Initially wanted to post this on reddit, but for some reason I can't so what the heck.
It's a well-known fact that many Cdramas, usually period dramas, are dubbed by voice actors. I'm probably an outlier here in that I'm not a diehard Cdrama fan (have only watched NiF, TU and Empresses in the Palace to completion, great shows btw) and I'm more of a Chinese audio drama listener. So while there is overlap in these industries and fandoms, I'm way more interested in the voice actors than the live action actors. And since they don't get as much recognition here I'd like to give a shoutout to them.
I like to joke that there are like 30 people in the Chinese voice acting industry. Once you recognize some of them you'll start to hear them in everything. According to an AvenueX video it's apparently a bad habit of Cdrama land to cast the same popular voice actor to all the leads, thereby making their voices indistinguishable. I initially noticed this with Bian Jiang for a time, who voiced Lan Wangji in The Untamed (and the MDZS donghua) and the ML from Ten Miles of Peach Blossom among other things. I remember just noticing him in nearly everything I watched from then on.
Another standout voice actor I've noticed recently is Gu Jiangshan who voiced Zhou Zishu in Word of Honor and Jin Zixuan in the MDZS (aka TU) donghua. Didn't really take note of him in those roles until I listened to him as Yuan Yang in the Beloved Enemy audio drama (there's also a Cdrama but he's not in that). He's really good in that. Like really good. I would have hated the red flag ML way more if it weren't for his voice acting. Side note, an Indonesian fan sent their regards to him during a fan signing and he was so surprised to learn he had overseas fans, which I think is so cute given that I am now one of those fans.
Another thing is I don't think live action dramas are the best medium to bring out these voice actors' skills, though I am happy it keeps them employed haha. It's not really to do with acting ability, but different mediums require different skills, and for voice acting, matching their performances to the actors must come with its own challenges. This is why I prefer audio dramas, as they have more freedom. A go-to example I have is that one devastating scene from The Untamed (I know, there are so many). Keep in my mind that Wei Wuxian in the live action and the audio drama are voiced by the same guy and just listen to the difference. I wanted to cry the first time I listened to the audio drama.
All in all, I'm not uplifting one style of acting over another, though I do have my preferences. I just like good stories and appreciate those stories being delivered in the best way possible.

Faced with several enticing options, I finally decided on one after much contemplation…
⊹ Suggest just going out to walk ⊹
MC: Then let's just go walk around.
I'd only just finished speaking when I saw a shadow dart across the courtyard outside.
MC: What was that!?
We both walked to the windowsill and pushed the windows open.
❖☆———————————★❖
Jesse: Wow. Looks like it's a big one.
Jesse: Hey! Mr. Deer!
Jesse: Oh! He turned around. Looks like he's not scared of humans.
Jesse: What a rare opportunity. How about we call him over for a chat?
Jesse: Hehe. You wouldn't believe me if I told you, but I'm an expert in deer language!
Jesse: *Deer noises*...
Jesse: Why do you look so dubious…?
Jesse: Look! Here he is! This is no coincidence!
Jesse: *Deer noises*...
Jesse: It just came over to say hi and ask if we've eaten.
Jesse: *Deer noises*...
Jesse: And now I've just told him that we were just headed out in search of some food.
Jesse: So? Wanna learn?
Jesse: *Deer noises*... This is how you say hi.
Jesse: No, no. You've gotta purse your lips more. *Deer noises*...
Jesse: Heh, this time's a pretty good attempt.
Jesse: I'm not bluffing! I just thought that you were… really cute.
Jesse: I mean it! Look, even the deer's nodding!
Jesse: He says that this little lady here's real cute and that he'll come look for us to play again next time.
Jesse: *Deer noises*...
Jesse: Sorry man, but we're leaving tomorrow.
Jesse: He says that he hopes we'll come by again next time.
Jesse: And he also says that he hopes the little lady here will talk to him more next time.
Jesse: Hm? You wanna pay him?
Jesse: I'll ask him if he's cool with that.
Jesse: *Deer noises*...
Jesse: Brilliant! He said that it's no issue.
Jesse: Oh! Here he comes!
Jesse: No need to be scared, I've already told him.
Jesse: He even said that he wanted to kiss you at first…
Jesse: But I've already rejected him in your stead.
Jesse: No way! Of course not!
Jesse: A memorable first kiss should be left to someone special!

The next day, Jesse and I boarded the plane back home.
Outside, a gold stream of light pierced through the clouds of varying shades and shone through the glass window, casting a soft, warm, yellow light onto the sides of the plane’s window.
MC: Gazing upon the clouds like this really makes you feel like you’re trapped in a pocket of time.
MC: Don’t you think so too?
I turned to look at Jesse, who was seated beside me. However, he was completely still, seemingly not having heard me.
MC: Jesse?
I stuck a hand in front of his face and waved.
MC: Hey! Stop joking around!
I was just about to pat to snap him out of it when my arm was suddenly pulled over.
MC: !?
Jesse: C'mon, don’t tell me you really got scared by that?
He lowered his head with a radiant smile on his face, reverting to the same old Jesse I knew.
MC: What are you, three?
Jesse: Of course not! I’m just acting out and expressing what that “pocket of time” you mentioned earlier is! Was everything not supposed to be frozen?
MC: It is, but…
Jesse: But?
He watched me silently, awaiting my answer.
Flustered by his quiet stare, I found myself averting my eyes.
MC: But your acting is way too real…
My hands slowly curled into fists as I hung my head, my voice growing softer and softer as I spoke.
He gripped into the armrest, leaning forwards and turning his head so that his ears were before my lips.
Jesse: Speak your mind. I’m the only one who can hear what you have to say now.
Faced with the exquisite shell of his ear, I gave a deep sigh before telling him everything that had been in my mind…
MC: What you pulled earlier really scared me a little…
MC: I was worried that I’d been left behind again.
His shoulders visibly trembled as he drew himself back up and leaned back into his own seat. He pulled my hand over, unclenching my fingers from the fist they’d been curled up into one by one.
Jesse: Never again.
I turned to look at him, only to meet his warm and determined orbs.
The light reflected within the depths of his eyes was more shocking than the unpredictable aurora borealis.
Jesse: I swear to you, that be it a pocket of time, or even doomsday itself, I will never, ever, leave you again no matter what happens.
Jesse: I swear that we’ll revisit all those scenes and sights that we’ve missed; each and every one of them.
Ensnared in that cheerily warm gaze, I gave him a slight nod.
I could already see the start of our next journey; our new beginning.

Madame M: This time, we’ve invited Guo Haoran lao-shi, Gu Jiangshan lao-shi, and Jin Xian lao-shi. Let’s have the three of you talk about the characters that you voiced.
Gu Jiangshan: Captain Tang Hao of Hundred Blossoms — he’s a character who’s confident, brilliant, and is someone who refuses to admit defeat. Even though he’s new to the scene, but because of his abilities, he’s able to find a place within the professional league. I feel that these are some of the special traits of his character.
Guo Haoran: The character that I voiced is Lin Jingyan, who also plays a brawler — Number One Brawler! Pretty amazing! He’s the captain of Wind Howl, who’s kind and easygoing, and is chasing after his own goals. Even though he’d been surpassed by younger players, he didn’t get angry.
Jin Xian: The character that I voiced is the one who speaks very little — Zhou Zekai. He’s usually a bit of a bore, but when he gets into the arena, he’ll become someone who’s very strong and reliable.
MM: If you guys are playing Glory, what classes will you play?
JX: I’ll probably play sharpshooter as well. Yeah, because I personally like guns as a weapon.
GJS: Probably brawler. Not because Tang Hao uses brawler, but because I feel that some brawler skills —like tossing sand, or throwing bricks — these are all materials you can find and use anywhere. It’s a very grounded and down-to-earth class.
GHR: A class that I’d play is probably unspecialized.
MM: Hmm? That’s it? Why do I have a feeling that Guo lao-shi’s personality is very similar to Xiao Zhou’s? Not including the characters that you voice, which is your favourite team? And who’s your favourite character within that team? Let’s have Guo lao-shi answer first.
GHR: My favourite team is Team Happy, and my favourite character is Ye Xiu. No particular reason. Just that I like the feeling of being the male protagonist, having the halo of being the main character.
JX: Uh. Not counting the character that I voice, my favourite team is probably Team Tiny Herb, because other than Zhou Zekai, my favourite character is Wang Jiexi.
GJS: My absolute favourite is Team Happy. When I was reading the novels, and as I was following the viewpoint of the protagonist, I got to experience and understand the professional league and Glory. Through the novels, I can feel — including scenes inside and outside the game itself — that Team Happy is like the epitome of one’s life. For example, when you’re at the lowest point in your life, as long as you don’t give up and keep going, and are willing to trust and depend on your friends, then you will reach the summit again one day. My favourite character is Tang Rou. She doesn’t back down when she’s defeated; instead, she’ll keep challenging you in order to grow and improve. This is a very valuable quality of hers, so this is one of the reasons why I like her character.
