Year of the Rabbit
by SingingInTheRaiin
T, WIP, 32k, Wangxian
Summary: After Wei Ying was kicked out of the Jiang household, he figured he could rough it on his own with a tent in the woods. He didn't realize that he was setting up so close to where the most popular boy in school, Lan Wangji, lived. Lan Wangji has always been something of a mystery, never saying much about himself. The last thing Wei Ying expects is to be invited to move in to the Lan house- but even more surprising is that it turns out that whenever a cursed Lan is hugged, they turn into a zodiac animal! Kay's comments: A modern Fruits Baskets AU! No prior knowledge of Fruits Baskets is required, I promise, because I had no idea what Fruits Basket was either when I started reading this fic. It's very cute. Basically, the members of the Lan family will get transformed into animals every time they are hugged and now, Wei Wuxian is thrown into the mix, because he gets to stay with them after being kicked out. It's cute, but there's also mystery and family intrique happening and it really left an impression on me. Excerpt: By the time he’d dragged himself back to his campsite, he kinda wanted to cry as he saw that even with most of the mud having been dug away, the tent itself was definitely too broken to provide any real shelter, and he’d left his stuff at the Lan house. He was just contemplating saying ‘fuck it’ and either curling up on the ground or walking all the way towards the nearest motel, which would take forever, when he heard a deep voice call out, “Wei Ying.” He turned and did his best to smile brightly even though it felt like everything was falling apart around him. “Lan Wangji! Did you come to bring me my stuff? I didn’t get the chance to thank you earlier for getting it all, so thank you.” “You cannot stay here.” Wei Ying’s stomach dropped. “Oh, right. I get it. It’s fine, I’ll figure something else out.” Lan Wangji frowned. “It’s not safe. We have a spare room, so you may as well stay there.”
pov wei wuxian, modern setting, modern with magic, fruits basket fusion, cursed lan wangji, rabbit lan wangji, homelessness, emotional hurt/comfort, hurt/comfort, bad parents jiang fengmian & yu ziyuan, good sibling lan xichen, good friend wen qing, good friend wen ning, dysfunctional jiang family, families of choice, bad parenting, lan family feels

the straw basket you held was snug in your grasp, filled with assortments of glossy apples, fuzzy peaches, and ripe lychees. it was all of raiden’s favorite fruits — something you learned from tomas’s daily commutes to your family’s fruit farm.
a bad fever. you distinctly traced back to kung lao’s words, a bitter look animating his face every time he spared details about raiden’s current sickening state. a layer of cold sweat covering his skin, unusually complaining about muscle aches, and his appetite only consisting of a glass of water and some good sleep.
that was bad. raiden has never gotten sick in all the years you’ve known him. he wore his skin like armor — resilient and adaptable to any weather. but with the current heat waves passing through the condensed village, it only made sense for the hardworking farm boy to be too stubborn to miss a day in the cabbage fields.
nevertheless, you admired raiden for his work ethic, but most importantly his compassion and kindness. he shined so bright when there was a smile on his face. hearing his gentle voice made your eyes flutter shut and soothed throughout the whole day. your crush on the farm boy couldn’t be anymore obvious, but it seems your subtle flirting and wandering eyes went unnoticed for years.
you gently pad through the zen garden, minimal with white rocks and gravel that held the warmth of summer — your scandals were neatly placed by the entrance, footsteps much softer and less damaging to the wooden platform. raiden’s home, blared with midnight silence all while the vicious heat waves irritably hum in your ears, making you flush under your thin garments.
drop off the basket and make your way home. that was the plan.
but your nerves heightened at the source of warm light that bled through the sliding doors — shadows of objects inked all over the paper panel. it was raiden's room. he was awake?
slowly, you got closer, softly step towards the light with a nervous grip on the straw-woven handle. you froze in shock when you heard a strangled sound coming from the other side of the panel. one step. the sound was suppressed, lodged deep in his throat. closer. a rhythmic wetness, in sync with your racing heart. in front of the door. with a hoarse voice, your name desperately fell off his lips as a gushing sound followed after.
with a shaking hand, you curiously slid open the thin panel.
it’s raiden, he just jerked off on his bed while he moaned your name.
before slipping his strained hand past the waistband of his soiled underwear, he restlessly opens his eyes and sees you standing there.
did he come so hard that he was hallucinating?
it took an awkward second to realize you were in fact, real. immediately, raiden frantically covered his lower half with the bunched up covers beside him — his usual kind eyes filled with the fusion of embarrassment and guilt. if it weren’t across his room right now, raiden would’ve used his straw hat to avoid your unreadable eyes — preferably forever.
“i – uh – i can explain,” raiden finally sputtered with desperation. he was stressed, darting his wavering gaze over to the fallen fruit basket to your terrifyingly neutral expression.
he looked away, gazing down at his fidgeting, haphazardly wiped hands.
“i’m truly… truly sorry about this. you must have been uncomfortable hearing all that – if you wish to never see me, i’ll make sure to —“
“are you still sick, raiden?”
your tone was even as you entered the humid room and slid the panel door shut. he flinched at the sound of your footstep, even more so with your lack of response to his apology.
“i – i’ve recovered well…” his words seemed to fall into silence as he looked up and watched you slowly bend down and take a peach from the floor, peeling off the fuzz with delicate fingers.
“has any of madam bo’s remedies worked well for you?”
one side of the peach was peeled off, a bead of sweet juice running down the plush fruit. it gleamed under the warm lantern light and made raiden swallow in anticipation.
“yes… they have made great improvements to combat my sickness, although… i’m still suffering from a headache.”
thinking about his lengthy absence, away from his responsibilities in fengjian, away from the sense of community, away from you, led him to a troubling spiral that left his head pounding with an intense ache. touching himself seemed like the only solution at the time, especially when his worries about you transformed into a lustful yearning.
you nodded in acknowledgement, the peach extract now ran down your arm — tacky on your dewy skin. to his surprise, you took a generous bite from the fruit, the delicate floral flavor coating your mouth. a gush of juice ran down from the corner of your lustrous lips, prompting you to take a finger and catch the leftover juice, only to apply it over your lips like a sweet balm.
raiden concentrates on your alluring movements with wide eyes, thankful for his previous panicked behavior to hide his shameful actions, only for it now to hide another painfully confined boner.
pressing your sticky lips together, you tread towards the small bed to take a seat on the edge, far from the farm boy’s reach. but with you much closer than before, raiden’s rapid breathing was apparent. he’s nervous, yet there’s a sense of urgency coursing through his stiff body. he could crawl towards you if you wanted him to, he could even set aside every ounce of his pride to beg for your touch. but then your question made his flush pink while the sudden surge of blood pumping through his veins made his cock twitch.
“mind if i try one of my remedies?”
your voice is so sweet and intoxicating, replacing all his senses with sexual desire.
raiden nodded frantically.
“o – of course, please do.” then you smiled for the first time of the night.
you crawled towards him with need, immediately latching your mouth onto his. raiden sighs in relief, sloppily kissing you back in desperation, the taste of peach on the tip of his tongue. eagerly, he lapped his pink muscle over your sweet lips. his favorite fruit coating your lips, tasting it with his own mouth — he must be dreaming. you whimpered at his gentle licking, eyes fluttering shut to memorize each caress of his tongue.
to close any space between the two of you, raiden pulls away the covers and guides your flushed body to straddle him. your weight sealed tight against raiden, his hardened cock brushed along your own clothes wetness — a choked groan escaping his lips all while you swallow them into a searing sugary kiss.
in need of some air, the both of you were panting heavily as you pulled away, a shared dazed expression on each other’s faces. you were the first to laugh, lips swollen and glossy from raiden’s eager tongue. he joined in the break of sexual tension with a small chuckle, the essence of peach was still sweet on his palate. you smile warmly as you gently brushed threads of long black hair away from his flushed face — cradling his warm cheeks into your hands.
“is it fine if i continue?” you whispered against his lips, leaving a plethora of sweet pecks in between each word.
“i could never deny you.” he confesses with no sputter or hesitation to his words — genuine and sweet.
by the elder gods, you wanted to make him feel so good.
you smiled wickedly as you leaned back and adjusted yourself, grinding agonizingly slow and hard against his hot erection. raiden hisses, rough hands suddenly firm around your waist for leverage. the dimly lit room felt more humid than before, filled with desperate pants and heady sweat. summer’s heat waves didn’t help the fact that the both of you were burning with desire.
you began to undress from your silky robe, the patterned fabric pooled by the side of the bed. raiden fondly stares at your bare body, starstruck by your natural beauty. before he could remove his own damp clothing, your nimble fingers began to undo the buttons of his shirt — exposing his heaving chest. for as long you’ve ever known raiden, a shirt clung onto his frame. never once showing an ounce of skin further than his collarbones. but this was something new. a well-toned stomach from his training with madam bo did him wonders. but with his even, golden tan shows that he does in fact train without a shirt — maybe after all this, you can accompany madam bo’s vigorous training.
but for now, your hands and lips ache to touch raiden everywhere. eagerly, you began to leave a trail of wet kisses and love marks all over his exposed body. raiden begins to groan with every scrap of your teeth, hands clinging desperately on his bedsheets. you smile at his impressive self-restraint, pulling away occasionally to fully memorize the details of his body. to the soft moles that scatter along his dewy marked skin, the deep contours that drew his frame, and finally the trail of coarse hair running his navel. he was perfect — so perfect.
raiden notices your intense gaze over his exposed form and shyly averts his eyes away, the grip on the cloth bed sheets giving him some stability.
you placed a sweet kiss over his navel, trailing down further as your cheeks began to graze his pubic hair, erection bumping against your chin.
“nervous?”
raiden shifts at your question and cutely nods.
“i am, but … i want to continue.” he has been waiting for this after all.
you nod at his words, hooking your fingers under the elastic waistband as you carefully drag down his pants. raiden lifts his weight a bit to give you easier access — a comedic look on his face when his cock accidentally slaps your cheek when his waistband reaches down to his thighs.
“oh. i - i’m sorry.” he faintly chuckled in embarrassment, shrugging off the shirt to let it join the rest of the clothing on the floor.
you shook your head when you disgraced his pants, sitting up briefly to reach towards the nightstand.
“your excitement shouldn’t bring you shame.”
the half-bitten peach felt soft and sticky in your grasp, still supple with sweet sap.
“it just needs to be taken care of.”
raiden’s eyes perk up at the softened peach and immediately shift towards his cock. are you going to –
a sudden coldness kisses his swollen, oozing tip, dripping down on his shaft. raiden immediately moans at the foreign feeling, the delicate scent of honeyed sweetness seeping on his skin. your hands squeeze the peach a little harder, getting every ounce of sticky sap onto his twitching cock. running the fruit dry, you discarded it on the nightstand and began to run your hands down his length at an agonizingly slow pace.
your name falls prettily out of his lips with every careful pump — hips moving desperately to meet your hand. with his cock much more sensitive from the new sensation of a sticky essence and his previous orgasm, he was sure that he wouldn’t last much longer. sensing raiden’s peak, you pulled away — his hips sputter for a moment until they fell back onto the bed. raiden tried to compose himself, his shallow breaths brushing against your flushed face, progressively becoming more stable.
“don’t cum just yet, i haven’t even gotten to taste you.” you jested, shifting on your knees so that you’re at head level with his cock.
“your skill makes it hard for me not to.” raiden breathes out, a small smile on his face.
you playfully roll your eyes, brushing your hand over his fingertips — urging to guide his touch. curiously, raiden follows your gentle hold onto his long fingers until you thread them through your scalp. as he was a fast learner in combat, so was he in the bedroom. with a firm grip, raiden tugs onto the back of your head. you smiled at his new sense of confidence, the hesitation in his touch much more rough with assertiveness.
without a word, he slowly guided your mouth down onto his cock — the warm air replaced with a scorching wetness.
“shit.” raiden curses, a rarity in his usual vocabulary. his dark brows pinched together, strands of hair falling from his bun. “you are amazing.”
the small praise made your mouth water, dissolving the juice clung onto his length. raiden allows a few seconds for you to relax your mouth and begins to bob your head along his cock — careful to not let you gag just yet. the sweet taste of ripe peach and bitter precum laid deliciously over your tongue, twirling over his tip with every tug at your scalp. whimpers of your name escaped raiden’s lip as the sleek sounds of your filled mouth were in sync with one another. with your mouth adjusting to the forgiving pace, you began to suckle and moan around his cock — sending extra sensations for raiden to feel. he bites back a groan, overwhelmed by the feeling of your mouth and the perfect view of his hand gripping your messy hair and glossy eyes eagerly looking up at him.
even like this, he honestly found you to be breathtaking.
“you are so beautiful. oh. it just feels so good –“
raiden tilts his head up, his cock beginning to twitch in your mouth. the heady taste of cum and peach puts you into a mind numbing trance, intently suckling and licking down his length. suddenly, you gagged at the sudden graze of his tip, noticing how much further it is down your throat. your senses suddenly flood back into you, his low whines and groans much more clear.
“i – i’m close — so close.” raiden warns, his restraint begins to slowly chipping away as his grip begins to leave your scalp tender, his pace backing more grueling with each hard thrust of his hips, making you choke and tear up.
you grip tightly into his thighs, steadily breathing through your nose as his cock continuously plunges down throat. the coil in your gut burns with greed, ready to take his load. the fast building tension came so quick, you knew instantly that he was there. and with one final thrust, raiden calls out your name, hot cum spurting down your bruised throat — coating your mouth with a salty, peachy taste. his body jerks in overwhelming ecstasy, sweat collecting around his brow bone dripping down his neck. his cock softens in your mouth, making your breathing less restricting. the death grip on your scalp exchanged to a comforting massage, gently guiding your mouth to detach from his cock with a lewd pop.
your eyes met, his much more apologetic and filled with worry. as yours was filled with a satisfied haze.
“are you feeling okay?” raiden whispered in concern, making the effort to pat down the messy strands of your hair. “i was too rough on you, i’m sorry about that.”
you shook your head, laying your head over his stomach. raiden sighs in relief, although his brows still knit with concern.
“i’m fine. what about you? is your headache finally gone?”
raiden tilts his head in confusion, until he realizes what you mean. he lightly chuckles, continuing to caress your head adoringly.
“it is actually,” he genuinely admits, eyeing the crushed peach on the nightstand in amusement. “your remedy does work after all.”
you grinned at his teasing, slowly lifting up your whole body to grab one of the few sizable fragments of the fruit — pressing its sweet yellow flesh against your cum coated lips.
“if you ever feel sick again, i can try out other remedies.” you suggested, raising the sweet remnant towards his mouth.
his eyes light up before he gently grabs your wrist as he takes a bite, holding your unwavering gaze. he catches you off guard with a sudden short tug — locking into a tender kiss. raiden gently drags his tongue along the molars of your mouth and over your quivering lips. the taste of himself and the delicate floral sweetness surprisingly compliment each other.
he slowly pulled away, a trail of saliva between your lips gleamed under the warm light.
“then i hope my fever could last a little longer.”

You know what's something I wished fanon/fanfic/etc explored? The idea of clones, basically traveling the galaxy because of the war not only having their own traditions, but also picking up stuff and being taught things by various people they encounter. Not even necessarily like a culture/tradition. A planet's local militia taught a trooper how to weave grass during a long night waiting for orders.
Of course he brought this to his friends and now the whole battalion makes things from grass or leaves or thread. It's calming, it's fun, they experiment with materials.
The clones who've developed their own culture (not Mandalorian) but also enjoying learning and participating. Let them be happy and want to explore things beyond their DNA donors world. (I also enjoy the idea of them getting to relax and join in on fun, normal activities).
And the idea of different units having different traditions while also sharing them when they're deployed together is fun.
The idea of mindfulness being picked up from Jedi general's and everyone having a unique spin, either copying meditation or meditating while cleaning equipment.
Also I want people to appreciate the clones as their own people.
Yeah, I hardly EVER see the clones depicted as this really interesting mish mash of cultures due to potentially picking up a bunch of shit from civilian populations they meet and then just passing it around their own battalion which could then make it out to the GAR as a whole.
Weaving baskets is a cute one, it could also be something as simple as picking up new spices every time they land somewhere and so their food is this wild fusion cuisine of spices and maybe fruits/dried meats/nuts from all over the galaxy because they just pick up stuff that goes to the kitchens and the clones doing the cooking in the kitchens use whatever they've got available to try to make new dishes. And they end up perhaps getting really good at figuring out how to combine these different ingredients that, on paper, seem like they absolutely should NOT go well together and yet somehow they make it work. And so clone cuisine becomes its own completely unique thing. You could even compare it to Jedi cuisine where they probably end up combining things a lot themselves, but the Jedi would theoretically often have had more access to resources and time to learn whole dishes than the clones do so it's more that the Jedi prepare different specific dishes from a lot of cultures as opposed to the more fusion-style cuisine the clones have come up with.
Or games, it'd be so cute to have the clones picking up all these different sort-of idle games from different civilian children they meet, like gffa versions of hopscotch or hackey sack, maybe card games that aren't sabacc or board games that aren't dejarik but are more specific to this one planet or culture. Maybe the clones start coming up with their OWN card games as they go because they start getting bored of the few that they know and start getting creative from there.
And of course things like different styles of visual art like painting and tattooing and hair styles that they might pick up on and incorporate into their own style that either becomes very popular among the clones on its own or ends up sort-of hybridized and become its own unique clone specific spin on the artform rather than a direct imitation. Writing would be really cool, too, that they pick up things like novels or journals from different cultures and some of the clones start writing creatively and become really prolific among the GAR (and maybe the Jedi too) for their stories. Similar to before, they might start off sort-of imitating styles they see from other cultures, specific kinds of poetry or tropes, but then branch out and put their own spin on it or start combining different things they've learned from various cultures.
Some clones might end up sticking closer to one specific culture they've connected or that just matches their personal taste really well, while others embrace the fusion more, and everything in-between.
And of course we can bring the Jedi into it more, too, and have the Jedi constantly working to introduce the clones to more things, maybe things THEY know and love from various cultures that they think the clones would find fun or interesting. And not just that person's "birth culture" like Ahsoka teaching people about Togruta culture, but things from OTHER CULTURES that they themselves have experimented with and liked. Maybe Ahsoka has a Mon Cal skincare routine she fucking swears by, or a Zabrak meat dish that's her absolute favorite hands down because of how tender they cook it, or her favorite book is actually Rodian because she particularly loves Rodian romance novels. And she introduces the clones to THESE things as well because why wouldn't she? The Jedi have a smorgasbord of options available to them and their culture encourages learning and connecting as much as possible, something I imagine they'd do their best to pass on to the clones in any way available to them.
And of course the Jedi, as some of the only people really out there with the clones and interacting with them regularly, get to be the first to BENEFIT from the hybridization that the clones utilize and get to see more about how these different cultures they've learned and appreciated for so long can be combined in such new and different ways to create something entirely unique and beautiful, so they get to enjoy these things all over again and it's AWESOME! New favorite noodle dish that combined fish from Glee Anselm and spices from Pantora and noodles from Chandrila, new favorite poem that has elements of Naboo and Ryloth in it, new knitted scarf that combined a knitting style from Lothal and a pattern from Shili.
And I've been going more for physical material things so far like food and stuff, but you can include things like slang they pick up from other cultures or maybe rituals of some kind they saw someone do that they asked about and got permission to participate in that they continue to practice afterwards because it's nice and calming.
The interesting part about the clones is that they don't have a "birth" culture to go back to. They were raised in a very sterile environment where everything they were exposed to was something very specific and aimed towards a certain goal. So they might have a favorite fighting move from the ones they were taught on Kamino or a favorite ship to fly of the ones they were taught to use for war, but it would be SO incredibly limited to what the Kaminoans wanted them to learn and not intended to become something the clones really connected to culturally. The Kaminoans themselves clearly HAVE a culture of sorts, they seem to share a style of fashion at least and probably an architectural style, but this isn't something that was passed on to the clones or that they would've been allowed to ever really participate in (beyond maintenance to the buildings, but they wouldn't have gotten a say in things like paint colors or additions to the building for cosmetic reasons, etc). And of course I don't think canon supports the idea that the clones really had a lot of connection to Mando culture and certainly nothing that supports the concept that they would consider it their "birth" culture. Jango barely seems to have passed any sort of Mando heritage on to BOBA, so it seems INCREDIBLY unlikely he'd have passed anything significant on to the clones he DIDN'T consider his son. And the Mando trainers are a legends thing these days, and were never canon anyway, so their exposure to Mando culture would be even more limited than their exposure to Kaminoan culture quite honestly.
All of which means the clones don't really have a firm basis of a birth culture from which to start on and then sort-of experiment out from. They're almost entirely open to whatever they discover or are introduced to in terms of culture. They're not Mando, they're not Kaminoan, they're their OWN THING and they can literally incorporate just about anything and everything into the culture they choose to build and that's SUCH a cool thing to look at and to explore and I don't know if I've really seen that much of it in fics. Especially via the Jedi who are their own massively multi-cultural society and can take the opportunity to really widen the clones' horizons in so many ways.

I get that talking about the specific genre of music Ghost falls into requires a hefty dose of nuance, but there's a big difference between
"While Ghost is a massive fusion of different sounds from across the alternative spectrum, in most cases, they use metal as a base ingredient fairly effectively"
and
"I'm smarter than everyone in the fandom, including op, bc unlike y'all I know that Ghost isn't metal"
The first comment will unlock level 9 friendship with me, and possibly one of those fancy fruit baskets. The second will get you blocked, reported, screen shotted, and nailed to the church door.

The thing about Fruits Basket is like. I want to take the Remnants and pair them with the Zodiac members and do a fusion.
Except there are more Remnants than there are Zodiac members.

In the distance, she could see the familiar trees. The elements had managed to spare her a few ripe apples, and she planned to take advantage of it. She was running low on them back home, and there was something about the wild apples here that were far better than what she could pick up from a store.
She didn’t feel like taking a thirty-minute drive to West City just for apples to begin with.
When the woman reached the orchard, toting a basket, she paused. The small collection of apple trees were once tended to long ago, but they have since been abandoned by whoever owned them. The native herbivorous wildlife in the area have taken to treating them like any other food source, so when the fruit grew and ripened, various animals came to reap the benefits. She believed she would see them rummaging about the branches during this visit.
What she wasn’t expecting to see, was a man sitting down cross-legged at the base of one tree with a dozen or so apples and their cores scattered around him.
The sound of loud munching, crunching, and smacking had her grimace, as did just how quickly he ate. The man finished an apple completely in 5 or so seconds, devouring the flesh around the core before tossing it away and starting on another of the fruit. Thick, black eyebrows were in a raised position over his closed eyes as he held an expression of pleasure, swallowing the mash of food in his mouth and licking the juices off of his lips.
He unexpectedly stopped after a moment, face unchanging.
“Just how long did you plan on staring at me?”
A strong voice called out, making her jump. With wide eyes, she looked around, having detected that there was another voice different in pitch that seemingly spoke at the same time. She didn’t see anyone else around though.
The man’s head turned so he could stare directly at her, and when her eyes met the black irises of his, her mind briefly went blank.
“ … … … …Did you take every single apple in the orchard?”
He tossed upwards and caught one of the red fruits in a gloved hand a few times, studying her, before a smirk appeared on his face.
“Not every single one. You can probably find a couple if you look hard enough.”
There was that voice…voices? Again. There was no doubt now that it was this stranger and him alone who was speaking, but why did he sound like two people talking in unison? She’s never heard such a thing naturally coming from one person before.
It’s only been a minute or two, but this fellow was already coming off as very strange. His wild, spiky black hair and bangs that extended out over his forehead wasn’t too weird, but his clothing…was that a blue gi he was wearing? Why was he wearing white gloves and yellow-tipped white boots with it?
She squinted, and surveyed the mess on the grassy soil. “Did you need to take this many?”
“Hey. A man’s gotta eat.” He nonchalantly stated, taking the apple in his hand up to his mouth so he could take a large bite from it.
The movement of his head caused his yellow earrings to jostle, and the gleam of reflected sunlight off of them finally had her notice the jewelry. If she could even call it that. She’s never seen earrings like his before, but then again, she didn’t exactly keep up with the fashion world…
The brown, apparently furry belt he wore around his waist frankly made her head tilt. When she saw that it twitched ever so slightly, she didn’t know what to think of it.
“…You do know that the animals around here use these trees for food too, right?”
“Eeeeeh, they’ll be alright.” He dismissed her question, crossing one of his legs over the other and crossing his arms behind his head, so he could rest against the tree. The action gave her a better view of his body, and she was stunned by it.
His clothing was loose and a little baggy, but his arms and what she could make out of his torso made it obvious that he was extremely muscular. So much to the point that she wondered just what type of exercise routine he did. She may have believed he was a bodybuilder, if he wasn’t wearing a gi.
It raised another question as to why he was out here alone in the wilderness, but she knew it wasn’t her business to pry. Not that it mattered, as she felt less inclined to continue conversing with him, understanding that he was more than capable of physically overwhelming her…should he choose to do so.
Although confident in her self-defense capabilities, this guy looked like he could bench press a boulder. She didn’t know his character in the slightest, aside from how patronizing he came off as thus far, so she would take no chances here.
The woman made a noise of indignation, and while keeping him in the sight of her narrowed eyes, she stepped around the cores to walk deeper into the orchard. She did take note that there was still a fair amount of ripe apples left hanging from the branches, but she couldn’t take the amount she wanted to now. It was best to take just the minimum of what she needed – two or three of the fruits – and leave the rest for the animals. She guessed she would be making that grocery trip after all. There were other things in her home that needed restocking anyhow.
As she soon left the orchard to go back to her awaiting hovercar, she missed how the flame-haired man quietly observed her as she departed, feeling curious for a reason he couldn’t identify.

@fusiioneternal asked: The night did drag on a bit, but falling into the focus and rhythm of exercising allowed him to zone out, up until he noticed the vast green field he was in beginning to brighten. Morning arrived; the light of the sun washed over him, reminding the fusion of why exactly he was here in the first place. Blowing out a puff of air, he wiped the sweat from his brow and figured he could take a quick dip in a nearby stream to somewhat freshen up before returning home, and gathered his discarded clothes from last night.
He decided to stop hiding his ki and fly back, so Nabooru would be aware of his approach. Gogeta did pass by a farmer's market on his way, and figuring they would be nice additions to breakfast, bought a basket of various fresh fruits and berries. Minutes later, he descended onto their doorstep, opening the front door and closing it behind him. He was slightly surprised to see the Gerudo cooking, but was thankful, since it at least gave him a way to begin a (hopefully) non-awkward conversation with her.
❝ Hey. ❞ His tone was casual, implying his mood wasn't in any poor state at the moment. He entered the kitchen and placed the basket on one of the counters. ❝ You started breakfast already? ❞
No more than inch of counter was visible among plates, trays, and pans laden with every successful and failed attempt Nabooru made at cooking in her distracted state. Eggs every way. Towers of toast, a little less than half of the slices half burnt. An array of all kinds of every meat they had on hand cooked and stacked in haphazard piles. All manner of fruit was cut up and place din bowls and arranged on plates. Out of room, she carried her latest creations out to the dining room table, a quarter of it already sharing the same fate as the counters.
She lost track of how long she had been cooking, and only when she sensed Gogeta’s approach did she slip out of her manic-cooking haze. In her surprise, she hissed as the knife slipped and sliced into her palm while cutting up and apple. She moved to the sink and rinsed it, though she paid more attention to his trajectory than cleaning the cut, expecting him to change course or land somewhere that wasn’t at their doorstep. He did once, but continued onward, closer and closer until he landed and stepped inside. Just how she imagined again and again throughout the night.
Tumblr media
“ Hey, ” she greeted in return, turning off the tap. She smiled, though she wasn’t sure how convincing it looked, and wrapped a towel around her hand. “ Um...yeah. I woke up early and didn’t know what I wanted or what you might want so I just...made...everything. ”
She glanced around at the disaster area she had made of the kitchen. She wasn’t sure how much of it was edible or tasted decent. Or how insane it all looked. “ How was your night? ” she asked and nodded to the basket. “ Did you stop at the market? ”

are you a fan of any shojo/josei works?
Wish I were! Josei stories in particular seem to run the gamut of mature stories in interesting locations that don’t really fit to any one mold or trope, but I read manga on an irregular basis and rarely read something I haven’t already seen others talking about. There’s doubtless some really good stuff out there…but the few that I have tried (Fruits Basket, Ao Haru Ride) don’t fit my preference for either loud, dumb, and action-packed. In general I’m not a fan of m/f romances and the tropes associated with them in female-targeted manga (the overbearing/controlling older guy, the clumsy everygirl, the female friends who function mostly as cheerleaders) which makes it hard to get into some stuff.
Shoujo/josei that I have enjoyed are
BANANA FISH, a violent thriller/action subtextual BL that reads as a bizarre fusion of The Wire and That One Darkfic You Read At Age 15, a tight series with allowances for 80s + bl tropes that should absolutely be read with a list of CWs.
Shimanami Tasogare/Our Dreams At Dusk, a sort of pan-demographic slice of life with some melodramatic moments, you’ve doubtless heard of it but it is as good as they say. A quick and impactful read, I want to read the mangaka’s other works but I really need to emotionally prepare myself first lol.
GSNK, it’s funny!
Hakuouki. Purely a matter of timing. I watched it as my third anime ever and became obsessed with the way the side characters were built up in drama CDs and bonus content, many of which only exist as translated on the tokio-fujita LJ by a person who is now unfortunately deceased(?) but back in the day successfully pulled a minor scam or two within the fandom. Pretty mid, has all the same fatal flaws as any VN adaptation, interesting cast and ideas HAMSTRUNG by having to stick to the main m/f romance, women robbed of all relevance and agency, somehow the male protag’s love interest in the prequel is far better written than the female protag. This series is indivisible from my love of all animanga so I can’t tell how good or bad it is. I can only say that I spent a very very long time thinking about it. Classic shinsengumi story, Japan is torn by a civil war between traditionalist and modernizing factions, but also there are magically enhanced vampiresoldiers and a line of bloodsucking demons seeking to continue their race through eugenic matchups. It’s Anime as anything.
There are a few others that fall into josei/shoujo-adjacent but that aren’t officially in the category I think? After Hours (mature and sedate slice of life romance), No. 6 (slow biological sci fi), Shadows House (ontological mystery thriller) are all series I’ve enjoyed but never quite got to ‘fan’ except for Shadows House, which I really need to catch up on
Bonus rec: Hakkenden: Eight Dogs of the East is as far as I can tell just a cringe, tropey bl-inflected adventure with godawful pacing that I somehow watched in grade 10? Absolutely would not recommend for a quality watch but it’s obscure enough that it has a certain novelty.
I’ve rb’d a few josei/shoujo recs for future references as I keep searching for something to vibe with so all recommendations are welcome! Next one I am considering a read of is XXXHolic, haven’t yet started because while the pros are that it is CLAMP, the cons are that it is also CLAMP and my list of works to consume is too long to spend time trying to figure out whose legs are whose.
If you’re looking for manga to read, I have to recommend Screentone Club podcast! They do first-volume reviews of mostly new manga without anime adaptations that hit the sweet spot of brief, literate, and indicative without being spoilery. Doesn’t work well for series that get good in the 8th volume, but it’s my go-to for broadening my awareness of the current scene.

I’ll be praying for you. I’m 50 and I’ve dealt with inflammation for sure. For me, cooking from scratch, trying to stay away from preservatives has really helped me. If you can maybe make a tomato soup or vegetable soup from scratch eat all of that also infusing water with fruits and vegetables to flood your system with some good nutrients to address the current inflammation that you’re dealing with right now.
As of 2011 I’ve been on a bit of a weight-loss journey so definitely keeping my weight down has helped. I’m down to a size 8 to 10 now. If I get sloppy and deal with any type of heartburn or acid reflux in the morning, working on my core and my abs with just weight bands helps me too.
Lots and lots of water with lemon. Stay away from any alcohol until you’re much much better.
Of course walking and lots and lots of sun but I think since you’re in Florida you probably already get lots of sun.😊
I take supplements also magnesium calcium vitamin D, two of those a day, from vitamin shop. A multi vitamin. My husband got this liver support supplement—I take two of those a lot of the time. we need the liver to be flushing out the impurities better.
I am on Metformin and one of the statins for cholesterol so I do need the supplements to offset what metformin might deplete for me. Such as b12. Oh extra b12 has been good for me.
Of course I’m not a doctor so this is just what I’ve been doing to help. I also was dealing with frozen shoulder for two years so I really had to figure out what was causing issues for me. (I can also deal with headaches so I’m trying to stay in tune with my body for sure.). Oh also in an effort to have remove more chemicals from my life, I don’t color my hair anymore so I’m all white hair pretty much.😂. and I usually use a bar soap made out of goats milk from this farm in Wellsboro PA although sometimes I still use other things in the shower.
Be careful of all the anti bacterial stuff and wipes I think we’re probably using that stuff too much and who knows what’s seeping into our skin?
Just stuff I do.😊
I always try to give a shout-out when anons describe products.
I just came back from pain management, and it looks like I'm getting Tramadol 50mg and increasing my gabapentin by one hundred mg😉That will work, not LOL. My insurance company is giving Walgreens a hard time. I'm not going to be able to afford it.
Why? Because they can't do anything for me at C-4-5 because I had disc fusion. You know, when you hit your funny bone, that's what feels like all day long. Pins and needles.
Doc will try to see if insurance will pay for scatter shots. They are cracking down big time!
I take most of what you recommended. I can tell you might have two baskets of meds, herbs, and supplements like me. I have a big aloe plant. I'll add that.
I eat tomatoes, which are terrible if you eat the skin and seeds. It causes inflammation.
I'm from Jersey. We love our tomatoes!
I do like to cook as much fresh as possible. Times get tough; those things that are good for you become expensive.
Thank you for taking the time to help me. It's thoughtful and very appreciated.
Love, JD 😜💋🤟🏻
