying. I admit we're all worried as you are, but worrying won't change anything or make the situation better. Try to understand, Alex.", Krom tried to explain her and held a fork near her mouth with food stabbed on it. But she ignored her thirst and hunger and sadly looked at the ground.

"Look, Alex, Krom has made something yummy to eat for you. Krom, darling, can I eat if Alex doesn't want to? It looks so tasty and smells good, right?", Garrus teased and tried to cheer her up, hoping she would eat it.

"Sorry, Garrus, I made it only for Alex with my secret ingridient called love. And it would hurt my stony heart if she didn't took a bite. Besides, would Nik be happy to hear that his rookie is shedding tears, didn't ate or drinked anything? Would Nik be happy to see the sad Alex who locked herself up in the dark? I don't think so, he'll blame all of us that we haven't taken good care of you. He'll blame Garrus, Ivy, Cal, Vera and me."

"No, he won't.", she answered and took a bite which satisfied everyone as she slowly began to eat food and drink tea. After finishing a light meal in silence, she met the eyes of her friends and gave them a thankful smile.

"Thank you, you're right! Sitting here sadly won't help. I say, let's hit for New York and find them", she commanded which made everyone's smiles fade away.

"What???!! Have you lost your mind completly, girl? Rheya is a powerful vampire!! It's too dangerous, everyone tries to escape from there and you...?", Ivy freaked out.

"I defeated a dangerous bloodwraith once which no one ever could have done before, but I did. I made the impossible possible and now I'm stronger than before. Plus, I have the holy blessings of the Fate on my side and my fae powers are getting better and better."

"That's what I call overconfidence. Girl, I like your courage and style, but you have no idea what you're talking about. Better stay out of something where you have zero idea about."

"But Ivy, we have no news regarding Nik and Katherine. Where are they? Why aren't they contacting us?"

Silence. That was the only answer she could get. This silence which made everyone worry. Hopefully they will hear some answers soon.

Meanwhile in New York City...

"Aaaargh!!", he screamed in pain as he was lying wounded in the streets of New York City. Ferals, which are dangerous creatures had surrounded and surprisingly attacked him as he was walking lonely through the dark.

"Hissss..."

He tried to stand up and fight, but he felt too weak after gaining several wounds and injuries through the night. And these mindless ferals had no mercy and couldn't stop attacking him.

"Ugly monsters, get off me!! Don't touch me or else...arrgh!! Arrrghh!! No, no,... Aaaargh, need to... need to fight. Need to stay alive. For... For my Alex. Hold on, I...", he talked to himself and then he got unconscious. Everything faded away.

"Ryder!!!", Katherine yelled as she found him. Quickly she took her sai and ran into the horde of ferals with some supportive vampires from Clan Matsou on her side.

"Hold on." were Nik's last words for Alex before he fainted...

After the war...

Back to the Graveyard Shift in New Orleans. Early in the morning, Alex and her friends were gathered around, sitting in the bar patiently waiting for any news regarding the war and their two nighthunter-friends, Katherine and Nik. Cal was calling his friends from New York to get any information.

"Hmm, yes. Okay. Yes.", he was talking on his phone while the whole crew was staring at him and waiting for answers. Vera moved to closer to Alex and whispered something to encourage her.

"Don't worry, everything will be fine. I think..."

But before Vera could finish her sentence, Cal burst into tears. Sadness took over the calm man, he started to shake and shouted into the phone.

"No, no, noooo... It... It can't be. Nooo!"

They all silently stared at Cal unsure what to do or say next. No one has ever seen Cal Lowell, a strong werwolf, in a condition like this. Not knowing what's happening or what they're talking about at the phone, Alex's heart beat increased and her eyes welled up with tears. Making her vision blurry. She's scared to know. Scared to know what they're talking about. What's happening. Scared to know the truth. Scared about Nik and Katherine. Carefully she touched Cal's arm and tried to speak through her tears.

"Ca...Ca...Cal... What's wrong?"

"What happened Cal?", Krom was afraid to know as well and wrapped his arm around him. Seeing Cal like this, Ivy quickly took the phone away from him and answered instead.

"Adrian, what's the matter? What happened? Why is Cal...? Hello? Hellooooooo?!!!"

"He's dead.", Cal silently answered as he calmed himself down.

"Cal, we were supposed to find out about Katherine and... and... No, noooo, noooooooo... It... it can't be.", Alex began to cry. Ivy cancelled the call and rushed towards Alex for a hug.

"Cal, what are you talking about? Who's dead?"

"Jax. Jax Matsou is dead.", he sniffed.

"What? Who's... who's Jax?", Alex sadly wispered and calmed herself down a bit.

After a few minutes of silence Cal's sparkly eyes met her's and he answered.

"Jax Matsou is a good vampire friend of mine and the leader of Clan Matsou. I met him in Las Vegas where Kavinski held me captive behind bars like every other supernatural creature. Thanks to Jax and his vampire friends, me and many other creatures got their freedom back that day. They freed me. If it wasn't for the vampires from New York, I would have probably still be held captive and wouldn't have returned back to New Orleans. And if I haven't returned to New Orleans, I would've never met you all and Donny would be... well..."

Tears welled up in his eyes again as he thought about Donny, his younger brother. If Cal wouldn't have returned from Las Vegas on time, he maybe wouldn't have met Nik and Alex who helped him to save Donny. Donny, who made a deal with the owner of Club Persephone to cage-fight against a minotaur. If they wouldn't have made it on time, Donny wouldn't have been probably already dead.

"Cal, please calm down.", Vera worriedly requested and rubbed his shoulder.

"Jax is dead. My friend is dead. You have no idea how much fun I had with him. The karaoke and... I never thought about getting so close with vampires as a werewolf. They treated me as if I was one of them. Jax was such a strong fighter who fought for justice and supported the weaker ones and little ones. I miss him."

"Oh Cal, I'm so sorry."

"Don't be, it's not your fault, it was the war. Bad things always happen to the good ones. Jax is dead and there is no clue about Katherine and Nik."

"What?!!", everyone around Cal panicked.

"Yes, Adrian said that the war is over, but there's no clue where the hunters are or what happened to them. They're still trying the best to find our friends.", he carefully tried to explain and sadly looked away still shocked by the news.

Sadness, worry and fear overtook everyone, so everyone decided to go back home earlier. There was no use to hang out together and celebrate that the war is over with their friends still missing and Jax beeing dead.

May the great vampire rest in peace.

"Ladies and gentlemen, we are all gathered here today to finally celebrate our heroes who have brought victory last year by defeating a dangerous enemy, the bloodwraith. The monsterous beeing and it's master who were responsibile for so many deaths including the death of my beloved husband and our duke, Lord Elric.", Thalissa announced to the crowd and began wiping her tears away when she thought about her loss.

Hundreds of faes were gathered in the throne room of Lamrian to celebrate the heroes presented by Lady Thalissa, but also to remember and honour the ones who left. Especially their beloved duke, Lord Elric of Lamrian. Next to Lady Thalissa stood her dear stepchild, Alex Clarissa Fontaine, the future heiress of Lamrian who wore an elegante royal gown. She stepped closer to Thalissa for comfort and was still very sad about their loss. Lady Thalissa her husband and Alex her biological father who's existence she wasn't aware about, until Nik Ryder found out about him and introduced him to her. She might only have met and known her father for a very short time, but the pain of losing him and never meeting him again was deep. Deeper than someone could imagine. She found him, and then... she lost him. The powerful duke, her father risked his life to keep her new-found child save from the monsterous bloodwraith. She will never forget that. Never.

Alex placed a hand on the shoulder of her stepmother for support. After Lady Thalissa calmed herself down, she focused back on the crowd infront of her.

"The pain, the loss will forever remain. I lost my husband and my son. May the ones we lost rest in peace and may the corrupted souls be purified.", she prayed and finally turned around to the four figures standing in back.

All four respectivly standing behind Lady Thalissa and Alex. Thalissa signaled them to meet the crowd, so they stepped forward till they stood next to her and Alex who secretly stole a look at the blond man.

"But now let's celebrate our heroes who not only defeated a powerful bloodwraith, but also united me and Elric with our beloved child, Lady Alex.", Thalissa happily announced while holding the hand of her stepchild.

"So true, if it wasn't them I... I... I probably would have been dead already.", Alex got emotional.

Yes, next to them were standing their guests of honour in their most formal wearings, as Lamrian's newest heroes. Nik Ryder, Katherine, Cal Lowell and Vera Reimonenq. Lady Thalissa was so generous to hold a ceremony only for them. The stars of the night. She began to continue her speech as the fae crowd got restless, especially the fae nobles.

"I know, I know, there are not faes. They may be diffrent than us, but their hearts are pure. If it wasn't them, the monster would still be alive, hunting their next possible prey which could be anyone of us. Afterall, we are powerful fae nobles. But they, they are just simple citiziens of New Orleans who risked their lifes for my Alex and the rest of the world. Because of them we are now safe.", she encouraged the crowd who felt more comfortable now and clapped their hands.

"All hail, Lady Thalissa. All hail, the heroes of Lamrian."

A fae servant approached to Lady Thalissa holding a tray with four golden medals placed on it. Thalissa took one of medals in her hands and signaled the four heroes to appear one by one and stand infront of her.

"Damn, we're gettin' real gold today.", Nik's eyes lighted up at the sight of the reward.

"You already got the six figures, Ryder. I won't let you have the gold.", Katherine wispered back.

"Why? There are four medals for everyone."

"I know Vera, but it's fun to mess up with Nik.", Katherine smirked.

"Very funny, Katy.", he rolled his eyes.

Alex and Thalissa patiently waited for one of them to appear in the front as the four wispered with eachother.

"Uhhh, guys? What are you doing? Come and join us! Everyone is waiting", Alex asked while sharing an embarrased look with the crowd as they began to murmur and wisper.

"I'm coming.", Cal answered and appeared infront of Alex and Lady Thalissa.

"How wonderful, the loyal werewolf companion, Cal Lowell will be the first one. You are the friendliest werewolf I ever met and never have I thought one day to be glad of having one on our side. You will be always welcome.", Thalissa thanked him and the man kneeled infront of her, so it would be easier for Thalissa to fasten the medal around his neck. It shined golden and the emblem of Lamrian was engraved on it. That majestic piece touched the soft skin of Cal his neck.

"I feel honored and happy for everything I could do, duchess. I would do anything for Alex.", Cal confessed and stood up to stand next to Thalissa her stepchild who proudly smiled at him.

Before Nik could make his step forward, Lady Thalissa already requested Vera to be the next for the medal while the huntress mischevously grinned at Nik. Guess, Thalissa got impatient and decided to call everyone themselves. And with that, Vera already stood infront of Thalissa and gently bowed her head to wear the medal.

"Vera, dear. You look beautiful. My sweet child... Thank you for beeing Alex her best friend and never leaving her side. Lamrian's doors will always be open for you."

"The honor is all mine.", she thanked at took her place next to Alex and Cal.

Taking the next medal in her hand, Lady Thalissa announced Katherine to appear.

"Today's not your lucky day, Ryder", Katherine wispered before making her way towards the duchess. Bowing her head deep, Thalissa managed to fasten the golden piece around her neck.

"Katherine, the bravest woman I have ever met. May all your dreams come true and may all your achievements be accomplished. You will always welcomed in Lamrian."

"Thank you, Lady Thalissa.", she showed gratitude and stepped aside to stand next to the rest of her friends. Nik made himself ready to be called as the next one, but instead Thalissa called a fae servant. The servant approached to Lady Thalissa and handed her over a beautiful, golden sword decorated with gemstones. Probably the most beautiful and expensive sword Alex and her friends have ever seen. Thalissa took the sword in her hands and signaled Nik to step forward and stand infront of her.

"Why is Thalissa holding a sword? I'm scared.", he heard Vera wispering to Cal on his way.

"Nik Ryder, go on your knees."

Confused Nik did what the duchess has ordered and went to his knees infront of her. His heartbeat increased and he began to sweat. What the hell is going on? He was patiently waiting for his medal and this is definitly not what he expected. He wanted to curse Katherine, he suspected that she had something to do with it. To annoy him. Lady Thalissa bravely holding the golden sword high over Nik's head.

"What the...?", Katherine lost her words out of worry because even she was unaware of the sudden turn of events.

"What is Lady Thalissa going to...?"

"Ladies and gentlemen, I hereby give Nik Ryder the rank of honor because of his special achievement of reuniting us with our missing child, Lady Alex Clarissa Fontaine. From now on I will knight him as Sir Nik Ryder, who will become a member of the royal guard and my stepchild's personal royal bodyguard.", she declared, lightly touched his shoulders with the golden blade before handing back to the servant.

"What??!!!", Nik panicked, stood up unable to believe what he just heard.

"Yes, Nik child, if it wasn't you..."

"I don't deserve this honour, I just did what anyone would have done and I wouldn't have done this all without the help of the rest of us. Lady Thalissa, I'm only a nighthunter and that's all I..."

"Nik, please accept."

"No rook... I... I mean Lady Alex, it feels wrong. Besides Lady Thalissa, it was Alex who defeated the bloodwraith and not me or anyone else. That's what I call a real achievement."

"But Nik, none of this would have been possible if you wouldn't have been by my side. You're the one who united me with my father and Lamrian. Please, you deserve this. You deserve the honour. ", Alex begged and next to her, the rest of the group encouraged him too. Even Katherine.

"Nik, you deserve it."

"Hell yeah, Ryder".

After taking a few minutes to consider, his eyes met Alex's. He definitly didn't wanted to disappoint Lady Thalissa, Alex or anyone else infront of the whole crowd, but he's a nighthunter. The hunt is his life.

"I'm sorry, I don't feel ready.", he answered and left the throne room.

"Nik, wait!!", he heard Alex calling out for him

After escaping the ceremony, Nik found himself gazing at the beautiful stars which decorated the purple nightsky of Lamrian. He needed some time alone, to think, but it didn't took long until Alex joined him on the balcony. His eyes still fixed on the stars above.

"Nik... Are you okay?"

"I'm fine, rook. Sorry for ruining this celebration and making you and Thalissa look bad infront of the public. But... but you at least could have asked me first if I want this, right? I could have had more time to think at least."

"Nik, I didn't know either."

"What?"

"I only knew that Thalissa was going to honor the four of you. That's it. Guess, she decided to do something special for you since you're the one who brought me to Lamrian in the first place. Aaaaand maybe, because I happen to talk more often about you with Thalissa in private.", she shyly confessed.

"Oh yeah? I hope good stuff only.", he smirked and finally looked at her.

"Of course, the good stuff. Or else she wouldn't have given you such an honorable title, instead I would have requested her to lock you behind bars as a prisoner.", she joked.

"How cruel of you, milady."

"Well, I would have had you closer by me. You would have stayed with me toghether in Lamrian then."

"Is this why you requested me to accept the title? To be closer to you? To stay with you? To always be by your side as your personal royal guard?", he asked and she shyly nodded.

"Yes, and I'm sorry. Part time would be fine too. I just..."

"I like that idea, but I need time.", he answered and Alex respected his decision. Afterall it's his life too.

"Whatever you decide... I love you, Nik.", she moved closer for a hug. His arms around her waist and her head reasting on his broad shoulder.

"I love you too.", he confessed and was about to kiss her until they heard a gasp from behind.

First, Nik declined Thalissa's offer and now he got caught with making out... or about to start making out with the future heiress of Lamrian, Thalissa's stepchild?? Damn, don't ruin your reputation infront of Thalissa, Nik thought.

Both immediately took distance from eachother and turned around only to discover Vera, Cal and Katherine who akwardly looked at them.

"Uhh, sorry, we... we were about to leave. Are... Are you two a couple??", Vera surprisingly asked.

"You never noticed?", Alex asked back. Vera and Katherine were both shocked, but Cal seemed to be not surprised.

"I don't know, maybe it just seemed normal to me. When did this happen? Why didn't you told us?"

"Sorry, but don't blame Alex. I'm not the guy who openly romances. Guess, you all found out.", he nervously rubbed the back of his neck.

"Don't worry, I actually knew it. I mean the way you were often covered in Alex's scent and she in..."

"Uhhh... We got it, Cal. Okay? But Alex, you're romancing Nik??!!! Him??!!! The Nik Ryder? You sure? What do you even see in that guy? You deserve better. Well, I thought you had better taste, girl. Uggh, never mind. Nik better treats you well or else... It won't end well.", Katherine warned.

"Don't worry Katy, I won't let you hear any complaints", Nik chuckled.

"I think Nik and Alex look cute toghether."

"Awww, thank you Vera."

"You're welcome, Alex. But now we should head back inside. They all must be worried. Besides, it our party."

Time to face Lady Thalissa her disappointment, Nik secretly thought.

As the five finally returned back to the throne room, they saw the excitement of the guests who began to congratulate the new heroes while others already left the ceremony. Discovering Lady Thalissa standing in a corner alone, she smiled as Nik joined her.

"Lady Thalissa, I apologize for ruining the ceremony and for making such a bad impression infront of the whole court. I didn't mean to disrespect or..."

"Nik, child, it's alright. You did nothing wrong and only did what felt right. You listened to your heart and I should have asked you first. I should have given you more details first. I hope one day, you will accept this honour, but for now... This golden medal belongs to you", she explained and held his reward ready.

With that, Nik Ryder, one of Lamrian's heroes, went on his knees for Thalissa as she fastened the medal around his neck. Becoming a royal guard was maybe another chapter of his story or maybe not meant to be. Who knows what the future will hold, but right now he only saw himself having a bright future with his beloved Alex. Towards their future.

"Cheers for the heroes of Lamrian."

"Cheers for Lady Thalissa."

"Cheers for Lady Alex Clarissa Fontaine, future duchess of Lamrian."

"Cheers towards the future. A brighter future.", Alex cheered with her friends while glancing at Nik who still stood beside Lady Thalissa. Both, Alex and Nik proudly smiled at eachother.

The next night, back in the Graveyard Shift...

"Wait, what? Nik is dating? I don't believe this.", Ivy giggled as Katherine and Vera shared the news.

"But it's true!! They were about to kiss eachother until... well...", Vera got embarrased remembering how her gasp disturbed their beautiful moment.

"I think that's wonderful news!! Maybe Krom-darling and I could invite Alex and Nik for a double-date. Wouldn't that be fae-tastic, Krom?", Garrus mostly got excited after hearing the news.

"What would be fae-tastic?", Nik suddenly appeared. He calmly climbed down the stairs from his apartment and joined the group in Garrus's bar. As always, Garrus immediately began to prepare a drink for Nik.

"Oooooh, who do we have here?? And where's your beautiful princess?", Ivy immediately began to tease him.

"Uhhh, Alex is in Lamrian. Like always at this time. Umm, why?"

"Don't listen to Ivy, Nik. And congratulations. May the way towards your future be bright."
