Honestly I know so many people who like. Know about Vocaloid, maybe other synths too, enjoy it, but feel distanced from it because they can't really put their hands in it. That was me for many years.

If you like some vocal synth voices, if you think it'd be fun for a vocal synth voice to say this and sing that, remember that there are many ways to use vocal synths for free.

You could make your own covers, or you could just. Make them say the one funny sentence and go "hehee"

UTAU is a free program that allows for anyone to create their own vocal synth, and for anyone to use these vocal synths, (or UTAUs) granted they have the download link. There are a few famous UTAUs like Kasane Teto or Namine Ritsu, but you could also fall in love with a lesser known UTAU created by some rando! In case you don't enjoy using UTAU, the program, there are front-ends for it such as OpenUtau that are easier to use with some more functions. There are UTAUs in many different languages.

Synthesizer V Basic is the free version of Synthesizer V. It's completely useable on its own, with some limitations such as having only three tracks at a time (which is completely manageable) and not being able to use paid voicebanks to their full potential (which won't impact you if you only use the free voicebanks). As of right now, being that I'm missing just a few Standard Lites, I have 22 Lite (aka free) voicebanks, + 3 Free Limited Trial voicebanks on SynthV. This includes some voicebanks you may be familiar with, such as Kasane Teto SV, Eleanor Forte, Eleanor Forte AI, SOLARIA, Haruno Sora...

Synthesizer V Editor (also known as R1) is an old version of Synthesizer V with a free trial that you can use forever. It has a few free voicebanks, iirc being Yamine Renri, GENBU and Eleanor Forte. If you like GENBU, you might be interested in testing his R1 voicebank, since his Lite on SynthV Basic has some imperfections. (sob)

DeepVocal is another free program similar to UTAU. It has its own voicebanks and its own appearance. It's not currently being developed but you can continue to download and use all its free voicebanks!

NEUTRINO is a lesser known AI program which is, at the moment, completely free. It's a little tricky to use, and is not compatible with... well, my PC for example, but if you listen to it and like its voices, it's worth looking into - it may work for you!

VoiSona is another current program that can be downloaded for free with a free voicebank, being Chis-A! If you like Chis-A... she's free!

I'm less familiar with ACE Studio because I don't. personally like it. but it comes with a free trial - another option to look into!

I think you can also get you a free trial for VOCALOID6 with its native voicebanks. If you're into text-to-speech programs, VOICEVOX is an option if you know Japanese! (It supports some recognisable voicebank such as GENBU-as-just-a-guy, Namine Ritsu, Shikoku Metan who is also on UTAU and NEUTRINO... etc.)

Thanks to her new SynthV voicebank, there's even talk of Gumi Megpoid having a Lite (aka free) voicebank in the future. If you want to get into vocal synth, if you just want to test it out, you can do it right now for free. I'm sure I forgot some examples. People often talk about their paid voicebanks collections, about buying the newest release, but you can do so much for free. Like just get Chis-A. What's stopping you? Some SynthV Lite voicebanks are really high quality, like Kyomachi Seika AI, to me, is barely distinguishable from her full version. Sorry to keep rambling, but I think the "wow! you can make a neocities website for free??!" site needs to know you can also make a vocal synth cover for free. You can make your own songs featuring a vocal synth for free (not commercially) too.

I think when it comes to owning voicebanks (legally lmao), I probably would like Teto's SynthV (along with the pro version of SynthV cause I can only use lites) Oh and maybe Asterian too actually, I just tried out his lite version and it sounds so good... Oh and Solaria too, and maybe uhhhhhh Frimomen when he gets released.... (And maybe a new Genbu if that ever happens, please make it happen he deserves it.....) Then for 11, I usually cycle through a handful of songs in short periods of time because of how likes in soundcloud work so if I had to think of one maybe it would be.... Hey, I haven’t talked about my “fanloid” here yet!

The word “fanloid” is in quotes because her existence is a bit complicated...basically, Saki is an OC I made up to represent a real voicebank (Saki (Lite), from Dreamtonics Synthesizer V) that doesn’t have an avatar at this moment in time.

This video is the latest one (3rd) I’ve made for her, although it’s not exactly representative of what I usually do-- for one thing, it’s a duet (you can see the first 2 videos on my account). I’m only putting it up here first because I really like the art I made for it~

I haven’t drawn the Matryoshka outfits since I was a kid; this was kinda nostalgic. ^^ Also, this was my first time drawing GENBU (green jacket), an actual SynthV avatar, and preparing to work out a design I can use for him in the duets that will follow...more on that later.

Anyway, SynthV is very new, most of the voicebanks are less than 2 years old, and there’ll be lots of interesting developments to look forward to in the near future. ^^  For once, I’m early to the party, and I can’t wait to see how things go~.

GENBU (or Kurono Takehiro - I like this iteration of him as well, although I am very much a SynthV fan first) is my husb- I mean the love of my l- I mean, like if a voicebank could appeal to my taste in moronic men. He is a voicebank not a lot of people like due to never getting a much needed AI update and unfairly being the only masculine Lite voicebank for a very long time - remaining the only masculine Lite standard voicebank even now. What I'm saying is I could defend him for days. Quarantine Q & A

• Are you staying home from work/home?

I am! I’m actually enrolled in an online degree program from my university as it seemed to most practical for my financial and emotional needs, and I’ve been enrolled since the spring of last year. However, my flow has still been disrupted, from not being able to escape to a coffee shop to push myself to finish essays, to not seeing my IRL friends regularly, to my parents (already retired and spending a ton of time around, mind you), being constantly around.

• If you’re staying home, who’s with you?

My cat, Mica, and my parents. They both have health problems and at first, it was a bit of a fight to get them to take social distancing seriously.

• Are you a homebody?

Not really! I like to go out a few times a week and hang out with my friends. I’m okay if I can get out of the house for just a walk (and a PokeStop, lol) around my neighborhood but this is getting to me.

• What movies have you watched recently? What shows?

I think the last full movie I saw was The Hustle (2019) ... I like Anne Hathaway, the movie was so forgettable I had to check my Netflix history to check the name. Pretty sure the last movie in theaters was Birds of Prey which was, as they call it, fantabulous. I’ve been rewatching the 90s Sailor Moon with some friends and I watch a lot of cooking shows and Urbex stuff on youtube while I study. I recently finished Keep Your Hands of Eizouken!! which is probably in my top 10 anime. I heard the new season of Kaguya-sama: Love is War is out, so I’ll probably start watching that.

• An event you were looking forward to that got cancelled?

Sakuracon, my best friend was coming to stay with me in a hotel and hang out with me for a while, and we would’ve gotten to a lot of fun activities like karaoke, bar hopping, and seeing sights in the area. We also canceled a family trip to the beach, and a trip to Madison in September is on the rocks, as well as Fanfest, probably. On a similar note, my parents were going to leave me to house-sit for almost the whole summer and now I’m not going to get that break from them. :’)

• What music are you listening to?

Right now, Sir Babygirl’s album Crush on Me. I’m pretty obsessed. Lately, I’ve gotten into a ton of artists I didn’t know much of before - especially Mitski and Screaming Females. Going to the goth night event the other day reawakened my old love for Buck-Tick and Malice Mizer, and before that I was listening to a ton of old school Alanis Morissette and Fiona Apple. Honestly, you can’t ask me a question about music without hearing dozens of suggestions. My taste is pretty eclectic

• What are you reading?

I’m currently studying In Between, poetry comics by Mita Mahato, for one of my classes. On my downtime, a friend of mine recently suggested I read Fushigi Yuugi Genbu Kaiden so I’ll be checking that out.

• What are you doing for self-care?

I’ve been trying to do social media dry days on Mondays for a while now, maybe almost a whole year now. Except, honestly, I still log onto Tumblr and just stay off Twitter on Mondays. In general, I try to check in with myself so I don’t spend hours endlessly scrolling on anything. If something makes me upset, I stop looking at it. This means I almost never go on Twitter anymore, or it isn’t long before I say, “This makes me feel like shit, I’m stopping.” Letting myself spiral into anxiety and depression distracts me from completing my schoolwork, and even if I’m nagged by the existential dread that it’s all meaningless, given the choice between completing a task and starring blank-eyed at Twitter, I’ll take the latter.

I bought myself a Switch Lite and then Animal Crossing in anticipation of social distancing. I might get FFVIIR, but everyone’s around and RPing so much right now I’m not sure when I’d find time to play it!

I’m gonna start trying out Hello Fresh for family meals since my motivation to cook and appetite haven’t been the best, and I’m hoping that having some of those needs curated will encourage me. I bought myself a huge supply of San Pellegrino so I can have something a little bit extra fancy with my lunches that doesn’t have caffeine since my anxiety level is bad and I’m cutting back on my daily caffeine habits.

I take a walk every day or get out of the house somewhere.

I’ve made some purchases of personal items that are fun and I’ve been putting off, like a new spring jacket and cologne.
