Fantastic Four Vol 1 #161
Mon Aug 12 2019
[05:18 PM] Wack'd: FANTASTIC FOUR VOL 1 NO 161
[05:21 PM] Wack'd: Last time on Fantastic Four: Reed sold the Fantastic Four's branding and general corporate stuff to an evil corporation while, on Earth-A, the Reed who ended up with Ben's powers (Reed-A) has found that sale had catastrophic consequences
[05:22 PM] Wack'd: And yes, it's Earth-A. Numbers weren't a thing yet I guess? Later it got retconned to Earth-721, but I'm sticking with A because it's easier
[05:23 PM] Wack'd: So this issue opens with Reed testing his own version of the Danger Room? I guess?
[05:24 PM] Wack'd: The perils of not having a sliding timescale
[05:30 PM] Wack'd: Reed lies to Sue and says he's worried about how Johnny took the sale, and Sue pretends to believe him but decides she's going to get to the bottom of what's really going on
[05:30 PM] Wack'd: Meanwhile, Johnny is upset about the sale--and Crystal, still--and decides to go visit Valeria in the 5th Dimension to take his mind off things
[05:31 PM] maxwellelvis: So, you're telling me, Reed is feeling his age and it starts with a lessened ability to firm up?
[05:31 PM] Wack'd: Look, one in five superheroes--
[05:31 PM] maxwellelvis: PFFFT
[05:31 PM] Aleph Null: reed's unable to remove the stick from his ass in his old age
[05:31 PM] maxwellelvis: 🤣
[05:31 PM] Wack'd: Alright, get it out of your system
[05:31 PM] Wack'd: I'll wait
[05:32 PM] maxwellelvis: I guess now he'll have to get a new Fantasticar, a red one shaped like a Flash Gordon rocket
[05:32 PM] maxwellelvis: Okay, I'm done now.
[05:32 PM] Wack'd: Okay
[05:32 PM] Wack'd: So, the 5-D natives think Johnny's "one of the cursed Andrones", whatever that means, and attack on sight
[05:33 PM] Wack'd: Oh, Johnny, one of these days you'll date a girl whose entire civilization doesn't fly into chaos the moment you show up
[05:33 PM] Bocaj: Are you sure?
[05:33 PM] maxwellelvis: His next long-term love interest is Lyja Lazerfist, so that day is not any time soon.
[05:33 PM] Bocaj: Lazerfist is a great name
[05:34 PM] Wack'd: Lyja Lazerfist, of the New Hampshire Lazerfists
[05:34 PM] Aleph Null: was johnny storm marvel's first disaster bi
[05:35 PM] Wack'd: You're not gonna convince me Namor is straight
[05:35 PM] maxwellelvis: Him or Iceman, funnily enough.
[05:35 PM] Wack'd: Yeah Iceman is just a palette-swapped Johnny
[05:35 PM] Aleph Null: @Wack'd namor is extremely straight
[05:35 PM] Aleph Null: also isn't iceman monosexual gay
[05:36 PM] Wack'd: Name one straight man with the confidence to walk around in nothing but bright green briefs
[05:36 PM] maxwellelvis: I'd say Namor probably goes around with "I'm Too Sexy" in his head all day, but that really doesn't argue in favor of him being straight.
[05:36 PM] Wack'd: ANYWAY
[05:37 PM] Wack'd: Phineas, ruler of 5-D, convinces the natives Johnny isn't one of the robots they've been fighting
[05:37 PM] Wack'd: (Deeply suspect Jim Hammond is in this one)
[05:37 PM] maxwellelvis: Grand Vizier Ferb remains suspicious.
[05:38 PM] maxwellelvis: But he won't let anyone know until he acts on those suspicions enough to confirm or deny them;
[05:38 PM] maxwellelvis: he's more a man of action.
[05:38 PM] Wack'd: Chancellor Perry meanwhile doesn't do much
[05:39 PM] Wack'd: Anyway it turns out, remember those Universal Horror robots Ben-A was building last ish? Turns out he sent a buncha them to attack 5-D for some reason
[05:39 PM] Wack'd: Oh hey a Doctor Who reference
[05:40 PM] maxwellelvis: I think they had the license at this time, at least in the US.
[05:40 PM] maxwellelvis: Or the UK, but the Doctor did have a brief run in Marvel Premier in the 70's
[05:40 PM] Wack'd: They definitely did in the UK
[05:41 PM] Wack'd: Doctor Who Magazine started out as a Marvel UK publication
[05:41 PM] Wack'd: That's not for another year or so though
[05:42 PM] Bocaj: The daleks show up in an issue of iron fist and power man
[05:43 PM] Wack'd: Sick burn on the Distinguished Competition outta nowhere
[05:44 PM] Wack'd: Turns out there's one respect in which NYC-A isn't like NYC-616
[05:44 PM] maxwellelvis: It's more like a Poking To The Head if you ask me.
[05:45 PM] Wack'd: Ben: I'll say this for you people: you've got rats like they wouldn't believe!
[05:45 PM] Bocaj: Maybe we’re the bad earth?
[05:45 PM] Bocaj: No dinosaurs at all except in Antarctica
[05:46 PM] maxwellelvis: Ehh, this still feels pretty normal for Marvel New York
[05:46 PM] maxwellelvis: Time-displaced dinosaurs and Vikings running amok, sure, must be Thursday.
[05:47 PM] Wack'd: So on this Earth Nelson Rockefeller, not Gerald Ford, is president
[05:48 PM] Wack'd: ("I didn't vote for 'im," quips Ben, "or Ford either, far as that goes.")
[05:48 PM] Bocaj: Hah
[05:49 PM] Wack'd: Anyway Pres Stallone says over the TV in a nearby TV shop that he thinks all of these anachronisms are being caused by Earth-616 and plans to declare war
[05:49 PM] Wack'd: (He doesn't say 616 because Alan Moore hasn't shown up yet but for the sake of simplicity)
[05:54 PM] Wack'd: The military puts NYC-A under martial law and Ben-A knocks out Ben-616 to keep the military from firing on him
[05:56 PM] Bocaj: What a nice fella
[05:56 PM] Wack'd: ⭐ You Tried ⭐
[05:56 PM] Umbramatic: oof
[05:58 PM] Wack'd: Man can you imagine if this arc had been popular or influential
[05:58 PM] Wack'd: We might be living in a world where Marvel universes have letters instead of numbers
[05:59 PM] Bocaj: Only 26 universes, imagine
[05:59 PM] Bocaj: The New 26
[05:59 PM] Wack'd: Might've been like on Excel spreadsheets where the letters double and triple up after a while
[05:59 PM] Wack'd: Earth-Z, Earth-AA, Earth-AB, etc
[06:00 PM] maxwellelvis: And On Beyond Zebra
[06:00 PM] Wack'd: The 5th Dimension later got retconned to Earth-6212, ftr
[06:01 PM] Wack'd: Anyway, Earth-616 is entering another ice age, and the news is blaming Earth-5D
[06:01 PM] Bocaj: Of course
[06:02 PM] Bocaj: Climate change is caused by alternate realities
[06:02 PM] Aleph Null: ...
[06:02 PM] Aleph Null: Earth-PEE
[06:02 PM] Wack'd: Sure
[06:03 PM] Wack'd: So anyway turns out Earth-5D's weapon supplier is the same corporation as the one Reed-A and Reed-616 sold their assets to
[06:03 PM] Wack'd: Quel shock
[06:03 PM] Umbramatic: oh no

81: What would you want to be written on your tombstone? “RIP: This is empty because there’s no body in it, so feel free to go ham.”
82: What is your favourite word? Fuck
83: Give me the first thing that comes to mind when you hear the word; heart. Alone
84: What is a saying you say a lot? “To be quite honest”, “everyone and their mother”, “to be fair”
85: What’s the last song you listened to? “POP/STARS”
86: Basic question; what’s your favourite colour/colours? Red/orange
87: What is your current desktop picture? Still the ME 2 collage
88: If you could press a button and make anyone in the world instantaneously explode, who would it be? I can’t answer that
89: What would be a question you’d be afraid to tell the truth on? What’s the one kink you hate liking?
90: One night you wake up because you heard a noise. You turn on the light to find that you are surrounded by MUMMIES. The mummies aren’t really doing anything, they’re just standing around your bed. What do you do? Ask if they can talk. If they can’t and are just looming, try to get back to sleep.
91: You accidentally eat some radioactive vegetables. They were good, and what’s even cooler is that they endow you with the super-power of your choice! What is that power? Control time
92: You can re-live any point of time in your life. The time-span can only be a half-hour, though. What half-hour of your past would you like to experience again? Oh this is a good question. That last 30 minutes of the Jan. 2012 BronyCon where I modded the stream and heard “You Only Got One Life to Live”
93: You can erase any horrible experience from your past. What will it be? Goodbye that sexual assault in the common room
94: You have the opportunity to sleep with the music-celebrity of your choice. Who would it be? Always music huh? I’m gonna say Cher
95: You just got a free plane ticket to anywhere. You have to depart right now. Where are you gonna go? Los Angeles
96: Do you have any relatives in jail? Probably
97: Have you ever thrown up in the car? Nah
98: Ever been on a plane? Yep
99: If the whole world were listening to you right now, what would you say? It’s...it’s not easy anymore. And I know I make a lot of mistakes and whine a lot and am in no position to hate who I am or what I’ve done and I know that I don’t deserve everything I’ve gotten, but...it’s hard to want to live life and enjoy little things when you’ve been told that you’re great at a lot of things and end up never getting there because you didn’t put enough work in or you weren’t lucky enough to get it. And then you’ve got this great big old dream looming over you that you can escape in because it’s so much to imagine what it would be like. But you know that deep down you’ll end up back home working at Menards and ending up just like your father. Well guess what? If I’ll never be shit, duck? Than I’d least like to fucking know if I ever had a chance in the first place.

Tracey Love Vol. 6? 6 sounds good. Answering questions from this post
Edit: this is vol. 5. whoops.
1. Tracey Lee Love. It was chosen by her mother, Lauren, and it doesn’t really mean anything. Love is her married name, which she took from her husband, Nate.
2. She attained the title of Sentinel, which she gained from her service to the Brotherhood. Her work title is Detective.
3. She kind of tries not to think of her childhood. It wasn’t the worst, but it was certainly pretty lonely. One of her more positive memories would be her father pushing her and her sister on the swings. Bad would be waiting for her father to come home and realizing he never would.
4. She’s estranged from her father, and her mother passed.
5. Tracey had a sister named Luanne. They were close as children, but when Luanne became ill, they were separated.
6. She was pretty good in school. She liked it, and finished high school. She couldn’t afford going to college, but she might have liked to.
7. She didn’t have very many friends when she was a child. Her best friend was Luanne.
8. Tracey had a pet rabbit as a child. As an adult, she and Nate had a dog, but it escaped before the war. She likes animals.
9. She isn’t really liked by many animals, and counts herself lucky that Dogmeat likes her.
10. Tracey is a mother, and likes children. Children like her alright, and she brings them lots of toys that she finds. She’s had one son, Shaun, and may be open to having more in the future. As a mama, she isn’t really overly strict and is pretty doting, but she definitely lets Shaun know that there are rules.
11. No real diet, likes Vim more than Nuka Cola. There isn’t really the resources
12. Her favorite food is the Captain’s Feast.
13. She hates radroach, and other bug meats. She’ll eat it, because there’s no sense wasting food, but she’ll hate it.
14. She remembers the coffee she used to drink as a detective. What she wouldn’t do for a cup of that! When she and Nate first kissed, it tasted like coffee.
15. Pretty good at cooking. She’s definitely trying to make things taste good even if she can’t. People around her think it’s decent enough. Danse certainly likes it better than when he cooks. Everyone likes her sweet rolls.
16. She collects a lot of things actually: bobbleheads, magazines, children’s toys, pillows, Brotherhood holotags. The bobbleheads go in the stand, and she reads the magazines. The toys go to children, and the holotags go in the box in the attic.
17. Doesn’t really take photos of herself. But of Danse, Maccready, or Shaun? They’ve found themselves in photos. Nick too. Before the war, she took them more often.
18. She likes almost any genre of book.
19. Dislikes mysteries, because they never investigate as she would.
20. She doesn’t hate musicals, but she doesn’t really get musicals. Still, they’re nice. Likes music though, will hum along most of the time, sing softly maybe.
21. She doesn’t think she has a temper, and gets pretty surprised when she gets angry. It’s a dry, hot anger. Mostly, she’s pretty patient.
22. Can’t imagine her cursing. She meets Maccready and understands “ah, a fellow parent!”
23. Can remember somethings very clearly, but others blur together.
24. If she’s travelling by herself or with Nick, she’ll only sleep when she’s about to drop. If with someone else, she’s generally a little better and will sleep whenever they are tired or want to rest. She prefers sleeping during the day-the warmth makes it a little easier to sleep and it’s a little better to travel at night. If she’s at Homeplate or Covenant, she’ll sleep in her and Danse’s bed. (he had to fight her on this) No snoring, but talks in sleep.
25. She finds slapstick funny, and she isn’t really funny herself.
26. There’s smiling and humming, which is y’know hard to tell with the bandana and all. She’ll hide her hurt, but not so much her happiness.
27. She tries not to let people around her in on her hurt. She’s never been good at explaining her feelings. It’s just this sudden loss of energy, of agency, limbs slack.
28. She fears being experimented on, of being put under and not recognizing herself. She’ll get cagey, weirdly aggressive. She might flee and hide somewhere. If she can’t, she’ll attempt to stop whoever nearby, scratching and clawing.
29. When she learns of other’s fears, she is very protective of them. If she thinks feral ghouls will be somewhere, she won’t bring Maccready.
30. If she is with the Brotherhood, she’ll work out. Otherwise, it’s mainly just a little stretching and patrolling.
31. She doesn’t really drink much. There are a few times she has wished to drink and forget. If a friend asked, she’d share a drink, and she always buys a Vim when at the Last Plank. Weepy, emotional drunk. Gets bad headaches when hungover, and is nice enough when others are hungover.
32. There isn’t a lot of room for expression in the wastland. She’ll generally wear her uniform, or the Silver Shroud costume. Maybe her Atom Cats jacket if she’s somewhere safe.
33. Comfy mostly. Maybe something lacey if there’s an occasion.
34. mostly skin and bones. shallow muscles. she hates it. she hates her body.
35. her guilty pleasure is cuddling in bed. she doesn’t feel like she deserves it. takes pleasure in modding weapons because it’s useful.
36. She’s a pretty good shot. She wants to take up knitting but she thinks she’ll need more help. She has the kind of voice that’s good for singing to babies.
37. Likes to read, and does so moderately fast. Likes reading poetry, and non-fiction. Picks up any sort of instructional manual she can find-it might be useful.
38. She admires other’s strengths. Wishes she was better with big guns.
39. She likes letters.
40. Loves coffee, will eat candy and other sugary snacks. Gets sleepy easily though, but pushes through it.
41. She’s bisexual, and seems to be attracted to mainly synths. Like anytime post war she gets a crush, they turn out to be a synth. She really needs love and affirmation in a relationship.
42. Her goal was to find her son, but that was not possible. At one point, she would have given up anything to do so. When she found him, she was left adrift, without any idea of how to cope. Nothing to live for.
43. She isn’t religious. Hates the Children of Atom. Admires people who can still believe in religion in this world.
44. She likes summer best, and she likes warm weather the best. She isn’t good in cold, but tries not to complain too much.
45. MacCready sees her as one of his best friends, someone who he can never repay. Danse sees her as the love of his life. Maxson sees her as a loyal soldier, but not one he can trust to follow through on every order. She doesn’t really see herself like that.
46. She doesn’t make a great first impression, but it is accurate.
47. Mostly she’s just quiet, doesn’t want to mess things up, and doesn’t really enjoy it. She kind of enjoys formal wear-not that there’s really any times to wear them now.
48. She would enjoy a casual party with her friends.
49. Her most valued objects would be her wedding ring and Danse’s holotags. She doesn’t think of herself as too sentimental, but those go everywhere with her.
50. Guns, obviously. A couple day’s worth of food, cans of water. Spare clothes. Ammo. Holotags. Wedding ring

RINA (SCANDAL) vol.3 - I want to show that I'm challenging myself to new things. by CW-X CONDITIONING Magazine
RINA's band has entered their eleventh year, they've released their best album 『SCANDAL』, will be holding a 47 prefecture tour, and has taken a definite step toward their next stage. In this last edition we asked her about the conditioning of her mind as well as about SCANDAL and her personal prospects in the future.
Q: Please tell us how you spend your days off.
RINA: I almost always go to the movies on my days off (laughs). In particular I recently decided to make sure to watch Japanese movies and am aiming to watch 100 of them in one year (laughs). When I have time I feel like watching a movie, and I go to the movies at the pace of about once per week. Just going to the movies makes me happy, and it's also a time I can relax my heart.
Q: Are there any other moments where your heart's at rest?
RINA: Since I love European fashion and movies, I've been attending a French language school for about a year and go about once per week. Although I have to study, it's not a bother at all because it's closely related to my hobbies. Attending school is enjoyable; I've found learning to be something great after becoming an adult. Even if I have to do homework, I'm like, "Okay, I'll do my homework!" (laughs). It's fun opening up my notebook at home. I'm really enjoying new things and things I like to do one step at a time; it's a time I can relax.
Q: Are there decisions you've made during your daily life?
RINA: When we're doing sound production, our days and nights are immediately reversed and throws us out of whack. That's exactly when you want to rise with the sun and sleep with the moon, but living a regular life is a musician's eternal issue. You think, "Why do ideas come to me more at nighttime..." (laughs).
Q: What about food?
RINA: Recently, the members have been talking about how "we must make sure to eat white rice and meat." It might be a given, but it's important to have things that'll give you energy. My energy immediately changes right before a live, so that's why I often eat udon. There are various opinions on this, but I drink hydrogen water. I've been using a hydrogen water dispenser at home for about 3~4 years now and use it for both cooking and drinking. I've been told that it currently has no effect on me, but I think it's good that the effects depend on each person. I feel relieved when I drink hydrogen water; it's important to feel like that.
Q: That way of thinking may apply to everything.
RINA: It really does seem like it. When I'm training, it's very important to imagine breathing in while thinking of how your breaths will go into the thigh muscles.
Q: Do you have any recommended stretches and training that you can easily start to do?
RINA: Since core noodles can be substituted with towels, roll up bath towels to make them slender and narrow, connect them together, lie on top of them, and straighten or extend your spine to the correct position. You're only lying down, but I think that it's easy to do because you're training just by lying down while making sure to breathe in deeply. I ask my trainer about training methods using tools, and I also exchange information with my drummer friends. Just stretching both hands forward while soaking in a bathtub, and just by clasping and unclasping your hands will increase muscle strength.
Q: Please tell us what you would like to challenge yourself to do and what your goals are.
RINA: I always want to show that I'm challenging myself to new things. It's the same for whatever I do, but even if there's a popular tune going around in music, I always think, "Let's make a cool song different from that." There's always backlash when we make albums, and because we feel that we want to create a nice work with a different angle than the previous work, I think we'll always continue to have that kind of stance.
Also, it'd be great if I could send out things aside from music. Because I love clothing, I selected vintage items myself on our 2015 overseas tour and sold them in Japan as a vintage shop with clothing selected by RINA. I want to bring home the goodness of things abroad that aren't found in Japan, and I want to bring the goodness of Japan overseas with me. I am hoping to disseminate cultures that transcend borders through the band SCANDAL.

#MyHistory: Fabrice Simon
Fabrice Simon is a Haitian born fashion designer and painter born January 29, 1951, in Port-au-Prince. Fabrice became so iconic, he was on a one-name basis during the height of his career during the 1980s. When asked about his upbringing in Haiti, Fabrice makes it clear that during his childhood, he was hardly “bought up like a peasant”. In fact, Fabrice came from a long line of diplomats, writers, and a couturier grandmother. His childhood had a heavy French influence but the family still felt that the children of the family would be able to lead a better life in America
In 1965 at the age of 14, Fabrice and his family made the big move to Queens, New York . I was unable to find much about Fabrice’s upbringing in Queens but he did go on to attend the Fashion Institute of Technology, studying textile design and fashion illustration.
Post-FIT, Fabrice worked for fabric manufacturers Cohama and Concord Fabrics designing classic patterns like florals for bedding, wallpaper, and women’s clothing. Fabrice spent five years doing this type of work, creating textiles in the aesthetic of other companies but soon found the work creatively unfulfilling and made a run for it to Europe.
Europe served as a hub of inspiration for Fabrice, as it would for any artist. Fabrice went to Europe with the intention to focus on painting but came back to America designing clothing. “I started going to museums and observed what people were wearing, I began to think (about) how to do dresses”
By 1975, Fabrice debuted his first collection, a five dress collection made with
hand-painted fabrics and the collection was an instant hit at Henri Bendel.
Demand was at an all-time high but Fabrice was unable to keep up with supply. Like most of us starting out, Fabrice was designing, painting, and constructing everything on his own. Fabrice explains an 1983 interview with People Magazine that banks weren’t too interested in supporting a fashion designer with a business loan. “They thought I was just another hippie doing hand-painted T-shirts”
Inspired by his grandmother’s couture background, Fabrice transitioned from painted fabrics into beading and took a bulk of his production to his home country Hati.
“The bulk of my beading is hand done in Hati where I own company- my father oversees the operation there.” Now instead of only creating patterns by painting, Fabrice created compositions with beading. All of Fabrice’s beaded fabric were hand-beaded in Hati by a team of 20 except for his high end made to order items that were made in his Manhattan studios.
I think it is really amazing that Fabrice took the manufacturing aspect of his business to Hati to boost the local economy and keep his family involved. His mother and father took lead in Hati and his sister, Brigitte, help with production in Manhattan.
As you can imagine beadwork is no cakewalk, taking ten days for the creation of one dress. The fabric was cut in New York then flown to Hati to be beaded then sent back to New York to be sewn into garments in Fabrice’s NYC studio where a team of five worked.
Critics took immediate notice, leading to Fabrice winning the Coty Fashion Critics Award in 1981. He built an early relationship with debutante of the decade Cornelia Guest, Guest wore a gown by Fabrice to her debutante debut party in 1982 and a loyal friendship grew from there.
Fabrice was popular with celebrities dressing the likes of Shirley McLaine, Natalie Cole, Iman, Jerry Hall, Liz Taylor, Barbra Streisand, Joan Collins, Mary Tyler Moore, Dionne Warrick, Jennifer Holliday, and Whitney Houston. One of the main reasons Fabrice thrived during the 80s, everyone wanted to look rich and rich meant incredibly extravagant.
"I'm not really interested in what others are doing in fashion. I have to satisfy myself first" -- Fabrice, People Magazine 1983
He eventually went into the world of menswear, creating out of a need for himself when attending events and wanting more stylish options fo himself. “Men have been conservative for so long, its time for (a) change and that’s what I’m doing” Fabrics included wool flannels, silk taffeta, and silk jacquards.
Fabrice would play with scale, combinations of classic patterns, and unique elements like standing collars for men. His most popular male clients were Luther Vandross and Peter Allen.
For his womenswear, Fabrice liked to work with silk crepe, georgette, charmeuse, and other decadent fabrics.
During the height of his career, Fabrice was grossing over $1 million in yearly sales. With the market crash of the late 80s,
Fabrice had to change his business model to work on custom clothing directly with clients which seemed more enjoyable for him since he didn’t see himself as much of a business person.
In 1994, Fabrice closed his fashion studio to refocus on painting and make himself a priority after being diagnosed with AIDS. It is interesting that during two pivotal moments during his life, Fabrice went back to his first love and even held exhibitions of his work. Even though he took a step back from fashion, his painting still looked ready for fabric. On July 29, 1998, Fabrice Simon died at the age of 47 in NYC.
AIDS claimed the lives of so many Black artists during the 80s and 90s, I can’t imagine how different the art world would be if many of them were able to take advantage of their career heights and receive the flowers they deserved while living. I admire his ability to translate his artwork into intricate beadwork and not compromise on what he wanted in quality. There were a lot of beaded gowns happening during the 80s, but Fabrice’s work stands out for his intentional mark making and abstract quality. For his designs, the body was truly his canvas.
Peace,
WM
