Ah, there it is! I saw a post like this the other day and I could not, for the life of me find it back, so I'm glad I get to share my thoughts about this after all (not that anything would've stopped me) Prepare for the essay, I never keep things short!

The Rockrose and the Thistle, is in my opinion a love song of sorts, but a different kind of love song that Extraordinary Things is, focused on the first part of it. Both songs are very similar in more ways than just recurring notes. Both songs are written in Dminor. (wheras Extraordinary Things has Minor Melodic elements that raises the 6th note to create the G major chord he plays when he sings the lyrics ‘extraordinary things’ and sings an A on top which sounds really pretty and immediately caught my ear) 

The notes everyone is referring to are in the intro of Extraordinary Things, D C D E F E F G A B♭ A G A  (I put it on a scale because I can and I’m a nerd. I also love the harmonies)

And it doesn’t just come back in the Rockrose and the Thistle, there’s two other songs written in Dminor in the Horror and the Wild and that is The Horror and the Wild, where the repetition of these tones are beautifully audible in Madeleine’s ‘You are the son of every dressing up box’ and Farewell Wanderlust, where they immediately accentuate that B♭ (which is the 6th note of the Dminor scale) in instrumentals. In Farewell Wanderlust they also play with more chromatic elements as they add a flat second note and a flat seven. The use of chromatic elements (half note distances) isn’t new for Joey and Madeleine and in my opinion it just adds a lot to the musicality of it all, it’s clever, it immediately catches my ear, it’s subtle things like that that make me keep coming back to their music. Rather than a melodic minor scale, Joey could’ve just added that half note distance to add a major G chord to his scale, because the use of major chords in minor scales is just chef’s kiss in my musical opinion, especially in combination with the words he sings. The notes he uses are not uncharacteristic for Joey’s music.

NOW LISTEN, I LOVE this ask because it means I can break down every aspect of what I love about Joey’s singing and what different things I love about Jaskier’s singing. Because oh my god the TALENT, to still make people go ‘wait I just found out that Joey Batey sings both in the Amazing Devil and as Jaskier in the Witcher’ to this day astonishes me and I’m never surprised when someone stumbles upon that realization. The breathiness he uses on his voice in both the Rockrose and the Thistle (and more TAD songs) and Extraordinary Things blows my mind. But there’s a difference to the way he uses it in both songs, let me try to explain. He sings with an aspirated voice (Which means to sing with a breathy voice) in The Rockrose and the Thistle, but in Extraordinary Things, it feels like sometimes he is just breathless and it’s so beautiful and small and soft and intimate, considering the words he’s singing. We, as singers at the conservatory, were taught to make our breaths as inaudible as possible, to remove as much breath from our voices as possible, when singing on record. So needless to say it is a DELIGHT to hear Joey just put his whole heart and soul into every breath he takes, he’s considerate of every syllable, the volume of his voice, the clearness or lack thereof, the shakiness of his breaths fucking kill me dead… ALSO what astonishes me the most about the difference between his TAD songs and his Jaskier songs is the change in vibrato. Jaskier uses more vibrato in his voice than Joey does in the Amazing Devil and I go INSANE about that because my teachers have always said that vibrato is a hard thing to control and requires a lot of training and he’s just out there, mending it to his will as if it is no big deal, like :-) King? I’m jealous, hello?

ㅤ ㅤ He couldn’t figure it out; why Saemus cared for him so much. Out of everyone that deserved it, Gabe didn’t consider himself to be on that list of people. Yet, there he was. Doing his best to convince him that he didn’t care if he didn’t believe him or not, regardless, he still cared for him. Deeply too, at that. It made Gabriel's’ heart race within his chest. So much so that he couldn’t even find the words to tell him how much his own meant to him. Instead, he swept him up in a tight hug, muttering ‘thank you’ over and over, holding onto him as if he’d float away if he let go anytime soon.

You should have known when that guy with the tray of hors d’oeuvres who looked suspiciously like Cole Cassidy tripped into your vision.

With Gabriel Reyes making an entrance, there’s no denying that Blackwatch is here for you. It’s not even that you’ve done anything exceptionally terrible, there are plenty of worse figures all about the room, but their existence here doesn’t change the fact that you are tonight’s target. And while you’re as undercover as the commander, a presence not easily hidden, you’ve already been given away. Perhaps by a certain waiter who smelt like cigar smoke.

“We’ve got to stop running into each other like this,” you say as Reyes stands before you, already plotting an escape plan. There are numerous potential exits, but none seem viable when he’s as close as he is. His bulk and speed are inescapable—well, nearly.

“Well, maybe stop being so obvious,” he says with his casual quality, like an old friend. Even when he has every right to be hostile, he isn’t. Doesn’t need to be. “Unless you’re purposely trying to run into me.”

“I bet you’d like that, Reyes.”

“Maybe I would. You are the one that got away.”

“You make it sound like it only happened once.”

Tonight would mark the third attempt. Even when he could have before when it would have made the most sense to, he refused to raise a shotgun at you, and much is the same now. 

Besides, you won’t fight; you’ll run.

You’re very good at that.

“I’d like it if you let me apprehend you this time,” he says in his offhand way.

The commander is too likable for his own good. 

“Wanna do me a favour and look the other way? What I did was barely Illegal. Immoral, maybe, but no one is perfect.” Lifting a flute of champagne to your lips, you survey him over the rim. “Besides, what’s your plan here? You’ll blow your cover the second you put your hands on me in front of everyone.”

“You’re right. Seeing how Cole nearly blew our cover the second we got here, I’d prefer not making another spectacle,” he says, taking your glass and setting it on a passing waiter’s tray who just happens to cut between you at just the right moment. You catch the scent of cigar smoke again. “I’ve got a better idea… Wanna dance?”

It’s not a suggestion.

As if you’re his willing partner, he snatches you up and leads you to the heavily-peopled dancefloor. His strength affords him to effortlessly maneuver and direct you through a charade of a dance until you break through to the other side of the room, clear out to the veranda and into the night. 

Despite the fact that you know he is leading you to your capture, you admire his inventive method. The Commander Reyes doesn’t put you into a headlock. He merely whisks you off your feet.

Lucky you.

“And where are we going now?” You ask once it’s clear that he isn’t about to let you lose for love or money. You see it in his face when you look up over your shoulder.

“What? Upset we can’t dance more?” He continues moving with that straight-ahead look of someone who refuses to be distracted. “Maybe, if you cooperate, we can have another go at HQ. Just don’t make me do all the work next time.”

An endearing plan, if there was any veracity in the offer—but you had something else in mind.

“You clean up nice,” you say—a genuine compliment.

“Flattery? Suspect. You must want something from me.”

“Just curious if you’re still armed.”

“Real cute of you to think I’d set out on a mission without firepower, even if I don’t think I’ll need it.” He sneers. “You wouldn’t be asking because you’re looking for a fight now, would you?”

“I’m smarter than that.”

“Unfortunately, I know.”

Still, you refocus and press again, “You’ve really got everything on under this suit?”

For this comment, you receive a quick itemizing look. “You ask everyone what they’re wearing under their clothes?” 

“Only when it benefits me,” you admit, slipping a finger along his belt from how he holds you and forces you to continue your forward march. Keeping the pressure lighter than light, your hand wanders. “Smoke grenades, too?”

In the last few seconds, before you find and release the pin, you see his face transform with understanding before the two of you are enveloped by white phosphorus. 

The one that got away is no hyperbole.

But yes Gabe loves all of his nieces and nephews. He always wanted a lot of kids, but he only ever had Zoot (he's not complaining he'd literally jump in front of a train for his son) so he makes sure to support and connect with all of his niblings. He's the uncle you wanna call if you get arrested. Gabe is a very easygoing and understanding person, and he wants to be someone his family can rely on. Even if he doesn't always have a lot of money or wealth, he has a lot of heart :]

3. What genre would your OC do badly in but it would be hilarious or interesting to watch?

Simon: White collar or medical drama. He's too much of a hurricane of a character for that sort of thing, and I think the bureaucracy would make him explode. It'd be super interesting to watch him argue with everyone though. Take a shot for every time he gets escorted out by security.

Gabe: This one is tricky because I feel like Gabe is adaptable enough to work out in a lot of different settings. I think that an absolute no-go would be family-friendly media and/or things made for kids because he'd swear way too much and plant a lot of bad ideas in peoples heads.

KZM: Slice of life anime. Please for the love of god, take a moment and imagine this with me.

4. What media does your character enjoy?

Simon: Unironically, I think he'd really enjoy shit like how it's made or forged in fire. Or those woodworking shows where someone just calmly makes a table. Sit him down in front of that for a while and maybe he'll chill out a little bit, it's like a cat sensory video for him. I feel like Simon would also watch competition shows and just yell at the fucking screen the entire time.

Gabe: Reality TV shows, horror, and tabloids. The trashier the better. Also into documentaries about history or niche subjects.

KZM: Recordings of lectures -- Imagine a Youtube video of someone going through a powerpoint with the shittiest audio quality you could imagine. He would be the type to put something like that on in the background while he works on other things. The drier and more academic it is, the more he'll probably like it. If you try to make him listen to a podcast with a sponsor segment, he'll kill you with a brick.

the Kwami remember, but since the timeline has been rewritten, the new rules of that reality dictate Marinette never had the Ladybug Miraculous, since its a new slate. As a result, even if he orders, Tikki can't say Marinette was Ladybug, because its not true. Basically he fucked himself over by not asking for that information pre-wishmaking, because now, due to everything being scrambled, reality isn't letting shit from the old timeline leak through in order to stabilize it.

during cassidy's time in blackwatch, he was considered to have a mild case of hearing loss. results of improper use of ear protection ( uh...not wearing any ) throughout his childhood & teen years, specifically around the farm's heavy machinery and firearms. it only got worse over the years, considering his line of work within overwatch — he can think of several incidents that could've singlehandedly worsened his case, but it never caused enough of a problem to warrant intervention. he didn't think so, anyway — his friends and colleagues may say otherwise. by the time of recall, it's become pretty noticeable. you'll get a lot of what's and "ignored" vocal exchanges, but it's just simply because he didn't hear you. you'll have to speak up, or maybe tap on his shoulder before trying to talk to him if you'd rather not have to repeat yourself.
