Miitopia and how it does AI party members well
saw a post about rare snurp and it got me thinking about the game again wahey! So it's time for another "Vivian talks about some game and its mechanics and why she likes it" Miitopia is a really special game, all of the classes are unique and useful in their own way so there's a ton of variety that everyone can go for, however there is a big difference between your main character and your party members with the sole inclusion of not being able to pick your party member's actions... to a certain degree atleast. This ends up making some classes incredibly overpowered in the hands of the player (Cat for the best damage in the game, Elf because you can just shield everyone immediately, Imp so you can let hyper sprinkled characters attack even more) while they are kinda meh to borderline garbage in the hands of the party's AI, for an extreme example party members that are a Cat will rarely use their best move, feline frenzy and instead go for their regular double hit which does atleast half of the damage that felyne frenzy would do. However this also means that the player character shouldn't neccessarily be stuck supporting the team unless you specifically allow the party to do their maximum damage, or if you know how every class' AI works, Mages in big battles will always start with barrier if they learned it and will always conserve MP if a lower tier spell is enough to finish the fight, Priests focus primarily on keeping your team alive and will prioritize reviving over healing, POPSTAR having the best revive in the game along with the hilarious utility that their relationship share gives, just to name a few. And this is where the beauty of the game really comes to shine imo, the teambuilding aspect, everyone has to use different team setups throughout the game, be it because of random sicknesses or because your teams got seperated so now you have to adjust with what you're given, and knowing what your team will do along with some neat tech like rest spot cycling and knowing the turn orders leads to healerless and sprinkleless teams being able to just, survive and win even some of the tougher fights, most notably darker lord phase 1 and 2 where by now i usually end up having a single super strong character do the fight while two other undergeared characters support *JUST* for the challenge aspect and me wanting to learn the absolute intricacies of this game. And before i end this off, a "quick" list of notable classes that work well when controlled by the AI: Warrior: it's plain and simple and 90% of the time they're hyper sprinkled anyways Thief: surprisingly good at using their optimal skills! Mage: see above Scientist: amazing at using the correct skills in a given situation Imp: They use their defense down kinda frequently but the butt poke too infrequently Princess: having access to an AoE stun is hilariously stupid, MP regen too AND good phsyiscal and magical combat that they use well enough? Elf: It's fucking elf what do you expect from the best class in the game, they tend to not use their shield reliably enough though but they use their MP heal SUPER often Miitopia is such an underrated gem of a game that i genuinely hope gets a sequel that is just as good

Rereading through notes is so funny to me while studying for an exam because I find stupid little gems like this:
Tumblr media
I have also made the following joke about snRNPS (pronounced "snurps"):
Tumblr media
(Yes I understand these are niche jokes that only some people will get but I think I'm hilarious for the record)

I've played some Miitopia today, and now I feel the need to make this
I don't necessarily hate all of these monsters, I just choose those I found most annoying
Under the read more is a list of why every enemy is included (partially because it can be hard to remember them all), but you can obviously ignore it. These are just my own reasons
Also, if you really like/love one of these, don't let me stop you! This poll is just for funsies
UFO: Can steal all of your teammate's HP Bananas one by one, and you never get them back
Terror Fiend: Will do 999 damage almost every round it attacks, and it always hits
Twerkey: LOOK AT IT! Also, I hate its 'Angry'-Action
Rare Snurp: They just randomly disappear, sometimes in the first round, sometimes in the last round
"Traveler" Wind: Can remove entire party members from your team for two rounds. Again, I know bosses are harder, but it annoys me, nonetheless
Ancient Robot: Has that 'Wave Cannon 2'-Action, where it charges a strong laser and then fires (and if there's two of them, they'll fire immediately), forcing you to constantly puts Miis in the Safe-Spot/behind shields. The attack also does quite a bit of damage, so you can't always just leave your Miis unprotected
Mummy: Able to steal a party member's weapon, so they can't use an action and only attack with their bare hands
Glamorous Pharaoh: Able to hypnotize a party member, forcing them to heal the enemy. They also do this constantly

Another day, another Miitopia HC
The most common snurps symbolize the three starting areas of the game; Green Snurps represent Greenhorne, Gold Snurps represent Neksdor, and, most obviously, Tasty Snurps represent Realm of the Fey.
I am not 100% sure on which Snurp would fit Karkaton- my closest guess is the Black Snurp because of Obsidian, a stone of similar coloration, being the cooled down version of lava, but that is what the cool kids call a “stretch”.
-
Righteous Anger/Demonic Whispers doesn’t exactly banish the enemy; rather, it rids of them of the influence of the Dark Lord/Curse. This is most evident when using the move against Woof o’ the Wisps, which immediately wakes them up, and Mummies that have eaten a party member’s weapon, which knocks them out momentarily as their weapons get retrieved before freeing the face stuck unto them. This explains why Boss monsters aren’t affected; they are the DL’s ‘generals’ of the army and, thus, closest to his influence.
Building upon said attacks, the chances of either one of them working depends on the amount of good/malicious the lost face may have committed. This is also why Demonic Whispers has an AOE in contrast to Righteous Anger- you can judge an individual person on whether they are worthy of salvation or not, but it would be far too naive to assume that nobody is capable of committing evil - even with the best of intentions in mind -.

personal miitopia canon tidbits post for funsies
great sage jamie was primarily raised alongside his cousin val by guardian spirit jasira. when they were both around seven they were caught in a tragic accident travelling powdered peaks with family that resulted in said family well. Not making it! and val's leg was injured to the point it had to be removed. lucky for them jas (before she was sealed within the pendant by her fellow deities for breaking rules about communicating with mortals) found them and took them in. jas's partner, who is the inn spirit finn (@ilovesmosh55's oc), also helped raise them.
the entirety of neksdor is a huge clusterfuck misunderstanding which is really funny because like. Ok so basically the genie, michio, is 1.) friends with the desert celebrity, 2.) related to great sage jamie, and 3.) a huge prankster. not a bad guy just goes overboard on the silly sometimes. he was talking to jamie prior to everything and jamie was like "u gotta tone down the pranks turning a pyramid into cheese in the hot ass desert sun was a bad idea" and michio's like "cmooon that was a one-time lapse of judgement. if i do smth stupid again you can put me in lamp time out for a few days so i can think about what i did or whatever" and Well. needless to say he did something stupid so he lost that bet. blah blah shit happens lamp goes missing and gets picked up by the desert prince. michio does not like his vibe and fucks off. his first bright idea is to prank his buddy desert celebrity arlo (also @ilovesmosh55's) who is not the sharpest tool in the shed. michio replaces his gold with chocolate coins and hides the real stuff under his bed and arlo genuinely thinks it's missing and enlists the help of arcade and co. to find it. michio has to explain everything lest arc sucks him back into the lamp and he's like "alright yeah maybe i need to dial it back um". essentially he's not evil he's just really dedicated to the bit
the tomodachi collection island, tomodachi life island, and new lumos are all the same place, just having developed over time. arc actually lived in the original apartment building there. new lumos is also where the dark lord started her attack since it was a densely-populated area disconnected from the mainland and the culture there is relatively different from it, as well. there aren't nearly as many magic users and reliance on technology is much heavier, and it is also the main source of broadcasting news across the land. cutting off that news source was good for the attack so the mainland didn't expect it, and the dense population and ocean-enclosed land that made it hard to escape fast made it a great place to begin stealing faces amd creating monsters.
the inns often appear in the form of doors on random upright surfaces and can show up pretty much anywhere granted there is a large enough surface for it to appear on (think like... the dark lord's castle or something like that. rather than a whole inn appearing it's just one door on a wall). the doors stand out so it's clear where they lead. they can appear as full buildings but not All the time depending on location
snurps are actually an invasive species that originated in peculia. they can be kept as pets but there are regulations or outright bans that vary by area. also new lumos snurps are like a weird combination of crows and city rats
