update for anyone following the tea leaf/IICT(OSC) WIP stuff: I have acquired a pouch of regular black tea, and my word, is it a DISAPPOINTMENT

so uh. very minor Skybound fun fact/WIP imagery spoilers below the cut.

so WAY back when in 2016, there was a Skybound book that came out. I don't remember the title, but there's a short story in there detailing how Wu fucked up his wishes and wound up in the sword. Neat! Also not entirely confirmed canon, but it doesn't CONTRADICT canon, either, so it's acceptable as a placeholder. Wu is also very funny, and he drops a couple of fun one-liners. The one I was hoping to work with on IICT(OSC) was the line where, after Nadakhan explains the whole teapot prison thing, Wu comments that THAT must be why Nadakhan smells like tea. (Wu also pairs this observation up with "you're making me thirsty," which spawned at least one crackship fic back in the day. Just so you know.)

So that's what I was hoping to work with for some of the sensory descriptions: the way black tea smells, and by extension the way things in the fic connected to Nadakhan would smell! I initially chose black tea because I've smelled a lot of other teas before and none of them felt like a good fit for him, so of COURSE I picked the one kind I've never smelled and decided to give a cup of it a place of honor in the fic as a very important part of {{LMAO THIS IS REDACTED I'M NOT SPOILING MY OWN FIC THIS HARD JUST YET}} and repeat the motif of scent throughout.

To be fair: I've never smelled a teabag that's been SUPER strong on its own. At most, just kind of musty. I think green tea smells like old lawn clippings. Hibiscus is nice, but not technically a tea, so that's off the table too. However, those ones at least HAD a scent! This black tea smells like nothing. I can smell the paper and that's it - it smells like a Michael's scrapbooking aisle. I'm not in the mood to brew it, either, given that the SPICED BLACK TEA that I used for the leaf reading tasted like nothing. At least that had a smell, though, and I have more of it (got a full box in a gift set from a relative), so that's what I'm settling on.

Anyway, this is all a long way of saying: if you want to know a very tiny part of what I'm building the Nadakhan scent motif around, go tear open a bag of Constant Comment and make like Gayle with her GoLean Crunch and Barnes & Noble membership card.

(DO NOT DO THAT. DO NOT SNORT TEA. a nice deep whiff is FINE. also, go smell some leather work gloves if you have access to them.)

I’m gonna be honest, whenever I see stuff about like. CinemaSins and movie critiquing I am just baffled bc like.

I never went into those videos thinking that CinemaSins was being serious about any of it. I watched him rip apart movies I loved and I laughed about it.

It never occurred to me that people might take those videos seriously and now I’m seeing posts about like “everything wrong with CinemaSins” and I’m like. Is this not just a joke channel?

Maybe it’s bc I haven’t watched many of the newer stuff on that channel but I used to Love watching them rip my favorite movies to shreds over totally subjective stuff and things like the inclusion of a box of Kashi GoLean Crunch.
