I think it really sucks! Even if it was a "fluke" on the company's part, it's annoying and disheartening to all the folks who worked hard on it and everyone who was gearing up to see it. If someone has seen it, don't discuss it in public spaces! Don't comment on peoples' posts referring to spoiled content, and don't leave spoilers in tags - OP can see those! Even vague hints about it will cause people to want to go rooting for it and ultimately spread it around further. Don’t send me asks either- I’ll delete those lmao.

But know that this blog is totally safe from all spoilers and 'leaked' content of any kind about For the Future, and will remain that way until January 22 - and even then I'll be using spoiler tags for at least 2-3 weeks after FTF airs officially!

I am 99% sure that Dana Terrace was referencing Kirby when making the Collector. For context, I've not seen For the Future yet, so please no spoilers beyond the trailer. I haven't seen anything other than Luz's palisman, that one thirty second clip from the owl club, and an irrelevant screenshot of Hunter.

Still not convinced? Well I believe there was a specific game Dana was referencing: (MAJOR KIRBY SPOILERS AHEAD)

In Kirby star Allies, Kirby gains the ability to turn enemies into friends by launching friend hearts on them.

It’s an ability unlocked by a botched resurrection/rebirth of a dead god accidentally granting Kirby that ability.

No seriously, that's how it happens.

Here's a short summary for those not familiar with the Kirby franchise.

Basically, cult leader Lord Hyness and his closest followers once managed to stop an out-of-control being named Galacta Knight (shown below)

However, the people eventually began to fear LH and his ilk, so they preemptively tried to seal them away and erase their existence from history (rude). LH and his people survived and managed to obtain a vessel containing their Dark Lord (basically, an egg that housed a god or godlike being) Cult leader Lord Hyness then attempted to resurrect the god Void Termina.

But the ceremony went horrible wrong, shattering the vessel into friend hearts and dark hearts that were scattered to the stars. One such friend heart landed on Kirby, granting him the ability to quote-un-quote, "befriend" his enemies...

...

... by which I mean brainwash smaller enemies into doing his biddies while exorcising dark-heart-possessed individuals by beating the shit out of them until they were no longer usable vessels for possession. I'm not even kidding, this is actually canon.

Eventually, Kirby, with his amassed allies, confronts Belos, Hyness, who has this to say:

We are the masters of a power driven to the far reaches of the universe, and we have but one desire! Can one such as you possibly fathom how dearly we have clung to this dream across the aeons? How could you! You couldn't! Never ever ever! We who once faced those who were in such fear of our power that they sealed us away and banished us to the edge of the galaxy! US! As if THAT loveliness wasn't enough, they tried to erase our very existence from history! RUDE! Only through our magic were we able to overcome their science and achieve great prosperity! We alone were responsible for stopping that repulsive nightmare of a galactic crisis, yet this is how you repay us! This won't stand! It won't be forgiven! It won't be forgotten! Never ever EVER! Those who called us mad, are you listening? You left us at the edge of the galaxy to be forgotten, then went along your merry way, probably living somewhere pretty and peaceful! But know this! And when cornered, he drains the life source of his closest followers, his priestesses, and uses them as fucking battering rams.

Oh and btw they're all conscious when this happens. If you listen closely, you can actually hear their grunts of pain when they hit the ground.

When that fails, he forces the god-resurrection to fruition by tossing in the priestesses' bodies and his own into the alter, bringing foooooRTH!!!

VOID TERMINA.

A morally neutral being who also uses the same tactics as Kirby to defeat his enemies (except somehow Void doing it makes it evil or something *shrug*). Oh, and Void's implied to be born from the same material as Kirby (or vice versa).

Upon Void's defeat, it's said he may be reborn in another form and perhaps someday... a friend.

AND THEN THERE'S THE OWL HOUSE

In which The Collector, a god or godlike being, was sealed away by a Titan (probably because of their destructive, reckless nature - idk for sure I haven't seen the episode). As an act of revenge, the Collector made a deal with the inhabitants of the titan trapper witches: he would grant them (or more specifically Bill - not GF Bill btw) power in exchange for slaughtering the Titans. The blood of the last Titan (King) would then be used to revive The Collector from his prison.

Then along comes a scrunkly dunkly old human who winds up trapped on the Boiling Isles, a realm populated by witches and demons living atop a carcus. Convinced of the inherently evil nature of the inhabitants, he deceives them into aiding him in their own execution.

In order to pull this off, he enlists the help of The Collector. In exchange for promising to release them, The Collector teaches Belos magic "stronger than anybody's." That is, the Draining Spell.

Belos then professes himself to be able to commune with the dead Titan (the Boiling Isles itself) and thus convinces them to brand themselves with the sigils that would serve as their metaphorical nooses.

The draining spell works, but Belos breaks his promise by using up the last of the Titan's Blood to (attempt to) travel home, only to thwarted by Luz, who traps him in the draining spell.

Meanwhile, King makes a deal with the now-betrayed Collector: stop the draining spell in exchange for their freedom and a game of "Owl House." The Collector agrees, and King follows through on his promise. Well, part of it anyway. He frees the Collector, they stop the spell, but he attempts to escape with Luz to the human realm. The Collector stops this; Luz, her friends, and unfortunately Belos manage to escape to the human realm.

There, Belos goes around possessing and consuming various woodland creatures until he has enough sustenance to possess Hunter, one of his former second-in-commands.

This ultimately fails, which leads to him fleeing back to the Boiling Isles, where For the Future begins.

NOW LET'S TALLY UP OUR PARALLELS

WE GOT:

Horrifically misguided religious leader? Check.

Masked at some point? Yep.

Drains their closest followers and uses their bodies for their own gain? Yep.

Particularly brutally betrays their second in command?

OH YEAH.

Winds up sucked into that very spell themselves? Sorta.

Hyness intentionally sacrifices himself to the spell in order to resurrect Void Termina, whereas Belos is tricked by Luz into getting drained by the spell.

Not to mention we got the fuckin uhhhhh GODLIKE BEING WHO MIND CONTROLS FORCIBLY BEFRIENDS PEOPLE

This could be Void or Kirby paralleling the Collector depending on how you read it. However, Void and Kirby are definitely two sides of the same coin, and if my interpretation is correct, I believe The Collector is meant to be a parallel of BOTH. Neither good nor evil: simply raw power put in the hands of a child too young to comprehend or manage it.

Now I'll admit, TOH doesn't follow the KSA story tit for tat. I believe that Titan-trappers take the role of the people who sealed away the eldritch power. The placement of Galacta Knight vs the Titan as who fits in what role is harder determine.

Despite this, there are definitely some pretty solid inspirations.

The aesthetic of FTF very clearly draws inspiration from KSA. Hell, KSA was originally released in 2018, around the time Dana was developing the series. It's very likely she drew inspiration from this video game, if not played it herself. There are simply too many parallels to count.

With the leak being more spread around even with spoiler warnings, and because of a post I saw earlier when the news of the entire ep being leaked was first breaking, I gotta say

This really is disheartening to see. This really does hurt the whole series and the ones behind it. As of right now, we haven't gotten an official release date, yes we got the 21st from the TV listings but I mean no source from Dana or disney, and while most of us on here know about it, more casual fans and even some international fans don't, so the entire episode being leaked could hurt their excitement or love for the premieres that Always (seriously I mean ALWAYS LMAO never forget HM) get an incredible amount of notoriety, which help boost more support for the series, which JUST recently got noticed by disney.

It hurts the chance of the franchise getting more support (ie books, comics, a possible video game, more official merchant, etc) because of the less talk about the episode.

And while yes a lot of people (including Ms Dana Terrace herself) pirate the show, whether it be due to international troubles or insufficient funds to get disney+, what ultimately helps as well is the notoriety each episode gets. Anyone can pirate yet still make 100+ posts about how good each new episode was and it would help!

Yet this time it doesn't help cause this came outta nowhere and now so many are just being spoiled, getting their hype flattened and being pretty inconsiderate to the entire crew who made all of it possible, the same crew who already were disrespected by their very company. (And I do mean everyone! So many of the crew aren't given as much props and respect yet deserve it all the same!)

And ngl, it really sucks considering this is the 2nd to very LAST possible product of The Owl House as a whole. There was so much support for Thanks to Them yet FtF already seems a bit cluttered.

It's not hopeless cause there's still a chance FtF gets a huge amount of support when it officially releases. This is a huge problem tho, one that's already leaking through every big ocial media.

There's really not a point to this post other than just to say, this fucking blows, support the series in any official way you can when it officially releases (Make posts! Draw as much art as you can! Tune into the PostHoots! Make as much noise as you can!), and please be considerate to those who refuse to even look at it until the time is right.

I saw the trailer... and the only thing I'm surprised about is that they actually followed through on the dream trap scenario. Back before FTF aired one of my theories was that Luz was going to get put into a dream trap. She was going to get put in a dream trap as a way to contrast WBW, where a magical entity takes advantage of Luz's current emotional upset to get something out of her.

And see... here's what's interesting to me: this dream trap clearly happens after The Collector puts Eda, King, and The Collector through a game. Something happened to Luz that made her susceptible to this kind of trap. And in this dream she sees herself as a villain. This is very strange given her conversation with her mother in FTF. Through this conversation you'd think Luz would have moved on from the whole "I helped Philip meet TC so im clearly an awful person" thing... but she hasn't. Another thing is: The Collector is clearly tampering with this dream to keep her trapped in it. He takes the dolls of her friends away from her when the Amity doll gives Luz the light glyph. And THEN the trailer spoils Luz getting out of the dream by using the glyph Amity gave her... like really? You are just gonna spoil that? Okay...

But yeah uh... what exactly happened to Luz to put her in this dream trap? She sure as hell didn't get stabbed because that's something Philip is going to do to her at the end of the episode. He isnt going to do it now because hes preoccupied with something... So its like... what happened to Luz?

For some reason, The Collector feels it is necessary to put her in a dream trap AFTER his initial game with her. But not Eda and King. Eda and King are separated from Luz for some reason. Theyre standing in a field with eyes everywhere.

They are still going to follow through on sending King to the past. Its still going to happen because as you can see, The Collector is not hanging around King in any of the scenes in the trailer. And now it looks like King and Eda are going to do something stupid like try to fight the literal god child. I said before that The Collector was going to hurt King in a way he can't take back. He's going to send Luz back in time first. Hes not going to kill Luz, because Belos is foreshadowed to be the one who kills Luz.

As for that weird eye shit on the ground... I dont think it's Belos. Because if Belos was capable of possessing the titans body, he would have done that first before wasting so much time doing the Day of Unity thing. This feels more like a Collector thing, because hes actually capable of producing nightmarish stuff like his star servants. If this was a Belos possessing the isles thing... the Collector would put a stop to it. Because he hates Belos more than he hates Luz. And I really dont think Belos actually possessed The Collector because like... how could he do that when he couldnt even get him while he was asleep?

One last thing: Lilith getting turned into a doll basically confirmed my whole "Belos is going to kill Eda" theory lol.

I'm so conflicted on whether to watch FTF or wait. On one hand, it's awful that the episode ever leaked in the first place, and I feel like I should wait to watch it out of respect for Dana and the rest of the team who worked so hard on it. On the other hand, it feels like everybody has already seen it, and avoiding spoilers until the 21st seems impossible. I've already had a couple things spoiled for me because people put them in thumbnails and then they get recommended to me! So part of me feels like I should just watch it before I get spoiled any further, then rewatch the episode when it officially releases to make sure I'm still supporting the show.

Idk, I'm just so conflicted, and upset that this is even a choice we need to make in the first place.

Disney cancelling The Owl House midway through production was bad enough, but the fact that both Thanks of Them and For The Future got leaked in advance pisses me off to no end.

Disney is notorious for cracking down on Star Wars and MCU spoilers, so don’t tell me they couldn’t have put out a memo telling someone not to upload FTF on iTunes in advance.

They most likely wanted the episode to leak early so they could say “Well, when the show aired, it didn’t do so well in the ratings. So there’s no point in doing a continuation or spin off.”

So tired of this bullshit.
